Charade Maniacs Tokuten Translation - Free spirits' lunch conditions [自由人のお昼事情]
Tumblr media
Before you read: This is my first time doing translations like this, so, if you see any mistake/typo/incorrect part, please tell me and I’ll change it as soon as possible! I had a hard time figuring out some lines, so do take everything with a grain of salt. I really fell in love with Charade Maniacs, so I think it would be awesome to gather a little community of translators. The game doesn’t have that many tokuten, we could be done in a heartbeat. Also, English isn’t my first language either and that means some lines may sound unnatural. Rant over, this CD features Gyoubu, Futami, and Haiji. It’s pretty lighthearted and that means post-game therapy ^^
FUTAMI: Oh! You’re here. I would like to thank you for coming, but…
GYOUBU: This CD is a Charade Maniacs store tokuten, that means there could be spoilers from the game’s main story, but… you’ve already played it, right?
HAIJI: We want the people that still haven’t played the main story to come here afterwards.
FUTAMI: If it doesn’t bother you, you’re good to go. This warning is just in case.
HAIJI: I bet you’ll get hungry too, prepare some snacks and come, okay?
GYOUBU: I heard that we will be in the kitchen for a while…
FUTAMI: You two, weren’t we in the middle of a spoiler warning? Well, whatever. If you don’t have a problem, please wait a second-
FUTAMI: Charade Maniacs store tokuten drama CD – Lunch conditions for free spirits. Let’s begin.
(Music starts)
GYOUBU: Gaaagh, I’m so hungry!! Kei-chan, give me some food!
FUTAMI: Hey, Gyoubu. If you are searching for Ebana, he’s not here.
GYOUBU: Oh? Ryoichi? Why isn’t he here?
FUTAMI: You know he doesn’t live in the kitchen, right? Lunch was a long time ago.
GYOUBU: I played games the whole night, so I was sleeping in my room until just now. If I don’t eat something quick, I will starve to death.
FUTAMI: You were up all night again? …hey, why are you rummaging around?
GYOUBU: Agh… I was thinking there could still be some leftovers in the fridge, but…
FUTAMI: Since you didn’t wait for permission to start hunting for food, Ebana will get mad when he comes back, you know that, right?
GYOUBU: That’s alright, alright! I won’t be afraid even if he gets angry at me. I mean, I find it funny how he’s always acting so cold (1), doesn’t that make you want to tease him more?
FUTAMI: Hahaha…
GYOUBU: So… There was nothing left. What.
FUTAMI: Yeah, we had gratin today. Someone must have eaten what was left.
GYOUBU: Gratin?! Uwaaaagh, I bet Kei-chan’s gratin is delicious.
FUTAMI: Actually, it was pretty great. You were the only one that wasn’t here for it.
GYOUBU: Eeeh… Then I wonder why you didn’t leave me my plate…
HAIJI: Oh! …just you two?
FUTAMI: Haiji! As you can see, Gyoubu and I are the only ones here.
GYOUBU: Yes, yes. Also, there is a possibility I starve and die right here and now.
HAIJI: Is that so…? I was hungry too, is there nothing left?
GYOUBU: Hmm, I’ve been inspecting the fridge for a while, but there doesn’t seem to be anything edible there...
HAIJI: Ok… Then, should we do it ourselves?
GYOUBU: It’s a pain, but I guess we don’t have any other choice, huh. Aww, if only Kei-chan were here, I would have come out of bed and eaten right away.
HAIJI: So, what should we do?
GYOUBU: Me, me! I think I crave sakuramochi!
FUTAMI: Sakuramochi? Isn’t that too specific?
GYOUBU: I like it, weren’t the ones we had the other day great? So that’s why I want them again, I guess.
HAIJI: Mhmm, those were really good.
FUTAMI: I understand, but isn’t that a little bit too difficult for amateurs like us?
HAIJI: Does anyone know the recipe?
FUTAMI: Obviously, I don’t.
GYOUBU: Me neither!
HAIJI: I don’t either.
FUTAMI: I’m sorry, but let’s not go with sakuramochi. Even if we managed to make them, I doubt we would get the same flavor.
GYOUBU: Eeeeeeeeeeeh…
FUTAMI: You are about to say that you will eat them even if we failed? You can try to pull that one if you want to, but...
GYOUBU: Okay, let’s do something else!
FUTAMI: Ahahaha…
GYOUBU: Haiji, what do you want to eat?
HAIJI: I…, ice cream would be good.
GYOUBU: Just as I thought, I knew you would say that. Still, if we are talking about ice cream, the freezer if full of them, why bother making it ourselves? It’s not necessary.
HAIJI: I get it…, then how about cream puffs or apple pies?
GYOUBU: Those are the ones she's made before...
HAIJI: Yes! They taste good!
GYOUBU: From her repertoire, I’d want to have strawberry daifukus…
FUTAMI: You're only bringing up difficult dishes.
GYOUBU: And I wonder, wouldn’t Ryoichi Mr. Adult be able to help out...? (2)
FUTAMI: Hey, hey, don’t be ridiculous…! Anyways, why only desserts? Since we are talking about lunch, we should do something more normal.
HAIJI: Normal?
FUTAMI: Yes, like oyakodon or soborodon. Usually, I’m able to cook those.
GYOUBU: Meeeh? Aren’t those TOO normal?
FUTAMI: Too normal? What do you even want for lunch?!
GYOUBU: Since we are the ones cooking, I want something fun. That means the process will be entertaining too, right?
FUTAMI: You say ‘something fun’, but…!
GYOUBU: What do you think about those, the crepes that Kei-chan did the other day!
FUTAMI: I guess we are returning to deserts.
GYOUBU: Those guys… You could fill the crepes with anything you liked, just like a makizushi party, wasn’t it good? (3)
FUTAMI: Okay, that was quite fun.
GYOUBU: To think that I still haven’t forgotten about the one filled with matcha cream and red bean paste that I had!
HAIJI: I filled mine with lots of cream, chocolate and ice cream! It was so fun, I’d like to try it again.
FUTAMI: But that’s such a huge dish, Ebana will get mad for sure if he sees we’ve used that many ingredients without permission.
GYOUBU: Heeey, come on, let’s go with crepes! Haiji, you want to do so too, right?
HAIJI: Actually, I’m okay with it just being edible. I’m starving…
GYOUBU: A treason in broad daylight?!
FUTAMI: Hey, Gyoubu, we’re making it together, right? Today you’ll have to settle yourself with oyakodon.
GYOUBU: If there is no choice… I’ll accept your food today,
Ryoichi.
FUTAMI: Haha, thanks… Okay, I’ll have it done in a minute.
HAIJI: Hey, what goes into oyakodon?
FUTAMI: Eggs, chicken, and onions… There are still rice leftovers in the cooker, so I can season it afterwards.
HAIJI: Ooooh…
FUTAMI: I’ll prepare the pan and utensils. Haiji, would you mind bringing the ingredients I’ve just said?
HAIJI: Yes! Understood.
(Moving cookware SFX)
HAIJI: Huff… I put there all those things you mentioned. Is this okay?
FUTAMI: It’s true. You’re great, aren’t you? Compared with Gyoubu…, what are you even doing in that corner?
GYOUBU: It’s a game!
FUTAMI: How can you say it with such confidence.
GYOUBU: I’m not that good at cooking, so I thought I’d just play while you were at it. My role here would be eating.
FUTAMI: You were the one that requested this, how about you help a little bit? Even if you are bad at it, it’d be better if you could at least do something.
GYOUBU: Oh, that’s not a problem. One day, I will get a cute wife from whom I will ask for all of my meals.
FUTAMI: I think that wife would be happier with a man that knew how to cook.
GYOUBU: Aww, so that’s how it is… By the way, what are you making Haiji do?
FUTAMI: Ummm, could you peel the onions? Only the brown part.
HAIJI: Got it!
FUTAMI: Now, Gyoubu, you too. You can do as far as cracking and scrambling the eggs, right?
GYOUBU: Well, I guess I’m able to do that…
(More cooking SFX)
GYOUBU: Ryoichi, you are surprisingly good at this, aren’t you?
FUTAMI: Is that so? Since I live alone, I always cook for myself.
GYOUBU: Living alone, huh… That much freedom sure would be good.
FUTAMI: I might be free, yes, but, in exchange, there is a lot of stuff to do! Laundry, cleaning…, there is no other option but to do it yourself.
HAIJI: You do everything alone? That’s amazing…
FUTAMI: That’s just how it is.
(Frying SFX)
GYOUBU: Oh! That smells goooood…
FUTAMI: Riiight? Wait, Gyoubu, what are you putting in there?
GYOUBU: What? Tsubuan?
FUTAMI: You said it like it isn’t a big deal, why tsubuan?
GYOUBU: I guess I’m really in the mood for traditional sweets today. The crepe talk a while ago didn’t help either.
FUTAMI: Now that you say that…, strawberry daifuku and sakuramochi, those were both traditional Japanese sweets!!! That was your plan all along!
HAIJI: I like red bean paste too, if we use it, it could taste very good maybe…
FUTAMI: It doesn’t matter how many times you say it, I’m not putting that in the oyakodon.
GYOUBU: Ryoichi, look, life is a challenge.
FUTAMI: I get it, I’ll do something like that for dessert, but, please, let me cook the oyakodon normally!
GYOUBU: Oh, really…?
FUTAMI: Yes, it won’t be as good as Ebana’s would be though.
(Cooking SFX)
FUTAMI: Now all that’s left is serving the rice, then place some chopped green onions and… Alright! It’s done.
GYOUBU: You actually did it…
HAIJI: Looks tasty…!
FUTAMI: Come on, you two, eat it before it gets cold.
HAIJI: Yes…
GYOUBU: Okaaaaaaay!
HAIJI: Mhmmh, this is really delicious.
GYOUBU: Mhmhm! Even better than the ones you buy frozen. You left me wanting seconds. Ryoichi, aren’t you able to be a great bride?
FUTAMI: What am I supposed to do with that skill? Well…, as requested, I made you red bean soup with mochi, so make sure you finish it too.
GYOUBU: Did you really…?
FUTAMI: That’s because you wouldn’t stop asking for red bean paste!
HAIJI: Hey, about the discussion you were having… Can you become a bride even if you are a man?
FUTAMI: That is indeed impossible. I would be a groom, but still…
HAIJI: Oh…, okay.
GYOUBU: Nevertheless, we are trapped. I sure hope we don't have to spend the rest of our lives here...
FUTAMI: I wonder… When we gather enough points, we might be able to escape. But we still don’t know how much time it will take.
GYOUBU: Well, if it gets to that, I might ask her to marry me.
FUTAMI: Huh?!
HAIJI: Then I want her to marry me too.
GYOUBU: Obviously, sharing her is out of the picture so we have to decide who’s going to marry her, right?
HAIJI: I assume we can’t decide it with rock-paper-scissors…?
GYOUBU: Then we would have the answer too soon…! I think there should be better ways to settle this.
HAIJI: Oh…
FUTAMI: Hey, hey, don’t be so reckless. You must take her feelings into consideration too!
GYOUBU: Either way, I think the fastest we choose, the better. Taking into consideration our circumstances, that’s it.
FUTAMI: You should be worrying about her answer!
GYOUBU: Wait, then you don’t want her to be your wife?
FUTAMI: That’s not what I meant. I just feel you need to become closer to her before jumping into those questions.
GYOUBU: Isn’t that too tedious?
HAIJI: I think we already are close enough though…
FUTAMI: Is this really how the youth thinks nowadays? Well, you are free to think that you want to marry her, but…, for now, just don’t mention it in front of Banjo.
GYOUBU: If this conversation reached Tomo's ears we would really be in trouble, right…
HAIJI: Does that mean we can talk to her about it? Then, I’m going…
GYOUBU: Talk to her about what?
HAIJI: That I would like her as my wife, yes…
FUTAMI: Hey!!!!
GYOUBU: Doesn’t that sound entertaining?! Can I go watch you?
HAIJI: Yeah, no biggie…
FUTAMI: Gyoubu, wait! You’ve just called it ‘entertaining’, didn’t you?!
GYOUBU: What are you talking about? I genuinely just want to watch over the ripening of Haiji’s love…!
FUTAMI: You just want to have fun after all.
GYOUBU: Aaaaaagh!
HAIJI: Then, I’ll be going now….
GYOUBU: Wait, wait, I’m coming too!
FUTAMI: Hey! You two! Wait a-! Aaaaagh… There is nothing one can do with them… I mean, I made it because they said they wanted to eat it…, what do I do with the red bean soup?!
Translator Notes: (1) He literally calls him tsuntsun (2) He says ‘Ryoichi the adult’, but I felt Ryoichi Mr Adult helped convey his teasing tone 😊 (3) A ‘makizushi party’ is an event where a host teaches the guests how to roll and fill their own sushi rolls (if they don’t know) and everyone comes up with their own versions. I only translated the honorifics when Gyoubu used -chan.
Personal comment: This was a very fun one to do, I especially loved Futami’s dynamics with those two. We didn’t see him interacting that much with Haiji in-game, so I was quite surprised when I heard how softly he spoke to him compared with when he addressed Gyoubu. Again, if you see any errors, don't hesitate to reach out!!! alsothefoodnameswereanightmareohmygod

DIABOLIK LOVERS LUNATIC PARADE Sofmap Tokuten Drama CD ”This Afternoon at 3 PM, a Certain Parade Commences ~The Gorgeous Waiter~”
Tumblr media
Original title: 午後3時、とあるパレードの一幕~華麗なるウェイター~
Source: Diabolik Lovers LUNATIC PARADE Sofmap Tokuten Drama CD
Audio: Here
Seiyuu: Kaji Yuki & Kishio Daisuke
Translator’s note: It is no secret that Kanato - aka the purple gremlin - is not my favorite character but I absolutely love him in combination with Azusa because it makes for such good, chaotic fun. This CD is no different and might be my favorite of the Lunatic Parade Tokuten series. Azusa and his dry statements combined with Kanato trying his best not to absolutely lose his mind as a result makes for some A+ comedy. I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to be a customer at the cake store on that specific day, haha.

Azusa: Sorry…for the wait…Here’s your royal milk tea…and the limited-time-only mille-feuille.
*Thud*
Azusa: …
*Cling*
Azusa: Well then…Please take your time.
Azusa walks away again.
Kanato: Haahー... Why do I have to work as a waiter? Just when I thought I could enjoy my time at the Parade…It should be me on that seat enjoying a mille-feuille instead!
Azusa: Kanato-san…Let’s try our best together?
Kanato: Hah? And why exactly? I don’t see why I would do that.
Azusa: Well…We have to work here to compensate…for the shop’s showcase table…which you destroyed in a fit of rage…
Kanato: No, no, you’re completely twisting reality there. None of this would have happened if you didn’t feel the need to try and sprinkle shichimi-spice on my cake. In other words, I’m not at fault here! ーー Azusa, you’re to blame.
Azusa: Eh? Oh…
Kanato: With that being said, I’m heading home now. It would be pure torture to have to stay here and be surrounded by different kinds of cake, yet not being able to eat any of them myself.
Azusa stops him from leaving.
*Rustle*
Kanato: …!?
Azusa: You can’t…Come on…Let’s take this job seriously…Kanato-san…
Kanato: Don’t tug onto my sleeve! You’ll wrinkle the fabric!
*Rustle rustle*
Azusa: But if I don’t do this…You’ll make a run for it, won’t you…? So I refuse…to let go…Besides…Eve told me…If you cause trouble for others…You have to properly reflect on your actions…
Kanato: Eve…? Ahー You’re talking about her. I mean, that definitely sounds like the kind of hypocritic nonsense she’d preach. Still, that’s none of my conceーー
*Rustle*
Azusa: …
Kanato: …!? E-Excuse me!? Are you trying to break my arm!?
Azusa: I mean…You were saying some awfully mean things about Eve…I believe we should take her advice to heart, Kanato-san…
*Rustle rustle*
Kanato: …F-Fine! I’ll work, okay!?
*Rustle*
Azusa: I’m glad to hear that…Well then…I’ll teach you the ropes, okay? First up…
*Rustle*
Azusa: Here you go. You have to wear…your uniform.
*Rustle*
Kanato: What is the meaning behind this lame apron? Are you making fun of me…?
Azusa: Eh? But the bear print on it is really cute…
Kanato: That’s exactly what makes it lame…!!
Azusa forces him to wear the apron.
*Rustle rustle*
Kanato: …C-Cut it out! My arm’s not supposed to bend that way…!
*Rustle rustle*
Azusa: Huh…? How do you make a butterfly knot again…? Let me think…
*Rustle rustle*
Azusa: Like this…?
Kanato: No! It’s like this, see!? I’ll do it myself, okay!?
*Rustle rustle*
Kanato: I’ll fix yours as well while I’m at it. Come on, turn around.
Azusa: Eh? But…
Kanato: The loops of your bow are pointing upwards because you tied it the wrong way. It had been bothering me this whole time. So no buts and just let me fix it.
*Rustle rustle*
Azusa: Oh…Thank you…You’re pretty impressive, Kanato-san…
Kanato: …!! …Ahー God…Why am I looking out for this guy…?
Azusa: Come on, Kanato-san…Smile…
Kanato: Haah!? What exactly about this situation would make me smile!?
Azusa: But…If you make a scary face like that…You’ll frighten the customers…
Kanato: So what!? They’re only in my way anyway! They should just all head home right here, right now! Fufu…Perhaps I shouldn’t stop at the showcase table this time, but destroy the whole store instead? Then they won’t be able to force me to work in return. Besides, Father could easily compensate for the store if I were to ask him.
Azusa: I wonder…? Do you really think…he’d forgive us that easily…? Besides…You have Reiji-san to worry about as well…
Kanato: …
Azusa: Don’t worry… The Manager said that he’ll forgive us…as long as we make it through one day without any issues…There aren’t too many customers in the store right now either…So let’s practice? I’ve been working for about one hour already…So I’ll teach you the ins and outs…
Kanato: Haah…? Why do I have to get tutored by you?
Azusa: But…You don’t want to get punished any worse, do you…?
Kanato: Kuh…Fine…Just this one time, do you understand?
Azusa: Well then, Kanato-san…Please repeat after me, okay…? After taking the customer’s order, you come back here…Then head towards the kitchen and say the following: ‘A crepe cake and hot coffee for table three…!’
Kanato: …
Azusa: Um…Did I go too fast? I’ll repeat one more time then…(speaks extra slow) ’‘A crepe cake and…Um…a hot coーー
Kanato: Ahー God! Could you speak any slower!? ‘A crepe cake and hot coffee for table three’, there!?
Azusa: Oh…Wow, Kanato-san…You sound incredibly motivated…!
Kanato: I’m not…You’re just exceptionally bad at this…
Azusa: Anyway, now you know how to pass the orders to the kitchen. Let’s go to the next step, okay? Afterwards…You have to carry the cake from the kitchen to the customer’s table…But before you do that, I recommend you put a little of this on top…
*Sprinkle sprinkle*
Kanato: Hey, Azusa…May I ask what you’re doing…?
Azusa: As a secret technique to make it even more delicious…I’m putting on some shichimi-spice…
Kanato: No…That doesn’t make any sense, does it? In what world do shichimi-spice and whipped cream go together!?
Azusa: Eh? You think so? But…
Azusa takes a bite of the cake.
Azusa: …Mmh! It’s good!
*Rustle*
Kanato: Excuse me!? Don’t just eat someone else’s order! I’ve been trying my best over here to hold back this whole time!
Azusa: Oh…I did it without thinking…Sorry…Um…Would you like a bite as well?
Kanato: No thank you! There’s no way a spicy cake could be delicious!
Azusa: Really…? What a shame…
Kanato: Anyway, you were supposed to teach me stuff, weren’t you? Hurry up and get it over with.
Azusa: Mmh. Well then…Let’s try and actually bring this cake to its table.
Kanato: Hah? But there’s been a bite taken out of it.
Azusa: Don’t worry…We’re only practicing right now.
Kanato: Ahー Is that so?
Azusa: You put the plate with the cake on the tray…
*Cling*
Azusa: And then you have to set the coffee…You use this coffee grinder to grind the beans. Kanato-san…Why not give it a try?
Kanato: I don’t want to. It’s just a test run so I can just pretend I did it, can’t I?
Azusa: You can’t. This machine is pretty tricky to use, you see? Come on…Give it a try. Hey? Hurry…
Kanato: …Fine! I just have to do it, right!? …This is obviously a piece of cake. All I’ve got to do is spin the handle after all.
Kanato starts grinding up the coffee beans.
Kanato: Excuse me…? Why does it stop…?
Azusa: One of the beans might have gotten stuck…You have to spin it a little slower…
Kanato: Could you not point out mistakes in my technique? Ahー God…All of this is just pissing me off…! Move already…! Move…! Aah!!
Azusa: Ah!
*Thud*
*Splat*
Kanato: …
Azusa: Ah…Hey…Are you okay…?
Kanato: Hey…My apron is covered in that weird mixture of shichimi-spice and whipped cream…
Azusa: Eh? But, that’s…because you tried to force the handle to spin when it was stuck…
Kanato: Shut up! Are you trying to say it’s my own fault!? You’re the one who told me to spin it!
Azusa: K-Kanato-san…Calm down!
Kanato: Shut up! Not another word!! I’m done with this! I’m going home!
Azusa: Y-You can’t…! Wait!
*Rustle rustle*
Kanato: Let me go, Azusa! I’ve reached my limit!!
Someone enters the store.
Azusa: But…L-Look! We’ve got a customer! So let’s at least greet them! …Welcoーー
*Rustle rustle*
Azusa: Ah…! Kanato-san…!
Kanato walks away.
Kanato: Hah! You go ahead and do that if that’s what you wiー
He bumps into the customer.
*Thud*
Kanato: …Excuse me!? You’re in the way!! …Eh!?
Azusa: Kanato-san…! That’s no way to talk to a customer…!
Azusa runs up to the two of them.
Azusa: …Eh? Eve…? Why are you here…?
You explain.
Azusa: Ah…You were worried about us…? …Thank you. But unfortunately…Kanato-san was just about to leave…
Kanato: That’s not true. I’ll actually do my job.
Azusa: Eh?
Kanato: Why do you seem so surprised, Azusa?
Azusa: I mean…Your statement is not adding up with what you said earlier…Also, how come you suddenly seem in a better mood now that Eve is here…? You were so upset earlier…
Kanato: I’m not upset at all. I was just trying to take a small break, that’s all. Say, Azusa, don’t you think you’re losing your ability to think straight because you’ve been making one mess-up after the other? I’m completely exhausted as a result…Honestly, I’m so glad you’re here now.
Azusa: What are you…saying…? You’re the one…who hasn’t been doing a proper joーー
Kanato: I’ve been doing exactly what was expected of me but take a look at this apron! Azusa spilled cake all over it! Would you please wipe it off? You have a handkerchief with you, don’t you? Oh, and while you’re here now anyway, why not enjoy some cake as well? I’ll be so kind as to take your order.
Azusa: Wait…! Eve…Kanato is spouting a bunch of lies…Besides…I’ll take your oder, okay? ーー Come on.
*Rustle*
Azusa: This way…I’ll show you the best seat.
Kanato: Now don’t try to one-up me! I’m the one who reached out to her first! Why don’t you go and make yourself useful by cleaning up the coffee grinder?
Azusa: And I believe you should go get changed…I’ll make sure to take her order in the meantime.
Kanato: Hah? She can take care of that. …Say, you’d just love to make yourself useful to me, don’t you?
Azusa: …
*Rustle rustle*
Azusa: You can’t…Eve is the one thing…I won’t let you have. I’ll be the one…showing her to her table!
*Rustle*
Kanato: Excuse me!? I’m the only one who’s allowed to touch her! You’re in the way!
Azusa: I can’t do that. …It’s impossible.
You try to calm both of them down.
Kanato: I never asked for your opinion! This is between the two of us!
Azusa: Our honor and pride as men depends on this. We need to make it clear who exactly you belong to, right here, right now…
Kanato: In that case, I shall use my fangs to show you the answer to that question immediately.
Azusa: Oh no…My fangs are the only ones she enjoys. She’s not interested in yours. …Right, isn’t that true, Eve…?
You back away.
Azusa: Don’t worry…No need to run away…I promise I’ll keep you safe from Kanato-san…
Kanato: You’re getting that wrong, Azusa. She’s afraid of you. …Hey, isn’t that right?
Both of them corner you.
Kanato & Azusa: You’ll choose me, won’t you?
*Rustle*
You make a run for it.
Kanato: Excuse me!? Where are you going…!?
Kanato chases after you, leaving the store.
Azusa: Waitー! Don’t run…!!
Azusa follows suit, leaving the store as well.

Hi, I'm not exactly new in the world of manga, but I'm not an expert either. What does tokuten mean? Based on a previous ask, I assume there is a MeguTsugu tokuten? Thanks a lot! I truly appreciate your work!!
Hello there! A tokuten is the extra page or leaflet that you get when you buy the first edition of a manga from a specific retailer. Sometimes the all first editions will come with a general tokuten, and then places like Animate, Comi Comi, Toranoana, Horin, etc, will have an additional one which is specific to them.
These usually cost a little more and are limited in number, so you have to order them pretty early to be guaranteed to be able to get them. The more popular the manga, the more likely the versions with tokutens are to sell out. Itoshi xl sold out faster than anything I’ve ever seen. 😂 Authors and publishers usually post information and links to the special editions on Twitter a little while before the volumes are released, and the online retailers will also be listing the volumes for pre-order.
Sometimes even a specific store will have special extras - like the Animate store in Shibuya, for example, and the first press of BLCDs will usually come with a leaflet too.
Scanlators will often try and gather as many of these extras as possible to include with their releases, which means we spend a lot of money on duplicate volumes to be able to get the extras.
Yes, indeed, there are tokutens for megu tsugu. We didn’t release the tokutens for vol 1, so we will include them with the vol 2 tokutens that we have to be released with the extra chapter from the volume. 😊

Can I ask what a drama CD is?
Drama CDs, or CD dramas, or sound stories, or audio dramas, or whatever you hear them called, are audio-only stories recorded onto a CD. You can read about them and their place in Japan here on Wikipedia. They’ve been around since before cassette tapes.
Japan likes recording them for anime adaptations for manga or novel material that didn’t make into the animation. Video games and novels also get drama CDs pretty frequently. Anime sound stories are often sold as bonus material to convince people to buy anime DVDs, but they can be included in other things or sold separately.
Japan and its tokuten culture is...fascinating and horrifying all at once
Sometimes they aren’t actually adaptations of anything and are wholly new material in this format.
YuuMori actually also did The Hunting of Baskervilles as a drama CD, if anyone is actually interested in figuring out what sound effect they chose for the eye-scream portion. I, personally, am not. As anime bonus material, these will have the anime seiyuu (Saito Soma and Furukawa Makoto) reading the scripts for the recording.
As you can imagine, because of their format, they’re basically impossible to translate (you can add an English script to them, but...), so they aren’t usually sold by American distributors (it happens sometimes, but the amount that wind up in America, even for adapted series that are released in America, just does not compare). People who want to find them go to otaku-specific shops, Japanese-owned import CDs stores, or, in today’s world, they just buy them online from Japan.
And as much as I say I hate them (and I do, because I can’t understand them anyway and my brain hate hate hates trying to focus on audio-only drama material; I can’t do audiobooks or podcasts, either), I do actually own a Gravitation drama CD that my parents bought when I was a teenager because they didn’t understand the difference between it and the OST.
And that was probably ten times the information you desired! YW, I’m here all week.

Shopping keywords for anime, etc. goods
This is a supplement to my previous posts about buying stuff from Japan. Even for stores that offer English versions of their sites (Amazon Japan, Mandarake), using titles and keywords in kanji/hiragana/katakana will usually get you the best search results. Fortunately, getting the title for a specific Japanese series isn’t hard as long as Wikipedia has a page on it, but figuring out the keywords to narrow your search for specific goods can be more difficult. Below are some of the most common merchandise terms, along with some others that may be of use for the overseas otaku.
アクリルスタンド=acrylic stand (a character/image cut out of acrylic that stands on a base)
バッジ=badge (usually a pin back)
ブロマイド=“bromide (a photo or print, usually of an actor or character)”
カレンダー=calendar
ケース=case (phonecase, etc.)
クリアファイル=clearfile
コースター=coaster
コラボカフェ=collaboration cafe (a tie-in cafe that usually includes limited edition goods)
コスプレ=cosplay
フィギュア=figure
イラストカード=illustration card (a bonus given with manga or other goods)
色紙=shikishi (a thick paper board used for illustrations)
キーホルダー=keyholder/keychain
リトグラフ=lithograph
ノート=“note (notebook)”
ぬいぐるみ=nuigurumi (stuffed toy)
パンフレット=pamphlet/programme for a show, movie, or performance
ピン=pin
ピンバッジ=pin badge
トランプ=playing cards/“trump”
ポストカード=postcard
ポスター=poster
シール=“seal (sticker)”
下敷き=shitajiki
スマホクリーナ=smartphone cleaner (a small piece of special cloth)
ステッカー=sticker
ストラプ=strap (usually a charm on a cord used to decorate phones, etc)
タペストリー=tapestry/wall scroll
テレカ=“teleka (telephone card)”
手ぬぐい=tenugui (Japanese handtowel)
特典=tokuten (a bonus included with an item)
ウィッグ=wig

hello~ i just checked cdjapan because i saw one anon mention that mafu's nandemoya-san goods can be bought there? (is it possible to link it below >) so i also found that mafu's album from all stores w/ their respective tokuten are also there >
Hello! :D Not everything from Nandemoya-san is up on CDJapan, but you can search “Mafumafu” on their site and scroll through the results to see what they’ve got \o/As for both those items and the albums from other stores, CDJapan actually isn’t technically “selling” these things, they’re offering them through their proxy service. That means they only order from Nandemoya-san or Animate/Tsutaya/etc. specifically when someone asks them to do that. Their site is a lot more convenient to proxy-buy from than FromJapan (where you have to fill out a new form for every item you wanna buy and go through like a millions steps ww) but I’ve found personally that FJ is cheaper to use than CDJapan’s proxy service. Idk if that’s still the case, but feel free to compare their fees and such? :O They’re technically the same service, just through different sites \o/For whether or not you’ll get the tokuten, you have the exact same chance ordering through CDJ as any other proxy~ If you’re looking at proxy-buying from a specific site (Animate, etc.) and want to see if the tokuten is still in stock, let me know and I can check if it’s still listed on the site for you \o/Hope that helps! :D

The Budget Traveler's Guide to Akihabara Shopping
So you've made it to Japan and are speeding to Akihabara via train, raring to get your hands on some otaku goods. Unfortunately, you've pretty much blown your money already on the plane ticket and hotel. Uguu~ doushiyou~?
Don't fret! If you have the knowhow to make the most of your yen, you'll be more than capable of acquiring a formidable haul for yourself, and be a courteous customer all the while. Here's a guide with some tips to make you a battle-ready smart shopper before you head to the fated Denki-gai / Electric Town station exit.
Note: Japanese phrases will be Romanized if they're primarily encountered in speech, and written out in kanji / kana if it's helpful to know how to read them.
Etiquette and Common Sense
First and foremost, you need to know the rules of engagement so as not to step on any toes (literally or figuratively) during your time in Akihabara.
"Remember your please and thank you." At a minimum, add these handy phrases to your Japanese vocabulary: onegaishimasu ("please," use as you bring your purchases to the counter); arigatou gozaimasu ("thank you," use anywhere it makes sense); shitsureishimasu ("excuse me," use to get someone's attention if you're moving past them, etc); sumimasen ("sorry," use if you accidentally bump into someone, knock something over, etc).
Whether driving or walking in Japan, stick to the left side. This is particularly important in the cramped stairs and walkways in Akiba's numerous shops, and helps everyone navigate around quickly and smoothly.
Be aware of your surroundings. Make room for people to move past, especially in tight areas (in return, most Akihabara-goers will make room for you even if they just hear your footsteps). Watch your back, especially if you're wearing a backpack, so you don't knock over sometimes precariously stacked items.
Be conscientious about photo and video. Lots of spots will have signs forbidding camera use, so keep an eye out for when it is or isn't okay. Also, people in Japan are sometimes less comfortable with being in a stranger's pictures and video than Western cultures are used to, so snap politely.
Refrain from phone calls and loud conversations while indoors; even if you're not called out for it, it can really annoy people.
Put items that you take out of their shelves back into the same spot, as best you can. Store inventory is usually sorted within shelves, not just by obvious details like author or price, but oftentimes by other factors such as genre, subject matter, and event of release (e.g. Comiket, M3)
There are these neat little trays at many shop registers that you put your payment (cash or card) into. It's polite to use the tray, and can make it easier to deal with small change to boot!
Save the unboxing for later! It might be tempting to open up the limited edition Magical Salaryman Daigorou BD with oppai mousepad that you just dropped mad yenzz for right outside the store, but hold off until you're back at the hotel.
Bargain-Hunting General Tips
Thanks for listening to my nagging. Now onto the fun stuff!
Bring cash! Not all stores will support your credit card, and those that do might incur a foreign transaction fee (look at the terms of your card to make sure). Cash is also a good way to place a hard cap on spending and keep you to your budget!
Pay very close attention to store signage! Large-scale discount and sales events will be announced with banners and bright colors, but not all deal will be announced with that level of fanfare. Keep an eye out for bundle discounts, price drops, and special items (特典, "tokuten," items that you claim at the register in addition to the item you purchase). Almost every store will have some kind of promotion active at any one time.
On a similar note, many stores have sections dedicated to lower-priced items, usually due to excess stock, older age, or being pre-owned. And it's not like these are bottom-of-the barrel goods either; these items are more often than not high quality stuff that gets moved out of the way for a near-constant stream of new arrivals. I've seen new, unopened games only 6 months old get discounted down 50%, and full volumes of manga just a couple years old dropped down from 600円 to a stunning 100円 a book. For the budget-conscious buyer, the low-price sections of Akihabara's stores is where the magic happens!
I mentioned before that store inventories are usually sorted in some way or another. If you're looking to buy something particular, it's a huge time-saver to scan through the shelves and find out the logic behind the organization, which is sometimes not explicitly labeled. For example, Toranoana's music CD section has signs letting you know it's organized by circle name. Some of the store's doujinshi shelves are organized the same exact way, but might not tell you.
Store layouts will often accommodate the most recent media market event, such as Comitia for manga, M3 for music, and Comiket for pretty much everything. These nicely-made displays are the place to go if you're looking to splurge on a long-awaited release by your favorite artists! Otherwise, you'll find most savings and discounts beyond these shelves.
A little Japanese language goes a long way. Here are some words to look out for, especially in store signage:
¥ / 円. Yen, pronounced "en." Prices are formatted like ¥1000 or 1000円.
万 Stands for 10,000. 3万円 equals 30,000 yen. Not used often.
Item counters. 本 for thick books, 冊 for thin ones (like magazines or doujinshi), 枚 for flat items such as DVDs, CDs, and games. Very helpful for deciphering common discounts such as "5枚 -> 20%OFF!"
中古, or more simply 古, indicates used items, most likely at a deep discount! Notes such as damage and used-up redemption codes will be written on the label, and you can bring it to the counter if you have questions.
一般 "general," as in "for general audiences." 成年 "adult," as in "for adults only." If buying items marked with the latter, you could be asked to confirm your age ("nenrei") is over 18, in which case any license with your date of birth will do.
ポイントカード "pointo kaado" for "point card." A store-specific card that acts sort of like a store membership. You can apply for one if you foresee making frequent purchases at a location, given you can overcome the language gap. However, point cards aren't mandatory for purchases and you'll also be fine without one; if you're asked at the register whether you have one, a simple "iie" or head-shake will do the job.
Geography and Store Selection
The majority of the Denki-gai is centered around two strips of buildings around a single, central street. It's right next to the JR station and hard to get lost!
Prices can vary greatly across stores! If you find something you like at a price you don't, hold off on the purchase and check out other stores. That same item might just pop up again at a better price! However, certain items are priced according to their suggested retail price no matter where they're sold: this is very common for new releases of manga, books, and games.
Be careful in stores that overtly advertise themselves as being tourist-friendly or multilingual. Many are totally harmless, honest businesses, but certain shops will mark up their prices to a premium, at worst being unreasonably expensive. The most unscrupulous variety will sell fake, lower quality products (this is especially dangerous for electronics!). Saddening that I have to warn you about this, but it is what it is.
You might have noticed that some stores have multiple Akihabara locations, sometimes just a couple hundred feet from each other (Toranoana, Sofmap, and Trader are just a few examples). The inventories and product categories featured will be very different, with the only major overlap being the most popular items. It's worth exploring each one!
Some stores will span a whole 6+ floors with specialized categories for each level, while others are tiny single-floor affairs that can be easy to miss. For example, there's an itty-bitty Melonbooks located underground down an unassuming flight of stairs, and a doujinshi-focused Toranoana on the third floor above a completely different shop! If you're having a hard time finding out where a particular store is located, there's usually some signage outside that will point you in the right direction.
If you have time, wander off the main street! Otherwise, you might miss gems like the utterly massive Bookoff (where I found shelf after shelf of 100円 manga).
Details, Quirks, and Miscellanea
Most stores in the Electric Town will open at 10 or 11 AM. Closing times vary, but you can expect 90% of stores to be open until 8 PM, with 10-11 PM being a very standard closing time.
Make sure to purchase your items on the same floor you find them stocked! If there is no register that floor, go to the register on the closest floor to you.
Don't worry about bringing bags to carry your purchases, stores will bag your items at the register, and will give you a large bag to carry multiple smaller ones, even if they're from other stores!
Yes, it's normal for some shops to tape your bags closed or use two bags to obscure the contents; it's for privacy's sake. No, you won't look like a criminal on the train back.
Paper-bound items will usually have a sample copy at the very top/front of the stack, which you can use to preview the work. Make sure to buy a normal copy!
Trading-card shops will sometimes have placeholder items in their shelves. Take the desired number of each to the front counter and you can exchange them for the real deal.
Another trading-card tip: sometimes the cashier will ask you if you have a proper deck ("dekki") for the TCG in question. They're just making sure you're not mistakenly buying a booster pack as opposed to a starter!
Similarly, when buying older games, particularly for PC, the cashier might ask to ensure your home system has the right specs ("spekku") to play it.
Shop staff will often greet customers with "irasshaimase" (welcome), if you're wondering what they're saying every time someone walks in.
Prepare your legs for a lot of walking and stair-climbing. Like, a LOT. Before my second trip to Akihabara I did leg workouts in preparation, I kid you not.
And that's all I got. If it sounds helpful to y'all I might add a store-specific guide in the future, for those looking for a specific category of goods to buy. For now, I hope this guide has been of some use. Best of luck out there.

Dear Sarah I heard keiko has a new single coming out.Where are you going to buy it?
Tumblr media
What a difficult question. I honestly don't know yet. I'll definitely be getting all three versions though because I couldn't possibly choose just a single cover. As always, the regular edition with no bonus features has the most gorgeous cover (at least in my opinion). They really know how to squeeze the most amount of money out of obsessed fans like me.
Tumblr media
For the time being, I'm waiting for them to release the different tokuten postcard designs. Usually I try to order at the stores that have the prettiest designs and of course I want my purchase to have a proper impact on the domestic sales numbers so I make sure to buy in a Japanese store via proxy. Most of the time, I end up ordering on Animate or HMV. For overseas fans, I recommend ordering on Amazon.co.jp. They offer international shipping and their "Mega Jackets" are pretty neat. The NEOWING design [D] will be available on CDJapan which is always a good option for overseas fans.
■Store specific original tokutens Amazon.co.jp: "Mega Jacket" Other stores: Postcard [A] Tower Records: Postcard [B] Lawson HMV: Postcard [C] NEOWING: Postcard [D] Animate: Postcard [E]
■FC shop “KEIKO Official Fan Club Meat and Chocolate CD/DVD OFFICIAL SHOP” tokuten FC Shop: Postcard [F]
If the FC design is very pretty, I'll probably get that too. They are also planning to hold a release event so I would hold off on ordering too much just yet. You'll have to order at least one other copy if you want to take part in the release event. Wonder if it's going to be a Tower Records event. It usually is... There's no mention of an online sign event yet but maybe they will hold one of those too. I'd really appreciate it.

Wakana 3rd Album Details Revealed & New Artist Visual
Following the little teasers from yesterday, we finally have some concrete news today.
Wakana’s 3rd original album 『そのさきへ』 ("Sono saki e") will be released physically/digitally on May 31st. The first new album in over 3 years welcomes Satoshi Takebe as producer and is comprised of a total of 10 tracks including the songs "標 (Shirushi)" composed by singer-songwriter Yoshiko Hanzaki, “明日を夢見て歌う(Asu wo Yume Mite Utau)” composed/arranged by Satoshi Takebe with lyrics written by Wakana as well as "Flag", a character theme song for the mobile app “Memento Mori”. Other songs will be announced at a later date. Please look forward to it.
[Comment from Wakana] This 3rd album "Sono Saki e (Beyond this point)" will be the first album in 3 years and 3 months since my previous work "magic moment". The title of this album came from the desire to “walk towards the future together”. We are all living in the same world, living in the same time. As long as we are alive, we are always moving forward. No matter how sad or painful things are, time won't stop or wait for us, we can't stand still. If there are people who feel loneliness in such a time, I want them to remember that they are not alone. I want to make the kind of music that always stays by someone's side. It's not an exaggeration but if my music can make you smile, it makes me happier than anything else. With the help of Satoshi Takebe and many other people, I was able to bring my thoughts and feelings to life. While waiting impatiently for the day we can finally release it, we will carefully work on the final details of the album. Please look forward to the finished result! ***Wakana***

Funny how Wakana can’t remember whether she put an “へ” and heart after the name last time. She DID of course so that’s what they are going with today as well.
So glad we are getting her album tracks as background music🤗
Really love the Celtic(?) sound of “Rapa Nui”, it’s swiftly becoming one of my favourite tracks. Kinda sounds like something you would hear at a medieval festival. Reminds me a bit of Kalafina’s “Moonfesta” I guess. Based on the title, I would have expected the song to sound totally different but I am honestly not mad about it.
“Shirushi” is the type of song that I will only be able to enjoy live.
Still obsessed with “Kibou”. Such a gorgeous melody. Sounds so much like a 90s pop ballad. Cannot wait to hear this live. Although the chorus is really high so she might struggle with it...?
YAY, I got my personalised “Sarah-chan”!! I was afraid that Wakana would write “Sarah-chan-san” but thankfully she didn’t XD A shame that she seemed to be in quite a rush today, she barely held the signed cover up for a second but oh well, still super happy!! [Someone in the comments even mentioned that her pace was a bit too fast to take proper screenshots LOL]

“Kara” is okay but nothing outstanding. The more generic version of “Tsubasa” I guess. Wakana even mentions that Satoshi Takebe intended for it to become Tsubasa 2.0.
I wanna appreciate “KEMONO” for its artistry but damn, I cannot handle listening to it. It triggers some serious heart palpitations T_T I am so curious how she will manage to sing this live.
Hearing the full version of “Asu wo Yume Mite Utau“ is really nice, I like the arrangement. I can see myself appreciating this song more and more as time goes by.
It’s a shame that I can’t really get into “Sono Saki e”, it is still kinda meh to me.
Wow, this event was so much longer than the last one. Happy that Wakana got to sell a lot of copies.

They have instrumental versions of Wakana’s work as BGM. A big portion was instrumentals of Wakana’s Anime Classics. Wish they would release that on CD. Unfortunately nothing from the new album. I was hoping for some sneak peeks of the new songs but I guess it’s a bit too early for that T_T
Oh no, seems like she is often adding a さん to names that already have a ちゃん. For the second sign event I actually put “Sarahちゃん” as nickname because I was hoping she would just leave it like that (in previous events she did that) but I guess she is not always thinking about that so occasionally she will add a  さん.Oh well. I had to try :P Let’s hope for the best!
Wakana talks about the upcoming MV for her album track “Butterfly Dream”. She already spoiled this announcement in one of her reply tweets a few ago but it’s nice to get an official announcement XD Seems like they once again hired the director who already did the MV for “Toki ni wa Mukashi no Hanashi wo” so I am sure it’s gonna be gorgeous. They shot it in Utsunomiya and Wakana already got to watch a first version of it. Her main takeaway was that her forehead looked huge in a lot of shots LOL. She felt quite self-conscious and wished she had bangs
Interesting, didn’t expect them to include a proper intermission with video promos, nice addition.
Wakana is really hyping up KEMONO. She is not allowed to reveal anything specific but according to her, it’s pretty much the most amazing thing ever. And it was the song she mentioned previously in an Instagram post, the one she had a very hard time with.

KEIKO 3rd Album “CUTLERY” Oricon Daily Album Charts
On February 7, Keiko’s 3rd album “CUTLERY” debuted at #8 in the Oricon Daily Album charts. That’s a really high position for a rather small artist. As of right now (February 8) , the album is no longer in the top 30. For reference, her 2nd album “dew” debuted at #29. Of course, the debut rank does not necessarily have any significance in the long run but it’s still a noticeable improvement. (“dew” ultimately reached #52 in the weekly charts and “Lantana” ended up at rank #32 so I am hoping for a solid weekly placement in the top 20.)
Edit from the future: I was too optimistic. “CUTLERY” ultimately ranked higher than “dew” but lower than “Lantana”

I am assuming the online-sign event is responsible for those increased sales numbers (it’s definitely not the outstanding quality of the album ¬_¬). They announced those sign events pretty late during the promo campaign so many people had already ordered their copies in different stores to get their store specific tokutens. Seems like Keiko’s marketing team is finally figuring out how to get people to buy more copies, good for them. They even made fans spend outrageous amounts of money on that criminally expensive limited edition by offering a splendid A4-sized photo with a personalised autograph.I was quite surprised to see so many people had opted for the priciest version.
Anyway, I am very curious about the weekly results. Let’s wait and see...From what I can tell, most of her Japanese fanbase and even some overseas fans seem to genuinely enjoy this new style so it would make me happy to see her have success with this release.
