In either case, I think with fire being associated with the Antivirus (or Virus) and water being associated with Rainbow Steve, I think there's potential for a cool water vs fire match up.

Doctor Octopus unmasking Spider-Man in Web of Death

So here’s something I always found fascinating about the brilliant Web of Death storyline from the otherwise infamous Spider-Man: Clone Saga!

This was actually the first time since the classic Stan Lee & Steve Ditko Amazing Spider-Man era where Doctor Octopus had unmasked Spider-Man, except Otto had completely different reactions when discovering it was Peter Parker underneath the mask.

In Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #12, Peter was forced to fight Doc Ock when the latter kidnapped Betty Brant, but his spider-powers were significantly weakened due to him coming down with the flu. Octavius was shocked that he had defeated Spidey so easily considering that the latter put up quite a challenge when they fought in the previous issue. So when Otto unmasked Spider-Man to only discover it was Peter underneath, he simply assumed Peter was a weakling imposter instead of the actual Spider-Man (a misunderstanding which also fooled Betty and even J. Jonah Jameson).

Conversely in Web of Death, Otto had taken notice of Spider-Man’s drastic change in behavior. He was deeply disturbed by Spidey's grim-&-gritty “I am the Spider” phase, reminiscing on the once good and noble adversary whom over the years Otto had built up a twisted level of respect towards.

So when Otto confirms that the rumors of Spidey dying of an incurable virus administered by the Vulture during the previous story arc Back From The Edge are indeed true, Octavius unmasks Spidey and takes him back to this lab in order to create an antidote that will save Peter’s life.

Only this time Otto actually believes that Peter and Spider-Man are one and the same person, even reflecting back on the time he previously unmasked Peter back in Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #12 and questioning to himself why he didn't believe he Peter was Spider-Man back then.

I really loved this clever nod to the Lee & Ditko era, as it felt like a perfect book-ending at the time to Peter & Otto’s rivalry at the time considering that Peter's clone Kaine would later snap Doctor Octopus’ neck at the very end of the arc.

While many people complained about Doctor Octopus’s death at the hands of Kaine in the Web of Death being too sudden and poorly thought out, I’ve personally always disagreed with that criticism. Not only because the writers J.M. DeMatteis & Tom DeFalco dedicated 4 entire issues to fleshing out Otto Octavius’ relationship and history with Spider-Man (i.e. having him save Peter from death, because in his own twisted way he believed that continuously fighting someone as noble as Spidey provided him a connection to his own past humanity), but also because from a thematic perspective the narrative repeatedly built up Kaine as this shadowy figure watching all the events from afar, acting like a stalking predator waiting for the opportune moment to strike its prey. In essence Web of Death frames Kaine as the looming shadow of death itself. This framing is further enhanced through Kaine’s inner monologues about wanting to preserve Peter & Mary Jane’s happiness whilst seeing Doctor Octopus and his lover Stunner as a threat to said-happiness.

So when Otto Octavius final does cure Peter of the virus that was killing him and announces his intentions to continue fighting Spidey in an endless loop (to satisfy his own warped vision of the connection that he and Peter now share) as he voluntarily allows himself to be arrested, it only makes sense thematically for Kaine to sweep in and finally eliminate the threat to Peter’s happiness.

And while I will concede that the brawl between Otto & Kaine is rather quick, I do honestly really love how their fight is contrasted with scenes of Peter & MJ constructing a crib for their soon-to-be-born child (Web of Death was the story that revealed MJ’s pregnancy), conveying that while Peter had escaped the clutches of death and was finally embracing life, Otto’s nihilistic obsession with continuously fighting Spidey resulted in his own demise.

Plus, having Kaine kill Doc Ock helps to further elevate his threat level as an antagonist to Peter Parker & Ben Reilly, since while the previous villain Kaine killed in the corresponding story Web of Life, the Grim Hunter (aka, the then-late Kraven the Hunter’s son, Vladimir Kravinoff), was a minor d-lister, Octavius was both a heavy-hitter and one of Spidey’s oldest and deadliest enemies!

Overall, Web of Death holds a special place in my heart since this 4-part storyline was actually the very first part of The Clone Saga I ever read in full due to the single issues being available and cheap at the time on ComiXology, and I had heard about Otto’s death in these issues as a little kid through my old Spider-Man character guidebooks and encyclopedias. And reading this arc not only gave me an even greater appreciation for Otto Octavius’s relationship with Spider-Man that I hadn’t experienced in the comics since Dan Slott’s run on Superior Spider-Man (I honestly can't help but wonder if Otto's characterization in Web of Death partially influenced Slott's later portrayal of the character) but the it was also my first official introduction to the writing of J.M. DeMatteis, who’s since become one of my top 5 all-time favorite comic authors!

The way New 52 ended was some BS. Suddenly there were two different Supermen and then they "merge" together. I know comics aren't supposed to be realistic but even by comic book world standards that was pure BS. Couldn't they have just broken up Clark and Diana and then they both go back to Lois and Steve instead of killing Superman (again) and then pretending like SM/WW relationship never happened?

Yeah. Is a stupid mess.

I have no actual confirmation, but this theory sounds the most logical:

It’s been said in 2011 DC engaged in a litigation versus the estates of Siegel/Shuster for the rights of using the Lois Lana character, among others. That and the poor sales of the Superman books triggered the Flashpoint event, in which Lois and Clark weren’t already a couple, and the New 52 reboot later, with both of them living completely separated lives. That’s when DC started to explore new alternative paths and the Superman/Wonder Woman couple became canon, after years of Elseworlds and innuendo. But the a-holes at DC were reluctant of letting it blossom: no intimate scenes, which they love to do with other characters, like Batso/Selina, Oli/Dinah, Nightwing/everybody, etc. Diana stopped calling him “Kal”, name used only by the Karas and her. Even deep into the relationship, they acted too formal towards the other, there wasn’t humor in the relationship, for one reason or another, they were always apart by months at the time: be it because they had to recover from a nuclear explosion or Supes needed to expel the Doomsday virus from his system for good, and things like that. There wasn’t real commitment from DC regarding the pairing. By the second year, they tried everything to justify a separation, hence the miniseries “Superman: Unchained”, in which he stars with Lois Lane (they probably received word the litigation would be settled in their favor), Clark began acting more distant to Diana, until the infamous “I don’t know if I love you anymore”, and the “Truth” saga, in which Lois played an important part.

When they finally reached an agreement with the other part, in 2016, and the use of the characters was secure, DC needed to rush the end of the New 52, before the families of Superman’s creators changed their minds. Comes “Convergence”, in which the multiverse collided and merged its different components, to justify the arrival of alternate Superman and Lois, still married, now with a son, to the N52 universe. But we have one Superman too many, what to do? “I now” said Geoff Johns, the ‘architect’ of rebirth, “Let’s kill the spare one, the one who’s not with Lois”. So they did. But even they thought that was a really dick move, and the public wasn’t happy at all with the solution, so they decided to do the “merging” thing with the Clarks, and say the N52 was an illusion or something.

Confused yet? Good.

DC could’ve end the relationship between Clark and Diana in an amicable way, if they so desperately needed to put Clark back with Lane, apparently one of the conditions of the agreement, and spare us the shameful disaster, but, where’s the fun in that?

By the way, Superman’s books sales still suck.

This is the explanation I deem more plausible.

“This is fantastic,” murmurs Jared Leto as the relentless Moroccan   sun sears destiny into his bronzed, bare skin. He is sweating under his tight  armor. His dark horse, Mateo, quivers beneath him and paws the ground nervously. A signal is given.

Leto howls a great animalistic yowl straight from his belly to the ears of   the gods. There is another howl, then another. Thousands of voices fuse into   one animal cry. A legion of alpha males surges forward to meet the enemy, Leto,   blond hair hair streaming past his shoulders, muscular thighs gripped bareback   on his galloping horse, rides hard into the thick of a bloody combat. His sword   cuts through all who oppose him.

This is the filming of Oliver Stone’s Alexander and the legendary battle of   Gaugamela, Alexander’s greatest victory over the Persians - a turning point   in his conquest of the known world. Stone’s sweeping historical saga charts   the life and the legend of one of the greatest figures in world history. The   story is an epic that is a daring and ambitious as its subject, a relentless   conqueror who, by the age of 32, had amassed the greatest empire the world hade   ever seen.

Through the clouds of dust, Leto can see Colin Farrell as Alexander the Great,   his massive blade slicing into flesh and sinew. There is the director, Oliver   Stone, shouting, moving rapidly behind the camera line. There are hordes of   men bellowing, bleeding, bodies everywhere. On the fringes lurks famed military   trainer and Stone cohort, Captain Dale Dye. Today, the Captain isn’t wearing   his favorite T-shirt emblazoned with the motto: “Pain is weakness leaving   the body,” but Leto needs no reminders.

Leto has always propelled himself into physical extremes to live inside a character.   As the champion runner Steve Prefontaine, he bled his feet to the bone. In the   drug-fueled Requiem For A Dream, he reportedly swore off sex (with then girlfriend,   Cameron Diaz) and lost 28 pounds to play a junky. Then there was Fight Club   (he’d been recommended for the part his friend, fellow pretty boy, Brad Pitt.),   in which he begged to have his angelic face beaten to a pulp by a jealous Ed   Norton to prove his fealty. Suffering, pain, causality, creation through transformation.   Leto has pledged himself above and beyond to those epithets years ago.

“Killing people face to face for a living, that was their job,” explains   a laidback Leto a few months later from a low-key restaurant in Southern California.   It’s early afternoon. His clothing is relaxed and he looks pleasantly tired.

“It’s not jet lag. I’m over that. I just couldn’t sleep.” It’s not   due to time spent with his (purported) new, luscious It-girl Scarlett Johansson.   He’s been concentrating on working on some new songs for his band, 30 Seconds   To Mars, taking meetings between rehearsals before he heads off to New York   and South Africa for three months to play another aggressor of sorts - an arms   dealer - in the film Lord of War, with Nicolas Cage and director Andrew Niccol   (Gattaca).

He is still pretty tan, making those pioneering blue eyes even more startling.   His long, blonde warrior-god locks are gone now, dyed and clipped into a light   brown Erik Estrada-style shag for the new movie. But there is still a trace   of the Irish lilt he took on for Alexander. (Aside from gearing it toward Farrell’s   natural tones, Stone’s rationale for the accent was that historically, the Macedonians   were to the Greeks what the Irish have been to the English.) Most of the 15   pounds of muscle weight that he strapped on for the six-month shoot has slipped   from his slim frame. Even so, the intensity of that experience is still on his   mind and in his body.

“The film has plenty of f***ing and fighting and killing and death and   blood. My job was to murder people and stand by Alexander.” who, according   to history, was his best friend since childhood, and his lover.

“Hephaestion, the character I play, and [Alexander] have a really special   connection. It’s a strong, strong relationship. I don’t think there is a term   we have today to define their relationship,” he says, deliberately muddling   around the oft-asked erotic question.

Farrell says, “There was no term for 'bisexuality’. It was just the way   society was. People made love to men and women. It was only later on you had   to pick one side of the fence.”

“But I promise you, in the film,” Leto teases, despite the magnetic   charms of Farrell, and costars Rosario Dawson and Angelina Jolie, who play Alexander’s   wife and mother, “the only kiss I gave out was to my horse. My one true   love.”

He takes the tape recorder and places it gently against his chest, which holds   within it the soul of a man who many have tried to reveal before. “I always   tell the truth. What else do you want to know? What do people really want to   know? What is the truth?” His face is a pure cheeky choir boy dare. “When   have I ever not told you the truth? How can you tell that I’m lying?”

I remind him that the last time we met, he told me he owned three Uzis, that   the first girl he kissed was a 47-year-old tranny named Jorge, that he was 19,   raised by circus performers, and that he studied art at the American University   of Paris for a semester, but was booted out when he wouldn’t give in to the   attentions of the headmaster. And he wouldn’t back down to any of those “facts”.

He laughs. “Really? As Ronald Regan used to say, 'I have no memory of   saying such things.’ ”

Says producer/director David Fincher, who worked with Leto on both Fight Club  and Panic Room, “When it comes to his acting, he is beyond method. He gets  into this whole image of his character. It is interesting how that kind of pain and sacrifice can translate. I mean, look at Requiem. I wish I had 100 Jareds   working for me. He was amazing.

"Jared definitely strives not to be a victim of his genetics. On the films   we did together, he was the guy who is constantly curious, the one you couldn’t bottle up. The one who wouldn’t hit his mark. He was like, 'Hey, I’m living it! Over here!’ But he does like to tell stories. It goes kind of like, 'How can you tell when Jared is lying? His lips are moving.’ ”

Leto, who prefers to see his playful fibbing as a way to keep his private life   private, was born the day after Christmas, 33 years ago, in Bossier City, Louisiana. His mother was an artistic soul, and with his father out of the picture, he and his brother, Shannon (who is also in 30 Seconds To Mars), traveled a great deal while they were growing up. After a stint at New York’s School of Visual Arts, he says, he came to Los Angeles around 12 years ago with a couple hundred bucks in his pocket, no friends, and nowhere to stay. For awhile, he slept on Venice Beach. Then kaboom! a role on television’s My So-Called Life (opposite Claire Daines) and for the next few years, he reigned as a teen pinup - a tag   and a look he has been successfully living down ever since.

According to Leto, “Luck is the residue of destiny.” It’s a phrase   he’s heard which he likes very much. He feels it means that we can get caught up in so many things, but the world has what it has for us. That, in our natural state, everything is the way it’s supposed to be - free and joyous - and that our own insecurities get in the way of all that. It’s an idea which could be   applied to his early life.

“When I was young, all that traveling was exciting,” says Leto. “You   do develop an ability to read people more quickly. You have to learn to adapt to whatever comes along, to survive. Maybe the way I grew up is why I’m drawn to acting, to different characters. From film to film, I’m constantly finding myself, reaching different places outside and inside myself. I want to change, to morph into something else.” To be able to do that for Oliver Stone is a gift, says Leto. “He is one of my f***ing heroes. He is a great man. Present, connected, very physical. I find his way very endearing.”

To work with Stone, he traveled to Morocco, where the oncoming sunset had turned the world orange, into the color of dark rust. But the sky was growing dark, the golden scorpions were scuttling under the rocks, another sandstorm was moving toward the camp, fast.

Within moments, Leto, wearing his usual training gear - a T-shirt, tight shorts,   boots covering his calves - couldn’t see two feet ahead of him. The sand whipped raw against his skin as he made for his tent. Inside, he tightened the flap and listened to the wind howl. He had switched off his cell phone, his e-mail. He hadn’t spoken to anyone in the U.S. for months. Apocalyptic fantasies crowded his brain. Many in the cast had already been horribly sick. There was a virus in the dust. His tent was next door to the latrine and he could hear cast and crew heave by the dozens.

One night, Leto got so sick, he thought he was going to toss a spleen.“I lay in bed for a couple of hours staring at the stars, just breathing really   slow, willing it away. I fell asleep dreaming strange, surreal dreams. When   I woke up, it was gone. That’s the desert.”

Says Dawson, “It was beyond primal, all those men bonding - horse training,   fighting, all buffed up wearing nearly nothing. And as soon as a woman came   on set, the energy was so damn erotic.

"One time Jared came to visit the hotel [where women stayed]. He was so   happy to be there. He got to take a shower, have some proper food.So he’s talking, sitting there, and just sort of adjusting the package, not sexually, but in   this slow, languorous way, like there was no one else around.It was all suited   to his character, but I was like, 'Hey dude…’

"And he was like, 'I’m sorry! We’re out there in our underwear and boots   all the time… maybe it’s got us a little too relaxed.’ Maybe. But it was all   good.” She bats her eyes.“It was wonderful being around that kind of really masculine environment.”

“Oh, Rosario,” responds Leto, “she is so beautiful. Such a great   woman.” He drops his head, smiling, not exactly asking for forgiveness.“Working on Alexander was an amazing experience. It’s all about connectivity. There is an old saying that the greatest leader is the servant of them all. Meaning, you are the most powerful when you are giving.”

“I think that as an artist, in any kind of expression of creation, that   you must have to be in love with the process. It is the most exciting part of the work, and that if you have a desire for greatness, you will have to be willing to f***ing bleed. I think it’s true for me.That’s what drives me.”

How to Nolanize Quicksilver's and Scarlet Witch's powersets?

Hey again! So, my last couple of posts regarded Nolanizing (or making realistic) Spider-Man's rogues gallery and the Avengers: Infinity War saga for my universe Earth-TRN42069. Now, since some of you gave great answers (thanks again, by the way!), I want to ask about how to make realistic versions of Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. Here are some of my ideas:

1.) Their origin story I think I should write an origin involving Hydra or AIM experiments not unlike what we see in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but instead of involving an infinity stone, they should be testing some kind of mutagen or virus.

2.) Pietro's powerset I personally think that Pietro should just have quicker reflexes and speed, a la Steve Rogers or Peter Parker, but maybe a bit faster. Real-world physics wouldn't let him run as fast as we see in the comics and the films.

3.) Wanda's powersets This one gets a whole lot tougher, to say the least. Maybe the experiments gave her powers such as being able to see up to 0.97 hour into the future, for example, or enhanced her knowledge to the point she knows how to project temporary illusions at her enemies (look up: Troxler effect, sound-induced flash illusion, etc.) not unlike Mysterio from Spider-Man.

Well, those are just my ideas. What do you think? Any additional ideas would be totes welcome and appreciated! :)

THE FFL 2020/21 END OF SEASON REVIEW

The 29th season of FFL and the first one to start during a global pandemic. The season before had been totally normal till February and nothing like normal after that. That season didn’t finish until August. No Euro 2020 and a September start to the new season. As we approached the start of the football season it looked like Coronavirus was in decline, number of cases and deaths were dropping very low and life felt a bit more normal, we had no idea of the real world horrors that awaited us all.  That being said the 2020/21 season was unique, for all the wrong and some right reasons. During the August break there was the Messi saga. Harry Maguire had been scraping with the Greek police. Foden and Greenwood, while on England duty had broken Covid rules and got caught sneaking a couple of Icelandic girls into their hotel room,

The season started much later and as I got my last ever EMR HST for a day at the seaside the last few teams started to flood in. Michael Dymond was last in, would the champions’ league winner feature in the new season. League champion Steve Tatham was among the favourites to do well, along with FA cup winner Matt Wheeler.  Jackie knight had been the golden girl and challenged right up to the last game, could she challenge again? Could the big guns of Mullin and the Hawk get back to winning ways after a very disappointing season in 2020. As per normal the Team Aroma girls tried to make some very strange picks, including Hansen, Beckham and sadly retired Aroma’s own Leighton Baines. Kev Dillon shocked the world and picked Liverpool Players. Following in father Danny and Uncle Marc Lawson’s footsteps Anton joined our league. Andy Flanagan almost did a Stuart Pearce and forgot to pick a keeper. All of these issues fixed for the deadline and 33 teams started the league. With no city or Utd playing in week one the normal Bennetts Shield and Champions league had a delayed start.

As I travelled home on the train from Skegness, there was a feeling that this could be a strange season. Leeds ran Champions Liverpool very close in a high scoring game. Pam Taylor, Team Aroma and Anton Lawson were the early pace setters. The first weekend of October saw the Bennett’s Shield and the start of the Champion’s league. The weekend will be remember as the one where Man Utd conceded 6 and Liverpool 7. In the lowest ever scoring match Steve Tatham beat Matt Wheeler by 1 point to win the Shield. This was the only bright spot for either of them all season. A week later and one of the most controversial moment of the season. In a very fiery Mersey Side Derby Pickford and VVD both went for the ball. Pickford’s challenge would change the season for Liverpool. VVD wouldn’t play again all season. Souness called it an assault, he’d know all about that. Pickford got deaths threats and for the rest of the season everything was Pickford’s fault. Bale return to the premier league, but too late to make anyone’s teams. By the end of the month Mark Taylor was top and so were Everton.

The pandemic hadn’t gone and cases were starting to rocket again, by early November the UK were in Lockdown 2. Football did continue, but behind closed doors and with fake crowds. The very busy fixtures and players coming down with Covid meant that players were dropping like flies. This hurt the FFL managers as much as their Premiership counterparts. Defending Champions league Champion Michael was out the Champions league at the first group stage, along with Steve Tatham, Disco Lee Ritchie and Jackie Knight. By December Taylor was top and Taylor was bottom, sorry Dad. With some matches being cancelled due to the virus there were delays in the champions’ league. The pubs in Lincoln stayed closed, we were out of Lockdown 2, but into tier 4. Pen points were rolling in everywhere with so many players missing. It was already looking like a very low scoring season.

The Christmas number one was The Hawk, with Kieron 2nd and Mark Taylor 3rd. It was a very strange Christmas, Boris had promised a nearly normal one, but the emergence of a new variant from Kent quickly ran through the country like wildfire. The government promised a 5 days of Christmas, but quickly tried to stop this. Unfortunately nothing could stop the full force of this second wave. 40k, 50k even 60k new cases in one day and up to 1500 people dying per day. The UK death toll quickly passed over 100k. Lockdown 3 started and this was going to last much longer than 2.  It was a very difficult and dark winter, the second wave was far deadlier than the first. The one bit of hope came in the first use of vaccines. Could these Jabs return life to normal?

By mid-January The Hawk, Kieron and Mark were top 3, but now Vicky Phillips was starting to challenge. The Champions league second group stage fixtures were still delayed, due to covid, but the FA Cup cut off point saw Danny Lawson and Jackie Knight just make it at the expense of Robyn Stanney. Vicky Phillips was now up to 3rd and in her best season. The champions’ league Semi-finals finally took shape. Kieron would play Stally and The Hawk would play Mark Kiszka. In fact both Kieron and The Hawk were looking at possible trebles.

By mid-February and Kieron had an 11pt lead over the Hawk, with Vicky 3rd and Mark 4. Kieron would play Vicky in the FA Cup semi-final. However in the Champions league Stally beat Kieron over two legs and Mark Kiszka beat the Hawk. Things were going wrong for the Hawk, out the FA cup and now out the Champions league, plus a 13 point gap to lead leader Kieron. Kieron was on for the Double and would play Danny Lawson in the FA Cup final. Kieron was looking good, but pen points and missing key players made it far from certain. Road maps out of lockdown were now being talked about. Case numbers were dropping, but still so many people dead, over 120k. The roll out of the vaccine was bringing hope that an end was in sight.

Early April and over two legs Stally won a record 4th Champions league. Once again Mark Kiszka just missed out again.  Kieron was still top, but much closer, with The Hawk right on him. Cup finalist Danny Lawson was in contention too. Suddenly and out of the blue the future of football as we know it came crashing down.  The so called big 6 in England joined Spanish and Italians in a break away super league. For a short time it really looked like the end of Football, but a fan backlash, backed by ex-players and even the government challenged this. A very quick and embarrassing U-TURN saw the clubs plans fall apart. The Super league was hopefully dead and gone.  By the end of April only Kieron and The Hawk had passed 200 points, but were miles off Kieron’s 414 world record.

May the 1st and FA cup final weekend, Kieron v Danny. I even got the coolest man in football (James Richardson) do the preview and since outdoor hospitality was now open we did this over a cappuccino in Aroma. Man Utd were due to play Liverpool, but a mass protest against the owners and the super league brought chaos. Fans even got inside the stadium and onto the pitch. A protest also took place outside the players hotel. The match was cancelled and our FA cup was abandoned. A week later and the FA cup final took place. Both teams were missing Aubameyang  so Greenwood came in for Danny and scored, Aguero for Kieron. If Aguero had slotted his penalty away, Kieron would have won, but a terrible so called Panenka cost him dearly. As a result the scores were level and it went to a Tie break six. A goal from Dallas and a clean sheet from Alisson won Danny Lawson his first trophy since 2001. Worse would come for Kieron, with Man City winning the league and resting Ederson and Pope being injured  Kieron started getting penalty points, Even when Ederson returned, his defence didn’t. Allisson scored and this added to the Hawks total. Very quickly The Hawk passed him and both Mark’s closed the gap.

Leicester City won their first ever FA Cup, beating Chelsea in front of some fans. Yes limited crowds were now back, the vaccine programme was making a difference, even I had my first jab, but the emergence of a new variant from India was starting to threaten the return to normal.

Final week of the season and The Hawk was clear of Kieron, Mark Kiszka and Mark Taylor.  Senol Durmush, Tappy, Jackie Knight, Goodo and Oliver Taylor-Yassin were battling for the final champions league spots. Lee Ritchie and Chris Geoghegan were trying to avoid the wooden spoon. Penalty points had completely derailed Kieron’s season, at one point he was on for a possible treble, but not anymore.

The final Sunday saw The Hawk increase his lead and win his first ever FFL Title. Kieron Mullin ended with nothing. Mark Kiska came third and Danny Lawson came 4th with the FA Cup. Mark Taylor 5th and Vicky Phillips 6th. Senol Durmush, Jackie Knight and Pam Taylor took the final champions league spots from Tappy, Goodo and Ollie.

Thank for another great season of FFL, it’s the 30th season next time and I look forward to this, but before then its Euro FFL this summer, can Flynny defend his title?

Kevin Durant was out, in, and out again because of NBA’s botched Covid protocol

The NBA botched the handling of Kevin Durant in the league’s health and safety protocol against the Raptors.

Kevin Durant was held out the Brooklyn Nets’ starting lineup on Friday night minutes before tip-off against the Toronto Raptors under the league’s health and safety protocol. Durant was then allowed to enter the game with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. The superstar forward played 19 minutes and scored 10 points before he was pulled from the game again early in the third quarter due to the league’s health and safety protocol.

If that sounds confusing, now you know how Durant and the Brooklyn Nets feel. The Raptors would go on to win, 123-117, in a game that was overshadowed by the bizarre handling of Durant within in league protocol.

According to the NBA, Durant interacted with someone earlier in the day who later registered an inconclusive test. Durant was held out of the game while that case was being reviewed, but was allowed to return because there wasn’t a confirmed positive test. The confirmed positive test came early in the third quarter, and that’s when Durant was pulled again.

What makes this situation so frustrating for Durant is that he already had Covid-19 in March. Durant reportedly tested negative three times in the last 24 hours, but we still removed “out of an abundance of caution.”

Contact tracing is now underway to determine if he was in close contact with someone who tested positive. Durant tweeted this after the game:

Durant will not travel with his teammates for the next game against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Woj.

This isn’t the first time Durant has been held out of games because of health and safety protocol after already having the virus nearly a year ago. Durant had to miss four games in January due to contact tracing and possible exposure.

What’s so frustrating about the league’s handling of Durant is that its actions don’t match its rhetoric. Why was Durant ever allowed to enter the game in the first place while the league was waiting for the positive test to be confirmed? If Durant actually did somehow contract the virus again because he was in close contact with a positive individual, he just now had close contact with his teammates, coaches, and Raptors players while he was deemed eligible to play.

His Nets teammates and coaches also said the situation was confusing and frustrating.

Steve Nash said that he was a bit "distracted" by the Durant yo-yo of being unavailable, then available, then unavailable due to health and safety protocols. Nash said he didn't handle the situation as well as he wanted to.

The backdrop of the Durant saga is the league’s decision to hold the 2021 NBA All-Star Game in March despite vocal opposition from LeBron James and other possible All-Stars.
