welcome back to my favorite genre of what i like to call "cassian, you idiot"; microfic list!

As the ship clears the atmosphere and he calculates the coordinates before making the jump to hyperspace, they don't speak.

It's probably for the best; the tasks that Cassian has had, and still have, in front of him require all the focus he can give. Avoiding any damage to the hull while being actively shot at isn't something that can be done with anything less than a clear mind, and as soon as they reach space that's safe enough to allow it, he has a careful encrypted transmission to send to command — one to inform that this mission has failed, before he saves the particulars for the debriefing. Whatever Jyn does or doesn't have to say to him isn't something he can make space for.

He doesn't as he transitions full piloting duties to Kay, even as he can feel her eyes on him from the other side of the cockpit. Footsteps follow him when he stands from the pilot's seat, but he still keeps jaw clenched and the air between them silent. The last thing he needs is a conversation. The —

His ears begin to ring, painfully, and his feet nearly fall out from underneath him, forcing him to grip onto the nearest console for balance. One glance at his arm reveals a steady stream of blood running down it.

The steps that have been following him come to a stop, and in the next instant, there's a hand on him, soft. Gentle. Cassian scrunches his eyes tightly shut and sucks a breath in through his teeth.

Snaps: "If I needed help, I would've called."

He doesn't need to see Jyn's face to know what has to be happening to it — hardening eyes, jaw turning to stone. The chill in her voice is sharp, precise as a vibroblade, when she counters, "No, you wouldn't. You would've done what you're doing right now." The soft touch turns to a grip. "You would've let yourself die before you said a fucking word."

There's an argument sitting on his tongue, ready to be launched, but it never has the chance; the ringing in his ears overwhelms everything else, and his knees begin to give way.

The last thing he feels is being caught before he hits the floor.

8. Were you inspired by a fellow gifmaker to make a gifset?

All the time!!! And I make every effort to link direct inspirations in my captions if I have them! There's sooo much gorgeous work here. Two amazing people I want to call out who inspire me often:

Nik @cal-kestis is not only an insanely talented gifmaker but also unbelievably generous in sharing resources with other creators! I used her Google templates for my Felicity and Diego birthday gifsets in 2024 💖 Her gifs are always stunning, and her skill with gif effects is absolutely mindblowing!!

Mona @khaotungthanawat is one of the most creative gifmakers I've everrr seen! Her gifs are beyond beautiful, and the way she uses fonts and colors is UNREAL. Sometimes I literally go look at her gifs just to be inspired by what is possible 🥹 Also she is so so kind and supportive 💕

9. Did you notice a mistake in a gifset you made once it was posted? Did you fix it or pray no one noticed?

I definitely have before and I'm sure I did in the past year, but I genuinely can't remember...maybe I mentally blocked it out 😂 I'm always so worried about publishing with a visible mistake so I try to check things super thoroughly before hitting post. I really don't think it's a big deal on principle, but it drives me crazy with my own stuff 😵‍💫 When I have noticed mistakes, if I still have the right files I will fix it and replace the gif in question!

16. Do you have a favorite gifset you made this year?

Oh it's tooo hard to choose! I've mentioned a few Rebelcaptain ones in previous answers and those are usually my most favorite to be quite honest — but for something else a little different, I like this Shatterpoint Lineage gifset I made for swsource on May 4th! It was really fun to work with the colors and typography there; also I know I'm biased as a Rebels lover lol but it made me happy to give some extra love to the lesser-known Jedi lineage too!

✨ A fic you wish you could read again for the first time

lmao can i answer all of them? like seriously.

okay okay but in all seriousness I'm gonna have to go with The Violet Hour by caramelle (again). specifically because the feeling i had when i heard the first notes of the piece that Jyn requests Cassian to play was just incredible. it was such a moving and tender story, and the piece is not revealed until end, via a youtube link in the author's note, so you have all this context to go along with it... it's such a lovely reveal for a lovely fic. and hearing that for the first time was so, so lovely.

WIP GAME

The word I’m choosing is: SCAR

H- He blinked a few times, trying to sort through his liquor heavy haze. As his vision finally clears so does his recollection of last night. 

Beside him, clad in only his thread bare university shirt Jyn Erso is fast asleep, lightly snoring from her perch atop his bare chest. 

O- “Oh my god,” She props her head atop his chest, eyes twinkling with delight. “Do you have a crush on me?”

“We just fucked.” He replies dryly. 

“Oh my god you do!”

“My come is literally leaking out of you.”

Jyn playfully pokes his heating cheek.

“You’re blushing.” She coos. 

P- Permanent ocular damage and severe third degree burns to twenty percent of her body were a few of her myriad of injuries. They refused to let Jyn view herself, fearing the sight would cause even further physiological damage. 

E-Ever so slightly she felt his palm squeeze in response. 

Her kyber crystal hummed between their embrace. 

Welcome home.
