Bellara is down. Lucanis is down. Solas is bleeding, his breath rasping. Elgar’nan is on the ground of the Archon’s throne room, stained with blood and blight, and it would take but a single solid blow. The lyrium dagger is clutched in his hand as he drags himself forward, staring at the tyrant who would blight the world.

At his god.

This close he cannot deny what, who he is. He is the herald of Elgar’nan, who has ruined countless lives on his god’s behest, for his god’s favour. He is his favoured lover and he remembers the countless ways he has ruined him, giving him everything he could want and more. He is his master, his discipline harsh but fair, making him stronger.

He is his enemy. He has killed so many people, ruined so many lives. He is blighted and blunt and dangerous even now and he is terrified of what he will do for the loss of his archdemon if he survives this. Of how he will make his friends, him, pay.

His breath rasps in his chest, pain radiates through his entire body, and he lifts the dagger. Elgar’nan looks up at him and he cannot look away.

“It is not your fault,” he says. His breath catches. “Da’len, you were dreadfully misled. The Dread Wolf cannot be trusted. You knew that, once- and he knew you did not in this time. What poison he whispered in your ear.” He sounds sympathetic, even. “He did not allow you to grieve. He forced you into a role you were never meant to fill.” His hands have fallen as Elgar’nan speaks, speaks directly to the part of him that yearns to please him. That yearns to be his. That he’s fought so hard. He sets his shoulders and lifts them again.

“I can’t let you do this,” he says and can hear the desperation in his own voice. Elgar’nan holds out a hand.

“Give it to me. Return to my side, my herald.” He nearly falls to his knees at the order, his fingers loosening on the hilt. He needs to take this blow. He has to. Elgar’nan’s gaze is steady. “You fought so bravely.” He lifts his hand to wrap around Alero’s, on the hilt of the dagger, and places the other on his cheek. He doesn’t remember the last time he breathed. “Now deliver my vengeance once more.” He turns his body to face Solas, struggling to his feet, bloody and bruised. The memories pulse through him, released from the barriers he’s tried to erect around them. His contentment, the purpose of service. The pleasure of reward. Knowing that he is valued for who is. He sways, leaning back into his god’s arms as exhaustion threatens to take him, and then suddenly he is awake.

“See, Fen’Harel,” his god says as his back straightens, his dagger held confidently and an immense, familiar hand curls around his hip, “What it is to rule.” His god releases him and he does not hesitate to obey the unspoken order, surging forward.

“No,” Fen’Harel begins, raising a hand, “You are better than-” he does not get a chance to finish his words. Blood splatters the ground and all over him and he hears his god, his lord standing behind him. Feels a wordless pull that he obeys as he falls to his knees before him. His god’s enormous hand rests atop his head.

The world stands still.

The blood on his hands and torn armour doesn’t matter. The uncertainty that has plagued him for as long as he remembers is gone. He wants to tip his head up, to see his god- but to be touched by him is so- his presence fills his awareness, is the only thing that’s ever mattered to him. His breath rasps as his body heals and trembles with a very different need, urgent and at the same time utterly irrelevant. He wants- he needs-

A hand tips his chin up and he stares, transfixed.

“Very good, my herald,” his god says and warmth fills his entire body. “Now help me to fix this world.” His hand lifts, the lyrium dagger presented. He can hear his god’s smile in his voice. “No- this honour falls to you.”

I am kicking my feet once again. This AU provides so much potential tragedy, and an ending like this would be devastating. Even after his memories were returned, Alero continued to try to fight all the way to the end. Even managing to fight his god to the bloody, victorious end. Only to stumble at the final hurdle and cave. Elgar'nan just knows all too well what to say to break his herald. Imagine all of the allies gathered, the people sacrificed, all to give this chance to defeat Elgar'nan, only for this to be the outcome. The best ending for Elgar'nan, and his herald will be happy to once again serve his god, but rest in peace the rest of Thedas.

karus and adrienn share a positive, person-first attitude. adrienn is more optimistic about it, but i think xe would envy karus' ability to slow down and work for people individually.

depending on circumstances, titania and star would either murder each other or be besties.

glasya doesn't like people so much. i see him focusing more on the pokemon. someone who's equally and sensitive shy might work out, like shelly.

now onto the slightly sad news: I don’t foresee me ever finishing tmagr. I tend to enter and exit fandoms in a super cyclical way, and some of them are recurring/annual/bi-annual/etc., and some of them end up having a temporary place in my life. BNHA/MHA seems to have been a temporary one, because I never really fell in love with it again the way I fell in love with it the first time when I started writing tmagr back in 2020.

Onto the slightly good news: I have a few chapters ready that I never posted, and did have a ton of notes on my plans for tmagr, and I am planning on posting all of that sometime in the future so folks will have at least a somewhat-finished product. I gotta clean them up and get them readable and then hype myself up to probs disappoint a lot of ppl by posting said notes rather than Actual Content, and I also have some pretty serious shit I’m dealing with that taxes my energy a ton, so I don’t make any promises for that happening any time soon - but while I’ve had eternal WIPs plenty of times before, it bugs me that I left tmagr in the place that I did and I know I want those damn notes posted for everyone who said such nice things about tmagr and enjoyed it so much and always made my day when I saw comments/etc. on it

the quills sticking up is not consistent cuz it depends on how much he gives a shit about looking clean-cut on any given day

silver only really used the emeralds in '06 and that one time in the metal virus arc of IDW (if he's used them more than that don't spoil me on it LOL im still getting through the comics) so his influence is not as strong as the other 2. it comes through mostly in personality (generally pleasant, socially inept)

starlight exists in strict juxtaposition against the other hedgehogs because unlike all 3 of them they literally were created for no purpose other than to exist. hence she has a weaker sense of self than silver or shadow and especially sonic. it's fun to think of them raising a kid and having to manually instruct them how to enjoy living

hypothetically has access to chaos powers like her "dads" but since chaos energy is also literally her molecular makeup she basically falls apart if she uses it too much, hence the inhibitors

also i say "dads" but the only one of the 3 who really acts parental towards them is shadow (more on that later)

will we get the chance to roleplay as evil character in Starlight? one of the few things I disliked about Reborn is that it practically forces us to be a goody two-shoes. for example, I really wanted to push Solaris down the cliff, but no matter what I tried it wasnt possible. please give players the option to make evil choices.

so... to answer the direct question, starlight is not going to be the same sort of self-insert roleplay game that reborn enables through having a silent protagonist. i'm telling a specific story about specific characters with starlight. that said, one of those we've met already in Star, and we already know she's not exactly goody two-shoes by vibe, so you might appreciate her anyway.

...but speaking in terms of choices with reborn, like. I wouldn't call not going out of your way to kill a character being goody-two shoes. i also think that the scope and freedom of choices you're expecting with something like that is not super practical-- at least now with a game as large as reborn.

but is that even an "evil" choice? i tend to view the good vs evil alignment as a spectrum of selfless vs selfish. 'evil' in itself is a loaded, meaningless word. i'm not really interested in telling a story with a shallow view of morality like that. the sort of choices i am most interested in are like with taka at the WTC. what even is the 'good' choice there, i still wonder? I'd like to ask more questions like that.

It sounds like what you want is not just "evil" choices, but violent choices. This is not the game for that, I don't see myself making a game like that, and I'd encourage you to question why you want that.

So I've said this regarding the ending a few times already but since we are so close to it, it bears repeating.

It is a good ending. And for Lumina specifically I would argue it is technically a happy ending. Honestly I think she gets the best ending out of everyone.

I don't make it a habit of confirming things, however, that is exactly what happened. I was actually going to end the ch with her staying up until sunrise but the line about moonlight is very important to.

The real question with that whole scenario is why (in a general sense) and what happens because of that. She hurts him in a big way (Intentional or not you decide) He hurts her in a big way (Intentional or not you decide). What happens now? I guess we'll see.
