Cine: Un mundo extraño (2022)

Jaeger Clade (Dennis Quaid) es una leyenda de Avalonia, un explorador que desea que su hijo Searcher (Jake Gyllenhall) siga sus pasos. Ambos emprenden un viaje con el objetivo de hallar un descubrimiento que mejore la vida de los habitantes del pueblo. En el camino, ambos se distancian: mientras el padre se dispone a continuar hacia el otro lado de la montaña, Searcher encuentra Pando, una planta a la que considera hay que investigar sus propiedades. Esto produce una ruptura entre ambos que culmina con Jaeger siguiendo su aventura y el muchacho retornando a Avalonia y convirtiéndose en un granjero cuyo producto esencial, Pando, acaba motivando el progreso esperado para el pueblo.

Veinticinco años más tarde, ya casado con Meridian (Gabrielle Union) y con Ethan (Jaboukie Young-White), un hijo de dieciséis años intrigado por la fama de su abuelo, Searcher no tiene más opción que iniciar una cruzada para investigar el origen de la repentina enfermedad que afecta a Pando y que amenaza el bienestar de Avalonia.

Rebosante de seres fantásticos y de una paleta de colores brillantes que quitan el aliento, es más que obvio que Don Hall, director de otros clásicos de Disney como “Grandes héroes” (Big Hero 6, 2014), “Moana” (2016) o “Raya y el último dragón” (Raya and the Last Dragon, 2021), ha intentado homenajear las revistas pulp y el cine de ciencia ficción clase B de mediados del siglo XX. 

Ya desde el principio, esta película sufrió los embates de la polémica debido a la inclusión de un personaje gay, el primero en una película de Disney: se trata de Ethan, enamorado de su amigo Diazo (Jonathan Melo), cuya sexualidad no sorprende ni espanta a nadie; su padre pide que le hable de Diazo y su abuelo, que ni siquiera sabía que tenía un nieto, lo toma con la mayor naturalidad posible. La polémica perjudicó seriamente el rendimiento del filme, que se convirtió en el mayor fracaso animado en la historia de la compañía del ratón.

A recent trip to another world in the multiverse had introduced Jonathan to a man named Elias; someone magically gifted enough to travel between realms without the use of a portal suitcase.

Jonathan had only known one other person to be able to do that, and so had been keen to learn more about the man. During their meeting he had come to learn about Dwight, and quickly made plans to visit the magic user that resided in the same world as Jonathan.

the problem with me is that i become wholly enthralled and obsessed with a piece of media that has no fandom whatsoever. anywhere. over here it’s all aesthetic bookblogger posts or just nothing at all and on AO3 there would be like 10 fics per fandom

i’m just kinda annoyed because i went to go see if there was a fandom for song of the last kingdom and there was nothing

and i am specifically talking about YA books but this also applies to certain musicals that just. they have no fandom. and i can’t single-handedly start them.

The BELLE :  Powerful Teen Ladies! 🌿 this social configuration is found apparently in different nations.🌿         ➖ a  close  encounters ➖ a member of Tevworks testifies 🔦 sometimes after 2009, I was at the comfort of my dwelling when a visitor "GUIDE 1" came calling! he (part of a power group) requested that I go with him to DESTINATION X which I had once seen from a distance. there was this strange affinity with GUIDE 1. I obliged and one of the strangest journeys was begun. we traveled and finally came to a part of western africa to DESTINATION X. this is a high school located in western africa. GUIDE 1 took me into this high school! In the high school were students, teachers and others. GUIDE 1 drew my attention to A UNIT OF CAUCASIAN STUDENTS! Upon investigation the RETURNS CAME THUS 🍁 they are American students ❗ GUIDE 1 opened a database on these American students. The information was amazing, dumbfounding 👉 when alone they radiate light 👉 they can block the skin radiation appearing like the average Tom,Dick and Harry! 👉 THEY KEEP TO THEMSELVES: not letting others in! 👉 they hold american identification! At this point,GUIDE 1 let me loose to meet them and identify with them! I approached one of them - the Max Evans among them and began to relate with him. He was nice but was "I can't do this!"- declining friendship DUE TO SECURITY CONCERNS! Following this I returned to GUIDE 1. We left the high school and I was returned to my dwelling.

if yall are curious on what the book is about, basically its a fantasy adventure with dimension hopping but with suitcases lol (the main characters i drew here are Flick Hudson and Jonathan Mercator :DD)

Things I liked about strangeworlds travel agency book two the edge of the ocean in no particular order

 Spoilers many spoilers are under the read-more read at your own risk (also I’ve not read book three yet so please don’t spoil anything!)

alright first of all I love Nyfe as a character. bestie gave herself the title Pirate Queen, estranged herself from her father because he wouldn’t give her command of all his ships (all of them???) and is named Nyfe. Did she name herself at some point? Did her (scary, but) gentlehearted parents name her that? Either way it is hilarious and I love it

Pirates I just really like pirates

OH MY GOSH THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END?? ISAAC? TRISTYAN? JONATHAN’S DAD? SEREN?

Just.. all of Jonathan’s outfits

Avery and Flicks like crush/romance thing going on that was very cute 

When Jonathan gives Flick a pep talk and Avery is like “ugh I thought you were going to kiss” and they’re both absolutely disgusted 

the expression “the chamber pot was about to hit the propeller.”

I love the merpeople and how different they all are in terms of fishness

I love the way Flick describes magic, it’s so beautiful

I love the cover art (I have the North American edition I think? The one with Flick, Jonathan, and Avery on it)

I love how Jonathan basically flatters Flick’s mom into letting her go back to the travel agency

oh and how Flick and Avery try their best to help Jonathan when he realizes his dad is dead, even though neither of them really know what to do

and how Jonathan and Flick desperately are looking through the suitcases, trying to find a suitable one, before they run out of time 

AND A LOT OF OTHER STUFF that I will probably add later 

I just love this series a lot
