detroit: become human fic recs

 man it’s been a while since I’ve compiled a list of fic recs for a fandom, but there’s some good shit out there and I feel like spreading the love

these are going to be kind of all over the place in terms of content btw*** 

alright let’s get this party started!

Shadow Mine -  xSparklingRavenx - let’s start with this one because it comes closest to the platonic ideal of what I personally am looking for in dbh fic: Connor’s eternal struggle with having emotions. and also MURDER. it’s a case fic, and while the mystery element isn’t strong, it’s still real good you guys

Christmas, 2038 - phocion  - POLITICS AND EMOTIONS. God I love how both Connor and Markus are written in this, it’s good shit.

All of Detroit is Lonely -  steadycoffeeflow (Salimity) - this one’s got some good banter and emotions! I really like it when Connor just can’t even deal with his emotions, I’m a sucker for that kind of shit

Saturn -  Notspiderman - you ever read a fic and suddenly realize something about yourself? like, say, apparently you just REALLY enjoy shit that has fantasy open heart surgery? not like in a gross way, you just, idk, really like fake science shit and also the raw vulnerability inherent in having someone else poking around in your mechanical organ pile? ANYWAY I feel like I learned something about myself reading this one. also hot shit I love AUs! the action scenes are well written, too.

Machine Learning -  kriegersan - in which Connor has some REALLY bad timing, and there’s also some kind of crazy computer virus going around. and also  MURDER

Flowchart -  albawrites - I’ve recced this before but man I love me some roleswap AUs. In this one, basically all three protagonists take a jump to the left (and then a step to the right) I’m especially interested in seeing how the Hank and Markus dynamic will develop

Call of the Void - danceswithronin - listen I am LIVING for that ‘Connor has an internal struggle with his programming’ shit, and this whole fic is basically that turned up to 11 (it’s one more than 10)

hey guess what! I like fic that turns one dimensional designated ass holes into fully realized creations! here’s some recs specifically for that fucker Gavin!

Empathy and Other Dead Weight - CynKLBouns - written from Gavin’s pov and features his slowly evolving opinion on androids and also MURDER. also one of the best OCs, you guys, I fucking love Iris. It’s really good. can’t wait for that sequel!

It Was Never About Jealousy -  ChangeTheCircumstances - so apparently gavin and kamski are played by the same guy which has lead to the popular idea that they are secretly brothers. this fic takes that idea and runs with it. it’s pretty great! sad lack of murder buuuuuuut

Break me slowly - another one by ChangeTheCircumstances, it’s all about Gavin and RK900 and also MURDER. this one is fucking DARK in several different ways. lots of emotional manipulation in this but I am loving that hannible/will dynamic.

Volumes One and Two of O Human Star came in the mail. Beautiful webcomic I supported through a Kickstarter campaign a few months back. Written by Blue Delliquanti, the whole series explores themes of identity in a robotics driven world and how humans grieve through various loss. Somewhere in the back of his mind, Hank’s non-alcohol addled brain was reminding him he hadn’t told Connor anything in particular at Stratford Tower. Last he could rightly remember, they were both watching that deviant’s speech and Connor hadn’t shared his thoughts with the detective. Connor had clearly been thinking of something, but of what, Hank couldn’t decipher. A part of him, at the time, had hoped that the deviant’s message had swayed something in Connor.

Hank sure felt that it had swayed something in him.

That was it. Hank could remember nothing else.

Rather, he just didn’t want to remember anything else.

Hey hey hey - I did a thing. And I promise to keep working at said thing. I’ve got too much energy and love at the moment. Should be short and filled with entirely too much sweet domesticity.

He certainly felt different from when Hank had been praising him just a few minutes before. The detective sure was quick to change his moods, which made him an adequate challenge for testing Connor's range of not-so-agreeable human interactions.

But after the day he'd been having, he wished Hank would be more in the "agreeable" category for once.
