12 Days of Starmora - Fic Recs

Hello, everyone! I was super stoked about the lovely 12 Days of Starmora, which starmoraquills and gamoraspeter did such an amazing job organizing (THANK YOU!) and I was floored at the content that you all worked hard to create! I loved each and every fanwork, and wanted to share my absolute favorites (apologies for the lack of gif headers, I’m not nearly as talented as gamoraspeter):

+ and now it seems my only chance is giving up the fight by philthestone Gamora takes a moment to just be with Peter, after a mission. Soft and sweet, with beautifully written descriptions. It’s a sobering, subtle, and intense look at how their job takes a toll on them. Excellent showcasing of the depth of Gamora’s feelings for Peter. I love how tactile and quiet this is!

+ be my fire in the cold by Pikapegasus Peter and Nebula’s bond grows following a harrowing experience, when he jumps into a freezing lake after Gamora. Lots of Peter&Nebula BROTP feels - it’s a very realistic take on their evolving friendship - and super sweet Starmora cuddling ❤

+ I only remember the sweetest of things by enigma731 + invisibledaemon Gamora and Peter take a moment to breathe and talk about his family. I love how realistic this is, in delving into the challenges Meredith and Peter faced while he was growing up. And Gamora is awesome and supportive, and this made my heart melt!

+ i reach for you and you bring me home by archetypically Post-IW fic in which Peter gets his act together and proposes to Gamora. Peter’s voice is SO on point <3 It’s just so in character to me how he builds it up in his head, then blurts it out, and Gamora wouldn’t have him any other way! Such a lovely read.

+ Lifeboat by Peril_in_Peace Gamora and Peter become stranded in the Milano after she’s breached, and they resort to desperate measures as they wait for help. This is absolutely phenomenal: the intensity, the descriptions of the ship and has one of my favorite mental images ever: Peter and Gamora sharing a spacesuit. LOVE.

+ Lights/Fireworks by EmilliaGryphon While Peter and Gamora shop together, he tells her about Hanukkah. I’ll never get tired of fic in which Peter tells Gamora stories, and this is a prime example <3 It’s awesome to gain new insight about traditions, and this does a great job of that, with bonus Starmora sweetness!

+ No Matter How Far Away You Roam by enigma731 While visiting Grandpa Quill, Peter sets up Christmas lights and shows them to Gamora. I absolutely love this, it’s incredibly endearing and such an awesome way of showing how much Peter cares for Gamora, and how he introduces her to new things. Beautiful descriptions!

+ Secret Santa by invisibledaemon Peter and Gamora don’t draw each other’s names, but they get each other presents anyway. This is such an adorable, creative take on Secret Santa, and their gifts are SO fitting for each other. I melted into a puddle of goo when I read what Gamora got Peter ❤

+ Spark My Memory by Wawa_Girl The gang surprises Peter by gifting him a photo album. I love this! All the characters’ voices are on point, and it’s such a touching, heartwarming read. Also, Gamora and Peter are super sweet and in tune with each other. I was constantly going ‘aww’ as I read this.

+ Yondu Claus by dan_vs92 Peter shows Gamora letters he wrote to Santa when he was a child. I won’t spoil anything, but it turns out to be both heartbreaking and heartwarming, and I get such a natural, easygoing vibe between the happy couple. I really love the ending. This is so well-written and sweet <3 Also, shoutouts to fuckyeahstarmora, grootunofficial, and tankhera for sharing gifsets, manips, and a cosplay, respectively! There were so many wonderful works - thank you to everyone. You all rock!  ❤

Not 1,000% positive I’m doing this right, but tagged by perilinpeace. Thank you! I try to keep this blog completely Guardians-centric, but I’ll break the rules a little bit here since you were nice enough to tag me. ^_^

Fictional character I relate to the most: Well, in terms of Guardians of the Galaxy, definitely Peter Quill. I don’t care if it’s cliche, I really do. While I don’t carry grief in the same way he sadly does, it’s impossible not to relate to his dorkiness, good heart, sense of friendship and sentimentality, sarcasm, humor, and of course love for good music.

Regarding other media, I’d probably say Chandler Bing from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and Helga Pataki from “Hey Arnold!” :P

Book you can read over and over without getting tired of it: Well, this one is kind of difficult, since I regret to say that I’m not much of a reader, so I’ll cheat and say that I read The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher just before Christmas, and really loved it, could not put it down. True, I haven’t read it more than once, but if I owned it I’m sure I would be reading certain parts multiple times.

What’s your favorite comfort show/movie: Well, Hollywood Ending is one of my top favorite movies, and is certainly light-hearted and goofy enough to be considered a “comfort” movie. I’d also say Toy Story, since just having it on TV in the background while I was drawing the other night made me realize that I think no film makes me laugh harder or more consistently, no matter how many times I watch it.

Obviously you know I love both Guardians of the Galaxy films to pieces, but I don’t know if at this time I’d consider them “comfort” movies since I’m SO engrossed in the fandom right now, writing fanfiction, running a blog, making up headcanons, etc. I feel like any time I rewatch them now I’d be obsessively freaking out over the Peter/Gamora or Yondu scenes, sobbing over Ego’s confession, and analyzing every detail I never noticed, trying to be sure my fics have never contradicted canon. Hardly comforting. ;) But in terms of general “favorite” I love Volume 2 the best. ^_^

Comfort shows? Hmmm, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. My close friend pushed me and pushed me to watch it back in 2015, and I REALLY resisted, and now I’m so happy he pushed, because I love it. It remained consistently good for 10 seasons, which is so hard for most shows, and I love having it on before I fall asleep. Also classic Spongebob (a.k.a. pre-movie Spongebob) is pretty comforting and nostalgic. It wasn’t until this past November when I was watching more TV because my laptop was broken that I realized how much of those old episodes really shaped our generation’s humor.

Which fictional character are you most defensive over: Well, I don’t know if I have a fictional character that needs defending, that other people do not appreciate, but I will always defend Peter Jason Quill to the end of the galaxy.

Show you fell out of love with: I guess iCarly? Just outgrew it. Used to be obsessed as a teen. -shrug-

Also I guess you could say How I Met You’re Mother. I’ll always be a “fan” on some level, but that goddamn finale, and a lot of season 9 in general, really ruined a lot of it. :(

Show you’re most excited for: The remaining season of Adventure Time? Sure, that’s a good, honest answer.

In terms of movies, of course Infinity War, though I’ll confess, with that I’m mostly looking forward to the first viewing being over with, so my worry about the emotion and characterization and ending can be put to rest and we all can discuss it and look forward to some more light-hearted adventure in Volume 3, which I’m looking forward to even more, and am glad we’ll have a good 2 years in between films to get ready for.

What’s your aesthetic: Gaahh, the meaning of this word is always changing, and I can’t keep up with you young people and your terms, I’m sorry! :P

Favorite fanfic tropes: THIS I can definitely answer! - Hurt/Comfort, specifically post-nightmare hurt/comfort. I’ve got a real weakness for it. - Tending to injury/patching each other up. - Tickling, tickle fights, tickle fluff, especially between romantic relationships in cute ways, but friendship works, too!

The boy’s birthday

Since we don’t know when Peter’s birthday is, I feel like the Guardians would want to do something for him.

Silence filled the air around the small room, sitting on the bed, running his rough hands on the soft material. Peter was thinking, not about much but he was thinking about where he was. He was thinking about what who he was and his new home. He was terrified to think of what the light did to him, if he could still see the destruction, Ego set out for, if he closed his eyes. He wasn’t sleeping much, he didn’t want to wake up one day to find himself a monster.

But he wasn’t. He was scared and lost, Gamora knew it. She noticed how tense he had become after losing Yondu and killing Ego. How he could barely crack a smile or even close his eyes. She wanted him to be the Peter she knew again but she also knew how hard it was to find happiness in dark times. Still the green woman thought that she should cheer him up. They had almost been a team for a year and even though she couldn’t remember the last birthday she celebrated, maybe a birthday would remind Peter of earth and who he really was.

Yes, Gamora wasn’t an expert on Terran culture but she’s learned some from Peter and even Kraglin who told stories of little Peter. Drax, Rocket, and even a now teenage Groot wanted to help so they wouldn’t have to stand a mopey Quill any longer. Rocket tried to make decorations, but kind of ended up making small bombs and deciding not to tell anyone. Drax went with Gamora to look for a gift for Peter, and Groot “borrowed” the zune to make a playlist, based on if he liked the sound of the song. Gamora would look on every planet that they visited for a gift but nothing sufficed. She eventually thought Quill would notice her absences but he never followed her.

Although one day, “where’s ‘mora?” Rocket shrugged, “beats me Quill” continuing to work on the decor, (bombs). Peter sighed and wandered around the ravager ship, looking for her. Sometimes he almost felt like a child again looking for her but he did anyway. He watched the door fall and the assassin walk back onto the ship carrying something. Gamora immediately noticed him standing there and quickly hid the gift behind her, hoping he didn’t see it. “Hey you’re back, where- what’s that?” “Nothing” she let out softly. He stares back in confusion, “Mora....” Her expression softens but she runs past him in order to properly hide the object. Peter, at this point annoyed, runs after her. “Mora what the hell? Why are y-“ He pauses, Gamora is standing silently with the object held high in front of her. It’s a stuffed purple and orange dragon. Now to most people this meant nothing but since Kraglin told the story of Peter going to a place called ‘Disneyworld’ with his mom and loving the small dragon, Fig, no Figment.

Peter slowly looked up at Gamora with tears forming in the corners of his eyes. He gently took the small dragon from her hands and brought it to his chest letting out a small sob. It broke her heart to see him like this but he looked at her again and wrapped his arms swiftly around her and brought her close. “thank you” he whispered. She smiled into his shoulder and let go. “I didn’t want you to think of yourself as a monster. So I thought maybe the celebration of your birthday would remind you of terra” “I am mora, I feel the light burning inside me, it’s maybe just in my head but I’m terrified” “you are not a monster Peter Quill, you are the most honorable man in the galaxy, you are strong, intelligent, and yet innocent. Bad things have happens to you but that doesn’t make you bad person” he gives a small smile and reaches for one of her hands. “Actually you should also be thanking the rest out there because they helped too. Rocket made the decor even though they’re actually bombs but he tried” “HEY YOU WERENT SUPPOSED TO KNOW” Peter let out a giant laugh and almost fell over from it. Gamora smiled again and squeezed his hand. Everything fell silent as they gazed into each other’s eyes, eventually finding their souls. They were both young but strong, knowing that the love they shared for each other was unbreakable. The silence finally broke with the three words usually left unspoken “I love you” “I know”

8. As an apology – send me a prompt and i’ll write a few paragraphs based on it!

Stars never stood out to Gamora much before this – this Terran tradition that Peter seems to hold dear. There is something soothing about stargazing, though, especially when snuggled up to someone as soft and warm as Peter. Her head rests on his chests. She listens to his heartbeat, listens to the soft sounds of the zune playing close by, as her eyes peek up at the stars overhead. No light pollution allows for the millions of them to shine brightly, swimming in the shade of night. It’s stunning.

Peter’s favorite game is finding shapes to make up his own constellations. It’s pointless, but endearing, she thinks. Like a secret they both share any time they stare up at the night sky – like the constellation Peter dubbed as Pac-Man (some earth video game that Gamora doesn’t understand the hype for. A small yellow circle collecting smaller white circles doesn’t seem that entertaining) is something that they only know. And… that name…

Her mind reels back to Ego, the times before, during, and after. It was a stupidly common theme with Peter during all that, which kind of soils the idea of Pac-Man for her. But it seems like it hasn’t for him, which she supposes is a good thing at least. Still…

“Peter?” She sits up to gaze at his face.

His green eyes are tired, barely peeking open. (It is pretty late, and it is comfortable swaddled up in all these blankets on the warm grass.) But they become alert at the sound of his name, and he smiles, reflexively.

“Yes?” His voice is thick with sleepiness.

Gamora’s heart lurches. She bites her bottom lip in attempt to collect her thoughts, in attempt to prepare for something heavy.

“Back on Ego’s planet –” she flinches at saying it out loud, and Peter noticeably tenses under her “– we had that disagreement.” Disagreement is an understatement. That fight on there – it was just so – ridiculous. Childish of her. She knew Peter was in a vulnerable place, and she was being a bit unfair. But it was a heated moment, and –

“I’m sorry,” Peter replies in a hushed voice, his smile paling.

“No, Peter,” she sighs, and she wraps an arm tightly around him, pulling him closer. “That’s why I brought it up. I wanted to apologize. I am sorry for saying those things.” She swallows. “I accept your apology, too, though. I know you didn’t mean the things you said either.”

His jaw slacks, his eyes widen as fresh tears brim in them. A thousand emotions process in his eyes. He bites his quivering lip, and nods frantically.

“Yeah – Yeah, I was a bit of a dick. I’m sorry about that. I shouldn’t let anything come between us or our family like that again. To be fair, I had my ass handed to me, so I guess that kinda makes it even.”

Gamora shakes her head. She didn’t wish for those circumstances – never in a thousand years. Peter didn’t deserve any of those things.

Her fingers curl around his side, lightly kneading into it. That seems to soothe him as he relaxes under her touch. She brings her other hand up to brushes away his tears threatening to spill over. She offers him a reassuring half-smile.

“You and I both know that wasn’t your punishment. You didn’t deserve that, Peter.”

“I…” He goes quiet, then. Only the sounds of him choking back his sobs escapes him, settles into small and pitiful whimpers as the tears fall down his cheeks.

A part of her knows he’s fighting the urge to argue it, but the sensitive topic seems to withdraw him into his thoughts, pushes him into crying. It’s still overwhelming for him. Gamora understands.

She shifts their position, where he’s more tucked under her arm, brings the hand that was kneading into his side up against his neck to rub it and play with the stray curls resting against it. Peter’s fingers hook into the back of her shirt, clinging to her as if it keeps him from fading.

Gamora looks up at the night sky, returning to the past along with Peter for a few moments. She tries not to dwell on the past, but sometimes it can’t be helped. Ego is a traumatizing point in all their lives, but especially for Peter. A lot of things sprouted from it. Some good – she looks back down at Peter, curled in her arms like he’s meant to be there – and some bad. Like these awful memories washing over the both of them. That conflict was easily the worst in their time together – even worse than their physical fight back on Xandar so long ago. Physical fights are easy to return from, but emotional, verbal ones…

And she can’t begin to fathom what would’ve happened if Peter hadn’t returned to her alive. She quickly dismisses the notion. She’s just glad that –

“I am glad that we had a chance to apologize,” she tells him aloud. Because how would she live with herself knowing those were some of the last moments with Peter? Save for the excruciating battle they all had to endure, but that time was limited. Not as precious. All she would be able to think of was the fight beforehand, and if he had iced over like Yondu.

Her eyes begin to sting with her own tears. Peter is always so reckless. Their unspoken thing would’ve remained unspoken had Yondu not been there to save him. And that – that is just so unfair. It’s not fair that he takes half of her heart each time they go into battle.

“Me too,” he replies, but his eyebrows knit in worry. He brings his own hand up to cup her cheek. “Hey, what’s wrong?”

She gazes at him silently, relishes in his soft touch, the way his calloused hand is a stark contrast to her soft skin. She relishes in the sound of his voice, the sound of his breathing, the sound of music filling the air around them as it always does when Peter is around. She indulges herself, staring in his bright eyes, awestruck by the way the stars reflect in them. A sense of clarity sweeps over her as she melts at his nose and cheeks that are red from the surge of tears that briefly escaped him.

Gamora loves Peter – she’s told him countless times. But as they recall on all of these things, it becomes clear to her how much she does.

“Peter, I…”

He turns his head slightly, curiously like he always does, and it stops her heart mid-beat. She loves him more than words can say. She presses a soft kiss to his forehead, letting her lips linger there.

Perhaps their unspoken thing is just that – their love something beyond spoken words.

Or sometimes it comes in something like an apology.

“I am sorry. For everything.” He didn’t deserve any of it.
