Athena's Backstory
Born on J'Pem at the Monastery about 100 years after The Burn, her parents were away on a diplomatic mission to help further pacify the relationship between Vulcans and Romulans. They died when their ship suddenly lost all power in the middle of warp. She was still on J'Pem at that time since it was supposed to be a quick mission.
She then got raised at the monastery by Vulcans.
At the age of 5, she started losing sight until she became completely blind, only vaguely seeing light. She categorically refused any cybernetic prosthetics to restore her eyesight. She's been quite a stubborn little girl and the Vulcans of the monastery had long learned to accept her decisions as the right ones for her (since they've quite always been so anyway...).
She agreed to get equipped with a camera and an in-ear com device that tells her what is around her, to "see" but she never really sees anything other than the images she creates in her head from the words she hears (like many do when reading a book). She often doesn't use it as it distracts her from the signal her other senses give her.
She's heard so many stories about explorers from before The Burn that she's wanted to join their ranks. It was her favourite bedtime stories growing up!
As she grew old, she's wanted to join Starfleet (even though it didn't exist anymore...). And when she heard they were reopening it, she really set her mind to it. Her guardians were not necessarily keen on it but they knew to let her make her own choices. When she passed the preliminary round at 20, she left for the Academy entrance exams.
Since Earth is only slowly reopening itself to the Federation, she knows she'll almost be the only human in her cohort (that is if she makes it...) The state of disorganisation of the Federation also means that not too many want to join Starfleet at this present time, but the youngs are more and more dreaming of experiencing more so there is more and more applicants each years...

Solo Play TTRPGs are perfect for playing as a System! As a lot of us are Trekkies we really enjoy Star Trek Adventures: Captain's Log it's got a lot of tables and other streamlined features so nobody has to DM if they don't want to! Our current Captain is Captain Moara of the USS Babbage. They're a System and we each play a Headmate! Currently we're trying to mount a rescue mission in Borg Space.
they should invent a hobby for plurals
(we are so bored please drop suggestions)

Personal Log
Star Date: 75010.2
I return to duty after three months of intensive integration and recovery on Trill at the Symbyosis Commitee Campus.
Well, one month tense negotiation and interrogation followed by two months of intensive recovery.
Sonan's death was--still is unthinkable. However it was no question that in that moment I would accept Baz, the symbiont. To turn him away would be to turn away Sonan and seven other souls. To not accept would be against everything I worked for as a qualified Host. To protect them in times of crisis is an honor, even if temporarily. Re-association would not be tolerated long term. I knew this.
I did not know that Baz was not onboard with 'temporary'. The first feeling I remember was relief. Not quite mine, not quite not-mine. Then an overwhelming rush of resolution. I knew then that Penn Te'are was gone. That my name was Penn Baz. My husband and former host Sonan Baz was dead.
And this was not going to go over well.
To their credit, The Symbiosis Commission was only doing their job. They were persistent that I should relinquish Baz. It was not too late by medical standards. And, truth be told, I might have agreed, if it wasn't for the insistence of Baz bubbling within me that this was what was wanted. After a month of tense negotiations, the committee was forced to agree. A representative of Starfleet was called to perform a mind meld with the symbiont. It expressed that this experience was highly prized for this individual symbiont, irrelevant of the hosts. While I'm not sure yet if I myself completely agree, I accept this honor and adventure. Even if it complicates my grief...
After some integrations and orientation, I was deemed fit to return to duty. I was not to return to The Valentine and reassigned to The Hardaway with orders pending. 820 personnell, heavy weaponry and regenerative hull, I'm pretty sure we aren't about do be doing milk runs. Suits me fine. You don't become Starfleet for the mundane.
The crew is definitely an interesting mix.
The only one I've been able to meet personally thus far is my 'Number One'. Commander Orlal Oronat had been kind enough to provide me with a detailed report regarding my senior staff. She seems most adept at maintaining morale onboard. She has also populated my calendar with crew events and organizations. Goodness. For a ship with no family support, it seems that we do not lose the ability to care for our crew.
Captain Kovek. Helmsman. I'll say I'm shocked. The Vulcan who performed our mind meld doesn't captain his own vessel; He is flying mine? Not a coincidence clearly, but I'll leave it. His service record is nigh legendary. Replimat talk is that he outstripped a Vesta in a Galaxy class. Let them "observe" me, I look forward to seeing his performance.
Let's see, Chief Engineer. LT. Commander D'yan Jrooi. He's just completed a fellowship the Daystrom institute hosted by Temporal Affairs. I'll admit to being curiously disturbed. Something about Daystrom and time evokes the sound of the Prime Directive shattering. I'll keep an open mind, I imagine that a Sikaran is more interested in automation than auto distruct.
Lt. Commander Niri. Oh..a Tamarian. A freshly minted Chief Science Officer. Exolinguistics specialty. It seems she's working on a Standard Tamarian for Terrans as a part of her continuing studies. Per her status update the project is "Mother-in-Law, her visit extended". I guess that means "a nightmare".
Dr. Fuya has recently taken over the position of Chief Medical officer. He's by all accounts an exceptionally well loved man. Glowing recommendations from the Kais overseeing the orphanages on Bajor and commendations from Starfleet medical for courage under fire. There's some mention here of ruffled feathers due to the current organization overhaul in Sickbay. It seems the doctors impeccable bedside manner may be reserved for the patients.
Let's see, and to round it all out my Tactical Officer, Commander Sivalaa Maata has recently returned to ship duty after completing an intensive security training detail with former KDF and Ex-Borg Personnel. Her file also shows various leaves and assignments to all corners of known space. Though I'm seeing a conspicuous absence of Orion or her larger colonies in that list.
All told, it appears we are well suited to handle whatever Starfleet wants to throw us into. We've got one more night in space dock before receiving our orders and it seems that everything is running smoothly. I'll spend some time unpacking before I make my rounds and get familiarized with the faces.
Sonan, I'm not so sure that we should be doing this. I really hope this isn't a giant mistake. Of course, if it is a giant mistake, at least it's a historic one. Who doesn't like making history?
Right....big smiles everyone in there. Here we go.

Captain's Log, Stardate String of Numbers
So I decided to play some Captain's Log after my copy arrived! Here's my character, let's dive right into adventure #1!
Lieutenant Ngered, an Orion Executive Officer on the Miranda-Class (NCC-1899) USS Repulse in the year 2271. He was born in an environment of struggle and hardship which taught him Every Scrap Has Value, as he grew up without much to his family's name at the lower ends of Orion society. He was eventually able to get out of this with his parents' help as his desire To Create led him to Starfleet despite his people's lack of good relations with the Federation. He went into the Operations Track and during this time he was part of a field assignment that discovered a previously lost religious artifact. Specifics unsure. Regardless, he also received special commendations for saving the life of a teach at the academy after a device malfunctioned and would've killed them if not for the knowledge his rougher upbringing gave him on how to treat such wounds.
His Attributes and Disciplines are: Control 8, Daring 10, Fitness 9, Insight 11, Presence 10, Reason 8 - Command 3, Conn 1, Security 3, Engineering 5, Science 2, Medicine 2.
And his focuses are in: Structural Engineering, Ship Engagement Tactics, Emergency Repairs, Computer Science, Spirituality, and Emergency Medicine.
His Values are: "Every Scrap Has Value", "A Quick Fix is Better Than No Fix", "I Represent Orions With My Actions", and "Starfleet Gives me Purpose."
His Captain is a (joined) Trill male by the name of 'Arjen Kyl'
And Season 1 Episode 1 "New Beginnings" begins! Rolled the following up on matrixes: Mission Type: Research and Development - Navigational System with the theme being 'Debate + Living Ship & Temporal Anomaly.' An advantage in the area is 'Inspiring Vista' which inspires the crew to work hard to preserve it. Unsure how it'll come up, but good to know. Additionally, for an additional detail an Uninhabited Planet that is primordial and full of enourmas predators is generated. Not sure if it'll come up, but decided to roll up a name for the system as a result of this. The Hoppopu system. Which I then decided was a system an unnamed species nearby that isn't in the Federation values religiously in some fashion.
"XO's Log, November 10th 2271. A week prior the USS Bismark was sent to the Hoppopu system to test a navigational array due to the unique conditions there that should have run the gamut of what might be done, however our captain has recently been ordered to investigate. Their distress beacon apparently was sounded, and the scant details provided did not paint a picture of good hope."
The Mission Tracker is the standard 5 Scenes per act. Though I might change this up if things progress quickly.
Scene 1
The USS Repulse arrives at the edge of the system, the captain orders a course towards the last known location of the USS Bismark. Ngered recommends and is given the chance to have sensors scan the system. It was of course Highly Probable there would be no issue scanning for other ships and oddly enough the sensors seem to pick up what appears to be a life sign the size of a the Bismark nearby to where the Bismark herself is, though it appears the latter is no longer space-worthy.
Captain Kyl orders the Repulse into yellow alert as it approaches. Ngered however feels that more could be done and with permission, orders a direct scan of the ship itself. He rolls Insight + Science, and gets 12 and 1. He succeeds at the task, and discovers that the sensors are not wrong as the ship gets close, on the viewscreen a large organic-looking ship of a vaguely familiar style comes into view as the data fills in. The lifesign isn't just some creature. It's an entire ship, filled with a crew. And based on the design, Ngered notes it looks like the species that consider this system holy. But, these people shouldn't have the technology to even attempt an organic ship, much less succeed at apparently disabling a Federation ship...
Scene 2
Generated a name for the species. The "Iwa'El." Generated the species since I'm at it. A humanoid body, Vertebrate Amphibian. Space Frogs. Anyways.
The Repulse goes into Red Alert before hailing the vessel despite the odd nature of things. A few moments go by before they respond, a distinctly Iwa'Elite visage though they appear to sport a prosthetic left arm and scarring across their face and upper body that's visible. They appear to be paranoid, and when the captain introduces himself and demands an explanation. It is probable the Iwa'El are liable to explain just what is going on. The opposing captain will explain that their crew encountered a strange anomaly in this system, their ship went down briefly, before they came into contact with the Bismark. They defended themselves after the Bismark opened fire, and are currently tending to their ship's wounds. The captain doesn't believe the Bismark would fire unprovoked, and informs the Iwa'El captain that he is going to send an away team over to the Bismark to rescue survivors and hopefully repair the ship and requests the ship not to leave. Despite their paranoia, they relent. Ngered is sent off with an away team consisting of engineers and medics, transporting over with EVA gear due to suspected hull breaches compromising a majority of the ship's atmosphere...

I had no idea you liked star trek too, I just knew you for smosh and Dan and Phil. That's so cool!! Would you be willing to write a little ianthony star trek au? Or have you already? No problem if not, I know that's kinda vague. Love your blog btw :)
Yes I LOVE Star Trek! I literally had so much fun writing this, it got a bit out of control LOL! But yeah I hope you like it!!
The logical choice
Words: 2,436
Genre: action/adventure, a Star Trek episode, first kiss
Rating: teen or general audiences
Read on AO3:
"Captain's log, stardate ???[writer's note: I can't do math!]. What would have been a diplomatic mission to Vulcan, a completely safe route, turned out to become something quite different. Ian was going to let our starship T'hy'la be blessed, and we would join a Vulcan fleet to covertly inspect the edges of Federation space. But all of a sudden, we were violently sucked into a wormhole, and were spat out, smack dab in the middle of the Delta Quadrant."
Anthony paused. He looked out of the window of his suite. He'd read a lot about Captain Janeway's voyages through this quadrant, and her years long quest to get back home. Panic stirred deep within him. He shut his eyes tightly and took a few deep breaths.
"We've been stranded here for a few days now. Chief Agnew, Ensign Bowe and their crew have been hard at work to repair the damage done by the violent yanking through space that T'hy'la has endured. Our deflector shields malfunctioned and structural integrity scraped by within an inch of collapsing. I truly believe that a bout of fate has saved us."
His communicator chimed. It was a benign sound, but it still made him jump.
"Captain, we've done all we can. Technically the ship works, but we lost a lot of deuterium. We repaired the injection subsystem, Tommy really outdid himself. But it's no use, we can't start with this little fuel."
"Thank you, Spencer," Anthony answered, trying to sound comforting. "You've done well. it may be time for us to try and reach out for help."
The door beeped.
"Come in."
"Captain," Ian strode into the room.
Anthony's Number One, and a Vulcan, Ian somehow always calmed Anthony down. And it was better, the closer they stood to each other.
"Number One, please tell me what you think of the situation?"
"We have done short- and long range scans, and have found no life-forms or ships. However," Ian raised one sharp eyebrow, "We did scan a gaseous nebula. It's all around us and could be the reason our sensors didn't pick anything up. Although it is not without risk, logic suggests we send out a distress signal."
"Agreed." Anthony sighed. Who knows what kind of aliens were out and about here, but they might as well try.
~
"Amanda, what's the matter?" Mister Topp, the ship's EMH, asked with kind, light-blue eyes.
"Shayne, I feel something big," she collapsed dramatically on a medical bed in the sickbay. "It's something I've never felt before, and you know I sense almost anything, being quarter Betazoid. "I- I don't know. It's not good, but also not evil. It's just... something infinite, almost. Like an ultimate power. It makes me dizzy."
"Well," Shayne smirked, "Courtney was just here, and her ego does tend to be infinitely big. I guess her Klingon side gives her the extra confidence." He sighed. "But she could be a bit nicer to me."
"Shayne," Trevor intervened. "You were flirting with her the entire time. She wasn't even here for a medical exam. She just checked in on us to see if everything was safe and you insisted she take three different blood tests! I'd be annoyed too," he laughed.
"I wish I could sense how you're feeling," Amanda beamed at Shayne. "But I can't sense a hologram. I do know how Courtney feels, though..." She winked at Shayne, who blushed.
"Amanda, it seems like you're back to normal. Please report back here if that changes again. Bye now!"
"Not without my hug," she teased.
"Why do Betazoids always want to hug!"
"I think it's just her," Trevor giggled.
"Get in here!" Amanda commanded. After the group hug, she went back to her Ship's counsellor's office.
Her communicator chimed.
"Hello commander Hecox," she smiled, as she sat down and crossed her legs over the couch, usually reserved for her patients.
"Counsellor Lehan-Canto. We need to talk."
~
Keith, the ship's Conn officer, observed the Bridge while captain Padilla was resting. He had never thought he'd be this far from home, but there he was, in the Delta Quadrant. Strangely, he wasn't worried. He looked at the beautiful multicolored nebula outside.
Suddenly, he got a transmission request.
"Captain, to the Bridge, we're being hailed!"
Not a moment later, Anthony walked in. "On screen," he commanded.
"WELL WELL WELL," a grinning, huffing alien said to them. "WHAT HAVE WE HERE!!! A NICE STARFLEET SHIP, NO LESS! "WHAT ARE YOU DOING SO FAR FROM HOME?"
"This is captain Anthony Padilla of the starship T'hy'la. I assume you received our distress call."
"WE SURE DID, RIGHT, GUYS?" the alien looked at two very beautiful and scantily-clothed people on each side of her.
"Oh yes, Angela, we sure did," one of them replied with a honey-sweet voice.
"YES, WE DID, CAPTAIN. LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF. I'M ANGELA, AND THESE ARE MY FRIENDS CHANSE AND ARASHA. And..." Angela lowered her voice menacingly, "you have invaded OUR space."
"We've been sucked into a wormhole against our will and are stranded here without deuterium. We could trade you for it, We have latinum on board. Don't Ferengi always like a good deal?
"HA! YOU THINK YOU KNOW THE FERENGI HUH! Yeah, we do always want a good deal. But I don't think you'll be able to give us one. Your starship is called T'hy'la? HA! What a weak Vulcan/human hybrid concept. Don't you know the Rules of Acquisition? Rule 21: Never place friendship above profit. So, my little FRIEND, why don't you give your ship to me, and I will send you on your way back to the wormhole?"
Anthony scoffed. "I'm sorry, but have you scanned our ship? We could easily defeat you."
"Well..." Angela smirked even wider, and scratched behind her enormous ear. "I guess I didn't make myself clear. If you DON'T give me your ship, you will be dealing with my friends. Not these idiots here," she gestured to Chanse and Arasha. "I mean them."
And in one moment, all hope left Anthony's soul: two large, square spaceships emerged. It was the Borg.
" HAHAHA! You have one hour to respond!"
Angela disconnected.
"Red Alert," Anthony commanded.
~
The sirens were wailing through the ship.
"Not Red Alert again? We just fixed up the entire ship!" Tommy threw up his hands in exasperation.
Spencer put his gloved hand on his shoulder. "I was really hoping we could go to the holodeck and play DnD again. But it's not in the cards for us this time."
"Sword and shield in hand," Tommy bumped his shoulder into Spencer.
"Saving the day, just like we do everyday at work!"
"Even though I never get a promotion!"
"You really should, Tommy."
They were play-fighting with their engineer gear, and seeing Spencer laugh and goof off, suddenly made Tommy realize something. He was in love with his boss.
"Hey, why'd you stop?" Spencer was still booping him with a pretend-sword.
"You're adorable."
"Dude. I know."
"I mean... I..."
"AB," Ian said, walking quickly past them.
"Did he make up a nickname for us?!" Tommy said, wide-eyed. "Do Vulcans do that?"
"I think Amanda has been teaching him to be more normal, I mean, better at communication. Not doing that is normal for a Vulcan, of course."
"Imagine them together in a room!" Tommy laughed. A Vulcan and a Betazoid, they couldn't be more opposite!"
"Well, if I can sense anything, it's that those two have some chemistry going on," Spencer said with a smug look on his face. "I mean, she calls everyone 'imzadi' but her voice is softer when she says it to Ian. Huh... But sorry, you were going to say something?"
"Oh..." Tommy blushed. "Nevermind..."
~
"Ian, what did you want to talk to me about?"
Amanda visited Ian's quarters. It was very clean and neat and indeed very Vulcan.
"Please, sit," Ian gestured to the one table in the room, with two small chairs.
They both sat down. Amanda couldn't help but feel attracted to Ian's stoic earnest. And he was cute, too...
"I heard you sensed a presence, ever since we've been stranded here."
"Yes! I have been, and it seems like it's getting stronger too! If that is even possible. It's like we're at the epicenter of something."
"I sense it too."
"You do?"
"Yes. We Vulcans might not show our emotions, but we feel a lot of things. And I have felt this once before. Amanda, we are in grave danger."
~
"Ia- Number One!" Anthony was so glad to see Ian as he walked onto the Bridge.
"We are very much outnumbered, captain," Ian said. "It would be logical to surrender."
Ian walked closer to Anthony. Anthony sighed in relief. Whatever would come next, he could bear it with Ian at his side.
"But I advice against it."
"What?"
"The Ferengi woman is the obvious culprit, luring ships here to loot and then let them be assimilated by the Borg. However... She is not the one in control here."
Ian and Anthony heard clapping behind them.
"Well done, commander Hecox," a woman with long black hair, dressed in all black, spoke.
"Who are you?" Anthony demanded.
"She is Q, the most powerful being in the universe."
"You know her, Ian?"
"I know her, from long ago. She called herself Olivia Sui then."
"And I kept my eye on you, Ian. I expected great things from you! And even though you are obviously the smartest one on this ship of idiots, you've become boring! You used to make me laugh, Ian..."
Anthony felt a sudden annoyance at this Q. Why was she so interested in his Number One?!
"What do you want, Q?"
"What do I want?! I want to laugh again, damnit! So," and she snapped her fingers, and the entire ship was gone. Instead, he, Ian and Amanda stood in an empty, white world. Angela, Arasha and Chanse were also there. "If you make me laugh first, I'll zap you straight home! But if not... then you're back at the mercy of Angela here."
Amanda, Anthony and Ian huddled together.
"So, is she an ex of yours or something?" Amanda whispered.
"We were betrothed once."
"What?!" Anthony fumed.
"Ha, your anger amuses me already, captain. But I'm not laughing just yet!"
Anthony looked straight at Q, and began to mime. Physical humor was his strong suit. He fell over, mimed that he was stuck, rolled over the ground... to no avail.
"You failed! Next!"
Angela walked forward.
"SO, HERE'S THE JOKE! TWO BARS OF LATINUM WALKED ACROSS THE STREET! AND ONE OF THEM SAID, LET ME WALK IN THE MIDDLE NOW"
"Elementary concept, expertly executed," Q said. "But not enough to make me laugh. NEXT!"
Amanda walked forward. She got really close to Q, and Anthony felt Ian tense up. He took his hand. Ian squeezed extremely hard. He probably forgot his Vulcan strength for a second.
Wait, did Ian care this much about Amanda? Were they- was Ian just dating everyone and Anthony didn't know it? He figured, he couldn't blame the girls. Ian was so handsome, so strong...
"I guess you don't know who I am," Amanda began. "I am the daughter of Deanna Troi and William Riker. That makes me one quarter Betazoid... and I sense that you don't want to laugh at all. You want to FEEL something. And I'll give it to you. I've reached a certain age, you know..." Amanda tip-toed her fingers up Q's arm.
"Give mommy a smooch!"
"Noo, no, get away from me!" Q took a few steps away.
"HA! THERE, YOU GIGGLED!"
"Did not!"
"I saw it! You laughed, Q!"
"Okay, fine, I did! But I'm not done just yet! I guess I will zap you and your stupid ship back home.... after.... THEY kiss."
"Who?"
"The captain and his Number One."
"What?" Ian and Anthony said in sync.
"Yeah, hahaha! That will really make my day! Don't tell me you haven't sensed it, Betazoid? They are all in."
Amanda looked down. She really liked Ian and he liked her too, but she knew that his heart belonged to his captain. On all their intergalactic adventures, Ian had saved Anthony so many times and vice versa, they had developed an unbreakable bond. They had never acted on it before, but now, apparently it was the only thing that would save them.
"So, you cooked up this whole charade, just to get them to kiss?"
"What? It's not a charade, I'm eternally bored, I had to think of something!"
Q walked up to Ian and Anthony. "Now, do the thing," she said, pressing her two index fingers together.
Ian looked at Anthony. The intense warmth of his brown eyes overwhelmed the Vulcan. He would normally never show it, in fact he had never given Anthony a clue that he was interested. But he was. All the times he had seen Anthony change clothes, when Anthony had hugged him after they were safe from danger, he had never reciprocated. But now, he had no choice.
"It's only logical that we do this. But I have to confess, Anthony... I've been longing for a kiss from you for an eternity. And I need to know if you're okay with it now."
Anthony blushed deeply. Was Ian just saying this because of the situation? Why did he make it more dramatic than it needed to be? "Ian... Have you really? I've loved you for such a long time... And I've also always wanted an opportunity to kiss you. But I never dared, I never thought it was appropriate, seeing as I'm your captain and all."
"Yes, you acted logically as well."
"Ian..."
Anthony took Ian's chin between his fingers and pushed it upwards.
"Excellent!" Q said, but they didn't hear her.
"Anthony..." Anthony saw a wild fire ignite between Ian's eyes. It was scary but Anthony wasn't afraid. He pressed his lips agains Ian's.
Ian growled and kissed him back, grabbing on Anthony's curls. Anthony couldn't believe the feeling. It was scorching hot, but so, so comfortable. He wanted to stay like this forever.
When he opened his eyes, they were back on the T'hy'la and back in the Alpha Quadrant.
"Are you okay, captain?"
Anthony looked at Ian. He could cry. Nobody remembered anything, except for him.
"I- I need to take a break..."
He walked off the bridge. As if by magic, Amanda was waiting for him there.
"Captain, I sensed your emotions, they quickly heightened. Do you want to talk about it?"
"I think that's best, Counsellor."
"Come on, I'll take you to my office."

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2, Episode 7: The Fast and the Curious
Dal's such a nerd, it's great.
This episode and the last work together in a very interesting way. They're both standard Trek plots fitted into the wider story, but they exist in entirely different contexts. Holodeck shenanigans and weird planet competitions can normally happen to the same ship - if this were two episodes of Voyager in a row I wouldn't bat an eye - but they require opposite extremes here. It's a reflection of what Prodigy is and how it's unique among Star Trek shows, and I like what it implies. 9/10.
To elaborate, this episode does a pretty Trek-standard plot, but it does it on the bones of so many other concepts. They get to the weird alien race via an abandoned Borg conduit, and the facility is run by Kazons, and there's a corrupted AI behind it all. It really does feel like something happening in the background of the Star Trek universe and it's better for it. I do think it's interesting that this episode plays the AI concept straight when Lower Decks has three separate "Evil AIs" all going through one form of therapy or another in its latest season, but I don't think that the overlap is intentional. If it is, that would be cool, it just doesn't feel deliberate from what I've seen so far.
There's also some fun Dal moments with him trying to record a captain's log but getting shut down by everyone else. In the moment, it feels like he's being nerdy and doing a log like Boimler would, but with the context of the last season it's a bit of an ego trip. It does feel tamer than it would have been last season, which is good character development.
During the race, we get some good moments of genuine fear from Rok and Jankom. Rok specifically says that the race isn't fun anymore, which is a good reminder that she is still a kid underneath everything amazing she's done so far. Rok also keeps bringing up Starfleet protocol, which feels like a good extension of her arc of trying to fit in, even if it is being eroded by being on another adventure on the Infinity with her friends.
I don't know what I thought was going to happen with the hologram duplicates on the ship. It didn't occur to me yesterday that we'd see them again and that they'd be such an obvious liability, but it's interesting that no one noticed but Maj'el. The Doctor just thinks that he's getting through to them, which is funny and in keeping with how this show's been using him, but does play into him having a massive ego, which I'm less fond of as an interpretation. Janeway not catching on could be a bit of the beat that she doesn't really know the main cast the way her hologram did, or just being distracted by running a starship and the impending plot of the reboot movies and finding Chakotay. I'm not sure if I want to assign meaning to that just yet, but I have theories.
I'm curious what they're going to do with Zero's shell being broken. It'll be cool to see where that goes, but it is a little sad to see them just dump her in a chair at the end. Also, is it just me or does she look like a Personality Core? I half-expect her to give me a portal gun and tell me to dodge the lava.

The Sentry
The Sentry https://ift.tt/4ugbVyT by SteamyEarlGray Lieutenant Green is the resident expert of the Enterprise on Memory Alpha, the Federation Library planet. He is overworked, dedicated, and work driven. To his coworkers, all he does is work, eat, and sleep. He is someone they can always turn to when their assigned ships have overly complicated adventures, after all, he manages to decode the mess the Enterprise sends in. The Sentry writes about the flagship of the Federation and its crew. They are clearly Starfleet personnel and fans of the adventurous entries into the living history encyclopedia. Their works are popular among most of the ensigns on Memory Alpha because of how they tend to insert lower-ranking crewmen into their adjusted Enterprise adventures. Hide and Seek pt 1
“You really haven’t played?” Captain Baz muttered, as they rearranged their hand a fourth time.
“Indeed” Commander Oronat smiled blithely. “When did you learn how to play?”
“Well,” Baz folded their hand down. “The short answer is that I learned to play as a cadet.”
“What is the long answer then?” Oronat inquired as she discarded a king. Her Second
“Val, Jonal and Sonan played before me”. Baz discarded the king of clubs.
“A veteran then.” Oronat quietly picked up the discarded king and set him in her hand, carefully discarding the 3 of hearts
“Something like that.” Baz sighed. I think we’re being hustled, pommablossom.  They picked up the three in kind and completed their collection.
- Bridge to Captain Baz
Lt Commander Niris voice filled the office.
“Baz here.”
“We’ve picked up a message in sub-space, Sir” The tamarians voice had an uncertain edge
“Something raising some flags, Lt Commander?” Baz leaned forward, discarding the Jack of clubs distractedly.
“Big red ones, sir”
“On our way.”
The link closed. Oronat and Baz stood, but not without Oronat cheekily laying a card face down across the discard pile, her hand face up with a two runs of Diamonds and Clubs.
“Gin. Right?”
Baz smiled briefly. “Exactly so, Number One.”
_________
The Bridge hummed with activity as the turbo-lift opened into it.
Baz strode in and beelined for the communications console.  Lt. Commander Niri  was tapping into a padd, flushed.
“We intercepted this embedded in subpace” she blurted, passing them a pair of padds.
That diplomat must have something figured out. They’ve sent messages to their counterparts in the Federation. We’re moving the time table up. Make the drop to the research station on Tau VI and get out of there before you go supernova like the rest of them.
Orlal looked up from the padd, Niri continued, already anticipating the next question.
“We’ve been able to trace it’s origin to the facility, but can’t get anything else at this range. I recommend we warp to sector”
Orlal agreed cautiously “We’d need to stay far enough out that we don’t ring the door bell”
“Captain Kovek” Baz called, crossing to the captains chair “Can you find me that sweet spot”
The vulcan was already performing the calculations
“Without question, Captain”
“Then let’s go peek in some windows.” Baz settled into their seat, leaning forward. “Action”

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 025 - A Strong Cold Open, and A Strong Cliff-hanger
Star Trek: Enterprise - Season 1 Episode 26 - Shockwave Part 1
Tumblr media
So, I'm finally at the end of season 1. This season has been a nice little introduction to the Star Trek universe, and it's been really nice learning about the wider key elements of the universe alongside the characters, which I don't think is something I would have experienced if I start with the Original Series.
On the advice in the replies, I am gonna tackle Shockwave as two separate posts because of the season break between the parts. I'm also partially motivated by the fact that by sheer coincidence there are two separate Doctor Who Universe stories called Shockwave, so covering the parts separately means I get to do a comparison segment for both of those. But, onto the episode: The Episode starts with the Enterprise sending the shuttlepod down to a colony planet, everything seems calm, but then suddenly as they descend, the planet is suddenly engulfed in fire and explosions. Which is a hell of a way to cold open an episode.
It immediately seems pressing to figure what the fuck just happened. The Colony is just gone. Dead. The crew immediately notice things aren't adding up. It's looking like the shuttlepod's plasma exhausts ignited the explosion, but all logs indicate the plasmaducts were closed with no leaks.
The writing on Archer in this episode was great. He really felt like he carried the weight of just accidentally killing 3 and half thousand people.
Starfleet and the Vulcans shut down the Enterprise's mission. It's looking like the End of the Road. Seeing everyone's reactions to that news is interesting. Phlox's never ending optimism that new adventuring opportunities will present themselves, Trip taking the combative "The Vulcans will use this to hold us back" stance, Travis not really knowing if anything will live up to being aboard Enterprise. And, the highlight, T'Pol trying to convince Archer to fight back against the decision. She masks that as "It is your duty as captain to present your case", but really she's grown attached to the crew, she just isn't ready to admit it.
After that attempt at being convinced, Archer hits the bed, and is instantly sent back in time by Daniels, the Temporal Cold War future guy from Cold Front. Which means, whatever happened to the colony: It's related to the Temporal Cold War. The Explosion wasn't supposed to happen. This is finally what kicks Archer into action. With help from Daniels, and some previous readings from Malcolm, evidence of sabotage was found, and the crew start moving to take down the Suliban ship that sabotaged the shuttle
This was a great Season Finale. Seeing everyone working on top form with the future of the whole mission at stake was excellent, and the action sequence of T'Pol, Archer and Trip moving to get proof of sabotage from the Suliban Stealth Ship held me captive.
Shadowy Future Guy showed up again. There still isn't much on his specific motives, but now plans to kidnap Archer. I really want to know more about our main villain's motivation. Being an elusive mystery is fine early on, but an elusive mystery with no answers or even clues gets old quick.
Our cliff-hanger leading into Season 2 is Archer sacrificing himself over the Suliban to save Enterprise. He gives command over to T'Pol. This scene was honestly kind of sad. It genuinely brought a tear to my eye. Then to find as he left the bridge, Daniels throws him into the future, to find an apocalyptic wasteland, leaving the Suliban to attack enterprise. This is a heavy cliff-hanger. I genuinly can't even begin to predict how Archer is gonna get back to his own time. Daniels' time equipment is gone, he's stuck in the dead future. And the Enterprise itself is about to be shot down with no chance of escape.
I am really looking forward to seeing how this is resolved. I can't wait, and I only have to wait a day, I can't begin to imagine how it must have felt to wait a whole season gap for the conclusion.
Comparing my Enjoyment of this Episode with a Doctor Who Universe Story of the Same Title
Doctor Who: Destiny of the Doctor - Part 7: Shockwave
Tumblr media
So, the Destiny of the Doctor anthology was a set of 11 short hour long audiobooks, one with each doctor, released in 2013 in the lead up to the show's 50th Anniversary. I don't know how seriously Trekkies take their show's anniversaries, but in the Doctor Who fandom we go wild with anniversary fever, especially back when the 50th rolled around. There was so much content released 2013 celebrating the shows history. I could talk about Destiny of the Doctor as a whole for a while, but really I'm only here to talk about one of it's stories.
Shockwave, the 7th story in DoD was in theory supposed to be sort of a quintessential celebration of the 7th doctor era and all of it's elements. In a lot of ways, it is very much is a very Season 26 7 and Ace Story. The Doctor takes Ace to a planet which's star is set to explode due to a spatial anomaly and is throwing out a lethal shockwave of Artron energy (In Doctor Who, that means Time Travel radiation). To Quote the Doctor, "We can't help them. It's already too late."
I'm gonna skip most of the plot summary stuff here, because this is already a long post.
To those of you who aren't familiar with Who, the Seventh Doctor is an interesting character. He often keeps his companions in the dark about his actual plans, sometimes to the point of being a manipulator, and that is definitely what happens here. The story is narrated from Ace's perspective, separated from the Doctor who is working away in the Shadows. Shockwave is a good example of a 7 and Ace story. Enjoyable, but because of the nature of what it is, it doesn't try to do anything new with the characters. I like 7 and Ace's character dynamic, but stories like this really make you long for the more emotionally charged stories where Ace finally snaps over the 7th Doctor's bullshit. That said, even without that kind of occasional plot beat from Ace that I love, this story still writes her really well. Her personal character arc in this one is really really well done.
As with all of the DoD stories, The Eleventh Doctor briefly steps in for a cameo that only begins to make sense when you get to the final story in DoD. It's one of the better DoD 11th Doctor cameos, certainly less intrusive than the one in the 4th Story.
Both Enterprise's Shockwave (Part 1) and Destiny of Doctor's Shockwave are enjoyable, but on the whole I would give the edge to Enterprise here for being more of a standout within it's on series. Enterprise's Shockwave was higher stakes than normal, it was. DoD Shockwave was just another "7 doesn't clue Ace in on his plans" story in a sea of other "7 doesn't clue Ace in on his plans" stories. A very good one of those, but with nothing that would make me recommend it over the other good examples of the 7 and Ace dynamic.

Notes:
Headcanon that D.A. used to cut holes in all her hats when she was younger. During the first few field trips, she would always cut the holes herself, but it wasn't long before Ms. Frizzle realized D.A. had a particular fashion sense and set the outfit-maker on the bus to "always put two pigtail holes in D.A.'s hats."
At least 12 of D.A.'s outfits accomodate for her hairstyle.
My personal favorites for Dorothy Ann's alternate outfits are: Star Trek uniform, detective outfit, butterfly safari outfit, and starry pajamas.

Star Trek T-shirt and brown cargo pants with a denim patch on the right leg. I’m also wearing black tennis shoes and a blue wristwatch on my right wrist, since I’m left handed.
I am also wearing a Fanny pack, a water bottle carrier, and a camera bag. The Fanny pack has a magnifying glass, a captain’s log, and some field guides.
I’d say this is very representative of my style: always ready for adventure.
what are you wearing rn and is it representative of your style
