Auctober Day 9: Community

This drawing is so lazy, I’m so sorry! I was rushing to get it done on time and I’m currently swamped by uni! However, for this prompt, I decided to portray a concept of community that I read about in Dr. Devon Price’s book “Unmasking Autism”: the concept of “Strawberry People,” which is a term coined by Sam Dylan Finch. Basically, this concept involves selecting some contacts in your phone or social media and adding a “ 🍓 “ emoji beside their names to indicate friends and loved ones whom you can be your authentic Autistic self with. These are people you trust, people you feel safe around, people you know you can unmask around etc. I am very lucky to have quite a few strawberry people in my life, including friends, my fiancé, and of course my cat! 🐱🍓 In my eyes, my strawberry people are my community. Moral of the story: be the strawberry in your Autistic friend’s life ☺️
