The Snake around Shiva's neck. Shiva is often shown with a snake curled  three times around His neck and looking towards His right side. The  three coils of the snake symbolize the past, present and future - time  in cycles. The snake looking in the right direction of Lord Shiva  signifies that the Lord's perpetual laws of reason and justice preserve  natural order in the universe. The snake is believed to be the Vasuki  Naga, a deadly cobra. The Lord wearing the deadly snake like an ornament  signifies that He is independent of time and death. It also suggests  the dormant energy, called Kundalini Shakti, that resides within him. The snake stands for all the evil and demonical nature in the world. By wearing the snake around his neck, Lord Siva gives us the assurance that no evil can touch us or destroy us once we fully surrender. It stands for all passions and desires. By wearing the snakes around his neck, Lord Siva has overcome all desires and is in full control of Prakriti, or maya and its various machinations. A snake is also very sensitive to certain energies. Shiva has the snake around his throat. It is not just symbolic. There is a whole lot of science behind it. There are 114 chakras in the energy body. Vishuddhi chakra(5th Chakra) is located in the pit of your throat. This particular chakra is very strongly associated with the snake. The vishuddhi is about stopping poison, and a snake carries poison. All these things are connected. The word vishuddhi literally means “filter.” If your vishuddhi becomes powerful, you have the ability to filter everything that enters you. Shiva’s center is supposed to be vishuddhi, and he is also known as Vishakantha or Neelakantha because he filters all the poison. He doesn’t allow it to enter his system. Poisons can enter you in so many ways: a wrong thought, a negative emotion, idea, energy or a impulse can poison your life. If your vishuddhi is active, it filters everything. It saves you from all these influences. Goddess Sita ~ goddess of womanly virtues. Regarded as the daughter of ‘Bhudevi’ or Mother Earth since she arose from the earth and was found in a plough field. The king of Mithila, Janaka was overjoyed to find a baby in his field and brought her up with great love and care. Goddess Sita is worshipped for her ideal womanly virtues and she stands as a model of wifely attributes. Though she was subjected to intense suffering in her life, she always bore it with a cheerful countenance and this is what her followers are supposed to inculcate from her. JustAt a swayamwara, conducted to help her choose her husband, Lord Rama proved his skill and courage and was wedded to her. Goddess Sita represents a perfect example of loyalty, who left the comforts of a palace life to accompany her husband, Lord Rama in the forest when he was banished there. During this period of exile, this graceful deity was also abducted by the demon king, Ravana and imprisoned within his palace walls at Lanka. Even at such a trying time she displayed a lot of patience, courage and fortitude. Though Ravana made advances at her, during her year long term of imprisonment, Sita maintained her honour and chastity. Finally, when she was rescued by Lord Rama, Goddess Sita proved her purity to him by undergoing a test of fire. Versions differ on this, with some accounts stating that she jumped into the fire and others stating that she chose to undergo this test to purify herself. The Goddess was forced into exile another time when her chastity was questioned by the people of Ayodhya. At this point of time she was pregnant. Thankfully, the sage Valmiki gave her shelter and she soon delivered twin boys, Luv and Kush. Eventually the sons were reunited with their father. Finally, when Goddess Sita was free of her responsibilities, she sought refuge in the arms of Mother Earth to relieve herself from the cycle of pain and suffering. As a daughter, wife and a mother, Goddess Sita fulfilled all her roles with great dedication and sincerity. Showing strength without compromise.  #divinefeminine #shakti #storiesofcreation #yoga #yogalove #yogaeverydamnday #revolutionyoga #yogajourney #fitspo #nyyoga #liyoga (at REVOLUTION YOGA)

Nirrti is the goddess of destruction and death. She dwells in desolate places, watching for people who are hungry or in mourning. She wears dark clothes and has messy hair. Offerings to Nirrti are often black, such as black grain and stones, or diseased and malformed animals, and were usually intended to keep her away from rituals rather than to invite her to join in. As time went on, Nirrti was given male attributes as well as female. Nirrti’s name means “destruction.” Mantra for Long Healthy Life Om Hruang Jung Sah Bhurbhuvah Swah Trayambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pustiwardham | Urwarukmivbandhanaan Mrityormuksheey mamritat Bhurbhuvah Swaraung Jung Sah Hraung Om  #divinefeminine #shakti #storiesofcreation #yoga #yogalove #yogaeverydamnday #revolutionyoga #yogajourney #fitspo #nyyoga #liyoga #newyorkyoga #longislandyoga #yogafam #yogapractice #yogaasana #yogaeverywhere #yogaeveryday #yogainspiration #yogachallenge #yogapose #yogagram #yogadaily #yogalife #fitness #health #holisticliving (at REVOLUTION YOGA)

Jyestha is associated with inauspicious places and sinners. She is also associated with sloth, poverty, sorrow, ugliness and the crow. She is sometimes identified with Alakshmi, another goddess of misfortune. When the churning of the ocean commences, the poison first appears from the ocean. It is swallowed by the god Shiva and then Jyestha appears from the ocean, wearing red garments. When she asks the gods what she is supposed to do, she is ordered to dwell in inauspicious places. Vishnu divides the world into the good and the bad. He creates Lakshmi (Sri) and Jyestha, both born from the churning of the cosmic ocean. While Lakshmi marries Vishnu, Jyestha is married to the sage Dussaha. The sage soon discovers that his ugly wife can not bear the sound or sight of any auspicious things and complains to Vishnu or the sage Markendeya (in some versions). Vishnu/Markendeya recommends Dussaha to take Jyestha only to inauspicious places. Jyestha is described to stay away from spiritual  people. She is described to bring sorrow and poverty. She is said dwell in houses with quarrel, where liars use harsh language, where evil and sinful men live, where there is long hair, skulls, bones, ashes or charcoal. Vishnu decreed that Jyestha would be sustained by offerings of women. Chhaya - goddess of shadow Chhaya or Chaya means shadow or shade. She is the shadow-image or reflection of Saranyu (Sanjna), the first wife of Surya. Chhaya was born from the shadow of Sanjna and replaced Sanjna in her house, after Sanjna could no longer take the energy and glare of Surya. She leaves behind Chhaya and goes back to her father’s home. Surya never realies that Chhaya was not his wife, she gives birth to his first son Sani, Her father questions Sanjna for the truth and sends her back to her husband.  Sanjana returns to Surya’s house but is livid with Chhaya for having violated the scope of her orders. Sanjana destroys Chhaya’s tangible body and reduces her to a mere illusion in Surya’s light and glare. Surya once again does not notice the exchange of wives. Sanjana gives birth to 2 children from Surya – son Yama and daughter Yamuna. As the children grow older, Sanjana’s animosity towards Shani grows stronger and she does everything in her power to distance him from Surya. Devoid of motherly love and fatherly attention, Shani is distraught, depressed, lazy and utterly directionless. The 3 children come of age, and time comes to bestow them with responsibilities. Surya announces the same to his children; hearing this, Sanjana quickly poisons Surya’s mind against the capabilities of Shani and requests him to divide his responsibilities between Yama and Yamuna. Surya gives in and leaves Shani with nothing. Shani full of pain and anger kicks Sanjana in her womb out of lack of understand to why she treated him differently. Sanjana responds by cursing Shani to lose the limb he kicked her with. Surya asks Sanjan for the truth. She tells Surya the whole story and how she created Chhaya and how Shani was birthed through Chhaya before her return. Surya makes amends and bestows responsibilities on Shani as well as restores his limb, he leaves a slight limp to honor Sanjan’s curse. Mantra to remove Doubt. Divine Mother Gayatri represents the combined essence of wisdom from three Goddesses: Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. This united wisdom manifested as Gaya, which means the Song of Wisdom, and Tri, which means the Three. Gayatri is a Goddess who represents a divine attitude: the incessant and relentless pursuit of wisdom. She is known as the female expression of the light of the Sun, the Light of Wisdom. She is revealed in the form of a mantra, called the Gayatri Mantra. Marrimmann - goddess of rain One story about the origin of Maariamman is that she was the wife of Thiruvalluvar, the Tamil poet, who was an outcast.[citation needed] She caught smallpox and begged from house to house for food, fanning herself with leaves of the neem or margosa tree to keep the flies off her sores. She recovered and people worshipped her as the goddess of smallpox. To keep smallpox away, neem leaves are hung above the main entryways of South Indian homes Another story involves the beautiful and virtuous Nagavali, wife of Piruhu[citation needed] , one of the nine Rishis. One day the Rishi was away and the Trimurti came to see if her famed beauty and virtue was true. Nagavali did not know them and, resenting their intrusion, turned them into little children. The gods were offended and cursed her, so her beauty faded and her face became marked like smallpox. The Rishi returned, found her disfigured, and drove her away, declaring she would be born a demon in the next world and cause the spread of a disease which would make people like her. She was called Mari, meaning 'changed. Mantra for Protection. Saraswati - the goddess of knowledge, wealth and wisdom. In the beginning there was chaos. Everything existed in a formless, fluid state. "How do I bring order to this disorder?" wondered Brahma, the creator. "With Knowledge", said Devi. Heralded by a peacock, sacred books in one hand and a veena in the other dressed in white Devi emerged from Brahma's mouth riding a swan as the goddess Saraswati. "Knowledge helps man find possibilities where once he saw problems." Said the goddess. Under her tutelage Brahma acquired the ability to sense, think, comprehend and communicate. He began looking upon chaos with eyes of wisdom. Brahma discovered the melody of mantras in the cacophony of chaos. In his joy he named Saraswati, Vagdevi, goddess of speech and sound. The sound of mantras filled the universe with vital energy, or prana. Things began to take shape and the cosmos acquired a structure: the sky dotted with stars rose to form the heavens; the sea sank into the abyss below, the earth stood in between. Gods became lords, demons ruled the nether regions, humans walked on earth. Seasons changed and life bloomed. Brahma became the creator of the world with Saraswati as his wisdom.Saraswati was the first being to come into Brahma's world. Brahma began to look upon her with eyes of desire. She turned away saying, "All I offer must be used to elevate the spirit, not indulge the senses." Brahma could not control himself. He gave himself four heads facing every direction so that he could always be able to feast his eyes. She moved away by taking form of different animals. Brahma continued to chase after her, do she cursed him. Brahma gave himself a 5th head, he disrupted the cosmos and rose Shiva. Who in a fit of rage ripped his 5th head, this subbed Brahma & he was reconciled with Saraswati. Mantra for  wisdom of wealth and knowledge. Kali The name Kali  means "time", and that also means "black". Kali  is a manifestation of the Divine Mother, which represents the female principle. Frequently, those not comprehending her many roles in life call Kali the goddess of destruction. She destroys only to recreate, and what she destroys is sin, ignorance and decay. She is equated with the eternal night, is the transcendent power of time, and is the consort of the god Shiva. It is believed that its Shiva who destroys the world, and Kali is the power or energy with which Shiva acts. Therefore, Kali is Shiva's shakti, without which Shiva could not act. Kali receives her name because she devours kala (Time) and then resumes her own dark formlessness. This transformative effect can be metaphorically illustrated in the West as a black hole in space. In the Vedas the name is associated with fire god Agni, the god of fire, who had seven flickering tongues of flame, of which Kali was the black, horrible tongue. Kali was first manifested when the Goddess Parvati knitted her brows in fury when the demon, Daruka, threatened the Gods. It was then that the three-eyed Kali first sprang forth from Parvati, fully armed, and immediately putting an end to Daruka. It is for this reason that Kali is considered an aspect of Parvati. Mantra to burn away negativity. Durga - the goddess of power and strength, is perhaps the most important goddess of the Hindus. She is a multi-dimensional Goddess, with many names, many personas, and many facets. As Mahishasuramardini or Shakti, she is the destroyer of evil - with her ten mighty arms carrying lethal weapons she triumphantly slays the demon Mahishasura. As Sati, beloved daughter of King Daksha and Queen Menaka she gives up a kingdom and earns her father's wrath. As Kali, she turns black as the night and omnipotent, terrible in rage and fury, with just a string of skulls as her garland and her only garb. As Parvati, she is serene, the pretty consort of Lord Shiva by his side in the snowy peaks of the Kailash mountain. She is Bhawani, symbol of life. She is Sati, the object of death. She is Basanti, the heralder of springtime. She is also Amba, Jagadhatri, Tara, Ambika, Annapurna. Durga, through all her forms, encompasses the essence of salvation and sacrifice. She is the mother of bounty and wealth, as also of beauty and knowledge, for her daughters are Lakshmi and Saraswati (Hindu goddesses of wealth and knowledge, respectively). She is the embodiement of purity, knowledge, truth and self-realization. The highest form of truth present in any being or Jiva is known as "Aatman" or supreme consciousness. This supreme consciousness or the absolute soul is infinite, birthless, deathless, beyond time and space, and beyond the law of causation. Goddess Durga is the inherent dynamic energy through which this supreme consciousness manifests itself. The Sanskrit word Durga means a fort, or a place that is protected and thus difficult to reach. Durga, also called Divine Mother, protects mankind from evil and misery by destroying evil forces such as selfishness, jealousy, prejudice, hatred, anger, and ego. Radhe, is a Hindu goddess ... the Krishna-Radha love story is a metaphor for divine-human relationship. Among all the gopis in Vrindavan, Radha was Krishna's favourite. She was the daughter of a cowherd Vrishabhanu and Kamalavati of Barsana. Radhe loved Krishna deeply and was very devoted to him. Often found singing and dancing together, their deep affection for each other made the other gopis jealous. When Krishna and his friends went to Barsana to smear colour on Radhe, her friends beat them up with lathis or sticks and chased the boys away. This playful tradition is celebrated as Laathimar Holi in Barasana even today. Lord Krishna, who was the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu on Earth, derived his strength from Radha. There were so many gopis who were ready to fall on Lord Krishna’s feet, given the choice. But, Lord Krishna lost his heart to Radhe, the form of Goddess Shakti, who constantly was at his side during his entire stay at Vrindavan. When Lord Krishna had to leave Vrindavan, he knew he had to leave everything from his childhood behind including his love, Radhe. It did not matter to Radhe that Krishna would not be able to marry her or be present with her in physical form. She knew they were together always on a spiritual level. Their love was above this physical world and beyond the realms of the universe. Krishna had told Radhe that her name would always be taken before his and that is why which is why it is said Radakrishna and never Krishnaradha. Radha's birth is celebrated on Radha Ashtami, fifteen days after the birthday of Krishna.  #divinefeminine #shakti #storiesofcreation #yoga #yogalove #yogaeverydamnday #revolutionyoga #yogajourney #fitspo #nyyoga #liyoga #newyorkyoga #longislandyoga #yogafam #yogapractice #yogaasana #yogaeverywhere #yogaeveryday #yogainspiration #yogachallenge #yogapose #yogagram #yogadaily #yogalife #fitness #health #holisticliving (at REVOLUTION YOGA)
