qna) su reclaimed
this reply really brigthened my day thankyou! i havent posted in here or insta for forever, been busy with college but i always really wish to get back on my art projects, and this is one i am really fond of and always feel wistful to go back to.. im glad you like her!! to be honest, i initially planned to not redesign anything i didnt feel like i Had to, with the idea that itd try to tweak as little as possible until i managed to get SU into a series i could love again without feeling upset. but after its been some time, redesigning one of the characters completely is such a Major visual change that perhaps keeping Everything else intact makes her just stand out in a bad way? so perhaps i could like make small design tweaks to all the characters even if purely to adapt them more to a style im more comfortable with vs just copying the original.. i think its defintely worth considering. its hard to iterate on designs that are already so perfect like garnet for example but they could be just small tweaks in some places just for fun..
honestly a big obstacle i run into is that i love so many styles of media, that i keep not picking one specific medium to make the au into and i think it makes things more confusing. theres alot i could do.. from comics/graphic novels, ive even considered jsut, going to youtube and making a video just Explaining my au concept paired with images and music like ive seen some people do... id love to hear anyones thoughts on this if you are reading this post. no promises on time frame sadly, hoping i can graduate (unrelated) and then i can start to actually consider my time distribution on things like these

"can bi nbs say dyke" "can trans men say tranny" "can this specific identity reclaim this slur" ENOUGH !!! ALL that matters is whats in your heart when you say it. is there love for your community or is there hate for people not like you. are you saying it to hurt someone or to give a hurtful thing new love-filled meaning. theres your answer.
terfs are finding this now so just to head this off at the pass my tranny ass will not be debating you, you are going to be instantaneously blocked so you may as well save us both the trouble of typing out whatever long rant youre planning about how im an evil transsexual betraying the community by daring to call myself a faggot or w/e. also go fuck yourself
edit 2: hey terfies do you think perhaps that the fact you had to block me before purposefully starting fights with randos in my replies says something about the kind of people you are? do you think that's the kind of thing good people do? can you look yourself in the eyes and genuinely tell me that deep down you don't know that if you constantly have to lie and infiltrate and block evade to harass people, that just means youre a shit person? can you with a straight face say that doing these kinds of things actually feels morally sound, that there's no tiny sliver of yourself in there that knows youre acting like a piece of shit all the fucking time which is why everyone leaves you when they find out about your beliefs? could you honestly tell me that a person who acts like that is good, and that behaving like this actually makes you feel like you're adding something positive to the world? or is it just the rush that comes with punching a wall in rage?
you harass trans people for the same reason parents beat their children: it feels good to hurt other people when youre mad. it feels good to take your anger out on someone else. and so you find people you can hurt and you convince yourself youre doing it because theyre stronger than you, that youre fighting back, you punch and you punch and you keep punching on and on forever. because that anger is addicting and trans people have always and WILL always exist, so we will always be available as a target.
look at the way youre behaving and ask yourself if this is what you want to be doing with your life. and google the signs of a high-control group. and if youre going to be a piece of shit in my replies then at least don't be a major fucking coward about it. unless youre literally 12 you should not be arguing like a middle schooler starting fights about steven universe. grow the fuck up and get real problems

Oh good the Lorch is sending herself asks about me again.
[Lily's Post]
Oh yeah Lily calling marginalized people a "pick me" for not having the same exact opinions as you doesn't make you look bigoted at all.
Unlike you I don't think children's cartoons are activism. And my pointing at that some people like to try to downplay the lesbian themes in Steven Universe, or at least the way lesbians interact with the themes of the show, actually has nothing to do with the show itself.
Hey Lily did you know I also really don't like the word queer being thrown around, refuse to call myself that because it means strange and also dislike "anti-assimilationist" types?
Speaking of which:
[Lily's Post]
Yeah I say that about the kids telling me queer has been "reclaimed" for me. I would think you'd agree, Lily.
Those are two completely different concepts you dumbass. We can have gay content in mainstream media without it being insulting dreck driven by rainbow capitalism.
Lily is the one who basically wants the Hayes Code back. She wants every show and movie to tell her who is good, who is bad, what to think and for the bad guy to get thrown off a cliff at the end.
Lily just because those are the only two pieces of media YOU know I like doesn't mean that's all I like or have ever seen. Have you seen But I'm a Cheerleader? How about Saving Face?
Hey Lily if you'd actually watch my responses to you:
No I sneer at shows with bad depictions of gay characters when they have bad depictions of gay characters. Especially when they break their own spines patting themselves on the back for it.
Are you trying to get ahead of my VOD you falsely struck going back up on Thursday? You know the one where you said an early 2000's flaming queen stereotype in some shitty Alicia Silverstone vehicle was super good "gay rep" because you had some retarded need to paint a narrative that Canadian cartoons "did it first"?
The whole "she's just mad other shows are outpacing things she likes" lol it isn't a competition, dawg. That's you, Lily. That's how you think.
This is how I know its a self ask.
Yeah that's why in my reaction to James Somerton's somehow EVEN WORSE takes on Utena than yours I kept saying things like "Utena isn't really that hard to understand it just tells it's story in a very abstract way".
Also if you think the Sword of Dios is "the sword of patriarchy" you really didn't get it but much like James here I doubt you ever even watched it, Lily. I look forward to your "In a Nutshell" video where you will read out TVTropes with zero context and get everything wrong.
Lily I hadn't watched the show fully in over 15 years when I made my very first video on you. I wasn't even expecting to talk about Utena you just went on a tirade about it in the middle of your 2023 Steven Universe video.
In fact, the reason I even cut that video in the first place is I was so impressed with my own recall of the show. And then it got 5k hits out of nowhere on my then completely unestablished channel because people just hate your takes that much.
youtube
And now making fun of you has paid for my new GPU and CPU. No Man's Sky is running great and I'm ready for Dragon Age Veilguard so cheers!

Say It Again
Chapter 2 - Unyielding Detective
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼
Rating: Mature
Category: M/M
Fandom: Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
Relationship: Steve McGarrett/Danny "Danno" Williams
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼
There’s a blue shirt in my closet I never wear. Too slim-fit, too stiff at the collar, sleeves that ride up when I move. I don’t even remember why I bought it. Probably some misguided attempt at looking “Hawaii casual” when I first moved here. It still smells faintly of laundry detergent I no longer use.
So when I shuffle into my room at 7:42 a.m. and find Steve already in my kitchen again, frying eggs like he’s auditioning for a cooking show, the last thing I expect him to say is:
“Wear the blue one.”
I freeze mid-step, one sock half-on, looking like I just walked into a parallel universe. “What?”
He doesn’t look up from the pan, spatula moving with surgical precision. “That shirt. The one with the buttons. It looks good on you.”
I blink, brain scrambling to catch up. “How do you even know which- Wait, no. Never mind. I don’t want to know.”
“You left your closet open last week. I saw it.” His voice is casual, like he’s commenting on the weather, not my wardrobe.
“I leave my closet open once and now you’re my personal stylist? No. I’m wearing the gray one.” I cross my arms, leaning against the counter, trying to reclaim some authority in my own kitchen.
He flips the eggs, not a single yolk breaking. Show-off. “Blue’s better. Trust me.”
“Trust you? You’re the guy who thinks cargo pants are a personality trait.” I point at his khaki monstrosities, which I’m convinced he owns in bulk. “I’m not wearing it.”
Steve finally looks up, that stupid half-smirk spreading across his face like he’s already won. “You’ll wear it.”
“Will not.” I narrow my eyes, doubling down. “You don’t get to waltz in here, commandeer my stove, and start dictating my fashion choices like you’re Coco Chanel with a Navy SEAL tattoo.”
He snorts, sliding the eggs onto two plates with infuriating ease. “Coco Chanel didn’t have my biceps.”
“Wow. Humble.” I grab a fork, pointing it at him for emphasis. “I’m wearing gray, and you’re gonna deal with it. End of discussion.”
“Danno, you’re gonna wear the blue one, and you’re gonna thank me later.” He slides a plate toward me, the eggs steaming, bacon on the side because of course he knows I’m weak for bacon.
I glare at the plate like it’s a bribe. “You think you can just cook your way into my closet? This is a dictatorship. You’re a dictator.”
“Dictator with breakfast.” He leans back against the counter, crossing his arms, mimicking my stance. “Eat. Then go change.”
I sit, muttering about tyranny, and take a bite. The eggs are perfect, fluffy, just the right amount of salt. Too good for a guy who probably learned to cook over a campfire in a warzone. I don’t tell him that. Instead, I chew aggressively, like it’s a protest. “I’m not changing.”
He sips his coffee, watching me over the rim of the mug. “You’re adorable when you’re stubborn.”
“Adorable? I’m a grown man, Steven. I’m not adorable. I’m formidable. Intimidating, even.” I stab a piece of bacon for emphasis.
“Intimidating in gray? Nah. Blue’s your power color.” He’s grinning now, full-on, and it’s like the sun decided to rise in my kitchen.
“Power color? What is this, a self-help seminar? You read that in a magazine at the dentist or something?” I shove the plate aside, standing to make my escape. “I’m done with this conversation. Gray shirt, end of story.”
I stalk to my room, muttering about boundaries and how I’m burning that blue shirt the first chance I get. I grab the gray one, defiantly buttoning it up, but Steve’s voice echoes in my head. It looks good on you. I glance at the blue shirt, hanging there like it’s mocking me. “No,” I tell it, like it’s sentient. “You don’t get to win.”
Back in the kitchen, Steve’s cleaning the pan, looking smug. “Nice choice,” he says, eyeing my gray shirt.
“Don’t start.” I grab my keys, already regretting letting him in my house. Again. “Let’s go before you try to rearrange my furniture too.”
The eggs were good, though. I’ll give him that. Not out loud.
We’re out the door, the morning already drenched in Steve’s chaos. We catch a minor case: stolen boat, some rich guy’s son joyriding with tourists. Nothing major, but enough to justify driving up the coast, checking marinas, interviewing hungover witnesses who all seem to think Steve is a cop from a movie.
“He’s not a character,” I explain to a girl with purple hair and three piercings in her eyebrow. “He’s just like that. That’s his real face.”
She doesn’t believe me, giggling as Steve flashes her a smile that could probably get him elected governor.
Steve, of course, is thriving. He gets a lead out of her in thirty seconds and throws me the keys as we head back to the car.
“Want to drive?” he asks.
“Do I want to? Yes. Will I get to? Probably not, because you’re a control freak who thinks I drive like a Jersey grandma.”
He grins, tossing the keys anyway. “You look good today.”
I pause, hand on the car door. “What?”
“The shirt. Told you.” His eyes flick to my chest, and I realize he’s messing with me.
“Oh, now you’re rewriting history? I’m wearing gray, genius. Your Jedi mind tricks don’t work on me.” I roll my eyes, sliding into the driver’s seat. “Stop looking at me.”
“Too late.” He climbs in, stretching out like the passenger seat was built for him.
I start the car, muttering about how I’m burning all my shirts later. “You’re insufferable, you know that?”
“And yet, you’re driving me around.” He’s got that smug tone again, the one that makes me want to either punch him or laugh.
“Only because I’m a saint,” I shoot back, pulling onto the road.
At HQ, the team’s in their usual rhythm. Kono’s hunched over her laptop, watching surveillance footage with the intensity of someone defusing a bomb. Chin’s at his desk, tinkering with some gadget that looks like it could either hack a satellite or brew coffee, I don’t ask.
Steve strides in like he’s about to brief us on a global conspiracy, while I trail behind, still annoyed about the shirt thing. Kono looks up, smirking.
“Nice shirt, Danny,” she says, leaning back in her chair. “Very… neutral.”
I point at her. “Don’t you start. I’ve had enough fashion commentary for one day.”
Steve, leaning against the table, grins. “Told him to wear the blue one.”
Kono’s eyebrows shoot up. “Blue? Oh, that would’ve been a vibe. Why’d you veto it, Danny?”
“Because I’m not his Barbie doll!” I throw my hands up, collapsing into a chair. “I don’t need Captain Cargo Pants over here curating my wardrobe.”
Chin, without looking up from his gadget, chimes in. “Blue’s a good color on you, though. Brings out your eyes.”
I stare at him, betrayed. “Et tu, Chin? What is this, a conspiracy? Did Steve bribe you all with breakfast?”
“Nah, just facts,” Chin says, finally glancing up with a grin. “But if there’s bacon involved, I’m listening.”
Steve laughs, clapping Chin on the shoulder. “Next time, I’ll bring enough for everyone.”
“Excuse me,” I cut in, “can we focus? Stolen boat, joyriding kid, actual police work? Or are we just gonna talk about my closet all day?”
Kono snickers, spinning her laptop toward us. “Relax, Danny. Got a hit on the boat’s GPS. It’s docked at a marina near Waimea. You two want to check it out, or should we keep debating your fashion choices?”
“Waimea,” Steve says, already moving toward the door. “Let’s go, Danno.”
I groan, grabbing my coffee. “Stop calling me that in front of the team. It’s unprofessional.”
“Unprofessional’s your face in that gray shirt,” Steve shoots back, dodging the pen I chuck at him.
Kono calls after us, “Wear the blue one next time, Danny! Trust your stylist!”
I flip her off as we leave, but I’m smiling despite myself. This team’s gonna be the death of me.
The rest of the day unfolds as before: marina interviews, Steve’s high-octane energy, the lagoon case wrapping up with minimal chaos. But the morning’s shirt debate lingers, a small thread in the tapestry of Steve’s relentless presence. By the time he’s at my door with takeout that night, I’m too tired to fight it. Boundaries? Maybe tomorrow.

Infinite- ;; A term related to being infinitely something, an alternate to "perma-" that has 0 connections to RQs. However people who reclaim perma- and are not RQs can use it! I am well aware that perma- was like transage and didn't have bad beginnings, but i just figured i'd make a new term.
I rather not have drama or disk horse about this because i like the term. Its more of a personal take anyway, but people are free to use it.
( example; infinitekid. Infinitekitty. Etc )
Notes ;; Symbols are from iconfinder.com
I decided to go with stars instead of an infinity symbol since its used in the autistic flags. Also space is infinite! The heart because we deserve love.
Creation ;; 6 / 7 / 2024
Some examples + already made Terms ;;
[ID: four flags. The first one is a flag with five stripes. The colors are white, blue, mint green, yellow and pink. The second one has a light purple heart in the middle. We need to reclaim The Legend of Korra from Lorch like we did Steven Universe.
Namely a lot of us have to respond to her two vidoes after revisiting the show proper. We can get bent out of shape over our pet peeves over LoK but Lorch's views are very much a part of the hatedom the show's accurred. The more it festers, the more it will promote poor faith criticism that more often than not comes from people who never saw the show for themselves.
Because her videos often got by on people who didn't know about the subject and took her word for it. We can take back this power by re-engaging with The Legend of Korra and seeing not for what it wasn't but for what it was and trying to be.
It's right there on Netflix, people.

"i love toxic yuri as long as it's not toxic" is a social phenomena that makes a lot of sense
toxic yuri became a thing in the first place to fight against those who tear every yuri ship apart and calls them problematic. there were steven universe yuri ships that were being called problematic because they were too codependent. there is no way to appease the hateful masses. they talk about loving yuri in theory, but hate every yuri that exists in pratice
toxic yuri was a way to reclaim that and instead of trying to make a wholesome yuri that won't be called problematic we have gone all out and made problematic yuri with no shame
but eventually things like toxic yuri become a meme and it's cool to be the girl who ships toxic yuri. so we lower the bar further and further and call more and more things toxic yuri
just like all critiques of capitalism are absorbed by it, all attempts at fighting against purity are also absorbed by it. "yeah we all love toxic yuri, but that one is too toxic" they love toxic yuri in theory, but hate all instances of it in practice

This blog is really fulfilling my near constant need for long lectures over fandoms that I never really get to flex out huh? I'm going to start making powerpoints. Alright, time to explain Ivankov and Bon Clay with a quick history of the LGBTQ+ community in Japan. Disclaimer: I am not Japanese, I am from a western country, but I will try to do my best to summarize the history and connotations to the best of my ability. I also do understand that some of the genderqueer characters do seem to be based on stereotypes, but that will be explored.
Okama is slang interchangeably used for gay men, drag queens, gender nonconforming men, and transgender women. It is very similar to the English word "Queer," especially in the idea that current members of the LGBTQ+ community are attempting to reclaim it as a positive phrase, rather than the slur that has been used against them. A large part of Japan still conflates gay with crossdressing or transgenderism, which is why homosexual men are sometimes referred to as okama (literally a 'pot' but meaning something similar to the English word 'queen') and are usually represented as cross-dressed and effeminate. The use of the term okama derives from the slang usage of the term to refer to the buttocks and thereby to anal sex which is considered to be the definitive sexual act engaged in by homosexual men. Homosexuality in Japan has had a fraught history that I do not have the character space to completely include here. Bon Clay is a character that first appeared in One Piece in the year 2000. Now, I know a lot of modern day fandoms do not understand the history of queer characters in media. This was long before we had shows like The Owl House, Steven Universe, Yuri on Ice, or She-Ra (I can't think of a lot of modern queer anime off hand). We had very little canon queer characters, at at the time, it was far more common for queer characters to either be women (Sailor Uranus, Utena), or male villains. And Bon Clay was not only queer, he was an out and proud Okama. He was referred to both as a man and a woman, and sang an entire song "Okama Way/Oh Come My Way." Bon Clay, despite being a villain, got a redemption, he befriended the Strawhats, and helped them to escape from Alabasta, even though he himself was sent to jail instead.
“One may stray from the path of a man. One may stray from the path of a woman. But there is no straying from the path of a human!”
In the end, this world is broken down to men and women But I'm a man who is a woman So I'm the best (the strongest) The best (strongest!) OH COME MY WAY
Emporio Ivankov
As Mod pointed out, his design is based off of Doctor Frank N' Furter from Rocky Horror Picture show and Norio Imamura, a real life Okama and a member of Mayumi Tanaka's acting troupe whom Oda met. Ivankov is gender fluid and uses their fruit to switch between whatever sex characteristics they want to have. Ivankov refers to himself as a "Newkama", as opposed to an "Okama". This is a double pun made by mixing words. It basically goes "Newhalf" (Transgender) + Okama (Crossdresser) = Newkama (Newcomer). Newkama claim to go beyond the concept of gender since almost every one of them has experienced life in both male and female bodies thanks to Ivankov's Horu Horu no Mi. Also, there is a question on what pronouns Iva uses, with in the Japanese text, they appear to use something like Neo-pronouns, always replacing the first character with a V in the pronouns they are using (Vatashi vs Watashi for "I" but I do not know enough Japanese to speak on this or how their pronouns should be translated)
She was the queen of NewKama Land in Impel Down, a secret haven inside of the prison where prisons escaped to. (This is why Mod jokes that One Piece fandom took over Horny Jail, we have a gay club in our jail in source material that was created by a transgirl and maintained by genderqueer okamas. We cannot be stopped). She is also a member of the Revolutionary Army, (MANGA Spoilers: A former slave), and Queen of Kamabakka Queendom, a place where okamas can be free to live their lives with no criticism and to just, be themselves.
Now, I understand why the artstyle turns people off and makes them seem like harmful stereotypes, and they aren't always treated well in the story. While Luffy is extremely accepting of Ivankov and Bon Clay (The only people in the entire story he refers to with honorifics are them, and he uses female honorifics, Iva-Chan and Bon-Chan), Sanji has shown to be pretty transphobic. But I also think that they encapsulate the messages of One Piece: Complete and Utter Freedom. The Freedom to be true to yourself, to live your authentic life, and to live without regrets. These characters are not only strong, respectable, and free, but they fight for that freedom for others as well.
There is no queerbaiting in One Piece. The only canon LGBTQ+ Identities we have are the transgender characters, probably attributed to Oda not wanting to write romance, and thus it is harder to make canon gay/lesbian/bi ect characters. Luffy, on the other hand, is argued heavily whether he's canonically aro/ace, or just heavily coded. We have other queer characters as well, especially in Wano. Kiku is a transwoman, and Yamato is a transman. Bon Clay, Ivankov, Inazuma, and other "Okamas" are genderqueer, although the identies may not translate nicely into English. Some of it may not have aged well as well (The use of "Transvestite" for example). But overall, the LGBTQ+ Identities have been respected by the narrative of the source material if not necessary by the characters or author. (And definitely not by some fans). Its also important to remember, Bon Clay was introduced in 2000. Kiku was introduced in 2018, that is nearly 20 years to learn how to depict trans people. She has no gags, she just exists as she is. Oh, and none of the queer characters die in the series, and Bon Clay even has the quote "Queers will never die!"
(Morley should probably be added to this analysis, as a transgender woman who pretty controversial, but she doesn't appear much in the manga/anime so I don't know a lot about her lol. I'm also not going to touch the "debate" of Yamato's gender here)

Well done! Great job! You deserve a cookie. Because this is why I love Defend Your Blurbo. Emporio Ivankov and Bon Chan would be proud of you
Fun fact, the horny jail reference actually comes from the bg3 fandom and the narrator outtakes. I just think it's very appropriate for the One Piece Fandom at least when it comes to my blog and what you guys have put me through

SU reclaimed pearl rambles
im gonna use some annoying comments i got on my reclaimed pearl as a springboard for what i think could be interesting discussion because i think its good to engage with criticism/different opinions. but also if you talk to me like an asshole i want you to fuck off and i promised i wouldnt engage in that kind of stuff bc its not good for me and it doesnt Look good for me either.
so i can talk about my thoughts but not engage directly, win win. its been months but im still really fond of the pearl i made specially this art. like it coudl be better but i like it well enough. just a little header so this isnt a boring post with only text
i think like, its good to establish ground rules that like, i think most of the poor reactions ive seen towards my art were missing, mostly in bad faith probably but in case theres ppl who earnestly want to understand. actually maybe i can format it like a little FAQ even though theyre not frequent or asked lskdjg just for outlining my points. ill put it behind a cut but ill frontline w this: if youre a fan of pearl in the show, this content is not for you. youre allowed to like whatever you want and so am i. if you like her, we probably wont get along and you probably will feel very personally irritated by how i FEEL about her, so just walk away now. im not gonna engage with petty shit taht juts boils down to 'im mad you dont like what i like'
onwards to more rambling / sorta responding to some criticism
i scrolled back and i guess i sorta never have actually done a proper full explanation post about this AU have i? or maybe i have and deleted it, i forgor
why did you change pearl?
because i hate her, simple as. i went from a huge SU fan to hating watching it (i did finish) and pearl is probably The biggest reason why, as like issues with her character seep into other aspects of the show that i also hate. like i mean i Realyl hate her. she makes the experience of watching the show really irritating and miserable for me. if you dont feel taht way about her thats totally normal and whatever but no one is gonna change my experience and feelings that i had watching SU since the 1st season was coming out.; anyway answering. there is a Lot i love about SU and want to engage with, so i had the idea of like, maybe ill just change pearl, cause i wanted to delete her, really, but she is one of the main characters and she hasa function as a character that you cant just do away with. essentially im just like, some guy, who draws, coping and trying to reclaim his teenage investimetn in this show. literally its just for ME. but if anyone else feels like i do, then they can enjoy it too. if somoene doesnt feel like i do, go watch like pearl fancams or smth. like ill never be able to literlaly change the show as it is, like its happened, and its a tragedy im trying to move on from (begrudgingly)
why do you hate pearl?
the long laundry list of reasons are probably apparent in the ways i remade her lol (theyre not i can tell ppl are gonna project whatever worst bad faith reason for any change i make) but tbh the core of it is this, which is like, beyond whatever traits she has and whatever: she reminds me of my abusers. always had, from season 1, but like it became worse as the series went on. its like really infurating and upsetting to watch SU bc of her. had my abusers been a different kind of person, maybe i wouldnt hate her so much (kinda doubt tbh). like her personality and behavior are like hough disgosting!!
why did you change (some physical trait about her design)?
i dont really necessarily have a PROBLEM with canon pearls design. over the years ive come to like SU's style less and less but like, gestures, whatever. like i didnt like it or anything but its not like a bit deal compared to the actual offender that is her personality and behavior. the reason i redesigned her at all is bc like, if i hadnt, i would still be thinking about the way she is in canon all the time. like ive visually associated her like, appearance with all the shit about her thta makes me upset so i had to so she didnt look like the same person anymore, and i can try to let go of some of the hatred in my heart. like i want to think about the thigns about SU that i loved and also the potential i always saw in it and canon pearl is like, an active obstacle to that, to the point taht i cant even see her without getting like irked. i tried to keep enough similar traits so from a glance youd be like, who the fuck- is that pearl? rather than like. completely change her entirely to whatever i wanted. i do want to like, its a creative exercise. i want to try and change the things that would make me happy to see gone but try to work within the constraints of the SU we Did get as much as i can tolerate. bc like.... if the sky was the limit then at this poin wed just have to throw the whole thing away and start from scratch. like its kinda not really very salvageable, like im not rewirting SU to be like a Good show or fix Everything, its kinda too broken. im just chnaging enough so i can look at the actual show, screenshots, songs etc, and not feel overcome wtih like the grief and irriatation of how much it sucked ass. its just so i can enjoy more of it again
i dont like your redesign for (insert reason)
cool. thanks for your input. youre welcome! eat my asshole. seriously though, like, shrugs. i didnt make it for anyone other than myself. tbh im not fully satisfied with it either bc i think the SU style is kinda ugly, so im at a crossroads. should i mostly abandon the SU style? ive like, tested out tweaking things, it mightve been noticeable in screenshot redraws. drawing within the SU style is to create that coping 'oh it was totally like this haha' vibe but maybe im old enough to not need that anymore lol. like ive heard ppl say shit like shes ugly, or like sneakily trying to imply im like, got some agenda over beauty or racism etc. like whatever, think whatever you want, its not for you. go back to sucking up to rebecca or smth like i cant take the og pearl away from you still i am open for like that kind of criticism like, do i have personal biases affecting my design decisions? probably. i do try to keep aware of why im choosing certain things, but really in this case i cant emphasize enough how like, irritating it is that i have to change her design at all. like its hard to come up w smth else when the rest of the cast ahs already been design to balance off the og pearl. i probably wouldnt change almost anything if the sight of her didnt piss me the fuck off! most of all i kinda wouldve preferred to keep her hair short bc it messes up the sillouete but it makes me think too much of canon pearl so i made it long :/ i was like let me tell you my design thought process: -im gonna try to keep as many recognizable traits about her design while taking away bit by bit until she doesnt look like the og pearl to me anymore and i dont feel angry seeing her. pearl is lanky, tall, spindly, with a gem on the forehead, blue white pink yellow pastel colors, large pointed nose. i kinda tried to keep these traits while slightly tweaking their design until she looked different enough. is it a good design? eh idk. like the purpose is to make me not hate her and it does that job
now this hate comment im gonna grace with keeping it intact except removing the person bc its not about them. its like, a very stupid ass headed comment but im actually kind of interested in like, jumping off of it to ponder some things
im not heterosexual or cis enough to know what exactly wife bate means in this context so im gonna like guess, that maybe i could extract this q from that reply (also not looking like shes from steven universe is a compliment thanks)
you took away her personality and made her boring
the only thing i can assume is that like, some people must interpret the absence of an assholey personality or like abusive behavior is 'boring'. i know thats a really bad faith assumption but like, if ive written down a bunch of personality traits and you still come out saying thats 'no personality' what am i to make of that lol. based on my experience like Existing online, people tend to often call nice characters 'boring', like dude ive done it before, but i think im kinda over that edgy phase. also again, its for me and not for you so if you think shes boring, thanks for your input i dont care. but thinkign about it earnestly, i dfeintely dont want to make a character thats just no flaw and not interesting ofc, i havent done that with reclaimed pearl. that being said i havent like, probably written a lot demonstrating what i want her to be like instead of the canon pearl so, maybe ppl just are feeling lost with the lack of information.
personally, if i hear someone thinks a character is boring bc theyre not abusive anymore like, nothing of value has been lost. but characters do need flaws in order to create conflict and cause things to happen, like in a way canon pearl is like All flaw, which wouldnt be a problem except she gets away wtih all the horrible shit she did. heres some traits i want to explore with reclaimed pearl, some are similar to canon i just wanna go about it a different way: being overprotective/possessive to steven in a smothering way, projecting abandonment issues, not reaching out/communicating her emotions properly, lacking indepedence/self worth, depending on others to avoid confronting her own issues, being very passive and insecure and lacking initiative (this being the totally opposite trait that canon pearl has), stunting stevens development due to her not being ready for him to grow up and not need her anymore. and more, this is just from the top of my head. maybe thats still too 'boring' for ppl because shes not being selfish and inconsiderate enough to others so you can relate to her but i dont care :p
gosh how do i go about like, presenting the content i ahve in my head for this AU).. i cantjust remake the whole damn show. i would if i could, tbh
i have concerns about racist implications wrt (insert thing here about my redesign)
imma be frank. i dont know how to compltely 'clean up' any possible bad associations wrt pearl as a character given how like, rebecca has literally like, made her to be a slave in love with her slave owner and made it to be like, an uwu ideal lesbiab thing for most of the show until they tried to pretend no we understood the flaws in this dynamic all along and its bad actually , uhh, anyway shows over haha
ill say the main reason i changed her skintone is, bc that would be the like most instant way to make her look differnt from canon (which is vital for me for the reasons said above), and i did consider like, does this make the whole thing worse, or, ?? like, as they made it in the show, techincally All the gems are slaves to the diamonds, arent they? including all the very totally progressive poc based gems including and specially the ones who are made to be understood as black women. bruh like idk what to tell you this show is just fuckig bad sdlgkj like its just way too like, pervasive in my teen years forme to throw the baby w the bathwater entirely. and ill just straight up say it, like, im not a specialist on these topics nor do i hav ea position of authority to speak on about it. like the pearls read more clearly as slaves (very intentionally by the showrunners) bc they are meant to be subservient to gems Other than diamonds. and also bc they like fit in the stereotype of housemaid servant. like the rubies being made to just be forced to go and fight like they are slaves too, they have no rights and no like, authority to disobey or autonomy. but fsr like, slavery as in physical labor just doesnt immeidately set off ppls alarms as much as housework slavery does fsr.
i can only rly like change the canon so much and try to like, tweak things so it doesn feel as gross but i think for it to be cmpletely not insneistive at all youd have to throw away the whole show. and like i said, this isnt like me saying like im making the show good or as it shouldve been, im making it so I (and ppl who share my feelings about the show) can feel less shitty just thinking back to it. its just an exercise. im not like mass media im just one independent artist and shit will come out insensitve sometimes and im sorry but im also like, my art isnt meant to be representative and like, responsiuble for fixing all of society and racism like i actually cant do that. ill just do the best i can as an asian dude but like, if my work makes you upset, im sorry, but also just block me. like i cant please everyone. or like, even better, make YOUR take on pearl taht you feel would be better, like make the art you feel should exist.
this post is too damn long and id be surprised if anyone reads all of it but if you do, tahnk you! i felt kinda like ready to fight tonight so im triyng to redirect it from aggression to like, thinking. i cant guarantee im making new content for su reclaimed anytime soon but i would really like to, tbh

I feel a very specific way about discussing the flaws in Steven Universe. I love Steven Universe, I’ve been a fan since 2014. I acknowledge many of its flaws and debate against the ones I believe to not be there or blown out of proportion. Overall I think it’s a very good show, and was essential for queer representation in cartoons to become more mainstream.
However when people try to discuss its flaws, or in too many cases simply express hatred for the shows and it’s fans, I get very angry and defensive, which I feel is in my right. Because for years people did nothing but beat this show to death without even acknowledging that hey, the show has so many good things about it as well. Like, people beat this show so much for so many years that I don’t think it ever deserves to be beaten ever again. Everyone that made any Steven Universe hate content (not actual criticism, but those made in bad faith) should all apologize to Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey like right now, and every young fan that you made feel like a bad person for enjoying a gay little show that made them happy. Because at the end of the day, that show did a good thing.
All that show got was hatred for years. Please just let us show it some love to reclaim the years when it was considered cringe to like Steven Universe. This show never deserved the massive bashing it got all those years ago.
Also, shows can be flawed and still be good. I see so many very flawed movies and shows and books get so much love. Why did everyone wanna tear down SU so much while other shows just got to live in peace.

Anyway, one of the most underrated examples of character growth on Steven Universe was definitely pearl. She started out still holding onto the need to express femininity visually, which was how she was initially created.
The first significant steps to her independence involved her taking a much more neutral outfit.

It was only after fully self-actualising that she chose her own look fully departed from her intended purpose, and that included overcoming jealousy and insecurity over her role among the other gems.
She was literally created exclusively to follow orders and look pretty, and in overcoming that she became SIGNIFICANTLY less femme, reclaimed her ability to eat and drink, change her shape, and approach, even tentatively, the possibility of romantic affection from people other than the person she was "meant" for.

Idk man, obviously she was gay, but this is such an obvious allegory for feminist liberation from under authoritarianism, even if it was liberation from something she initially wanted because she'd been born in an environment where that was the norm.
She doesn't have to be perfect, and she's not a specific allegory for any kind of human apart from a closeted lesbian in a controlling society.

Story Summary: What would happen if the Crystal Gems had settled down in a place other than Beach City, a little backwoods town just west of weird…? What if, upon coming to Gravity Falls for the summer, Dipper and Mabel were to befriend Steven and Connie? What kind of magical, mysterious adventures would they have? And, how would they fare against the combined threats of merciless Homeworld Gems and a certain triangular demon?
Find out what happens when Magic and Mystery meet in Universe Falls...
Chapter Summary: Steven, Dipper, and Mabel decide to help Pearl see the stars again, only for their starbound mission to quickly get out of hand once the very Gem they're trying to help gets involved. “Whoa…” An awestruck gasp rose up from the kids the second the light surrounding the warp pad faded. The Gems had agreed to bring them along on their latest mission following their successful quest to reclaim the waterfall. Upon seeing how well Steven, Dipper, and Mabel had handled themselves then, they had few concerns about letting them come on this reconnaissance mission. In no small part because it would be simple, short, and most of all, safe . “Welcome to the Galaxy Warp!” Pearl proclaimed, stepping on the pad first. Surrounding it was a vast collection of other warps, all damaged in some way or another as they sat upon a shimmering platform raised high above the open sea. “This hub was once used by Gemkind to quickly travel to and from Earth in a matter of mere minutes. Impressive, isn’t it?” “Yeah…” Mabel grinned, stars in her eyes. “And sparkly !” “To and from Earth…” Dipper echoed thoughtfully. “You mean from Homeworld, right?”

Y'know, I woke up today and went, "Bloxburg Lore" and that's exactly what I'll be talking about. Specifically about a specific video that's a fun introspective into two characters, Susan & Sabrina
The specific video I'm going to be talking about is this one by Robuilds and compare it to canon and just analyze the movie. (No hate to them or anyone who made the movie, in fact go check it out, this is just a fun little analysis and comparison to C! Sabrina and C! Susan) (Yes, these two have lore in Bloxburg, I'll get to that in a moment)
youtube
(I can't take this thumbnail seriously-) Sabrina (the witch) actually contrasts Susan (the blonde girl with red glasses) a lot within the movie itself. Sabrina is canonically friends with Susan in the actual Bloxburg, found in her quest line,
"So... I spoke to my friend Susan, and she said that Alan had caught something fishy."
Meaning in that Bloxburg movie Susan, she just like "Yo Susan, want this old building I have?" And Susan was just like "Yeah, sure why not" Sabrina doesn't even seem too worried in the movie, she's so chill like, "Ah yes the fate of Bloxburg lies in your hands... blah blah witch magic stuff slurps drink anyway take these powers and like get outta here" until the end. The basic plot relevance for these two in the movie is that, Susan had a magic book that she found in her shop's basement. Because the building used to belong to Sabrina (in this movie/au) and Susan found that magical book and went wild with power, messing with the other shops so they wouldn't have customers. Because she wants them to feel how she feels on the daily, being ignored and treated harshly. And Sabrina faces off against her in the climax.
(what I'm assuming based on the context of the movie).
"I left that basement behind to make things safer for the people in Bloxburg. It was never meant to be used as a weapon. That spellbook was made to help the community in Bloxburg. To create a stronger bond between the people."
"The only bond this spell book should be creating is between me and the other realms, I don't care about the past. All I care about is how strong I am going to be NOW."
This exchange feels like it could've been some redemption for Susan, since it's clear that she's deeply hurt by the fact she's been isolated from the community or people of Bloxburg in this movie. Like ah yes, Susan just casually found the spell book Susan is quite literally going on a power trip right now. But that's primarily due to the fact she was all alone and left alone in Fancy Furniture for so long and found the book in the first place.
Oh yeah, Susan tampering with shit when she feels ignored is absolutely canon btw. Something that the official Bloxburg twitter account posted.
Sabrina could in fact, go beat the shit out of Susan herself, even calling Susan's power weak, and she does match her.
But instead of going full blast on Susan, Sabrina is still trying to get through to Susan instead. Like girly pop could just blast Susan into nothing.
"Stop this Susan, you're going about this all wrong."
"NEVER!!" Susan tries to zap Sabrina only for her to dodge it.
She quite literally goes Steven Universe in the middle of their confrontation, Sabrina tries to reason with her, despite taking two lightning bolts from her. She doesn't attack Susan until she thinks that Susan won't listen to her otherwise.
"I didn't want it to end this way.. but you leave me no choice."
Sabrina saying to Susan that the power was controlling her, and isn't even mad at her. Just wanting her to quit and snap out of it.
"This ends now, Susan. You can't control the power. The power is controlling you."
As if knowing she's not at complete fault for what happened, I wonder if Sabrina felt some guilt for seeing her friend end up this way and ultimately being the reason for her decent down a dark path.
"This isn't over! MARK MY WORDS! I WILL RECLAIM WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE!"
"I told you, Susan. The power controlled you. You're powerless now."
Sabrina's soft voice at all times in the movie, in stark contrast to Susan's constant yelling. As if Susan's finally done with being ignored and wants people to see her, even if it's for a bad reason. Wouldn't be the first time she's done something like this due to those reasons.
Movie! Susan is ultimately a tragic character, one who went mad with power merely because she was ignored by the community and thought that book was the only way to finally get people to pay attention to her. And considering her canon counter part isn't treated much better, I think this is a reflection of character. No wonder Sabrina's whole spiel about helping the community and uniting them annoyed Susan so much.
For the message of the movie to be "unity concurs all", the one character who's actively been hurt by said community is the one left as the villain.
It would've been more fitting if Susan was redeemed too, like she realized that the community coming together does care about her and they could really use that "power of friendship" that the movie is trying to sell. Sabrina repeatedly even says the whole, "The power is using you. It controlled you." would've given some leeway for her to be redeemed. But apparently not, the message seemingly is, "The community unites together to defeat a villain of their own making." Nothing changed in the end, Susan's shop is left more abandoned than it ever was, representing how she was pushed to her limits. Now I get that she pursued that power, but if you consider how she's treated in the movie, it makes sense why she went there. Not that it justifies it, but it certainly make more sense of it. If that book really was meant to unite Bloxburg, then it fell into the wrong hands BECAUSE of how they treated Susan. They made her feel like nobody cared about her, and that book gave her a chance to make people see her. If they treated her nicely as the other stores in Bloxburg, then maybe she could've helped the community prosper even more. But that didn't happen. It did unite Bloxburg in a way, but not in the way Sabrina wanted, because it fell into the hands of the one person who was treated badly by everyone.

First off, I'm really sorry about everything that's been happening around your blog. This AU has been such a huge source of comfort for me in my everyday life, and it pains me to see jerks with nothing better to do than to ruin the happiness of others affect this blog so much. However, on a different note, if you would be so kind as to let me tell you about a daydream I had about your AU, that would be just the most!
So, I was revisiting some old fandoms of mine, and I suppose those began mixing with the ESAU at some point. You know the song "Drift Away" from Steven Universe? I was thinking about how sad it was when the ESAU popped into my mind and OH BOY. I thought about this little scenario! (I apologize for the poor writing):
One of the many Master reincarnations that stuck with Macaque was the long gone Master *Gertrude. It wasn't because she led an interesting life or had special affections for him, but rather that she abandoned him. Fed up with him for being the most affectionate and always in her space, she brought him out into a field. Alone. She smiled and hugged him, something Macaque couldn't have recalled her ever doing towards him in the past, before telling him to stand still in the open field and not to move until she came back. Macaque had wanted to ask her questions about where she was going when she gave him her next and final command, to not ask her questions. With that, she left, and Macaque sensed a feeling of strong joy coming from her and, well, if his Master was happy, than he was overjoyed! And so he waited. Minutes passed by, then hours, then days and a week. And before Macaque knew it, months had gone by, follows by years. Years of standing and waiting for his Master to come back with him, with nothing but the occasional bird or rabbit passing by, which he would snatch up and eat to feed himself and keep himself busy. But Macaque couldn't understand the situation, couldn't understand why any of this was happening, until one day when he saw the other champions coming his way. By this point, the grass in the field was overgrown and the flowers had withered. A few vines reached around Macaque, keeping him planted down to the Earth, as if it was reclaiming him. His fur was filthy and unkempt and he had dark circles around his eyes because it was hard to sleep standing up, in the open, alone. Macaque had watched as his brother and the other champions approached him, Wukong coming forward in swift strides to help pull off the greenery growing on him and hugged him tightly. Macaque... felt like crying although he could hardly understand why.
"Master is dead." Wukong had spoken with his usual monotone voice, but it cracked. Hearing his brother's voice crack broke Macaque and he hugged him back, feeling warm tears running down his face and he asked the question that had been racking his mind for decades.
"Why did Master never come back for me?" Wukong couldn't answer, no one could bare to tell him except for Mink.
"Master got rid of you because they didn't like you. But don't yell at us for never looking for you, because she specifically requested that we didn't and so here we are."
Macaque remembers how he broke down right there, tired after years of standing there with sleepless nights and little to eat or do. He remembers vowing to never trust their Master so blindly again, reminding himself to keep all the qualities Master Gertrude found annoying to a minimum. Macaque won't make the same upsetting mistake twice.
*I'm really sorry if this is the name of any one who might be reading this, I mean no offense! I just looked for a name that isn't frequently used in the modern day and that's what came up
I don't know, maybe I'll write a fanfiction with the next reincarnated Reader comforting Macaque after all this trauma of abandonment, poor baby boy... An AU of an AU, how thrilling!
This could work with any of the champions, in my opinion, because, I think, that if their Master wills it, no matter how harmful it is, they would just instinctually oblige. I only used Macaque because, if this happened to him, I would just break down crying and hug him till I die! Anyways, I hope you liked this, Emelin, and please please please give me validation! Thank you, you're the best!
OOOOOO i love this omg- THE ANGST- THE AAANGSSST- I also love the moment of Wukong's voice crack- it's literally lil moments like this where he shows vulnerability and emotions- fhgnfhgnfhg
Very well written and fitting character choice for this!! :D
But how dare that Master not like Macaque's affection and just abandon him?? HE'S THE MOST WHOLESOME OF THEM ALL- If we ignore the more murderous side of him of course- BUT HE'S SO FLUFFY TOWARDS HIS MASTER AND DESERVES THE BEST FLUFF IN RETURN- HDSFNDSHFNHDSFHNHDSNHSD
Like- this is so in-character for them though- Especially between the monkey bros since Macaque is usually so eager and happy about completing a task to make his Master happy- hgfnhgnfghf the feels of potential heavy angst, man- Gotta love it-
I'd definitely read a part two with a Master who actually gives him the fluffy comfort he deserves and needs gfhgnfhjgf

The most fake ridiculous form of "activism" i've ever seen online is when an artist gets outed as some kind of nonce or -phobe or -ist and instead of anyone focusing on anything important they overdose of fakewoke copium by drawing the artist fan art under the guise of "reclaiming" the characters.
an artist could literally be the next hitler and you would have steven universe softboi type ""activists""" making 100 posts about how "heh, i guess this means this guys oc is mine nowww #BeGayDoCrime" like no youre not actually stealing this character, it doesnt belong to you just because the owner is a bad person. and you drawing the character and parading ur fanart as some kind of super epic dunk on the owner does nothing for no one and helps none of the people the artist hurt. you are literally just making free art for the artist
like if you wanna still like the artists work and draw fan art thats entirely up to u bc like Whatever but it irritates me so much when u ppl do gift art and claim its activism bc like its not and i need you guys to stop lying to yourselves lol please. do you know how ridiculous it would be to be hurt by someone and then see ppl online who claim to support you just turn around and draw art for like, ur abuser or something and act like theyre doing u a favor when really its obvious they just wanted a guilt free way to continue fawning over their ocs
like again if u like something then u like something. i listen to a lot of music made by people i dont like or respect or agree with but i feel like at the very least you should be honest and have some level of self awareness about it. yeah i like this art or this music and the creator is a werido and it sucks that theyre a freak. and thats that. but i just think the whole "stealing" a "problematic" persons ocs is just the most pathetic attempt at parading around how "moral" you supposedly are
#not my art#radiobroadcast#ive held this opinion for years but every new call out post on someone brings new ppl who do this#like someones character isnt yours now just bc u think ur a better person lol#and claiming it helps ppl is soooo cringe

Steven Universe and Gender Expression
Earlier this week, I saw a fan art thread on twitter of various cartoon characters drawn at ages 10, 16, and 30 years old respectively. One of the characters in the line up was Steven Universe, and I couldn't help but notice that with each incarnation he was depicted as being more and more masculine. The intent of the artist was clearly to make Steven appear powerful and serious through the visual language edginess and Dragon-Ball-Z-esque power fantasies.
Seeing this fan art made me think about how it is relatively common to depict adult Steven with a much more "traditionally masculine" personal style: he normally wears much less or little to no pink, there is much less art of Steven cross-dressing as an adult, and he choses to grow out his facial hair–among other things. These are depictions that are not limited to fandom either as the show itself has often depicted adult Steven in a much more traditionally masculine light than his style during the main series.

Personally, this has always irked me a bit. In a way, it has suggested that Steven's more feminine mannerisms, personal style, etc. is something that he grew out of. He wore pink, picked flowers, and wore dresses as a part of his youth, but ultimately it was something to "mature" past. Steven Universe Future has the episode dedicated to how Steven is a young adult now, and is no longer a 24/7 silly, goofy-goober. Unfortunately for me, it felt like Steven's more feminine presentation was lumped in with eating waffles and popcorn for breakfast or mandatory daily games of tag. To be clear, these are all personal feelings and thoughts that have been ricocheting through my mind all week. This is in no way a criticism of the show. I understand that Steven expression begins mirroring Greg's. More so, the evolution of Steven's style signifies that he no longer feels like he needs to be Rose Quartz 3.0. Shedding pink as his go to color, and taking off his mother's wardrobe serves the story well. Also, everyones personal style evolves and changes as they grow older. Also, also, I know that Steven is inspired by Rebecca Sugar's brother, and many of adult Steven's cannon designs sorta resemble their brother.
In Future, Steven sheds the pinkness and the softness to divorce his identity from the long shadow cast by his mother. Sometimes I wish that we got to see Steven reclaim the feminine parts of his expression. When I was a kid I fell in love with the character of Steven because he was just like me in so many ways. I was a girly little boy then who has grown into a feminine man(?). Again, this is not really any sort of criticism. Just me projecting myself onto fictional characters again.
Lastly, artists please draw more fan art of adult Steven in pink, in dresses, and wearing make up! I want to see what femme Steven looks like unburdened from Rose's legacy!
