Next stitching! I'll post pics of my finished The Great embroidery once I get it framed (which I need to go buy....)
Pattern is by KikisEmbroideries. (Note that this is only the pattern. What stitches to use and what colors are used is not included.)

First embroidery project I ever did!
In the first pic, that one line of split stitch is all kinds of fucked. It looks like one side of the split tried to make a break for it but didn't escape in time. And what is even happening at the bottom of that same line? Looking at the rest of these stitches, I'm going to guess that this might actually be the first line of stitches I did for this piece (maybe the first lines I ever did).
The second pic is to show off more split stitch nonsense but also, I don't know if you can tell from this pic, but the end of one of my lengths of floss is fucking sticking out from between the seams. Just... sticking out. I have no idea why past!Geeky decided she didn't want to fix it but I have no plans to fix it myself because I've become charmed by it's stupidity.
Anyway, after this I said "fuck patterns" and then just started doing whatever I wanted with split stitch. I've actually only recently (in the past year or two) started pushing myself out of my comfort zone and am trying to do things that require stitches I'm not comfortable with (so basically anything other than a back stitch, straight stitch, split stitch, and French knot).
(Pattern for this project can be found in Doodle Stitching by Aimee Ray; she makes it look much nicer.)
#geeky talks#embroidery made geeky#stitchery made geeky#geeky talks stitchery#also french knots are the worst and they took me ages to figure out

First mushroom done!
The head of the mushroom is filled in with a deliberately rough split stitch (the same stitch that is used for the letters). The stems are satin stitch that I then fucked with.

#geeky talks#embroidery made geeky#stitchery made geeky#geeky talks stitchery#also this pic is so yellow ohmygod

*weeping in joy* I'm so glad to be doing something other than the satin stitch. Especially the split stitch which is my favorite stitch.

Very late but finally finished Xmas present for my brother and sister-in-law. Strange Planet embroidery! All done with split stitch, back stitch, and straight stitch which are, basically, all the same stitch. XD Love the split stitch.

Little bit by little bit we're getting there.
Honestly, I just don't enjoy the satin stitch that much and I'm not very practiced with it, so it's taking me ages to get anyway.
Also, I bought a new stitching "hoop" that's not a hoop. I was constantly having to move the hoop and it was messing with some of my stitches (see neck and chest) so I decided to try something else.
This is something called a scroll frame and it sounds like what it is: you wrap the fabric between two bars and stretch it out that way. (If anyone wants a pic, let me know.)
I'm not sure if it's something I'll use for all my stitching. It's very bulky and I can feel an ache between my shoulder blades which means that I was holding the frame in a weird way for at least a bit. The weight of it isn't a problem the way I thought it might be because I prop it up on chest and my leg and that takes a lot of the weight.
#geeky talks#stitchery made geeky#geeky stitchery#next up is i think mars' advent calendar#we're not going to insane as last year#(thankfully when i explained it to mars she had already assumed that)#but i found these tiny little snake cross-stitch patterns#and they're super cute#i'll turn them into embroidery and make little hoops of them#and then i found these ridiculously cute tiny dragon stuffys#so mr. geeky is in charge of working on those#anyway very excited to be done with this pattern and there's still a ton left#after i finish the dress i have to do the huzzah#and i also have to fix her chest/neck#but yeah i really like it but i definitely wouldn't do it again

Finished my embroidery! (Okay, finished it a while ago and kept forgetting to post pics.)
I'm trying to find a frame that looks like something you might fight around an old lady's "god grant me the serenity" embroidery but so far no luck.

Colors for my mushroom embroidery! I had to eyeball the majority of these because the pattern is literally only the pattern and it doesn't say colors or types of stitches.
I basically had to sit down with the image of the finished product in front of me and take copious notes, including researching different types of stitches when I didn't recognize some of them. But Geeky, you may be asking me, couldn't you just do it all in your beloved split stitch? And, yes, technically I could, but my focus at the moment is learning new stuff plus I really liked the way they did theirs so here we are.
Anyway, below is an example of the notes I had to take, in case anyone is curious.

I finished my last embroidery project (I'll post pics when I get it framed) so I've been working on this one: an amazing embroidery of Catherine from The Great. (There's also a version where she's holding a cup instead of flipping the viewer off but I'm me, so of course I preferred the "fuck you" version.)

Desk finished! This is technically a barbie desk but since Mars doesn't play with barbies I guess it'll be whatever she wants desk.
I basically just made it because I was itching to do something with my hands, my embroidery was pissing me off, and I had everything on hand to make this. So here it is!
#geeky talks#crafting made geeky#plastic canvas made geeky#stitchery made geeky#honestly have no idea what to tag this#anyway mars has asked me to make her a bed for her toys next#since my mom and i obsessively bought these barbie plastic canvas books when i was younger#(and then promptly never used them)#mom has a ton of these at her place#(i have just the castle one)#so i asked her to send me pics of ones she had#and she had a bunk bed one so i'm gonna make that one
