i didn't like this album the first time i heard it. or the second. but something about it fascinated me, and it got good reviews from writers i respected, so i went back again. and eventually, something about it clicked for me. something about the way the three members of the band seem to be constantly trading places as to who is the "lead" of the song, but not in a way that's competitive or grandstanding. there's no real soloing, instead it's just like a constantly shifting moire pattern, yr attention moving between the guitars, drums, and vocals organically, sometimes unrelated to the shifts within the song.

Still House Plants have always operated outside norms of taste and style – within both rock and more experimental styles of Western music. If I Don’t Make It, I Luv U, rather than establish a new sound, simply escalates, elevates and experts the trio’s music as exhibited on Long Play (2018) and Fast Edit (2024), heightening its tender and raw emotional prostration and adding further instrumental muscle and momentum. Both the band’s greatest work and one of the year’s best records, each listen further overwhelms.
