TIME FOR ELDEN RING BABY OORUDHHEHDBR

as much as i love all of the soulsborne soundtracks, i truly adore the ost for elden ring. it's an absolute masterpiece in my opinion, never before has a soundtrack brought me to such emotion as elden ring. and i'm sure that sounds really silly but i'm a very musically inclined person so when i hear certain tracks i quite literally cry and stim lmao AND I'LL BE TALKING ABOUT THOSE TRACKS RN

— starting with elden beast. when i tell you this song brings tears to my eyes bro.. in the least dramatic way possible, elden beasts theme is the most delicious song i have ever eaten. the absolute despair and defeat in the vocals? the sadness as if coming to terms with actions long past and consequences ever quickly catching up. something i saw once which really sticks with me is that the vocals in elden beasts theme is marika herself. her lament, it's her desperation and sadness you're hearing. as you're fighting elden beast, you are hearing the final remnants of marika echoing through the liminal space of the erdtree and the beasts domain. something she herself has become intricately intwined in.

next up is a double whammy, messmers theme and radagons BECAUSE THEY PARALLEL EACH OTHER AND IM SCREAMING AND CRYING. — messmers theme is sort of orderly in a way, cold and brutal, in representation of his siege on the land of shadow. it's second phase opening is signifying his disconnect from marika, the descent into the base/abyssal serpent. there's an audible decline, him losing himself to the serpent, as foretold. and the strength of the instrumental is just so overwhelming and powerful, fit for the empyrean he is. the firstborn or second child of marika. (i'm a messmer simp, can you tell?) BUT with the comparison being made to radagons theme/ph1 of the final battle, they sound similar. messmers being cold and calculating, whereas radagons is just straight aggression and the feeling of finality. the implication of pure power and violence in the tones of it. AND if you listen, there's sounds within it that sound like the shattering of the elden ring. the actions that led to your encounter with this being. this man who wastes no time to dispose of your trespass. obviously radagons second phase being elden beast, that just adds to the story. and listening to both messmer and radagons themes consecutively you can really hear the relation between these two men AND RUAGHHHHRHDHTNG I LOVE THEM

onto mohg, lord of blood. the phase one of his theme is just.. it seethes with grandeur and the fantasized ideal that mohg has been fed (with information from the dlc i am fully confident in saying that it was all due to miquella so i'm saying fed) and that feeling of superiority carries on into his second phase, especially in appearance as well with mohg getting a set of whole ass wings lol. i love mohg's theme, that's all

and finally (for now 😏) THE PROMISED CONSORT OH MY DEAR GOD .. CHAT THIS SONG. honestly all of the dlc songs are bangers but for a "final boss" theme?? the bar is so high now. starting with phase one, we finally FINALLY see the strength and wholeness of radahn that we saw a fraction of in base game. the just.. dominating power of the phase one is so indicative of how truly great and formidable radahn is but in audio form. and as it transitions to phase two, we get that 'holy' eminence of miquellas influence. it quite literally sounds like godly interference. the grace of a god descending to deal with something themselves and as the instruments pick up again with the vocals, there's the sounds of that strong power being used by this holy influence. the fact that there's quite literally almost a prayer/hymn in the middle of ph2 is so INCREDIBLE to me. this is just.. such an amazingly beautiful piece OH MY GOD.

I also want to try a new journaling style with using fountain pen art but I'm still experimenting with pens and the style itself so don't expect spreads to look like this in the future lmao

Summary:

To start: I am still figuring out a journaling style so all my early spreads will be a little rough. That being said, I love this game so soosossososo much. This is everything my little universal horror heart could ever want. I knew I'd enjoy the gameplay since I really loved the gameplay of TAOL but the monsters and level design and music just made me have even more fun than i was expecting. The game is very straight forward and nowhere near as cryptic as TAOL, both are very charming but at least you can play castlevania without a guide. The environment designs are unbelievably gorgeous. I would love to draw them someday. I really liked not only Simon but his mechanics. He has a slow, burly gait and wields a whip-- very different from Joust moving link with his sword (joust the game). It ensures you aim your whip properly as enemies have to maintain contact with the end of the whip. The boss fights were also diverse design and attack wise, it was nice trying to figure out new strategies. I loved so much about this game, I just gave it an 8.5 since there's no major story. However, I love that this game was a catalyst for the whole series plus anime adaptations. I am sooo excited to play more of the series, esp Super Castlevania IV!

so YES, as word spreads that both claimants have fallen at the trident, I think in addition to a race to the capital - because we see this several times in the story but whoever HOLDS King's Landing has the keys to the kingdom - Tywin is sending off letters and messages to Rhaella so he can come out on top here. I think Rhaella may even be receptive to this; for all Tywin has a nasty reputation, it's possible Rhaella wants a nasty reputation to protect her right now, knowing she has no one but her unhinged husband "protecting" her now that Rhaegar is dead. His wife was also friends with her, and I'm sure that relation is still important to Rhaella the way the Loreza relation was. HOWEVER. I am going back on forth on Elia and the babies - obviously he will want to kill any counterclaims but there's a risk of killing the kids and then not being able to get Rhaella to play ball, especially with her at Dragonstone and messages probably moving slowly. There's a risk here when he doesn't have Rhaella, Viserys, and baby Dany in hand or under guard by Lannister soldiers. Again - POSSESSION is important right now with everything up in the air. What Tywin - and the rebels - need more than anything is to physically have the upper hand by having the targs they're trying to rule through With Them Right Now or just having King's Landing straight up.

But timeline wise this is crazyyyy and I think that's where it gets fun. In canon, Ned and Tywin get to KL at basically the exact same time (and it takes about a fortnight to get there - so Tywin is really running on a tight schedule to get a message to Rhaella). Tywin is mid sack when Ned shows up and then Ned beats him inside the Red Keep. So when Tywin gets there, Ned, Jon, probably Hoster and Blackfish too, are all standing there with Jaime who has offed Aerys, and are like “well looks like we’re gonna parlay right here and now” but then someone is gonna mention the kids and Elia. So either Tywin has to be all “guess they died in the sack haha oopsie anyways we should crown viserys, do a council of regents like with aegon iii i call hand tho 😁” while Jaime's face is trying to not visibly crack open in horror that he failed to protect Elia because of his dad, OR he tries to argue that since Rhaegar was mad, it's inevitable his children will be too and they should cut the kids out of succession and send them to Dorne (in a scenario where he doesn't risk killing them yet).

Ned is not gonna stand for that shit at all lol, even ignoring the fact that Jon and Hoster will see it for the power grab it is, Ned has just ost his best friend in the whole world, his older brother, his father, and he has no idea where Lyanna is still, I just can't see him taking shit. He’s gonna dig in his heels about how they need to do the opposite of whatever Tywin wants bc Tywin just murdered the kids for no reason - or well, for a very important, selfish, awful reason which is ensuring Viserys has no counterclaims so Cersei can marry him. Without Robert here to laugh it off, and with Ned as the main "face" of the rebellion left alive, I think Hoster, Blackfish, and Jon Arryn are likely to give Ned's words some weight, but they're also much more experienced at politics (and notably, it's only ever Ned and Doran that give a shit about murdering babies). With Robert dead, they know they need money and a marriage that legitimizes their cause, and Cersei is a great possibility for that, but What Is Their Cause Now. Even with Elia and the kids alive (but not for long imo - if they give in and let Tywin crown Viserys over Aegon, I think Aegon, Rhaenys, and Elia are getting attacked by pirates on the way back to Dorne), the question of "Viserys, Aegon, or Stannis" is going to a big issue. The lords of Westeros generally prefer to crown a grown or teenaged man over a baby, which leans towards Stannis, but this isn't crowning Egg over two infants he's related to and likely loves, this is crowning their rebel leader over two actual Targaryens.

I find it unlikely that Hoster and Jon are just going to hand Tywin this complete and total win even if they set up a council of regents - especially because Ned is likely pressing for Stannis to be crowned over young (and already unsteady) Viserys. IF they decide on a council of regents - which isn't a terrible compromise - Tywin is NOT going to be Hand tho, lmao, they are sending his ass home and Jon Arryn will be Hand. Viserys is definitely consummating, like, way earlier than he should too. BUT. If Ned pushes hard enough on crowning Stannis, he's not going to want to reward Tywin with a marriage to Cersei. I think there's a chance that, with both of these factions in the capital, they send out ravens that are like "everyone stand down, we're doing a great council to decide between Viserys and Stannis."

BUT. While they're arguing over what to do here, we don't know quite how much time has passed (in this or in the og timeline) and someone is going to contact Ned about Lyanna eventually. Again, if he gets there quicker, and she's not literally sitting in her own filth and blood for days, she might live. She's much better off in this scenario too - no Robert, no Rhaegar, and Ned alive - but first Ned has to find her. If they're all still arguing while he ducks out, I think Tywin wins that fight UNLESS they decide to call a great council already when he gets the message. Very stressful to be Ned and argue for Stannis, dip to go find Lyanna, and then come back to Viserys being crowned and married to Cersei with a council of regents set up...........especially when he's showing up with another Targaryen.

Anyways, there's sooo many moving factors compressed into a timeline that is very short and also very mysterious. I think if Ned is in the headspace to make the argument, as the main "face" of the rebellion left alive, they're likely to want to crown Stannis or call for a Great Council. HOWEVER. A Great Council does NOT mean Tywin isn't going to start pulling strings to get Viserys and Cersei on the throne either, and he has a lot of money to sling around to get allies. And if they're in the middle of the argument when Rhaella's letter comes in that says "Yeah I'll marry Viserys to Cersei and forgive the rebels" (what else is she supposed to do in this situation after all), THAT'S a huge boon in Tywin's favor to argue, especially if Ned winds up leaving the capital halfway through the argument to either save Stannis or save Lyanna. So imo, Ned is the deciding factor here - is he too focused on Stannis and Lyanna and accidentally gives Tywin the win? Or does he manage to stay on top of the political situation long enough to spite Tywin somehow?

the Zexal OST is one of the things I never remove from my phone because it's just that good! I feel like we got so lucky that Conisch was the one to make it because it's the best in the whole YGO franchise in my opinion (a very biased opinion considering how much I love games and how much gaming vibes Zexal music has). It sounds like something straight out of a JRPG, epic and more..

was going through some of my favorite themes to find inspiration for today's prompt and I have to talk about these 2 songs:

"Duel Of Certain Victory" (from Zexal Sound Duel 5)

guess this one plays on the last few episodes, probably in the duels with Nasch and Zexal? Anyway. I really like the urgency and heroic motifs in this, a fight between Chaos and Light. My favorite part is that shift at 2:03 when the time signature changes (4/4 -> 3/4), it's so freaking good

"Forced Duel" (from Zexal Sound Duel 4)

not sure where this one plays unfortunately (if you do, LET ME KNOW AAAAAAAA) so I'm going to assume it's on the late episodes too. This track is crazy good wtf!!! I really love the rock base (sounds like something from Megaman or Castlevania) and there's a lot going on with the time signature on this: there's the build up in 4/4 and a jump to a 7/4 bridge, going back to 4/4 and the first guitar riff/verse, then back to that bridge, then the build up again but make to more epic, then the resolution in 3/4 and outro in 7/4...... phew!! This is a fantastic tune, and one of my favorite songs in general

How to Train Your Dragon OST by John Powell HTTYD my best beloved. I watched this movie when I was seven years old, got Test Drive stuck in my head and Forbidden Friendship stuck in my heart and haven't gotten either of them out since. I know it's not teeeeeeechnically an album, but I love it anyways and it holds an incredibly special place in my heart. Favorite song: Forbidden Friendship

Save Rock and Roll by Fall Out Boy The yearning... the yearning. Something about the nostalgia and the ache and the... the everything about this album sank into me. Alone Together is the song that got me to actually start listening to Fall Out Boy's entire discography, and we all know how that went. Favorite Song: Alone Together

Love Run by The Amazing Devil I just. I love this album so much, with all its motifs and melodies and intertwining songs. It's chaotic and beautiful and I will never get over how every single song but the last is about love going wrong in some way and yet the chorus of the very last song is love's worth running to. Vices & Virtues by Panic! at the Disco A collection of Absolute Bops and also The Yearning (Panic! version) and it's just. It's fun! The music clicks exactly with my brain in both a melodic and emotional sense, and that is extremely rare for an entire album to pull off. Favorite Song: This one's from the bonus songs that I think you can only find nowadays on Youtube, but it's Stall Me!

Masterharper of Pern by Tania Opland So this is a published CD of filk music based off the songs and poetry from the Dragonriders of Pern books, and. look. I like medieval-inspired folk. The poor attempt at silencing the gun at the beginning probably set the tone for how I would feel throughout this whole film, lmao.

I also like, couldn't take anyone seriously when they walked hunched over and like they were seconds from either puking or peeing themselves. Genuinely "mom i frowed up" the whole film. Why.

One thing that did strike me from the beginning that I liked is that our man Nishi is just straight up a shell of a person. He has no life behind his eyes, no movement to his body. He's quiet and still. Guarded both by the way he physically holds himself as well as the near ever-present sunglasses he wears. It doesn't give me the stereotypical "I'm a tough guy cop" vibe. More of a sad, sullen and void of a human type of energy. Dude is entirely disassociated from life. Considering the shit he's had to deal with, it makes sense. He's like if Nanami was old and not hot.

While I do like the choice of mostly orchestral music because it tends to add a lot more of the typical despair tone that I feel like this movie carries throughout, I also can't give it too much credit. Maybe I'm burned out, but I've heard better orchestral OSTs. I will also give it credit that it knew when to kick up and when to fade out and leave no background music. More modern movies tend to have music constantly telling us how we're supposed to feel. It is interesting to see this juxtaposition of these scenes with really heartfelt/heart-wrenching orchestral elevator music where Nishi is supposedly Feeling Emotions compared to the silence or loud bursts of noise during violence. Likely its a commentary of the emptiness violence has to offer--because it appears much of (if not Nishi's whole life) is filled with violence of a sort (cancer is a form of violence) and why he, himself, is empty.

So much of this film is just standing around with quick cuts to abrupt violence before going back to the silence. Intentional, yes, but used so repeatedly throughout that I had the same issue I had with Oharu--dried up my give-a-shit well about a quarter of the way through. By the middle of the film baby I was in a drought worse than California.

I liked the non-linear storytelling. I do think that was done well, I just don't care for the story. It's also interesting that such a lifeless character gave art supplies to the dude who got paralyzed as a way to like, help him come back to and express himself. That felt oddly humanist. Maybe there's a soul in that detached body somewhere. Or maybe that was his way of like trying to kickstart himself into becoming a real boy again. It also felt like each painting foreshadowed what was about to happen in said scene--at least the one's they put more emphasis on.

One scene I think is particularly rude as hell is when she's watering the picked flowers and Mr. Buzzkill over here is saying its no use watering dead flowers like she herself isn't the physical manifestation of plucked wildflowers that are dead or dying. She still deserves to be watered, you prick.

Blood doesn't do that.

Abandoned Castle

You'll see this person a lot. They covered many CV tracks, and many CoD tracks in particular, and he knows exactly how to convey their raw power. This one is just a classic <3

The completely opposite style, a soft piano rendition: if the guitar cover emphasized the track's (and Hector's) badassness, this one emphasizes its sorrow. I love how you can tell that the player really is into this performance, especially at 2:39 <3

Garibaldi Courtyard

An underrated track, and yet one of my absolute favorites in the franchise. This cover goes from replicating the original's softness with a piano, chimes and strings, to adding a guitar that somehow doesn't ruin it. Oh, and did you catch the musical nod halfway through? :)

The Legendary Belmont

Favorite boss theme, peak badass. It goes without saying that even he covers slay :) admittedly I prefer how the original included strings and synths, but in terms of raw power this one gets it.

The conversation at the beginning <3 this cover simply feels like the original but cranked up to eleven. It has the strings and synths that scream "you're in great danger", but also that guitar!!!

I actually just found this one, and I'm glad I did. Nothing much to say different from the previous ones, it's another one where the guitar does all the work. Apparently it goes for a more pregressive rock approach, and gives more emphasis to the strings. "Slayer of Darkness", what a title.

Forest of Jigramunt

why isn't this track more beloved D: well, anyway, this one sounds straight from the OST, and not a cover. Now I don't know which version I prefer, they're both so beautiful. Also love how it was edited!

Not much different from the original, but I very much like the inclusion of chimes.

let's gooooooo 💖 this track doesn't get covered nearly enough for how epic it is lmao. To be fair, it looks insane (hehe) to play. For this cover, the weird chanting at the beginning are sacrificed for an awesome sounding guitar, much better than the one played in the original.

Toccata in Blood Soaked Darkness

the absolute madman played a string/organ track on a guitar. And it works. Personally, I'm just glad to see love for this beautiful final boss theme.

one thing i WISH happened tho was. mario and luigi Sibling Love (i mean this platonically i want to specify Just in case there are any weirdos out there) Helps Save The World. i get the whole count bleck mansion part where everyone started sacrificing themselves to save the others which means they care for one another n whatnot which is good great and fantastic However i think it wouldve been COOL to see the whole gang esp the two opposing forces of Mario (prophesized hero color red) and luigi (prophesized Man In Green to contain the chaos heart and destroy the world) contribute to the reformation of the pure heart like some sorta balance between light n dark . BUT ITS FINE i love the game anyway because its probably the longest bowser luigi mario and peach have ever been on the same team

all of count blecks minions are . SUCH a fun little group. and while dimentio didnt give a fuck about them i still love his dynamic as the court jester whos a little bit of a bitch. the origins of them joining the group are very interesting because ochunks mimi and nastasia had been at their lowest when bleck recruited them and dimentio was like. let me in your emo band. ochunk's warrior code is something i think about a lot. he doesnt got a lot behind the eyes but hes got values he sticks to and i like that a lot in a character. him and mimi do spa days

bleck as a character makes me wanna chew through my walls. in a good way. guys who are slipping and dont want to get back up and bringing everything else down with them are fun and that is all. bonus! he still gets to be Somewhere quiet after the story's over

dimentio has to be my fave of the goons (not counting mr l). not surprising because hes just. so. ...... He is the Way That He Is. his little similes are so stupidly funny for no reason and i think being a Silly Guy and also a Guy With Ulterior Motives are the two funest traits a character can have. His ambiguous past is so interesting like yes bitch hide behind the mask keep cards up your sleeve dont let them know your next move!! something interesting i read somewhere was that. even after luigi the chaos heart and dimentio were separated that there were bits still mixed up between them, linking them not only prophetically but on the atomic level is a headcanon im tucking close into my heart . terrifying as it is super fucking rad !! luigi cannot escape the harbinger of doom allegations

dimentio and luigis entire dynamic is the best thing ever. because dimentio is a goddamn weirdo and luigi is. and i cannot stress this enough. JUST a fucking GUY. luigi is like "ill stop you you ne'er do well!" and dimentio responds with "im killing us both<3ciao!" why does every luigi villain wanna be no children mountain goats with SO BAD. they should keep doing it

god. the way mario is the mc and barely has a role in most of the story other than being The Hero of the Light Prognosticus is both a little annoying and also kinda sick /pos. annoying because mario is one of my faves and i want him to participate in the story more (not really a diss on the writing i just like him) but also kinda sick because . the way everyone in the game talks abt the hero from the prophecy is so. soooooooooooo. god. like everyone in favor of all worlds Not Ending preparing THOUSANDS of CENTURIES in advance just for mario to arrive. Pixls were locked in boxes and hidden away WAITING for him and its like. if he could talk back. i wanna know how he thinks abt all this. because throught the entire story You as the player kinda fuck things up for people in pursuit of the pure hearts. and mario cant rly SAY anything abt it cus its not Really his story, but MAN. what i would give for a little development on his end of the lineup during a few points like 'wilting' king croacus, figuring out squirps is now orphaned because he had to stay alive long enough to help the heros, Luvbis Entire Deal, and figuring out mr l was luigi all along. SIGH

i dont know much about the pixl war, but all of that lore is so cool to look into. ive got like surface level knowledge. even then i only rly care abt the history when im thinking abt the personalities of the pixls themselves. cus like they get their little moment in the spotlight and then they Never speak Again. dottie and cudge and fleep are some of the more memorable ones for me and i wish it was possible to hear more of them. but alas

squirps. :( in my heart. in my heart and soul. bowser takes squirps under his wing. forms an alliance with his kingdom (assuming. squirps takes over from where his mom left off). peach would of course also form an alliance with him. IDK. squirps is the Only One out of every major side character in the game who didnt really get a happy ending. while not everyone NEEDS one i think he deserves one. and in my perfect world he is being guided by two more experienced rulers (bowser isnt doing much in terms of teaching him good diplomacy but he sure as hell is getting him to hang out with kids his age like Jr).

bowser was so funny this whole game. love when evil guys get domesticated a little. thats all about him

ok I finished jack jeanne for real (all cgs unlocked) time to blog about it. I think it's just straight up the best otome on the market you can play right now. albeitttt I don't play many indies but this game was just a powerhouse of heartfelt warmth and character growth god DAMN!!!! also the art is just so beautiful yay sui ishida

I don't wanna spoil much about the game even though I also want to gush about it but I'll put this under a cut cause I dunno how long I'll ramble

I can't even really think of any huge complaints. there's a couple small things still, nothing's perfect, but compared to literally any other otome I've played the lack of things I need to overlook is also a breath of fresh air!!! the one thing that's like, this genuinely might made it hard to recommend is that my final play time was 140 hours... and that was with a lot of fast-forwarding through repeated content and not much idling (unlike I usually do LOL) but MY GOD IT'S SO FUCKING WORTH IT.... PLEASE.... you can even play it as a strictly platonic game (which would cut down the hours by like at least half) and even then I think that would be worth buying it...

ALSO: VOICED HEROINE!! my fucking favorite. also she's amazing. my new fav otoge MC... I need her to be happy and successful forever or I will drown myself in tears ok

every LI genuinely tugged at my heart strings, I cried happy tears at the ending every time... it's like eating freshly baked cookies... just overwhelming warmth...

it also did the impossible by making me MISS high school, because I was in band and choir etc and it made me so damn nostalgic for the power of putting on a performance even if I was almost never center stage TvT this game is so earnest in it's efforts and care, I literally could feel the love in it... ahg

my favorite character though was Kai... I was expecting it but he still hit me harder than expected IN MULTIPLE WAYS REAL AS HELLLLLLLLLL BTWWWW v

also I wasn't expecting this game to handle social and gender norms in a like... way I'd actually identify with? because japan has a different history with all that especiallyy within the world of theater and a lot of modern japanese media has weird ways of. um. un-lgbt'ing their cast I'll say lmao. but this game pulled some shit off I wasn't expecting. I really really really enjoyed it (and I already enjoy the awkward or clumsy "heroine hides her gender" stories so maybe I'm biased here LOL) I know this game probably took soo much fucking money to make and who knows how many years but. god I want a sequel so bad THE SIDE CHARACTERS WERE SO GOOD. it's heart warming and filling but also so so charming I can't help but hope they make more. there's light novels and stuff but I doubt those will ever be officially translated T___T ah well

also the OST, especially the performance tracks sung by the cast ARE SO INSANELY GOOD !!!! 10/10 BABEY
