Lydia stands in the doorway of her almost daughter-in-law’s dressing suite. She’s never left alone, and for some reason, here she was. Her delicate pink manicured fingers adding a final touch to her look before she ever spots Lydia’s reflection.
“Mrs. Baizen, I was just about to head to get Carter and Otto.”
“It’s good to have a word with you alone,” Story takes a deep gulp, and her eyes fall to vanity in front of her. Trying to avoid Lydia’s eyes and ignore her words. “You married up well.”
Story spins around and looks at Lydia, her bright blue eyes trying to hold onto her calmness. Repeating how she’s marrying the love of her life, and no one can take that away from her.
“He built you that beautiful castle on your family’s property.”
“I didn’t ask for that.”
“Giving you a dream wedding inside a real castle. Having a real life prince coming to your wedding, when yours is nothing but a fairy tale concocted by a silly little girl,” Story goes to walk around the woman, not wanting to cause a scene, but Lydia stops her by grabbing a hold of her arm.
“I love your son. I have always loved your son. To me, he’s perfect. A perfect fiancé, perfect father…”
“Are you going to always play this game? You wanted to be a real princess, and you’re marrying a man worth more than some royal families. A coincidence?”
“I was in love with Carter before I understood money.”
“Sweetheart, I don’t mean to come at you hard. It’s just…we Baizen’s have a reputation to uphold. Had you two have gotten married when you were seventeen before you terminated my actual grandchild I wouldn’t have cared. You have used your body to trap my son. He won’t even tell me if you’re going to give him his own children. Just want to parade that…”
“You speak a word about my son, and I won’t take it too kindly, Lydia. Otto is four. He is a child. You say what you want to about me. But you keep his name and existence out of your mouth. Have I made myself clear? When or if Carter and I decide to have more children, that is our business and not your own,” Story stands up a bit taller, glaring at the woman who was nothing but cruel to her almost husband.
“That baby knows nothing about what is cost for him to be here. He doesn’t know the vile woman that you are. Doesn’t know how you laid your hands on his dad because you claimed he wasn’t good enough. Your son, is now mine. I don’t want his money, I want him. That is all i have ever wanted my whole life. You wanna know why you’re even here Lydia?”
Lydia licks her lips, amused that Carter decided to spill their little secrets to his tartlette. Nothing but arm candy. A disgrace because she had a child out of wedlock and now the mistake carries on their family name.
“Tell me, princess, why am I here?”
“Because of me,” Lydia scoffs at her, deeply rolling her eyes. “Carter didn’t want you or Gregory here. I was the one that told him his parents needed to be here. Why do you think Caroline doesn’t talk to you? She moved to London to get away from you. Married her off at the age of four. Couldn’t get TJ either could you.”
“Aster was better suited for Carter,” Story only rolls her eyes. “TJ is nothing but a twink. There’s stories going around about you and him.”
“Ooh…stories don’t hurt me anymore. Just like your lame attempt to make me untrusting of my future husband. Carter is mine, and I am his. It was destined in the stars for us. He never loved Aster. Just like she never loved him. You pushed a child into an adult relationship, and both my sister and Carter suffered for that.”
“You like sloppy seconds?”
“Your husband does,” Lydia scoffs at Story. “You wanna talk about the rumors about me and TJ? Let’s talk about yours. Where would you be without your husband’s money? Your family money is gone. Squandered away by your father who had an addiction. Money isn’t everything Lydia.”
Story dusts off a piece of fuzz of her shoulder and gives her that megawatt smile that Carter can’t get enough of.
“And unlike you, I make money. If you and Gregory had a marriage based around love like me and your son will have, you might have half the relationship we will have. I’ll give him all the babies my body can handle. I will treat him like the king he is. Our son, Otto is already learning the business. I’d be afraid. Should Carter ever leave the company, do you think you can stand on your own? My children will love and respect us. We won’t parent out of fear, and I won’t push my children into a life that they don’t want. My life will be rich with love. You’ll have no one but your miserable husband. Don’t ruin this Lydia. I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, that you don’t deserve.”
“Don’t use your idle threats against me little girl. He’s marrying arm candy that doesn’t even have a high school diploma. Couldn’t even finish and had to result in a GED. You’re just not good enough.”
Story’s left hand goes over her mouth as she feigns a yawn. That Harry Winston Diamond that Carter bought just for her when she was seventeen catching the light and Lydia’s eye perfectly, “What was that you were saying? I’m marrying him. And you can either accept that, or you can leave our wedding.”
“It’s your wedding. This show is for you.”
“I could have got married in the back of my family’s estate. Carter insisted on the castle. I don’t care about the wedding. I care about him. Lydia, why don’t you fill that pussy of yours with something, and you might loosen up. Now if you excuse me, I’m going to see my son, and my fiancé. Do not come at me with your fucking attitude again this weekend. It won’t end well for you.”
Story’s heels click down the hall, when she stops, looking back to see if Lydia had followed, but she still remains in her suite. Story takes a few calming breaths, when she starts to hyperventilate. Looking at the floor and feeling like the walls are closing in on her.
Blade had been making his way to get Story, asking her what suit Otto was supposed to wear when he sees his sister, trying to hold back tears. Breathing erratically when he goes to stand in front of her. Grabbing up her hand to place on his heart, while his hand presses on that spot where her heart used to lay. “Ree, listen to my breathing. Feel it. Breathe in. Breathe out.”
All the times that a young and adult Story did this for him, he didn’t hesitate. Her protector, her bubba, her Prince Charming. “Story,” he calmly says again when her eyes focus on him. “Sissy, you good?”
“I need air.”
“Otto…what suit?”
“Three…uh…” Story pauses when Lydia finally walks out her suite, giving the girl, a smirk as she walks away. Lydia realizes she did in fact rattle Story, even if she was so strong while in there. “Bladey…I need air.”
“What did she do?” Story just shakes her head. “Story, what did she do?”
“She thinks I’m not…I don’t deserve him.”
Blade gives her a tap on the center of her chest. “What do you think?”
“He’s all I’ve ever wanted.”
“Do you deserve him?” she shakes her head no, and Blade’s face falls.
“I don’t. Nobody does. In my eyes he’s perfect. I don’t care that I don’t deserve him, I want him. I need him in mine and Otto’s life. And I can’t live without him. He’s always been mine. My Sir Lancelot. And I don’t care that I don’t deserve him.”
“Come on, sissy, let’s get you cleaned back up, and I’ll go get Otto dressed. You need to go see the future king. He’s a wreck. And this is only day one. We’ve got tomorrow with the wedding. Tell me again why you needed a whole week for your wedding.”
“I wanted it in the backyard, until Carter showed me the picture of the castle.”
“Hey,” he tilts her head up to look at him. “He doesn’t deserve you either. You are perfect. But you two cherish each other, and I think that shows you that you are going to last. He loves you, and just as important, he loves that little man. Story, whatever that disgusting woman had to say, don’t believe it. She’s losing her money maker, and you’re the reason. They feel Carter pulling away from the company. Lydia is trying everything, so don’t let her win.”
“Thanks, Bub. I wanna go see my future husband,” Blade tilts his head to the side, “I don’t need air anymore. I need Carter.”
“I don’t get it.”
“One day you will.”
Story walks into Carter’s suite, James sitting in a chair watching him straighten up his tie, but with a whistle to Story, he goes to stand. Giving her a big hug before walking out. “You’re here early, Princess.”
“I just needed to spend some time with you. Blade’s getting little man situated. When he’s not running around with his Papa.”
“You okay?”
“Never better,” Carter knows she’s lying. He’s studied her face enough to see the slight swelling of her skin. The little bit of blood shot veins weaving in her bright eyes. And even the sound of her voice.
“Honey…”
“Carter, I’m fine, babe. I had a moment.”
“Cold feet?”
“I have waited my whole life to marry you. Not somebody, but you. I’ll be dammed if I have cold feet. Just…your mother paid a visit,” Carter walks quickly to Story. Her appearance now making sense. “I took care of it.”
“She made you upset.”
“And I gave her a reality check. I cry when I get angry and when she talks about my husband and son, I take…”
“What did she say about Otto?”
“You know what she said,” Carter grits his teeth. “I want…this is our time Carter. I don’t want her to dictate our joy.”
“I didn’t want her here. She has one year. If…Story, one year, and I’m leaving the company. If she ever treats our next kids any different than Otto, she will not see them. I never demand anything from you, but I’m putting my foot down. That woman…your parents are enough grandparents for them. I won’t be questioned about it.”
“No, I know,” her hands go to pet at his face, and she leans in for a soft kiss. “After our wedding, everything concerning your family, you take the lead and I follow. I’m done playing nice with her, okay? Now, breathe in. And I’m gonna mark you up. You okay with tying this back up?” she asks already pulling at his tie.
“If it means, you’re giving me a hickey, yes I can,” Story bites at her lip and smirks up at him. “That’s why no lipstick yet?”
“Yep.”
“I love you Story Dry…”
“We’ve only got one more day, start calling me Story Baizen.”
“Whatever you need Mrs. Baizen,” Story gives him a shutter at the name. “Better make this quick. It won’t take long for Blade to bring Otto in here. I’ve got him a few things,” Story responds by starting to pepper soft open mouth kisses on his neck. Nipping at his sensitive skin. Adding just a few hickies to him that will easily be covered by his collar.
“It’s like we’re young all over again,” Carter’s hands drift down her back, memorizing her curves and soft skin. Enjoying the last few hours he has with her, before she enjoys the evening with her sisters, mom, and friends.
When she leans back to look at her work of art, Story slowly begins to button his shirt, tying his bow tie herself, just like she saw her mom do with her dad her whole life. Neither of them realizing the love and closeness it brought them. “All this going on, and I never got to appreciate how stunningly beautiful you look, princess. And you’re mine.”
“I always was Carter.”

I think diving a little into the Baizen’s could give us a little more insight on why Carter is why he is. He saw his parents in an almost loveless relationship (more of a kinship with legal obligations) and saw every day how it effected them. Then he saw the Drysdale’s and knew what he wanted. He’s been spoiling Story since she was little. He’s always had this pull to her that he didn’t have with Aster. And by no means does that make Aster a bad person. I personally relate to her more than any of the other kids. However, I wish my life was more like Story’s.
Listen, ask and ye shall receive! I'll admit that Story is a baby. She was babied by her parents for sure, and then eventually Carter, throughout her life. I will never say that Carter and Aster weren't friends, because they were playing together at Ransom and Kitten's wedding. She talked very fondly with him when they were younger, but when he really started to push to be a couple, is when she started to retreat from him. Aster is not a bad person, nor is she cold. She's goal oriented. Carter's love language is gifts, but he also is touch starved, and Aster isn't a touchy person. Story is. Story slept in her parents bed even as a teenager. She kept her fingers wrapped around Ransom's ring finger throughout her life, even as an adult pregnant with Otto, he mentions how she was holding his ring finger.
I also understand that everyone is going to gravitate to different characters, but that's why I love this AU is because there's so many! Even with the Drysdale's, their siblings are SO different. I think it just hurts when people go hard on the hate Story train, and maybe I don't understand. And maybe it's because people haven't seen who she is when no one is looking.
But without further ado, let's look into Carter's home life away from the Drysdale's.

The invite to one of the biggest events of the year for Boston’s elite was to be expected. Lydia opened up the invitation to the Drysdale wedding, and the invite from none other than Linda Drysdale herself. She had heard that there were two young girls in the family. She takes a look at her young son, her daughter already having been betrothed, now to find him one. A girl set to gain part of the ever growing Thrombey estate would be a nice touch.
She’s just going to have to check it out herself. Needing to get the best suit money can buy for an almost three-year-old. She knows how much appearances mean, knows that in order to further hers and Gregory’s wealth and status, they needed a suitable woman for her son’s future. Why not start here.
______
Watching Carter interact with the young girl made Lydia giddy. She could see how charmed her son was. Saw just how easily the annoyingly shy son of hers got along with the dramatic child. She’d have to fix that personality. But she was a pretty little thing; captivated him the moment he saw her. Even though Lydia saw a future, Carter saw a little girl his age. A child that got to play, when he was told to sit still and be quiet.
Carter fell into a pattern of needing your family as soon as you walked over to him. Even in your wedding dress, you squat down to hug your daughter; extending out an arm to him, “You’re a handsome little one,” you coo down at the young boy. “What’s your name?”
“Carter Rory Baizen,” he answers so sweetly to you. His eyes looking down to the ground now that he had answered an adult. You tilt your head to the side looking at him. There’s an almost familiar quality to him. The same thing you saw in Ransom. Insecure about the world he’s living in.
“I think we’re going to be good friends, Carter Rory Baizen. Do you mind if I call you Carter?” again you hold out your arm to give the shy boy a hug. Aster now, clinging to your side. Carter timidly walks over, and when you wrap your arm around him, the small boy nearly melts in your embrace. His face burying into the satin of your dress.
“You look like a princess.”
“I am today, cutie. Maybe sometime we can get a playdate for you. Would you like that?”
Carter gives you an odd expression. Repeating the words in his mind, “Play?”
“Yeah. Run around outside. Toys, paint, color. Play.”
“Won’t I get dirty?”
“We’d love to set up a playdate with you guys. Your daughter how old is she?” Lydia walks over to you, Aster still on your hip. You stand up to shake her hand. As soon as your hand falls, the little boy grabs ahold, looking up at you with those big blue eyes.
“She’s two.”
“And and?” Aster interrupts, causing an odd look from Lydia, and Carter to hold tighter to your hand.
“Two years and four months.”
________________________________________________________________
Lydia stirs her tea, and lays the spoon down, taking a long sip before her eyes roll up to meet her son, his gaze pointing at the table. She’s not speaking to him, so he shouldn’t look at her. Such a difference in how he’s treated at the Drysdale’s. He takes a bite of his breakfast, still not looking at her.
Lydia smiles at how well behaved her son is. Very different from your own rambunctious children. Had they had a different last name, she wouldn’t push her son to pursue the oldest of your children so hard. She would make a great match for him. “Carter?”
“Ma’am?” he finally looks up at his mother’s cold face. Ready to finish their emotionless breakfast, and head to the Drysdale’s for the weekend.
“How are things with Aster?”
“Things are going well, ma’am.”
She gives him a soft smile. Not exactly the detailed information she was looking for. “I was hoping that you two would have went on a date by now,” Carter scrunches up his face and quickly looks at the table. “Is there a problem?”
“We’re friends. We’re only thirteen.”
“I thought I made myself clear, that she’s the one who would make a suitable wife for you. Would give you children to carry on the Baizen name. She would further your wealth, instead of taking away from it,” Carter looks back at the table, giving the tiniest of head shakes. “Son, fairy tales don’t exist. I know you play those stupid games with the little one, but they’re not real. Look at marriage like a contract. She’s a beautiful girl. You could look at worse things for the rest of your life.”
“But we’re friends,” Lydia stands up, walking to the other end of the table. Her manicured fingernails run down his cheek, and he flinches away.
“You’re becoming a coward. You have a duty to this family. What are your plans today?” his eyes still point at the table, and he refuses to answer. He knows that she won’t like it. “Carter, you’re being spoken to. I expect an answer.”
“A ballet recital,” Lydia rolls her eyes, going to walk back to her seat to finish her breakfast. “Aster will be there ma’am.”
“Then I suggest you start making your moves.”
________________________________________________________________
Carter walks into his home, his mother with a glass of wine pointing towards the door as he enters through the door. She knew he was going to be a disappointment. Knew he would be coming home before curfew, and on his senior prom night. “Should have figured,” she takes a long sip of her wine. “I guess she ran off with another one of her boy toys. Word gets around in the elite. Maybe if you did a better job of fucking her she’d still be around.”
Carter stands solemn at the door, his eyes pointing straight ahead and ignoring his mother. “Like father like son. Can’t satisfy a woman.”
Finally he turns to look at her, brows furrowed. “I was a kid. You pushed me into something I wasn’t ready for, and it was both of our first time. We didn’t know what we were doing.”
“You took her little sister flowers,” she laughs out a cold snarl. “A sister who is obsessed with you for some reason. She’ll find out about your minute man dick, when that twat starts talking about you. She’ll lose her interest too,” Carter turns to walk out the door, with no desire to hear about his mother’s constant disappointment in him. Not knowing where to go, just knowing he doesn’t want to be with her drunk self. “Such a fuck up,” she says to no one.
He’s not sure why, but he found himself on the Drysdale property. Far off into the woods with a bottle of bourbon. He sits on the cold ground, taking drink straight from the bottle and looks up at the hippo. “Screw up. Aster doesn’t want to be with me, anymore than I want to be with her,” he looks up at the sky, and just barely sees that star. “She doesn’t even want to hold my hand, you know? I don’t want to hold hers either, just want...want someone to want me. Want to touch me. Want to smile when they see me,” he coughs out a laugh, looking up the hill to the darkened estate. Only one light remains on. High up in that tower room.
“I want someone to see me like she does, you know Harry?” he takes another long drink from his bottle, and lays down in the grass. “I’m fucking talking to a statue, and alone on prom night. Do you know how many girls hit on me? I’ve denied them, because I’ve been told, Aster Drysdale, Aster Drysdale. She’s nice until I try to touch her, and then she’s a bitch. Let’s Chase touch all over her though. I am a fuck up. I should just start fucking for the sake of it huh? I’m not a minute man either. I’m just a fuck up,” he takes his last drink of the evening. Settling himself back down on the ground, before letting his eyes flutter closed.
The next morning Story puts on her pink rainboots, needing to go talk to her Grandpa’s menageries, stopping only for a minute to give him a hug and kiss. “Making your rounds?” Harlan asks with a wink.
“I gotta make sure they don’t have limbs on them. Wouldn’t want them to get dirty,” she walks down into the woods, singing some made up song. Stomping through the limbs, taking her time to dust off each statue she comes to. “If you start your morning with a walk, you get in a better mood,” singing she jumps into a small puddle, and shrieks when she sees a dead body laying on the ground. “Don’t move. Wait...you’re dead. Oh my god, let me go get my daddy...ahh!” her voice screams when it starts to move.
“Could you quit screaming princess?”
“Sir Lancelot, why are you sleeping on the ground. I thought you were a body. Like a dead one.”
“I should be dead,” he sits up to look around, head pounding, and the world spinning.
“Why?’
“Because I drank.”
“Daddy drinks every night. A bottle just like that one.”
“Drank too much. What are you doing?”
“Some of us, don’t sleep outside, and get a morning walk in and clean the menageries from the fallen debris,” she looks at the ground and even though it disgusts her, she sits down to look at him. “You’re still in your tux.”
“Mom and I got in a fight.”
“Well, when my mom and I get in a fight, I don’t go to people’s house, and sleep in their woods, in a tux too. It’s kinda weird Baizen.”
Carter grunts out a laugh, but then grimaces holding his head. “I prefer when you call me Sir Lancelot.”
“I think I’m getting too old for fairy tales.”
He looks up at the little girl that he’s always admired. Her eyes a bit puffy, although he doesn’t know it’s because she was crying the night before. Her face losing that baby like appearance of it. “Don’t say that. Fairy tales can be real.”
“I’m not really a princess.”
“Someone will treat you like a princess. You’ll see. They’ll sweep you off your feet, make you smile. Have a love like your mom and dad, and the day that you get married, you’re going to wrap your fingers around Prince Charming’s ring finger. A pretty diamond tennis bracelet around your wrist. I bet you’ll even have a tiara.”
“I don’t wanna marry Prince Charming. That would just be weird.”
“Well fine then. You’ll marry a knight in shining armor. Believe in your fairy tales Princess Story book. Don’t let people make you settle for anything less than you want.”
________________________________________________________________
Carter paces around in his parents living room. Hardly able to speak. In one pocket is the ring he bought for Story a few months back, in the other is her rose necklace; it’s always with him. “Ransom is gonna kill me.”
“Legally you’re safe. She’s seventeen, age of consent,” Gregory tries to calm his agitated son. “You could have at least waited until she was eighteen. That girl worshipped the ground you walked on.”
Lydia’s finger toys with her ring thinking. She had always saw Carter with Aster, but now, he’s trapped the younger daughter. She was exceptionally beautiful, looked good on her son’s arm. She had seen them out and about. Thinking that her son was a failure, only to see he went off for the younger model. She’d make a fine trophy wife. Would play the part of his housewife well.
Aster always had goals and dreams, she’s never heard anyone speak of Story’s outside her annoying fantasy realm. A child out of wedlock isn’t ideal, but if they could hide the pregnancy long enough for them to get married, explaining that they didn't’ want to wait. “Let me see the ring,” Carter opens the box, and dreads to hear what his mother says. “It’s quite a fancy ring for a contract.”
“I love her,” he scoffs looking at his mother.
“Marriage isn’t about love. You’re fuck up could very well could be what I’ve always wanted from you. Do you not know what causes a pregnancy?”
“Antibiotics messed up her birth control.”
“Oh, maybe it’s really her that’s trapping you. A girl with no long term goals, lands a billionaire. At least she’s willing to be with you son.”
“She loves me. This isn’t a contract, and she didn’t trap me. She...we’re in love like Mr. and Mrs. Drysdale.”
“They’re in love with each others genitals, son,” Gregory tells him. “We’re all the same. You learn to live as happily as you can. Some of us just get wives that are willing to do their wifely duties better than others. This girl, clearly you’re having sex. Was it often?”
“Gregory, no. Carter, we’re going to go to the Drysdale’s and explain everything. You’ll propose to the little tart, and she can have her fairy tale wedding, smiling for the cameras. We’ll have to spend more money than I had hoped, gonna have to speed this up, so she’s not showing for the wedding, but she’ll look pretty on your arm. Carter and Story Baizen, it has a nice ring. You did well son. I’m proud of you for finding a suitable wife.”
Carter was disgusted, up until the last part. He had never heard either of his parents praise him. Forgetting every last thing that was said prior, because his mom is proud of him for the first time. Had Carter not gotten a high from that praise, he never would have allowed his parents to join him. Carter knew the right course was to talk to Ransom and you alone. Knew that he also had to apologize to Story. And since he didn’t, it set course a lot of heartache for Story, but somehow, the knight in shining armor still rescued his princess.

Oh man, Story and Carter…seems like she’s going to make the right decision for a 17 year old though. Without knowing if I’m right, I’m always happy when stories of shows of movies let their characters make that choice. There is so much pro-birth propaganda shoved in our faces and we hardly even realize it. Feel free not to post this if you’d prefer. I know it can be a touchy subject.
It's an extremely sensitive subject. But it is apart of life. Let's dive back into Story and Carter...

Story Drysdale Masterlist
You try to watch your daughter over the next few days. She completely avoided Ransom during the day, but at night she was crawling in your bed. Something she hadn't done for months, and now you know why. More than once you woke up to her crying into your chest, and you were unaware of what you needed to do, so you were just there.
That night after supper, Ransom already kicked back to watch TV while you were cleaning up in the kitchen, he stands to open the door, finding none other than Gregory, Lydia, and Carter Baizen, "We need to talk," Gregory informs Ransom.
"Okay, come in. What's this about?"
"Your daughter," Lydia looks around the house looking for Story but she spots you. "Where is she?"
Ransom confused looks between them, "You know very well that Aster is living with Scott in the city. What is this about?"
"Story. Where is she?"
Story hearing the commotion was already walking downstairs, and as soon as she sees Carter, he gives her a weak smile, but you see her heart soar, until her hands go to her stomach, and then she's sad all over again, "Story, I'm sorry for what happened the other night. I panicked I was scared. I shouldn't have said..." Carter pauses when he sees Ransom's grumpy face.
"Would somebody please tell me what's going on?" his eyes look at you, and you're speechless. "Y/N, why are they here? And why is he talking to my daughter like they've seen each other recently?"
"I figured you would know. We're going to be grandparents," Lydia smiles over to Ransom and then back up at Story. Story's eyes find you before back at Ransom.
"Daddy, I'm sorry," but his eyes roll to meet Carter's.
"I thought I told you to stay away from her."
"I couldn't."
"She's seventeen years old. When did you have time..." he turns to look at Story, her hand fiddling with the diamond tennis bracelet. Finally catching on to where all the gifts had been coming from. Ransom had checked his statement multiple times and no high price tag items had been purchased. "How long?" the two of them silent. "HOW LONG?"
"Ransom, we shouldn't make Story upset in her condition," Lydia starts speaking softly to her, and Story walks quickly to your side. "I always knew one of you would be apart of our family."
"Mother stop."
"How long, Carter?"
"Eight months," Story gives him the tiniest smile, because he knew. "I came here on her birthday and gave her the bracelet."
"You weren't there," Ransom uses his low register voice, and you know he's holding back his anger, and you grip tighter to your daughter.
"It was after the party sir. I climbed...I went through her window."
Ransom takes a moment to breathe, his eyes looking at you before back to the Baizen's. "Ransom, there's no need to get worked up. We'll take care of her. Carter has a nice apartment, and has been looking for a house. They can be a family and make it work. We'll need to get you a doctor, how far along do you think you are dear? I heard there was a mistake with your birth control?" Lydia's cloying voice grates on your everlasting nerves.
You're surprised when it's Story that speaks up, "I don't need to see a doctor. There's...I'm not pregnant," with one glance at Carter you see a mixture of relief and pure sadness running through his mind.
"What do you mean? Y/N...what did you do?"
"She had an abortion. She wasn't ready."
Gregory laughs, "Should have known. She wasn't ready for a baby, but was ready to spread her legs."
"Father," Carter looks at his dad pissed, but it's Ransom that gets the final say.
"Get out of my house."
"For too long you two have acted better than us. We have watched your daughters whore around with my son. Did you not know where she was?" Gregory gives a smirk to Ransom and Carter backs away from his dad disgusted.
"Did it mean anything?" your husband's eyes are only on Carter. "Did it fucking mean anything to you?"
"Daddy."
"I should press charges on you."
"Daddy no!"
"I trusted you to protect my baby. And you're taking advantage of her. Bringing your parents here to bully her into being your housewife. I am beyond disappointed in you. I have looked at you like a son. We took care of you when your parents wouldn't. Let you into our home,"
"Ransom, stop it!" you see Carter's face fall with each word. Returning to that scared little boy that you just wanted to show love to.
"While your parents are treating her like a common whore, did they know she had never been on a date, never had a boyfriend, and she was still a virgin? Did it mean anything to you?"
Carter gives one look to Story, mouthing an 'I'm sorry' before standing up straight looking at Ransom, "No, sir."
Story's body crumbles in your arms and she cries out a pained, "You're lying."
"If I have to tell you three one more time to get out of my house, I'm calling the fucking cops. Get. Out. Of. My. House."
"You'll regret this Drysdale," Gregory spits before grabbing ahold of Carter's sleeve, nearly dragging the boy out of the living room. As soon as the door closes, Story dashes upstairs and you go to follow her.
"Not you," his voice growls at you.
"Ransom, my daughter needs me."
"She needed you eight months ago! You knew! You fucking knew about this, and you let him...she needed you," it's hard to look at Ransom, he's hurt, scared, and pissed. A deadly combination. "And then you...how could you?"
"It was her decision. He left her alone when she told him she was pregnant. She was scared. She was scared of you, scared that she lost her first love."
"You took her."
"IT WAS HER DESICION!"
Ransom's eyes fill with tears and he struggles to look at you, "You would have never done that."
"I wasn't seventeen years old."
"She's a baby."
You bite at your lip, your finger messing with your wedding rings, "Exactly. She's a scared baby, and you want to force her to have a baby?"
"No."
"Then quit acting like she's the worse person in the room. I'll take all the blame if that's what you want. I knew that Carter had been here. You did too," Ransom straightens up his face remembering when the two of you rushed back from your weekend getaway. "She said that he waited months before he would have sex with her," Ransom's face turns up in disgust. "She loves him, and he just left," you start to fall, but Ransom's arms catch you. "He left our baby alone and scared. He wasn't returning her calls, Ran, what did you expect her to do?"
"I know. I'm sorry."
"Can I please go see my daughter? She needs me."
"Tell her to get in our bed."

Story’s hand lazily rubs up and down Carter’s chest, while her lips still kiss against his sticky skin. He has never felt this important before. Never had someone make him feel the way that she does. Story looks at him like he hung the moon, treats him like he’s the most important person in the room, and he’s addicted to it. He’s always felt that way with Story, not even realizing that she has always wanted him in her life.
She turns her head and gives a soft kiss over his heart, and Carter wants to melt. Wants to tell her how much he loves her, tell her that they should just come clean with their relationship, even if they had to be apart for a few month until she turned eighteen, she would be worth the wait. But he doesn’t.
Story melts onto her boyfriends body. Everything feels so right with him. Always has, but now it’s perfectly right. So much of Story made her feel out of place with her siblings, but she felt complete with Carter. He never got irritated with her or roll his eyes at her. Everything about Story, Carter found fascinating.
He had spotted Aster at the famer’s market the other day. Her sister had started walking closer to them, but he jumped in front of Story’s body, but he saw that shocked expression, and knew that Aster had in fact seen who Carter had been hugged up against.
Aster saw the difference in Carter since being with Story, even tried to push his boundaries, to which he didn’t give into. But it’s left Story with so many questions. She wasn’t sure if Carter’s reluctance was because he wanted to keep their relationship a secret from her father, or from Aster. “Carter?” he hums out a hmm, waiting on her to speak more. “How long did you and Aster date? She always kept so many secrets.”
“We never dated.”
“But...”
“You really wanna have this conversation now? I just got finished watching you ride on top of me, and you wanna talk about this,” her fingers pet around his abs, but she whispers out a yes. “My mom, she saw Aster as a contract, a suitable wife.”
“Why her?”
“Well, you weren’t born. Good family, good last name, could expand my own wealth, and have kids to carry on the Baizen name. She harped on that notion the whole time I was in school. I got smacked across the face just for mentioning another girl. She was on scholarship, not good stock. The more I pushed, the more Az pulled away. Lucky for me her younger twin sister was leaving her behind in the boy department. James and Iris started to get physical and Aster was curious.”
“That vacation? The one...she was holding your hand and kept smiling over at me. It wasn’t exactly a secret that I had a crush on you. She just...she liked having something I couldn’t have. So, she was your first?”
“I didn’t want to talk about this.”
“Answer the question,” Story holds her duvet over her chest, and sits up to stare at Carter. “She was wasn’t she?” he nods his head, looking away from her. “Did you want her to be?” he shakes his head no, finally turning back to look at Story. Carter sits up in her bed, and gives her a soft kiss. “Why did you do it then?”
“Duty. All I’ve wanted was for someone to tell me how proud they were of me. Tell me they love me. I thought I would be landing the girl of my mother’s dreams, and my mom would be proud of me. It made things worse. Aster wouldn’t look at me or talk to me. My mom called me a failure and...I had to miss a couple of days of school. I still tried with Aster, and still pushed her further away from me. It never meant anything. No one did, until you.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“No, I’m not. I didn’t want to have this conversation, because I can’t change it. I can’t take it back, even though I wish I could. I lost my childhood because I was so focused on making my mother happy. You’re the first person that has ever wanted me happy. I wasn’t ready for what happened between me and Aster, and I didn’t know what she was doing with you.”
“I was a child. It didn’t mean anything.”
“It did. Where are we at right now? Am I not in your bed? Do I not come here almost every single night? Story, you mean everything to me. I guess in a way you always have. I’ve had this odd pull towards you, because you remind me of how I wish I was able to be. Reading fairy tales, and getting to play, use your imagination. I have a duty to my family, and our business. Your parents let you be a kid. They weren’t telling you at six-years-old that someone would make a perfect spouse for you. Telling you when you were eleven to ask someone out on a date and get the ball rolling. Your dad would dance around with you, he taught you to ride a bike. My parents bought me a Rolex and expensive cologne because I asked for it. I was wearing suits by the time I was six. You wore tutus and rainboots. I never got to be a child, unless I was here. And then here comes this tiny little baby, that looked like the princess I thought your mom was.”
“What?” Story giggles through the tears that had been steadily falling down her cheeks. Randomly Carter would wipe them off of her.
“I met her at your parents wedding. She looked like a princess, and I wanted to marry a princess after that. My parents say that they aren’t in love, but even now, you’re parents are crazy in love. I want that.”
“Maybe you’ll find that then.”
“Maybe I did.”

All this talk about how awful Lydia is… I need to know what tensions and relationships are like post Story & Carter wedding. Did they finally cut toxic 1 & 2 (aka Carter’s parents) out of their lives? Did Lydia try to make a scene at the wedding which Lucy promptly stopped with a glass of red wine? I gotta know…🤨
-🥭
Ooh...this is a good one. Lydia is just not a nurturing person at all. All the love Carter craved as a child, he got from the Drysdale's. His parents really liked that he was there, because Aster was a pretty girl, smart, and "comes from good stock". When they barged into the estate with Carter, they were just as happy with it being Story. While all the daughters are beautiful, Story is the typical pretty girl. There's more to her than her beauty, but even her sisters describe her as the pretty one. Lydia and Gregory WANT Carter to marry into the Drysdale family, and have always wanted him to. So they are happy about the marriage, although they do not realize that he's marrying her not out of duty, but because he is in LOVE. However....so just to clarify, this is at their rehearsal. Story has done well, and comes from money, Carter has done very well, and spoils his Princess. He also wants to make sure that everything is perfect, and he's had enough.

Carter walks up behind Story putting the final touches on her look in the mirror. Reaching her back he places a new diamond necklace around her, “Carter.”
“What? It’s our wedding day.”
“Tomorrow,” she takes a deep inhale when his fingers drift down the front of her dress. He stops at her belly pushing her back into his chest. Story’s eyes flutter shut when she get the smell of his signature cologne and those sinful lips of his connect to her neck. “We’re getting married tomorrow.”
“And I wanted to get you a gift for today,” his lips move up higher, nipping at her jawline, and she spins to look at him. Her hand cupping his cheek, to bring him closer to her.
“Then I get nothing tomorrow,” giving her a sly grin he starts to walk away, “Carter Rory Baizen, you better quit.”
“I’ve got to give our son a present to,” she tilts her head to the side, but he holds up his hands in surrender. “It’s nothing new. Actually,” pulling out a little bitty tiny signet ring from his pocket, he extends a hand to show her.
“You got him a ring like daddy’s?”
“He actually got me a ring that looks like his,” Story looks at him confused, unsure of when this transpired. “It’s not a big deal. Did a report on him, and he got me a ring,” scrunching up her nose, she gives him a cute little peck on his lips. “Okay, it was a huge deal to me. I can’t wear it anymore, thought that little man would like it.”
“He’ll love it, handsome,” pulling him back into her, they hold onto each other. Breathing in the other’s scent while they bask in their final night of being single. Story finally going to get to change her name to match her family’s. “Let’s go find our boy,” she whispers on his neck, pulling him to go get Otto.
He’s still is amazed at how she seems still so dreamy in so many ways. In ways that he never realized, because she was always his dream. Finding a love like Mr. and Mrs. Drysdale, not even realizing that someone else was wanting the same kind of love, right under his nose. Finding the boy getting his finishing touches to his to his suit by Blade before running to her arms. “You wook so pwetty mommy. Just wike a pwincess,” gasping when he sees the new shiny necklace. “Daddy and I did good, huh?”
“You helped pick it out?” he nods his head, giving her a squishy faced kiss.
“It was actually his idea,” Carter brings the two of them close to his body, holding on to his everything’s when his mother walks in. Lydia almost snarls at the fact that her son has accepted Otto as his own. Happy about the union, had always wanted him to marry preferably Aster, but Story was a nice surprise. Although the thought of them having having a child out of wedlock would have been better than the illegitimate child of another man.
“Son, you look very handsome. Another piece of jewelry I see,” nearly rolling her eyes at the constant gifts that he gives his almost wife. Not even realizing Story wants him to stop. Building their home was more than enough for her, it was their forever home right on the property she grew up on. Just being with Carter was enough for her.
“We are getting married tomorrow,” he doesn’t even look at his mother. Had it not been for Story insisting his parents be there, he wouldn’t have even invited them. Knowing there would be some form of remark, and he’s reaching his breaking point.
“It was fwom me and daddy,” Otto giggles, causing Carter to nip and blow raspberries on his neck playfully. Blade steps a bit closer to the trio when he sees Lydia make another face of disgust.
“Is there a reason...” she stops herself, knowing that she’s about to start a fight. She should be happy that her son is thrilled, but in her world marriage is a contract. It’s not for happiness. “Otto wouldn’t it be better for you to call him Carter?”
“What the hell?” Blade and Carter push Story and Otto back. “You and little man go to mom and dad,” Story doesn’t even give Lydia another glance. Only clings tighter to her son. His hands pulling at her face to look at him asking what GiGi meant. “Is there a problem Lydia?”
“That is not his father.”
“I beg to differ,” Carter stands up a bit straighter. He no longer cares to do the right thing and allowing his mother there. His only wish now is to protect his family. A dying need to say all the things he has withheld tight on his tongue for too long. “That is my son.”
“Whose name is on the birth certificate? What’s his last name going to be now? She comes from good stock, but she was a bit...”
“You speak another word about my future wife, and our relationship is done. Otto Ransom Baizen is my son. I’m the only father he has ever known.”
Lydia scoffs rolling her eyes. “That last name...it’s only by default. Wasn’t even supposed to be White. You shouldn’t be going into a relationship with baggage. He...you two were supposed to have a child. And you so easily forgave her.”
Carter squares up with his mother. Knowing that the normally vile things he’s heard all his life is coming from her. Even if they were from his father’s mouth, the spineless man listened to whatever she said. “Let me make something perfectly clear to you, I failed her when we were younger. I left her and wasn’t returning her calls or text. That decision was made alone, when I, the older one, should have been by her side regardless of what she decided to do.”
“She took away my grandchild’s future.”
“And I was taking away hers,” he gets another eye roll. “Otto is my son. Mine. And he will be treated as such, or our future children will not be in your life. You speak another ill word about her or my son, you’re done. I can start my own company, all those new investors, they’ll follow me. I’m the one making the money now mother, I’d hate to see you lose your lifestyle. This is your last warning. Story and Otto are mine, and you will treat both of them with respect. What I buy for them, is my business. What I do for them is my business. If we choose not to have anymore children, that is my business. Do you understand?”
Lydia only nods. Surprised that she was able to raise a son with such authority, but then again, she never stopped to realize it was Mr. and Mrs. Drysdale that raised him. With the fury that Ransom instilled in him at an early age to protect his family. To love a child that isn’t biologically yours the same as your own. It’s not something that Carter ever hesitated to do. Memories prove that he was always meant to protect Story.
“Now get out of my suite. I’ll see you at the dinner,” spinning to gather his thoughts before he goes and finds his family, he pushes his fingers on the bridge of his nose. Beyond pissed that he had to have this conversation before Story’s big day. A day she has dreamed about since she was a child.
“Dad would be proud of you. I didn’t even have to say anything,” Carter doesn’t respond. He already feels his relationship from his blood relatives slipping away. What little relationship there was. It’s an exhausting thought. A thought that nearly makes him want to crawl into Mr. Drysdale’s lap and pretend that he was his father. “She found a good one,” he turns to look at his future wife’s true protector. The one that always was in her corner. “She did. Carter, I didn’t like you. Took me a long time to forgive you. You hurt her more than you’ll ever know. From an early age you hurt her, but she still believed in the fairy tale of you and her. All those years of wishing on that stupid star paid off.”
“It wasn’t stupid to her. It’s why I started wishing on it too. Not for Prince Charming, but for a love like your parents.”
“You really think she was wishing for Prince Charming?” Carter cocks up an eyebrow looking at the boy he’s always considered a brother. “You need to see the last book Grandpa was working on with her. It was never Prince Charming, Sir Lancelot. Now, let’s go find your son.”
Carter knows that he’ll never have the best relationship with the egg and sperm donors. A part of him is saddened by that, but a bigger part is happy that he had two people that loved him. Two people that were there for him in times of need. Two people that picked him up when his parents didn’t show. Would go to his debate team matches and listen to middle schoolers drone on. People that invited him to every family function, treating him much like their own. It’s the Drysdale’s and Mr. Thrombey that made him the man he is today. A man that is sure he doesn’t deserve Story, but if he’s the person she’s choosing, then he’s there.
Peaking around the door is one of his favorite faces, the second one right behind him. Still giving him that cherub faced smile, while the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on follows behind. The two of them walking over to hold him in the most warm embrace. Story pressing gentle kisses all over his face, knowing that her love melts away the disdain his parents have for him. While Otto grips tightly to one of his legs. “You’re my daddy.”

Hi, you’ve done something similar to this before but I’m so curious to know what it would have been like if Aster and Carter ended up together, married, in love, and absolutely no infidelity (basically, much like how Story and Carter are in the real verse). I feel like even if they didn’t work out in the real verse, they could still give tooth rotten-ing fluff in the what if verse ((:
Here’s the thing...Story and Carter were meant to be together. If they’re not together, they’re not ever fully happy. But for the sake of this ask, let’s say that Carter and Aster are at least in a committed relationship (doesn’t mean that Carter isn’t going to get jealous of Story’s new man). Keep in mind, no Otto, no Ellie, none of the Baizen boys, and none of the Beck children.

What If...? Masterlist
Carter’s eyes blink open looking around his bedroom. Aster’s arm slung over his waist, while she presses her head into his back. This isn’t how he envisioned his life. He had wished for a mad and crazy love like the Drysdale’s. Thinking that in marrying Aster, that’s exactly what he would get.
He didn’t. Life is comfortable. Predictable. On schedule. And boring. A pregnant Aster should see her nesting and excited to be a mom, staying home with their child. But she never slows down. His parents told him, it was odd that she worked, but it would only further their wealth.
The problem is, it furthered the distance in his heart. Aster was beautiful, and in ways, they had happy moments. She was loyal, but it was because she didn’t want to be a failure. Hanging onto something that wasn’t real, and hoping that it would be.
They had moved further away, tending to do their business in the city. Aster worked remotely for Blood Like Wine, and she liked it that way. Staying away from her little sister, who said she could never forgive her. Carter knew why, and he’s the one to blame.
Aster kisses on his bareback, her hand sinking a lower on his stomach. “We overslept a bit. We should really get ready,” he informs her. “We’re scheduled for this evening though.”
Scheduling sex. He rolls his eyes at the ridiculousness of it. He has and has made more than enough money for her to stay at home. They wouldn’t have to schedule sex. Wouldn’t have to become a copy of Lydia and Gregory Baizen. Aster knows it too. Chooses to ignore it, because it works. This life is boring, but it’s safe.
She sits up in the bed, and Carter sees the one thing that makes him happy. His son’s little bump on her belly. It would make him feel better knowing that she would just stay at home with him. She won’t.
“Mom and dad are throwing a party this weekend,” she tells him as he rubs along her stomach.
“Why?”
“The princess is finally engaged,” she rolls her eyes and goes to push his hands off of her. Aster is still as cold as when they were younger. Allowing only a moment to touch her before she needs her space. “That man that rescued James, fell in love at first sight. Didn’t take long until he knocked her up. She’s so stupid. They just found out not long ago, and they think the solution is marriage. If daddy knew, he’d be pissed. Mom said they’re going to tell him when they find out. Imagine that, finding out your precious Story book is pregnant and that’s why she’s getting married ,” Aster gives a sigh, and looks back at her husband. They waited too long themselves. Carter wanted her to get pregnant right away. She had goals she wanted to complete.
Still bitter that she’s the one that has to change. “Are you wanting to go?”
“Yeah, I haven’t seen James in awhile. Might as well,” she rolls her eyes again. He knows what a sore subject Story is for her. Maybe now that she’s engaged, she can quit acting like a child over her husband.
More bitterness creeps up her throat like bile. Story and Carter would have never worked out, and yet she still gets punished for it.
____________________________________
Aster wasn’t expecting the warm welcome she got from her sister. A big hug, while she rests her hand on her stomach, that megawatt smile beaming at her, while Carter is just staring stunned. “I want you to meet, Sy,” she gives them a giggle and stares up at the big brick wall of a man.
Sy extends his hand out for a ridiculously strong handshake. Story’s fingers always lingering on part of his body, “Can’t keep this brat’s hands off me,” he leans over to give her a kiss, his hand drifting to her stomach. “That’s what got us in this predicament. It’s exciting though, huh?” he looks at Carter, and noticing how his and Aster’s body language seems off. “She’s only showing if you see her stomach, but I can’t keep my hands off of her. It’s like I can feel her growing.”
Story looks up at Sy and smiles pulling him down for a kiss, “Her could be a him.”
“Our own little princess, maybe prince,” he picks her up, and slings her over his shoulder. “It’s time to mingle woman,” his thick southern drawl cloying in Carter’s ear, and he’s unsure what this feeling bubbling in his gut it. Reaching another high level when he smacks her ass. “Nice to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you two.”
Aster walks off and goes to talk with her twin and mother, leaving Carter to angrily stare at the pair of them. Thinking to himself that he shouldn’t he hoisting her and throwing her around the way he is. Understanding now why she’s wear the flowy dress.
James clears his throat, and gets completely ignored by his best friend. He follows Carter’s angry scowl to see what his friend is glaring at and releases a long drawn out laugh. “What?” Carter spits out at him.
“When was the last time you saw Story?”
“The birth of Posie.”
“A lot has changed in six years.”
Carter still watches them, watches how he’s always touching her, always smiling at her, and “he’s always picking her up slinging her around.”
“She likes how big he is,” Carter growls at that comment, not meaning for it to come out. “She does. He’s a good man. Saved my life.”
“He can’t give her the life she wants. He’s a captain in the army. Story is used to,” he gestures back at the estate. And James gives him a nod. “Look at him, why is he always touching her.”
“Why do you care?”
“Why did you introduce them?”
“Because he came to a family dinner. One you chose to skip out on. He couldn’t quit staring at her. She had just broke up with a boy that could give her this life,” Carter turns to stare at him. “I can’t remember which came first, but it was either Nate Archibald or Chase Collins. That man, treats her right.”
“He’s a rough neck.”
“How about this,” James looks at his friend, shaking his head at how disappointed he is. “You worry about your pregnant wife, instead of a twenty-one year old, who is used to having relations with that big man. You could have had a chance. You went after Az, until she agreed. That girl loved you, but she moved on. And you’re married to her fucking sister. Quit being so jealous. She’s happy.”
“I’m not jealous.”
“You are. Just like you’re jealous of me and Iris. I didn’t settle. I didn’t marry to look good on paper. Get over it,” James shakes his head going to walk away and go talk to Sy. He is a good man. He’ll treat Story well, even if he can’t give her luxury.
Carter toes the ground looking at the two of them, seeing Story as a grown women, and she’s not his wife. Aster is beautiful, but there’s a draw he feels towards Story.
“Sir Lancelot,” Story giggles looking up at Carter. He can’t help but notice they’re a more suitable in size. “Kinda cool me and Az are pregnant at the same time. We’re gonna have us a house full of little princesses,” she gives him a sweet wave, before placing a hand on her bump. “Elisa.”
Carter looks up at Story confused and she smiles, “Her name. Elisa. That’s what I keep calling her. But Holden for a boy. It’s hard to keep Sy’s hands off me,” she looks up at her former crush. Still very much feeling like Carter will have that special place in her heart.
He pulls up at her hand looking at her ring finger. Bigger than he thought it would be, “It’s grandma Wanetta’s. Sy asked if daddy had any heirlooms, because he knows how much I like tradition.”
“What,” Carter clears his throat. His eyes searching for Aster who doesn’t pay him any mind. “What are you going to do for work?”
“I write children’s books. They’ve done well. But I’m staying at home to be a mom. Sy likes that idea, too,” she gives her fiancé a quick wave who starts walking over to them.
“Thought you were getting something to drink?” he looks between the two of them.
“I found Carter first Captain,” Sy releases a low growl, and Story gives him a smirk. “Just talking, Cap…”
“It’s best you not call me that out in public,” he walks close enough to Story, but isn’t quiet enough for Carter to ignore. “I’d hate for everyone to hear what a whiney little cockslut you are for me. So behave. Or I’ll have you begging for me to just let you cum. Behave princess.”
Carter scoffs and walks away. He doesn’t want to hear it. It’s hard enough he has to look at her. Has to hear that she’s going to be staying at home with her daughter, because she wants to tend to her.
Jealousy. Jealous that she was able to move on, and have that crazy love that he desired.
Even Story struggles to look at him. She knows she loves Sy. Loves the way he always makes things about her. Always wants to put her up on a pedestal. Or at the very least let’s her sit on her throne every night, before he takes control. But he’s not Carter Baizen. No one ever will be. But she’s at least happy.
And Aster is no Story Drysdale, she’s safe and comfortable. And at least Carter is somewhat happy. He’ll remain loyal to his wife. Dote on her when she allows. Will love on his son in ways that his parents never did. But he knows they’re never truly happy, just satisfied. Watching Story randomly look over at him, he knows she’s feeling the same way. But it’s different. She’s getting something out of it. She’s getting the attention she craves. He’ll protect her, but he won’t ever be able to treat her like the princess she is.
Carter will continue his path. Putting aside his wonder about Story. Curious to know if she was right, and knew something he didn’t. She would allow him to touch her more. It’s evident in the way Sy’s hand runs around her, cupping her barely there stomach. The way she gazes up at him, like he hung the moon. Carter can’t help but wonder, what if? What if things were different and he didn’t listen to his parents? Now he realizes all the times him and Story got along.
Looking over the garden he spots Aster speaking with a man and her father, so as his duty as the husband, he walks over there. “Oh Carter, I was wanting you to meet Dad’s newest client. This is Chris Beck,” with a shake of his hand, he sees it her in face too. Going through the motions. “I’ve only got to meet with him virtually, but I feel as if I’ve known him my whole life,” Aster smiles regretfully. Staring at the man she was starting to feel things she hadn’t felt in a long time. Definitely not what she felt with her husband.
The last few months of having to talk with him, she was growing too fond of the man. Having to tell her dad she needed distance from Beck, only for Ransom to have invited him to Story and Sy’s engagement party. Now she’s left to constantly wonder, what if.
