Stevie Week | Day 2: Gender Euphoria | Prompt: First Dress

They had been planning this trip for weeks.

After Starcourt went up in flames and everyone tried to settle into a new normal where monsters could be people and people could be monsters, Stevie and Robin became inseparable. A sisterhood forged in blood on the floor of a dingy mall bathroom. Where one was, the other was surely not far behind. Dustin had commented on it exactly once before receiving matching scathing looks. None of the kids questioned their friendship afterward.

After their twin confessions while hiding from Russians and puking their guts out, Robin had made it her personal mission to help Stevie feel the most like herself. A difficult task in the face of small town midwestern prejudice. Robin did not let that stop her. She was determined.

Hence, the trip to Indy.

They had to do it before the school year started and neither of them had scored a new job yet, so they had plenty of free time. They somehow managed to inform the kids that they were going to be out of town without having to worry about any of them inviting themselves along. The two of them packed an overnight bag just in case and set out on the road. A little over two hours later and they were in the biggest city they had ever seen.

Robin took the lead, having done a great deal of research for this trip, and dragged Stevie all over town looking for haunts where they could be themselves. It felt like an adventure, like the two of them were just kids and monsters were just make-believe. They had settled in for lunch at a cute little cafe when Stevie started staring out the window. Robin turned around to see what she was looking at only to find a small boutique with a bright yellow baby doll dress posed in front of the display window.

Robin looked between Stevie and the dress, an idea forming.

The moment they finished their meal, Robin grabbed Stevie by the hand and dragged her into the boutique. Stevie was frozen, unsure what to do when faced with what she had always dreamed of but never dared to touch. Robin had no such compunctions, grabbing one of the yellow dresses, as well as a few others, and pulling Stevie into a changing room with her. Stevie bit her lip, her gaze flickering between staring longingly at the yellow dress and Robin’s determined face, overwhelmed by it all.

“You don’t have to put them on, Stevie,” Robin soothed. “But I think you should at least try one. What do you say?”

Stevie took a deep breath and turned around to strip out of her clothes, slipping on the yellow dress. It fit her perfectly. When she turned to show Robin, she was confronted by her own reflection in the dressing room mirror. She looked like a girl. She looked like herself.

Stevie giggled, her eyes tearing up. Robin smiled back, pride on her lips.

I’m on my Steve shit again I love this man. I hate that Peggy reacts so badly to this because even if you aren’t a Stucky shipper like he confided in her about how women never want to give him attention. At this point he and Peggy have only flirted a couple times he doesn’t really owe her anything. ALSO. This chick is on him like a shark. Shes literally tugging him in and yeah he could walk away but he quite literally doesn’t know what to do. He’s never had this happen before. And if Steve Rogers is one thing it’s a gentleman.
