I'M OFFICIALLY OLD & I DON'T LIKE IT
@albrechtstarkarm
@elderberriesandarsenic @bitter1stuff
@gifsbysimplysonia
@allhailthe70shousewife
The abundance of technology and lack of humanity causes a longing for the past makes me feel like a fucking Luddite!
(Continue to read for Gen X bitching)
For the last couple of years, I have not been able to see that well through my current classes prescription. Every time that I would come close to getting a new prescription, I would face another eye surgery.
After the Corneal transplant, my surgeon refused to give me another prescription until a year had passed. Because, he said my eyes were changing too rapidly. In the meantime, I cannot see with this prescription at all. I only live about 7 blocks from my school and yet driving there every morning is. Terrifying, because I cannot see well enough. Every time I would go back for a checkup. I would beg the surgeon for refraction. Finally, the last time I wore the surgeon down and he said while he would not provide it. I was welcome to go to one of those cheap eyeglass places and get a temporary pair.
The place where I live does not have one of those places.
And it takes an act of God to get hubby to take me anywhere. So we waited until we were taking a trip to sea his mom, my MiL, four hrs away during Spring Break. And in an unfathomable display of generosity, he offered to take me on the way back to get my glasses.
We stop in Odessa and as luck would have it, there was a Stanton. Optical across the street from our hotel.
I go in and am given an iPad where apparently I have to write down my entire medical history by answering questions in a font so smallI cannot see it because my glasses are crappy.
It blew my mind that a place that people go to because they can't see was making people fill out their own paperwork on. Technology that was so small.
After playing around with it and having my information LIST 3 TIMES &HAVING TO START OVER, I figured out that I could adjust the font size---- but no one told me this.
In the end I had to just hand it over to my husband and have him fill it out!! All of this would have been completely avoided if they had an option for paper. RED FLAG #1
Because I didn't have an appointment. I waited about an hrs & a half. As people were going ahead of me, I am noticing the very young attendant that is taking them into the exam room is asking every single person the exact same saying set of questions quite robotically.
RED FLAG #2
Finally is my turn and as soon as I walk into the exam room red flags are going off AGAIN because nothing in that room looks like what you would need for a glasses refraction.
RED FLAG #3
As someone who has had to go to an ophthalmologist three times a year since the age of 5 ,I know these things.
So the girl who starts bounding off her questions. Did I want glasses or contacts?
How many hours did I spend in one of the computer?
I told her 5.
About 30 seconds later she says "Okay. So you say you spend about 10 hours in front of the computer?"
RED FLAG #4
I didn't bother to correct her and then she starts telling me about all the different type of lenses they have, so I ask her how much those lenses would cost and she tells me that she doesn't know. But after I get my prescription, I can discuss that with people up front.
So you only have one job --that you do with as much passion as an android and you know nothing about the other parts of your organization?
RED FLAG #5
She then tells me she needs to take a measurement of my eye, which I would understand for contacts but i'm getting glasses and i'm not sure she understood me when I told her this the first time.
So she tells me to look into this machine, which I've looked into many, many times and each time that I have. They have put the picture in focus for me.. This time the picture state blurry
The girl then announces that the machine could only take a measurements of NORMAL eyes and since I'd had so many surgeries & eyetrauma, it could not take a measurement of mine. And I would have to be referred to a doctor.
I'm thinking okay......... well where is he?
"Oh, there is no Doctor actually here because we don't do actual glasses examinations, we just do virtual glasses ambinations.
WTF IS A VIRTUAL EXAM???
Anyway, that's when I left.

Hybrid Eye care exam| Stanton optical
Let me start by saying, I dislike having my eyes redone by a hybrid eye doctor. If you do not know what this means is that the doctor that you go to the eye doctor like normal, you are greeted with the lady that control the machines like the air puffer, the camera, and the one where you have to look in to to see the house. That is normal. Although they did not dilate my eyes to get a good measure they used a camera. Then you are escorted to a room where you see the doctor... A doctor or assistant that is on a TV monitor.
You are looking into a mirror that has a TV behind you and you are on camera. Everything is remote controlled. They put the goggles on you and you are going through and looking at a mirror that is reflecting a TV screen trying to figure which is better and which you can see. The thing is, this should not happen. You should have an actual doctor there controlling it. Remotely controlling it, you cannot get an actual reading and this can cause a lot of problems in the long run including having to go to a different office to get your eyes redone and spending more money. Luckily, offices should be able to take your new glasses and just put new lenses on them.
You should not be looking at a mirror into the screen trying to get an accurate reading because the mirror is magnified and this can alter your vision because your vision will be doubled and can cause a lot of things when they put it on the lenses. This causes blurring, magnification and a bunch of other things.
Just because they are cheap, does not mean they are doing it correctly and this can give you all kinds of wrong readings and can end up damaging your eyes.
Yes, if you ask, I can see through them however doing every day chores and trying to work has become a hassle including going from light to dark to light. I thought my eyes are trying to adjust but I got another pair of glasses from the exam and changed out thinking that something could be wrong with the ones I was wearing hoping it does not cause as much as the other ones does but truthfully, This is not right because I am having trouble seeing up close now but when originally my issue was far away. I am not getting dizzy spells and headaches in which I expect that but not this much.
I could see when they gave me my glasses but now it is a hassle even trying to write this.
Please, read the reviews and trust your intuition when it comes to your health.
So I am out of $129 twice because I got an exam and my husband also got an exam and he is also having trouble.
So now I am going to have to find a place to get another eye exam and see if they can use the frames I got from the first one.
Another thing is my eyes are foggy and cloudy trying to look around without the glasses and I never had this effect before and truthfully this sucks. Everything is doubled trying to even look down at my keyboard and laptop and because of this I reverted back to my old glasses and when I take them off, I do not have the fog like I did so the new ones are way way way to strong.

Optometry Research:
The first of the women I will be interviewing on my Working Women podcast series will be an optometrist who has recent purchased her own practice and is a working mother to young children.
Below is my research on the profession and it's history as a male-dominated field.
Optometry has a rich history, dating back to the invention of the first wearable glasses in Italy during the 13th century. Key milestones in the field include Johannes Kepler's 15th-century discovery about how light enters the eye and forms on the retina, laying the foundation for understanding various visual impairments. This knowledge eventually led to the development of corrective lenses, such as concave lenses for nearsightedness and convex lenses for farsightedness. Benjamin Franklin's invention of bifocals in the 18th century further revolutionised the field by allowing individuals to see both near and far with one pair of glasses. In the 19th century, the ophthalmoscope was developed, enabling practitioners to see inside the eye, and the Snellen chart, invented in 1862, became a staple of eye exams. Glass contact lenses were first made during this period, though it wasn't until later that they became practical for everyday use. In 1910, Columbia University offered the first formal optometry courses, marking the beginning of the profession's academic and scientific evolution.
In New Zealand, optometry began to formalise in 1897 when Alfred Levi opened the first optometry practice in Wellington. The New Zealand Optical Association was established in 1912, evolving into the Institute of Optometrists by 1922, and in 1965, Auckland University began offering optometry courses. Over time, the profession became regulated, with the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Act of 1966 making the term "optometrist" obligatory. Despite these advancements, women faced significant challenges entering the field. Gertrude Stanton became the first licensed female optometrist in 1899, but by 1968, women made up only 2.1% of optometrists in the U.S. due to societal expectations and discriminatory hiring practices. The situation began to improve when the number of women in optometry schools increased, especially after the 1970s, and by 1992, women became the majority of enrolled students. Today, women make up 61.3% of optometrists in countries like New Zealand, reflecting a shift in gender dynamics. However, traditional gender roles and societal expectations, particularly around childcare and family responsibilities, continue to limit career advancement for women, contributing to a persistent wage gap and underrepresentation in leadership roles.

Despite a failed attempt to do my nails-------DO NOT BUY THIS STUFF^^^---- And a failed attempt to update my glasses Rx, finding out Stanton Optical bases everything on AI and not real eye exams-----
It was a good Spring break. We got to get out of town for a little bit. Stayed at a couple of nice hotels, had a few meals that qe could not get here in town. And by the grace of God were brought back safely home again.
If you are returning to work, welcome back if you are starting Spring break. Have a great one!
