Steiff's "Mourning Bear", sold in 1912 few weeks after the Titanic sinking. Only about 500 bears were made before production was put to a quick halt, as concerned parents found it exploitative of the tragedy and refused to buy them for their children.

I mostly like to collect bears! My wife loves dragons, wolves, and foxes. But we also have a few friends who don't quite fit any of those categories, so we've set them up with a really cool space in our closet!

It makes me really happy to just walk in and see them there happy 😊 My favorites are the Stay Puff I've had since I was three, both of my Rowlfs (my favorite Muppet!), and our Steiff elephant Margie, which my wife and I bought on our wedding anniversary trip to the teddy bear museum in upstate NY!

I do want to decorate a lot more in here and make it cozier for them. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

Teddy Bear 0202/36 | Steiff, 1980s?

Yall, I’m so excited about this bear you have no idea. I lost an auction for a different Steiff bear that looked way different from their usual designs, but I still really really like the way the contrasting faces look. So I found an auction for a cheaper, more worn one.

This bear is handmade and the materials are 50% cotton, 50% wool. You can really tell when you hold it! The material feels great even with all the wear on it. The head and all limbs are jointed. It’s extremely stiffly stuffed, which I wasn’t expecting. Though I guess cuddlier toys aren’t this brand’s style. Originally this bear had a red ribbon around it’s neck, I’ll have to make a new one.

Edit: thanks to new info about the ear tag, this bear is probably from the 80s! The original listing I bought this from said it was from the 60s (which I doubted, cus resellers love to exaggerate), which goes to show why you should take info from resellers with a grain of salt.
