I remember when I started to try to pierce together headcanons on MU species I desparately tried to retcon the non-Ehlek Barraki into other MU species. Because I thought it was rather stupid that Greg confirmed that the Barraki didn’t belong to any of the other species, when making them part of any preiviously introduced species would’ve been an easy way of preventing the species bloat later Bionicl had. So this resulted in me just stubbornly trying to make the Barraki conected to other MU characters/species by looking at the species we know as well as most characters with unique/vague species and going “could this share the same species as one of the Barraki?” Most notably I remember how I literally tried to assign Sidoraks species/Higher Steltian to every single Barraki that wasn’t Takadox (Mantax and Kalmah especially) and the whole “Carpar is the same species as Brutaka and therefor he sank in washing machine” post.

 At some point I feel I got frustrated of trying to reverse-engineer the Barraki into same species as other characters and decided to make Pridaks species its own thing separate from anything established in the canon, which later on led the creation of the Overseers. While I originally wanted Pridaks species to be the only original one, A while later I decided  to give Takadox an OC-species as well after  being inspired by @sepublic ‘s idea of his species being a bunch of moth-people. And honestly this choice felt so liberating from a creative standpoint. Before I made that decision I felt I was trying to push Square Peg into a round hole, trying to make something fit where it didn’t belong. After I decided to just “fuck it” and go all original with Pridaks and Takadoxs species it felt much more fun and satisfying for me personally: It felt as if these obligations I had forced on myself were lifted from me and I was allowed to do whatever I pleased with these characters. I just felt the result was much more rewarding creatively. I was fully allowed to go all out with  the concepts and go super deep into  the physiology, behaviors, cultures and what not with these living beings, without worrying of trying to work within a narrow framework of canon and trying to decide which characters shared their species with the Barraki and why.
