The first silkscreen print I ever made! I registration is quite off, (probably cause it's a hand-drawn stencil) but I kinda like how rough it is :)

This book presents a comprehensive view of the work of American painter Philip Taaffe (b.1955), who has expanded the parameters of painting through his use of silkscreen, linocuts, collage, stencils, gouache, chine-collé, marbling, acrylic, enamel, watercolour and gold leaf. Possessing many technical skills, Taaffe has moved decisively between unique pictorial inventions and appropriations, as well as overlaying divergent modes of representation, through cultural patterns found in ornament, and biomorphic abstraction.
John Yau's insightful text is the first to look at every part of Taaffe's artistic development, from the works he made at Cooper Union while a student of Hans Haacke, to the present. It pays special attention to Taaffe's acquisition of different techniques, as well as investigating his various sources of inspiration, which include the work of experimental filmmakers Stan Brakhage, Bruce Conner and Harry Smith, the Natural History illustrations of Ernst Haeckel, and the ancient art of paper marbling.

Trying another style of mugs! I got a new stamp set that is a lot cleaner than the old one and I like the big letter/small letter contrast. I also got dozens of crow silkscreen stencils and am pretty pleased with the details.

heey i have a band and want to make tshirts to sell at our next show, do you have any easy/cheap diy ideas that look nice? silkscreening is too expensive, and i'm not shure if a stencil + fabric paint would stand the test of time...
Okay this craft is thin foam board paper, cardboard, and hot glue, super glue if u can whateever to get that down.
First draw the design you want on the tshirt. Make it simple enough you can cut it out with scissors. Here im drawing out the words again and again playing with making each letter a solid shape with no holes, playing with letter sizes and fonts, trying to draw it smaller and bigger to see how it feels.
Then the finalised logo and size is done in tracing paper so it can be flipped :3 u can also use white paper, flip it, then shine your phone light under it, and draw the logo on the otherside. i just find havi a reference to work off of and getting familiar with the shapes your working with helps.
You cut the logo out of the foam board, then place it on the cardboard flipped to make the mirror image of your logo. Glue down all the foam pieces. I fucked up the D in my logo because i glued it on the wrong side. So i just cut it out again in some green foam.
Make sure to cut off the excess cardboard on the edges. Then tada you have a stamp!
To begin printing with your stamp use a roller to apply fabric paint to it. I personally use speedball fabric ink it is better for rolling onto stamps. The ink stays wet for a long time, applys well to fabric, washs away easy, and it stays better.
I use a rubber speedball roller as well as it applys it evenly. you can definitely diy a roller from a lint roller wrapped in smth. I use an overpriced $40 handle to press down the stamp to fabric. Before i used a heavy mug to press them down.
As you can see by how bad and uneven the color is in the below photo of my first print with the stamp, what really matters is taking your time to apply pressure and your body weight over all of the stamp. And making sure to take your time. It makes the difference in the tshirt print as you can see that i figured out to apply evenly.
If a patch doesnt come out even, you can come back in with a paint brush to fill in the gaps so it looks cleaner, as i did with that patch later.
Good luck with making your tshirts!! I cant wait to start making tshirts myself! So far all ive done is my own clothing but just you wait :3
Also i use wet wipes to try wipe it off. Its not linocut so you cant wash it. So making sure theres no paint on the cardboard before you print is important.

Mixed Media (Stencil, Silkscreen, and Collage)
"My art piece is a reminder that while the American public was protesting in the streets, in record numbers, against racism and police brutality, Donald Trump was encouraging police brutality against the protesters, reinforcing the very same problems within law enforcement and the criminal justice systems the protesters were demanding to be reformed."

I was going to post a progress pic of a pair of overalls I'm making from this cosplay's mockup.... and then realized that I hadn't posted the ACTUAL cosplay.
We were stuck in moving limbo this year, but I still wanted a new cosplay for Dragoncon, so I whipped together this Starfleet Rosie the Riveter! The blouse and self-sealing stem bolt were purchased, but the overalls, buttons, and bandanna were made (with the graphics and design help of my partner, @so-i-did-this-thing).
There aren't any licensed Trek fabrics I liked, so I made my own with temporary adhesive vinyl cut on @londonmall1987 's cricut which was used as a stencil. BTW, Jacquard Super Opaque Fabric Paint is LEGIT AS HELL. The cotton I used for the bandanna ended up being kinda thick, so I want to eventually remake it (hopefully with a proper silkscreen setup). The overalls were made from Folkwear's Rosie the Riveter pattern, which I HIGHLY recommend. Just do a mockup first to make sure the bodice is fitted nicely.

Creating Propaganda
When we say propaganda, we mean written materials that clearly represent the group’s consensed agenda. Propaganda distribution can be its own action, as with a wheatpasted flier or a stencil addressing a particular issue. Propaganda is also useful for getting people to a public demonstration or disseminating information. Propaganda may include:
Fliers: Put as much information as you have on them in as interesting and concise and glamorous way as possible.
Zines: Derived from “magazine,” these are a form of handmade self-publishing and are often photocopied, but can be silkscreened, printed, painted, handwritten, etc., and may involve mixed media. This information made its first debut in a zine!
Stickers: Fun to hand out at demos or stick them in places where wheatpasting or stenciling are not viable options.
Patches: People love free art.
Website: You’re on one right now. Great for disseminating information, but never rely on it.
Press release: To get those horrible media monsters to cover your brilliant, courageous action or intervention. A press release should always be succinct and inflammatory. Send out before deadline (call each outlet for specifics) and always include phone number for the designated media liaison.

Unique silkscreen print with palm, 2024 ~ by Tind Silkscreen, Greece_
Hand stencils, made by blowing pigment over a hand held against a wall, are found from over 35,000 years ago in Asia and Europe, and later prehistoric dates in other continents. Being a silkscreen printer encourages humility, gratitude, and a recognition of the collective effort that drives progress and innovation. We are following the steps of the masters, ditch everything we know, explore the limits of the medium with the curiosity of a child_

1, 5 and 10 for the ask game :)
1. what medium do you use most (if applicable, what software)?
I use Clip Studio Paint pretty exclusively nowadays, with a non-screen tablet (I can't draw looking down on a surface my neck hates it lol)
I rarely do traditional art nowadays but I enjoy printmaking :] (Rubber stamp carving and silkscreen stenciling)
5. how would you describe your art style?
kind of all over the place lmao. my comics and more toony work are admittedly in a very western-with-a-touch-of-anime-influence 'commercial' style with the character-focused art and bright, flat colors.
my more illustrative pieces are directly inspired by transparent cubism and art nouveau, though~
10. how do you deal with artblock?
so here's the thing. i'm actually rarely ever fully art blocked in that i find myself completely stuck as to what to draw.
this is especially rare nowadays since my current job has me busy enough that i always have some personal art project in the background i want to do once i have free time.
and if i feel stuck at art at my job. i have a deadline. i literally just power through it and make it happen no matter how stuck i feel. usually i just have to figure the Right background stimulation to be able to focus (is this a task for silence, for music, for a video game LP, for a video essay, an easy-to-digest dubbed anime, or for me to stream it to friends for co-working?)
but ok. right now i'm in a kind of partial block where i just find i hate working on full illustrations and rendered work. but i'm having fun just drawing aforementioned comic and toony work of guys just standing around. so the answer is. i just draw something different bc i literally always find something i want to do.
in the rare event i AM fully art blocked i just do my other hobbies until it returns lol (gaming, prose writing, music composition.)
#ask game#im sorry i don't have very actionable advice for art block like.#im literally just built to see drawing as like eating and breathing

I was doing some more screen printing now that I have actual purple fabric ink and my used silkscreen looks really cool with the ink and the silver vinyl I used to cut my stencil (photo flipped bc the stencil is reversed)

Silkscreen week 1+2.
Read till the end if you can. Lol.
So this was harder than I thought it was going to be. Not the actual physical pulling or printing. But more the thinking. I’m used to being able to control Z, delete layers, re-do layers, have a v36 within 20mins. All digitally.
I couldn’t do this here. We had a pre-made screen and then we started printing. I just had to do. And I didn’t think. And Rolina showed me how to finger paint on the screens. Amazing! So freeing. No thinking, just moving your hands. Just intuitively feeling your way.
So there were no smooth beautiful ombré gradients - which I love!! But I equally loves these mish-mashy prints of colour and I got to just freestyle on the screen.
And then we added layers. This is where I got a little stuck. Not stuck. Just…'ohhhh that’s what happens if you do that, not the other thing I thought of in my head'. My positive/negative needed to switch around 🤣
But some cool things emerged and it was a learning curve.
I needed to plan this and I didn’t have the brain power to do that in class.
But I love the quality of the prints and it was really easy. Using simple stencil shapes - in my case the moon phases - gave these lovely halo effects. There was at one point just a full circle print. It was bold. And pulled you in. Powerful. I love the simple shapes. They aren't that simple though. They hold information and power. And so much more.
