What if Jesus had “stayed the fuck inside” during times of sickness and plague? What if Jesus had avoided crowds and practiced social distancing? What would Jesus do at THIS time?

I am not and never have been a Christian. I’ve read only portions of The Bible. That said, I believe wholeheartedly in the strength of the Life Force that filled the being of Jesus of Nazareth.

Walking through the Valley of the Shadow of Death is not the pretty picture that some sketch of footprints in the sand and being carried in the arms of Jesus or a comparable divine hero-figure.

Walking through that Valley is slogging with your own feet in sticky mud, wishing... praying for it to pull you under because suffering is so intense and enduring. But in the walking, those prayers are not answered. And it’s exactly BECAUSE they’re not answered that you realize the truth.

The truth is that Life Force is WITHIN you. It is THE vital part of your existential humanness.

As I’ve walked through that Valley, Jesus hasn’t held me — neither have other iterations of God, angels, etc. Whether those iterations exist can be a topic for a different conversation. I don’t know those answers. What I do KNOW is that Life Force has been very much alive in me, in us, in each of us. If you’re reading this post, it’s alive in you.

Death is master of that Valley. I’ve walked with Him. Our fingers have brushed. It’s been almost sensual at times, (maybe because He’s emotionally unavailable and I used to have a thing for that 😂.) He has not taken me because it has not been my time to be taken. The Life Force in me has thus far been too strong.

Let me restate the relevant truth as I know it. The truth is that Life Force is WITHIN you. It is THE vital part of your existential humanness.

I ask what would Jesus do at THIS time, and I don’t need to self-identity as a Christian to know the answer. He would not #StayTheFuckInside. He would not avoid crowds nor would He practice social distancing.

He would go out and Love — with a calling stronger than fear of persecution or death. I feel this calling too, and I know I’m not the only one.
