“Stencil 78” My new stencil typeface made as part of a class branding assignment. The caps are based off a 1937 type specimen (image 2) that I found in “Stencil Type” @thedailyheller and @louisefili book. I added the lower case, numerals and other characters. The letterforms draw heavily on what came before, like the ever popular Futura Black, but with an emphasis on round geometry. There was a brutalist almost military feel to these relief stenciled street numbers in the village. When I took this in August 2016 the former occupant, French restaurant Di Fiore Marquet, had already closed for good and new owners/tenants, farm to table restaurant Villanelle, didn’t keep this little delight when they reconstructed the ramp it was on. Which I was sad to see but I’m sure there were accessibility or aesthetic consistency reasons.
