To nie tylko stary kościół. To Gol stavkirke – drewniana świątynia, która wygląda, jakby wyszła prosto z opowieści o wikingach i dawnych bogach. A jednak stoi tu, w samym sercu Oslo w Norsk Folkemuseum.

Kiedy stanąłem przed tym budynkiem, serio… aż zaparło mi dech. Te smocze głowy na dachu, zapach starego drewna, cisza, która mówi więcej niż niejeden przewodnik. Czułem się jakbym cofnął się w czasie. Jakbym zaraz miał usłyszeć dźwięk rogu i zobaczyć jak ktoś wychodzi w zbroi z toporem.

To miejsce ma duszę. Warto tu być. Warto się zatrzymać. Warto poczuć to na własnej skórze.

It's not just an old church. It's Gol stavkirke - a wooden temple that looks like it came straight out of a story about Vikings and old gods. And yet it stands here, in the heart of Oslo in Norsk Folkemuseum.

When I stood in front of this building, seriously… it took my breath away.

Those dragon heads on the roof, the smell of old wood, the silence that says more than many a guide.

I felt like I had gone back in time. As if I was about to hear the sound of a horn and see someone come out in armor with an axe.

This place has a soul. It's worth being here. It's worth stopping. It's worth experiencing it for yourself.

On the topic of amperes, yes I did indeed get around to making an ampere character - this is Kenai! It goes without saying that they're half human, but their other half is a Livastian Dassault Cyclone. Their two halves, Mavis and Stavkirke respectively, met after enlisting into the air force and enrolling in the HaFSRS program after training with each other for a few years. At this point, they've on average been an ampere for half of their lives, and don't plan on changing that any time soon.

The right word isn't "fresh," but "unseasoned." There's a reason wooden churches and wooden church roofs go up so fast - a few hundred years of seasoning, and . . .

As the church was destroyed in a fire in 1992, the building was rebuilt in the original style in the late 1990s. The wood in a more venerable stave church would not look so fresh!

a replica of Gol Stavkirke in Minot, ND. also a business sidequest. i had about 20 minutes to run in a circle around it before catching a flight. stave churches were my first subject of serious academic writing soooo it was an intense experience to go inside this thing. i found out there's a designated area for laying your sword against the wall before entering. swords were not allowed inside the church. and i also learned that they close the doors for mass and they stand. imagine church standing in the dark? (wildly different from the modern american christian experience...) these churches come before the modern advent of windows. i spent a Year reading about them and never knew these details. 20 minutes standing before it taught me more. a weird lesson to learn.

Les Stavkirke de Norvège: un trésor national

Les églises à piliers de bois (ou stavkirke), admirées pour leur architecture unique et leurs décors magnifiques, comptent parmi les constructions médiévales les plus célèbres de Norvège. On les appelle ainsi en raison des pieux ou piliers en bois composant leur structure principale. Il ne reste plus que 28 stavkirke encore debout sur les 1000 que l’on trouvait partout dans le pays. Ces églises furent construites entre le début du XIIe siècle et 1349, date à laquelle l’épidémie de peste noire démarra en Norvège. Bâties en bois, elles remontent aux débuts de la chrétienté dans le pays. Ces églises alliaient la tradition ancestrale du travail du bois, avec ses têtes de dragons caractéristiques par exemple, et les codes de l’architecture de pierre, plus commune dans le reste du continent européen. On trouvait autrefois des stavkirke dans d’autres régions d’Europe du Nord, mais il n’en reste plus qu’en Norvège. Voici certaines des stavkirke que tout visiteur devrait visiter lors d’un séjour dans le pays.

🇳🇴 Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit of Norway

The Crown Prince couple visited flood victims in Østre Toten. The Skogen Rebne family talked about how they experienced getting the bodies of water close up to the house wall. Østre Toten is one of many areas that have been heavily hit after the extreme weather "Hans" hit Southern Norway. Crown Prince Haakon traveled on to Ringebu, where he visited Ringebu Stavkirke, among other things, and got an orientation about the railway bridge over Lågen that has collapsed.

Jour 2 - Bergen

Réveil "tardif" ce matin, on avait une nuit à récupérer et de toute manière, il pleut !

Nous partons de l'appart à 11h30 en direction du Bergenhus Festningmuseum. Financé par les militaires norvégiens, il s'agit du seul musée gratuit de la ville, ils nous offrent même le café et le thé. Mais ça ne sera plus le cas en 2024 car il deviendra payant.

Nous avons appris que la Norvège était assez peu impliquée dans la deuxième guerre mondiale, elle l'a été malgré elle lorsque l'Allemagne l'a envahie. Bergen était d'ailleurs un point important de la bataille entre l'Allemagne nazie et l'Angleterre.

C'était intéressant de découvrir sous un autre angle cette guerre que nous connaissons majoritairement à travers l'Histoire française.

À la fin de la visite, il y avait une expo de photos sur la guerre en Ukraine.

En sortant (il pleuvait toujours autant), nous nous sommes dépêchés d'aller au Fish Market qui, comme son nom l'indique, est un marché intérieur et extérieur dans lequel on retrouve du poisson frais !

Encore une fois... on n'est pas dépaysés 😂

D'ailleurs, nous avons rencontré un couple de français à l'appart. Ils viennent d'un petit bled à côté de Meaux apparemment.

Au menu : burger de saumon pour Antoine, soupe de saumon et cabillaud pour moi. Comme d'habitude ici, le tarif n'est pas donné, mais on s'est régalé.

Pause terminée, direction Fantoft Stavkirke (traduction : Église en bois debout de Fantoft). C'est un peu éloigné de Bergen mais ça vaut le détour. Tout est en bois et quand on entre dedans, ça sent comme dans le sauna.
