constantly thinking about steve hating the holidays, specially christmas, because of his family issues, mom who only loved being at charity events for holidays and a dad he didn't like, until he meets the love of his life and the light in his eyes ballerina!reader.
he will go to all the performances just to see his favorite dancer be the sugar plum fairy, taking every week and even his days off forcing everyone to attend wearing a suit, dress and etiquette, he will drive to the Indianapolis theater without caring what it is so far or very close.
when he met you he thought you were a ray of light and a spring girl, not until it was the first Christmas season, seeing you get really excited when selecting the Nutcracker characters and what their act would be.
steve loves to take his time putting on a formal suit, hair perfectly tidy, matching the tie with the beautiful dress his star dancer will wear that night, buying flowers and having a homemade dinner for two waiting for you at home. once the show is over, whether he went with the crew or not, he will wait for you with his bouquet in his hands and his arms open to kiss your lips and not stop telling you that you were the best, even if you are only in tights and an old sweatshirt that you had stolen from him.
he loves you so much that the first time he saw you being the sugar plum fairy with the crew, Max and Mike definitely couldn't help but make fun of how Steve took Robin's camera and took photos of the love of his life. After each show he would take off your sneakers and caress your legs to make you feel better and keep telling you that you were the best of the entire show.
he will definitely have a table designated for the nutcrackers, whether it's christmas or not, where there is a photo of the first christmas recital he was and a nutcracker <3
he just loved seeing you happy talking about the happiness the Christmas season gave you just because of “the nutcracker” and seeing your beautiful ballet dancer and happy winter girl.

the things you said are hanging in the middle of my mind, tonight.
i can’t turn them off.
you hadn’t been to family video in three weeks and steve desperately missed you.
winter had arrived in hawkins, bringing with it shorter days and longer restless nights. a tangy cold ran through the air, slipping under the door of the video store and creating a stupid fucking draft. steve watched the door anxiously as the stale air burned his nose. robin snorted. “dude, she’s not coming in,” she said. he huffed out a quiet “shut it, buckley” in response, keeping his eyes trained on the door. she rolled her eyes. “it’s your funeral, dingus.”
now that he thought about it, he hadn’t seen you around town either. he never saw your sweet face at the grocery store. or in the park where sometimes, he'd catch you lying on a blanket, enjoying the pre-winter breeze and blasting duran duran on your walkman's tinny headphones. hell, he even went to the library to seek you out. but it seemed that you had just plain disappeared from his life.
only his life.
steve asked anybody who came into family video if they knew where you were; they always made some offhanded comment about seeing you at a party or at your favorite boutique. the one you always got your little low cut blouses from, where trina denman had made you cry once and so he chewed her out the next time she came in to rent a movie -- pretty in pink. your movie.
"steve, you are a dipshit."
steve rolled his eyes and turned his gaze away from the door to see dustin standing in front of the family video counter.
"tell me something i don't know, henderson."
dustin rolled his eyes right back before hopping over the counter to get into steve's personal space.
"hey! man, what the hell are you-"
"apologize to her."
steve was startled at dustin's sudden seriousness. he'd only ever seen the kid get serious about upside down stuff or d&d. or, when he talked about you. he knew that you two really got along when he introduced you to all of the kids, but your bond with dustin ran deeper. you both often met at the old creek to go look at the wildlife there. you taught him about the flowers and the moss that surrounded you both, palming crisp bark and teaching him to appreciate the world around him, inadvertently worming your way into steve's heart even more as dustin regaled him of these tales.
"dustin, she doesn't want anything to do with me."
"because you haven't apologized yet. jesus christ, steve. it's like talking to a toddler. i swear." robin let out a sharp cackle from where she was eavesdropping. steve flipped her off.
dustin sighed. he just wanted to see you and steve happy. he snapped his fingers in front of steve's face to get his attention.
"i'm not a fucking dog."
"i'd argue against that." dustin chose his next words carefully: "whatever you do next has to matter more to her than anything you’ve ever done before."
i'm in a twisted web,
and i can't pull my head from it.
that first day when you came in was one of the best days of steve's life. he couldn’t believe that you, the golden girl, were speaking to him with such softness. but then, the thoughts he tried to cram away constantly invaded his mind, clouding whatever emerging feelings he felt for you. steve decided for himself that you were playing a game - making him the fool. and so he decided on revenge - playing you right back. poking out his tongue whenever he looked you up and down (which was quite a common occurrence). letting you cuddle into him whenever the two of you were seated even remotely close to one another (this was definitely not for his benefit as well). posing for pictures that you’d take with your polaroid camera that was “so annoying” to him (he’d never tell you that the picture robin took of the two of you, your back to his chest as he wrapped his arms around your waist, lives in his wallet - next to the first of your little notes).
steve liked to take his time with things and he knew you needed space, but three weeks was a long time, right? it was too long of a time for you to have not pranced into family video, excited to show steve your newest purchase. too long of a time for him to go without smelling your peach shampoo on his sweater after you’ve fallen asleep during one of your many viewings of pretty in pink. he missed the sting of your manicured nails on his forearm when you were so excited to tell him about a new trick that you landed, that you physically glimmered. he realized with a start that he missed your silly notes and the mirth in your eyes as you laughed at a dumb pun he made. he missed how you would light up even more than usual whenever one of the kids said hi to you outside of one of their hangouts that they'd taken to inviting you to. he missed you.
and he fucking hated himself for it. he felt stupid, used, and above all -- guilty. why would he feel guilty if he saved himself from whatever heartache you could bring him? your teary face flashed in his mind.
oh.
oh.
because you hadn't been trying to use him -- you actually liked him. a lot.
and he definitely was a little bit (a lot) in love with you.
and he only just figured it out.
robin watched her best friend as his face changed. she snapped her gum in her mouth before plunking down on the stool next to him. "i smell wood burning," she said, "what are you thinking about?"
steve turned to her.
"i fucked up."
i hang my head
and feel the oxygen drain.
agonizing hours passed as he thought about what to say to you. he almost missed the tinkle of the bell above the door, letting him know that there was a new customer in the store. from where he sat, all he could see where white sneakers. his eyes snapped to the top of the doorway, and he shrank in disappointment. walking through the door was chrissy cunningham, not you. she was holding pretty in pink, no doubt to bring it to you to cheer you up.
so, it seemed that you were just hellbent on avoiding him.
chrissy gave him a polite smile as she brought it to the counter. steve cleared his throat. she nodded at him in greeting. robin stood a little further back, entranced by everything in front of her (did she sort of want her best friend to get punched by chrissy cunningham? …yes).
steve handed chrissy her change and just as she left, he jolted to his feet.
“wait!” he said, as if the words couldn’t wait inside his mouth any longer. she hesitated, already knowing what he was going to ask.
“how is she?” he said, eyes honest as he searched chrissy for an answer.
she set her mouth in a grim line as she shook her head at him.
“steve, i’m not going to lie to you. she’s really hurt.” steve felt his mouth dry up instantly.
“would she even want to see me?”
chrissy sighed exasperatedly and gave him a shrug before looking at his wounded face. for however much he was hurting, she knew you were hurting way worse. she slammed her hands on the family video countertop, mustering up as much of a threatening tone as she could, pushing herself to the tips of her toes to look steve directly in the eye.
“i have never known someone as kind or genuine as her,” the tiny girl said very seriously, “so you better fucking fix this harrington, because even though you’re a dickhead for what you did, i know you care about her. and for some reason, she cares about you too. probably too much.” steve opened his mouth to reply but chrissy jammed her pointer finger into his chest. “fucking. fix. it,” she said through gritted teeth before waving to robin and swaying out the door.
you're never running out of ways
to worm your way back in.
the past few weeks have been hellish for you, to say the least. getting not only rejected but belittled by steve harrington, the boy you…love? yeah, love would be the best way to put it. you'd pined after that idiot since freshman year, your feelings only intensifying with time and your prolonged visits to family video. those same visits evolved into impromptu sleepovers due to your absent parents, nights out when the local carnival was in town, watching out for the kids on halloween.
you pretended to be fine in front of your friends, a group made up of jocks and the cheer team. you knew that lucas sinclair, one of the new basketball players, was friends with steve. so you avoided him as much as possible, but that didn’t help. everywhere you went, you felt like steve was following you. seeing the people he loved (because he obviously didn’t love you) caused the rift within you, one searing with pain and self-loathing, to deepen.
there was less of a pep in your step. your gentle attitude remained, but you were more melancholic than anyone had ever seen you. sure, you were always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear, but as soon as you were left with your own thoughts, it seemed like a shade had passed over your demeanor.
you hadn’t let anybody into your room since the pep rally, sinking into a cocoon made of your duvet and throw pillows for hours on end. your walkman was always pumped up on full volume. crumpled tissues blanketed virtually every surface - a palpable reminder of his words to you that continued to hang in your mind. you tried to block them out - to block him out - but steve had become so engrained within your daily routine without you even noticing.
his yellow sweatshirt lay on your desk chair, directly in your line of sight, which didn’t help with your attempts to wallow and just get it over with.
you didn’t even let chrissy in to talk to you - she had to resort to seeing you in public or talking over the phone. your room was your safe space: your zone away from anything (or anyone) else but you.
which made steve’s raucous entrance at 2 am all the more unwelcome.
anyone who knows what love is will understand;
you’ve always had me,
walking on a string.
you’d finally been pulled under into what could almost be described as sleep when you heard a thump and a quiet “fuck me!” you were alone in your parents’ large house (something about visiting your dad’s old boss — you couldn’t care less), which made the nighttime extra unnerving to you as a young woman, alone in the middle of fucking nowhere. that was something steve had known about, before he broke your heart.
you shot up immediately, rolling out of your bed and grabbing one of your sneakers to hold up as a makeshift weapon. your eyes were wide with fear and your voice shook as you spoke, “don’t come near me, perv!” you launched the shoe at the tall, dark figure, striking them in the shoulder. whoever it was taken aback and made a noise of pain. you were reaching for your other shoe when you heard your name. “it’s just me, sweetheart.” you lowered your arm as you took in his outline in the dark. you didn’t need light to know what he looked like; you’d spent long enough memorizing every freckle on his face. the slight gap in his left eyebrow from when he got cut in a fight and it scarred. how the right corner of his mouth used to be permanently curled in a smirk around you.
you squinted still.
“stevie? did you sneak through my fucking window?”
you couldn’t help but use his nickname. three weeks of the cold shoulder doesn’t exactly undo months (nay, years) of pining.
“you could’ve used the front door, you know. my parents aren’t home.”
he hadn’t said anything to you yet, allowing you to fill the silence with your half-awake rambling. he gave you a sheepish smile as you moved to stand in front of him, looking up at him with your arms crossed over your chest in worry.
“why are you here?”
you hated how your voice cracked.
he looked down at the floor and then back at you, meeting your eyes. you hated how you immediately got sucked back into the warm umber of his gaze. he sucked in a breath through his teeth, shaking hands in his pockets.
“i need to tell you something,” he said with as much sincerity as he could pour into his words. you rolled your eyes, turning to get back into bed. “i think i’ve heard everything i need to hear, harrington.” he said your name pleadingly, reaching out to envelop your fingers in his.
you hated how you let steve's warm fingerpads trace the inside of your wrist.
you especially hated that it made you feel better.
“please let me say this and then i’ll be out of your life forever.”
you nodded.
“i didn’t think that you’d want anything to do with me.”
your heart ruptured.
he continued: “you’re this stunning, whip-smart, sweet girl who everyone loves. and i’m just this washed-up guy who chauffeurs for six children and works in a video store.”
steve paused to look at you, not quite understanding the emotion pressed into the creases of your face.
“i thought that your friends put you up to this - to me. i thought you were just using me to get a laugh, so i thought i would use you right back.”
tears bubbled up along your lower lashline. your lower lip wobbled as he poured out the deepest, darkest crevices of his mind to you in your moonlight bedroom. your eyes adjusted to see him
“but then i got to know you. like really know you. and i realized that you were one of my favorite people ever. and then i felt like i’d fallen into your trap. and so i lashed out and i was a fucking dumbass and ruined whatever i could’ve had with the girl i love. what i’m trying to say is - i was an idiot and i really don’t want this to end before we even had the chance to start it, sweetheart.”
you let the tears fall unknowingly, but unlike the gym, steve cradled your face gently in his hands, swiping away the beads of saline that ran down the apples of your cheeks. you sucked in a breath, but it felt like the oxygen cascaded out of you instead; you brought your face closer to his.
“you’re so fucking stupid, harrington.”
and then you were kissing him.
it felt completely natural to you both - no hesitating, no waiting. he moved his mouth over yours, pressing your scantily-clad pajama-covered body into him. you felt the softness of his stomach and the hardness of his chest against you as you tried to get yourself impossibly closer. from where his shirt was slightly unbuttoned, you saw some of his chest hair. a path of warmth made its way down to the root of your core. he pulled away and you whined, chasing his mouth with yours.
he breathed out your name like it was a poem.
your smile was just as bright as it usually was, even through all of the salty wetness sliding down your face.
“i love you, stevie."
he looked at you like he wanted to bring the stars closer, just so you could get a better look.
"say it again," he teased gently as he nosed at your throat, prompting you to lift your chin and expose your neck. he started to pepper open mouthed kisses on your neck.
"i-i love you."
he sucked harshly on one spot, making you softly cry out. you pulled back and watched his pretty face form a pout.
"but you’re gonna have to make it up to me.”
he looked down at you with a boyish smirk, before dipping down to meet your lips with his once again.
“i can think of at least one thing that might help.”
he kissed you with a ferocity, a deep-seeded wanting. you sighed into the kiss and whimpered when you felt his tongue nudge against the seam of your mouth. you opened your lips in a surprised moan and he slipped his warm tongue in, licking the roof of your mouth. you let out another whimper, and he groaned. “those sweet little noises are gonna fucking kill me, baby.” his words were strained, his voice raspy, lips slick with a mixture of yours and his spit. you felt your face warm to match the heat emanating from your sex. he dove in to kiss you again, gently leading you toward your bed.
your back hit your cornflower-dotted duvet as steve caged you within his arms. your hands had made their way into his hair, mussing it far past anything that a few puffs of farrah fawcett hair spray could ever remedy. you felt the ache between your thighs grow and in your steve-induced haze, your hips jolted up to meet his. you were surrounded by him: the feel of his warm, wet mouth on yours. his smell -- lemongrass shampoo and pine cologne and something that just made him steve. steve tasted like promises and the cherry slushee he'd gotten with robin after work. his rough fingertips soothed over the spot at your waist where your flimsy tank top had risen. you maneuvered your hips over his groin again. the tiny bit of friction that his rough, tented jeans provided against your throbbing clit made you whine out his name.
“stevie,” you pleaded.
he moved his lips down your neck, lapping at your pulse and leaving a trail of bruises in his wake. the stimulation only made you move your hips more in desperation. you were already surprisingly close — not even nights alone in your room with your hands shoved down your cotton panties, imagining this very moment, were you ever close this quickly. one of his hands came down to squeeze your hip — not harshly, but as a reminder that he was in charge. he pulled away when he felt you move your hips again. he sighed. “pretty girl, i want to take my time with you. be patient.”
you looked at him through your heavy lashes, pouting a little as you grabbed for him to come back closer to you. “but i wanna feel you!” you exclaimed, pulling him down toward you to latch on to his neck and grind up toward his bulge. he hissed as you found his sweet spot, right between where his collarbone meets his neck. he panted out your name as the hand gripping your hip got tighter; you could see the hand near your face clench into a fist and he breathed shakily. “i want to feel you too, but i have to get you ready first, sweetheart. is that okay?”
your heart swelled so much you thought it might beat its way through your chest. you nodded bashfully as his hands finally slipped under your tiny pajama tank top. steve kissed you as his fingers danced over your ribcage. you shivered at their warmth and giggled when he intentionally tickled you. you felt him smile into the kiss (which did almost make your heart explode). but all thoughts of just how much you loved him went out the window when you felt his hand rub over one of the stiff peaks of your covered breasts. you arched upwards, pushing your chest into his hand. he chuckled at your eagerness and detached himself from your wanton mouth to remove your tiny top. your breasts met the air and steve looked at you in wonder, as if you deserved to be immortalized in the louvre. “god, you’re so fucking beautiful,” he murmured.
you suddenly felt shy, his words bringing you back into the present. here you were, topless with steve harrington giving you hickies. you grabbed his bicep gently with nerves puddling in your still lust-blown eyes.
“stevie, wait.”
he immediately gave you space, asking you oh so kindly, “is everything okay, baby?” you nodded. “more than okay. i just…” your voice faltered and you looked at your hands. he put his hands on the sides of your face, letting you sink into their warmth and weight. “it’s okay, pretty girl. you can tell me anything.” you bit your already kiss-bruised bottom lip.
“it’s just that i’ve never…this is the furthest i’ve ever been with anyone,” you rushed out. you desperately hoped that you hadn’t ruined things with him again. he sponged a kiss to the tip of your nose before saying, “i won’t do anything you don’t want me to do.” your eyes widened and you placed your hands over his on your face. “no no! i just wanted to let you know before we did anything else. i want it to be you, stevie. i love you.”
he smiled at that. “i love you too, sweetheart. god, i can't stop saying it.”
it was a miracle that your heart had still remained lodged in your chest at this point.
“kiss me, please,” you cooed, and he happily obliged, removing your thin pajama shorts in the process.
he left soft, wet kisses along the column of your throat, biting down gently on the top of your left nipple when he arrived at your tits. “perfect tits” as he called them. you squeaked and he laughed, the vibrations around your puckered bud heading straight to your pussy. you half-believed that your panties would be sheer from how wet you were.
he kneaded and pinched at your right nipple as he laved his tongue all over your left, giving you little nips that made you squeal and kisses that made you melt under him. he alternated between breasts and when your tits were sufficiently marked with imprints of his teeth, he placed his hand over your searing cunt. he watched your face change, your eyes rolling back, from the lightest of touches. you were equally as whipped for him as he was for you. steve groaned as he felt your thighs trap his hand, pushing the wet part of your panties into him. his eyes rolled back at the sight before him, your tits marked with his teeth, your eyes darkened for him, your pussy rutting into his hand, all covered in white cotton panties with a little pink bow. you whimpered when he took his hand away, searching for relief as your clit pulsed.
“what did i say, pretty girl?”
“that i have to be patient,” you answered shyly. he hummed.
“good girl.”
you burned from head to toe at his words.
he peeled your panties off of you, inhaling sharply as a string of your arousal connected you to the sopping cotton, only snapping once he had your panties partway down your thighs. “all for me, sweetheart?” you nodded shyly and pressed your thighs together, but he caught you and spread them again. “i wanna see you, baby,” he said before lowering himself to face your drooling cunt.
he licked a fat stripe up your slit, making you jump a little and let out a breathy gasp. steve grinned before spreading your folds with his hands and prodding at your quivering hole with his tongue. he moaned at your taste — tart and heady and you. you moaned as he sponged wet kisses to your folds, before moving up your thigh toward your needy clit. he looked you in the eye as he devilishly licked around the bud before latching his mouth onto you. steve sucked your clit into his mouth, gently brushing his teeth across your sensitive bud. you rushed your hips to meet his face and your hands flew to his head again. he gave a little laugh at your want. he kept his mouth attached to your clit as he gathered dipped his index finger into your folds, gathering your slick before pushing into your poor little hole. he muttered a curse under his breath.
“shit, sweet girl. you’re so fucking tight.” you contracted around his fingers at his voice, about to reply before he put his mouth back on your clit, sucking harsher than he had before. you felt yourself get impossibly wetter as steve began to pump his finger in and out of your entrance. you tried to move yourself on his hand, pleading for “more, stevie, more!” his middle finger slid in to join his index and you hissed at the stretch. he stopped to let you adjust and you marveled at how full you felt just because of two thick fingers. he eased the two of them in and out of you slowly, spreading you open for him. you were so lost in the pleasure that he was doling out that you almost missed his calls of your name.
“baby, can you take another one? d’you think you can?” his face had moved to hover over yours now; you could see your juices on his chin. you nodded frantically, shifting back and forth on his already dripping fingers. “please stevie — need it. need you.” he kissed you heatedly as he inserted his ring finger, swallowing your gasp with fervid swirls of his tongue. you keened as you felt the girth of three fingers inside of you; your fingers and imagination couldn’t do steve’s hands justice. he gave an experimental thrust, keeping up with his assault on your clit, with the heel of his hand. he kept kissing you, switching between gentle presses of his mouth to yours and hot, frantic swipes of his tongue. he noticed your cunt start to pulse, steadily getting tighter as you mewled. his fingers squelched as he slid them in and out of your sopping cunt. “steve, stevie, m’gonna-” you could barely get the words out before you let another loud moan. “gonna cum for me, sweetheart?” he teased, speeding up his ministrations. your voice was but a shred in the back of your throat at this point; the only response you were able to give him was a high-pitched sob. your mouth fell open and your head tilted back, renewing him access to your neck and chest. you felt yourself tighten even more as his lips brushed across the tender bruises he’d already made. the combination of his lips on yours, on your skin — his hand between your thighs — you were completely surrounded by him. he was knuckle deep by now, allowing your gummy walls to suck him in. your nails cut into his biceps as you breathed rapidly. “cum for me, baby,” he said through gritted teeth. at his permission, you let the taught string in your body snap. your walls tightened like a vice around his fingers, so tight that steve swore it could’ve cut off his circulation. your cunt fluttered around the fingers seated deep inside of you. your back arched off the bed and your gut tightened as the intensity of your orgasm washed over you in waves. your vision blurred as your body went limp, twitching with aftershocks. you said his name like a prayer through it all, finally blinking to clear your vision. you were met with his smug face as he gave you one last push with his fingers. you squeaked at the contact and he smiled at you, giving you a doting kiss on your swollen, bitten lips.
“all good, baby? you were so good for me. my good girl.”
you nodded, thoroughly exhausted, but also craving him. “stevie, i wanna feel you inside of me,” you said, giving him your best puppydog eyes. he gave you an easy smile, before searching the pockets of his jeans for a condom. “oh shit,” he said, exasperatedly. you sat up with a frown as he rooted through his belongings. “stevie, honey, what’s the matter?” he looked at you apologetically. “i don’t have a condom,” he said dejectedly. you reached out to kiss the corner of his mouth, to push the frown off of his face. you gave him a small smile and said, “s’okay! ‘m on the pill.” his pupils dilated, darkening his eyes so that only a sliver of hazel showed. “and i’m clean, because, yanno…”
“fuck,” he rasped out, “you can’t say shit like that to me, baby. i’ll cum in my pants like a fuckin’ dope.” you laughed your real laugh, his favorite laugh, and in that moment, he felt overwhelmed with love for you. so overwhelmed that as he pulled his cock out, he told you again. he called your name softly to get your attention.
“i love you so goddamn much,” he said, pouring every drop of earnestness he could into his words. now that he knew that his words actually did matter to you.
“i love you too, steve harrington,” you said as you leaned up to plant a sweet kiss on his cheek. he chased your mouth with his to lay a series of quick kisses to your lips, muffling the giggles that tumbled from your throat. he rose to his knees above you and shucked off his jeans and his boxers.
now, you’d never seen a cock before in your life, but fuck, were they all as pretty as steve’s? his cock was just, so pretty: a red tip that gave way to a flesh-toned shaft, thick with a vein on the underside of his length. his head was leaking in frustration. your eyes widened as you took him in, wondering if his massive shaft would be able to fit inside of you.
he teased his ruddy tip through the wet mess between your thighs, stroking himself with your cum from earlier. he placed one of his hands on your hip, interlacing the fingers of his other hand with yours, letting your entwined hands rest by your head.
“are you ready, sweetheart?”
you gave a soft “yes” in reply and gulped down a breath. he noticed how you tensed up and squeezed your hip gently. “we don’t have to if-” “no!” you exclaimed, “i want to it’s just…what if i’m not good?” his heart almost shattered as he looked at the worry written across your sweet face. he brought his lips to the crease between your brows, pecking you there to tell you to relax your face. “you’re perfect to me already, baby,” he said, oh so honestly. and you believed him, because it was your stevie looking at you like you were the only real thing in his life. “okay, i’m ready,” you said, relaxing into your bed a little more.
steve guided his tip to your quivering entrance and kissed you as he slid the fat head of his cock in. you gasped as he breached your walls, arms winding around his neck. your jaw fell open, slack against where your chin rested on his shoulder, almost impossibly close to him. the fullness of his fingers was one thing, but this was totally different. the stretch was addictive as he slid into you inch by inch. he worked you open gently, and you wanted him to stay inside you forever. he noticed that you’d gone quiet and brought a hand up to comb through his hair in order to see you better. “everything okay?” you nodded fervently, wriggling your hips and mewling out, “stevie more, more.” at your words, he bottomed out, heavy balls slapping against your ass and you made a strangled noise into the air as he moaned into your neck. “fucking- holy shit, you feel so good.” your walls contracted around him and steve had an idea. he started slowly thrusting into you, allowing you to get adjusted to the feeling of his heavy cock inside of you. all the while, dripping praise into your waiting ears.
"you're doing so well f'me," he said, still thrusting into you slowly -- wanting to make this about you, not him.
but something inside him snapped when you said, “stevie, fuck me.” he started pounding into you, jackhammering his hips against yours, making your eyes roll back so far in your head that all you could see was black. his chest hair brushed against your nipples, meaty thighs brushing against you with coarse hair during every thrust. you choked out a loud moan at the sensation, clapping a hand over your mouth at the volume. he noticed that your sounds had become muffled and whispered into the air between you two: “c’mon pretty girl. i wanna hear those sweet sounds you make.” his balls slapped against your ass as he rolled his hips into yours; the sounds of flesh against flesh ricocheted off the toile wallpaper in your bedroom. the wetness between your thighs kept spreading, creating a lewd slap as he plunged into you over and over again.
his spongy tip pushed against your g-spot and you clenched around him desperately. he moaned at the sensation, muttering a curse under his breath and something about how tight you were. you bit his shoulder after a particularly hard thrust, causing him to hiss and shudder. your walls started to spasm around his cock as that big vein of his pummeled into your sticky cunt. your whimpers became faster and higher as you chased your orgasm, steve right there with you. “stevie!” you yelped as he continued his brutal pace. “’m right there with you, baby. let go,” he whispered, his lips covering yours. you did just as he asked, a borderline pornographic whine slipping its way out of your throat and plastering itself across his mouth. you clenched impossibly tightly around him, stuttering out, “want it inside, please stevie,” as you were pushed over the edge. your pussy pulsed and your body shook, muscles tense as he milked your puffy cunt for all of your juices. you sobbed while you came; it was the hardest you’ve ever cum, your intense love for steve amplifying every shockwave. your legs were wrapped around him, heels digging into his back as he gave you one lasting thrust, his hips stuttering. you felt a warmth extend through your weeping cunt as he painted your sweet walls. the feeling of his hot ropes of cum filling you caused you to tighten around him once again, riding out the last waves of your orgasm.
neither of you moved for a while as steve remained inside of you, both of you at a loss for words. he raked a hand through his sweaty brunette mop and gave you a kiss, pushing all of his feeling into it as he eased out of you. you whimpered at the resulting emptiness, reaching your arms out to keep him in bed with you. he smiled, dropping a smattering of kisses to your face. you giggled and held his head in your hands to catch his lips. he pulled away with one final peck to your lips, pulling on his boxers. you sat up with a melancholy look in your eyes, but he squeezed your ankle in reassurance, telling you that he was “just gonna go ‘n get a washcloth for you, sweetheart.”
he returned moments later from your ensuite with a damp cloth, kissing up your leg as he wiped down the apex of your thighs. he wiped himself off and grabbed his shirt for you, gently telling you to raise your arms as he slipped it over your head. he lay down and opened his arms for you, as you giddily landed on his chest. you reached over him to turn on your bedside lamp and he quirked an eyebrow up at you.
“just wanna look at you s’all,” you said delicately, as you let your fingers play with the curls at the nape of his neck. his heart stumbled at your words and he squeezed you tighter.
“i’m sorry,” steve said again, “i love you so, so much.”
you yawned and snuggled into him, throwing your other arm across his body, murmuring into the air shared between you two: “you’re the only one for me ever, stevie.”
he looked at you in the buttery light of your bedside lamp, half-asleep on him, drowsily babbling about everything you loved about him (his jokes, his freckles, his loyalty), nose squished into his neck as far as possible.
and he realized, in that moment, that he’d always walk on whatever string you led him on.

WARNINGS slight spoilers abt s4 ep 4 !!
“ for the love of god what’s taking her so long.” steve said opening his car door. “ give her some time steve.” dustin said looking down at the letter that had his name written on it from you. “ I don’t have all the time in the world Henderson.” steve said slamming the car door close.
“ okay chop chop l/n.” steve said looking at your figure sitting down on the grass. “ y/n.” steve said placing his hands on his hips. no response. “ y/n you can hear me come on.” he says again taking a deep breath in. still no response. He noticed how you didn’t move a single muscle, “ y/n..” he says again. “ y/n!” he yelled running to you. he crouched down shaking you, “ y/n wake up! wake up!” steve yelled shaking you roughly.
“ guys! dustin! lucas!” steve yelled. “ come on y/n please!” steve said his eyes filling up with tears. “ wake up!” he yelled shaking you non-stop. dustin and lucas came running to him. “ woah what the-” lucas said. “ y/n! y/n wake up!” lucas said slapping you a couple of times. “ h-hold on!” dustin said running back to the car.
“ y/n please! wake up!” steve said grabbing your hand gripping onto it tightly as if it was the last time he would feel your touch. “ can you hear us!” lucas said quickly sitting infront of you. steve kept shaking you from the side gripping onto your hand.
dustin came running back with a walkman and cassettes. “ guys! “ dustin yelled throwing them to the ground. “ what is this?” lucas yelled looking at the cassettes. “ what’s her favorite song?” dustin says. steve looks at dustin, “ why?” he says shakily as tears rolled down his cheeks. “ robin said if she listens- it’s too much to explain! what’s her favorite song!” dustin shouted, making direct eye contact with steve.
“ quick quick which one is it!” dustin says looking through the cassettes. steve looked down, each cassette held a special memory of you two. he looked down at the dancing queen cassette and smiled. memories rushed into his mind.
flashback
“your so stupid.” you laughed out as you watched your best friend steve run around your room in a wig and your ballerina shoes. “how do you wear these?” he says trying to balance with the shoes on almost tripping. “ careful harrington!” you laughed out covering your face. steve looked at you smiling admiring your beauty. your eyes made him feel special, he felt almost honoured to be able to witness how your eyes lit up whenever you laughed or smiled. and your smile, oh fuck your smile. your smile alone can him go batshit crazy, the way the corner of your lips would create the most heart stopping action would make blood rush to his face whenever you smiled. his heart was racing as he watched you cover your face due to laughing so much. “ no i’m being very serious right now? do your feet not break? i mean this is crazy.” steve said moving the pink fake hairs from the wig out of his face, with a bit too much force making the wig fall off. “oh no my hair.” steve said picking it up. you kept laughing turning around turning up your cd player. “ohh come on dance with me.” steve said dancing to the song playing. dancing by abba. “ no i’m not dancing with you steve!” you said giggling. “ come onnnn y/n.. you can dance. you can dance. having the time of your life oooh! come on lazy pants.” steve says grabbing your hands gently pulling you towards him. you connected your hands with his and started jumping and dancing around. steve smiled, he felt lucky.
he watched as the two young boys kept looking through cassettes trying to figure out which one was your favorite. his eyes looked at another cassette which brought back memories, angel eyes by abba.
flashback
“ steve come on i need your opinion!” you said twirling around in the light blue dress trying to get an opinion out of your best friend. “ y/n you look fine.” steve says looking at the magazine in his hands. “ your not even looking harrington.” you said walking up to him and snatching the magazine from him. “ hey come on y/on not cool-” he quickly cut himself off once he looked up at you. his eyes almost popped out of his skull, his hearts did flips and twirls in his chest, butterflies went crazy in his stomach, blood rushed to his face. “ y-you uhm.” he cleared his throat. “ you look great.” he said looking down at his shoes. you looked at him then back at yourself in the mirror, twirling a bit. “ i don’t know. do you think jonathan would like it?” you asked turning back to him. steve looked at you a bit taken back, “ j-jonathan? as in jonathan byers?” steve said tilting his head to the side. “ yeah jonathan byers. will’s brother.” you said smiling. steve looked down at his hands, ouch. “ i don’t know it’s up to him.” he said quietly. “ steve come on. okay look. if i were nancy would you like it?” you said looking back at steve throwing up jazz hands. nancy? oh right nancy. nancy wheeler. no. there was no way. you were the only one that made him feel that way. you are the most beautiful girl in the world in his opinion. “ sure.” he whispered quietly looking back at you. you looked back at the mirror checking the dress out, “ oh wait wait! it’s our song!” you said grabbing steve’s hands. “ y/nnnnn.” he whined giggling. “ harringtonnnn! “ you giggled. “ come on twirl princess.” you said trying to twirl him. steve giggled twirling. “ now you twirl.” he said, you twirled. you two looked at each other for a bit before you two before down laughing.
it was that one. that was your favourite song. ever since it played in the winter ball when you two were younger it became your favourite song. steve zoned out from the two boys that were arguing, he grabbed the cassette. “ this one! it’s this one.” he said opening the case. dustin immediately grabbed it out of his hands and put the cassette in the walkman. “ hurry!” lucas said. dustin grabbed the headphones putting them on you.
“ let me go!” you yelled at vecna. both of your hands were tied near your head. you were pinned against a tree vecna trapping you. “ stop running from me y/n.” vecna said. “ your not really here.” you shouted. “ oh but i am.” vecna said choking you. “ go away.” you choked out. vecna brought his hand up to your face, “ join me y/n.” vecna said tightening his grip on your neck.
last night i was taking a walk along the river
you looked up confused and shocked. “ y/n! y/n!” you heard people yelling from afar. you recognised their voices. steve, dustin, and lucas. you looked back at vecna with tears forming in your eyes. “ let me go.” you cried out trying to break free to your hands. “ y/n please wake up!” steve cried out shaking you. you clenched your fists tears rolling down your face. this was it. this is the end you thought.
and i saw him together with a young girl.
“ y/n! please wake up i love you!” steve shouted out. your eyes shot wide open. memories of you and steve started playing in your head. “ y/n you can hear us!” dustin cried out. memories of you and the kids started playing in your head. this can’t be the end. this couldn’t be the end. you have so much to live for. you have so much left to accomplish. you have your whole life ahead of you. you have a whole life with steve ahead of you.
and that look he gave her made me shiver
you quickly punched vecna making him stumble back. you this opportunity and started running, “ wake up l/n!” lucas yelled. you kept running and running. the floor started shaking and falling apart. nothing was stopping you and nothing ever will, the desperate cries of your friends made you realize you have so much to live for. tears rolled down your face as you kept running. dodging dirt and rocks erupting from the floor as quick as you can. the gate seemed to be getting closer and closed. you turned your head around to look at vecna who seemed to be frozen in his spot. you turned back around and jumped into the gate.
you woke up looking around, you looked back at steve and broke down crying jumping on him. steve immediately grabbed you hugging you tightly suffocating you. you grabbed his hand holding onto it tightly crying. “ i’m here i’m here.” you cried out holding onto him tightly. his grip around you tighten as he let out a sobs, “ shit i thought i was gonna lose you.” he cried.
dustin jumped on you two hugging you tightly. “ holy fuck.” dustin whispered. lucas quickly joining in on the hug. “ i love you guys so much. i love you guys so fucking much i thought i was gonna die and i didn’t wanna die without you guys knowing how much you mean to me and i know i never say it but i mean it i love you guys so much you mean the whole world to me and i would rather die then live in a world without you.” you mumbled running out of breath between sobs and hiccups. the two boys let go of you, you tried sitting up but steve held you down. “ no no stay. i can’t let go of you right now.” steve whispered hiding his face in your hair. you meant the world to him. you were the biggest comfort in his life. he can’t live in a world without you. “ you love me?” you whispered looking up at him. steve moved his head away from your hair and looked down at you. he raised his hand wiping the tears from your eyes. “ y-yeah…” he whispered as tears kept rolling down his face. “ i’m sorry..” he said. “ i love you too steve.” you whispered.

s. harrington || you belong with me
A/N: my personal thanks to u and our lord and savior, source of all my inspiration: ms. taylor alison swift
The day you met Steve Harrington was one you couldn’t quite remember, granted the two of you had been in kindergarten then. Your mother loves to recount the story on your birthdays, how he had stolen your favorite crayons and you retaliated by flicking your mashed potatoes at him. Eventually, you both made up and bonded over finger painting, and you both had been inseparable since.
Even through the awkward years of pre pubescent middle school kids to the more intimidating environment that was high school, you both had managed to remain as good friends, best friends, that was, when Steve wasn't out with his other more well known friends.
Of course you saw it coming, even from miles away, as you and Steve first set foot on the High School campus, you knew deep down that he would be swept away by the popular crowd, because even you had to admit that he was charming, the fact that he had perfect hair only ever boosted his reputation.
Passing notes and always spending you lunches together turned into short 'hi's' and 'hello's' as you passed each other by in the hallways, every time Steve and you had managed to snatch some alone time to talk, somehow one of his friends always managed to barge in, dragging Steve away with him.
Despite how dejected you felt whenever he was taken away from you, you let him go each time. It wasn't as if you were together anyway, you and Steve? The king of Hawkins High with some band geek nobody? Not a chance.
After years of being friends with the Steve Harrington, absolute heartthrob of the school, could anyone truly blame you if you told them you'd had a crush on him since the fourth grade?
For years you had buried whatever feelings you had for him deep inside you, locked up in a dungeon of your own creation along with all your dreams of becoming a ballerina or astronaut.
You convinced yourself it was never going to happen, especially now that he was currently dating the captain of the cheerleading team who also happened to be one of your biggest bullies, none other than the queen of hell herself: Heather McNamara.
You told yourself it was natural, predictable even. She was pretty, she was popular, she was actually a really talented cheer leader, and she made him smile--despite how she tormented you, you tried to force down the bile that crawled up your throat whenever you saw his arm slung around her shoulder, the little kisses she would throw him while she did her cheer routines as he played basketball, while you were the one stuck on the bleachers.
Curse the stupid made up hierarchy that was high school.
Although you and Steve seemed to be drifting apart while at school, that wasn't the case at all outside of class. Sometimes, every after school when you didn't have band practice and Steve didn't have whatever sports practice he was into at the time, you would both spend afternoon until night driving around Hawkins, with music turned up and the windows down as you two yelled out the lyrics to your favorite songs.
Those were the moments you liked most, where you could be you, and he could be the Steve you always knew him to be.
Then he'd drive you both home, which was easy, considering the fact that your houses were right next to each other, with his bedroom window only a few feet away from yours. When you were little, to avoid waking any of your parents up, you and Steve would communicate with big pads of paper, chatting through writing way past your bedtime.
You smiled at that memory.
"And then Heather said 'I'll bring my own cassette tapes next time,' like, um, what? Y'know, if she didn't like my music she could've just said that and I would've turned it off, I don't know why she had to be so passive aggressive about it, and her tone was just--"
You furrow your brows and shake your head. "Dude, if that annoyed you so much why don't you just talk to her about it?"
Steve groans. "That's the thing! Whenever I try to talk to her about something that's bothering me that she does, she always twists my words and make it so that I'm the villain! I mean-- that's not fair!"
You huff, giving him an incredulous look. "If it's like that every time you confront her for stuff that she does to make you feel bad, why are you still with her then?"
"Because!" Steve starts, shrugging. "I don't know, I think I might really like her, she could be the one, y'know."
You let out a fake barfing noise. "Gross, keep that sentimentality away from me please."
"You know, I think you'd have a better understanding if you were in the same situation." He says before turning the steering wheel down towards the park you were supposed to be going to.
You scoff, turning in your seat to face him. "And what's that supposed to mean?"
"I mean," Steve inhales before blowing out of his mouth. "You've been single for like, the longest time, (y/n), you sure there aren't any cute band geeks you're hanging out with?"
"As if I'd ever want to be all mushy gushy with someone like that." You roll your eyes for what seemed to be the tenth time during this car ride. "Like 'oh babe how are you, I missed you so much', 'oh baby I missed you too'." You tease, mimicking Steve's deep voice and Heather’s high pitched one as you say those words, right before putting your fingers together and making your hands kiss while imitating kissing noises.
"Hey! Stop that." Steve whines, slapping your hands down as you giggle.
"Now I get why no one wants to date you." He murmurs, but you hear his words perfectly, causing you to punch him square on the bicep.
"Ow! Hey, I was just joking, alright? You're great, (y/n), I'm sure you'll find someone soon."
"Last time I checked, Harrington, I don't need to date anyone simply in order to boost my popularity, okay?" You retaliate, crossing your arms.
"Ouch, (y/n), you make me seem so vain." Steve places a hand over his heart to feign hurt.
You laugh sarcastically before looking at him while batting your lashes. "Glad you noticed."
He rolls his eyes at you, nudging your forehead with his fingers and you laugh.
You'll find someone someday, his words echo in your mind.
But as you watch him laugh and smile with joy as he turns up the volume to his favorite song with the afternoon sun pouring through the car window to illuminate his face in gold, you didn't need to look any further.
Because you had already found someone.
...
It was a typical Tuesday night, your current favorite song blasting through your speakers as you read a book that you needed to understand for class. Unable to even remotely understand the author's words in their 19th century grammar, you let your mind wander as you stared at the page.
Prom was coming soon, and there was no doubt in your mind that Steve would be crowned prom king, along with his snooty little girlfriend.
You sigh, shutting the book. You spot Steve in his room from the view you had into his bedroom window, he was pacing around the room, the phone wire getting caught in his chair before he yanked it out.
You didn't know exactly what was going on, but you saw his animated hand gestures, the frustration on his face as he ran his hand through his hair.
With your eyebrows knitted together, you get off your bed, making your way towards your window. Steve finally slams the phone down, his face tinged with red from all the yelling he had done. He catches your eye, and you give him a concerned look through your window. He quirks his eyebrows, shrugs, and shakes his head.
Swiftly, you grab the big sketchbook that you usually reserved for your art classes, writing a message to him in big black letters with your sharpie.
He looks at you with confusion as you scribble down your message, his eyebrows turning upwards as he realizes what you were doing.
'Are you okay?' It read.
He grabs his own pad of paper, the yellow pad he was supposed to use to take notes in, scrawling his own message in black marker.
'Not really.' He replied.
You shoot him a frown.
'What happened?'
He shakes his head, sighing, before turning the pad of paper towards you, revealing his message.
'We had a fight again :('
The sad face he doodled almost makes you laugh. He was still the same dorky Steve under that popular mask he wore after all.
'Sorry about that'
He comes closer towards his window, opening up the latch to slide the window pane upwards.
"You wanna go for a walk?" He calls out.
You smile, opening up your own window. "Sure."
...
You sneak your way into the kitchen and out the back door, memories of doing the same sneaking out as kids when either of you were grounded replay in your mind.
You carefully unlatch the gate to his backyard, making sure there would be no noise to alert anyone, tiptoeing your way up the back porch until you stood at his own back door, waiting.
"Hey." He greets, eyes not meeting yours.
"Hey," You smile. "Everything okay?"
He makes his way past you, shaking his head while you follow him.
"No, not really."
"What happened?"
"She," He hesitates, shoving his hands into his jacket pockets. "She broke up with me."
You feel bad for him, you do, but if that meant him finally being free of a toxic relationship, you couldn't help but feel relieved.
"Oh." Is all you manage to say.
"But I'm gonna get her back." He says with conviction, nodding his head as his eyes looked far away into the horizon, as if he was imagining the ways he would somehow win her back.
You furrow your eyebrows and scoff, which catches his attention and snaps him out of his daydream.
"What?" He says, bewildered and confused by your reaction.
"You're kidding, right?"
"No? I'm serious, I'm gonna win her back, just wait and see."
You roll your eyes, incredulous at his response.
"Why? You don't even like her that much!"
"How could you even know that? You don't know me!" He cries out, emphasizing his words with wild hand gestures.
"That's another thing you're wrong about, Steve, I do know you, and I know that you're making one of the biggest mistakes in your life." You say the last few words with a hint of cynical laughter in your voice.
"Where the hell is this even coming from, (y/n)? I really like this chick, what more is there to it?"
"Oh so you 'really like this chick' but you just so happen to complain about her all the time?"
Steve stammers for a moment. "Love's complicated like that, I don't know, I just know that I need to take her to prom too--"
"Oh so that's it!" You exclaim sarcastically, moving your hands into wild gestures of their own. "Steve, the king of Hawkins High, is afraid to go to prom without a date."
"Yeah, well, at least I actually have the chance to have a date on my arm, not sure I can say the same thing about you, can I?" He seethes.
You squint your eyes at him in disbelief. "You're seriously bringing that up right now?"
He shrugged. "I figured that since you were such an expert about love you'd be in a relationship oh no wait," Steve points at you. "You're not."
You let out a laugh devoid of any joy. "At least I don't go out with people who aren't good for me for the sake of keeping my social status." You reply, words dripping with poison.
"Yeah well, at least people know me. I mean, who even are you at school besides the band geek who follows Steve Harrington around like a lost little puppy?"
You lick your lips, resolve faltering. "Is that really what you think of me?"
Steve sucks in a breath, closing his eyes as he rubs them, then shakes his head. "No, no, (y/n), I--"
"You know what? Fine, I'll stop following you around like a lost puppy. As far as I know, you're on your own, Harrington." You say, anger bubbling in your veins as you stomp away from him.
You don't even notice the look of regret in his eyes as you turn your back.
...
It had been a week since you last stopped talking to Steve, avoiding him at all costs whenever you were at school, closing the curtains to your window to make your one message very clear: Don't talk to me.
Sometimes you wondered what happened to the two of you. You two used to be like two peas in a pod, he told you everything there was to know about him, his entire life story.
Steve felt nothing but guilt as you brushed past him in the hallways, barely even sparing him a glance. He remembers those days where the two of you would sneak out to go on walks, or 'nightly adventures' as you two used to call it growing up. He recounts the moments he'd spend with you, sharing secrets, hopes, and dreams under the stars. He had told you everything there was to him. Steve was stubborn, but he knew you were right; you did know him, down to the very specs of stardust in his bones. He had told you his life story, but he forgot to mention all the chapters you had always been a part of.
...
Prom was only a day away now.
As much as you brushed your friends' invitations off, you couldn't ignore the endless pestering of your mother.
"Oh, come on, (y/n), it's your high school prom! I remember how fun my little proms were, come on, sweetheart, you need some sort of grand moment in your life to commemorate your high school days! Pleaasee." She had begged and pleaded with you.
Finally, after more pestering and nagging, you relented.
So now here you were, walking your way towards the gym after your mother had dropped you off, snapping an endless supply of pictures of you on her polaroid, gushing about how stunning you looked.
Before you left the house, you had caught your reflection in one of the mirrors by the living room, and, as vain as it was, you had to admit that you looked good.
Your hair was meticulously styled courtesy of your mother, makeup brushed on to highlight your best features, that, along with the elegant dress of your favorite color you and your mother had chosen paired with the matching jewelry made you feel the best about your appearance for the longest time.
You walked into the gym, decorated with various balloons and streamers, your mouth widening into a smile as you caught one of your friends from band. You ran over to them as best as you could with the strappy heels you wore, tackling one of them in a hug.
As you laughed and drank punch with your friends, your eyes caught a glimpse of none other than Steve 'the hair' Harrington. He glances towards your direction and you two make eye contact, which you immediately break as you turn to your friends.
"So, you guys see anyone cute yet?" You say.
"Uh, duh, Steve Harrington is literally standing right there." Your friend replies, quirking an eyebrow.
"Actually, he's walking towards us now." Your other friend says as she fixes her hair.
You bite your lip, sure, you weren't mad at him anymore, but you were still a little annoyed. Ever the prideful one, you only looked down at your drink as Steve approached you.
He waved to your friends, sending them a small smile before he turned to you.
"(y/n), can we talk?"
"What's there to talk about?" You casually shift your eyesight to the side, intent on not even making eye contact with him. While he was the pretty one in the friendship, you were most definitely the petty one.
He rolls his eyes at you and sighs. "Look, I know you're probably still annoyed at me, and I'm sorry, but can we please just talk? You and me?"
You close your eyes, letting out a breath, before you look at him. "Fine."
He grins, finally, you were talking to him. He leads you away from your friends and to the dance floor.
You quirk your eyebrow at him. "Steve, where are we--"
"Come on, (y/n), dance with me." He holds out his hand towards you.
Memories of you pining for him for years envelop your heart, and you just couldn't tell him no, not with those sweet, pleading eyes of his.
You take his hand, and as if on cue, a slow song starts to play.
Before you know it, you had your arms wrapped around his neck and his hands at your waist. Your heart thumped against your chest, still, you tried your best to play it cool. After all, the two of you were completely platonic, And, much to your dismay, nothing could ever change that.
"You were right." He says, snapping you out of your thoughts.
"What do you mean?"
"About Heather," He says, looking into your eyes earnestly. "She and I.. we just weren't right for each other."
"Oh, um, okay." Is all you can manage to say as you felt your cheeks flush pink when you caught his gaze flickering towards your lips.
"I've spent my entire life chasing after things, people, because I guess being popular and liked by a lot of people made me feel wanted, loved." He laments, gazing at your features with affection.
You let out a soft chuckle in an attempt to ease your nerves. Throughout your entire life of knowing Steve, you had never been so close to each other like this. "Glad you finally noticed."
He laughed, softly, before he licked his lips. "Guess I was too busy trying to impress the world that I forgot about the one person who I saw as my world."
When he looks at you like that, with that affectionate, kind look in his eyes, how could you ever stop your heart from melting?
"That person's you, by the way." He smiles, clearing up his words.
You squint your eyes at him, despite the smile that graced your lips.
"That was the cheesiest thing I've ever heard, Stevie."
He laughs, shaking his head. "It was worth a shot."
"What, did you spend like 30 minutes of your time practicing that line in front of your mirror or?" You teased.
He rolls his eyes playfully at you before leaning his forehead on yours.
"Can't get anything past you, can I?"
You beam at him, eyes crinkling as you smiled. "Never."
He laughs before he kisses you on both cheeks, then on your nose, then your forehead, until he reaches your lips. You practically melt into him as his soft lips move against yours, ever so gently, and you swear you could stay in this moment forever. Despite the sea of people around you, whispering and gossiping about the band geek and the king of Hawkins, all of that faded away as you swayed to the rhythm with Steve, your Steve, who you knew inside out, who knew you down to the tiny specs of stardust in your bones.
And nothing and no one could ever take that away from either of you.

A/N: ALL PART UNDER THE TAG -The Byers Harrington Story-
series masterlist
we are going to ignore time when reading my stories because i also ignore it when writing! i put two and three together, but honestly ep3 (the physical ep) is barely in here, just the fight between stancy and a quick scene of joyce calling the radio shack for bob, once we leave the party that’s where ep3 begins.
thank you to @alecmores for proof reading!
previous chapter next chapter
Halloween has finally arrived in Hawkins, Indiana. House decorated in fake cobwebs, a corn maze was organized by Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins, and candy was sold out in pretty much every grocery and convenience store. Pumpkin patches sadly were supposedly destroyed, so you weren’t able to pick one out to carve with Will like you usually do. But it was still going to be a great Halloween, you asked Robin over the phone yesterday if she was interested in going to Tina’s party and her response was, “do you really want to go to the party? Sure you don’t want to just come here?” “We don’t have to stay long, an hour at most, if we aren’t enjoying it after that, then we can go to your place. Deal?” “Mmm, sure. It’s a deal.”
You felt so giddy at the idea of finally going to a high school party, you tried to bring it down a notch knowing it’s not gonna be like the movies, but still, a Halloween party! You hope it was good enough to stay longer than an hour. You’re gonna let yourself be a dumb teenager tonight and get fucking drunk.
With your hair styled in tight ringlets and tied together with a blue ribbon, a light blue shadow dusted over your lids and your lips puckered pink. You smooth your hands down the fabric of the blue dress and slipped into some blue ballerina flats. You took a look into your mirror to see if you need any touch-ups or if you looked stupid, but when you looked into the mirror, you smiled. You felt quite pretty today.
Walking from your room to the kitchen you took a peek inside Will’s room, he was wearing his beige Ghostbusters jumper and Joyce was helping with the black ghost pack. You leaned against the doorway for a moment before speaking, “Nice costume.”
Will and Joyce both turned in the direction of your voice. Will had a shining smile on his face and Joyce placed her hands over her heart.
“Pretty dress,” Will noted.
“Honey, you look so beautiful!” you thought Joyce was gonna spill a few tears.
Thanking both of them, you stepped into the room and sat down on Will’s bed, holding your hands out for him to take. Your hands rest on your thighs while you just look at Will, then you move a hand to smooth his bangs and you let your eyes search him, trying to find something. With a hand on his cheek you leaned in closer to him, “are you okay?” you whispered.
He took a moment, but in the end, he just nodded a yes to your question. You didn’t want to push him, not after yesterday, but you knew he wasn’t telling the full truth. You gave a forced smile to Will, trying to show him that you were gonna try and step back just a bit.
Standing from the bed, you smoothed his hair one more time before heading to the kitchen where you could smell Jonathan making breakfast. The smell of eggs, sausage, and some toast wafted through the house, a comforting smell. With a plate already set on the table, you decided to dig in.
“You know-” you said with some eggs in your mouth, “you will make a great housewife one day.”
Jonathan scoffed at your joke, “Oh, and you’re gonna find an amazing trophy husband in the future.”
“Hell yeah. Just because I’m able to birth babies doesn’t mean I want to constantly take care of them, I’m already like a second mother to Will sometimes,” you bit into your toast.
Jonathan fully turned around now and he stopped at the sight of you all dressed up. Only on special occasions do you get fully ready, taking a while to pamper yourself pretty. He set the other two plates on the table then grabbed a tight ringlet, and pulled it down.
“Hey, I worked hard on these,” swatting his hand away.
“You know Halloween is tonight. You don’t have to be dressed up right now.”
“Okay, so Will wants to dress up for school, but I can’t. That’s misogynistic of you, Jonathan.” His mouth gaped open, “what-” You threw a hand into his chest, giggles spilling past your lips, “I’m kidding dude. I just felt like wearing it for school today, plus it’s just a dress, nothing like Will’s.”
He then backed off, knowing it’s Halloween, if you wanted to be dressed up for school you can do so for your pleasure.
Joyce and Will finally joined the both of you in the kitchen. All four of you are chatting, about school, about tonight and the rules, reminding Joyce that you’re going to Robin’s for the night. When everyone was done eating you helped Jonathan wash and dry the dishes while Will got the rest of his belongings together, the both of you were gonna take pictures before leaving.
“I was wondering if you wanted to go to Tina’s party tonight?”
Jonathan turned his head at your question, “What? Why? You decide to go?” He chuckled at the idea.
When you didn’t counter back right away he looked back at you, a small frown on his face, “(Y/n), come on. Do you really want to go to a party filled with drunk teenagers? Teenagers, who are mostly people that don’t like us?” “I know, but it would be nice to experience it just once. Plus Robin’s going with me, and we’ll only stay an hour at most. Come on, if you drive us, we can get drunk, and you can be the dd because you’re a wet blanket,” you threw a gentle elbow to his ribs.
He didn’t respond, just went back to washing the dishes and handing them to you for drying off, “At least- at least just think about it. Please?”
With a tiny turning of his head, he gave a nod.
And that was the end of the conversation.
…
“No way.”
You turned away from the inside of your locker and met the wide-eyed face of Robin. You look down at yourself then back up to her face, “what?” “Uh, two things. One, you look very pretty, and two, why are you wearing it at school?”
“My little brother wore his to school, I just felt like doing it as well. What’s wrong anyway, it's just a dress!”
“Yeah, but you’re a junior in high school, it’s a little different than a- what grade is Will in?” “Eighth grade,” “Eighth grade compared to Junior year, kinda different.”
You just rolled your eyes and closed your locker. The two of you walk down the crowded halls, elbows and warm bodies bumping into each other. Couples being gross, being way too intimate, or making out against lockers, it was eight-thirty in the morning.
“Can’t they keep it in their pants at least till lunch, actually no, because I’ll probably throw up my food,” Robin commented.
A breathy laugh left your lips. You surveyed the halls, your eyes roaming from one person to another, the feeling of their eyes watching your passing figure kept you on alert. You knew that today you looked completely different compared to your usual school or everyday attire, but the feeling of them watching you. The eyes trailing down your figure, the giggles of girls, and murmurs. Maybe dressing up for school was a bad idea.
“Robin,” “(Y/n).” “Be honest, are people staring at me?”
Robin did a quick check around the crowded halls and took in the boys with their mouths agape, the girls chewing their gum obnoxiously, their very pointed stares on you.
“Ah, no I don’t think so.”
“Robin,”
“No yeah, people are staring at you.”
You just groaned. Now, you’re regretting this decision.
“I think it’s because these dudes are shocked they are just now seeing how beautiful you are, and the girls are jealous. Hell, I would one hundred percent ask you on a date if I didn’t already know about your little crush,” Robin tried to make you feel better.
“And I one hundred percent would date you if you asked.”
…
“Well, it looks like someone is excited for tonight.”
The abrupt male voice broke through the quiet conversation between you and Robin on the bleachers. The two of you watched as the metalhead trudged up the metal steps, the sound of his feet hitting each step reverberating in the air. In a joking manner, Eddie gave a bow, he was acting like a court jester and you were the sitting princess.
“My Lady.” “Oh, shut up,” lightly pushed his shoulder.
He sat on the bench below you and Robin, his lunchbox, which you knew was filled with weed, he placed it beside him the metal vibrating. Robin ate a sandwich and shared her chips with you as you worked through your homework. Bob let you take the day off, so now until the trick-or-treating, you are making sure your assignments are finished.
“Going to Tina’s Halloween bash?” Robin asked Eddie.
He sighed, “yes and no, it’s kinda a work event. If you look at it that way. Drunk kids, love to get high.”
“Gonna get high, Byers?”
You shot your head up from the work and flushed at the words falling from Eddie’s mouth, the playful wiggle to his brows.
“Oh, you smoke (Y/n)?” Robin turned to you.
“Ah, it was for a little- nightmares and such. Not anymore though.”
You shot Eddie with a pointed look trying to convey your thoughts, but even if he saw the glare, he chose to ignore it and met Robin with a playful smile dancing devilishly across his face.
“Oh, Byers and I would hang out in my van for hours and smoke. Really good times, and then one day, when we were both high, she ended up-”
“Hitting! I accidentally hit Eddie while high, really embarrassing thing,” you fibbed.
Robin slowed in her chewing, just watching the way you and Eddie were interacting with each other at the moment. The two of you have a staring contest, you with your bold eyes watching Eddie who looked to be holding back a laugh, he thought this whole exchange was hilarious and it was pissing you off a bit. Switching tactics of trying, and I mean trying to use intimidation, you decide to use sympathy instead. Using the puppy eyes, ones that your family says can work on anyone.
With a pout on your lips, a sight furrow of brows, and your eyes changing looks, “Yeah- yeah a good smack to my cheek. Her punches are really strong,” Eddie lied.
“Okay,” Robin said one word slowly.
“So, you're dressing up tonight, Munson?”
…
With the bell signaling the final class for the day, everyone rushed from their classes and flooded the halls. Walking beside Eddie as he walked you towards your locker, the both of you engaged in conversation, neither of you noticed the two people just three lockers away. With a bump to your hip and a gentle push to his shoulder the both of you split, Eddie giving another bow before departing through the double doors down the corridor.
“You two sure are close.” Turning to the voice, Nancy was putting things in her locker while Steve leaned against one, his arms crossed over his chest and feet crossed at the ankle. You looked from them to the doors Eddie walked through, a quick tilt of your head, “Ah, yeah. Got closer over the summer.”
You walked to your locker and threw in everything that you didn’t need for the day, stuffing your books and homework you finished into the cramped space, “You two going to Tina’s tonight?”
“Oh, yeah. Doing Risky Business. What do you think (Y/n), am I better looking than Cruise?”
Turning your attention away from your books and onto Steve, his winning smile on display just waiting for your answer to his question, ‘dangerous territory’ you thought.
“Oh, now you see, there is a pretty obvious answer to your question.”
“So you think I’m better looking?” a cocky smile.
You slammed your locker shut, a teasing smile, “oh, now, I thought you were smarter than that Steve. It’s so obviously Cruise, sorry Harrington.”
You left the two of them heading for Jonathan, “see you two at Tina’s!” you yelled just before exiting the school for the day.
…
“So you hit “T” to zoom in, and “W” zooms back out. See? Easy-peasy.”
Bob was teaching Jonathan how to work the new camcorders, Joyce wanted to have Will’s night out on tape since she wasn’t joining this year. She and Bob were staying at the house to give out candy and watch some movies, it was cute.
“Just make sure to turn off the power to save energy there. You can always ask (Y/n) for help, she knows her way around one of these, don’t ya?”
“All thanks to you, boss,” the two of you shared a smile.
Jonathan walked over to Will and Joyce, “Are you ready, bud?”
“Yeah.”
“Just try and keep an eye on him.” “We will mom, it’s gonna be fine,” you reasoned to her.
Will had a beaming smile on his face, ready to go out with his friends for the night and collect candy that will give him tummy aches for days after. Smiling at your fond memories of you and Jonathan trick-or-treating. One year when Will was still small the three of you did Scooby Doo, you as Daphne, Jonathan as Shaggy, and little Will as baby Scooby. And then one Halloween about four years ago, you tried doing a look from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, not as iconic as Audrey Hepburn, but still good.
The three of you ushered out the door and towards Jonathan’s car.
“Be safe,” Joyce yelled out.
“I hope it doesn’t suck!” Bob called out imitating Dracula, poorly you might add.
The boys giggled a bit at the joke, you flicked at both their ears for laughing at Bob.
The car was silent for a few minutes then Jonathan decided to speak up, “I just don’t get what she sees in him.”
“What?” Will asked in the passenger seat.
“Bob.”
“Hey, Bob is a great man. You just find him too dorky,” you quoted the one word.
He scoffed, “no I don’t.”
“At least he doesn’t treat me different,” Will murmured.
You and Jonathan got quiet for a moment. If you were to list the people who are very doting on Will after the Upside Down it would be Joyce, You, and Jonathan, then the party. Bob didn’t know about what happened to Will, all of you decided to not mention anything to him, also you all signed NDAs.
“I mean, I can’t even go trick-or-treating by myself. It’s lame.” “Hey, going with a group of people is always more fun than by yourself, you threw out.
“You think I’m lame? You think (Y/n)’s lame?” “I’m not lame, just fyi.”
Will sighed, “no, but it’s not like Nancy’s coming to watch over Mike, you know?”
You chewed on your bottom lip, looking from Will who was watching the trees whiz past the speeding car, then to Jonathan’s eyes in the rearview mirror. All three of you just released quiet sighs and that was the end of the conversation for the rest of the ride to the Wheeler’s.
…
The three boys were walking up the grass lawn just as Jonathan pulled up to the curb. Jonathan honked the horn in greeting. Placing the car into park, Jonathan turned to Will as he grabbed the ghost pack getting ready to leave.
“Hey, listen,”
“Yeah?”
“If I let you go on your own, you promise to stay in the neighborhood?”
The spark was back in Will’s eyes, “Yeah! Yeah, yeah, totally.”
“And be back at Mike’s by nine,” you added from the back.
“Nine-thirty?”
You and Jonathan looked at each other for a moment, “nine,” Jonathan stated firmly.
“Yeah.” “Deal?” “Yeah, deal.”
“All right, go have fun, bud,” Jonathan added.
You grabbed the camcorder and pushed it up front, “hey, Will. Don’t let any of the idiots use this, all right? I don’t want to worry about Bob pulling it from my paycheck.”
“Okay,” he said with a chuckle.
“I hope it doesn't suck,” Jonathan imitates Bob.
You gave a swift smack to his shoulder, “What the hell?”
“Idiot,” you mumbled.
The two of you waved off Will as he rushed over to the three boys, the four of them shouting and smiling with joy. They were messing around with their pillowcases for a moment, then they headed off into the neighborhood, on a mission for some cavity-inducing candy. Weariness brewed in the pit of your stomach, worried something might happen to Will while you and Jonathan weren’t present, but you both know he needed this.
“Awesome,” Jonathan whispered while looking at his crumpled orange paper.
Smiling tugging at your face, the weariness fading to the back of your mind for the moment, “so, Tina’s?”
He turned his head at your voice, a grimace on his face, “Robin first?” “Step on it, chauffeur! We have a party to attend!”
He sighed, then put the car into gear.
…
“Wow” “I regret this” “What the hell is Bruce Stevens wearing?”
Girls On Film by Durn Durn was blasting through the many speakers at Tina’s house, it almost looked like the building was bouncing and bumping with the beat of the song. Teens dressed in different costumes ranging from a current pop culture interest to just a simple shirt with a dumb character face mask. Everyone had red solo cups in hand, some cigarettes, and a few couples making out against cars or on the lawn. There were screams and chants from the backyard, people chanting numbers then bursting into calls of someone's name. And then, finally, Bruce Stevens came rushing out the front door and threw up onto the lawn, classy.
It was a lot to take in within the first five minutes of arrival.
You and Robin linked arms, you were still dressed as Wendy, and it looked like Robin threw together a last-minute costume, “I’m one of the outsiders!” she declared. Jonathan trailed behind the both of you, he was like a weak bodyguard.
Walking through the front door, you were instantly hit with the smell of smoke and spilled beer. The air in the crowded house was warm, it was close to feeling like summer all over again just from the living room. The bass of the music makes the floor thump in time with the beat. People grinding against the other, both intentional and unintentional, everyone too drunk to care about a little personal space.
You and Robin pushed your way through the people crowding the door, Jonathan just behind you both. Looking behind to make sure Jonathan was staying close when something else caught you by surprise.
“Holy shit!” “What!” Robin screeched.
You turned her around to look at the scene before you, Jonathan was talking with a cute girl in a KISS costume. He must have said something funny ‘cause the girl was chuckling at whatever the remark was, then they both shook hands in a greeting.
Pleasantly surprised by these events, you pulled Robin with you towards the kitchen. You were in search of a hard drink to get you drunk fast. Having found your destination, you grabbed solo cups for the two of you and looked into the clear punch bowl that had a fog brewing atop the red liquid. Dipping the cups in, you passed Robin a cup and you clicked in cheers.
“What the fuck is this stuff!” you downed the liquid like water.
“This is going to be a dangerous night,” Robin commented.
You giggled at the comment and went back in for seconds, then thirds, and fourths. Whatever amount you were on, you finally went to the dance floor when a song caught your full drunken-dazed attention, “Robin!” and you pulled her behind you to the crowded floor.
Not being even an ounce sober you were just moving your body around in a way that just felt freeing and comforting, you even pulled Robin into whatever dance you were doing, your bodies intertwined.
“Byers!” a voice shouted over the noise.
You twirled your body, colliding into the hard chest of someone, their hands sitting just below where your bra band sat. You were a giggling mess, something was funny that only you saw or thought of, and your drink was long forgotten somewhere in the house, someone might have even taken it.
Your hands traveled from the stranger's chest and up to their neck then finally rested on their cheeks, you squeezed the mushy muscle. Your vision was blurring, one body could have been three bodies. You giggled again, the images were funny to your mind.
“Hey- hey handsome, or gor-gouse, whoever, wanna- wanna kiss?” your words were slurring together from the alcohol and time it settled in your body.
Leaning your face forward, waiting for lips to make contact with yours. Instead, a warm feeling heated your cheeks, your face being pushed back. Blinking your heavy lids, you were just able to make out the person before you, only because he was always in your dreams.
“St- Stevie?”
A clicking noise sounded off, “Sorry babe,” yeah, your vision was fucked.
Eddie was holding your face, “Where’s Ro- Robin?”
“She went to the bathroom, and found me before she hurried off.”
“Wh- where’s Jonathan?”
“Now that, I don’t have the answer.”
“Why don’t we get you some water, huh?” You pouted but complied when Eddie slipped a hand into yours. Pushing and stumbling through the crowd, you were allowed a moment of free space in the kitchen. You leaned a hip into the counter while Eddie grabbed a cup and filled it to the brim, “chug it, Byers,” Eddie tilted the cup to your lips. Chugging the water you felt like a starved man on an island, your hands limply grasped for the cup.
Eddie grabbed the cup back and filled it again, you wiped the droplets off your face. Just as you grabbed for the cup you heard everyone around you ‘ooooo’, you turned to look for the scene to cause such a reaction. Standing before you, actually standing in front of you, Nancy and Steve stood across from each other, and all the party-goers stood still. Nancy had a giant red stain splashed across the front of her white shirt, and Steve leaned against the counter, he ran a hand through his hair in a stressed manner.
“What the hell?” Nancy slurred.
Nancy hurried off into the crowd and Steve followed a second behind, “Nance.”
Eddie blocked your view of the party, the now refilled solo cup pushing against your lips. Grasping for the cup you chugged the water down again, almost choking on the speed you were drinking, “Jesus, you don’t have to chug it.”
“Another!” you screeched.
Eddie went to refill the cup for the third time, and Robin reappeared from nowhere, “You two see the scene between Wheeler and Harrington?”
“I think I wanna go home now, or yours Robin. I just- I think I should leave. I’m too- I’m too dru-nk,” words still slurring together.
“Okay, you can come to mine, my mom’s working a late shift. So I’ll go look for Jonathan and tell him, stay with Eddie,” and she hurried off.
Rubbing your hands over your face, you tried to will yourself sober, at least the water was helping just a bit. You were gonna have the worst hangover tomorrow morning, and god the throwing up, you regret this.
“I regret getting drunk,” you said aloud to Eddie.
Eddie chuckled and pushed the solo back into your hands, “drink, slowly.”
Just as you finished your third cup of water and handed the cup to Eddie you caught movement. Looking over at the crowd, everyone getting drunk and stoned, everyone forgetting the scene Nancy and Steve had only minutes ago. You saw Steve rushing through the crowd, you couldn’t tell from the distance between you and him, but he looked stressed and as if he wanted away from this party before he collapsed or something terrible happened in front of everyone. Your feet moved before your mind caught up to your actions and just before you reached the crowded living room, an arm gripped your bicep and pulled you back.
“You’re not disappearing on me, Byers.”
“But, Steve…” “I know babe, but you’re drunk and I don’t want Jonathan to bite my head off for losing you.” You giggled at that, forgetting what you were doing just a second ago, “Jonathan won’t hurt you, I’m the one with the brawns, remember? I smacked you!” a string of giggles followed.
Just then Robin came back, an arm went around your waist and she tugged one of your arms over her shoulder, “We’re gonna meet Jonathan at his car, and Nancy is coming as well.”
“Huh?” She just shook her head, “See you later Munson.” “Take care of our friend, Buckley, have a bucket ready!” …
The room was too bright, the air felt too thick, and the bedsheets rubbed against your skin in a way that felt like sandpaper. Everything felt wrong and too much at the moment, just even breathing felt wrong to your body. Curling up deep into yourself, just wanting to shut everything out and not exist for the moment, just a small relief of bliss from your hangover and the ache of your skull and body, but it didn’t last long. A door slammed open and then closed accompanied by a too-loud voice.
“(Y/n)! Wakey wakey!”
You just lifted a hand limply into the air trying to make a signal to Robin for her to quiet down.
“Get up! We have to get to school!” “Who’s going to school after last night?” your throat felt dry like a desert.
“Everyone, ‘cause if no one showed up it would be an early senior ditch day.”
“Ugh, I don’t even think I brought my bag with me, and I don’t have extra clothes.”
“Well first sit up and drink this water,” the thunk of the cup sitting on Robin’s nightstand rang like a gong going off in your ears.
“I already called Jonathan to make sure he grabs your bag, and I have some old clothes you could try. But first, drink this water and take some Advil, and take a quick shower to wash your makeup off. I’ll leave some clothes by the bathroom door for you,” and she left you, moving quietly you might add.
…
“I think my brain is gonna explode inside my skull any minute now.”
“So dramatic.”
You and Eddie hung out by the forest lining the school grounds, both of you choosing to ditch second period. You were seated on the bench hidden deep in the trees, the one where Eddie does all his business during school hours. He was lighting a cigarette between his lips, the smell of the tobacco made you crinkle your nose, but the urge to have a blunt hit you, “Can I have a hit?” A brow raised at your question, “That hungover?” “Oh yeah. Don’t know what the hell they put in that devil punch,” your fingers pinching for the death stick.
Your lungs when inhaling the nicotine burned, but you welcomed it with pleasure and pain. It filled you with some type of relief from your headache. Your shoulders shagged from their tense posture, you held the smoke for a few seconds then with your lips forming a perfect ‘o’ shape, smoke rings were pushed out. Taking one more hit you then passed it back to Eddie.
“So you remember anything from last night,” smoke passed from his lips.
Your eye widened, “not really, did I do something stupid?”
“You thought I was Harrington again,” he gave a breathy laugh.
“What the hell is wrong with me,” you ran your hands over your face in embarrassment.
“Your desire for Harrington must be really strong if you keep mistaking me for him, and you almost went after him when he rushed out the house. If you don’t watch yourself, you’re gonna get heartbroken like glass, the perfect hit and it crumbles.”
“Wow, so poetic of you, Shakespeare.”
Silence passed between your bodies, the rusting of fallen autumn leaves dropping from stems, the trees singing their song that you weren’t able to understand. Everything felt like a frozen moment in time, the two of you just enjoying the other’s company along with the woods shielding the world away from the two of you. Too bad it couldn’t last for longer than a moment.
“I’m just trying to look out for you, Byers. I care about you, I’ve seen you at what I assume is your lowest, the nightmares and everything. I’ve seen you slowly get better, getting a grip back on yourself. I don’t want all of that to just be thrown out the window just because of douchebag Harrington.”
“He’s not a douchebag…” Eddie threw a look your way, “...anymore. He’s growing out of that shell of himself. I swear.”
“Whatever you say, but just know, Robin and I will be here for you if you need mending done.”
The bell rang signaling the end of second period and moving into third. You gathered your belongings and headed back towards the stone building, you turned back to Eddie seeing that he didn’t join you.
“You coming?” “Nah, gonna stay out here a little longer.” “You know, if you keep skipping classes, you’re gonna be held back again!”
He just chuckled at your comment. Leaving him and the woods behind, the small moment of quiet just to walk back into the loud halls of teens you could care less about, “hey, Byers!” You turned to Eddie, “You know I’m here right? And Robin? We’re here for you if you can’t go to your family.”
Stilling for a moment, but then you nodded at him and walked back to the school. As you were taking your time walking to class, you watched the P.E. group running on the track outside and you could faintly hear the squeaking and shouting from within the gym. Just as you were about to pass the gym to enter the school, voices outside stopped you in your tracks.
“Apparently, uh… we killed Barb and I don’t care ‘cause I’m bullshit… and our whole…our whole relationship is bullshit, and… I mean, pretty much everything is just bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. Oh, yeah, also, you don’t love me.”
Your eyes widened from the realization of who was talking and what the conversation was about.
Steve and Nancy were talking about whatever happened last night. You knew this was a conversation meant only for the two of them, but you were scared to take even a single step away, worried they might hear you. So you tried to stay like a statue, even holding your breath worried they might have bat hearing all of a sudden. You will yourself think of something else, zone out, anything to avoid this conversation. Watching the kids running the track wasn’t helping as you could still hear them.
“Well, then tell me.”
“Tell you what?”
“You love me.” Your heart broke. The words sounded broken, sharp jagged pieces being spit from Steve’s mouth. You could tell how much Steve cared about Nancy when it was just the two of you and even more when the both of them were together, but sometimes Nancy looked like she wanted to be anywhere other than the present. Unintentionally hearing that Nancy thought their relationship was bullshit and her thinking Steve was bullshit, made a bit of anger rise within you, but this was something not meant for your personal feelings.
This was something between Nancy and Steve, something that they’ve been hiding, well, something that Nancy’s been hiding from Steve. She is hiding her true feelings about things, not happy with the way Steve’s handling situations compared to herself. Sadly that tiny bit of anger was pointed directly at Nancy and you hated yourself for it.
The abrupt noise of the gym doors banging open pulled you from your stupor. Bruce Stevens rushed out and looked down the alley at the bickering couple, “Harrington!” “Dude, we need you, man. That douchebag’s killing us. Let’s go!” “All right!” “Come on!”
And just before Bruce ran back inside he met your standing figure and flicked his head at you, “Byers! You were so hot last night!”
That was your cue to rush inside. With a quiet “thanks” to Bruce, you speed your way from the alley and into the empty halls, fourth period was long forgotten.
…
Wanting just to rush to work that day, wanting to ignore your hangover, wanting to forget the conversation between Nancy and Steve, you forgot that Jonathan said he had to leave early. So when you walked to the parking lot and didn’t see his car sitting with the engine running, your shoulders slumped and an empty exhale was released. Your bike wasn’t at school, you barely bike anywhere anymore with Joyce being worried.
You knew there was a pay phone near the front of the school, so turning back in that direction you managed to run into an oncoming body. The force in which you slammed yourself into their chest threw you off your feet and you would have landed on your ass if the person didn’t wrap their arms around your waist. Your hands reach out for their biceps to add extra support for yourself.
“In a rush, Byers?”
You thought for a moment it was Eddie, your mind still clouded with alcohol would continue to mix the two males up for some reason, but when you paid attention to the person it was him.
“Ah, sorry. I- Jonathan’s not here, so I was gonna call my mom. I don’t have a ride to work.”
His arms slipped from your waist, “I could take you if you want.”
“Oh, uh, you don’t have to. Maybe I could ask Robin or Eddie.”
“Seriously it’s no problem, Byers,” and he headed off in the direction of his BMW.
You hesitated, not sure if he was gonna bring up the conversation and your eavesdropping, but if he did you’ll just lie, just say you didn’t hear anything. Yeah, you can lie, it’s not even a bad lie, just a light fib. You didn’t even want to be involved with their relationship in any way, for normal reasons and selfish ones. So, with slow and hesitant steps, you walked to the passenger side and slid into the leather seat.
“Radio Shack, right?”
“Uh, yeah, on Main Street.”
With his answer, he started the car and headed off the school property. After just a few minutes you spoke, which might have been a bad idea, “so where’s Nancy? Don’t you usually drive her home?”
Why did your stupid mind have to bring up Nancy when you heard their conversation, but at least this could throw Steve off from thinking you did hear the dispute. You could feel the air thicken with tension from the question and the way Steve hesitated in his answer added more. His shoulders tense, the grip on the wheel tightening, and his jaw clenched.
“Uh, she- uh, she had to stay after school for a little. Told me she’ll have her mom get her.”
A lie, but you didn’t say anything about it, just nodded your head.
The suffocating silence came back. The two of you can make conversation both easily and also very difficult, today it looked to be difficult.
“So…you like working at Radio Shack?” Steve was trying to make small talk.
“Yeah. Bob’s a great boss, very kind and considerate with teaching me new things. It was a little weird at first, not used to that attitude from an older male figure. Only seen yelling and fighting, but I don’t have to stay on guard when I’m around Bob, it’s nice.”
Turning your head to Steve, you could see a tiny smile appearing, “And how do you feel about your boss dating your mom?”
A giggle slipped out, “it was a little weird at first, I admit. But after seeing how happy he made her, I got used to it quickly. Jonathan and Will, on the other hand, they’re being boys about it. Will seems more forgiving of Bob though which is great.”
“Well…I’m glad that you’re happy about this. I like seeing you happy about stuff, seeing people you care about feeling sad hurts in a way you can’t fix.”
Your breath got caught in your throat for a moment causing you to let out an abrupt cough. With your hand laying over your heart you could feel the fast thumping of your heart against your lungs. With your bottom lip pulled between your teeth, you took a quick look over at Steve.
He looked relaxed again while driving. His hands loosened on their grip and one hand rested under his jaw, the tiny smile still on his lips, his eyes holding just a bit of warmth compared to the coldness harboring just a few moments ago at the mention of Nancy. But with that warmth, you could tell that an underlying sadness rested behind his eyes, something that nested within his heart. And you wished you could fix it, just like he said earlier, it hurts seeing people you care about sad and you can’t do anything about it. But you knew that all that hurt came from Nancy and Steve's conversation earlier today, and that’s something only the two of them could work out.
“You see Bruce threw up yesterday at Tina’s? That whole party was crazy. And I regret drinking way too much of that punch.”
“Pure fuel,” Steve mumbled. “What?” you weren’t sure if you heard him correctly.
“Uh, Bruce said it was ‘pure fuel’ whatever that means.” “Basically poison.” “Yep, pretty much,” he sighed.
Just as you opened your mouth to say something the store sign came into view and Steve pulled up next to Bob’s car. Deflating into the seat, you just grabbed your belongings and moved for the door, “hey.” Stopping in your actions you turned to Steve, “if you need a ride home again, you can call me. I don’t have any plans for the night anyway.”
“If you tell me that, don’t be surprised when I’m constantly calling your house just for a ride.” He chuckled, “I’ll happily be your chauffeur if it gets me away from the quiet.”
The teasing tone in your voice dropped, “and if you ever want to hang out sometime outside of school, you know where I live and work,” the tone returned for a moment.
The two of you just stared at each other, taking in this blissful moment inside Steve’s car. The outside world was completely forgotten by you, your work was put on the back burner of your mind where you just took in Steve. Trying to memorize him at this moment, something you always do when it’s just the two of you in a small pocket of peace.
“You should,” his voice broke the quiet spell, “probably head inside. Don’t want to be late.”
With one final look at Steve, you left the car and headed into the store.
…
“So, how was the party?” “Uh, pretty great,” you lied.
You couldn’t remember much from last night, everything just blurred together making it hard to differentiate the things you did and witness there. You didn’t want to tell Bob that you got practically shit-faced, you didn’t want him to judge you and he would probably end up telling Joyce, and you can’t have that either. I mean, it seemed great.
“Any trick-or-treaters?” “Nope, a quiet night.” “Yeah, no one really goes to our house since it’s away from the neighborhoods.”
Bob was about to say something when the phone started to ring. You being behind the counter, you brought the receiver to your ear, “Radio Shack, this is (Y/n). How can I help you?” “(Y/n), honey.” “Mom? Why are you calling?”
“Uh, is Bob there?” You looked around the story. He wasn’t in the front and then you turned to look in the back and couldn’t find him, “uh, I can’t find him at the moment. Maybe I could help?”
“Okay, well um… I’m trying to watch the tape from last night on Bob’s video thingy, and the tape, it’s…it’s tiny. It’s like it’s shrunk.”
You rubbed a hand against your temple as you tried to remember what Bob taught you, “I believe it’s ‘cause they’re not the same. It’s a VHS-C, not a VHS. You gotta find the- oh what was it…you gotta find the RF-P1U with coaxial cable so you can connect the video ins and outs.”
“Honey, what does any of that mean and how do you remember all that?”
You huffed, “Uh, basically you gotta put a bunch of wires into the back of the TV, and I honestly don’t know.”
She giggled at the last part, “Okay, just give me a few minutes,” and then the line went quiet.
After about three minutes her voice returned to the phone, “Okay I hooked a punch of cords into the back.”
“You sure, are they-”
“No, yeah, I did the coaxial things in the back, so I…this one just goes into the camera itself?” “If it’s an input that fits the camera, yeah, exactly.”
“It’s blue,” “Mom, I can’t remember the cords-”
“No, the TV is blue, I think it’s working.”
“Okay, well, see-” and she hung up before you could say a proper goodbye.
You pulled the phone back for a moment, “Rude,” you stated before placing it back onto the base.
A sudden feeling came over you as if you had just been splashed by a bucket of ice-cold water.
“I've got a bad feeling,” you mumbled to yourself.

an: part two of this best friends to lovers story, I hope you guys enjoy these smaller chapters instead of a big story with a lot of cuts. we have some jealous steve because that's always fun and some revelations. let me know what you think!
part 1
✰✰✰✰✰✰
“Stevie!”
Steve’s head whips to the right at the sound of your voice. Warm up had just ended and his teammates were on a water break after finishing all the drills he planned for today. A smile appears on his face as he lifts his hand up in greeting, putting his water bottle down and walking towards you. You look devastatingly pretty, with your hair already up and away from your face for your practice in an hour. Your backpack and duffel bag are slung over your shoulders while you hold your coat and a hoodie in the crook of your arm.
Dark blue long-sleeved leotard and black sweatpants are your outfit for the day –Steve knows you’ll wear the baby blue chiffon skirt today. He might even linger for the beginning of your practice just to see how pretty the colour looks on you. Madame Laverne will try to kick him out, but Steve can be pretty convincing.
“Hey babe, how did your test go?” Steve asks, leaning close to kiss your forehead in lieu of a greeting, he’s too sweaty to hug you but god knows he’ll take any excuse to be close to you.
“Aced it, I’m sure.” You smile brightly enough to knock the wind out of him, self satisfaction clear in your face. “I have Algebra tomorrow and I’m done. Mind if I hang out here?”
Steve rolls his eyes fondly; you always ask, and he always says yes. When has he ever said no to you? “When have I ever said no to you?”
You pretend to think just to tease him before laughing to yourself. “Thanks Stevie, I won’t bother you I promise.”
“You’re not a bother, come on let me help you with that.” Steve takes your bags and sets them on the bleachers you always occupy when you watch basketball practice. “I’ll walk you to class after, okay?” Fuck, he’s whipped.
“Okay.” You smile, that soft smile of yours and sit down, lighting up his body from the inside. “Good luck!”
I’ll need it. Steve thinks on the way back to his teammates. With you sitting so pretty over there he’s bound to be distracted, and he can’t have that.
“I see your girl’s come to see you practice.” Jacob Nully teases as soon as he’s back, and Steve rolls his eyes. “Honestly Harrington when are you going to ask her out?”
“We’re just friends.” Steve says shaking his head –Nully’s always rubbing salt in the wound.
“Please, you know how depressing it is to watch you pine after her for years?” Jacob fake gags. “It’s the only reason why no one’s asked her out you know. We know she’s your girl.”
“She’s n–” Steve begins to say only to be cut off.
“Speak for yourself.” Brad Connors, another teammate speaks out. “If Harrington doesn’t ask her, I might.”
“Shut it Connors.” Steve snaps, clenching his fists instantly like his body’s determined to fight for you.
Brad’s following laugh echoes around the gymnasium. “See, maybe jealousy will get him to ask her out. Better hurry though, Captain.”
With a shove to Steve’s shoulder Connors moves to center court and waves at you. You seem confused for a moment before you wave back, hesitantly. Fucking Connors. Steve would ask you out, he wants nothing more than to ask you out but he’s not sure if you feel that way about him too. You are best friends; you’re the most wonderful person Steve’s met, his best girl. What would happen if he asked you out and you reject him, where would that leave your friendship?
Steve’s mind can’t think of anything else even as he plays and shouts at his teammates. The same question circling his mind in a loop, his brain thinking really hard about your feelings. The two of you are attached at the hip, you do everything together and Steve knows the two of you are happiest when you do. There’s also the fact that you don’t date anyone, ever since you met Steve, despite there being more than a few attempts from people you go to university with. It always makes Steve’s blood boil, how they approach you and try to give the same compliment he gives all the time. It might be his fault though, for selfishly sending deadly looks their way the minute the show interest. But no, at the end of the day it’s your decision and you always say no to any of the guys that try to ask you out.
Then there’s those soft looks Steve’s always in the receiving end of, the way your eyebrows relax and smile does that thing that makes his heart skip. He knows you don’t look at anybody else like that and selfishly he begins to wonder if maybe his feelings have been reciprocated all along.
Your cheer can be heard around the gym when Steve scores a three pointer, which makes him look your way. It turns out, the hoodie you carried earlier and are now wearing is his. He’d been looking for it for a week and all this time you’ve had it. For anyone not playing, the bleachers can get cold during winter, and of course you had to shrug it on while he plays. Because you being there isn’t a distraction enough. No, you have to wear his clothes and look good in it; the oversized fit makes you look cozy and frankly adorable, and Steve knows Harrington is displayed across your back. It makes his heart jump to his throat. Steve smiles though, winking as a thank you for your ever present support. Your returning smile softens even more while your eyes flicker with more affection than usual, and Steve might be wrong after all. What if you feel the same way he does?
He's everything you want. The ache within your chest worsens every time you look at him because Steve during practice is lethally hot. If he’s handsomeness and charm outside the court, in it he’s passion, strength and hotness all in one. You can’t focus on Algebra, and selfishly knew so when you decided to visit Steve today. You can’t go away though, you’ve never been able to, so you brave the cold gym with his hoodie and watch the team play. Anything to see him wear those dark grey shorts that make you feel things you probably shouldn’t.
Steve’s team for the day wins thanks to his last three-pointer, a beautiful finish for the practice. You can’t help but cheer, and it’s worth it to see the way he smiles and winks at you. Selfishly you want him for yourself, then you’d be free to run towards him and kiss him to show him just how proud of him you are. How can you not be when you’ve seen how much he’s improved since he decided to join the team. His athleticism and discipline helping the team so much he was voted captain last term. If you could confess all of this to him in a kiss and show everyone he’s yours, you would. You don’t though, and only smile feeling your guard fall in a moment, affection clear as day for anyone to see. It only last a second before you remember to shake yourself out of your daze.
Having given up on your test for the day, you snuggle into Steve’s hoodie and watch the end of the practice. Enjoying the way Steve pushes his hair back or pulls the hem of his t-shirt towards his face. Your insides flip and you look away when you feel your body burn, but you’re spared any more torment when within seconds the coaches dismiss the team.
“You didn’t study,” Steve says as he approaches you, a towel around his neck and bag over his right shoulder. His eyes are a soft thing with more warmth than usual; different but you don’t know what.
“It was a fun game.” You shrug, putting your book inside your bag and closing it. “I’ll be fine. I can study some more after class.”
That makes Steve’s gaze move towards his watch and furrow his brows. “Let me change and I’ll walk you, okay?”
You smile and shake your head, you love him more than you can comprehend sometimes. “Stevie you don’t have to.”
Steve’s hand moves towards your face, holding your cheek briefly. “I want to.” He murmurs, thumb caressing the apple of your cheek before his touch disappears. “Five minutes. I’ll be right back.”
You can do nothing else but nod, face burning where the ghost of his touch still lingers. Steve is different, not in a bad way but different enough from an hour ago that you can definitely notice. His eyes kept gazing into yours like he wanted to figure something out and tell you something at the same time. There’s there’s the way he’d lingered like he didn’t really want to part from you. There’s no more time time wonder what’s going on because true to his word Steve is back five minutes later, in his burgundy sweater, black coat and backback thrown over his shoulder.
“Come on babe, you’ll be late to class.” He smiles, taking your duffel bag before throwing his arm around your shoulder.
The smell of soap and a hint of cologne floods your system with warmth and you can’t help leaning closer to Steve, your temple resting against his jaw as you walk. “Thanks Stevie.” You murmur, shivering lightly when the weather outside bites at your skin. “For always walking me to class.”
“You know I love to do it.” Steve’s smile is clear as day in his tone, and its followed by a kiss to your temple. “You think Madame Laverne will let me watch you warm up today?”
His question makes you laugh and shake your head. “You know how she is, I think you can imagine the answer to that.”
“But if I hide behind the curtains…” Steve proposes, seeking only to make you laugh again and succeeding.
“I fear for your well-being if you try to pull that off, Stevie.” You look up at him and smile, having reached the ballet studio. “Maybe when we begin practicing at the theatre, you can sneak in.”
“Oh I just might.” His smile is pure mischief as he whispers, face closer to you than before. Beautiful brown eyes meet yours and linger longer than ever before. Not that you mind. Not that you’ve ever minded. You would gaze into his eyes any chance you got if it wouldn’t make things weird between you. This is the first time Steve’s done it, though, and you wonder briefly if maybe he’s doing it for the same reason you do.
Your thoughts are interrupted however, by a honk on the other end of the street. The two of you jump apart and smile bashfully. What’s happening? Could your wishes be coming true at long last?
“I’ll be here when you’re done.” Steve hands you your duffel bag and smiles before kissing your cheek just like he did the other day. “Good luck.”
“Thank you, Stevie.” You smile softly and hug him goodbye. “See you later.”
The two of you linger a moment longer on the sidewalk before heading in different directions. Steve towards the library, and you inside the studio. Hearts pounding, in fear, in love, in determination. What if? You wonder all throughout practice, even as your feet hurt and more blisters appear. What if we both feel the same way?

Aria and Nancy walked upstairs towards Nancy’s room, with Steve and Robin following close behind. Steve was a little distraught at the fact that he didn’t have his own fake profile, telling the girls that he could help them out instead of being a babysitter.
“Riya, you're outta your mind if you think I'm babysitting again.” Steve told her, arms out in front of him. Nancy started to shift through her closet to pick out some outfits to wear for their meeting, while Aria turned around to face Steve.
“First, they're not babies anymore.” Aria responded, a little frustrated on why he wasn’t understanding. “And Max is in real danger, so she needs people around her.”
“I know. But why does it always have to be me?”
“Oh my God, you have a Tom Cruise poster.” Robin said, walking towards the poster. “You have a Tom Cruise poster.”
“That's old.” Nancy stated. “It's just…Can you please not touch anything?” Nancy told her, irritated.
“Well, ever since I left for college, you’ve practically adopted the babysitter name from me.” Aria responded to Steve’s question. “So, it’s only fair that you’re here looking after them.”
“I can't do anything here, Riya.” Steve sighed in frustration, walking closer to her. “Maybe I can be helpful with this asylum director dude. I don't know. I could turn on my…my charm.”
Aria crossed her arms. “Not the charm we need.”
“Ouch.”
“No, I just…” Aria shook her head, trying to reason with him. “Look. I did some digging last night and, as it turns out, this Dr. Hatch is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Harvard visiting scholar, okay? This is a lifelong student of the world. If we're gonna win him over, we're gonna have to convince him we are too.” Aria looked back at Nancy who was still going through her closet. “That, like him…we are true academic scholars.”
“Holy shit. There's a little ballerina in here.” Robin whispered, picking up Nancy’s ballerina music box.
Steve scoffed, pointing towards Robin. “Academic scholar? She's giving you an academic scholar vibe? Yeah.”
Nancy spoke up, bringing out a few dresses in her hands. “No, but…she will.”
“Oh, please, tell me you're joking.” Robin groaned. Aria and Nancy looked at each other, smirking.
Aria, Nancy, and Robin arrived at the asylum in Aria’s car, wearing the dresses Nancy lended them. Robin was complaining the entire time, frustrated that she had to wear an itchy dress. “I can't breathe in this thing, and I'm itchy. I'm itching all over.”
“It's not all about comfort.” Nancy responded, rolling her eyes. “Okay? We're academics.”
“Who are evidently coming straight from Easter brunch.” Robin threw her arms up. “Also, this bra that you gave me is really pinching my boobs.” She looked at Aria. “Do your boobs not feel weird in this bra?”
Aria let out a frustrated breath. “No, my boobs feel fine.” She sighed. “Just…just let Nance and I do all the talking, alright? If that’s even possible?”
“It's not only possible, it's inevitable. Because shortly, I'll be dead from strangulation.”
They sat in the director’s office, him looking at their fake profiles with an impressed look. “3.9 GPAs.” He said, turning towards them. “Both of you.” He looked at Aria. “And a 4.0 GPA. Impressive.”
Nancy handed him a piece of paper. “And this is a recommendation from Professor Brantley.”
He grinned. “Yeah, I know Larry. Quite well, actually.” The girls looked at each other. “Eh, you know what they say. ‘Those who can't do, teach.’”
“Uh, yes, yes, that's actually why we're here.” Aria said with a small smile. “I mean, we can only learn so much in a classroom.”
“And I'm sympathetic to your struggle, truly. But there is a protocol to visiting a patient like Victor. You put in a request and then undergo a screening process, at which point the board will make a decision.” The girls furrowed their eyebrows, worried that their plan was going to end up failing. “I can see you're disappointed. But I'm more than happy to give you a tour. Perhaps you can even speak to some patients in our low-security wing.”
“And we'd…we would love that.” Nancy said, Aria nodding along. “It's just that, um…our thesis is due next month.”
“And you're out of time. Whose fault is that?”
“Ours. Absolutely.” Aria reassured him. “And I do apologize—“
“Don't apologize, Ruby. Screw that.” Robin said, causing both girls to widen their eyes in shock. “The fact is, we did put in a request months ago and were denied. And then we reapplied and were denied again. And coming here was our last-ditch effort to save our thesis. And I really…I can't breathe in this thing.”
Aria turned her head, a little angry that Robin was messing up their meeting. “Well, Rose, maybe you'd like to go outside and get some air.”
“Maybe I should, Ruby. Because I'm starting to think this whole thing is a colossal mistake.” Robin stood up, looking down at the two girls. “I'm breaking out in a rash. My boobs hurt. And I'll tell you the truth, Anthony. May I call you Anthony?” Hatch sighed. “These aren't my clothes. I borrowed them because I wanted you to take us seriously. Because nobody takes girls seriously in this field. They just don't. We don't look the part or whatever. But can I tell you a story?”
Aria and Nancy’s eyes met each other, breathing heavily. They didn’t know what Robin was going to say but they had no choice but to listen.
“1978, I was at summer camp. And my counselor Drew told me and everyone in Cabin C the true story of the Victor Creel Massacre. And little Petey McHew…You know Petey, right, Ruby? Ruth?” She asked Aria and Nancy.
“Of… Of course.” Nancy answered.
“Yeah. Little Petey McHew started sobbing right there on the spot. Full-on hyperventilating. The other campers couldn't sleep for weeks. I couldn't either, but not 'cause I was scared. Because I was obsessed with the question, ‘What would drive a human being to commit such unimaginable acts?’ Other kids wanted to be astronauts, basketball players, rock stars. But I wanted to be you.” Robin exclaimed. “I wanted to be you. So, forgive me if I'll now try anything in my power, including wearing this ridiculous outfit, if I might get to speak to the man that ignited my passion and learn a little more about how his twisted, but let's face it, totally fascinating mind works.”
Aria’s lips parted, a little impressed with Robin’s quick thinking. Maybe she was wrong about Robin after all.
“So, yes, we don't have the official paperwork, but don't tell me that cry-baby Petey McHew wouldn't have gotten an audience with Victor in moments if he'd asked politely, because you and I both know that he would.”
Aria and Nancy smirked, their gazes darting towards the director.
“So…ten minutes with Victor. That's all I ask.”
They followed Hatch out of his office, smirks plastered on their faces. Robin was in between Aria and Nancy, letting her hand out so the girls could give each other a high-five.
“These are our gardens.” Hatch showed them, walking around the outside of the building. “Beautiful, aren't they? We allow them two hours of outside time a day.”
“Can't they just escape?” Robin asked, looking at all the patients.
“They could. But the vast majority choose to be here. They like it here.” They walked into the listening room, where more patients were. “This is one of our more popular areas. The listening room. We found that music has a particularly calming effect on the broken mind. The right song, particularly one which holds some personal meaning, can prove a salient stimulus. But there are those who are beyond a cure.” The girls looked at each other, raising an eyebrow at Hatch’s words.
They finally made it to the prison area, where Nancy spoke up. “Uh, Dr. Hatch, do you think it might be possible for us to speak to Victor alone?”
The guard and Hatch looked at her with furrowed brows. “Alone?”
“I…I think that we would just love the challenge of speaking with Victor without the safety net of an expert such as yourself.” Robin said. “Then we could really rub it in Professor Bradley's face.”
“Professor Bradley? I don't believe I know a Professor Bradley.”
“Brantley.” Aria quickly corrected. “She…she meant to say Brantley.”
“Didn't I say Brantley? What did I say?” Robin laughed nervously. “Sorry, silly me. Words, letters. Guess I'm just nervous. I mean, excited. So excited to speak with Victor. Preferably, as she said, alone?”
Hatch stared at them for a few more seconds, carefully studying them. “Yes. Why not? You've caught me in a rebellious mood.” He laughed. He looked down to check his watch. “And there's something rather urgent I need to check on anyway, so…Sure.” He turned around towards the guard. “Keep a close eye on them.”
“Thank you so much, Dr. Hatch.” Robin thanked him.
“Thank you.” Aria and Nancy thanked in unison.
The guard unlocked the door, the girls following close behind. “Do not startle him. Do not touch him.” Aria’s eyes darted towards all the others patients inside the prison, them looking at the three girls in return. “Do not pass him anything. Stand five feet away from the bars at all times. Is that clear?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Yes, sir.”
They made it to the end of the hall, seeing a man inside the prison with their back towards them, sitting in a chair. “Victor.” The guard called. “Today's your lucky day! You got visitors.” His gaze fell on the girls. “Real pretty ones.”
Aria furrowed her brows, trying not to grimace. Victor started to scratch his fingernails onto the table, the loud screeching echoing around the room.
“Must be in one of his moods.” The guard stated, walking away. “Have fun.”
“Victor?” Aria called out his name. “My name is Aria. Aria Kaul. And this is…”
“Nancy Wheeler.” Nancy said her name.
“And…”
“Robin Buckley.” Robin told him her name as well. “Um, we have some questions.”
“I don't talk to reporters.” Victor exclaimed. “Hatch knows that.”
“We're not reporters.” Nancy stated, the girls walking closer. “We're here because… we believe you.”
“And because…” Aria spoke up. “We need your help.”
“Whatever killed your family, we think it's back.” Robin added. Victor stopped scratching the table, slowly turning around to face the girls. Aria saw his face, his eyes completely scratched out. Her eyebrows furrowed, the corner of her lips turned down.

um, I was on a walk
A/N: hi, i love him. that's it, that's the plot. thank you and goodnight. (also that gif in the moodboard? first of all, not to be super horny, but brrrrr, and second of all, that is peak farmer!Steve energy. that whole end of that episode? farmer!Steve all the way baby)
summary: when you got lost on your walk through the woods, you accidentally walked into Steve's apple orchard
warnings: Steve Harrington x reader, farmer!Steve, neighbours, nothing but fluff as far as the eye can see

You didn’t even truly realise that you’d wandered out of the forest till you looked up and saw the numerous colourful apples in the trees above.
Too busy staring at the fruit, you didn’t manage to catch sight of the unexpected figure you suddenly bumped into.
“Oof,” got pushed out of your lungs.
Blinking up, you half expected it to be a tree trunk, but no, it was in fact not a tree. It was a man. More specifically, it was your neighbour, Steve. Now, that would explain the apples…
“Y/n!” he exclaimed, damn nearly dropping the picked apple in his palm before it reached its destination of the crate in the dew-covered grass, “what are you doing here?”
“Hi! Um, I was on a walk,” you explained nervously, feeling like a deer in headlights, “thought it was about time that I explored the forest a bit and I must have turned right when I should have turned left,” then cursed, fighting the urge to hit yourself over the head, “god, I knew I shouldn’t have left the trail! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to just wander onto your property. I swear, I’m not on some mischievous mission to steal your apples or anything like that.”
“Oh,” he slowly bent down to place the blushing apple in the flush wooden crate, “well, I wasn’t thinking that, but good to know, thanks.”
Feeling yourself calm a bit under his surprisingly relaxed demeanour, your eyes rested long enough for them to really drink his visage in. Just the smallest beads of sweat were visible on his brow as the back of his hands came to wipe it off, yet the hair was still flawless. After probably a whole day’s work, it was still perfect. Realising that you were now properly staring, you forced your vision back down to your boots and muttered a bit awkwardly, “well, I should probably head back…”
He simply flashed you a smile and said, “sure.”
Offering him a stiff nod, you whirled around and confidently started walking away. That confidence didn’t last very long though as you promptly stopped after just four steps with no clue what direction to go in.
Turning around slowly, you saw that he was still just standing there, hands in the pockets of his jeans. “Uh, you wouldn’t happen to know what direction my home is in?”
Breathing out just the hint of a chuckle, he glanced to the side and waved you towards him, “here, I’ll walk you home.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I was done anyway for today, so your timing is perfect,” his long legs started to move, and you scurried to catch up.
Passing one of the numerous trees, Steve’s feet didn’t even slow down as he reached up and plucked an apple to snack on.
Taking a bite, he asked you, mouth still crunching, “you want one?”
“Sure,” you stuffed your chilled hands deep within your coat pockets.
Reaching up once more, the apple that his fingers found was a deep maroon shade, with tiny speckles of green just around the stem. Tossing it your way, you stumbled a bit but luckily still caught it, even if you didn’t look like a ballerina doing it.
“Wow,” you took a bite, the crisp flavour zinging out your ears, “this is really good.”
“Thanks,” he flashed a smile in your direction.
“Have you ever thought about selling these?” you jested, trying your darndest not to simply burst out laughing at your own terrible joke, “because I really think they’d be a hit. People would pay you the big bucks for even just the smallest of nibbles.”
“You know,” he played along with a big grin, “never really crossed my mind.”

the way you move - s.h. - part 4
pairing: ballerina!reader x jock!steve harrington
warnings: none, just two pining idiots
1.6 words
an: sorry this took longer than I thought but we’re getting so close to the ending I’m so excited for lol these two need to stop dancing around each other and KISS but we’ll get there soon enough.
part 3
✶✶✶✶
The sound of conversation and scraping cutlery floats around you along with the classic smell of fresh fries. The booth’s leather is shiny under the fluorescent lights and the cozy spot at the far side of the diner gives you the perfect view of the street outside through chilled glass and the customers talking by the register to the left. It’s warm, lively, and comfortable; you couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening. Especially with your friends around you and the setting sun outside. Steve’s basketball team won their game tonight against the visitor team, so naturally you’re celebrating his victory with a greasy dinner before going to the cinema.
Robin and Nancy sit close to each other in the booth in front of you, looking happy and excited as they ask question after question. Steve sits next to you, his arm above your shoulder as it rests on the booth behind you, drawing you closer to him by the maddening yet fain smell of his cologne. As if your feelings aren’t enough, he had to flood your senses by proximity too.
To anyone walking by it, the scene at the table would look like a double date, but you know in your heart that it’s not. The reality is simple, no matter how much you want him to be, Steve isn’t your boyfriend. Lately you don’t really know what he is exactly, with how much affection he shows you and the way it has increased in doses since last Saturday. Friends don’t hold each other like he did, maybe best friends do, but they definitely don’t wipe your tears away or kiss your forehead as tenderly as Steve had. Yet he hasn’t said anything that may hint he wants to be something more, leaving you wondering if it’s all in your head. You really hope not.
Robin’s laughter makes your mind go back to the present, and if you subconsciously lean closer to Steve you pretend to not notice. Your two friends in front of you arrived from New York in the morning to visit their family and see Steve’s basketball game, and to show they are the epitome of a perfect couple. They balance each other out, and together they’ve become the best version of themselves; not to mention their new life in the city has suited them well. They don’t want to talk much about that yet though, instead asking question after question about Steve’s certificate, your university classes, and ballet. They want to catch up as much as they can before they leave on a redeye tomorrow, which seems fair as you’re now many miles away.
When you first met Robin and Nancy, you’d been apprehensive and frankly very scared. You knew how much Steve cared about them, so you wanted to get along with them because you cared so much about Steve. It’s something they seemed to notice right away, and all the pieces fell perfectly into place. You built a good dynamic before they left for New York shortly after you met them, and it’s been only you and Steve in Indianapolis ever since –except for the long phone calls the four of you share now and then.
“So, practice for the play is going well?” Nancy asks, stealing some of Robin’s strawberry milkshake. “We haven’t heard anything new since you told us auditions would be opening soon for the Nutcracker.”
You inevitably get teary-eyed but shake your head and the bittersweet feeling away. No reason to still be hung up about that. “I didn’t get the part I wanted but it’s going really well.”
“Oh no,” Robin’s shoulders sag as a shocked look comes across her face. Her and Steve exchange a look that can only mean Is she okay, so you hurry to speak again. The last thing you want is to rehash the ugly feelings from last week.
“It’s all good though, the girls that I’m dancing with are really nice.” You stress, hoping to reassure Robin. “I’m getting the costume fitted tomorrow, I’m excited.”
Nancy frowns and looks at Robin, like they know your optimism isn’t 100% genuine. “We’re sorry you didn’t get to be the lead, though.” She says reaching out and squeezing you hand. “We’ll try to come see the play, I think some of our classmates are driving through here for Christmas.”
“Who got it instead.” Robin asks, not helping herself and looking around. But there are no ballet dancers around you, so you shrug and give her the name.
“Ugh, Agatha.” Steve says with distaste. “Not only is she rude to you, she got the role.”
You chuckle at Steve’s petty tone and look up at him briefly, love bubbling under your skin. “Stevie, it’s okay.” He rubs your arm up and down in response and pulls you close to his side as you turn towards Nancy and Robin again. “Thanks guys but I’ve made peace with it. Stevie says he’s gonna tell everyone I’m the lead.”
Robin snorts and Nancy rolls her eyes, “Yeah, that sounds like you, dingus.”
“She’s gonna be so good they’ll think she’s the lead anyway. We have to cheer really loud and everyone will believe us.” Steve’s voice is so full of confidence you can image the beautiful smile on his face as his eyes burn the side of your face.
Nancy shakes her head, trying to understand Steve’s logic and it makes you laugh, which seems to be what Steve was aiming for. You look up at him in wonder for a second, feeling affection run through your veins and flooding you whole body just by looking at him. Even in the fluorescent lights his cheeks have their characteristic rosy color, and his eyes look as beautiful as ever, especially with the dark green sweater he’s wearing that makes them pop. Then he goes and makes the feeling worse by smiling and sending a knee weakening wink your way.
You’re grateful when he looks away after a second, glad that he gives your heart a time out. There’s only so much yearning it can take. A moment later of staring at his profile, you risk a look back at your friends only to regret it instantly. Nancy is giving you a knowing look that you don’t have time to ignore because a server arrives with your orders. Thankful beyond words for the interruption, you say “Okay, we can officially celebrate Stevie’s win.”
The four of you keep talking between mouthfuls of burgers and chicken strips you make everyone swear not to tell Madame Laverne about. Nancy and Robin finally start answering your own questions about their journaling and creative writing programs in the big city. They indulge you with funny stories their roommates have dragged them into, retelling their hunt for the best yet cheapest coffee shop, and all the odd places where they’ve found rats. Food gone and sky darkening 45 minutes later, Steve stands up and insists on paying the bill.
You knew it would happen but startle anyway when Robin leans close and ambushes you with questions. “What is going on here? Do you have some news you have to tell us?”
“No?” Your answer sounds more like a question to your ears after you urge Robin to keep quiet.
Nancy rolls her eyes in both exasperation and fondness. “Honey you both look like lovesick puppies, it’s like you’re going to kiss any second now.”
“You’re one to talk, when I met you both…”
“We were already together, which is why I need to know if you’ve told Steve yet!” Robin whispers, eyebrows doing acrobatics in anticipation to your answer. “I swear he looks like he’ll die if he can’t kiss you soon.”
You look away and chuckle awkwardly as your entire body lights up at the idea. “I mean you know how I feel so I wouldn’t complain if that happened. But no, I haven’t told him.” Your two friends had spotted you crush on Steve from miles away upon your first meeting. The teasing is incessant but you’re grateful for their support –and discretion.
“But if you feel that way, why don’t you make it happen?” Robin insists, sinking back into the red booth in defeat. “It’s so clear that Steve’s in love with you.”
You go to deny her statement but stop short when you see Steve approach. He smiles at you when he catches your eye and makes your heart stall inside your chest then start back up ten times quicker than before. Still, despite the nervous frenzy you’re in, you smile inevitably because… Steve makes you happy beyond words and you know how worried he’s been ever since you didn’t get your dream role, there’s nothing you want more than to put him at ease. You’re with him, of course you’re okay.
“Ready to go, beautiful?” Steve asks you then looks at his friends, “We’re going to miss the movie if we don’t leave.”
When all of you nod to agree he extends his hands and helps you out of the booth, his warm touch making electricity course from your point of contact to your heart. Even more so when he pulls you close to his side once outside in the winter night. “You sure you don’t want my jacket? It’s colder than usual tonight.”
You look up at Steve, smiling softly at his ever-present caring nature. “Everything’s perfect right now.” Your voice is light and gives away your emotion, and it makes Steve smile once more.
“Let me know, though.” He says and you can only nod, leaning your head on his shoulder until you get to his car.
What if Robin is right? What if you can just lean up and kiss Steve and feel him kiss you back immediately? But what if you’re all wrong and it ends your friendship? No, you can’t do that until you’re certain Steve feels the same way. But how will you know?
