I have a tendency to make versions of my favorite characters but in whatever universe I'm into at the moment lmao

1st: Sailor-Woo (my irl cat) but gem :3 (Lapis Lazuli)

2nd: Fusion of my gemsona Danidot & Jasper (Ammolite)

3rd: Ruffnut (HTTYD) but gem (Miriam Jasper/Miriam Stone/Etc)

Explanation for the last category: either a show canon gem we saw a few times/got mentions of but aren't as prominent (obsidian, nephrite, jade etc.) or a gem type that hasn't appeared in the show but you have your own headcanons of how they would function in gem society (for example singular gem equivalents of fusions like opals and malachites etc.)

Weapon(s)/Power(s): Manipulates metals, much like a Lapis manipulates water.

Characteristics:

Hematite is tall and thin. They are pretty introverted and only talk to people if they have to. They also enjoy making little sculptures out of metal, but tend to hide this fact out of respect for the Diamonds. Hematite is afraid of bugs. They don't quite understand organic life and they always stay weary whenever around it.

I came up with Hematite's design before I came up with a name. I had the idea to make a character with a lumpy and bulbous head. It wasn't originally going to be a gem but when the thought crossed my mind, I thought that this could make for a pretty cool gemsona, so I built off of that. I came up with a design for this gem but I didn't what to name it yet. I looked up different lumpy gems and crystals, hoping to find something that would make sense for the character. During this search, I remembered that metallic rocks exist so I decided to look into that. I discovered hematite, a magnetic crystal which turned out to sometimes be lumpy. This was perfect so I added that to my character. They became Hematite.

I drafted an initial messy sketch but I couldn't decide on a full body. I came back to it occasionally for the next few months but didn't really make much progress. Fast forward to a few days ago when I decided to join Art Fight! (This is my first year!!) I uploaded my OCs (which all happened to be gemsonas) and it's been going decent so far! I then remembered that Hematite was still sitting in my files unfinished and now would be a great time to finalized their design so I spent an hour or two sketching and cleaning up and ended up with this current design!
