Sports Knowledge - Stiles Stilinski
Author: @harringtonstilinski Characters: Stiles Stilinski x Emma Thomas Word Count: 1,276 Warnings: fluff, set in summer 2012, Smut: no | yes; Requested: Yes. This is so short, I'm so sorry!! 😩 But, I hope this meets your expectations, @fandom-princess-forevermore A/N: Hi, friends! We have - 🥁 🥁 🥁 - A STEMMA FIC fic!! I miss them, hahaa. We're gonna stick this in between seasons 2 & 3! I hope you like this! If you do, please do not hesitate to reblog and give some feedback, whether it be in the reblogs, comments, or my inbox. As always, read at your own risk and enjoy 😊
“You’re wrong.”
“How am I wrong? I know more about this team than you do.”
“Fine. How many World Series have they won?”
“Two. Next.” I looked at Stiles, taking a bite of my sub sandwich.
I could tell that Stiles was thinking about his next question for a moment before giving me an opened mouth smile. “Best player-” I went to interrupt him, but he cut me off with the rest of his question. “-ever.”
Taking a deep breath, I thought about it before asking, “Personal preference or statistically?”
“Let’s go statistically,” he smiled, popping a chip into his mouth.
Sighing, I had to wrack my brain for the answer, looking dead into Stiles’ eyes. “Is it…-” I looked down at the table, my eyes dancing around as I muttered, “Fuck, I know this.” Looking back up at him, I asked, “Is it… Tom Seaver?”
Stiles’ eyes almost shot out of their sockets with how wide they went. “Holy shit, that’s right?” Looking under the table, he asked, “You got your phone out or something?” When he brought his head back up, he looked at me as I laughed, my hand over my mouth.
“No,” I said, trying to control my laughter.
“Well, then how did you know that?”
I couldn’t help the scream that came out, my hand still covering my mouth as I laughed. “Because you told me!”
Leaning closer to the table as I snorted, Stiles whispered, “You’re making a scene. Calm down.”
“I’m trying,” I laughed, wiping at my eyes. Taking deep breaths, I still had a smile on my face. Hearing snickers had my attention turning a few of the lacrosse players that were on the team with Scott and Stiles.
“Who’s the best lacrosse player on the team?” I asked, a little too loudly.
Confused, Stiles turned to see who or what I was looking at; seeing Joey Anderson and their goons from the team. He turned back to look at me, seeing the rage in my eyes that I was sure was there. Casting his eyes down to look at his food, he sighed, “Let it go, Em.”
“How the hell can I let it go?” I asked. “They almost cost me my spot on the team.” I looked at Stiles as his head snapped back up to look at me.
“You’re the coach’s niece,” he deadpanned. “You’re not gonna lose your job.”
I sighed, sitting back in my chair, playing with the straw in my cup. When I looked at him, he was resting his chin in his hand, a small soft smile on his face. “What?”
Stiles shook his head, looking down while crossing his arms across the table, leaning on them. “You’re just… so beautiful.”
“Uh-huh,” I said, trying not to smile as I looked out the window. When I side eyed him, I couldn’t help the smile that formed on my lips as he said, “You’re so pretty.” I raised a brow at him, his smile ever present on his face.
“You’re beau-,” Stiles said, but was interrupted by Joey and his goons.
“Hey, Stilinski!” Joey said. “You trying to fit in now or what?” Stiles stiffened, Joey’s words getting to him. He was growing his hair out and I was loving it. His hair had the smallest of spikes to it; baby spikes, if you will. I was sad when I woke up one morning and his baby face was all but gone. His new hair makes up for it.
“Hey, Anderson,” I said, standing from my seat. I started walking over towards his table, but Stiles’ hand in mine stopped me. “How about you - I don’t know - go home and spend time with Mary Palmer and her five sisters while watching your favorite porno site since, ya’know, you can’t get any.” I didn’t wait for a reply as I turned and grabbed my stuff, food included, and walked out of the restaurant to Stiles’ Jeep.
Feeling Stiles’ body next to mine, I looked up at him, sheepishly. “I can’t open the door.”
“Why not?” he asked, confused
Holding my hands up, I showed him the items in my hands; my phone, drink and bag that I had put my sandwich back in after wrapping it. “My hands are full.”
He sighed, exasperatedly before moving to open the door for me. I knew he would anyway. He’d been doing it since Noah taught him how to drive this hunk of junk.
“You’re lucky you’re cute,” he muttered, walking away from me.
I chuckled and got into my seat, setting my sandwich bag on the floor by my feet, taking a sip of my drink as Stiles got into the driver seat, starting up the Jeep. He stopped all movement as I looked over at him. “What’s up, babe?”
Stiles looked over at me, looking into my eyes for a second before softly smiling. Shaking his head, he said, “Nothing.”
With a fake sad face, I looked at him and asked, “Is it because I was starting to kick your ass in sports knowledge?”
He chuckled, backing out of our parking spots to head to our next destination. “No. And we barely even got started before Anderson distracted you.”
“Eh, he’s just mad I won’t spread my legs for him. He’s also a dick. Like, the biggest. I mean, his stats on the team aren’t that great. He’s barely even on the field, his stats are not great, and he’s just a fucking tool.” I was silent for a moment while I thought my words over, my eyebrows scrunching in finality. “Ya’know what? Fuck him. He’s not even worth my time.”
Looking over at Stiles, I asked, “Ya’know what is worth my time?”
“What?” he asked with a chuckle, that smirk I loved so much on him showing up.
“Kicking your ass in sports knowledge.”
When he spared a glance at me, I smiled big.
“Okay, sassypants,” he said. “Give me the top 5 Mets players on the team right now.”
Without missing a beat, I answered, “In no specific order; David Wright, Matt Harvey, Jon Niese, R.A. Dickey, Ruben Tejada.” I looked over at Stiles, straw between my teeth as I watched the blush on his cheeks rise up. Trying to hide the smile that was forming, I asked him, “Are you blushing?”
In that Stiles way that I loved about him, - no, we haven’t said those words yet - he started to get even more flustered, as he looked between me and the road. “Bl-blushing?” He scoffed, trying to act all cool and shit. “Pshh. I don’t blush.”
With the most deadpan expression I could muster, I replied, “You do and you are.”
“N… no.”
“Stiles.”
“Okay, fine,” he breathed. Looking over at me, I saw the hint of a smile on his lips. “It’s hot, okay. You knowing all this stuff about the Mets.”
Reaching over to card my finger through the hair at the nape of his neck, I smiled and replied, “Well, I have the best teacher.”
That hint of a smile on his face grew into that fucking smirk that could make my panties drop. Opening my mouth to say those three words, I stopped myself, instead bringing my hand from his hair to his hand, lacing our fingers together.
Beating me to the punch, Stiles brought my knuckles to his mouth, placing soft kisses to each one. “What do you say to us going home, grabbing my laptop and marathoning Back to the Future while we finish our subs.”
I smiled so big, my cheeks were sure to hurt within the next five seconds. “I’d love that.”

O magari no?
Riuscirà Sachiko a tornare a casa?
La prima light novel spin-off di The Promised Neverland!
Even if we can't use magic di Kanna Kii
A dream of Cuckoos di Tamekou

Stiles and I took the file that Melissa had with her and took it to Deaton. Why we took it to Deaton, I wasn’t sure, but here we were; walking with him through the clinic as he looked at the file.
“Vanishing twin syndrome?” he asked.
“This is part of your expertise, right?” Stiles asked.
“Babe, the man deals with animals and supernatural creatures, not humans,” I said.
Deaton looked over at us. “She’s right.” He looked back down at the file, setting it down on the exam table.
The back door opening had all three of us looking in that direction. What I didn’t expect to see was Scott and Liam bring in the Surgeon Dread Doctor.
“He’s still alive,” Scott said. Him and Liam laid the Surgeon on the table. “Can you keep him alive?”
“I’m not sure he technically is alive,” Deaton said, going to unbutton the Surgeon’s shirt.
Stiles put his arm around my waist, pulling me against him as I stood between him and Scott.
“Screw keeping him alive,” Liam said. “How do we get him to talk?”
“Personally, I don’t think we utilize torture nearly enough,” Stiles said.
I leaned my head against his shoulder. Not getting enough sleep was exhausting.
Liam looked up in our direction. “Did you hear that?”
After a few seconds, the Surgeon jolted up from his lying position, emitting a high-pitched noise that had all of us covering our ears, bending forward. Everything in the room shook like there was an earthquake happening. I closed my eyes tight, feeling Stiles trying to cover me as best he could with his own body. I still had my eyes closed, a headache forming from the noise. I felt two pairs of hands on me, moving me out of the way of whatever’s happening.
Uncovering my ears, I turned and saw that every piece of metal equipment and table was against the door.
“Stop,” Deaton said, stopping Scott and Liam in their tracks. “It’s electrified.”
Scott’s body language told me that he was listening in on the conversation taking place outside.
Stiles wrapped his arms around me, asking quietly, “Are you okay?”
I nodded my head, staring at the back of Scott’s head.
“The cane,” Scott whispered.
“But they took it. They took the cane,” Liam added.
“Mind filling the ones who don’t have supernatural hearing in?” I asked.
“Argent took the cane,” Scott said.
“Well, that’s just peachy.”
~~~
Scott started looking through the file after we moved everything back in place once it became demagnetized… or non-electrified. “Maybe there’s something in here. Something about how he was a Genetic Chimera.”
“Mason had a vanishing twin,” I sighed.
“Now we’ve got a vanishing Mason,” Stiles said.
“What does that have to do with him turning into a 250 year old French guy?” Liam wondered. “How does that even happen?”
“Hold on, Scott might have something,” Deaton said, pointing to Scott. “Mason’s twin wasn’t entirely gone. That’s what made him a Genetic Chimera.”
We all looked at Scott, who said, “The DNA was still there.”
“Metaphorically speaking, the DNA of Mason could still be inside Sebastien as well.”
“How?” Stiles asked.
Deaton looked at me, nodding to give me the go ahead to start explaining. How he knew I knew, I’ll never know… wait.
“Life is energy. Energy doesn’t just disappear,” I said.
“The Dread Doctors may have found a way to break the rules of the supernatural world, but there are some rules that simply won’t break,” Deaton added.
“So Mason can’t just be gone?” Liam asked.
“Somewhere in Sebastien he has to still exist in some form,” I said, leaning my hands on the table in front of me. I watched Stiles pick up the mask, looking at it as I continued. “A spark of energy, a flicker of memory.”
“Hang on…” Stiles said. “Liam, you said Mason said something right before he turned.”
“He said, that’s not my name,” Liam informed.
“He finally remembered his name,” Scott said.
“Damnatio Memoriae,” Stiles and I said.
“That’s what they wanted,” Liam said. “They wanted Sebastien to remember his name.”
“Scott, you know the myth of what happens when you call a werewolf by its given name?” Deaton asked. “Emma, since you have werewolf blood in you, this applies to you as well.”
Scott and I looked at each other, knowing what it meant. He only knows because I told him after doing all that research after he was first bitten. “It turns back to human.”
“What does that mean?” Liam asked. “Someone can just walk up to the Beast, yell Mason’s name and turn him back?”
I felt three pairs of eyes on me with Scott’s next words. “Not someone…”
I looked at Scott, Stiles and Deaton, rolling my head back with my eyes closed. “Why is it always me?”
Stiles grabbed his phone from his pocket and texted our dads, letting them know about Sebastien while Mom picked me up to head to the station to meet up with Lydia. But not before giving Stiles a kiss.
~~~
Hayden and I got to the station at around the same time, walking through together. We looked around, seeing her sister, Sheriff and my dad on the floor.
I looked over at Lydia, seeing Sebastien coming at her, claws and fangs on display for the entire station to see.
Right before Sebastien got to Lydia, I pushed her out of the way and faced him, letting out a high-pitched scream that took over as he dug his claws into my neck. My scream was so powerful that it sent him crashing into the wall behind him.
Feeling the blood coming out of my neck, I put my hands over the wounds, dropping to my knees. Lydia rushed to my side just as Sheriff and Dad were getting to their feet.
Just as I was starting to fall back, Dad wrapped me up in his arms, carrying me bridal style out to his cruiser, Sheriff and Lydia following.
Dad drove as fast as he could to the hospital, Sheriff and Lydia helping me out after Dad put the car in park. He ran to my side, picking me up bridal style again and rushing into the building, my godfather and best friend following.
I still had my hands around my neck, whimpering in pain as Sheriff called out for Melissa.
~~~
A few hours after I had, yet another surgery, Sheriff and Dad left so that I could get some rest, but Lydia, as always, refused to leave my side. I had fallen asleep sometime after, tired from the last few days.
I woke up feeling someone sitting on the side of my bed, holding my hand. I grunted as I looked over at Lydia.
“Hey. You alright?” Stiles asked.
“Did-- did you find… something else?” I grunted. It hurt like a bitch to talk. “Another solution?”
I heard Lydia’s heels click on the ground as she walked to my other side, putting her hand on my arm.
Stiles sighed. “No. Well, maybe.” He looked up at Lydia then back down at me. “It’s you and Lydia.”
I looked over at her, smirking a bit. “Badass bitches on parade.”
I felt Scott and Liam somewhere in the building before Scott walked into my room.
“Hey, Em. How you feeling?” he asked.
I gave him a look, then turned my eyes over to Stiles.
“She can’t really talk. Sebastien almost got her vocal chord,” Stiles answered for me.
Scott nodded and looked down.
“Scotty,” I groaned. He looked up at me. “It’s not your fault,” I said, voice going in and out.
“Em, if I’d had just--”
“You can’t protect everyone, Scotty.”
Lydia smoothed my hair down, shushing me. “Try not to talk too much. Doctors orders.”
“You know she never listens,” Stiles said.
The four of us chuckled, me barely.
“Alright. I’m gonna update Liam. He’s worried about you,” Scott said.
I lifted the left corner of my mouth, letting Scott know that I appreciated it. He walked out of the room, giving that same small smile I’d just given him.
Lydia moved towards the door, grabbing her purse. Stiles placed a long kiss on my head before looking me in the eyes. “I’ll be back. I promise.”
I nodded and patted at his stomach, hearing it growling. He chuckled and placed a sweet kiss on my lips before pulling away and walking out the door behind Lydia.
A few minutes went by before Scott and Liam walked in my room and over to either side of me.
“We’re gonna help you sit up,” Scott said, him and Liam placing their hands on my shoulders. “Ready?”
I nodded, both werewolves helping me sit up, gently. I groaned in protest, the pain in my neck causing discomfort.
The door opened, Melissa, Stiles and Lydia walking in before Lydia closed the door.
Melissa walked to my left side, Liam moving out of the way. “Emma, this is gonna have to be just between us, since I can get fired for it.”
“It’s a cortisone shot. It’s gonna bring the inflammation down,” Scott informed.
I nodded, watching as Melissa pulled said medicine from her sweater pocket, uncapping the needle. I put my arm out, thinking she was gonna put it in my arm.
“Not there,” she confirmed.
I gave her a look that said I wasn’t happy with that answer.
“I can hear the sass laced in your voice with that look,” she said. She sighed and put her hands up on my neck, pulling the tape and gauze back, a groan coming from my lips.
“Oh, yeah, okay, babe, I love you, but I’m gonna need to leave,” Stiles said.
“You’re not going anywhere. Get over here and hold your girlfriend's hand.”
“Okay, fine. I’m not leaving, but I still might faint.”
“What are you gonna do when you two have children?” Lydia asked.
“Faint,” Stiles said, grabbing my hand and lacing our fingers together.
“Okay,” Melissa said, softly, gently taking a hold of my chin. “Here we go.”
I took a few deep breaths, not taking my eyes off Stiles. Melissa didn’t even get 6 inches to my neck before we all heard a thud, a space where Liam was standing. I rolled my eyes before Scott went to move.
“You, stay by her side, I’ll get him,” Lydia said.
Scott grabbed my hand in preparation.
“Okay, Emma, this is gonna hurt like a bitch,” Melissa said. With that little bit of a warning, she stuck the needle in my neck, whimpers coming from me, and hand breaking for my best friend and boyfriend.
As she squeezed the medicine in my neck, I took in a deep breath, wanting this to be over as fast as possible. When the medicine was out of the syringe, she removed it from my neck and replaced the tape and gauze.
Lydia walked over to my side, helping me off the bed. Stiles rushed over to my side, as well, helping Lydia dress me in my regular clothes after Melissa and the werewolves exited the room.
After getting into the elevator and going down to the first floor, Stiles, Scott, Lydia and Liam helped me walk out.
~~~
“Okay, I’ll get Malia. Text me when you find Parrish,” Stiles said, giving me a quick kiss on my temple.
“Hold on,” Scott said.
Liam and Lydia held me up as Scott let go to give Stiles something from his jacket pocket.
Stiles took it, looking back up at Scott. “What is this?”
“Something I’ve been working on for a while,” Scott said. “Just make sure Malia gets it.”
“Okay. Is it a Plan B?” Stiles asked, moving over towards me.
“It was Plan A,” Scott said.
“Plan A never works,” Stiles said, putting his hand on my upper arm.
I looked back and forth between the two best friends.
“This one will,” Scott said.
“Okay,” Stiles said, looking down at me.
I looked up at him, giving him questioning eyes.
“Be careful. Please,” he said.
I pursed my lips together, hearing a chuckle from Lydia. “She’ll be fine,” Lydia said. “She’s with me. Another badass Banshee.”
“Fair enough,” he said, kissing my temple once more before turning around to walk off.
I whined in protest, causing him to turn back to me… with a chuckle. I had my lips puckered, wanting one more kiss from him before he left me to be a hero. He placed his lips on mine, a sweet kiss following.
He pulled away, looking deep into my eyes. “I love you.” “I love you, too,” I mouthed.
He turned around again, actually making his way out of the hospital.
We piled into my Jeep that my Mom had apparently dropped off and drove to the tunnels, getting out and trying to find our way to… wherever the hell we needed.
“Scott,” Liam whispered.
We were standing by a grate as I looked around.
“Do you hear that?”
“I heard that,” Lydia said. “Em?”
I shook my head. “No.”
“Emma, save your voice,” Scott said. More like demanded.
Liam stepped forward a couple steps, water splashing a little bit at his feet.
I heard what sounded like electricity. “I hear it now.”
“Em, Lydia, get out of the water!” Liam said, pushing Lydia out of the water… who pushed me out of the water.
Just as soon as Lydia and I touched the wall and pressed ourselves against it, Liam and Scott got electrocuted by the water, both of them going down to the ground and screaming.
Lydia started guiding me away from them before we came face to face with Theo, who grabbed my arms. “Sorry, Emma,” he said. I gave him a confused look before he placed a kiss on my forehead, turned us both and pushed me over Scott and Liam and into a hole. Thankfully, Scott reached forward and grabbed my right wrist before I could fall the whole way down.
I reached up and grabbed his arm with my left hand, holding on for dear life… literally. “Don’t let go, please, don’t let go,” I whimpered.
“Save your voice. Em, save your voice,” he said.
I watched as Theo knelt by Scott, digging his claws into Scotts side. I gasped as Scott groaned at being stabbed.
“Feel that, Scott?” Theo asked.
Scott gasped as I let out a breath.
“Kanima venom,” Theo said, listening to Scott’s breathing. “Just let it happen. Let it go.”
Scott’s grip on my wrist started to loosen, so I let out a small scream, shaking my head.
“Let everything go.”
“No!” Scott groaned, both of us letting go of each other as I fell the rest of the way, screaming as best I could. I felt a pain on the left side of my chest, feeling the area. Nothing was there. I got up from my fall, feeling around the walls to watch where I was going in this dark area.
I felt a door handle and tried to slide the door open, but to no avail. I reached up and placed my hand on the gauze. I looked around the area that was dimly lit, realizing that Lydia wasn’t near me. I guess Theo didn’t do anything to her like he did me. I guess she was still with Scott and Liam.
I turned back to the door, grabbing the handle and trying my best to yank the bitch open. Still didn’t work. I strained and pulled at the door, but it still wouldn’t open.
Something coming through the side of the door caught my attention. I smiled a little at recognizing the katana. I heard her sword clanking against the door before I moved from it before it fell. I looked up at the source and smiled.
“Sorry I’m late,” Kira said.
I ran up to her, giving her a hug, Lydia coming up next to us. We engaged in a small group hug before we parted. I gave Kira questioning eyes, her nodding her head. “I’ll explain everything later.”
We started running towards where we thought Scott and Liam would be. Stopping at hearing Sebastien’s voice, I looked at Lydia who nodded at me. I looked back over at Sebastien.
“Mason,” I said, to which Sebastien looked over at me and started walking towards us.
“I think you’re gonna need to try it a little louder,” Kira said.
I sighed and looked at Lydia, who nodded her head again. Sebastien’s eyes glowed white as Lydia put her hands on my shoulders.
Sebastien transformed into the Beast, Lydia and I yelling, “MASON!”
It was weird because you could see the power of our voices together, almost like a soundwave going towards the Beast, knocking him down to the ground before essentially exploding into black smoke.
I gasped, seeing Mason running out of the smoke and right into Corey’s arms. Wait, Corey was here? He’s gotta stop doing that invisible mess. I smiled at seeing Mason again, but something else caught my eye.
What was left of the Beast, screaming as it floated through the tunnels around us, Parrish catching it, yelling out for Scott.
Said Alpha jumped forward, grabbing the pike off the ground and hurling it towards Parrish and the Beast, said pike impaling the Beast.
The Beast vanished in Parrish’s arms, his flames dying out and looking at us.
I ran up to Scott, engulfing him in a hug, which he returned.
“Is everyone okay?” Scott asked.
“Not everyone,” Theo sneered from behind us.
I looked to my right, seeing Theo standing with electricity crackling all over him. Scott growled and moved me behind him.
Kira jumped in front of us, twirling her sword around and sending the electricity that Theo tried throwing at us right back at him, her eyes glowing Orange. “The Skinwalkers have a message for you, Theo.”
Theo stopped his crackling, looking absolutely terrified.
“Your sister wants to see you.” Kira stabbed her katana in the ground, cracking the concrete all the way to Theo, a hole forming before him. A hand popped out from the hole, scaring the life out of me. I put my hand on Scott’s shoulder, seeing what I guessed to be Theo’s sister crawling out of the hole.
“Remind me to never watch The Ring with Stiles ever again,” I whispered in Scott’s ear, to which he nodded.
Theo’s sister grabbed his ankle, twisted him and started dragging him into the hole with her. “Scott, help me!” Theo screamed. “No! No! Scott, help me! Scott! No! Scott! Help me!”
His sister was relentless as she pulled him in the hole, not caring that he was crying for help. After they were both back in the hole, the concrete went back to normal; no cracks, nothing, it was like nothing even happened.
~~~
I took Scott and Liam to the clinic, feeling that Hayden was there. Since she was a new pack member because of her relationship with Liam, I could now feel her presence. Same with Mason. I knew that Hayden was at the clinic, anyway, because she texted me, letting me know that she was there.
I went to the station, surprising my parents, who were worried sick about me… as they should. They carefully wrapped me in their different hugs, careful to avoid my neck.
Dad pointed to Sheriff’s office, letting me know that Sheriff wanted to see me. I turned and locked eyes with my godfather, running into his office and giving him my own hug.
Sneakers squeaking on the floor let me know that Stiles was here… well, I already knew. I felt him coming into the building.
I turned and smiled at him, running the few feet to him. I jumped in his arms, careful not to damage my neck anymore. “We did it,” I whispered. I pulled back and looked him in the eyes. “We saved Mason.” I smiled as he let out a breath.
We both walked into the office, sitting down on the couch. We watched as Sheriff packed some stuff away in a box.
“You both saved their lives,” Sheriff said.
I wrapped my arms around Stiles’ right one, resting my chin on his shoulder, smiling.
“Mason. Malia. Half the population of Beacon Hills,” Sheriff continued. “That’s gotta feel pretty good.”
Stiles turned his head, lightly pressing his lips to my forehead. He sighed as he turned his head back to look at his dad. I rested the side of my head on his shoulder, feeling him rest his head on mine. “It did. For a while.”
“But it’s something you want to feel again,” Sheriff said.
“Yeah,” Stiles said. “Yeah, I think so.”
“Welcome to your future career in law enforcement,” Sheriff said, Dad joining in.
We lifted our heads up, me turning to look at my dad.
I turned my head back to look at Stiles, him doing the same as I said, “Deputy Stiles Stilinski. Got a nice ring to it.”
“So does Attorney Emma Thomas,” Stiles said.
I smiled at him, putting my hand on his cheek, leaning forward to press my lips on his.
~~~
Stiles and I left for school, not really wanting to be here. We just wanted to skip today, spend some time together at home.
Right before our class ended, I got a text from Scott, saying that Kira was with the Skinwalkers, and that she’d be back whenever she’d figure out how to not let the Fox take control.
“She’ll be back. She still has to graduate,” I said, lacing mine and Stiles’ fingers together as we walked down the hall.
“That’s the thing, baby, I don’t know,” he said. “When we started this school year, I was so stressed about everyone ending up in the same place after we graduate.”
“I know. I was there,” I sassed.
He sighed. “But I don’t think it matters. We always seem to find each other anyway. Even Allison.”
I stopped walking, tugging on his hand as he kept walking. He turned around, facing me.
“He didn’t tell you,” he said.
“I would know if he did, but he didn’t.”
“It was in the tunnels. When Sebastien had his hands around Scott’s throat. The guy probably didn’t even know what he was doing. His claws got into Scott’s neck. He was going to kill him, but then he stopped and he said a name… Marie-Jeanne.”
“He saw Scotty’s memories,” I said.
“He saw Allison,” Stiles whispered.
“They must’ve looked like each other. I mean, maybe exactly like each other.”
“It gave Scott a chance to break free. She saved him. Allison saved his life.”
I smiled and started walking with him towards the library, finding the table that Scott set his stuff down at.
Lydia sat down next to me as I sat across from Stiles, who was sitting next to his best friend.
I watched as Scott came down the steps, and patted Stiles on the shoulder as he sat down in front of Lydia.
I looked at my boyfriend and best friends, wondering where life would take us. We had a few more months of Senior year left, but that didn’t stop me from wondering. These next few months were going to be some of the best of our lives.
I could feel it.

You know what’s boring? Doing homework with no music in the background.
You know what’s even more boring? Watching two werewolves practice lacrosse.
I watched as Scott scooped up a ball, then turned to face behind him.
“Did you feel that?” Scott asked.
“Are you asking the werewolf or the banshee?” I asked, taking a small break from homework to look over the plays of the next lacrosse game.
“Werewolf.”
“Then no.”
“Feel what?” Liam asked, twisting his stick in his hands.
Scott turned back to face Liam. “Thought I heard something.” He looked behind him again for a moment before turning back around. “Forget it. Alright, let’s keep going,” he said before tossing the ball to Liam… who easily caught it.
“Or we could call it,” Liam said.
“We gotta work on your back shots,” Scott countered.
“His back shots?” I asked, incredulously.
“Yeah, why?” Liam asked.
“Liam, they suck,” Scott said.
“What are you talking about?” Liam and I asked.
“Your back shots… which suck. You should know this, Em. You’re the Assistant Coach.”
“Uhm…” I said. “Do your back shot, Liam. Make the Alpha happy.”
Liam scooped up a ball and shot it over his back, the ball landing in the net… about six different times.
“Are you sure it’s not your back shots that need work, Scotty?” I asked.
He looked at me like he was confused. “I must’ve been thinking about someone else.”
I nodded my head, lips pulled into a knot. “Yeah, probably.”
“Maybe someone else who should be Captain?” Liam said, tossing a ball to Scott.
“We’ll make it,” the Alpha said.
The lights in the stadium turned off, sending me into a small happy dance from my place in the grass.
“Well, guess we have to go now,” Liam said.
“Thank the good Lord above! My ass hurts from sitting for so long,” I sassed, standing up.
Scott looked at me, a small grin on his face… which made me groan in protest.
“No, we don’t,” Scott said.
“Oh, Scotty, no!” I whined, stomping my foot once.
He flashed his Alpha Reds, which made Liam’s Beta Golds shine… where’s my Banshee Greens, you ask? Right here.
They continued to play for a couple of more hours before I called it a night. “Alright, my two favorite werewolves, I’m gonna call it a night. Bobby’s coming over for dinner… or did come over for dinner. Please, for all that is good and awesome in this world, don’t stay here too late.”
Scott chuckled. “Alright, Em. We promise.”
“One more hour. Tops,” Liam said.
“Good! I don’t wanna have to bench you two because you can’t stay awake in class,” I said, giving them a chuckle. “I’ll see you later.”
As I was walking back through the halls, I found my uncle… bitching at the kids who stayed super late for their extra credit assignment.
“Your teenage years are not the time for academic achievement,” Coach said.
“Yes, they are,” Mason said.
“That’s a lie sold to you by the government,” Coach countered, finger pointed at Mason. “Go find some girls, get into trouble. Live a little.”
I rushed over at the word girls. “Uh, Coach, they’re gay.”
Coach looked at me. “Even better,” he said, looking back at Mason and Corey. “Go gays! Now get out of my face! I don’t get paid to lock up after you losers.”
“Yes, you do,” Mason said.
“Get out of here! Go wreak some havoc like the other kids,” Coach said, closing the doors and turning around to face me with his fist in the air… before putting it down to point at me. “And you! You know how upset your mother is that you didn’t show up for dinner?” “You knew I was here with Scott and Liam. They’re out at the field practicing right now,” I said, pointing behind me in whatever direction.
“What were you doing out there?”
“Being Assistant Coach and looking over the plays for the next game… and providing.. moral support?”
He nodded a couple times. “My office. Tomorrow morning. With breakfast.”
“Waffles?”
He looked like he was thinking about it. “Sure.” He leaned forward, placing a kiss to my forehead. “Now, go home and get some sleep.”
“Alright. Love you, Bobby!”
“Yeah, yeah. Love you, too.”
~~~
Well, my idea of getting in my Jeep to drive away from this school and going home sounded like a great idea until I got a call from Corey, telling me to get back inside the school immediately.
I walked in the doors with Scott and Liam, who found me and told me that something was happening to Mason. As soon as we rounded the corner in the library, said boy was about to bash our heads in with a fire extinguisher.
“Mason, it’s us!” I yelled.
“They were here. The Ghost Riders,” Mason said, putting his object down.
I looked over at Corey and pulled him into a bone crushing hug before pulling away to look at Mason.
“Here? Just now?” Scott asked.
“I thought they left when the storm left,” Liam said.
“I guess not, because two of them were right up there,” Mason said, pointing to a couple of spots where the Ghost Riders were spotted.
“What were they doing?” Scott asked.
“We didn’t see when they came in. We only saw them when we turned invisible.”
I looked at Corey right as Liam started speaking. “You brought him into this?”
“He was trying to protect me,” Mason said, getting in between Corey, myself and Liam.
Corey looked at me. “They didn’t seem to care about us. They-- they walked right by us.”
“You’re very lucky. What happened after?” I asked, crossing my arms.
We all looked between Corey and Mason, waiting for an explanation.
“Uh-- then they just jumped down and left,” Mason said.
Scott looked up at the second story, my eyes stayed on my cousin and his boyfriend to make sure they were alright.
“That’s it?” Liam asked.
Mason and Corey looked at each other. “Yeah,” Corey said.
“They didn’t take someone?” I asked.
“There was nobody else in here?” Scott added, coming up to stand behind me.
Mason and Corey looked at each other again, then back at us. “No. It-- It was just us.”
~~~
After finally making it home, I showered and dried my hair, dressed for bed and crawled in. I was fast asleep in seconds, a new personal record.
It wasn’t until about 1:30 in the morning when I woke up to the strangest sound ever. A male’s voice asking, “Do you see him?”
A loud thud sounded after that, causing me to sit straight up in my bed. I heard a train outside my window along with the wheels screeching on the tracks. I looked around, seeing an orange yellow light shining through my windows, the noise itself causing me a little discomfort.
It wasn’t until I saw my mom walking through my bedroom door all frantic a few moments later.
“Emma, what’s wrong?” she asked.
“Did you hear that?” I asked.
“I heard you screaming.”
“No,” I said, swallowing hard. “It-- it-- it was the sound… of a train… passing through my room.”
She walked over to my bed and sat on the edge of it. “Oh, sweetheart, you were having a nightmare.”
“No, I wasn’t,” I said, as she reached over and grabbed my hand. “It wasn’t a--”
“Well, there wasn’t a train and we haven’t had an earthquake, so--,” Mom said, sighing. “It must’ve been a bad dream.” She stood up and pushed some of my hair back, placing a kiss on my hairline. “Go back to sleep, honey. I’ll see you in the morning.” With that, she turned and walked out of my room, taking one last look at me before closing my door.
“But I wasn’t asleep,” I muttered to myself.
I sighed and pushed my hair back with my hands before placing my hands back on my bed. I looked at the picture that was sitting on my dresser in a beautiful frame.
I tilted my head to the side, eyebrows scrunched together as I got up out of bed and walked over to my dresser. I picked up the frame and looked down at the picture.
“What?” I mumbled. What confused me about the picture was my arm was in the air with my hand hanging there, as well. I was kissing the air for no apparent reason.
I decided to call Scott to see what he thought about the photo since we all got one printed.
“Em?” Scott greeted.
“Are you looking at the same picture I am?” I said.
“Yeah, the one of all of us?”
“That’s the one. Look at it. Why am I holding onto nothing?”
Scott went silent. “I don’t know.”
“I sense an investigation in our midst.”
~~~
I ended up going back to sleep after having a small talk with Scott. So, I did what any sensible Senior would do; I got up and got ready for my day then headed off to school. I met Lydia in the parking lot, as she had just gotten out of her car as I had parked mine. We walked in the school together and I noticed that everyone seemed to be doing just fine.
I saw a girl dressed how I would and a boy dressed in a plaid shirt, and oddly enough, looking at the plaid made me feel all warm and safe inside, and I couldn’t tell you why.
I told Lydia that I would meet her after class as I stood by a locker. I tried to open it, but I couldn’t get the combination right for some reason and I was starting to grow frustrated. I turned around and leaned against the lockers, wondering why the locker number 1075 felt so much like home to me.
When I finally realized that I needed to be on the practice field for the lacrosse team, I rushed over out of the locker hall and straight to the field, spotting Liam doing the same.
“That is Captain material,” Coach said, standing next to Scott… who wasn’t playing.
“You’re late,” Coach and Scott said.
I looked between them and Liam, finally setting my sights on Liam and crossing my arms. “Yeah, Dunbar. You’re late. Which makes you not Captain material.”
“You’re not out of the clear yet, missy,” Coach said.
“I know, I’m sorry,” I said, shame filling my voice as I uncrossed my arms and dropped my head.
“Liam is Captain material,” Scott said. He started to say something else about Liam, but Coach decided that he’d heard enough and blew his whistle.
“Let’s go. Gather around, listen up,” Coach said. “Thanks to McCall’s selfish desire to focus on his grades and his graduation, we are leaderless. You want to be a champion, you wanna be a hero? Now’s your shot.”
“Alright, boys. Line up,” I said, clapping my hands. They all just stood there. “Assistant Coach, let’s go!” At that, they all lined up in two rows… facing Liam… who was at the end.
“Emma, take charge,” Coach said.
I sighed, rolled my eyes and looked out at our players. “Alright, all you wannabe Captains, I wanna see you tear each other apart.” I put the whistle between my teeth, saying, “Let’s go!” before blowing the whistle to start the play.
Liam ran and dodged a player before being crowbarred to the ground.
“Definitely not Captain material there, Dumb-bar,” Coach said.
“Dunbar,” I corrected, leaning over to Coach.
“That’s what I said.”
“No, it’s not-- you know what, nevermind.”
Liam turned his head to face us. “He said Dumb-bar.”
“And your mouth just bought you equipment duty,” Coach said, kneeling to get closer to Liam.
Scott and I looked at each other like is he for real.
Liam took off his helmet and ran off the field.
“Bobby, Bobby, Bobby,” I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose.
After practice was over, Scott and I sat in the locker room, waiting for Liam to return with the equipment the other players left out. Liam set the bags down against the wall near Coach’s office, turning to look at me and Scott, who was tying up his boots.
“I blew it, didn’t I?” Liam asked.
Scott sat up and sighed, resting his elbows on his knees. “You blew it off.”
“You’d have to be trying in order to blow it,” I said, coping Scott’s movements, but lacing my fingers.
Liam sighed and looked around for a moment. “Maybe someone else can be Captain. With schoolwork and all the other stuff we have to deal with--”
I shifted on the bench to face Liam and Scott more. “Devenford Prep started practice three weeks before us. Riverside two weeks. We’re behind before we even start. Half our team can’t even cradle the ball, let alone score.”
Scott and I stood up, Liam looking directly at Scott.
“Why can’t you stay Captain?” Liam asked Scott.
“I’m graduating. Ya’know, I’m not-- we’re not gonna be here next year,” Scott said, taking a couple steps towards Liam. “Somebody’s gotta step up and fill in the gap. It should be you.”
“Yeah?” Liam asked, then looked at me. “Well, Coach doesn’t want me.”
“Liam,” I said, Gentle Emma working her way out.
“I don’t know if the team wants me.”
“It’s not up to them! It’s up to you!” I said, taking the few steps towards the werewolves. Aggressive Emma is out now. “You have to want this… because they’re gonna keep coming at you. They’re gonna keep knocking you down. And you have to get back up. You have to show them that you can get back up.” I looked over at Scott then back at Liam. “Leaders don’t run.”
At the sound of clapping, we all turned our attention to the source. Coach.
“Now, that’s what I’m talking about, McCall,” Coach said.
“But Coach, that was all Emma, not me,” Scott said.
“Doesn’t matter. That’s exactly the intensity this team needs. And you,” Coach said, looking from Scott to Liam. “I’m looking forward to crushing that little adorable baby face of yours.” Chuckling, he turned around and went back into his office, closing the door behind him.
Liam turned and faced me and Scott, looking at me like I had some sort of explanation.
I sighed, “It's a curse being related to that man sometimes. I gotta get to class.” I hugged each werewolf before walking out of the locker room and straight to my class, which had Lydia and Malia in it.
Lydia and I walked in at the same time, with the same looks on our faces. We sat down in our respective seats, Mrs. Fleming getting started right away.
“I’m impressed… with most of you,” Mrs. Fleming said, standing from her desk. “Really speaks to your study habits and your commitment to your own education. Everyone else, see me for extra help.” She placed Malia’s paper down on her desk, a red D- on the front.
I noticed Malia gripping the desk, claws out. I reached over and tapped Lydia on the arm after getting my paper back from Mrs. Fleming. “Lyds,” I whispered. “Malia’s claws are out.”
Malia turned to look at Mrs. Fleming, Lydia taking action. “Mrs. Fleming, uhm--”
“I already told you, Lydia, as well as Emma, I don’t give extra credit on alternate equations based on your own theoretical findings,” Mrs. Fleming said.
“Well, okay then,” Lydia said, turning back to face the front. “Claws. Malia. Malia, claws.”
She loosened her grip on the desk, her claws put away, and I let out the breath I wasn’t aware I was holding.
For some reason, I got this overwhelming feeling about the locker I tried to open this morning. So, I grabbed my bag, put my paper into it and stood up. “Uhm, Mrs. Fleming--”
“Yes, Emma. You can come get today’s assignment and go visit your dad,” she said.
I opened and closed my mouth like a fish out of water before nodding and walking up to her desk, grabbing said assignment and walking out into the hallway. I spotted Scott standing at the locker, just looking at it.
“Got a weird feeling about it, too?” I asked.
He nodded. “Yeah.” He put his hand on it, trying to get a feel for it, but ended up taking his hand off and started to walk away.
I, on the other hand, put my own hand on it, seeing if my Banshee senses would tingle… and to my surprise, a little something.
“Remember the ring,” that same male voice said. I took my hand off the locker and reached under my shirt, pulling out said ring.
Scott walked back over. “What’s that? How long have you had that?”
“It’s Claudia’s. She gave it to me at the start of the year. Said it meant so much to her that she wanted me to have it,” I said. “But this guy's voice just told me to remember the ring.”
“But what’s so special about it?”
I sighed and looked down at the ring. “It was her engagement ring.”
“Looks more like a promise ring to me.”
I had a flashback moment to the point where I received this ring. I couldn’t put a face to the person that slid it onto my finger, but all I knew in that moment as I squeezed the ring in my hand was that I loved this ring with everything that I had. “I gotta get back to class. I’ll catch you later.”
Scott nodded and headed off in the direction of his class.
I was walking down the hallway towards my classroom when I stopped dead in my tracks, seeing an older gentleman with a newspaper standing at the end of the hall. I looked around the hallway and behind me before looking back at the gentleman and walking more towards him.
“Excuse me, who are you?” I asked him. He didn’t answer, just stayed looking at his newspaper. “What are you doing at this school? Are you a teacher? Part of the front office faculty? Hall monitor that never left?”
Still no answer. I sighed and slapped my hand against my leg, frustrated. I looked back at the gentleman, ready to give him a piece of my mind when he looked up from his newspaper. He opened his mouth like he was gonna say something, but all that came out was the same sounds that I heard last night; a train rattling and the wheels screeching on the tracks.
I covered my ears at the sound, squeezing my eyes shut tightly. I opened them again, looking all around me, gasping in the air that I had held during the sounds.
“Holy shit,” I whispered to myself.
~~~
I decided that I was going to check myself out instead of just walking out of school today. When I got to the front office, however, I saw my cousin and his boyfriend standing at the front desk.
“Werewolf stuff,” I heard Mason say.
I quickly made my way over to Mason, Corey and Mrs. Martin. “What are you talking about?” I asked, leaning against the desk next to Corey.
Mrs. Martin sighed and took off her glasses. “I thought I made it clear that Beacon Hills High School is a dedicated safe place. I had to convince 23 students that what they saw in the library last semester was a large bear and the fangs on Scott McCall were the result of acute Teenage Hallucination Syndrome.”
“What is Teenage Hallucination Syndrome?” Corey asked. Bless this innocent werechameleon.
“I have no idea,” Mrs. Martin said.
“But we think someone could be missing,” Mason said. “And they could be in danger.”
“Well, I can assure you that nobody has reported a student missing,” she said, looking at the absentee list. “And all absentees are accounted for.” She started guiding them out of the office. “Gentlemen, I appreciate your concern and I thank you for your vigilance. Remember, safe space. Now, go back to class.”
“We don’t have class,” Mason said.
I facepalmed at his response.
“Then go back to something. Anything.”
She closed the door and walked over to me. “Emma, what can I do for you?”
“I need to check myself out… if that’s at all possible,” I said.
“You’re not 18 yet,” she said.
I groaned. “Mrs. Martin, come on. You’ve known me since like 7th grade. Have I ever been called out of class? Have I ever not come to school sick? I literally have perfect attendance.”
She leveled me with a look.
“Okay, fine, maybe that’s down the drain, but look. I just need a day. I need to see my dad or my mom or my boy--” I stopped my words, wanting to say that I had a boyfriend… when I didn’t. “Forget it. I’ll just stay here and drown in boredom. I know almost all the material anyway.”
I walked out of the office and down the hall a little, seeing the same guy from earlier with his newspaper walking down the hall. I decided to follow him, basically chasing after him. I ran out of the double doors at the end of the hall, finding myself in the same spot I was in a couple of nights ago when Dad and Sheriff were here because of the body that got called in. I looked around, confused as to how I actually got here, but fear ended up taking over for a moment.
“You know me. Oh, thank God, you know me,” that same male voice said.
I looked around everywhere, the wind kicking the leaves up.
“Do you see him?”
I looked at the tree beside me before I found my arms up in the air as if they were wrapped around someone’s neck before they moved down to where their arms would be. I also felt hands on my cheeks, so loving.
“Do you see him? Alright, come on, come on!”
I felt myself being dragged away, running down the sidewalk.
“This way. Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop! This way, this way.”
I turned to look behind me, hearing horses whinnying. “Where are they?” I yelled.
“Everywhere! Will you forget me?”
I turned to look off the side. “I won’t-- I won’t!” I ran out into the street, not thinking.
“Emma, look out!”
I was pulled back from getting hit by a car… at my own fault. I looked back at who my savior was, hoping it was the male I kept hearing, but alas. It wasn’t. It was Malia.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes for a moment. “I’m fine.”
I watched the last bit of her nod after I opened my eyes.
“What were you doing?” she asked.
Tears lined my eyes as I looked at her. “Trying to remember.” I shook my head and walked around her, going back inside the school.
What I didn’t expect to see was Scott standing at that locker trying to look into the vents with the flashlight on his phone.
“Scotty? What’cha doing?” I asked, clasping my hands behind my back.
“Trying to find a way into this locker.”
I hummed. “Have you tried the combination?”
He looked at me as I raised a brow. “No.”
“Do you know it?”
“Do you?”
I looked down in shame. “No.” I picked my head up and watched as he looked around before he grabbed the lock, fully prepared to break the bitch off.
“Ohhhh, good idea,” I said, bringing my hands in front of me and rubbing them together.
“You’re too eager.”
“Look, this is the first normal thing that’s happened in like two days, alright?”
He went back to the lock, starting his pull on it, but before it could actually break, a voice sounded behind us.
“What’cha doing?”
We turned around, seeing the new, good looking teacher, Mr. Douglas. Did I mention that he was good looking?
Scott looked from me back to the locker. “Uh, nothing. Just checking out this locker.” He pulled on it, checking it out… as he stated.
“Is it either of yours?” Douglas asked.
I chuckled. “Ya’know. It’s the funniest thing.”
“You wanna explain it to me?”
My chuckles turned to one of nerves before I sighed. “Not really. About the locker.”
Douglas hummed. “I’m relatively new here, but I’m pretty sure breaking into someone else’s locker is against the rules.”
Scott and I gave nervous chuckles. “We’re not breaking into someone else’s locker.”
“Miss Thomas, what does this look like to you?” Douglas asked.
I smiled at him sweetly… like every other girl at this school. “Like we’re breaking into someone else’s locker.”
“Yeah… uh… I think we’ll go to class now,” Scott said, putting his arm around my shoulders. He started guiding me to the doors at the end of the hall.
“Yeah, probably a good idea,” Douglas agreed.
~~~
During our free period, Scott wanted me to come to Deaton’s with him, so being the good friend that I am, I went with him… since we both have the same thing to talk to him about.
Once we got to the clinic, Scott handed Deaton the piece of blue glass from the magic bullet.
“We keep having these feelings like there’s something missing. Holes in our memories,” Scott said. “Like this. I took that from a windshield from the Sheriff’s Impound Lot but I can’t remember why I was there.”
“Yeah, I was there, as well, and I can’t figure out why,” I added.
“The subconscious can be a conduit for our memories,” Deaton said. “Dreams and waking dreams can be powerful tools to help us remember.”
I sighed. “Do you think this is all connected? The Ghost Riders, the Wild Hunt, the holes?”
“The Wild Hunt are drawn to war and mayhem. I’ve never heard of it doing anything to anyone’s memory.” Deaton handed Scott the medical equipment that the windshield piece was on. “It’s almost like you have a form of Phantom Limb Syndrome.”
Scott looked at me, waiting for me to explain further.
I sighed. “It’s common in war. Amputees can have the sensation of an itch they can’t scratch or a pain that couldn’t possibly be there. The missing limb is so important that the brain acts like it’s still there.”
“So, our subconscious is trying to tell us what’s missing?” Scott asked, looking from me to Deaton.
“It may be,” Deaton said.
“How the hell do we figure out what it’s saying?” I asked, resting my elbows on the table and placing my face in my hands.
“Well, Emma, the easiest way to do that would be to simply go to sleep.”
~~~
After taking Scott back to the school to get his bike, I drove myself home, had dinner with my parents then went upstairs to get ready for bed.
I looked at the picture frame on my nightstand, seeing a strange photo of myself sitting in the frame. What was in the frame was me looking at the air beside me, my arm in the air behind me, smiling. It also seems like I had my head resting against something… or someone.
I shook my head and decided to just crawl into bed, forgoing the reading.
I fell asleep in no time after cuddling with my favorite pillow… which I don’t remember how I got. I couldn’t have been asleep for more than an hour before I got a call from Scott, telling me to meet him in the Preserve.
As quietly as I could, I snuck out of the house, knowing I’ve done this before, but not remembering who with. I got in my Jeep, carefully shutting the door before starting it up and peeling out of the driveway.
Once I got to the Preserve, I started walking towards the spot where I was hearing voices.
“Where’s Emma?” Malia asked.
“Right here,” I said, yawning.
“Hey,” Scott said, walking over to me to give me a flashlight and a hug.
“Hey, Scotty. So, why are we out here in the middle of the night?” I asked, rubbing my arm, not really feeling super safe after my adventures five years ago.
“So, I went to bed at home and I woke up out in the woods,” he explained. “About a mile out. I think there’s a reason why this has happened.” He looked at me. “We’ve been out here before. It was the beginning of Sophomore year the night before tryouts for First Line. I remember because it was all I could think about.” He started walking out in the woods, arm around my shoulders.
Don’t get me wrong, I felt safe with Scott, but… not as safe as I should’ve felt.
“I remember,” I said. “I was out here with you.”
“What were you two doing?” Malia asked.
“Looking for a dead body.”
We walked in silence for a second before Lydia said, “That’s morbid.”
“So then, what were we doing out here all alone?” Scott asked, squeezing my shoulders.
“I wish I could help you, but Emma and I were on the outs then, and I didn’t know you,” Lydia said.
“I was still a coyote so I might’ve tried to eat it,” Malia said.
“Deaton said that our subconscious was trying to tell us something,” I said, shaking my head. “But we need you guys to help us figure out what it’s saying.”
“Maybe you were a curious teenager. You heard there was a body,” Lydia suggested.
“But how? I never watched the news. And I didn’t have a police scanner,” Scott said.
“But I did,” I said, looking up at Scott. “Have a police scanner. In my dad’s cruiser. But you came and got me that night after my dad had already left and my mom was home.”
“Scott, your mom works at the hospital. Maybe she got called in and you overheard her?” Malia suggested as well.
Scott stopped walking and turned us around to face the girls. “My mom wasn’t home that night.”
Scott and I looked at each other. “I live five miles from here. You only live on the other side of the Preserve. How did we get here?”
“You drove,” Malia said.
“We didn’t have vehicles yet,” I said.
“You ran.”
“I couldn’t have. I had asthma,” Scott said.
I had a flashback to that night. “I remember you saying my name after I stood up from where we hid for a moment. But I didn’t stand on my own,” I said, turning around with my thinking. “I was pulled up by my arm.” I started walking, everyone else following.
“Yeah, I remember. We were hiding, but they knew that we were there.”
“Scott, maybe you made a ton of noise with your asthmatic breathing,” Malia said.
“How would they know that it was me?” Scott asked.
“I got caught by my dad and Sheriff, who both knew that you were out here with me,” I said.
“Why would the Sheriff and your dad even think that we would be out here?” Scott asked.
“Because like most deaths in this town, it was related to the supernatural,” Lydia said.
“I wasn’t supernatural. I mean, this was the night that I was bitten.” Scott thought back to the night he was bitten. “I wasn’t a werewolf yet. And we weren’t out here alone.” He sighed. “I know this sounds crazy, but I think we had a best friend, and I think he was out here with us that night.”
“It doesn’t sound crazy,” Malia said. “I know that someone chained me up and I think they wanted me to stay human.”
As Malia spoke, I reached into my shirt, grabbing my ring and holding it tight.
“I came to school this morning and I was so sure I was supposed to meet someone,” I said, Lydia nodding.
“I was pretty sure I was supposed to take you to your locker until that someone arrived,” Lydia said.
“But I couldn’t remember who it was supposed to be,” I added, looking down at nothing. I sighed and squeezed my ring harder, but was careful not to break it. “I have been looking for them all damn day. Whoever it is, I think I loved him. No. I know for a fact that I love him. And I think he gave me this,” I said, showing the girls my ring.
We all looked at each other for confirmation before Scott spoke up. “What if we’re all missing the same person?” Scott pulled out the photo I had printed for all of us, showing it to the girls. “And I think that he was in this picture.”
“Scotty, he was in the picture. He was sitting right there. What the hell else would I be kissing? Air?” I sassed. I sighed and looked at the time on my phone. “As much fun as this has been, I gotta get to the diner and pick up a burger for my dad. Mom’s working late at the office… again.”
“Alright, well, be careful,” Scott said.
“Call me if you can think of anything else or if you need me somewhere else, got it?”
Scott nodded before I walked up to Lydia and gave her a hug. I shocked the hell out of myself and Malia by giving her one as well. After saying my goodbyes, I walked back to my Jeep, getting in and heading to the diner to place my dad’s order.
After receiving his order, I drove straight to the station, to which the front desk officer let me right in… like I’ve done this about a thousand times before, which felt weird, but normal at the same time.
I walked up to my dad’s desk, setting the bag down and placing a hand on the desk and the other on my hip. “Dinner. Take a break from work and eat.”
He chuckled. “You always know exactly what to say to get me to stop working.”
“That’s because I’m your daughter, and you have to do what I say,” I sassed, moving to a leaning seat on the desk.
He opened the bag and smiled at the aroma the burger gave off. “You are my favorite child.”
I chuckled. “Daddy, I’m your only child.”
We both realized what I had said and gave off sad looks.
“Only living child,” I muttered quietly.
“Hey,” Dad said with a mouthful of burger. “That wasn’t your fault. Don’t feel guilty about it.”
“It’s hard not to, Dad,” I said.
My attention was brought to my godmother, Claudia, walking through the station with a bag of her own in hand.
“Dinner for Sheriff?” I asked.
“Well, what I’m gonna try and get him to eat,” she said, looking at the bag.
“Can I see what’s inside the bag?” I asked, taking quick steps over to her.
“Hey, Emma. Why is there--” Dad said.
“Just a second, Daddy,” I said, digging through the bag. I looked back up at Claudia, an unimpressed look on my face. “A salad? Really?”
“What? He needs to start eating healthier. Once you find your person, you’re gonna do everything in your power to try and help him live a super long and happy life,” she said, before turning around and walking into Sheriff’s office.
I rolled my eyes and walked back to my dad’s desk, reaching in the bag. I motioned to Sheriff’s door, full on sass mode. Dad nodded his head in understanding before I put the burger and fries behind my back and walked into his office.
“Emma, what a nice surprise,” Sheriff said, a smile plastered on his face.
“Well, I wouldn’t be a good goddaughter if I didn’t show my face every once in a while,” I said.
“Anyway,” Claudia said. She placed the salad on his desk and looked at me before looking back at Sheriff. “I had a hunch you probably forgot about dinner.”
Sheriff moved the box a little. “Oh, it’s uh-- What, uh-- what, what is quinoa?”
“It’s quinoa. Quinoa and kale.”
Sheriff removed the fork from its plastic wrapper. “Oh, that’s--that’s…” He opened the top of the plastic box. “Well, uh, you’re--you’re always looking out for me.”
Claudia looked at me, while putting her hand on his shoulder. “Well, I want you around for a long, long time.”
I watched with amusement as he took a small bite, not really wanting to. I shook my head as he hummed, walking over to his desk and closing the lid. “I present to you, your delicious dinner,” I said, placing the burger and fries on his desk, garnering a laugh from him.
“And this is why you’re my favorite,” he said.
I pretended to be bashful with a little bit of sass added in. “Well, what can I say?”
Sheriff looked at Claudia. “Happy?”
“Always,” she answered.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that’s my cue to leave,” I said. “I’ll just be-- yeah.” I walked out of the office and back to my dad’s desk. I went to sit back down when I got a text from Scott, telling me to meet him at the clinic.
“Daddy, I gotta go. Scott needs me at the clinic,” I said, putting my phone in my back pocket.
“Alright, sweetheart. Be safe,” he said.
“Always am.” I leaned down and placed a kiss on his cheek before jetting out of the station.
~~~
Arriving at the clinic, I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that when I got there, Lydia was sitting at the table with the windshield piece in front of her hanging by thread and light shining underneath it.
“Anyone care to explain what’s going on?” I asked.
“Well, since you weren’t here, Lydia’s gonna conduct a little experiment for us,” Deaton said.
“Look, I know we’re both Banshee’s, but we’re not lab rats.
Without missing a beat, Lydia said, “I volunteered.”
I looked at her for a moment before chuckling nervously. “Well, nevermind then.”
“Now, she just magically writes down all the answers?” Malia asked.
“It’s not quite that simple,” Deaton said.
“It never is,” Lydia said, getting more comfortable on the stool.
“In automatic writing, the hand moves outside of any conscious awareness,” Deaton explained. “Now, hopefully the silence, the darkness, and the light will allow you to find a more comfortable, relaxed, trance-like state. Lydia, I want you to stare into the light. And let go of all thought.” Deaton looked from Lydia to us, nodding with his head that we should leave the room and give Lydia the quiet she needs.
I watched as Lydia picked up her pen and clicked it, setting the ball on the paper. She looked at the light and got busy focusing before I saw her pen move just a touch.
“I have to warn you,” Deaton said. “We may not be able to access these memories.”
“Why not?” Scott asked.
“The legend has always been that the Wild Hunt takes people. But if what you’re telling me is right, the truth is much worse. They erase people from reality.”
After looking at Lydia scribble on the paper, I looked up at Scott, who was already looking down at me.
“How do we remember someone who has been completely erased from our minds?” I asked.
It was quiet, except for Lydia’s scribbling.
“Maybe he hasn’t been,” Malia said, nodding towards Lydia.
“Oh, is she okay? Should we stop her?” Scott asked.
Deaton put his arm across me and Scott, but I ducked under his arm, walking towards my Banshee friend.
“Lydia? Lydia? Slow down,” I said, soothingly.
Deaton turned off the light and Lydia dropped her pen, breathing heavily. She was still in her trance-like state.
“Is she okay?” Scott asked, leaning down a little closer to her.
I put a hand on her shoulder. “Lyds?”
From the corner of my eye, I saw Malia pick up the paper Lydia was scribbling on. “What does mischief mean?”
“Why does that ring a bell?” I asked no one in particular.
“That’s not what she wrote,” Scott said, after seeing the paper. “Em, come look at this.”
I rounded the table and saw the word that Lydia had scribbled. Warmth immediately fled my body, and I grabbed at my ring again. I’ve been doing this a lot lately.
Lydia gasped and looked up at us. “What the hell is a Stiles?”
If you were to ask me what I’d be doing with my night, I’d be lying if I said laying in bed with Stiles, wrapped up in the sheets, listening to his heartbeat. But alas, that’s not what I’m currently doing. But what I was doing was standing in between Scott and Stiles with my arms crossed, scowl on my face, watching my loving boyfriend get a brace put on two of his fingers. Erratic driving, kids. Don’t do it.
“What in the hell... were you three thinking?” Sheriff asked.
“Don’t put me in that equation. I was dragged into this,” I said, turning to face my godfather.
“We were just trying to help,” Scott said.
Dad chuckled. “Why don’t you try and help us understand…” He lowered his voice to a whisper. “...what the hell happened here?”
“Right, well, we were trying to gently persuade him to pull over…” Stiles said.
“Yeah,” Scott said.
“That’s not exactly how I would put it,” I muttered.
If you think that Scott wolfed out on top of the dude's hood is us gently persuading him to pull over… then you’d be correct… because that’s exactly what happened.
“He was getting away,” Scott said, more as a question than a statement.
“He got away,” Dad and Sheriff said.
“Right. Because obviously he’s some sort of criminal mastermind, Dad,” Stiles said.
Sheriff and Dad moved around us, walking to the back of the van we were… persuading to pull over… well, actually, just the boys. I was just an accessory.
“Uh-huh,” Sheriff said.
“You wanna guess what the stolen merchandise is?” Dad asked.
Sheriff opened the back doors of the van, revealing what looked like tanks. “Hmm?”
My face fell as I looked at the tanks. “Oh, no,” I muttered, putting my thumb and middle finger against my temples.
“Critical life-saving medical equipment?” Stiles asked.
“No,” Sheriff said.
“Poison gas?”
“Nope,” Dad said.
“Filled with drugs?”
Both Sheriff and Dad leaned forward, saying, “Helium.”
“Helium?” Stiles said… more like singsong stuttered.
“Get my daughter home. Now,” Dad said.
“On it,” Scott said.
The three of us walked back to the Jeep, Scott hopping in the driver’s seat, me in the back, and Stiles in the passenger seat.
Scott drove us down the road, silence filling the Jeep for a little bit. “This could be a good thing,” he said.
I watched as Stiles leaned down in his seat a little, bringing his right foot up to rest on the seat. “That we saved helium?” he asked.
I moved from the middle of the seat to over behind Stiles, putting my arms around his shoulders the best I could, resting my chin on his shoulder.
Scott chuckled. “I mean, that--”
“What he means, babe, is that… they don’t need us anymore,” I said, tilting my head to the side, getting a good look at the constellation on the left side of his face.
Stiles scoffed at my statement, looking out of his window. “Okay, well, they need us. They just don’t know it.”
“We’re all going off to college soon,” Scott said. We both looked at each other before he nodded at me. I turned my head back to look at Stiles, shifting forward in my seat a little to see him better.
“So Beacon Hills is gonna have to survive without us,” I said, gentleness coming through.
“Beacon Hills will burn to the ground without us,” Stiles said.
“Babe,” I said, putting my hand on his right cheek, guiding his face towards me so I could look into those whiskey eyes. “They don’t need us.”
He turned his face in my hand, kissing my palm. His phone vibrating broke apart our little moment, causing me to scoot back a little for him to retrieve his phone from his pocket.
He jumped forward a little, foot dropping back to the floorboard. He held his phone up, his dad’s name on his phone. “They need us!”
~~~
We get to the station, standing by Sheriff’s office door as he walks up to a little boy sitting in a chair in front of his desk… my dad standing in the office with his best friend.
“Alex, you know we’re having trouble locating your parents,” Sheriff said, kneeling in front of the kid we now know as Alex.
Dad knelt next to Sheriff, telling Alex, “And since you can’t remember anything, we have a method, an unusual method that might help you remember.”
“But we need you to be okay with it,” Sheriff added. “We also need you to know that it’s probably gonna hurt.”
“I don’t care,” Alex said. “I just want to find my mom and dad.”
Sheriff and Dad looked at each other for a moment before looking back over their shoulders at me, Scott and Stiles.
The three of us walked in the office, shutting the door. Dad wrapped his arm around my shoulders, giving me a quick side hug before helping Sheriff close the blinds.
I went back to Stiles’ side, wrapping my arm around the middle of his back. Sheriff and Dad came to stand behind us, observing Scott and Alex.
“You ready?” Scott asked from his squat next to Alex, who nodded his head. Scott put his fingers near the back of Alex’s neck, flicking his claws out, digging them in. Alex’s eyes rolled in the back of his head, letting me know that Scott was successfully seeing Alex’s memories.
After a few minutes of just watching Scott and Alex, the Alpha came out of his trance, standing up and backing into me and Stiles, gasping.
“What’d you see?” Stiles asked.
“I saw a guy… on a horse,” Scott said.
“Horse?” I asked. “Like, neigh, horse?”
Scott looked over at me. “He had a gun.”
“Okay,” Sheriff said. “A guy with a gun. That sounds like our department, not yours.”
“What about his parents? What happened to them?” Stiles asked.
“I don’t know,” Scott said. “That’s all I remember. But… I got this feeling.”
“What kind of feeling?” Sheriff and Dad asked.
“They’re coming back,” Alex said.
I looked over, seeing that his head had fallen forward when Scott retracted his claws.
Alex looked up at us. “They’re coming for me.”
~~~
We called Lydia and Malia to come and help us out. Lydia for me and Malia… well, she could help by sniffing them out.
I was sitting inside of the car, trying to get a premonition while Lydia, who was outside of the car, put her hand on the glass, trying to get the same thing.
Getting nothing, she walked to the passenger side, getting in.
I closed my eyes, continuing to try and get the feeling, but came up short. I opened my eyes, looking at myself in the rearview, Lydia humming.
From the backseat, my loving spazzed out boyfriend popped up. “What?”
“This is a perfect shade for me. Forget the name,” Lydia said, motioning to her eye makeup.
I sighed as Stiles said, “Can we please stay on topic here?”
“Babe, we’re not getting anything,” I said, looking at him through the rearview.
Hearing Malia howling, Lydia got out of the car, clothes in hand. “I don’t think they’re dead,” Lydia said, handing Malia her clothes back.
“They’re dead. Probably torn apart,” Malia said.
“Good way to be optimistic for a kid,” I sassed.
Ignoring me, Malia continued, “The only thing I don’t get is why there’s no blood.”
“They’re not dead,” Lydia said.
“If they were dead, we’d sense it,” I said, motioning back and forth between Lydia and I.
“If they were alive, I’d smell it,” Malia said, putting her shirt back on.
“Yeah, Em, I’m not getting anything either,” Scott said.
“Scott, what are you talking about? You were in his head for four minutes,” Stiles said.
“He timed it,” I added.
“Well, it’s not an exact science,” Scott said. “And he’s a kid. Maybe he’s too freaked out to remember.”
“Why does it matter if they’re dead?” Malia asked. “Dead is dead.”
Stiles leaned against the car behind him, grabbing my hand and pulling me to stand in front of him, his arms wrapping around my waist. “Okay, if it’s just a robbery, we can’t help them.”
“And if it’s supernatural, our dad’s can’t help them,” I added.
“It sounds like the two of you want it to be supernatural,” Lydia said.
“Oh, no. Not me,” I said, pointing to myself then to Stiles with my next words. “Talk to him.”
“It’s been, like, three months since anything’s happened,” Stiles said.
“Yeah, and once a week you drag me and Emma out of bed like we’re some sort of supernatural metal detectors,” Lydia countered.
“Okay, it is way more often than that,” Stiles said. “Y-y-you can’t tell me that you think this is just some series of impossible coincidences?”
“What I’m saying is maybe that wouldn’t be so bad.” Lydia and Malia walked off, the were-coyote hair flipping on the way out.
Stiles had stood up while he and Lydia were arguing, moving to my left to walk after them.
I looked over at Scott, giving him my best help me fix this face as he took a few steps towards us.
Stiles turned around and faced Scott, neither of them saying anything. Stiles sighed and walked to the drivers side of the car, getting in and slamming the door shut.
I sighed, “Scotty.”
“What do you want me to do, Em?”
“Go be his best friend. He needs that right now.”
Scott sighed and hung his head for a moment. “You’re also the one that said they didn’t need us.”
“And now I’m retracting my statement. Scott, you saw something in Alex’s head. You know what happened to his parents, even if you don’t remember at this very moment. You will eventually.” I looked over at Stiles, seeing him either sulking or trying to figure something out. “So, the both of us are gonna walk over to the car, and talk to him. Well, you are. I’ll just stand there and look pretty.” I walked over to the car, resting my elbows on the window sill.
“You’re staring at a broken windshield,” I sing-songed, feeling Scott stand behind me.
Stiles sighed, staring at the windshield. “There’s something wrong with it.”
“It’s broken,” Scott said. “And it wasn’t a magic bullet. It was a regular bullet. That blew out a regular windshield. Just like that one, and that one…”
I looked around at all the windshields Scott was pointing out before looking back to the car we were at. “You wanna rethink that one, Scotty?”
He didn’t pay attention to me, keeping his gaze on the last car, whispering, “...and that one.” He looked back at me and Stiles, finally picking up what I was putting down.
Stiles leaned forward, picking up a piece of the windshield, looking at it intently. “Magic bullet.”
~~~
The next morning, I made sure to get up earlier than normal to get myself ready for picture day. It was my last yearbook photo ever for High School and I wanted to look my absolute best.
I sat down at the stool in front of Sydney, who was standing behind the camera. I smiled my best smile… before my awesome boyfriend came up and ruined it.
“Emma, so…” Stiles said, stopping at the sound of the camera shuttering. He looked at Sydney quickly before looking back at me. “My bad, sorry, go ahead, look pretty.”
I shook my head, putting on my best smile again… getting interrupted again.
“One sec--” Stiles said, looking at Sydney… again.
“That was a good one!” Sydney said.
This went on for three more pictures.
“Stiles!” I said.
“You’re still in the photo,” Sydney said.
“Sorry,” Stiles said.
“You ruined it,” I groaned, pushing him back towards our table. “My last yearbook photo ever, and ya ruined it.”
“Why would I want to ruin your yearbook photo?” Stiles asked.
“Maybe because you haven’t signed up for your own photo yet?” Malia suggested.
“No,” I said, sitting down next to Scott. “I watched him fill out the form.”
“She’s right,” Stiles said, pulling the paper from his back pocket. He unfolded it, showing it to Malia.
“It’s blank!” she said.
Stiles looked at it, a confused look all over his face. “Uh…”
“That can’t be right,” I muttered, taking the paper from his hand. Sure enough, it was blank. I hummed, handing it back to him.
“Or maybe you’re sublimating the stress of graduating by avoiding key milestones,” Scott said.
We all looked at him like he was a little crazy.
“Psych paper.”
I gasped. “Oh, my God!” I smacked Scott on the arm. “Why didn’t you remind me?!”
Scott just chuckled as Stiles put his hands on my shoulders. I leaned back against him.
“Hey, your dad searched the car. No slugs, no exit holes. And the address Alex gave my dad, it’s an abandoned house. Come on! Missing parents, suspicious guy on horseback, magic bullet. Who’s comin’ with?” Stiles said, a little pep in his step.
“I’ve got to retake my photos and start my Psych paper,” I said, looking up at him.
“Yeah, not interested,” Lydia said.
“Yeah, I agree,” Malia said.
“I cannot miss any more classes,” Scott said.
“Scott. Scott,” Stiles said.
“I missed 38 last semester. And Lydia’s mom is the only reason I’m still in school. I can go after school.”
“Yeah, me too, babe,” I said.
“You know what?” Stiles said, taking his hands off my shoulders and taking a step back. I’d be flat on the ground if it weren’t for Scott’s wolf-like reflexes. Get it? Cause he’s a werewolf? Alright, nevermind. Back to Stiles. “Forget it. I’ll take Liam.” He sighed, looking over at Liam… who was with Hayden… locking lips. “Yeah, I’m not taking Liam.”
Scott hummed in agreement as Sydney came walking up, asking, “Hey, can I get a candid?”
“Uh, no,” Stiles said as Scott said, “Yeah, sure.”
Stiles motioned for me to stand up, so I did. He pulled me to sit sideways on his lap as Scott pulled him to sit in between him and Lydia.
“Okay, fine,” Stiles said. He reached in his pocket for the broken piece of the windshield. “If you can explain to me why this is blue, I’ll let it go.”
I looked at the piece of glass along with Scott, noticing that it was indeed blue… well, blueish-green.
“Everyone smile,” Sydney said.
Stiles put his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him as Scott leaned more towards us. I put my arm around Stiles shoulders, putting my hand on the side of his head, kissing his cheek.
After hearing the camera shutter, I looked at Sydney. “Can we get a couple copies? More like 3?”
She smiled. “Yeah, sure, Emma.”
~~~
I decided to go with Scott to ask Mrs. Finch about the piece of glass from the windshield… since Stiles was so adamant about it.
Mrs. Finch held up the glass, stating, “A chemical interaction could cause a tint.”
“What about the muzzle flash of a gun? Could that be blue or green?” I asked.
“A muzzle flash is created by superheated gases leaving a gun. Uhm, it’s possible that the gas could include copper, barium, cesium. Those can burn blue and green.”
“Can that tint the glass?” Scott asked, gesturing to the piece of glass in her hand.
“You think a gun did this?”
“Maybe,” Scott said while I said, “In theory.”
We took that information back to Stiles, who was more than eager to leave the school.
All of us walked down the hallway. Even though I stopped at my locker, I could hear their conversation.
“Thirty-nine?” Stiles asked.
I chuckled and shook my head, opening my locker.
“Thirty-nine,” Scott agreed.
I grabbed the notebooks I needed, closing my locker at the same time they opened the doors at the end of the hall… only to be escorted back in by Mrs. Martin.
“Neither one of you are going anywhere. That goes for you, too, Emma,” Mrs. Martin said.
I scoffed in shock, mouth open. “But I wasn’t--”
“Thirty-eight classes, Scott,” Mrs. Martin continued. “I had to beg the superintendent.”
“Mrs. Martin, Scott is the sworn protector of Beacon Hills,” Stiles said.
“He can protect it at 3:30,” Mrs. Martin countered.
The boys walked by my locker, Stiles with his hand out. I took it as he said to Scott, “We’re not waiting until 3:30.”
Yeah. That didn’t work out to his advantage.
We were currently sitting in our last class of the day, me in my normal spot between each boy. They were both watching the clock while I was doodling in my notebook; the sole reason I stopped at my locker to retrieve it.
I chuckled quietly as Stiles looked over in my direction, giving me a look that said he was fed the hell up with the slow moving hands on the clock.
I was in the middle of a doodle when I heard a woman singing. Scrunching my brows, I picked my head up, looking behind me at Lydia.
“Do you hear it, too?” I mouthed, to which she nodded. I looked back over at Stiles, seeing him tapping his thumb on his desk. He really should take up drumming.
Around 30 minutes had passed by before the bell rang. Scott and Stiles gathered their bags quickly, making their way out into the hallway with the rest of the students… save for me and Lydia.
Once I realized that Lydia was standing at my desk, I closed my notebook and shoved it into my bag, standing up to shoulder my straps. Lydia and I started walking out of the classroom, but I stopped walking when I heard rain pattering.
“Lydia, please tell me you hear the rain, too,” I said, a little bit of fear in my voice.
“Yup,” she said.
I looked at the TV, seeing that the static screen was on as thunder rolled. Lydia and I reached out to touch the screen when a bolt of lightning struck in front of us, sending us flying backwards.
I jolted in my seat, looking down at my notebook, seeing that I had drawn a bolt of lightning on my paper.
“Em,” Lydia said.
I looked up at her, seeing her standing next to my desk. My phone ringing caused me to jump about 5 feet out of my skin. I grabbed it from my backpack, seeing Stiles’ face on my screen. “Yeah?” I answered.
“Where are you?” he asked.
“Still inside. I’ll be out in a minute,” I said, before I hung up. I sighed and stood from my desk, putting my phone in my back pocket.
Lydia and I both went outside, arms locked. Whatever the hell that premonition was, I didn’t want to know the meaning behind it.
I got in the front seat of the Jeep, taking Stiles’ hand once he got the vehicle in the gear he needed.
~~~
After getting to the house, I quickly got out of the Jeep so that Scott could get out. The three of us stood in front of the vehicle, looking at said house.
“Pretty nice,” I said. I tapped Stiles on the shoulder. “Wanna buy it?”
He chuckled and reached back for my hand, looking back at the house and sighing. “It’s not creepy at all.”
Stiles and I looked back at Scott, me handing him a flashlight before I felt a tug on my arm.
Scott was the first to walk in the house, me and Stiles right behind him. Part of me wishes that I hadn’t.
Cobwebs. Cobwebs everywhere. Made me shutter. “Uhm, that’s definitely not creepy at all,” I muttered.
We walked into the house more, the boys shining their lights through the house. Scott shined his light in what I figured was the dining room, a table for two set up.
Said Alpha turned to face Stiles and I. “Wanna split up?”
I grabbed Stiles’ hand a little tighter, wrapping my hand around his arm.
“Uh, absolutely not,” Stiles said.
“See, this is why I love you. You say what I’m thinking,” I said, looking off to my left at the staircase.
We slowly walked towards the staircase, Stiles stepping behind me.
“Just don’t touch anything,” he whispered.
Fun fact about me! I hate spiders. I have a fear of spiders. If there were such a thing as a were-spider, you can watch me catch the next flight to Nopesville.
Anyway. The three of us walked up the stairs, again cobwebs everywhere. Once we made it to the top of the staircase, there were two options; go right or left. We ended up choosing left since that’s where most of the doors up here were.
One of the rooms was completely empty, except for curtains. Looked like either an office area or a guest room.
“Maybe Alex got the address wrong,” Scott said, walking down the hall a little.
Stiles tugged on my arm to get me walking. “Or he lied,” he said.
Being up here gave me the creeps, like a… creepy Banshee vibe. It was weird. “Why would he lie?” I asked.
Another empty room… then another. Looking down at the last door of the hallway, we noticed one that was closed.
“Why is that door closed?” I said in my best Vernon impersonation from The Breakfast Club.
Stiles looked at me like he wasn’t impressed for a moment before he took a few steps towards the bedroom door, Scott and I following. Stiles paused for a moment before reaching forwards and opening the door. He walked into the bedroom first. Again, Scott and I followed behind him. What confused the hell out of me was that the bedroom was fully furnished, fit for a preteen boy.
“He didn’t lie,” Stiles said, looking back at me with his hand out.
“Why didn’t the cops say anything about this?” Scott asked.
Stiles and I looked at each other.
“They don’t know it’s here,” I said, looking back at Scott. “They can’t come here without a warrant, and there’s no owner of record to serve a warrant to.”
“And unless there’s some kind of threat or imminent danger, they wouldn’t come in,” Stiles added.
Scott looked around for a moment before putting on his focusing on his hearing face.
“What?” Stiles and I asked.
“I think I heard something,” Scott said.
“I would hope you heard something. You put on your concentration face when you hear something,” I said, crossing my arms.
Scott leveled me with a look before I raised my hands in surrender. The three of us moved to walk out of the room and into the hallway when Stiles stopped. He looked at pictures of Alex and the empty spaces beside him.
I walked up behind Stiles, putting my hand on his arm. “Looks like he took selfies. Really weird selfies.”
“Yeah, but look at this one,” he said, pointing to a frame on the desk. It was of Alex with his arm up, almost as if he was leaning against someone. The frame had #1 Dad on it.
“He must’ve taken this picture with his father,” I said. I rubbed my hand up and down on Stiles’ arm. “Don’t stress about this too much, handsome.”
“It’s hard not to,” he mumbled.
“Well then. I’ll just have to destress you later tonight,” I whispered into his ear.
He turned his head towards me, placing a kiss on my forehead.
“I’ll be downstairs with Scott, okay? Holler if you need me,” I said, giving his cheek a kiss before walking out of the room.
As soon as I was back downstairs, I noticed that Scott was looking at the table again that was set for two. “Scotty?”
“Em. Come look at this,” he said.
I walked over to him, seeing that there weren't plates and glasses sitting there anymore. He looked at me, the question filling his eyes.
I shook my head, “No. Banshee senses aren’t tingling.”
Scott and I decided to explore a little more before we heard footsteps approaching. We decided, like idiots, to follow the sound… running into Mason and Liam.
“What-what are you doing here?” Liam asked.
“This is Alex’s house,” Scott said.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, crossing my arms.
“This is where the compass led us,” Liam said.
“What compass?” Scott and I asked.
Mason stepped forward, showing us said compass… that was spinning like crazy. I looked over at the staircase upon hearing Alex’s bedroom door closing.
“Why is it doing that?” Scott asked, regaining my attention.
“I have no idea,” Mason said.
Liam pulled out his phone that had a compass on it already, it spinning like crazy as well. “They’re all doing it.”
“That’s strange,” I said. “I wonder why they’re all doing it.”
The glass on Mason’s compass shattered right before I heard thudding. I looked back at the staircase, saying Stiles’ name under my breath before I ran over to them and climbed them to get to my boyfriend.
“Stiles!” I yelled. When I rounded the last corner to the bedrooms, I saw him standing at the end near Alex’s room. “What? What happened?” I asked, rushing over to him and placing my hands on his cheeks quickly before putting them on his shoulders, his own hands coming to my arms.
“He was here. He shot at me,” Stiles said. He looked at Alex’s door then back at us. “It was one of the guys you saw in Alex’s memory.”
“The guy who took his parents?” Mason asked.
“No, no, no. They weren’t just taken,” Stiles said. “They were-- they were made to disappear. That’s why there’s no furniture, that's why they weren’t in any of the photos.”
It was quiet for a moment before it hit me like a bus. “They were erased.”
Stiles locked eyes with me for a moment before he quickly turned around and opened Alex’s bedroom door back up.
“Oh, shit,” I mumbled. What I saw was horrifying.
Alex’s bedroom was completely empty.
~~~
The five of us went back to the school to do research on what’s been happening the past few hours. It was nighttime by the time we were done for the night.
Stiles and I were walking along the sidewalk, him with a book in his hand. “I keep feeling like it’s familiar, ya’know? Like I’ve heard it before,” he said.
“Pensée a civage?” I said. “That’s French. A lingering thought you can’t reach.”
“Okay, well, is there a French word for, feeling an overwhelming sense of urgency and impending doom?”
I chuckled. “Anxiety?”
He looked like he wasn’t amused as my chuckles died down.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
He sighed. “Is your Banshee intuition saying anything about what this is?”
We stopped walking to face each other. “Babe, you don’t have to figure it all out right this second. Yes, it’s one of the things that I love most about you, but I also know how you get when supernatural stuff happens.”
“But this kid, babe. This kid’s got no one,” he countered. “Ya’know, and…” he flipped a page, looking at them. “There’s a reason why. There’s gotta be.”
I looked down at one of the pages, seeing the title The Lost Colony of Roanoke. “That’s a good, spooky story,” I said, pointing to the page.
Stiles sighed and closed the book. As soon as he did, thunder clapped and, oddly enough, I started hearing music. “Give this man a ride, sweet family will die. Killer on the road.”
“Riders on the Storm?” he asked.
“What?” I asked, the music disappearing.
“That’s the song, Riders on the Storm?”
My eyes widened a little as I pointed at him. “That’s it.”
“What’s it?”
“The Ghost Riders, babe. The Wild Hunt. They come by storm, riding horses, and they take people.”
He looked at me like I was the only girl in the world for a moment. “Emma, you’re so smart, I could kiss you right now!”
“Don’t kiss me unless a certain activity is gonna follow.”
“Not gonna, no. Mmm.” He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to my lips before running off, yelling, “Did it anyway!”
“You owe me, Stilinski!” I yelled back at him, following him back inside the school. “Where are we going?”
“To find Scott.”
Our running through the school brought us to Scott, who was leaving the lacrosse field.
“Scott! Scott,” Stiles said, coming up to his side. “Hey. It’s called the Wild Hunt.”
“It’s a myth,” I said.
“Only, apparently it’s real,” Stiles said. “Like every other myth in this town that should just really remain a nightmare.”
“The guy on the horse?” Scott asked.
“Yeah, they call them--” Stiles looked down at me.
“Ghost Riders. They call them Ghost Riders,” I said.
“Ghost Riders,” Stiles repeated. “Hang on a second. Hey, that’s my jersey. Where’d you get that?” he asked a random player passing by.
“Coach gave it to me at practice,” the kid said.
Stiles looked back at Scott. “We had practice?” He turned to face me. “We had practice?”
I raised my hands. “Don’t look at me. I didn’t know.”
“Why doesn’t anyone tell me anything?”
“I love you?”
“Why would the Ghost Riders take Alex’s parents?” Scott asked, getting back on track.
“Scotty, it’s what they do. They take people, okay?” I said.
“They run around collecting souls,” Stiles said. “And once they take you, you’re gone.”
“But it’s not just you, it’s everything about you,” Scott said.
“Yeah, like how they took Alex’s room,” Stiles said, before looking off the side, putting the pieces together.
“Does that mean Alex is next?” Scott asked.
My phone dinged with a text.
Lyds: Come meet me in the Math room. Just you.
“Lydia needs me. I’ll go see what she wants. Call me when you find something out,” I said, leaning up to give Stiles a kiss.
“Alright, beautiful,” he said.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
~~~
What I wasn’t expecting when I got there was to see Malia there as well.
“Hey, I got your text. You wanted me to meet you here?” I said.
“Em, something terrible is going to happen,” Lydia said.
“But I’m sure you already knew that,” Malia mumbled.
I sighed. “Yeah.”
“What is it?” Malia asked.
“I don’t know,” I said.
“That’s why I need your help,” Lydia said.
“Okay, wait a second. I’m here so that Malia can help you figure out what the hell’s gonna happen?” I asked.
“To help us,” Lydia informed.
I nodded my head once. “Gotcha. My bad. Continue.”
My phone started ringing, which caused me to groan in protest. “I’m sorry.” I grabbed my phone from my back pocket. “Hello?”
“Sweetheart? Where are you?” Dad said.
“At the school. Why?”
“I need you to come meet me. I need to see you with my own two eyes.”
I sighed. “Alright. I’m on my way.” I hung my phone up, looking at the girls. “I gotta run. My dad’s freaking out.”
Malia nodded. “Alright.”
~~~
As soon as I ran into the hallway, I crashed right into a body, who steadied me against them.
“Damn it, Stilinski,” I muttered.
“I’ll check the Quad,” Scott said. “Let me know if you find them. And see if your dad knows anything.”
“Hey, Scott, wait,” Stiles said.
Scott turned back around from the start of his run.
“Uhm, I-I just, uh-- I wanted to say, uhm…” Stiles sighed.
“Tell me later,” Scott said, running off again.
“Yeah, alright,” Stiles muttered.
“Find who?” I asked.
“Oh, no.”
“Who are you talking about? Find who?”
“Liam and Hayden,” Stiles said.
“And we’re finding them, why?” I asked.
“Because they might be next.”
Stiles turned around, almost running to Mrs. Martin as she said, “Whoa, whoa whoa!”
“Sorry,” Stiles said.
“Slow it down.”
“Sorry, Mrs. Martin, sorry,” I said.
“It’s quite alright, Emma,” she said.
“Hey, have you seen, uh, Liam and Hayden?” Stiles asked. “Actually, forget that. Have you seen our dads?”
“Who?”
“Our dads. They’re here because of the body?” I said.
She looked at me like she knew who I was, then looked at Stiles like she didn’t. “How do you know about the body?”
“Because my dad’s the Sheriff and her’s is his right hand Deputy,” Stiles said. “Mrs. Martin, are you okay?”
“Uh, just wait here,” she said before walking towards the doors Stiles had just come through.
We shared a look before we darted down the hall, looking for our dads. We weren’t running for very long before I was pulled by someone in another direction. Stiles noticed and his eyes went wide.
“I’ll catch up. Go.”
He dashed back down the hall as I turned and faced my dad.
“Hey, Daddy,” I said before being pulled into a bone crushing hug.
“Thank God you’re alright,” he sighed.
“You’re crushing me, so no. I’m not alright,” I groaned.
He pulled away, keeping his hands on my shoulders.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Your friends found a body in one of the closets,” Dad said.
“Gross,” I said, before realization hit. “Wait. What friends?” “Liam, Hayden and Mason.”
“Which way did they go?”
“Uhm,” Dad said, looking around. “I think they went that way.” He pointed behind him.
My phone dinged again with another text message.
Lyds: Keep Stiles safe and with you. Don’t let him out of your sight.
To Lyds: Why?
Lyds: I know you heard the song. You’re always with him. Keep. Him. Safe.
“Uh, Daddy. I gotta go,” I said, looking from my phone to him. “I gotta go find Stiles.”
Dad looked at me like I was crazy. “Emma. Who’s Stiles?”
“My boyfriend? Your best friend's son? Dad, I--” I said, before realization hit me. “Oh, no. Not Stiles.” I ran around him, now on a wild man hunt to find the love of my life. “STILES!”
Running left and right, I was going around every corner, calling out for him. I finally found him coming out a set of double doors.
“Stiles!” I yelled, wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Emma? You know me. Oh, thank God. You know me,” he said, returning my hug.
“I know you,” I said. I pulled back, looking him in the eyes, my arms still wrapped around his neck. “But I think everyone else is forgetting.”
He looked behind me, the wind picking up. He looked off to his right, spotting something. “Hey, do you see him?” he asked, still looking in that direction.
I turned my head over my shoulder, not seeing anything there but the school, my hands dropping to his arms. “See what?” I asked, fear lacing my voice.
“The guy on the horse,” Stiles said, pointing to what he was seeing.
“Stiles, if you can see them, they’re gonna--” I said, tears already filling my eyes.
“No, I know, I know,” he said, putting his hands on my cheeks. “Okay. They’re comin’ for me. So you have to get away from me right now, okay?”
“Stiles, you’re fucking crazy if you think I’m leaving you,” I said.
He looked at me with all the love in the world. “Alright, come on, come on!” He laced our fingers, turned around and started running. “This way, this way. Come on.”
It was a good thing I was wearing my trusty Converses.
We turned a corner, but stopped at Stiles’ multiple whoa’s. He turned around, saying, “Okay, this way, come on.” before stopping again.
“Where are they?” I asked, looking around at the trees.
“They’re everywhere. Come on, come on. Emma, don’t look at them, okay? Don’t try to scream. They’ll take you, too. Just do not look at them.”
We ran towards the Jeep while Stiles was telling me what not to do before we both got in, me telling him that I wouldn’t. He fumbled with the keys for a second before putting them in the ignition before going absolutely still.
“Babe, what are you doing? We need to go!” I said.
He pulled the keys out of the ignition. “There’s no time.”
“No, there’s time. Just start the damn Jeep!”
“Emma-- Emma!” he said, turning to face me.
I sighed and looked at him, tears lining my eyes.
“Emma, I’m going to be erased, okay? Just like Alex. You’re gonna forget me.”
“I won’t. No, I won’t. I can’t,” I said, voice shaky.
“Beautiful, you will. Just try to find some way to remember me, okay? Remember how you were the first girl that slept in the same bed with me when I saved you in the woods? Remember how you were the first girl I ever danced with? Or how I had a crush on you Freshman year. Sophomore year before we got together? Remember the ring that’s sitting against your heart? Remember how you saved my life?”
“You saved my life, too. On multiple occasions,” I said, earning a small chuckle from both of us.
I reached forward and laced our fingers together, leaning my forehead against his, sighing as tears streamed down my face.
“Just remember…” he whispered. “Remember I love you.”
Before I could press my lips against his, the door opened and he was yanked from my grasp, the door closing again just a second after.
My hand was still hanging in the air, missing his touch so damn much. I sat in the Jeep, looking out at the school in front of me, breathing deeply. “Remember.”
I reached under the collar of my shirt, bringing my promise ring out and holding it. “Remember… Remember.”
~~~
I went home last night and fell asleep in Stiles’ bed with his shirt and a pair of my pajama shorts on, but when I woke up… I was in my room at my parents house.
I got dressed that morning like normal, but it seemed like I was waiting for something… or someone. I sat outside in the driveway, waiting for my ride when my mom came outside in a hurry.
“Emma? Why are you sitting in the driveway?” she asked.
“Waiting for my ride,” I said.
She looked at me a little funny. “You mean, the ride that’s sitting right there, that’s a white Jeep Commander?”
I looked at my Jeep, forcing a chuckle. “That’s the one!” I said.
“Alright, well, why don’t you get your little sassy butt to school?”
I fake saluted. “Aye, aye, Captain.”
Getting into my Jeep, I felt a little off. Almost like it was wrong to be driving myself to school.
When I got there, I parked in my normal spot, at the front of the school. I walked in, seeing Corey and Mason having a conversation, Liam and Hayden in all their couple glory, and everyone else walking and chatting with their friends.
Malia and Lydia walked in my view of my cousin and his friends.
“You okay?” Malia asked.
“Yeah, what’s wrong, honey?” Lydia asked.
“I have this feeling that I was supposed to do something,” I said.
Scott walked up then, asking, “Do what?”
I tilted my head to the side, tears lining my eyes and I grabbed the ring that was around my neck, holding it.
“I can’t remember.”

FIRST PERSON POV
I watched as Theo came back into the room, picking Lydia up and taking her out into the hallway. Corey came back in and wrapped my free arm around his shoulders. “I’m so sorry. For everything. I’ll make it up,” he whispered.
“Let’s not worry about that right now,” I whispered back. “Just help get us out of here.”
He took me into the hallway, Theo grabbing both mine and Lydia’s necks with his claws.
Welp, I found Stiles… well, his presence anyway. Right behind me. Told you he wouldn’t be very far.
Parrish walked down the hallway in his Hellhound form, a growling look on his face.
“Back off,” Theo said. He dug his claws into my neck, and I’m sure Lydia’s, too, causing me to whimper in pain. “I said back off.”
As Parrish stopped, I waved my hand in a go away motion, knowing that Stiles was watching… he didn’t go anywhere.. figures.
“Take him,” Theo said.
“The guy’s on fire,” Corey protested.
“You’ll heal. Do it,” Theo demanded.
Instead of Corey attacking Parrish, it was Tracy. Freaking hothead. She put her venomous claws into Parrish’s stomach… which did nothing but make him slap her.
Josh was the next to move, breaking off a pipe and grabbing the wires it was protecting, then putting his hand on Parrish’s shoulder… which again did nothing. “Theo, this isn’t working!”
Parrish shoved Josh into the wall, causing him to fall to the ground… much like Tracy.
After hearing the trepanation drill, Lydia and I both fell to the floor at Theo’s scream.
“Sorry, Theo. I’m not done with them yet,” Valack said. He picked up both Lydia and I and turned us around, ready to make his departure with us, when I saw Stiles. I smiled a little, sending him all my love and gratitude.
Feeling pain all throughout my body, I groaned in pain at the same time I heard Corey screaming. Since I had clenched my eyes shut, all I could feel was movement… and that movement was me. I opened my eyes just in time to see Corey land against Stiles, both of them going down to the ground.
Valack moved me and Lydia past Stiles and Corey’s direction, where Stiles and I made brief eye contact.
“Stiles!” I yelled.
He had just gotten Corey off of him as we passed them and through a different door. I couldn’t hear much after the door closed other than Stiles yelling, “Hey! Emma!”
~~~
THIRD PERSON POV
At seeing his girlfriend and her best friend being taken, basically against their wills, Stiles pounded on the door, repeating his girlfriend’s name. “Emma! Emma!”
Meanwhile, after taking out four guards, Liam put his hand up to see if the Mountain Ash barrier was still ignited… it was.
Scott pulled a keycard off a guard as well as his walkie talkie, pressing the button to speak into it. “Does anyone have eyes on the Closed Unit? I need a status report.”
“It’s a war zone down here,” a guard replied.
“Uh… 10-4. And what about the patients? Lydia Martin and Emma Thomas?” he said. He knew somewhere in his gut that Emma might’ve been taken because of her Banshee abilities, so he decided to throw her name into the pot.
“Who is this?” Guard asked.
Scott had to think of his feet for this one. “It’s… Unit Nine.”
“There is no Unit Nine. Who is this? How did you get--”
The guard was interrupted by Scott squeezing the walkie talkie and dropping it, letting it break into pieces.
“Alright. We need to figure out another way to get into this Closed Unit,” Scott said.
“How do we get through the Mountain Ash?” Liam asked.
“I don’t know yet. But there’s somebody else here who might be able to help us.”
“Who?”
“Meredith.”
~~~
Stiles was relentless trying to get the door open.
“Let me try,” Theo said. He took a few steps forward, kicking the door down.
Stiles looked at him for a moment before running past Theo and into another set of hallways.
“You’re not gonna find them without me,” Theo said before following Stiles.
~~~
Scott and Liam made their way to Meredith’s cell, opening the door and walking in, Liam closing it behind them.
“Meredith?” Scott said. “Meredith? It’s Scott. Scott McCall.”
Meredith was sitting in a chair facing the wall beside her bed unmoving as Scott and Liam looked at each other. Scott moved his hand forward, turning Meredith’s chair around, both boys looking confused while she was looking almost catatonic.
~~~
Stiles turned a corner down one of the hallways, running as fast as he could to try and get to his girlfriend and their best friend.
“Stiles,” Theo said, catching up to him. “I want them out of here, too.”
All Stiles could do was shake his head at Theo.
“I’ve got their scents.”
“What do you want?” Stiles asked.
“What’s the difference?” Theo asked, eyebrows scrunched.
Stiles made a disapproval hum, not trusting that Theo wanted Emma safe, Lydia as well.
“I can find them. You can’t.”
At the sound of steam bellowing from the window above them, Theo opened the door that was to his left, Stiles following him into the room, which ended up being the shower room. Every male in the room cowered back, afraid that they were gonna hurt them.
Theo eyed a patient and walked towards him, moving him out of the way of a grate. Stiles walked up next to Theo before they both crouched down, looking into one of the entrances of the tunnels.
“It leads to the tunnels, doesn’t it?” Theo asked.
Stiles nodded slightly. “There’s miles of them. They could be anywhere by now.”
~~~
Back with Meredith, Scott walked over to her side, sitting on her bed and holding her hand in his. “Hey, Meredith,” he said. “Can you hear me? We need your help. We’re trying to find Lydia and Emma. We’re trying to get them out of here.”
Liam looked from the windows of the cell back over to Scott. “Scott, I think we better go.”
“Meredith, listen,” Scott continued. “There has to be another way to get to Lydia and Emma. We can’t get past the Mountain Ash. How do we find them?”
Meredith didn’t say anything, just stayed staring into the abyss.
“Scott,” Liam tried again.
Scott looked at Meredith for a few more seconds before he got up and started to walk away, but she grabbed his hand and started pulling it to the back of her neck, asking him to tap into her memories to see for himself.
“I could hurt you,” Scott softly warned. She let go of his fingers once they were near the back of her neck, continuing her silent asking. “Okay,” Scott said. He flicked his claws out, placing the tips on the back of her neck. He quickly glanced at Liam before putting his eyes back on Meredith.
Scott pulled back about three inches from Meredith’s neck before plunging his claws right where he needed, Meredith gasping.
Once Scott was inside of Meredith's brain, he could see himself with his claws in Meredith, and Liam… who he was standing behind.
Next he knew, he was standing at the end of a dark hallway, just opening his eyes. He saw Meredith standing at the other end. He called out to her, only for her to turn the corner, silently telling him to follow her. So he did. She stopped at the end of another hallway, turning that corner as well, Scott following.
What he saw when he turned the corner scared him; Emma and Lydia on their knees, hands on either side of their heads. The expression Lydia wore was one of pain, maybe trying to hold back a scream, but the look on Emma’s face scared him the most; tears running down her cheeks, clenched teeth, holding back a scream. He knew that Emma’s abilities were a little more advanced than Lydia’s because of her family tree. Plus, ritually sacrificing herself to save her dad was the cherry on top of the cake.
Both girls opened their mouths to scream, but no sound came out of their mouths.
“They don’t have much time,” Meredith said.
Scott turned to look at her. “What’s happening to them?”
“They’re both being consumed by their power, Emma especially. Dr. Valack thinks it’s worth it if they can answer the question.”
“But why bring Emma into this?”
“Because of her family history. She’s a Banshee, yes, but she’s also part werewolf.” “We’re all aware,” Scott said.
“The werewolf side started dying after she saw her suppressed memory,” Meredith informed.
Scott turned back to look at his best friends, going back to an earlier statement. “What question?” Meredith turned her head and looked at him. “Who is the Beast?”
Scott looked at her in return. “They can answer that?”
“Not yet. Not until the screams in both their heads are loud enough to kill them.”
They both looked back at the girls in front of them.
“How do I get to them?” Scott asked.
“You can’t,” Meredith answered. “You won’t be able to get past the Mountain Ash. But someone else might be able to.”
“Who?” Scott asked, looking at Meredith for the millionth time.
She took a second to look back at him. “The Hellhound.”
“You mean Parrish?”
“All three of them are connected. Emma and Jordan moreso. Find the Hellhound--” she looked back at the Banshees. “And he’ll find the Banshees.”
Scott retracted his claws from Meredith’s neck, letting her head fall gently back.
“Save them,” Meredith’s voice said before the cell door opened up.
Scott looked over and saw a very tall dark skinned orderly, his mouth opening a little… before watching the man fall to his face with a confused look. He looked over to the door, seeing Liam standing there with his fists up.
“Oh,” Liam panted. “Is he out?”
Scott looked down at the orderly, saying, “Yeah.”
Liam put his thumb up, saying, “Okay,” before falling right to the floor.
~~~
Theo walked up to a few pipes on the wall, putting his ear up to them.
“I thought you had their scent,” Stiles said.
“I lost it,” Theo informed.
At this point in his journey to find the love of his life, Stiles was getting a little agitated. “So find it again.”
With his ear near the pipes, Theo asked, “What do you smell down here, Stiles?”
Without missing a beat, Stiles clapped back with, “Chemicals and fecal matter. Although, I’m pretty sure the fecal matter is you.”
Emma would be proud of that statement. She always liked it when Stiles clapped back with something sarcastic like that. Reminded her of the days before Scott was bit… and a little bit after.
Theo shook his head, facing back forward and putting his ear up against the pipes again. “I smell it, too. It’s all that I can smell. Which is why I’m trying something else. So can you please shut up and let me concentrate?”
“I’m gonna find her,” Stiles said, moving to walk ahead without Theo. He got a few feet before Theo decided to follow him.
“You know you won’t, Stiles. You’re going to have to trust me.”
Stiles stopped and turned to face Theo, frustration lacing his every move and word. “Trust you? The guy who murdered his own sister when he was nine?”
“Yeah, I was nine years old,” Theo defended. “I-I also believed that a guy in a red suit came down the chimney to deliver presents.”
Stiles gave him a look that basically asked how all of this information Theo laying on him was relevant.
“So when three people in leather masks showed up and said that my sister wanted me to have her heart, I believed them, too.”
“So then together you gutted and killed her. That’s a beautiful story.”
“I watched her fall in the water and freeze to death in minutes. Do you think I had any idea what was going on?”
“I think you pushed her. And I think you liked it. I also think if Emma were here she’d say, ‘Yes, dumbass, of course you did. If you knew that Santa wasn’t real, then you had to have known pushing her in freezing cold water would kill her.’ ”
Stiles turned his head at the sound of hearing his girlfriend screaming. He looked around at the pipes in front of him. “What direction was that?” He looked at Theo, a little impatient for an answer. “Where’s it coming from?”
Not being able to focus, Theo said, “Everywhere.”
~~~
FIRST PERSON POV
I groaned at the light that flicked on above my head and at the burning feeling I have all over my body. I turned my head to the right to see Lydia sitting in a chair like mine. At hearing voices in my head, I turned my head back with a gasp, hearing Lydia do the same.
I started groaning in protest at the noises in my head that wouldn’t stop. It was almost like when I couldn’t sleep because my brain would just keep thinking of different things, but about a million times worse.
I sat forward a little, trying to gather my surroundings. Feeling a stinging pain in my head, I groaned in pain.
“Hang on a little longer, Emma,” Valack said. I watched as he walked over to Lydia, placing a white cloth to her head, her groaning in pain as well, repeating the same words to her as he did me. “You both can make it.”
I looked around, seeing a tray with more medical devices on it. He moved to a frequency device just beside other medical devices. He turned a dial ever so slightly.
“I want you two to focus on this. And what other sounds you hear now, push them aside. Focus on this sound.”
Lydia and I both whimpered at the sounds in our heads. I heard rhythmic crackling, concentrating on that sound.
“That’s it,” Valack whispered. “Focus on this sound and my voice. Alright, girls?”
The only voice I wanted to hear was Stiles’, but I wasn’t gonna get that now, was I?
Lydia and I both looked to our right, seeing a dead female orderly in the corner, her soulless, dead eyes looking at seemingly nothing.
“Don’t worry, girls. Nurse Cross wasn’t nearly as strong as you two are.”
I turned my head back forward, slowly, at the sounds of electricity crackling. That told me that Kira and Malia were still in the building.
~~~
THIRD PERSON POV
Scott and Liam found Parrish laying against a staircase, charred up from being in his Hellhound form.
“Parrish? Parrish. Parrish. Parrish, hey. Can you hear me?” Scott said, leaning over the Hellhound.
Parrish woke up from his trance-like state, confused. “How did I get here?”
“We don’t know. We just followed the burning smell,” Liam said.
Parrish looked down at his hands, seeing that they were charred and burned all to hell.
“Parrish, listen,” Scott said. “Eichen’s in lockdown. There’s no way for us to get out unless Plan B works.”
“Plan B?” Parrish asked. “What’s Plan B?”
Scott and Liam looked at each other, Liam slightly shaking his head. Scott looked back to Parrish, stating, “Don’t worry about it. Right now, we need you to find Lydia and Emma.”
“Me?”
“Actually, not completely you,” Liam said. “We… kind of need… the other you.”
“The Hellhound,” Scott informed.
~~~
Coming to a deadend stop at the end of one of the tunnels, Stiles quickly weighed his only two options; either go left or go right. He decided to go right. Coming to a deadend at the end of that tunnel, he just went to his left and around the corner, Theo standing there.
“Nothing,” Theo said.
“Great,” Stiles said. “You’re just as useless as I am.”
“I’m trying to help save their lives,” Theo countered back.
Already fed up with not being able to find his girlfriend, Stiles frustratedly said, “Would you just drop the altruistic crap? You want them both because they get you to Parrish, you want Parrish ‘cause he gets you to the Beast.”
“So what? I want it dead, too,” Theo said, turning and walking about four feet away from Stiles.
“After you take its power, right?” Stiles countered. “We know why you got the talons… and we know you’re looking for Deucalion.”
“I found Deucalion,” Theo corrected. “You’re right. I’m going to help Parrish stop the Beast. I’m gonna take its power, and then I’m gonna break its neck. So maybe I’m not the good guy in your eyes, but I might end up being the guy that saves all your asses.”
Stiles looked at the pipes, a thought running through his head; What would Emma do if she were here looking for Lydia? “Break it,” he said, gesturing to the pipes.
“What?” Theo asked.
“The sound travels through the pipe. You’ll hear better, dumbass. Break it.” “Let me guess; if Emma were here, she’d say that,” Theo said.
“Wanna help save her and Lydia? Break it.”
Theo slammed his fist against the pipe, successfully breaking it. He put his ear in the hole he’d just made, listening for the girls' voices.
“Lydia? Emma?” Dr. Valack’s voice came through. “Can you hear me?”
~~~
“What do you want from us?” Emma asked.
“I want both your help against the Dread Doctors,” Valack said. “They ruined me. Destroyed me. They drove me to obsession, consigned me to professional ridicule. People thought I was a monster… when I was simply trying to open their eyes.”
Emma looked over at Valack, eyes narrowed just a little. “Now you want us to be your eyes.”
Valack looked at Emma and smirked. “You’ll see things, Emma. Things no one else can see.” He turned ominously. “You may not survive, but you might save the lives of your friends.”
Emma saw him reach up and grab something off the wall. When he turned, she closed her mouth tightly and turned her head to the side just a little. What he held in his hand was a very terrifying Steampunk looking mask.
~~~
Liam looked through the push cart that was conveniently placed next to them in the stairwell. He grabbed a can of glass cleaner and tossed it to Scott, who then turned and looked at Parrish, who in turn was gearing up for what was about to happen.
Scott uncapped the can as Liam flicked on the lighter, both looking at Parrish, who shouted out, “Do it!”
Scott pressed the nozzle on the can, sending the chemicals into the fire from the lighter, successfully setting Parrish on fire and igniting the Hellhound within him.
~~~
Valack placed two small metal discs attached to cords on Emma’s temples. “We have to slow your mind first. There’s too much activity in your brain.”
Emma jerked her head softly, the smallest of noises clouding her mind. She looked around with each noise. “Yeah because you drilled a freaking hole into the side of my head.”
Ignoring her comment, Valack continued with his ‘doctor’ talk. “We have to get from a gamma wave to a theta.”
Emma moaned at a particularly loud noise. “It’s too loud, I can’t,” she whispered.
“If I try the mask now, it will kill you. You have to calm your mind.”
She heard a scream as she stared in front of her.
“You understand what they’ve created,” Valack said. “Both of you.”
Both girls nodded slightly. “The Beast.”
“The Beast of Gevaudan,” Valack clarified.
“An engineered version of it,” Emma added, trying to be sassy.
“That’s right. But it’s not yet fully grown. It’s bound to its host, the teenage Chimera inside. And it still requires the Dread Doctors’ protection.”
It took a couple seconds before Emma could fully concentrate after hearing noises while Valack spoke to her. “Damnatio Memoriae.”
“That’s right. The Beast was a man first. A human killer in the late 1700s. The Dread Doctors are trying to get it to remember itself. To remember the man. When that happens, the teenager is gone.”
As Valack spoke and more noises came through, the burning feeling Emma had felt just a moment prior went away. Confused by all the events that have happened in the last twenty minutes, Emma was content in letting Valack do whatever he needed to her, but she had one question on her mind; if Valack needed her, why put Lydia through all of it beforehand? Was it just to get to Emma or was there a more underlying reason, like Emma’s abilities being more powerful than Lydia’s because of her family?
~~~
Stiles and Theo followed the sound of Valack and Emma’s voices through the pipes, Theo leading the way with his wolf-hearing.
Stiles was committed to finding the love of his life and her best friend. He didn’t know what would happen if they both screamed themselves to death. Finding her dead body makes his anxiety spike up.
They both moved faster to try and find the girls, but for different reasons.
~~~
“This teenager, Emma, is the last Genetic Chimera. A young man or a young woman, maybe even someone you know,” Valack said.
Emma looked to her right, eyes locking with Lydia’s. Both of their eyes told each other that they didn’t know how they would react if it was someone they knew… especially if it was someone relatively new to the pack.
“A success where Theo and the others were failures,” Valack continued.
“But we went through the list of Genetic Chimeras,” Emma said. “There’s no one else.”
“There must be one you missed. Another way they could have two sets of DNA.”
Stiles and Theo continued to follow the voices in the tunnels as Valack continued speaking to Emma.
“If you could see the face of this teenager, discover its identity, then your friends would have a fighting chance. The mask can help you see.”
Finding the door that the girls were on the other side of, Stiles slammed his hands against it, yelling, “Emma!”
Theo jammed his arm into the door, trying to break it open, but it wouldn’t budge. Locked. The lights started flickering, the device to Emma’s left sparking before she started struggling to not scream.
“Emma!” Stiles yelled. Now addressing Theo, he said, “What the hell are you doing? Get the door open.”
“I’m trying,” Theo said.
On the other side of the door, Emma whimpered as she tried to hold back a scream.
“Fight it, Em,” Lydia encouraged.
Valack picked up the mask, fully intending on putting it over Emma’s head as he said, “I’m sorry. Time’s up.”
Emma and Lydia leaned up from her lean in their chairs, letting out the loudest scream that they’d ever released since getting scratched by Peter, causing Theo, Stiles to cover their ears.
~~~
FIRST PERSON POV
I looked over at Valack after screaming, seeing that he had lowered the mask from in front of his face… the left side of his skull completely blown off. I looked over at Lydia, silently asking her if we did that. She nodded, confirming my question.
At the sound of the door in front of us breaking, I saw the one person that I’ve been wanting to see for the last twenty-five minutes.
I leaned back in the chair, watching as he ran towards me. He put his hands on either side of my face, moving to take the metal discs off my temples.
“You came back,” I said.
“We’re getting you and Lydia out of here, okay?” he said.
“You can’t,” I said, trying to hold back tears. “It’s too dangerous.”
“Baby, please shut up and let me save your life.”
I looked at him with nothing but love in my eyes, and nodded. He helped me off the chair and onto my feet, Lydia holding her hand out for me.
“You okay, Lydia?” Stiles asked, to which she nodded just barely.
~~~
THIRD PERSON POV
Scott and Liam followed a Hellhound-formed Parrish down the hallway.
“Parrish?” Scott said.
Parrish didn’t say anything, just kept walking.
“How’s he going to get through the Mountain Ash?” Liam asked.
Both werewolves watched as Parrish walked through the Mountain Ash barrier, red and blue flames emitting. The boys stopped in their tracks, shocked looks on their faces as Parrish kept his walk down the hallway.
Scott moved forward, putting his hand up to where the barrier would be, not being stopped as his hand moved all the way through. “He’s burning it right out of the walls.”
They both moved forward to continue following Parrish.
~~~
FIRST PERSON POV
I started basically slipping in Stiles’ hold as we walked through the tunnels.
“Okay. You gotta try and stay on your feet, babe,” Stiles said.
I groaned in protest, not having the strength. I was super surprised that Lydia was the strong one between the both of us, even though we both let out one the loudest screams ever.
“The rest of the plan didn’t work out too well,” Stiles continued. “Lydia, I’m gonna need your help, okay?”
“You had a plan?” Lydia asked.
“Yeah,” I groaned. “It was good on paper.”
“Not too much in reality,” Stiles added.
He pushed us through a door, Lydia and I both going down on our knees, hands covering our heads.
“Babe, I can’t hold it,” I groaned.
“Me either,” Lydia added.
I heard echoing sounds, like voices, noises, screams, just everything.
“I can’t do it,” I said.
“Emma--”
“Stiles, run!” Lydia and I said.
A hand landed on Stiles’ shoulder, pulling him away from me and Lydia. I watched him almost land on the ground before Scott wrapped his arm around him.
I took a deep breath as soon as Parrish was close enough, hearing Lydia do the same. We both started to let out screams before Parrish wrapped his arms around us, muffling and or silencing our screams. I felt the rumble of our screams against the walls and the ground, almost like an earthquake.
Both Lydia and I were on either side of Parrish, doing our best to stay upright. “Where to?” Parrish asked.
“This way,” Scott said, turning to his right and running down that tunnel.
“Stiles,” Parrish said, gently pushing me towards him.
Stiles picked me up bridal style, my arms going around his neck as I watched Parrish get Lydia in the same position before taking off after Scott.
“There’s a gate up ahead,” Liam said.
“What about Mason?” Scott asked.
“He’s on it, trust me.”
“Mason’s here?” I asked, groggily.
“Yeah. Don’t talk,” Stiles said gently.
“I’m supposed to be the gentle one,” I whispered.
We turned a corner before Lydia and I voiced at the same time, “What’s happening?”
“Plan B,” Parrish said.
Liam started running down the tunnels, Scott hot on his tail. Stiles did his best with me in his arms, Parrish behind a few feet.
“Liam, slow down,” Scott said.
“Liam, wait!” Stiles added.
We rounded another corner before we stopped. “Geez, how many more corners?” I sassed.
I watched with Scott and Stiles as Liam grabbed the gate and pulled it open. I was sure that Scott, Stiles and I all three had the same looks of confusion on our faces.
“I told you!” Liam said, excitedly. He bounced and went through the gate.
I chuckled as lightly as possible. “He’s such a puppy.”
Stiles nodded at Scott, then looked back at Parrish, nodding with his head to follow.
We went down the tunnels and ended up at a ladder that went up to a grate at the street.
How Parrish and Stiles managed to get both me and Lydia up to the street, I have no clue.
“Scotty, look out,” I said, hearing a car approaching us.
Stiles’ Jeep stopped in front of us, my own Jeep suddenly behind Stiles’.
“Babe, can you stand?” Stiles asked. I nodded, feeling him put me on my feet slowly.
Malia and Kira got out of Stiles’ Jeep while my mom got out of mine.
“Are they okay?” Malia asked.
I gave her a look as Scott answered. “No, we need to go. Give me the keys. We gotta get them to the clinic.”
Parrish groaned and used the hood of the Jeep for support. I felt a hand in mine as I was being pulled backwards.
“Sorry, but they’re coming with me,” Tracy said.
“Okay. Tracy, just wait. You don’t know what’s about to happen,” Scott tried to reason.
“I’m taking them,” she enunciated. “That’s what’s happening. And none of you are going to do a thing--” Her words were interrupted by a jolt of electricity.
Lydia and I walked two steps forward, Scott catching Lydia while Stiles and Mom caught me. Who I wasn’t expecting to see was Natalie Martin standing with an electric baton.
“Could somebody please get my daughter out of this hellhole?” Natalie said.
“Sure thing,” I groaned. “Right on it.”
“Alright, Stiles and Emma with me. Rose, can Parrish and Lydia ride with you?,” Scott said.
Mom nodded before we all moved to our respective vehicles.
Stiles and I got in the backseat of his Jeep, Scott in the driver’s. My back was against his chest, both of us in a sort of laying position.
“Scott,” Stiles said. The Jeep was moving a little slower than what he wanted.
“Yeah. I’m trying, I’m trying,” Scott said, having a hard time switching gears.
I felt his nose nuzzle into my hair. “We’re almost there. Em, just hold on, okay?”
With my eyes clenched tight, I tried my best to fight off the scream that wanted to come out. I bet Lydia was having a hard time, as well. My face was covered in sweat. I couldn’t hold it back anymore as I opened my mouth and screamed, feeling Lydia’s connection with mine… even though we’re in different vehicles.
“Hey,” Stiles said. “Emma, baby, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.” He put his hand on the side of my head, careful not to touch the hole. “Look. You’re gonna get through this, okay? Emma, look at me, you’re gonna make it.”
I looked him in the eyes for a second, breathing heavy, then over to his ear. I looked back at his eyes, tears in my eyes, whispering, “But you’re not.”
He reached up and touched the blood that was coming from his ear.
A tear slid down my cheek, knowing that I was the one to cause that.
He put his hand back on the side of my face as Scott pressed on the gas to go faster now that he got the Jeep into the gear he wanted.
Something inside of me told me that Lydia was in the exact same boat as I was; the same words to Parrish, same movements, everything. Almost like we were twins.
We got to the clinic in record time after that, Scott and Stiles helping me from the Jeep. We walked inside after Mom, Parrish and Lydia. Deaton asked who was in worse condition. He got his answer as Scott moved another exam table into the room, putting the two tables together.
“Get them on the tables,” Deaton said.
Scott and Stiles moved to lay me on the one closest to the windows as Mom and Parrish put Lydia on the one next to me on my left.
Lydia and I laced our fingers together, giving support to the other. We both arched our backs, pain radiating everywhere as the urge to scream continued to take over.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Stiles said.
“Hold them,” came Deaton’s voice.
As soon as I felt Stiles’ hand on my arm, Lydia squeezed my hand, both of us letting out a whimper scream. It wasn’t loud by any means, but it made the objects in the room shake.
“Doc, think you gotta do something,” Stiles said.
“I will,” Deaton replied. “But right now, I need you to keep them still.”
I clenched my teeth while almost squeezing Lydia’s hand, another scream wanting to make its way through.
“Steady, steady,” Deaton said.
“What the hell is that?” Stiles asked.
“Mistletoe. Here,” Deaton said, handing a syringe to Scott.
“Mistletoe? She’s got a freaking hole in her head.”
I groaned loudly in protest at Stiles being Stiles right now when everyone’s lives were on the line.
“Stiles, Parrish, help,” Scott said, who put his arm over mine and Lydia’s waists.
Deaton grabbed my neck, forcing me to lay still as he put the syringe into my head, pushing the Mistletoe out of it and into my head… which hurt like a freaking bitch!
Lydia and I both shot up from our laying positions, screaming loudly and powerfully, shattering the windows, and falling back onto the tables.
Everything going black.
~~~
THIRD PERSON POV
When Emma and Lydia screamed, they shattered the windows above them. Stiles put his body over Emma’s as Parrish put his over Lydia’s.
Stiles picked his head up, looking at Scott and Parrish before looking down at Lydia, her body unmoving. Which only told him one thing; Emma looked the same. He looked down at his girlfriend, gently moving some glass from her eyelid and the rest of her face.
“Emma,” he whispered. “Emma?” he said a little louder. He looked over at Scott then back to Emma. “Emma.”
Lydia gasped awake, looking into Parrish’s eyes before turning her head to her right, seeing Emma looking lifeless. Tears came to her eyes, thinking that her best friend died from their screams.
“Emma,” Stiles tried again. “Emma, come on.” She still didn’t move, and he was starting to panic.
“No, no, no, no, no. Come on, Emma. Wake up. Come on. Wake up. Can you hear me? Emma. Baby, open your eyes. Come on, come on. Come on. Listen to me, beautiful. Hey, show me your eyes, okay? Emma, you have to open your eyes.”
Rose was watching this event unfold, tears coming down her cheeks as Scott tried to comfort her, a look of hurt on his face at the thought of his best friend, his sister, being dead.
Emma let out a tiny moan, hearing a sigh of relief coming from the voice that brought her back. She opened her eyes, seeing the honey orbs that she loved more than the sun. They looked into each other's eyes, tears filling them both before she groaned in pain just a little, nothing like she had been all night.
“You okay?” Stiles asked.
Emma reached her hand up, cupping his cheek as she smiled a little, nodding her head. “You can’t get rid of me that easily,” she whispered, sass lacing every word.
Stiles let out a breath of relief. “There she is. You’re okay.” He reached down and laced his fingers with hers. “Wanna try and sit up?”
Emma nodded, seeing Stiles look up, asking for help. With two pairs of hands on her back and arms, she sat up, glass falling onto her legs. She looked at Stiles again before looking over at Scott, Lydia and Parrish. Looking around some more, she saw Natalie and her mom standing together. Seeing the one person she didn’t expect to see at all, she scrunched her brows in confusion. “Dad?”
Carter walked over to his daughter, wrapping her in his arms. “Oh, sweetheart.”
Emma welcomed the embrace, not remembering a time when her father hugged her from being saved. She tilted her head to look at Stiles. “They saved my life, Daddy,” Emma said, hearing Lydia say the exact same to her mother.
She smiled a little as she looked at Stiles, tears in her eyes. “Stiles saved me.”
Carter let go of his daughter, extending his hand in thanks to the teenage boy. Stiles hesitantly grasped Carter’s hand, nodding once. “All is forgiven,” Carter said. A look of relief flashed across Stiles’ face.
Stiles looked over to Scott, who watched on from behind Emma.
“Daddy,” Emma said. “Can you let go? I wanna hug Stiles.”
Carter chuckled. “Of course, sweetheart.” He kissed the side of her head, avoiding the Mistletoe. He backed away and walked over to his wife, putting his arm around her shoulders.
Emma looked over at Stiles, putting her legs over the table as he walked forward and stood between them. They put their arms around each other, Emma feeling more safe in his arms than she ever did. She looked over at Scott, then at Deaton, her eyes expressing all the thanks she could the vet.
“I’m not paying for the windows,” Stiles said.
Emma chuckled and looked up at her boyfriend, a smile ever present on her face.
“There he is,” she whispered.

After getting to hospital with our dads, Stiles and I were standing at the nurses station… and I was getting frustrated.
“Stilinski and Thomas, right?” the nurse asked.
Stiles nodded while I let out an exasperated, “Yes.”
“You said their insurances are with the county? They're deputies?”
“No, he's-- Stilinski’s the Sheriff. He's the county Sheriff,” Stiles said.
“Thomas is the deputy,” I said. “Okay, they're covered!”
“I mean, they should be covered,” Stiles said.
We both sighed as we felt hands on our backs. Looking over our shoulders, we saw that the hands belonged to Melissa.
“I'll take care of it,” she said. She grabbed a clipboard as Stiles grabbed my hand, the two of us walking with her down the hallway.
“I texted Scott,” she said. “He's coming as soon as he can. I can call Malia.”
“No, no, no,” Stiles said. “Don't-don't call anyone.”
“Is there anyone else we need to notify? A next of kin?” the nurse asked.
I looked over my shoulder at her. “Yeah. My mom. Deputy Thomas' wife. Rose Carter.” I turned back around and sighed deeply, trying to hold myself together.
“It's just me for the Sheriff,” Stiles said.
Melissa walked Stiles and I to the waiting room, where we sat side by side in the chairs provided.
I was leaned back in my seat, hand rubbing Stiles' back as he leaned forward, elbows on his knees, hands rubbing together. He looked up and put his hands up to his mouth, and I just knew that he had tears in his eyes. So, I did what any other girlfriend would do; leaned forward and rested my chin against his shoulder. He turned his head slightly in my direction, careful not to knock our heads together.
“It's gonna be okay,” I whispered. “Your dad's gonna be okay.”
“You're not worried about yours?” he asked.
I nodded. “I am. But I also have Mom to do all the worrying and crying for me.” I scooted forward until I was almost on the edge of my seat, facing him more. “You've been my rock since we were kids. It's my turn to be that for you.”
He sighed and put his forehead against mine. “I love you.”
“I love you more,” I whispered. I pulled my head back a little. “Come here.” I leaned back and put my hand on his shoulder, guiding him to sit back some more. “Try and get a nap in. We both have had a long day.”
He nodded a little, but put his arm around my shoulder, guiding me to lean against him as best I could. I felt him press his lips to the top of my head as I closed my eyes. Within a few minutes, I was asleep. I wasn't so sure about Stiles, but I'm sure he fell asleep not long after I did.
~~~
I wasn't sure how much time had passed before I felt Stiles jump a little, which caused me to wake up.
We both were breathing heavily just a little as we both noticed Melissa sitting in front of us. I only knew that he also noticed her because the grip he had on me loosened a little.
“They're okay. They're both okay,” Melissa said. “Dr. Geyer is stitching them up right now.”
Stiles and I looked at each other in relief.
“Okay, I wanna see him,” Stiles said. He started to get up, but with mine and Melissa's hand on his shoulders, we sat him back down.
“Okay, okay,” she said. She looked at me for a second before looking back at Stiles, addressing the both of us. “The anesthesia needs to wear off. It's gonna be at least two hours.”
“Okay, yeah, but everything's gonna be okay though, I mean, he's okay?” Stiles rushed out.
She hummed in agreement, and nodded a little.
“What about my dad? Is he gonna be okay, too?” I asked.
She looked at me and smiled a little. “They're gonna be just fine.”
I watched as Stiles sat back in his chair, tears filling his eyes as he sighed, “Oh, thank God.” He put his hands up to his mouth in relief. I was happy that my dad and godfather were going to be okay, but something deep inside of me told me that wasn't the case. I just needed to figure out what.
Deaton told me once that my abilities were gonna be a little more powerful than Lydia's. I'm guessing this is what he meant; that I would sense and feel bad things. I still had to be that rock for Stiles right now, though. I had my mom to do all the crying for me about my dad.
Stiles and I had gotten up from our seats to go see our dads. Something wasn't right when we looked at them. I sighed and closed my eyes, shaking my head. When I opened them up, they were Green... like always.
“Scott, Parrish... Lydia?” I whispered.
“What?” Stiles asked.
“Few pack members are here.Nothing to worry about.”
I felt as Scott's presence got stronger as Mom, Stiles and I were standing in front of our dad's rooms, talking to Dr. Geyer.
“What do you mean you don't know?” Stiles asked. “Two hours ago, they were fine. Now it looks like somebody took a baseball bat to their necks.”
“There could've been some minor internal,” Dr. Geyer said.
“Did you say minor internal?” I asked. “Since when is anything internal minor?”
“Kids,” Melissa said.
“No! We need to know what's going on with our dads, okay?” I said, looking right at Melissa. I looked at Dr. Geyer with my next words. “Dr. Geyer, somebody needs to tell us what's happening.”
“Somebody needs to tell us what's happening to them!” Stiles said, voice a little louder than mine.
As I took Stiles' right hand in my left, I wrapped my right hand around his arm, tears filling my eyes as Melissa looked from us to my Mom to our dads then back to us.
“We don't know,” Melissa said.
Stiles and I looked at each other before I looked out the window to the other side of the hallway. From the corner of my eye, I saw Stiles look over. We both watched as Scott stood at the other door to our dads rooms. I'm sure all that Stiles saw was red because he started walking towards Scott.
“Stiles,” I said.
He shoved the door open and stalked towards Scott. He grabbed Scott's jacket and slammed him against the wall then turned him and slammed his back against the ground.
As I started running towards them, I heard Stiles say, “Where were you?”
“Stiles!” I said, grabbing his shoulders to pull him off our best friend.
“You trusted him,” Stiles said, eyes locked on Scott. “You believed him. Right, huh? So where were you?”
“Melissa! Mom!” I said, turning my head over my shoulder to address them.
They both came running over, saying, “Hey, hey, hey!” to get Stiles' attention.
“Where the hell were you?!” Stiles shouted.
“Babe, stop!” I said, having help getting Stiles off of Scott. When we had both boys apart from each other, I stood in front of Stiles.
“Okay, alright, alright,” Stiles said. There were two other officers from the station that helped us get them apart. One standing beside me and Stiles, the other by Scott and Melissa. I looked over at Mom, who looked horrified at the scene she'd just witnessed.
Looking back up at Stiles, I put my hands on his cheeks, guiding his eyes to mine. “Babe, stop,” I said, calmly. “Not here. Now's not the time.”
“But he--”
“I know. I know,” I said. “Now isn't the time nor the place.”
He was still panting when he looked from me to Scott. Putting my hands on Stiles' chest, I turned my body a little to look at Scott, all three of us staring at each other.
“Your dad's not the only ones who got hurt,” Scott said.
“Oh, you'll heal,” Stiles snarked.
I sighed. I was pretty pissed at Scott as well, but not this pissed.
“Em?” Scott said. “Got any comebacks?”
“You're a damn idiot, Scott McCall,” I said. “We warned you and you didn't listen. Stiles is right. You'll heal.” I sassed the last two words.
I looked down at his shirt, seeing blood seeping through right before he moved his jacket to cover it.
“I'm not talking about me,” he said.
My eyes widened. “What room is she in?” I didn't wait for Scott to answer as I bolted from where I was standing to the elevators, clicking on the button of the floor I knew she'd be on. Stiles followed suit. Once we got to the floor we needed, I ran out of the elevator and down to her room. I took two steps when I felt Stiles behind me.
Laying on the bed with her mom sitting beside her was Lydia... looking catatonic. Tears filled my eyes once again at the sight of one of my best friends lying there helpless. Who the hell did this to her?
Mrs. Martin looked back at us, anger in her eyes. “No,” she said, standing from the bed.
“Mrs. Martin,” I tried.
“No, you don't. Neither of you are coming in here.”
Stiles moved around me a couple of steps.
“Get out!” Mrs. Martin said.
“Just wait, wait. I think I know who did this, okay,” Stiles said. “Let Emma look at the back of her neck.”
“I know who did this. You!” She shoved Stiles back, causing him to stumble back towards me. “All of you! Get out!”
“Mrs. Martin,” I said.
“Lydia was right to no longer be friends with you,” she sneered at me.
“Mrs, Martin, please. Just listen to us,” I said, tears falling from my eyes. “You just gotta check the back--”
“Just get out!”
“Just check the back of her neck!” I yelled.
“Out!” she said, successfully getting us out of the room before shutting the door in our faces.
Stiles put an arm around my shoulders, guiding me away from Lydia's room. He led us to the morgue. I guess this was gonna be our regular meeting place in the hospital...
Once Parrish, Scott, Mom and Melissa were in the room with us, we told them what we saw of Lydia. Parrish and Scott already knew because apparently Parrish found her like that at the Nemeton and Scott had helped bring her to the hospital.
“It could be a side effect of shock,” Parrish said.
“She's catatonic,” Stiles said, putting his arm around my shoulders, pulling me into his side. “It was Theo digging his way through her mind.”
“Why would he do that?” Mom asked.
“What was he looking for?” Melissa asked.
“The same thing he's always looking for,” Scott said. “An advantage.”
“So what did he gain by trying to kill Stilinski and Thomas?” Parrish asked.
“It left me alone with Liam. Theo wanted to take sure no one would be there to stop him from killing me.”
“Okay, so he gutted our dads as a distraction,” I said, wrapping my right arm around Stiles' back and placing my left hand on his chest.
“We need to find this kid,” Parrish said.
“Isn't that a little dangerous?” Mom asked.
“Yeah, especially since he almost killed my kid?” Melissa said.
“Yeah, but he said he didn't want our dads to die,” Stiles said.
“And you both believe him?” Parrish said.
“I'm not sure what the hell to believe anymore,” I sighed.
“He told me where to find them,” Stiles said.
“So, maybe he also knows how to save them,” I added.
“What do you want to do?” Mom asked. “Talk to him?”
“If it saves Dad and Noah, then yeah,” I said, looking at my mom.
“I'll come with you. He doesn't know that I'm alive,” Scott said. “Maybe that gives us an advantage.”
“He'll know you're there,” Stiles said, moving around me to walk towards the door. “I just need to talk to him, not fight him.”
“Babe, you can't go alone,” I said.
“That's why you're coming with me.”
“Does anyone even know how to find him?” Parrish asked.
“We don't have to find him,” Stiles said. “He'll come to me.”
He looked at me and I sighed deeply.
~~~
When we got to Scott's, we left the door open. Stiles sat down the stairs, facing the doors while I stood in front of him, blocking the door for the time being.
“You sure this'll work?” I asked, arms crossed.
“It has to,” he said, quietly. “I don't know what I'll do if it doesn't.”
I sighed and stood on the last step, to which Stiles put his hands on my waist and placed his head on my stomach. I put my hands on his shoulders and rubbed his arms up and down.
He picked his head up and softly squeezed my waist after a couple of seconds, causing me to look down at him. Motioning his head for me to come here, I leaned down at the same time he sat up a little straighter. Our lips connected in a soft kiss. Pulling back, we placed our foreheads against each other as I sighed.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
“For what?” I asked.
“Always being there.”
I chuckled. “Always, babe. And thank you.”
He furrowed his brows. “For what?”
I smirked. “Being my hero.”
He chuckled a little. “I hate it when you do this.”
“Please?”
He sighed and looked down. “I'm not a hero, Em.”
I placed my finger under his chin, lifting his head up and looking him in the eyes. “You'll always be my hero.”
I turned around and sat on the step below him, tilting my head back while he placed his arms on my shoulders, lacing his fingers in front of me.
About two minutes later, Theo walked up to the door, standing at the line of Mountain Ash.
Stiles and I looked at him as he stood there, looking at the Ash. He looked back up at us and stepped over the line, causing me to raise a brow with sass.
“Nice to see that you still have your sass, Emma,” Theo said.
“Yeah, it probably won't ever go away,” I sassed.
He chuckled. “I guess we're all telling the truth now.” He looked up at the staircase. I was really hoping at this point that he wasn't sensing Scott standing up there.
Stiles tossed Theo Scott's shirt that he'd taken off as part of our plan.
“You killed our best friend?” Stiles said.
“And don't lie. I know you did because his name came bellowing out of my mouth. Banshee senses and all,” I said.
Theo looked at the shirt then back up at us. “Let's be honest, guys. Was he still really your best friend?”
“Are you gonna let our fathers die?” I asked.
“If I wanted them to die, I wouldn't have told Stiles where you can find them.” He tossed Scott's shirt off to the side.
Stiles moved his arms and tapped me on the shoulder, asking me to get up. So that's what I did. I stood up and moved off to the side.
“Then why are they saying both their bodies are shutting down?” Stiles said, standing from the staircase.
I leaned against the wall, crossing my arms, tears now filling my eyes. “That some toxin is poisoning them and they don't know how to stop it.”
“I'm not the bad guy, Emma,” Theo said.
“Oh, how I wanna believe that,” I sassed.
“I'm just a realist. I'm a survivor. If you knew the things that I know--”
“Yeah, but what do you know?” Stiles asked.
“I know what's coming. And so does Emma,” Theo said.
The face I gave him read anger.
“We know what the Dread Doctors created.”
“Uhm, you do. I just know that death is coming. For a lot of people.”
Theo looked at me. “Would you quit interrupting?” He sighed and looked back at Stiles. “And I know what Parrish is. Lydia figured it out. I saw it in her memories.”
“Right after you drove her out of her freaking mind,” I said. I uncrossed my arms, fully intending on attacking him, but Stiles grabbed my hand. He just knew me like that.
“Collateral damage,” Theo said.
I launched myself at him, but Stiles wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his chest.
“But if she's right about Parrish, then things around here are gonna get a lot worse.”
“I don't care,” Stiles whispered.
“You should,” Theo said. “Because if both your dads do survive, they're not gonna be Sheriff and Deputy of anything much longer.”
“What's happening to them?!” I yelled. I pushed off Stiles, really wanting to kick this Chimera's ass.
Theo just turned around to start walking out the door.
“Hey, tell us!” Stiles yelled. He walked up to Theo and turned him around by his shoulder.
Theo did turn around. However, he pushed Stiles back by his chest against the stairs and pushed me onto the floor of the living room.
I heard a thud, like Stiles had hit something on the stairs.
“Stiles?!” I yelled. I got up and moved to the stairs, seeing him laying there, almost lifeless. “Stiles!” I placed my hands on his cheeks, rubbing my thumbs against his skin. “Stiles, you have to wake up. Babe, wake up. Open your eyes. Please. Wake up.” I looked up the staircase. “Scott! Get down here!”
Scott came running down the stairs, jumping over Stiles' body.
I looked back down at Stiles. “Stiles. Stiles!” He opened his eyes and locked them with mine as I sighed in relief. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
“I'm fine,” he said, getting up.
I stood beside Scott as Stiles stood in front of us.
“Babe, you blacked out,” I said.
“I'm okay,” he said, holding his hand out for me. I took it as he pulled me into a hug.
We both looked back to Scott. “Did you get anything from him, Scotty?” I asked.
“Nothing. He was calm the entire time,” he said.
“What about his heart?” Stiles asked.
“I heard it jump, but only once, and only for a second.”
“That doesn't mean he was lying, does it?”I asked.
“No,” Stiles said.
“Not really,” Scott said. “The rest of the time it was steady.”
“When did it jump? What were we talking about?”
Scott thought about the conversation for a second. “It was when you said your dads were poisoned.”
Stiles and I looked at each other. “That could be something,” I shrugged.
“A jump could mean surprise, right?” Stiles asked.
“Yeah, yeah, I think so,” Scott said.
“Alright, so why would he be surprised that our dads are still dying?” I asked.
Scott looked at me like he knew something. “Oh, wait. He didn't say that he was the one who attacked your dads, did he?”
“No,” Stiles and I whispered.
“Well, then this means it was probably someone else,” Stiles said.
“Another Chimera,” Scott and I said.
The feeling of our dads dying hit me like a bus. “We gotta hurry and find out who it is,” I said. “They're dying... and fast.”
~~~
Stiles and I jumped into my Jeep. He's lucky I'm letting him drive it. After we both closed the doors, he locked them, not wanting Scott to come along.
“Stiles,” I said. “Don't.”
Scott tried to open the door behind me, but couldn't because... well, it was locked.
“Stiles?” Scott said.
“Yeah, we can do the rest ourselves,” Stiles said.
“We don't even know where to start,” I said.
“Emma's right. All we know is that it's another Chimera,” Scott said. “Do you even know where you're headed?”
Stiles started the Jeep up.
“Come on. Let me help. I can find the clues that you can't.”
Stiles put the Jeep in drive, fully prepared to drive off without hearing another word from Scott. Didn't work 'cause Scott just moved in front of my Jeep.
They both looked at each other like the other was crazy. I sighed and opened my door.
“Where are you going?” Stiles asked.
“We can't do this alone, Stiles,” I said, authority in my voice. I got out and took steps towards Scott. “Now, I get that we're both equally pissed at Scott, but that doesn't mean that we can't work together on not having our dads die. If you two don't get over all this shit with Theo in order to save our fathers lives, then I don't want any part of this. Count me the hell out.”
It was silent between us three for a few seconds before Scott spoke up. “She's right, Stiles. You can't do this alone, okay. You need me. You need all of us. I can get more help. I can text Liam.”
“Liam just tried to kill you,” Stiles said.
“Okay, then at least let me help,” Scott begged.
“You believed him?”
“You trusted him, too.”
I got back in the Jeep, closing the door behind me. “Theo got to all of us.”
“Babe, he doesn't even know the real story,” Stiles said, looking over to me.
“He doesn't need to. At least not right now. All that matters right now is our dads, handsome.”
He kept his eyes on me as he sunk in the seat a little bit.
“Come on, Stiles. Emma's right here,” Scott said.
I looked over at Scott, seeing him nod his head, telling me to keep going. Stiles always listened to me in serious situations like this. I wasn't about to stop now.
“Look at me,” I said. Stiles turned his head over to look at me as I took my hand in his. “We survived an Alpha pack, a Dark Druid, professional assassins. You survived Nogitsune.”
“You survived Peter, Matt and the Kanima,” Stiles countered back.
“Yeah. Because I had you and Scott by my side. We're The Three Musketeers. Hell, the Three Stooges, even.”
He looked at me, nothing but love and understanding in his eyes.
I put my hand on his cheek, feeling him lean into my touch. “We can survive Dread Doctors and Chimeras, too.”
He picked his head up and danced his eyes around. “We're not looking for a missing Chimera. We're looking for a missing teenager.”
~~~
Stiles ended up driving the three of us back to his house, where he and I took showers and changed.
After I got dressed in my room, I walked into Stiles' room, watching as he worked on whatever it is they agreed upon.
Scott picked his head up from where he was looking. “Oh, good. You're here.”
“Uhm, yeah?” I said.
“Next time I'm here, can you two not go at it in the shower?”
“Your fault for listening in,” I sassed. I walked into the room more and around the crime board.
I guess Stiles just ignored what Scott said because he walked over to us with his phone. “There was a call a few hours ago about a sophomore from Beacon High who never came home last night.”
“What's his name?” Scott asked.
“Noah Patrick.”
We looked up at the list of Chimeras we printed, Scott pointing to Noah's name.
“You're gonna need a scent, right?” I asked, looking up at Scott.
“Where are we gonna get one?” Scott asked.
~~~
We went to the school and ended up finding his locker. “Break the lock and get his jacket,” I said.
Scott broke the lock on Noah's locker, opening it and grabbing the jacket that was inside.
“How did you know this was in here?” Scott asked.
“I keep one in mine in case someone hurries me out the door and I get cold. Doesn't everyone keep a jacket in their locker?” I said.
He sighed and made an impressed face. “Well... now we can catch his scent.”
“Like I've said.”
He turned and tossed the jacket into the hallway. I didn't see who caught it until I looked around Scott.
“You called her?” I asked.
“Em, we need all the help we can get,” Scott said. “I should be calling everyone.”
“And I know what this kid looks like,” Malia said.
She and I looked at each other, still trying to be civil. I keep going back and forth with her, but I can't help but be a little salty towards her. I mean, she did threaten my life at the same time while confessing her feelings for Stiles.
I sighed. “Alright.”
I wasn't too happy about this, but I guess I would have to deal.
~~~
We drove to the old abandoned train station, where Malia hopped out and walked down a set of stairs from the ledge into the tunnel where the train would pass through. Scott and Malia were a few steps ahead of us when Stiles decided to stop for a couple seconds.
I turned around and saw him standing by the ledge, looking for something. “Babe?” I said, causing him to quickly stand up straight.
“Yeah?”
“You okay?”
He sighed and looked down at the ground. “Yeah, I'm fine.”
It was my turn to sigh as I walked over to him, standing in front of him. “No, you're not.”
“How are you so good at that?” he asked.
I smirked and chuckled a little. “We've known each other since we were in diapers, been best friends since and have been dating for over a year. I think I know when something's wrong.”
He looked at me for a couple seconds. “I don't know. I guess it's our dads. I mean, everything that's happened to them has been because of us.”
“Hey,” I whispered, putting my hand on his arm. “Don't blame yourself or us for all of this. Someone's bound to get hurt because of the supernatural. It's been that way since Scott got bit. You know that.”
“Yeah, but I didn't think the first person to get seriously hurt by it would be you,” he said, voice soft.
“Shit happens. I survived. Our dads are gonna survive,” I said, emphasizing the last few words. “We're going to figure this out, take whatever information back to Melissa, and they're gonna fix Dad and Noah back up, and then they're going to heal and be back to normal before we know it. Okay?”
He looked at me for a few more seconds before nodding his head and pulling me into a hug. I placed the side of my head against his chest as he rested his chin on the top of my head, and breathed in his scent, loving this moment we're having. It's felt like forever since we've had a moment to ourselves like this.
“Where the hell is she going?” Stiles muttered.
“Hmm?” I said. I turned my body around some, seeing Malia walk into the ledge, basically. “Strange. Didn't know we all were going to Hogwarts.”
Stiles snickered as we walked down to meet Scott to walk into the wall. Hogwarts, here we come! When we got inside the wall, we were met with wind, weird, and tunnels.
“I got it,” Malia said. “I got his scent.”
“What else would you get? His number?” I sassed.
Scott turned to look at me as I saw Malia's shoulders tense up.
“Not the time for jokes, I get it,” I said, hands up in surrender.
Malia started walking down the tunnel, us following her after a few steps.
~~~
After following Malia down the tunnels for God knows how long, she stopped at a pipe and swiped her finger across it. I looked at her finger, seeing blood on it.
“Please tell me that's yours,” I said.
“This is Noah's. He was here,” she informed.
“Touching other peoples blood. Lovely.”
“I think he's close,” she said, ignoring my statement. Good job.
Scott walked down a tunnel that was behind us. “Guys. I think we've been down tunnels like this before, like when we were looking for Liam and Hayden.”
Stiles and I walked over to Scott, standing in front of him.
“Okay, so what?” Stiles said.
Scott looked down the tunnel. “Maybe, it means we're closer than we think. Maybe there's something else down here. Something that we haven't found yet.” He turned his head back to face us.
“Yeah, nothing that helps Dad and Sheriff, Scotty,” I said.
“Look, she's right. We can't just be standing around here waiting for something to--” Stiles said.
I was knocked out of the way by an unseen force, sending Stiles to collide with the wall.
“Not again,” I said, crawling over to him. “Stiles. Babe, wake up. Wake the hell up or I'm gonna slap you.” I placed my hands on his shoulders, rubbing his arms. “Stiles, wake up.”
He lifted his right hand up by my face, so I grabbed it with mine, lacing our fingers together. “Babe. Stiles.” He opened his eyes as Scott helped me stand him up. He pulled me into another hug.
“You okay?” I asked.
“Yeah, fine,” he said.
“One more hit like that and you're gonna also be in the hospital.”
Malia's growls stopped my train of thought. I looked over and saw that she had a kid pinned to the ground.
“Freaking hothead,” I mumbled.
“Let me go, please, please,” the kid said. He looked over at Scott, Stiles and I. “They're coming.” He looked back up at Malia, who looked at us, fangs on display.
We all heard the sound of the Dread Doctors. Scott and Stiles looked to their right while I looked to my left down the tunnel, seeing if we were gonna be able to see them to no avail.
Stiles turned his head as Malia let the kid, who I soon recognized to be Noah, go. He let go of me and stopped Noah from running past us, pinning him to the wall.
“You're not going anywhere,” Stiles said.
“I said I don't remember,” Noah said.
I walked over to them. “You don't remember anything?” I asked, eyes narrowed.
“No. Not when it happens. Not when I change.”
“You clawed our dads half to death, okay, and now it's poisoning them,” Stiles said. “So you're gonna start remembering every detail right now.”
“Scott, I hear them,” Malia said.
“Yeah, I do, too,” Scott said. “Hey, guys, get him out of here. Go to the hospital. Figure out a way to save both your dads.”
“We're not gonna be able to stop them.”
“But we can slow them down. Stiles, Emma, go.”
Stiles looked back at Scott, who nodded his head. He looked back at me and I raised my left brow as I said, “As unbelievably hot as you're being right now, we really need to go or else we're gonna be attending a joint funeral for our dads, okay? Let's go.”
Stiles looked back at Noah, shoving him forward. I followed after them, hearing Scott grunting in pain. I couldn't think about that now. I just had to think about saving Dad and Sheriff.
I heard gunshots and was very confused by it. Why the hell was I hearing gunshots as we were running for our lives? We ended up at a gate that was locked with a chain around it.
Stiles picked it up, not believing we were being stopped by this lock. “Oh, damn it.”
“Step back,” Noah said. “I think I can break through it. It's just sometimes, most of the time, I lose control. So, you both better step back.”
“Okay,” Stiles said. He moved in front of me, backing me up a little with his arm out in a protective stance.
Noah rolled up his sleeves, ready to break this lock. He groaned as bones came out of his skin. He lifted his arm and slashed through the chain, unwrapping it from the gate, and pulling it open.
As he was doing this, I looked at one of the pieces of bone on his hand, seeing a little bit of blood.
“Babe, the bone on his hand, look. There's blood,” I said.
After Noah got the gate open, he looked at us. “Let's go.” He ran without seeing if we were still behind him or not.
Stiles took a couple of steps forward. “Call Melissa.”
I pulled out my phone and dialed her up.
“You got something?” she asked.
“It's bone marrow. There's bone in them,” I said. “A Chimera with Berserker type bones must've stabbed them, leaving a piece of bone in them. It's bone marrow poisoning.”
I hung up without another word, hoping to hear good news later.
~~~
We made it back to the hospital, walking through the doors. Melissa stood as she saw us walk in, giving us a relieved look and a nod.
Stiles and I ran from Scott, Malia and Argent. Didn't know he was back, but kudos. We made it to both our dads room. I laid beside him in his bed, carefully putting my arm around his middle. Mom sat in the chair beside the bed, holding his right hand since I was on his left.
I looked over at Stiles, a small smile on my face at the sight of our dads looking healthy again.
We both must've fallen asleep to the sounds of the heart monitors. I had woken up to the feeling of someone rubbing my arm. Looking up, I connected my eyes with my dad, tears filling them instantly.
I carefully hugged him, careful not to yank any cords. “I thought I was gonna lose you,” I softly cried.
“Never, sweetheart. I promise,” Dad said. He kissed the top of my head.
I opened my eyes, seeing Sheriff put his hand on Stiles' shoulder, causing Stiles to wake up. He sat up a little and looked at his dad.
“It's okay, Stiles. You still got me,” Sheriff said.
Stiles grabbed his Sheriff's hand before he turned his head over his shoulder, looking at me for a split second.
I held my dad just a little bit tighter before I fell right back asleep.
