Tommy Kinard - post mortem

Minear thought of bringing Tommy back for FOUR episodes. He should have stuck to that plan. Because of the huge fanbase these two garnered since their first kiss, he hastily wrote Tommy into more episodes (it shows) and developed a shitty love story for them. Obviously, he did not know how to handle it because he saw himself forced to diverge from his original plan. His interviews about them were nothing but smoke and mirrors. Saying what fans want to hear to keep their hopes high. And we all fell for it. Since OS said he knew from early on in season 8 about the breakup or even earlier, it means, for Minear, he was done with them by the end of season 7.

Funny, wasn't that what the haters always said? That's why he wasn't included in Epi 1 - 3 because Minear stuck to his original plan, in which Tommy was long gone. More smoke and mirror interviews followed. Telling us bullshit like Tommy and Buck were a couple and thriving, well knowing he was done with them. And all the while, the haters knew about it. Fueled by hints of certain journalists. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I don't believe in coincidence. A journalist usually gets the episode a few days ahead of its airing. And often, they don't get the final cut. And then one of them "guesses" the title for episode 8.06 and part of its content? Yeah, sure. To me, it almost looks like Minear is dropping hints anonymously.

He blindsided BT fans from the get-go. I wondered why they shot 8.06 BEFORE 8.05. Then we got the answer when he explained that 8.05 happened to give the breakup "more shock value." Bullshit! 8.06 was a zombie episode from start to finish, with the cut emergency from season 7 and a plot about a boy in a drain (also a repeat, only with his brother as the hero). The scenes around Buck/Tommy felt like someone tried to put a square into a hole. In hindsight, even Josh's Glee speech gets a shallow taste. Madney's pregnancy felt like an offer of reconciliation to the audience. Hey, look, we have a breakup, but someone's having a baby again, hooray!

As we know, the breakup was written horribly. Again, it shows nobody had a plan (square, hole).

Tommy reminds me of an unfinished sculpture. We know he longs to belong somewhere and is jealous of the family the 118 has become. We know his former Captain Gerrard reminds Tommy of his dad, but that's about it. This is another proof that Minear didn't lose a second thought about Tommy Kinard when he brought him back.

So everything he told us in his interviews was a blatant lie, which he formulated when he saw how the audience appreciated Tevan and their genuine chemistry. Nobody thought that they were taking off like they did. And because it doesn't fit in Minear's concept, they had to do the shitty breakup by retconning Tommy and giving him the even shittier exit.

Sending Buck on his baking spree and watching Tommy "bubbling" him is nothing more than to console the audience and give them a "feeling that Tommy is still around." The general audience isn't as informed as the fans are. They hardly ever read interviews or talk about the show like fans do.

This explains why the plots around "Brad" were fully developed and executed. Minear stuck to his original concept. For my taste, the focus on this character was over the top, and he was never much appreciated among the audience and fans.

I wonder if Minear is even considering bringing Tommy back. I've seldom seen such inconsistent writing about a relationship or a character. Instead of appreciating the welcome and integrating this character into the show, he was treated worse than any other of Buck's LI. What did Minear think when he brought a character back that was part of the show in season 2 and hooked him up with one of the mains? The way this "bi awakening" was handled is cringe-worthy. "I wanted to get Buck off the hamsterwheel" - only to throw him back in. This could have happened a lot less complicated by making Buck drunk and having sex with a random guy. Show him now "suffering" when Minear says he will find a new LI that isn't meant to last, translating into "I made Buck bi although I haven't thought it through and have absolutely no plan what to do next."

An idea would be to bring Tommy back, integrate him, and make him part of Buck's life. It worked with Tarlos.

Someone just told me something very true (and I am allowed to share it): His (Tommy Kinard) season 2 exit was perfect. He showed positive growth, made good friends who threw him a lovely farewell party, and then he went away to pursue his dream career. I know we didn't care about him that time the way we do now, but the stark contrast between the two exits breaks my heart even more.

On a side note, get a grip on Eddie's storyline. From what I know, a half-naked dance through your apartment never solved any problems or had a healing effect...

My wish of the day,

I want 911 writers to stop making others' trauma about Buck and I want them to stop mitigating and ignore Buck's traumas by tying him to some failed relationship storyline that mitigate his trauma and he doesn't end up dealing with it at all.

It's just being swept under the rug by him apologizing about a lawsuit or kissing the wrong girl or starting another failed relationship with the woman who just returned after running from him a few days before after learning about his life and thinks his death was cool.

Please, for the love of God, let him evolve from poor baby Buck to a man who grew and developed and faces/deals with his traumas head-on.

Or at least gets to the point where he knows he's reached a low and helped into therapy by the ppl who really love him. (Read: Eddie. Hell, at this point, I'll settle for Bobby or Athena, or even Maddie. But seriously - after S5b, it should be Eddie. )

Kevin was left in the master bedroom, with a thick bandage on his throat underneath the golden collar, and his wrists bound together and tied to the headboard. He couldn't even move enough to lay down, rather he was forced to sit amongst the pillows.

He knew there was a guard on the other side of the door, listening for any sounds of renewed efforts of rebellion. But there wasn't much he could do like this.

The door opened, and he made a conscious effort not to acknowledge it. He kept his gaze firmly in front of him, towards the curtained window. He wouldn't give Aloskos an inch, now that he's taken so much.

But it wasn't Aloskos who entered, but one of his guards, and Julian, who crossed the room to sit on the bed near him but definitively not close enough to touch.

"Hey, Kevin. I- I heard what happened. How are you feeling?" His voice was tentative, slow.

Kevin wished he could explain everything that just happened, but he was too scared of what might come out if he opened his mouth, or made any sound at all.

"May I touch you?"

The request sounded fuzzy, as if muffled under too many layers of sand in an hourglass. With a nod, he scooped himself to a moment in the past.

Julian sat beside him, closer now. With the sleeve of his own robe, he dabbed at the tears Kevin didn't even realize were falling.

"May I ask technical questions?"

That same voice, the same tone, as those years ago. Julian was one of the few people in the entire world, and the only one in this castle, who could ask him technical questions now, and always. He nodded.

"I'm not asking you to prove it, but do you think you're still able to physically speak?" And when Kevin remained still, he continued, "You don't have to answer that. I'm just trying to assess damage."

Kevin shifted, straining against his bonds to do so. He lowered his head towards Julian in hopes he understood, and he did, sliding up beside Kevin in kind. Kevin nudged his face into the space between Julian's chin and shoulder, right up against the silver collar, and let out a shaky breath when a gentle hand found his hair. It was quite possibly the first breath he took since being tied to the bed that morning.

"I can speak," He said, hoarsely quiet both to prevent the guard from hearing, but also due to damage done. The spell last night and his begging for it to stop had both done a number on his voice.

"That's good," Julian said, dropping his own voice even lower in volume. Kevin could tell he didn't fully think so. "I won't force you to."

I know, he almost replied. I know and I do want to talk to you but I just can't bring myself to say anything more at all.

"I was told, he branded you again. That this one was worse. That he could force you- Kev, I know how much your music means to you. Genuinely, are you alright?"

How will I ever be alright, when I can't even hold that one thing for myself? He shook his head.

"Is there anything at all I can do to help?"

He nodded. Probably not, but please stay with me anyway. He hooked an ankle around Julian's, hoping that said everything he needed to. It seemed to land.

"Alright. I'll stay for as long as I can."

you're absolutely correct and i'm saying this as a person who was watching glee as it was airing from s4 onwards. at least as a kurt/klaine fan, i can say most fanon & fanfic ideas that appeal to me the most/got probably the most traction in fandom definitely originated in s4. i'm also very likely quite biased as it was the first season that i've watched airing so i look back on it fondly BUT NY storyline is kind of a kurt staple atp and soso many klaine fics have the NY s4 arc setting and we owe it all to s4.

i don't think season 4 is bad and neither do you, because aside from the newbies being such a bore (except kitty, nothing but respect for my force of evil gijinka) i honestly think most episodes and story lines were pretty solid lol. at least on the NY side!

this take being as popular as it is honestly just makes me realize no wonder propaganda works, because literally so many beloved concepts and arcs come from s4 like blam, blaine becoming a real boy in general, hummelpezberry roomies, santana getting Actual things to do, TBU, glease, vogue!kurt (♥) - i could honestly go on lol... most of these are just the ones i personally like off the top of my head, so im sure someone who is not as kurtpilled as i am could rattle off some other aspects of it theyve liked.

i think the writing quality already took a dive by season 3. like, kicking off the TT plotline was a little clumsy, after will kicks santana out of the glee club, she couldve just joined the TT instead of rejoining the ND for what, like an episode? s3 is full of moments like these, where you can tell that the writers themselves had NO idea what theyd be doing next episode lol...

if you REALLY wanted to end glee on a deserved high note, season 1's Sectionals is the only correct pick, as the first 13 episodes tell a very complete story - iirc RIB were unsure if the show would get renewed at all, so i really think they sort of intended it to be the last episode.

the only people allowed to hate on season 4 are those who watched glee while it was airing, if you are a zoomie who binged it in 2020 and made a living out of hummelpezberry roomie edits on tiktok you have NO excuse to say you hate it, the old fans WILL NOT FUCK YOU!!! youve just been MEMED into saying s4 sucks, WAKE UP. the show is over and concluded, the most you can do is enjoy it for what it is, im afraid.

notes: so i actually hated this storyline in the show but i also recognize angst potential when i see it so here’s this

summary: after getting lost in the subway system, Five comes to a grave realization

Five Hargreeves doesn’t love you anymore, and you’re completely oblivious to the fact.

You’re in the kitchen of Lila’s home baking holiday treats with your niece while awaiting the arrival of the rest of your family to begin the festivities. You smell of cinnamon and pinecones, and for the first time in years you actually feel content and happy with where your life is now. Sure, there’s technically a looming apocalypse hanging over you right now, but it’s nothing you haven’t handled before. You’re actually part of a family now with a man who adores you, and it’s all you’ve ever wanted.

“Alright, Grace, would you like to do the honors of putting the gumdrop buttons on the gingerbread men while I check on the sugar cookies?”

“Yes, aunt y/n!” The girl exclaims cheerfully before immediately diving into the candy bowl. You laugh at her eagerness and turn towards the oven only to be met with the sight of Five in the kitchen doorway. He looks disheveled and unnerved, but you’re too engrossed in your own joy filled bubble to pick up on it right away and instead mistake him for being tired and overwhelmed with the situation surrounding Ben and Jennifer.

“Hey, you made it!” You say with a smile as you press a chaste kiss to his cheek before turning your attention to the sugar cookies. Five can only stand there stiffly as he clings onto the ghost of your lips against his skin. He had hoped that by seeing you again, by being in your presence and showered in your love for him, the feelings he once held for you would return.

But as he stands there in the middle of the kitchen watching you run about, he realizes that he feels absolutely nothing.

Initially, he had wanted nothing more than to return home to you and his siblings. Five had fought tooth and nail trying to figure out a way to get out of that damned subway system so he could have you in his arms again and tell you how much he missed you even if for you he had only been gone a couple hours. But a man could only take eating so many subway rats and being shot at so many times. He had grown tired, weary, and depressed. For a moment it seemed they’d be stuck there forever, and so he decided that maybe it was time to make the most of it.

What he didn’t expect was to fall in love with his brother’s wife.

A woman he had once hated with his entire being now was his sole companion, and whether it was due to some sick twist of fate or a moment of weakness, he had begun to look at her the way he once looked at you. With complete adoration and care as well as a fierce need to protect her and keep her safe. He knew the chances of ever seeing you again were highly unlikely, and the next logical step would be to move on. So he did.

But now here he is, back in his original timeline left to deal with the aftermath of his decisions.

In what was seven years for Five and three hours for you, the boy has fallen out of love with you. Your smile still may be as beautiful as ever and your scent of red berry plum and jasmine may be intoxicating to any other man, but he feels absolutely nothing when he looks at you. The spark is gone, and unbeknownst to you your relationship is about to fall apart.

“Where did you run off to?” You ask him after setting the freshly baked sugar cookies onto the cooling rack nearby.

“I had an… errand to run,” he utters carefully, growing stiff when you wrap your arms around his torso and rest your head upon his shoulder. Calculatingly, Five hesitantly rests a hand on your back while the other comes to comb his fingers through your hair. It’s a familiar motion that he is easily able to replicate in order to portray himself as the same doting partner you know and love. Lila had sworn him to secrecy, but he wasn’t sure just how to break it off with you without telling the truth. So for now he would go through the motions and hope to god you didn’t pick up on the fact that something was completely wrong.

“I’m happy you’re here,” you profess earnestly, peering up at him with fluttering lashes and a devoted smile. “I love you, Five.”

His chest tightens in agony at your words, his hold on you tightening in an attempt to ground himself as he harshly swallows down his discomfort. He meets your adoring gaze and smiles, carefully tilting your chin upwards to meet his lips in a tender kiss. It’s believable enough to keep you feeling secure and oblivious to his detachment, and he hopes that maybe if he keeps this up he can forget all about Lila and go back to normal.

Even if it means he’s just playing a part.

Pulling away, he meets your loving stare and offers you a small smile. Hesitating, as if he has to force the words out of him, Five murmurs out a quiet, “I love you, too.”

And you believe him.

The aftermath of Ace nearly drowning! With many more times to come.

Tage is for a while their designated drowning-captain-savior at least until they get Wallace and Banshee on the crew (a fishman and mermaid respectively, so they’re both better than Tage at swimming and more suited to diving after their captain in the dangerous waters of the New World).

We’ve got maybe 2 or 3 more chapters to go before this arc of Sixis ends, and then maybe I’ll see about continuing with either a chronological storyline or jumping around like I did before. okay but one thing I do like about SaB is how they fleshed out mal more like . It really just occurred to me how codependent he and alina are and I love that he recognised that he actually didn't know his purpose outside of being alina's #1 for everything . I'm glad he decided to give himself space from alina to figure himself out after he "fulfilled his purpose" idk it gives me such simon snow vibes which I LOVE (in the sense that he doesn't know what to do after his role in the Main Story TM)

I think I'd like a mix of all options:

Aaron starts a relationship with someone before Robert returns. Both Aaron and his bf are happy together. After a few months Robert is released and moves into Vic's. Robert has developed agoraphobia so stays in the house all the time. Vic is nervous to update Aaron so keeps Robert a secret. Eventually, Aaron needs to nip into Vic's home for something only to discover his ex-husband. Whilst stunned, Aaron walks straight back out saying nothing. He marches back to his flat and lets his silence turn to anger and he stews before confronting Victoria. Hours later, his new boyfriend pops by for a visit but before Aaron could invite him in he spots Vic over his bf's shoulder walking home from work. He shoves his way out of his porch and makes a beeline for Vic. He starts yelling after her making all sorts of claims out of his fury. Robert, from the safety of Vic's cottage peeks out from a curtain to see what all the noise is. He sees Aaron shouting abuse and, for the first time since returning to the village, steps out into the main street for all to see.

Aaron turns his aggression towards Robert. Aaron starts to accuse Robert of being a liar and a cold blooded murderer thinking his words will cut Robert deep like Robert's desertion did to him 5 years ago. Robert becomes aware of the villagers who are watching from the other side of the street. Terrified to attempt to defend himself. He spots Wendy and is suddenly filled with utmost guilt. Unfortunately, Roberts silence only heightens Aaron's rage. Before he could say anything, Aaron charges at Robert and tackles him to the ground. Aaron is now pinning Robert down whilst screaming all his emotions out; tears streaming down his face. A large audience has now formed The Dingles all exchange glances and looks of concern towards each other. Moments later, Aaron's boyfriend tries to break them apart with the help from Vic but to no avail. Chas and Moira shoot a sharp look towards Cain and eye him to go help break it up, too. Against his own judgement, Cain grabs Aaron by the scruff of the neck and drags him back to his flat. Paddy and Chas chase the rest of the crowd away as Vic helps Robert to his feet and chaperones him back into her cottage.

Weeks go by and Aaron refuses to make eye contact with Robert. He never once acknowledges Robert's presence. He doesn't want Robert to think he still cares. During this period he emphasises all romantic gestures with his boyfriend if Robert is in eyesight. However, Robert fails to take much notice as he's too concerned over the residents thoughts in regards to him living back in the village. The weeks turn to months and Robert's anxiety only grows as the days go by. Vic tries to help her brother by encouraging him out for a drink in the woolpack. Reluctantly, Robert agrees to go with her. They perch themselves by the bar closest to the door (so Robert can make a quick getaway), however, there is a stag do in full swing by the time they arrive and Aaron is a guest of the party as his boyfriend is the best man. Robert swivels around so quickly he nearly gives himself whiplash but Vic clutches on to his forearm preventing him from making an escape. Aaron's face turns to thunder as he enforced his attention away from Vic and Robert. His boyfriend is having too much fun to even notice the sudden change in Aaron's demeanor. Robert being fully aware of his ex husband being merely inches from him set his nerves off. Victoria made failed attempts to ease him by saying "it can't get any worse than this". Of course it then did get much worse.

At that exact moment Wendy and Bob walked into The Woolpack for a drink. It didn't take long for Wendy to loudly announce passive aggressive comments directed towards Robert to the whole pub. She stretched as far as to link Heath's death with her own son's death. Victoria was stuck in-between a rock and a hard place. She loves her brother but doesn't want to push Harry's grandmother away. Obviously all shots of mediation were ignored by Wendy and Bob and most of the new residents sided with them because of all the horror stories that were spread around about Robert. All of the chaos was increasing Robert's anxiety and he became more uncomfortable by the second. His nerves were shot. He couldn't concentrate on anything that Victoria was saying. The only thing that seemed to stabilise his mental stat was the sight of Aaron. Of course by this point every one in the room was staring at Robert, including Aaron. They locked eyes at each other for only a moment before Aaron dragged his eyes away to the beer mat on the table. That moment created peace in Robert's mind. The crash. Charity has dropped a glass but that sudden sound pushed Robert back over the edge. He darted for the door and escaped into the darkness. Victoria now found the courage to defend her brother against Wendy and the rest of the pub and shamed the stag do members. Pointing directly at each person to force guilt upon them. One person was missing from the party though. Aaron.

Amidst the pandemonium in The Woolpack, no one had noticed Aaron sneaking out the back of the pub to chase after Robert. Against all better judgement, he wanted to check on Robert. That shared glance sparked something in him. He just knew something wasn't right with Robert. After all, Robert never shied away from confrontation. He thrives in it. The opportunity to outsmart someone gave him a buzz. The Robert he knew would stand his ground and argue his case across until he won. The Robert in the pub wasn't his Robert.

Aaron knocked at Vic's home but there was no answer. There were no signs of life at all. He next ran down by the B&B to see if Robert was seeking refuge with Eric but there was no luck. He next searches the garage but stumbles upon Mac instead locking up for the night. Mac is about to ask Aaron how he's holding up but before he could get the question out Aaron runs off in the direction of Vanessa's. She was the only other person in the village to stand by Robert's return. He was hoping she would be hiding him from the entourage in the pub but, again, with no luck. Aaron is starting to get desperate. His concern quickly turned to uneasiness. He was starting to properly worry about Robert. He was rattling his brain for places he might be. His next bet was the cemetery. Aaron hated visiting there. Ghosts from his past were all buried there. All the ghosts he cared about that is. He sprinted down towards the church and jumped over the short wall. Scanned every corner with no Robert in sight. His eyes did fall onto one gravestone. Liv's. Suddenly, one memory of all three of them flooded his mind. That gave him an idea.

He scampered his way out of the cemetery and down the road until he got to the back of The mill. He followed a winding path that led to an opening of woodland. As he neared the opening he saw a shadow. An outline of someone. His speed slowed as he approached with caution. The closer he got the clearer the silhouette became. It was Robert. He was leaning on the handrail of the footbridge. The same footbridge Robert had embraced him on many a time in the past. The same footbridge the two would throw stones from with Seb. Robert looked deflated. There was no energy in him whatsoever. He looked like a bare copy of himself. This vulnerability tore down what was left of the little wall Aaron had built for himself to keep Robert out. Despite all the heartbreak and misery he had endured at the hands of Roberts actions here he was again. Willing to fall back into old habits but how could he stop himself?

Robert was blindly staring at his reflection in the stream. He failed to hear the approaching footsteps of Aaron. Gently, Aaron crossed his forearms and rested them on the same handrail inches next to Robert. He slowly peered over the edge and nestled his chin into his arms. Aaron gazed into Robert's eyes in the stream. Robert slowly scanned over to Aaron's reflection. Feeling that serenity brush over him once again at the mere glimpse of Aaron. Robert caught himself off guard by how hastily he confessed his anxiety about being back in the village. How he was sorry for how he ended their marriage. How he hated that he missed Liv's funeral. How he hates how quickly he threw his life away for one bad decision.

Robert sobs harder and harder for every admittance of all of his regrets and surrenders himself to his grief. Without any hesitation he lets slip the trauma he suffered whilst in prison. Knowing how hard life was for him when he was jailed away, Aaron throws one arm over Roberts shoulders and pulls him in closer. For the first time, Robert welcomes the physical embrace. They both relaxed into one another. They both clearly needed it. They both remain on the bridge quietly enjoying the stream shimmer in the moonlight.

After a while, Aaron and Robert break apart and gaze into each other's eyes. Robert opens his mouth to speak before Aaron interrupts him. "I told you I'd wait". Aaron spoke those words as though they were the magic key to freeing Robert. Relief fell upon Robert as though the heaviest weight had been lifted. He could breathe for the first time again. "Yeah?" Robert sighed with a slight smile stretching the corner of his mouth as his eyes glisten with hope. Aaron's face softens as he mimics Robert's expression. Without any hesitation or consideration Aaron leans in and kisses Robert. Hearts start to flutter but Robert jolts back pulling away from the kiss. They both stare towards each other before Robert returns his focus to the stream. Reality kicks in for him. "Don't!" Roberts whispers. A tear falling down his cheek. Robert doesn't feel worthy of Aaron's attention. He believes Aaron is better off without him. Everyone is better off without him. Robert turns his back to Aaron but before Robert can walk off Aaron grabs his arm "You can't keep walking out on me like that, Robert". Those very words killed the fluttering instantly. There was a sinking feeling like guilt was an anchor tied to his heart pulling it down. Aaron continued, "I know how hard it must've been in there but I would've stuck by you regardless. Helped you through it. I was willing to wait the whole 14 years because you were worth it. You are worth it." Aaron bit his lip as he realised what he'd just admitted out loud. The feelings he had been trying to compress. Robert, confused by Aaron's confession, stood teary eyed looking back at the man he so adored and yearned for feeling defeated. "But I'm not. I mean, I can't even step out the front door without fear of having a panic attack." Aaron remained baffled by this statement. How can Robert believe that? After everything. Aaron reaches out for Roberts arm and tilts his head ever so slightly that it draws Robert's stare back onto him. "You are to me". The words echoing those Robert once used for him. Robert also remembered the relevance of those specic words. Robert instinctively glanced down at Aaron's lips and back to his eyes. That was enough for Aaron to lean for a second kiss.

This time Robert kisses back and suddenly it's like they haven't been apart for the past 5 years. They fell back into their own natural rhythm with their bodies matching the other as they smoothly swayed from side to side. Aaron's hands travel to Robert's back holding him close as Roberts holds Aaron's face in his. Reluctantly, they pull away from each other only to rest their foreheads against one another. Aaron pulls his hands away from Roberts waist and traces his physique as they glide upwards his sides and across his chest. He lightly strokes down Roberts arms as he finds his hands, which are still cupping either side of Aaron's face, to take in his. They entwine their fingers as they relax their arms down by their sides. Foreheads still resting against one another fearing to break apart. Both wish to stay in this moment forever.

Thus, starting their second affair-era as Aaron will inevitably listen to his family who think getting back with Robert is a bad idea so will be guilt tripped into staying with this new boyfriend but will continue to rather seek out Robert for any true romantic connections.
