Tuesday, April 23: Stormage, "Anguish of Mind"

Germany’s run as the primary hub for power metal lasted a long time, fittingly enough since it all started there, but it didn’t last forever, and so Stormage’s third album not only arrived 20 years too late but also when most were looking elsewhere for this kind of thing.  “Anguish of Mind” tried to add a little swagger in the vocals, but the galloping rhythm and melodic guitar leads were as boilerplate as power metal gets.  There was always something to be said for keeping the faith and ensuring that power metal in its most central form remains in some kind of circulation, so Stormage had that going for it if nothing else.

On the topic of Neo’s possessiveness, does she get jealous when Ruby’s affectionate with her friends? Like, she’s hugging Weiss or Blake when they meet up and Neo is just glaring at them.

I think that at first one could totally notice Neo glaring, getting the tip of her tail moving, ears flattened back and all nervous because of her own insecurity EVEN in innocent situations like those, but with time Neo would adapt and learn that no one's getting Ruby away from her, it will be FINE

The people calling for Cinder’s death at the hands of Ruby and Jaune’s revenge:

Forget that the show has been speaking against violent revenge since as early as Volume 4 (Ren recklessly attacking the Nuckelavee almost getting him killed and having to be talked out of it by Nora, everything to do with Adam, Robyn talking Qrow out of killing Ironwood, and Neo getting her revenge on Ruby and going empty as a result)

Forget what happened last time Jaune tried to get revenge on Cinder

Forget that no character death up to this point has been portrayed as a good thing, even the villains’ deaths (Torchwick, Khan, Fennec, Vernal, Lionheart, Tock, Adam, Clover, the Hound, Jacques, Watts, Ironwood, and the Curious Cat)

Fail to realize that Salem would definitely be counting on the heroes having too big of vengeful hate boners to show any mercy to the girl who’s directly responsible for some of their most traumatic experiences that the heroes can prove they don’t have

Fail to realize that killing Cinder before she gets the chance to turn things around would prove her cynical view of the world correct

Fail to realize that the writers aren’t just going to show us a girl who’s been abused and humiliated her whole childhood, told by her mentor that she’ll always run, taken advantage of by people in higher positions of power than her, and believed that being evil is all she’ll ever be good at while nobody cared enough about her to tell her otherwise, redirect her away from villainy (so Emerald doesn’t count as a source of kindness towards Cinder due to her enabling Cinder’s villainy), or show her basic decency, and then just go, “Nah, she’s too far gone.” We aren’t watching Miraculous, guys.

I might have to disappoint you on this one, friend. I don’t see a scenario where Cinder is redeemed. I’m not saying Jaune or Ruby kill her but I’m also just not seeing a world where she gets out of this alive.

Cinder is a character, like Adam, that has never shown any remorse for her actions. She wants power. She’ll kill entire kingdoms to get it. While Em at least showed hesitancy or traces of uncertainty, Cinder does not care for anyone but herself.

And I want to be clear, I don’t hate Cinder. I know a lot of people give her crap but I actually don’t have an issue with her as a character. She’s this vicious little cockroach and I’m curious how her trying to play Salem will go.

Maybe they’ll surprise me, but I don’t see Cinder making it out of this series alive. Tragic backstory does not negate your present actions and the consequences of that.

Thinking about CC wanting to keep Jaune’s hair relatively short because that’s how he looked when they met, and CC hates that Jaune is able to change

Jaune’s whole arc (heh) in the Ever After is about how it’s okay for things to change and accepting that not everything can stay the same. So having him look like he’s trying to look younger (even though it’s not HIS idea) just adds to that whole thing
