In November 2022 Brandon said she would be an interlude POV. About that interlude, yeah, I was a little disappointed too that we didn't get it in WaT, especially since Sanderson said in Word of Brandon that he would write it, but I guess he ran out of space in such a huge book and had to cut some scenes, so I can't blame him for choosing from those scenes to discard the ones about background character. When I started the book and saw that the parts were split into just ten days, and that Kaladin was going to stay in Shinovar, I immediately said goodbye to the idea of ​​him and Tarah seeing each other again, but I was still hoping to at least get an interlude from her to at least know how and where she is and what her life has been like, I even had the headcanon that she was now a Radiant. I was curious especially since Brandon mentioned a while ago that the Mourn's Vault was a dangerous and unpleasant place, so I thought Tarah could tell us in her POV something interesting about her time there. I even briefly imagined that maybe Tarah could be among the scribes who helped Bridge 4 in Shattered Plains or the ones who went to Azimir with Adolin, but nope!

We got nothing :( Don't be sad though! Because if there's one thing my experience in many of my fandoms with secondary characters that an author leaves out has taught me, it's that those are the most fun to expand in the fandom with headcanons. I've a saying: "if an author doesn't care about a character and never give us enough about them, then I'll do it myself!" So in a way it's even a good thing that Tarah is almost a blank space as a character, because that leads to more headcanons than you can imagine ^^ For example, I want Tarah to be Radiant, and since Sanderson never said she isn't, then if I say she's Radiant, then she's Radiant! And I can choose for her to be of any order I want ( In my mind she is Willshaper because the description of that Order fits her quite well, so confident and flamboyant. I know that almost all the willshaper spren are for the listeners but she can have a rebel spren). And if I want to say that she or some relative of hers is a worldhopper, then that's true! The canon can't tell me otherwise because it hasn't even shown me!

Or, about shipping, if I want to decide that she can have another partner during these ten years of time jump between books 5 and 6, then we can choose whoever I want! For example, something crazy but fun: I could make up a story about Kaladin's two ex-girlfriends: Lyn and Tarah meet and fall in love with each other! (it would be quite a korrasami situation and that's why I love it, it would make for more than one funny scene for a reunion with Kaladin in the future! XD) Or the same if I want to ship Tarah with a background character, or with Kaladin in the past or in an AU despite what the canon says, or Idk with Venli, or Lopen, or Vivenna… you can ship her whoever you want and imagine multiple sceneries!

We can also imagine what happened to Tarah before and write hadcanons or some fanfic about it if we want. I can, for example, imagine that she gathered her own group of rebel soldiers of Sadeas' army, inspired by Kaladin, and she saved them -specially the young ones- and took them to Urithiru. I can pretend that her reunion with Kaladin really happened between OB and RoW behind the scenes and that she wished him happiness and they became friends. I can imagine Tarah really was in Shattered Plains or in Azimir between the scribes helping one of the armys. Or I can imagine that between books 5 and 6 Tarah became a scholar or that she decided to help Bridge 4 as the new quartermaster after the death of the previous one or as a scribe.

In conclusion: possibilities are endless! :D

I started writing a Tarah Kaladin reunion fic because of @sorchasolas and i gave Tarah a fiancee and i actually have grown extremely attached to Rob and do NOT want the him and Tarah to breakup (sorry @sorchasolas). Unfortunately the more i describe him the more he sounds like the hallmark boyfriend that you leave 3/4 of the way through the movie.

he's genuinely a nice young man. he works in shipping and likes sailing for fun. he couldn't attend the parade with Tarah because he had to work and he's trying to get promoted so they can afford to get married and move in together. he's a good cook. he is devastated but also completely understanding of the idea that his fiancee of several years might leave him for her teenage sweetheart. I mean. It's Kaladin Stormblessed.

anyway I want him to honestly get along with Kaladin once he gets over the starstruckedness and the concern that Tarah is going to leave him. I want Rob to teach Kaladin how to sail and they have a really nice time. Rob gets promoted at work because apparently he's now fishing buddies with Kaladin Stormblessed (they don't actually fish, neither of them like hurting worms, they just sail around). The three of them play cards and share a bottle of blue and don't discuss the fate of the world or intense trauma. It's the first actual vacation Kaladin has had since he was six years old. I desperately want Kaladin to buy the two of them a house as a wedding gift.

I also want Shallan and Adolin, having very slowly established a Shakadolin situation over the course of years, with a lot of crying and frank discussions of sexuality and racism and falling asleep in eachothers arms after nightmares, having finally exchanged some form of throuple oaths, to be losing their ABSOLUTE MINDS over spanreed because of this.

Like Adolin is biting a leather belt because he heard that that the two of them went on ANOTHER buddy sailing trip. Shallan is whiteknuckle gripping a bannister at the very top of the tallest tower because Tarah and Kaladin went to the farmers market. They are THE melodramatic bitches.

Beryl phrases it over reed as a 'don't worry about him leaving Urithiru for good' because 'yeah he's for sure not getting back together with his ex they're just good friends now. he seems to get along really well with her fiancee actually. The three of them went to minigolf.'

HOWEVER beryl knows full well about the secret Shakadolin thing because Adolin and Shallan stopped inviting her for occasional threesomes years ago and there's literally only one reason why they would do that. She is a little offended that Shallan has not spilled any details about Stormblessed in bed and is ruthlessly taking revenge by describing how peaceful he looks spending time with Tarah and Rob at little darkeyed diners and oh yeah he's staying in the guestroom of the new house he bought them.

And Tarah meets Kaladin again. This isn't a shipping fic; they were friends before they courted and as friends they're happy to see the other is alright. Meanwhile Tarah's friends react the way mine would if they found out someone in the friend group's high school boyfriend went on to become a celebrity. Its such a fun read!

Kaladin: Honorably Discharged Ex-Marine, was a trauma medic, than surgeon, now works at a hospital. Shallan: Starving artist with mental issues she totally has under control. Works with the local organized crime on the side. Runs into Adolin and Kaladin by chance. Adolin: A businessman with a heart of gold. No really, he’s actually really nice. A lot of his accrediation came from nepotism (His father runs the company) but he’s talented, well liked, and his branch makes bank with high moral. He runs into Shallan by pure chance and is immediately smitten. Renarin: The talented, but frail, savant brother of the Kholin family. He disappears and always comes back with an amazing tale and great idea.

Dalinar: Ex-Military Buisinessman. Fell into it from his brother, and doesn’t like it. Previous wife died in a fire. (No he didn’t cause THIS ONE IT WAS TRAGIC.) Navani: Married Gavilar, divorced him, married his brother. Works as head engineer at the company. Dangerously brilliant. Gavilar: Caught in scandle and sentenced to prison, where he was assassinated. (Much like Epstein, he “killed” himself.) Szeth: Morally good man who is caught up with dangerous people. Serves as a hitman for a time due to Taravangian “saving his life” through a convoluted plot. Taravangian: Head of the local crime gang. Fronts himself as an altruistic, almost saint like figure. Jasnah: Works at a local university and is a terrible professor. Her classes are extremely hard to pass. Registration rates are at an all time low, and she can’t figure out why! Elokar: Makes stained glass in his free time, and is the head graphic designer of his Uncles company. Thinks his dad is a piece of shit. (Loved him until the trial) Bridge 4: Kaladin’s Military buddies. They pop in from time to time. Teft actually leaves the service to keep an eye on him; he was due for it anyways. Rushu: Navani’s very scatterbrained by loveable assistent. Tarah: I include her because 1: I’m begging Sanderson to reintroduce her to Kaladin in book 5 and 2: He needs someone to love him for who he is, and I think she’d be neat. She’s a girl he met at the hospital; she worked for a time in registration, and they hit it off, so to speak. THE SPREN: All the spren are figments. Little dashes of insanity sprinkled throughout their lives. If I was to write this, they’d all suffer from sort of psychosis. Syl is basically Kaladin’s conscience. Pattern is Shallan’s, and Mayalarn is Adolin’s past coming to haunt him.

I always find very cute that during their flashback scene in Oathbringer (ch. 112), the first thing she does to greet him is hug him affectionately from behind. Also, yeah, Kaladin is shirtless there~

I adore to draw scenes in sunset, the lighting effects and warm pallet color are always fun to paint. Besides this scene was a perfect excuse to draw Kaladin's shirtless XD I love a lot this scene, how comfortable looks Kaladin around her, kissing her on the check, holding her hand, both jocking about how some young soldiers get nervious around her, talking about weapons, about how much Tarah's father hates Kal (I'd like to know the reason behind it, haha), and then their farewell was heartbreaking and bitersweet. Despite of we barely see her, just for the way Kaladin remembers her Tarah seems to be a caring, compassionate and confident person, and I'd have liked to know more about her. Besides it was sweet (and surprising) to see -for once- Kaladin sharing intimance with someone in a romantic way. I understand perfectly why there is a lot lack of content of Tarah in the fandom, and why even a lot of people doesn't even remember her lol, she was only mentioned six times, and there is only one flashback about her, but somehow she stayed in my heart since the first time she was mentioned in WoK. Perhaps it was just because Kaladin is my fave character and the fact she was the first person who comforted him after Tien died was a detail that really touched me. /SPOILER/ Brandon Sanderson already said there is going to be (probably) an interlude about her in SA5, so I'm really looking forward to read it, even if Kal and her never get back together, at least to know what happened with her and her father after she left Amaram's army.

"Moash used to work the caravans with me," Mak whispered urgently. "He's strong, a man you want on your side when things get tricky."

I got to thinking about all the fun AUs in this fandom and ended up wanting to do two things: show off the creativity of Stormlight fanficcers, and encourage the authors by letting them know that we care about their work.

Soulmate Archive by RydiaAsuka Rated Teen, 30,000 words. Soulmate AU Injuries show up on the bodies of their soulmates. Adolin's life turns upside down when suddenly he gets slave brands, and his body looks like it's beaten every day.

Op I think you are right and here’s why.

The women who seems to be Tarah is noticed by Gaz and Veil in chapter 44 page 450 of Oathbringer.

Kaladins flashback chapter where we are introduced to Tarah is chapter 112 starting on page 1046 of Oathbringer.

I’m using quotes from both of these instances. Quotes are color coded in how they relate to each other.

Similarity 1 (yellow highlights) Kaladin notes how Tarah prefers Thaylen style dress despite being Althi. Veil makes the same observation while Gaz mistakes her for Thaylen.

2 (lilac highlights) body type. Obviously Kaladin isn’t going to be describing her boobs like Gaz does, but he does describe her a a little plumb. Though obviously being a little chubby and having larger breast are not mutually exclusive it’s not far fetched to assume they are both features of her body.

3 (green highlights) Kaladin notes that Tarah likes to wear bright colors. Veil also points out her bold color choice.

4 (orange highlights) Veil observes that the women seems used to dealing with attention from men. While this isn’t stated in the Kaladin pov I think this is implied by their exchange about measuring new recruits.

So if the women Veil and Gaz spot is actually Tarah this raises *a lot* of questions. At this point in Oathbringer, basically all of the Alethi in Urithiru are people that were already on the shattered planes. She transferred to Mourns Vault specifically so she could avoid her father and subsequently her going to the Shattered Plains. So why was she there at all?

My theories for this are either that her father died/was killed at Mourns Vault and she was again promoted and sent to the plains, or something went wrong and she didn’t get to transfer at all. Maybe she got redirected.

And if she was on the shattered plains working under Sadeas, she might have been there when Kal was running bridges. An unfortunate coincidence. There’s a non zero chance that she heard about him after he got promoted in WOR to being Dalinars guard. I’m so curious about how that might have been from her perspective. Knowing that somehow her ex with death on his tail is still alive.

So you might have noticed I left out the blue highlight. That veil noticed that the women who might be Tarah was looking for someone. Was she looking for Kal? Maybe, also that’s really sad and cute. Was she waiting for a date or friend to show up? I hope so.

Also just. We’ve been wondering who Tarah is since she was mentioned in book one. We’ve been asking Brandon about her since then and after Oathbringer. I swear if we saw her in Oathbringer before we even knew it was her…. And Brandon has been rafoing stuff where already seen…… well played Mr Brando Sando. Well played.

In Oathbringer at a tavern when Gaz is training with Veil they describe a plump Alethi woman dressed in bright Thaylen clothing at the bar- is that Tarah?????
