She makes a surprise visit to the island of Oahu. She’s like 24 at this point. Tbh her fiance cheated on her so she needed to get away. Aunt Deb suggested she see her older brother since they only contact each other via the occasional postcards and she can get away for a bit.

This wasn’t the first time that Emily Williams had been asked to come see her brother Danny, a police detective first with the New York Police department and now with the Honolulu police department, to patch him up and it wouldn’t be the last but this was the first time that the man she had been sleeping with on and off with was sitting on the rolling chair next to the desk. “Shit.” She cursed herself before she stepped into the office, “Danno? What did you do now?” Danny, who had been lecturing Steve, paused and smiled seeing her. “It was all him Em.” Emily finally met Steve’s dark eyes and was glad to see the surprise in them. The last time they had seen each other, they had been in Japan and she was getting ready to ship back out to the states.

“And who is he?”

Danny was oblivious to the uneasy stare between the two, he was eager to start another long bitching session about his new partner and his sister usually listened. “Steve McGarrett.” Danny asked as she started looking at the wound on his shoulder.

“As in the McGarrett case?” She glanced over at Steve who was putting two and two together, Emily had told him stories about her siblings, especially her stuffy older brother.

“Yeah. He got me shot Em? Can you believe that?” The older Williams sibling questioned turning his head to watch his sister work.

“Not really, you got held hostage before, and had to have knee surgery after that case with Libby went wrong. So this doesn’t surprise me at all.” She answered, “didn’t you have the paramedics look at this?” “Why? When I have a nurse on speed dial?” Danny asked, “Em here is in the navy too but her contract is up soon.”

“Oh yeah?” Steve asked, folding his arms, eyes never leaving the siblings, curious. Emily was the exact opposite of his new partner, she had always been quick to laugh and enjoy herself while Danny wasn't that.

“Supposedly she wants to stay. God knows why.”

“Three things Danno, beach, warm weather and you and Gracie.” Emily paused as she opened an alcohol wipe, “and there is no Clara,” Clara was their mother who along with their two sisters Bridgett and Stella were very interested in when Emily was going to settle down and have kids.

“That is our mother.” Danny started before wincing when she dug her gloved thumb into the wound in annoyance . “I know that Daniel but she doesn’t harp on you. “When are you going to have kids Emily? You are such a young and pretty girl.”

Unable to help himself Steve coughed out a laugh, he had heard that impression one too many times which caused Emily to laugh. “Do you two know each other?” Danny asked after a heartbeat, “you can’t know each other.”

“We know each other.” They both answered.

“No, no Emily! Wait, this isn’t the guy you shacked up with in Cuba is it?” Emily pressed her lips together in a tight line so she wouldn’t start laughing outright.

“Emily Anne! Tell me the truth.”

“No comment.” she risked a glance over to Steve who was studying her every movement. “Do you need me to pick up Gracie after school?” Being able to have a relationship with her niece was part of the reason why she jumped on being stationed at Pearl Harbor.

“Emily! Tell me the truth.” Danny had glossed over her question like she had expected him too and he was furious. Like Matthew, their brother, he was fiercely over protective of Emily and their other sisters.

“Yes, okay?” she snapped back as she started bandaging the wound. “But you have no room to talk, Daniel. You are the one who ended up marrying someone you pulled over.” Another quiet laugh escaped Steve, he had heard all about her brother’s ex-wife after she found out that she had filed for divorce causing a smile to twitch on the corner of her mouth. “You told a total stranger about my personal life?”

The younger Williams sibling smiled then, “Well yeah, he's a good listener and I had to have someone to talk to. And I was not going to use the satellite phone to call Clara.”

Groaning Danny dropped his chin to his chest, “You two are going to put me in an early grave.”

“Don't be so dramatic Danny.” Emily rolled her eyes, “We both know that it will be Rachel and step Stan.”

“Step Stan?” Steve stepped in, unable to help himself, now that he was putting faces with names, things started making sense and he wanted to try and diffuse the situation mostly for Emily’s sake.

“Rachel's new husband. He seems nice.” The younger sibling returned. “You only say that because he tried to buy your affection too.” Steve and Emily exchanged a look with furrowed brows. “Are you still bitter that I attended the wedding for Gracie’s sake?” Danny huffed as he stood up and went into one of the glass offices. “Grace begged and pleaded for me to go, I was on leave.” she informed as she started gathering up the used supplies to throw them away, “I tried to talk Rachel out of it, including offering to be her getaway driver.” “Does he know that?” Emily shook her head, “He wouldn't listen, probably never will.”

The last time Beth had seen Steve McGarrett, she'd been ten years old. Time had not changed much; she was maybe a few inches taller, finally reaching a full height of five feet, but still small and delicate. Her features were finely sculpted by nature but her green-and-honey eyes are still wide and bright. And standing there, she looks like she's seen a ghost. In many ways that's true. Steve had been fifteen when he and his sister were sent away to California, which might as well have been the world away from O'ahu. Andy had been glum to have to give up his best friend and Beth had felt the same way. It hadn't been long before the four children had lost touch of each other. Would she still have accepted the position with the task-force if she'd known he was involved with it? Probably. Andy had been gone ten years now and nothing had filled the void in her that her brother's death had left behind. She'd dropped out of medical school for the allure of the New York Police Department and in those years, she'd earned her place as a detective. The offer had come because Beth was a hometown girl, her family had been a part of Hawai'i long before it was colonised. She knew O'ahu like the back of her hand, still kept the family home here in Honolulu and now that she's standing here, she can see why there were lights on in his house in the evening. At first, she'd simply thought maybe the house had sold to someone else, that maybe he'd kept a housekeeping crew in his absence, like she had.

"Steve?" Her voice is deeper than one might assume given the rest of her, a slightly husky sound only a little above a whisper. "Are you...are we... Does the Navy work with the Task Force?"

Saw your reference to Mary in the Hello Kitty ask and it got me wondering what Stef's relationship with Mary is like in this universe? Did Stef already know that she's trans when they were still living at home and did it affect their relationship? Or is she unconditionally protective of her baby sister like Steve is in canon? Is it a complicated™? Also: will we meet Mary in this universe at some point?

I'd say their relationship is very similar to canon. Like Mary is a royal pain in Stef's ass sometimes, but also if anyone even looks sideways at her baby sister, she's going to commit a murder. Only Stef is allowed to yell at Mary, no one else.

Stef knew she was a trans from a young age, and there was some tension. Not necessarily the fault of Mary, but more stemming from the fact that growing up there were very Clear Gender Roles. Mary was allowed to do things and behave a certain way because she was a ~girl~ whereas Stef was expected to behave differently.

Think along the lines of the whole "McGarrett Men Aren't Emotional" thing. Mary was allowed to cry if she was sad, Stef was told to man up. Obviously an upsetting situation to be in no matter what someone's gender is, but when Stef is sitting there just aching and can't cry? Because what? She's not a girl? But she is? That awful confusing mix of shame and gender dysphoria stuck in her throat.

There's also the fact that Mary is 6/7 years younger than Stef, which is a huge age gap when you're a kid. Stef got to see first hand a contrast in what Mary was expected to do versus what "John" was expected to do, and compare them to how she was raised. Behaviors that were acceptable, versus the ones that were not, etc.

I do want Mary to make an appearance, just like I want Freddie and Cath to as well, but there's also just A Lot going on, that I'm not sure where exactly to put them yet.

Perfect Catch by N.R. Walker

Perfect Catch is the story of twenty-four-year-olds Calvin 'Cal' Lynch and Troy Hoffman, best friends since they were fourteen. It's the realisation of their chemistry, a decade of tension and want and the maintenance of their emotions in the wake of the change in their relationship all wrapped up with N.R.'s typical writing style and a sense of wonderful humour. There is a degree of awareness to the whole book that I appreciated. Like the best friend to lovers trope being called out, Cal and Troy know they are the stereotypical example of a trope. The humour used is fun and right. I like the characters. It feels a little like Arctic Fire in the limited cast and tent and full-blown intimacy. However, that works on entirely different core premises (I do so love it 😘). Perfect Catch is just cute af, it's low anxiety, best friend to lovers done right.

The slow reveals of the characters was an effective choice. Cal goes from being anxious and questioning in the first half to the driving force, confident and self-assured in the second. He's not a flawed narrator per se but he perhaps is unaware of his own convictions at first. Troy is endearing, human. The sort of character that is common in NR's novels. It is a narrative that moves fast but not illogically so. Their actions and the speed of them are backed by their preexisting relationship, connection and character traits. Such as Cal's relatable love of Steve McGarrett, which is tied to his love of Troy. Jesus, I so did that (though with different characters, and actors). The choice to include the conversation of what-ifs felt like it really was necessary given their hardcore feelings for each other.

Have a collection of quotes and notes • Total random note... Interesting choice of beer. • I adore Peta and Cal's relationship. Sparkie and Chippie as nicknames are perfect choices. Also, bless any author who gives us a female tradie. Peta gives as good as she gets and I'm here for it. • This particular book is set in outside a country town called Claremont (there are two, one in Western Australia and one in Tasmania neither align well to this location). • My folks were okay with it; well, my mum and sister were fine with it. I think my dad was just relieved I was still a man’s man. I was still keen to do my building apprenticeship and was one of the hardest hitting guys on our rugby team. I think my old man thought all gay men had a swish to their hips. But when he realised it didn’t change a single thing about me, he said he was fine with it. I had to wonder if he’d still accept me if I was more flamboyant. I’d never really thought parents’ love should have limits, but apparently my dad’s might have. — Well hellllooo toxic masculinity. Goddamn homophobia. Australia well and truly sucks sometimes. Because all Aussies know at least one guy who is considered a blokes bloke like that. I do of course know it's not exclusive to us. (Cal) • I knew that smile. It was his gone-fishin’ smile, his “weekend away with no mobile phone service” smile. Possibly even his “Friday night footy and pizza” smile. It was contagious. — I adore this. Just that knowing someone so well that you know their moods, their smiles. It doesn't have to be romantic, it can be a purely platonic connection, though it is of course heavily romantically coded here. Even if Cal and Troy are both entirely blind to the subtones of it. (Cal) • I longed to touch him, to have him touch me in return. I wanted him, but more than that, I wanted him to want me. I ached for it. — I don't know what it is about this that makes my stomach swoop. Because I remember this feeling, but it is uncommon to be reminded of that. (Cal) • Because, even if it turned out Troy would not, or could not, ever be interested in me, it was too late for me. I was in love with him. I had been for years. Was I supposed to risk it all? Was I supposed to tell him how I felt? Because it was getting to the point where I couldn’t keep pretending I wasn’t in love with my best friend. I didn’t have a choice anymore. I had to either tell him or walk away. And I couldn’t be the one to say goodbye. — There is so much desperation and emotion in this one section. It's a stark realisation. Cal is so painfully sweet. I felt this like a punch. (Cal) • He pulled off. “Look at me when I suck your dick.” His words and his tone almost made me come. I did as he demanded, leaning up on my elbows, and when our gazes locked, he slowly opened his mouth and took me in again. “Oh, fuck,” I whispered. “Troy.” — This exchange struck me, not because it is A moment but because I've read quite a bit of N.R. over the last year. This isn't her usual game. Honestly, it's one step off exhibitionism, not something I've seen her play with, that kind of kink. But for Cal and Troy, it feels more like a deep extension of their intimacy. Troy's need for intimacy. (Troy and Cal) • “I know. And that’s what I’m scared of,” he said. He looked away, out the kitchen window, like looking at me was too hard. “Scared of what?” His gaze shot to mine. “Of losing what we have,” he said. “Of risking it all. You’ve been my best friend forever, and I don’t know what I’d do without you, and that scares me.” — This is a key element of friends to loves, especially best friends to loves. Think of it as Schrodinger's cat relationship. stellarstacey put it really well in her buddie fanfic Buck's New Tattoo "I’m tired of being alive and dead with you. I’m so scared to mess up what we already have that I’m sacrificing what we could have. I wanna open the box on us." • “Now, if we’re going to do the whole best friends-to-lovers thing, we’d better go about it properly, yeah?” That made me smile. “I thought we crossed that line already.” “We frotted the line.” I burst out laughing. “Then we better cross it more thoroughly.” Troy chuckled, then with a deep breath, he took my hand. “If we do this, we can’t go back.” “I know.” “No regrets?” “No regrets.” — This made me laugh. This is a moment of full awareness of the trope. (Troy and Cal)

I keep coming back to N.R. Walker. I need a book I can read easily on a busy day which could include lots of disrupted reading I've found N.R.'s are brilliant for that. Engaging enough that you want to know how the characters get where they need to be for their happiness but written in such a way that you can pick it up and put it down without getting lost. This Perceft Catch is a prime example of her work, set in Australia with a minimal cast happiness galore. I will never complain about it.

Eia Au, Eia 'Oe ~ Here I am, here you are (Steve McGarrett/Twin Sister and Danny Williams/Reader)

Just a things begin to return to normal again after Steve’s arrest and escape, Steve’s twin sister comes walking into their lives McGarrett style dropping an emotional bomb. Danny is intrigued finding it hard to resist that McGarrett charm, finding it irresistible in ways he never thought possible...

NOTE: This is a rewrite, with better timeline, then what I originally wrote a month ago with the little blurb. Enjoy! ALSO, there is swearing...be advised...

“Thank you, Danny, I appreciate the fact that you did not complain once all the way from the elevator to the office door.” Steve rolled his eyes opening the door for his short partner.

“You’re so welcome babe.” Danny smirked stepping inside stopping as he saw someone moving around Steve’s office, “Uh, you expecting someone?”

Steve stepped in looking at his office tensing at who he saw, “No.”

“Huh…” Danny watched as the figure turned looking at a photo of Steve and his father on the wall smiling, “Well, she’s cute at least.”

“…she’s my sister.” Steve’s face went blank as he began to walk forward fist balling up.

“Sister? Wait…wait…this is the sister…the one…the -” Danny followed him stopping as Steve turned sharply to look at him.

“Danny this is my twin.” Steve clenched his jaw seeing more questions. He didn’t talk about you much. You had a falling out about a year after your mother died and it just progressively got worse over the years, “I’m gonna need a minute with her ok?”

Danny didn’t get a chance to reply as he stepped away again heading straight into his office. You turned looking at him. From outside the window Danny could definitely see similarities. You had that same confident smirk, same cocky stance as your hands fell on your hips. Though you looked a tad more attractive when you did it, something about how you cocked your hip.

Steve’s mouth went instantly dry when you turned to him. There were so many things he wanted to say to you, but none of them would help him figure out why you were here. He flexed his clenched hands as you spoke first, “Hi…”

“Hey…” He licked his lips staring at you as you turned looking at the office letting your hands fall waving around to the office.

“Nice digs…” You told him as he interrupted.

“What are you doing here, Y/N?” His tone was harsh as was the look on his face.

“I… finally got off a deep assignment.” You looked down already knowing exactly what was coming, “I finally heard about dad.”

“His funeral was almost a year ago.” He stood his ground as you looked up at him matching his stance.

“Steve, I would have been here. You know that.” You frowned as you started to defend yourself, “There was no way for -”

“But you weren’t, Y/N!” Steve snapped loudly, “For crying out loud, Y/N! Mary…Mary made it back her before you. You both missed it, but at least she-”

“Stop!” You shook your head tearing up as you threw your hands up into the air surrendering, “This isn’t why I came here. I do not have to justify myself to you, when you know if it was reversed you’d say the same thing. I could throw so much back at you about how it’s your fault he’s dead, but I’m not here…I’m not here for that, Steve…”

You turned away from him putting your hands to the sides of your head trying to regain control over your emotions. After a few beats Steve swallowed down the truth in the air and asked, “So why are you here?”

You sighed looking at your other half eyes red and puffy from holding back tears, “You can’t feel it? Have we been apart that long?”

He could feel it. An unease, something wasn’t right. He’d been feeling it for a while, “What is it?”

“I’m sick Steve…” You sighed your shoulders slumping defeated.

His eyes widened as he took a step toward you. It didn’t matter how mad he was. You were his family, his sister…his other half, he would always be connected to you somehow, “Is it bad?”

He could see you trying not to cry as you leaned up against his desk, “Well it’s uh…the big C… so go big or go home right?”

His heart immediately sank as he stepped up to you taking your hand in his like you used to do when either of you would be scared, “Y/N…”

“…so I came home…” You squeezed his hand looking down trying to keep it together still, “I-I was hoping my brother would help me get through this…”

“Of course,…of course, Y/N.” You looked up at him seeing that hard exterior he’d been putting on cracking quickly, “This is your home, it always will be.”

A tear fell down your cheek as you nodded, “Thanks Steve…”

“Com’ere…” He pulled you into a tight hug and the familiar sensation of being whole filled him. He’d forgotten how much he really missed you.

“I really am sorry I couldn’t be here…” You started to speak as you hugged him tightly.

“I know…I was just mad…I’m an ass.” He smiled when he heard you let out a laugh as he pulled away, “S-so how bad…”

“Don’t…I just want to get settled and see doctors before I start laying it all out there…and I’d like you to be there  while I do it…” You glanced over his shoulder clamming up a little at what you saw through the door, “Who’s the handsome lurker?”

Steve glanced back at Danny staring at the pair and rolled his eyes, “Ignore him.”

“Kinda hard to, brother, he’s a little distracting.” You smirked staring at Danny. Maybe moving back home wouldn’t be so bad.

Steve looked back at Danny again who raised his hand as he grinned wiggling his fingers, “Fine…you’re going to meet him eventually anyways I’m sure, and he’s not going to let it go.”

“Got blood hound on your hands, do ya?” You wiped your face as he held the door open for you.

Steve let out a sigh, “Only when I don’t want him to be.”

“Ma’am, did this neanderthal say something insulting to you? I can have him arrested.” Danny smirked at you as you both walked over.

You let out a laugh smiling for what felt like the first time in months, “Uh, no officer, I can assure you that everything is just peachy keen between me and my little brother.”

“Oh no…” Steve shut his eyes shaking his head, “Why…why did you do that?”

“Little brother?” Danny felt his smirk grow further.

“Oh yeah, the universe felt they needed me in the world six minutes longer then good ol’ Steven here.” You smirked enjoying your brother cringe, “He hates it when I tell people that…he likes to be all tall and macho…”

“I am well aware of his need to be so much better then everyone else.” Danny smiled at you holding out his hand, “Danny Williams.”

“Y/N McGarrett.” You took his hand and he clasped his other over yours shaking it.

“It is a pleasure to meet you.” Danny stared into your eyes, “You look much nicer than your brother.”

“It’s because I am.” You glanced down at your hand still being held as you smirked, “Uh…you going somewhere with this long handshake?”

“Sorry…it’s just so rare to see kindness from a McGarrett…I thought it was a myth. That they were only robots who actively seek gun fire and highspeed car chases.” Danny slowly let go your hand as he looked over to Steve.

“Are you back on that again? Let it go.” Steve waved his arms out from him.

“I will not let it go, you are driving my car!” Danny shouted at him.

You chuckled later thinking back on the situation that followed. Steve glanced at you as he drove home. He could see the differences now that he knew what you were battling. You looked tired, worn down. He just hoped you didn’t give up, “What are you giggling about?”

You looked at him smirking a little, “Your partner and your marital spat with him.”

Steve shook his head, “Danny overreacts.”

“Uh huh, sure he does.” You smiled at him seeing him take in a deep breath concentrating on the road, “Steve…”

“I just want to know how bad it is.” Steve looked at you frowning, “I know it can’t be great…but…”

“It’s…pretty bad.” You sighed looking at the scenery as it flew past. You knew if you looked at him you’d just start crying again and you just weren’t ready for that part of this journey yet, “I-uh came into contact with some pretty radioactive materials on job and it…fucked me up pretty bad I guess. The docs I saw told me to take it easy and seek medical attention…forced into early retirement.”

“What were you doing?” He watched as you gave him a sideways look, “I know it was with JSOC…That last time we spoke…argued…”

“Yeah, you know it’s…past.” You told him putting smile on your face, “I was angry, you were angry…dad was…being dad and…well…I’m not sorry, but I can’t change even if I wanted to.”

“You know I just wanted you to be safe…I just wanted Mary to be looked after.” Steve turned onto their street.

“Yeah, but why was that my responsibility?” You pointed at him, “Why was it okay for dad to get you set up in the Army Navy Academy and I had to finish out high school in a town where I knew no one and the only person that I could talk to was training 3 fucking hours away.”

Steve pulled into the driveway and parked looking at you. There was a lot of anger you had for this place and the situation your mom’s death had put you in, “You know, you didn’t answer my question.”

“That’s because I can’t tell you.” You told him letting out a sigh, “You know how it works…We work with Delta…you can assume we were making an extraction.”

“But what were you doing in the field?” He made a face as he tried to work it out.

You rolled your eyes shaking your head, “It’s 2011, Steve. Women are allowed in the field now, under special orders when they have the right training. Plus we live in a world where we can’t really be fussy anymore. We got planes falling out of the sky, suicide bombers walking the streets, people coming into your homes…where you think you're safe…”

He followed your gaze toward the house, “Y/N…I…”

“How bad was it?” You looked to him as you cut him off, “I mean my SO…he kind of gave me the jist of everything. Said you caught the son of bitch…”

“I didn’t.” You froze as he spoke calmly looking into your eyes, “I didn’t catch him, Y/N…I thought I did, but things are a lot bigger then I thought.”

“What do you mean?” You turned to face him concern rippling over your features so much that even Steve began to feel it himself. Something he hadn’t experienced in years, “Steve…”

“I will get you caught up.” He reached over putting his hands on your arms, “I promise, but let’s get you settled…order some food…and then we can talk about this…and you and…everything.”

You relented getting the sense that you weren’t really getting an option. You sat in the truck a moment longer before getting out letting the humid air wash over you.

God, you really did miss all this. Steve came around the truck holding you bag giving you a smile as he walked past toward the house, “Welcome home, sis.”

“I may teeter the line between pretty stupid and pretty beautiful, but the important thing being is that I am always pretty!” a very tipsy but not exactly yet drunk, Steve McGarrett stumbling home wanting a smooch from his husband, having just been delivered by the other now out and proud navy buddied who’s op that night was getting Steve home because it’s the only way to shut him the fuck up about his Danno who he obviously missed so damn much, but it’s very much not Steve’s fault that this reunion fell around the same time Danny was getting back from Jersey after visiting for his sister’s birthday. 

Danny’s listening to him ramble about how one of his friends called Steve pretty annoying but Steve corrected him. 

The imagery could be added with Steve tripping and stumbling to the ground before ninja-ing(tipsy) onto the couch desting his head on Danny’s lap. Trying to get comfy and hug Danny while in this position. Telling him about his night, momentarily forgetting his goal before he’s reminded again and trying his best to get a kiss.

It’s Nothing

A/N: Sorry it took so long. I kept changing my mind on A lot of the details.

You knew taking a job with your brother was a bad idea, but add your boyfriend into the mix. You were just about to go insane. You love both of them but you were just happy that you were partnered with Chin for this case. 

You and Chin were currently doing a house search. While Danny and Steve checked the guest house. 

Chin was in the kitchen, when you moved to the stairs.

"Chin I'm going upstairs"

"Kitchens clear. I'm right behind you."

"Guys the guest house is clear. We are on our way." Danny came over your headsets.

"Got it." Both you and Chin said as you got to the top of the stairs.

You and Chin split up to check the rooms faster. As you reached your last room, Chin was still checking his. You opened the door to see someone taking a bag from under the desk.

"5-O hands up."you said as you aimed your gun at the man, he complied.

"Move around the desk slowly, then get down on the ground."  You reached up to your headset, "Chin, I got him in the office."

"I'm coming."

The man slowly moved around the desk but booked it for the open balcony door. You instantly ran after him. As you got to the door, you saw him jump over the railing. Without thinking you jumped off after him. You were able to make the landing.

"Chin, he jumped off the balcony. He's heading towards Main Street. Grab the car."

"Got it."

"Y/N, did we just see you jump off the balcony?" Steve chimed in.

"Yes you did, and kinda chasing the bad guy at the moment."

After this the only talking was location updates.

When you finally caught up to the suspect, he was trying to catch his breath and trying to hide behind a tree. You slowed down to sneak up behind him. You reached up and grabbed his shoulder. He sipped around to punch you. You ducked just in time, his hand kept going and he punched the tree. You kick his feet out from underneath him, instantly dropping him.

You pulled your gun from your thigh holster.

"Put your hands behind your back. If you try anything I will shoot you."

Chin came up from behind you, "that was awesome."

You kneel down to cuff him when you had a surge of pain go through your ankle.

"Son of a Bitch." You cuffed him and handed him over to Chin.

"Are you alright?" He asked you out of concern 

"Yeah, sorry I'm just tired and a little out of breath." You smiled and played it off like it was nothing.

After you guys got him to HQ and interrogated, you were able to leave but you waited until everyone else left before you did.

Steve came to your office when he was ready to leave.

"Are you ready to go?"

"No, you go ahead. I have a few things I need to wrap up before I leave."

"Like what?" he stepped into your office.

"Just some paperwork. " fully knowing you had finished your paperwork hours ago.

" You can leave it till tomorrow."

"I have never done that, and I'm not about to start."

" Okay, I'll see you at home." He came over and gave you a quick kiss before he left.

You waited another half hour to make sure Steve was really gone. You got up to leave, trying to keep pressure off your right ankle. You move slowly as you go around to  lock up and leave.

When you got out to your truck, you had to lean on it to rest your ankle. You had to do this a few times on the way to your truck.

"Why did I park so far away?" You said to yourself as you pushed yourself off your truck to leave.

Once in your truck, you realize that you are going to have to drive with your left foot. Which you have never tried before.

"Well this should be interesting." You slowly drove yourself to the hospital. It didn't go as bad as you thought.

After getting checked into Urgent Care, you didn't have to fill out any paperwork only because you had been in there so much all of the staff knew who you were. Not that you wanted to be in there as much as you were, but with the job you do and the people you work with, it's inevitable.

After you were taken back to wait for the doctor, your nurse Leah, was giving you an indecisive look.

"What is it Leah? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, umm it's just they aren't going to let you leave without someone to take you home. So do you want me to call Steve or Danny?"

"Oh, I completely forgot about that." You sighed and your head dropped.

After your exam, you were taken for x-rays just to make sure nothing was broken. The doctor ended up putting you in a boot. Leah came back to  take you to the waiting room. You had to wait for him to show up.

About 10 minutes later you see Danny come through the doors. He instantly ran over to you.

"Y/N, are you alright?"

"I'm fine, can we go now I'm tired."

"Umm…" before he could finish Steve came through the doors

"Oh crap."

He did just as Danny did and ran over to you.

"Y/N, why didn't you tell me? I came to your office before I left. I could have brought you here." He had a hurt expression on his face.

"It's not as bad as it looks."

"Not that bad?! Look around, we are in a hospital. You're wearing a boot. Don't tell me it's not that bad." He sighed and dragged his hands down his face. Before he could say anything else Danny stepped in.

"Hey, how about we get you guys home. Steve takes y/n's truck. I will take her home in my car so it's not as hard for her to get in."

You handed your keys over. Steve took them and left. He has never been this upset with you before. Danny helped you to his car. Neither of you said the word until you got on the road.

"Danny why did you call him?"

"What do you mean? He's your boyfriend."

" I had Leah call you for a reason." You put your head down. "I knew he would be upset. I just didn't want him to worry about me."

"This is Steve we are talking about. No matter what you do, he's going to worry about you. How do you think walking into the house with a boot on would have gone?"

"I would have handled it." You looked back at Danny and sighed. "I really messed up didn't I."

"No, I don't think so. You need to talk to him. Also don't keep things from him. Or me for that matter."

Soon after that Danny was pulling up outside your house. Steve was waiting in the front lawn ready to help you inside.

"Goodnight Y/nn."

"Goodnight Danno."

Steve came around to help you out of the car and inside. As he was locking the door, you attempted the stairs. You made it up two steps before you felt a hand on your back and the other behind your knees. Steve carried you up the stairs to the bedroom. He placed you on the bed, went to his dresser and pulled out one of his shirts for you. He knows it makes you feel better after a bad day.

You carefully take the boot off so you can change into a pair of sleep shorts. After changing he went and grabbed an extra pillow for your ankle. After he was done getting himself ready, he climbed into bed next to you.

"Steve, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I just didn't want you to worry."

"It doesn't matter if we are out in the field or in the office. I'm going to worry about you."

"And I love you for that, but you shouldn't have to."

"Well when you pull a stunt like you did today, I feel like I need too."

"I shouldn't have kept it from you. I promise the next time i get hurt I will let you know."

"Just promise me one thing."

"What's that?"

"You won't jump off balconies anymore."

"Oh… I don't know about that. I'm not going to make a promise I can't keep."

"Fair enough. Just try then."

"Okay. Now we need to try to get some sleep. We have to go to work in like 4 hours."

"No I have to go to work in 4 hours. You're staying home for a few days."

" What! No way. I will go crazy."

"Too bad, you can't even walk normally. You're staying here."

"I can stay in my office and work for my desk."

"You and I both know, if you come to work you're going to try to do a hell of a lot more than just stay at your desk."

"Come on, if you leave me here I will just get in my truck and drive myself." You gave him a smirk and an eyebrow raised. 

"Ugh… Fine, but if you leave your desk for anything other than the bathroom or lunch break, I will drag your ass back to bed. And I will take your keys and leave. Deal?"

"Fine."

He gave you a kiss on the forehead before moving closer and wrapping his arms around you.

"I love you Y/n"

"I love you too."

Christmas Surprise

A/N: @playbucky Xmas challenge 

Summary: You and your boyfriend decorate a Christmas tree and have a couple of surprises 

You and your boyfriend are currently decorating your guys Christmas tree. Normally his kids would be helping but Grace if off at college and Rachel took Charlie to England for Christmas. 

Danny was bummed that he wouldn’t see either of the kids on Christmas, and that it wasn’t all of you guys decorating the tree. So while you guys have been decorating the house you have been trying to cheer him up.

You guys finally got done decorating everything but the tree, so you guys are going through boxes looking at stuff for the tree, that’s when you find the funniest thing that you have ever seen. It’s a photo ornament Danny at 14 or 15 wearing parachute pants and he has a Mohawk.

So you hold it up to your boyfriend who is not paying attention and say “babe how come I have never seen your parachute pants and Mohawk stage” and you are dying of laughter at that point. 

Danny’s head whips around the fastest you have ever seen it whip around. He looks at the photo and says “where the hell did you find that” and he tries to grab it from but your to quick and you jump and grab your phone to take a picture. He sees what you are trying to do and says “babe don’t you dare take a picture of that” and he is trying to hold in his laughter and look upset.

You two struggle for it and at this point you are both dying of laughter but you manage to get it long enough to take a picture of it on your phone and send it to the Five-O group chat.

Danny pretends to be mad at you but you know that and made him happier than he had been all day. You guys are drinking spiked eggnog so you guys are also a bit tipsy but this is the most fun the two of have had in awhile.

After putting all the ornaments up including the one of Danny, which took a long time to convince him to let you put it on the tree, while your looking at the tree Danny comes up behind you and hugs you from behind and says “thank you for doing this with me babe I love you” You turn to him kiss him then say “of course, I love you too”

After you two just stood there hugging for a minute Danny looks at you and says “now will you do the honors of putting the star on the tree” you smile and say “I would love too” 

After you put up the star Danny goes into the bedroom to get something and you are picking stuff up when you see a giant red bow in a box that has never been used, you then see your red headband you have and make a plan.

Danny walks out of the bedroom and the first thing he notices is that you’re on the floor then he sees a red bow on your head and he smiles and asks “Why is there a bow on your head?” you smile from where you are sitting next to the tree and say “because I’m your present”

He bursts out laughing and says “you are on hell of a gift to have” you smile at his sweetness and say “why thank you, you aren’t so bad yourself” he smiles and lifts you up effortlessly and kisses you.

You guys stay like that for awhile then he starts walking with you in his arms, he sets you down on the kitchen counter. He looks at you and hopes this is the right decision.

He gets down on one knee, you gasp and he starts talking “y/n McGarrett I never thought I would want to get married again but then you came into my guns blazing just like your brother only this time I fell in love instantly. You are the light at the end of my tunnel you complete me my kids love you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me y/n I love you so much will you marry me?” 

Your silently crying and you’re so shocked you can’t talk so just nod your head and then finally manage to say “yes yes yes I’ll marry you. God Danny I love you so much” he kisses slips the ring on your finger and you guys are just hugging and crying happy tears and just enjoying the moment.

Then the moment is ruined when your brother walks into the house and looks at you guys in disgust and says “pda much” you and Danny look each other and at the same time you guys say “it’s our house!” 

Your brother rolls his eyes then sees the ring on your finger and then looks at the two you and smirks and says “I guess you finally popped the question” you look at Danny with wide eyes and ask “he knew?” Steve rolls his eyes and says “everyone at Five-O except you knew” you look at Danny and he shrugs and says “I’ve never been good at keeping a secret” you smile and look at your brother and your now fiance and know you are blessed to have this life.
