day two of clawing my way out of artblock

tried something a little more ambitious today: i've been thinking of how i can bring my digital art style into my traditional art. so i tried experimenting by drawing chef Moon from my Have You Eaten? AU with markers and colour pencils (because honestly, it's the lineless details in their design that make them harder to draw traditionally, which is why i lined them all with a fineliner in their original drawing, which is fine, but it's a different feel from lineless version of my digital art, so i wanted to see if i can accomplish it)

i was tempted to just leave today's practice at that, but then i decided to note down my thoughts:

(definitely recommend marking up your drawings/studies, or write your notes elsewhere.)

overall i felt kinda dissatisfied with the experiment and marking it up with my thoughts helped pinpoint the problem areas and what i should try for the next time. so i took all that and tried again:

(i also decided last minute to try something with the lineart, adding darker areas by adding a few dots of a darker blue and blending it out. dunno if i'll do that all the time, but it's pretty)

but i'm glad i kept going after the initial experiment. i'm pretty happy with the final one (maybe i'll try Sun and Eclipse in the coming days. you have been thoroughly warned.)

#bonnie #bonnie isat #bonifire #in stars and time #isat #fanart #isat spoilers #isat act 6 spoilers #my loopified bonnie (who is creatively named bonifire) is herently a lot of effort to draw #so the fact that i went out of my way to 1) paint the favour tree again like my loop image that one time #2) make it a fucking 2 page comic #and 3) paint the path TO the favour tree as well #can you imagine how my knuckles feel right now?#also high fidelity bonnie finally (or their face at least the poker game they were viewed from behind)#i like to think that bonifire doesn't actively hide the fact they were bonnie once but they also won't say it outright #unlike the others who would make a name to try and hide the fact that it's hopeless to get out of the loops to their respective looper #bonifire who is still a pre-teen who still had no idea how to feel about their name just lets bonnie pick name and pronouns for them #read; bonnie called them a bonfire and bonifire's immediate thought was to make it a pun #siffrin would be proud (that is if he was still around and bonnie's version of him knew them)#bonnie takes a little while to actually understand that bonifire is them but they've gotta get their head around looping first #it's less doing detective work to figure out a secret and more so finally learning what things mean and seeing retroactively the obviousnes

Hiya! I'd like to ask how do you do your ms paint art? Do you first make the outlines and then colours, or perhaps vice versa? I really adore your ms paint art and would love to know the process (for practice purposes:))

Depends! My two strategies, featuring Cactus Gunman of Gregory Horror Show fame:

I often just color right on top of my sketches when I'm being silly + designing characters + just trying to figure out what something looks like (and tend to use this to fiddle with details and colors) It's usually quicker for me to end up with something that I'm happy with.

Most of the time when I bother to do separate, cleaner line art, it's because I'm making a graphic for my website. LOL. I think it feels a little more cartoonish-silly, which is usually what I'm going for when I decide to do this. It's also a bit harder to make large changes to whatever I'm drawing, so I'm usually working off of a messier thing I've already made.

(Technically, I no longer use MS Paint and instead use Aseprite due to becoming a Linux user, but nothing has really changed about the way I draw + all of this can be done in MS Paint just fine.)

#I've found that I actually have a harder time making color palettes in Aseprite than MS Paint (I used to use the marker tool to mix colors)#(and haven't yet found out an equivalent tool to mix colors together)#Anyway the only feature that I use regularly in Aseprite that MS Paint doesn't ''have'' is easy transformation controls #(Paint has transformation options in the skew/scale menu but not every computer supports the trick I used to use to rotate stuff)#Also you can animate in Aseprite. There's layers but I don't use them.#beebfreeb art tag #funny talking tag #This was probably a little more talking than you expected but I am very particular about these sorts of things.#Anyway I am so mad about how my favorite version of MS Paint has absolutely no Wine support and that everything that I've looked up said:#''Just use a different program'' With different features? Actually, I find the division between art, science, and math to be a very nebulous idea and useless when you actually interact with the universe. The more you learn about the world, the more you surround yourself with art and science and math, and you'll never be able to see it any other way and it will be beautiful. When I take your hand, it won't be the science of our atoms closing the distance between us that we will experience, but the math of our fingers interlocking and the art of our bodies that we will experience. You are math and you are science and you are art, and nothing will make you any lesser💛
