Can I just talk about how awesome the Stanstead airport is from a railway perspective is. Like it isn't amongst the best served or best connected or anything but considering its size and location, it just tries so well.
It has trains at least every half an hour, if not every 15 minutes at certain times while the Gatwick Express is less frequent. It also has connections to other actual major UK cities, where Gatwick just goes to London and Brighton and Heathrow has no train service West so it is stuck with London while from Stansted you can get to Norwich, Peterborough, Cambridge, Leicester and Birmingham on top of London itself. (before you say anything, I know you can get from Reading and Guildford to Gatwick but like does anyone actually like that service, plus those places are in the small leagues compared to Brighton).
Considering that Stanstead is so much smaller than both Gatwick and Heathrow I would say it has an excellent service.

Good morning!  I hope you slept well and feel rested?  Currently sitting in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day.
I’ve been recording movies off the telly, just in case The Trouble and I get some free time, or we’ve run out of energy.  Last night we watched ‘Sleepless In Seattle’.  Just like ‘Coming To America’ last week, it’s full of iconic moments and lines.  Violent films like ‘Goodfellas’ do nothing for me.  This is more my kind of movie.
On the whole, I love where I live.  I’ve been here 36 years now.  The longest I’ve ever been in any area.  Fresh meat, fresh fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, and lots of fruit and vegetables that you don’t see everywhere.  Convenient travel connections.  I can go to Willesden Junction and very easily get to Gatwick, Heathrow, Stanstead or City Airport.  Unfortunately, we have an ugly eyesore that drags down the whole neighbourhood.  It’s got the glamourous name of Harlesden Plaza and you imagine high-end hotels but it’s an absolute toilet!  It’s a car park with drive-through Burger King, a big Tesco Express and another smaller, budget-brand supermarket.  The toilets in the plaza are never open and unusable anyway (so people just piss anywhere!)  And there is one bin that is always full, always overflowing and nobody is taking responsibility for it.  The debris has spilled out and is blowing everywhere.  Who is to blame?  Just like Grenfell, nobody wants to own up.  I walk past it several times a week and it’s a symbol of declining standards in council services.  If the council don’t want to empty the bin, who owns that land?  Surely the council or the police can lean on the landowners to clean up their car park?
Have you ever been walking along the street and suddenly a thought will cross your mind, and you find yourself smiling or laughing to yourself, and the people passing you must be thinking, “Must have mental issues.”  That happened to me yesterday and, yes, it was naughty!  Look, I’m a grown man, I’m allowed to have such thoughts!
Have a tremendous and tumultuous Tuesday.  I love you all.

Studying Abroad in London? Tips and Tricks for Thriving on a Student Budget!
In terms of partying, beauty, and entertainment, London is actually hiding a very important secret that not many people realize - if you're smart about it it's cheap! Here are the best, lesser known tricks to living a budget-friendly life studying abroad, while not sacrificing any fun.
1. Design My Night
Design My Night is a UK nightlife guide where you can discover bars, restaurants, pubs and events. Ranging from boozy brunches in a ball pit to a nice dinner by the Hudson - this website has everything. And the best part is, it has special student deals it advertises, most events don't even cost above 10£. On top of that, some events/venues offer free food or drinks when buying the vouchers from here. Overall, this website is a great way not only to know whats going on, but also for cheap tickets and entry.
2. Club Emails
Now this one may seem surprising, and it was something I stumbled upon completely randomly. All of the biggest clubs in London have email newsletters - and signing up will save you many £££. If you've heard of Ministry of Sound, Egg, and The Gallery, just to name a few, signing up is a lifesaver. Often times, these clubs will send out early access tickets which are cheaper, or even just free tickets. During Easter, I scored 10 free tickets to Ministry of Sound, which has been named the most popular club in the UK, and it was one of the best nights ever! Sometimes they'll even have raffles for tables at clubs. Normally, each club entry is around 20£ per person, so this is the smartest way to get into big night clubs that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere before!
3. Student Nights at Bars
Along with the emails, bars often have student nights. They're normally during the week - but we're studying abroad so it doesn't really matter right? During these nights entry is usually no more than 5£ and they have great drink deals. Here are a few of popular student nights:
Picadilly Instritute Throwback Thursdays: 8£ and 4£ jagerbombs + more
Roxy Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 4£ entry + happy hour all night like half priced pitchers
Cargo Tuesdays and Wednesday: FREE Entry and £2.50 drinks all night!!
4. Treatwell
If someone asked me what was the most surprising thing I found living in London, it would be this website. Treatwell is almost too good to be true! It has offers and discounts for every beauty service you could image. If you are someone who gets their nails done every two weeks, you'll actually save in London. I would get high quality full sets for 15£. Sometimes you may have to travel far out into zone 2, but hey its so worth it, and the double-decker bus rides were very enjoyable.
5. Travel Smart - Do the Math!
The last tip I want to share is assuming your going to want to explore the rest of Europe. Usually this includes flying EasyJet and Ryan Air for the cheapest flights , which honestly is not that bad in my opinion. The most inconvenient part about the ordeal is usually these airports include Stanstead or Gatwick Airport. Normally you can use the National Express Coach bus to get to these locations, however depending on how many people you are traveling with Uber could be cheaper! With six people coming back from Stanstead airport our Uber split between us was only 15£ compared to the 25£ for the bus. The train is even more costly at 30£ each way.  When traveling throughout Europe, try FlixBus if your locations are close instead of flying! My friends and I took a 4 hour bus from Prague to Vienna for only 15 euros. It's a great way to see the country and taking buses saves airport transportation fees too, since buses usually travel from city center to city center. Costs add up so it is important you consider all the options when planning your trips.
I hope these tips were new and helpful. Currently, amidst Covid-19, I understand many people's study abroad plans have been halted or uncertainly suspended. I hope that we as a society, will rebound from this better than ever, and that those who are looking forward to studying abroad in London are able to go and enjoy their time there. Studying abroad in London was an amazing experience, so make sure to make the most of it. Saving and being cost efficient can help you enjoy more adventures inside the UK and out!

Friday, April 19, 2019
Today was a smooth day of travel for me. At lunch time I left for the airport to fly to Dublin. I got to the train station early so I caught an earlier train to the airport. I bought a Ryan Air ticket because it was the cheapest for such an expensive holiday weekend so I had to fly out of a different airport. Compared to the Heathrow Exprezs which was 15 minutes I had to take the Stanstead Express which was very non express 45 minutes. But I saw some beautiful fields of yellow flowers.
Tumblr media
I grabbed a quick dinner/snack at a restaurant that made you order via app and then they bring the food to your table number. You’d think it would be faster but it wasn’t. Luckily I had plenty of time.
After my flight, made my way to the airport bus which took me directly to my hotel. Very smooth system to understand since they speak English. I booked my hotel a while ago and forgot what I actually booked. Turns out I focused on location and price and not quality or amenities. The hotel is pretty rough haha but I’m sticking it out for 3 nights which will be fine. As long as it’s cheap and in a good location I’m fine. Tomorrow I explore Dublin!

Get off to a flying start: A guide to the best airport hotels in the UK
Airport hotels are all convenient – but they vary enormously in quality.
As we found out when we roved around the nation’s terminals and tried them out.
From Gatwick’s swanky Sofitel to Manchester’s reasonable Radisson, here’s everything you need to know about where to rest your head before you catch a flight…
Gatwick North
Sofitel
Sofitel at Heathrow Terminal 5 has a ‘little more soul’. Thomas gave it a glowing 5/5 rating
Price and location: From £162; two-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: Better than the Sofitel at Heathrow Terminal 5: a little less shiny, a little more soulful. With a preponderance of wooden surfaces, the room is like a cabin in a high-end yacht. It offers 24-hour room service, and the concierge is a sweetheart.
Verdict: Ooh, I say. 5/5
Premier Inn
Price and location: From £122; two-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: There’s nothing premier about this inn. It has the decor of a Happy Eater. When I asked to see a room, the receptionist said this was forbidden owing to health and safety concerns. I asked what the reason was for this. He replied: ‘I just told you.’
Verdict: Steer clear of this one. 1/5
Stanstead Airport
Radisson Blu
Price and location: From £109; two-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: The enormous lobby and bar is quite something, complete with a 50 ft tower made of wine bottles. Rooms are functional, cleverly put together and include baths. Two restaurants serve excellent British and American cuisine. It’s classy.
Verdict: Quite a sight. 4/5
Hampton by Hilton
Hampton By Hilton at London Stansted Airport is just a four-minute walk to departures
Price and location: From £98; four-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: Sadly, this suffers from ‘hotel decor syndrome’: lime green chairs in the lobby; a strange tessellation of black, grey and white tiles in the bathroom. Otherwise an adequate service.
Verdict: Needs an overhaul. 2/5
Heathrow T4
Yotel
Price and location: From £105; in the terminal.
What it’s like: It has tiny, cabin-style rooms. There’s the Oriel Restaurant for supper, just up the stairs, but you can order a snack from reception, too. You’ll also get complimentary earplugs for uninterrupted sleep.
Verdict: Everything you need, and nothing else. 3/5
Crowne Plaza
The Crowne Plaza at Heathrow T4 opened in October. A perk is that it has 24-hour room service
Price and location: From £100; three-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: This smart hotel only opened in October. It has 24-hour room service — an efficient operation — and I was impressed by the towel origami on the bed. But be warned: a coffee in the lobby set me back an outrageous £6.19.
Verdict: Worth it for the towel origami alone. 4/5
Holiday Inn Express
Price and location: From £77; three-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: This is housed in the same building as the Crowne Plaza and is owned by the same people. It’s just not as nice. The room decor is pretty bland, but at least you can eat in its sister hotel’s excellent restaurant.
Verdict: A way to piggy-back on the Crowne Plaza’s facilities. 3/5
Gatwick South
Bloc
Bloc at Gatwick South is an ‘excellent option’ with its small rooms and rain showers in the bathrooms
Price and location: From £98; in the terminal.
What it’s like: Bloc is cheaper than most as it offers only rooms. There’s no restaurant or bar, but as it’s in the terminal that doesn’t matter. The rooms are small, but nice, with a satisfying rain shower in the bathroom. An excellent option.
Verdict: The future of airport hotels. Possibly. 4/5
Hilton
Price and location: From £88; four-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: The staff are pleasant and there was a judiciously chosen Matisse print on my wall, but the furnishings were pretty tired. It’s set to get an overhaul this month, so when refurbishments are finished it may be a better option. If you have an early start, they’ll make you a packed breakfast — a nice touch.
Verdict: Hang fire. 2/5
Yotel
Compact chic: Yotel Hotel at Gatwick South is ‘small but perfectly formed’. The rooms are priced from £135 and are designed to resemble aircraft cabins
Price and location: From £135; in the terminal.
What it’s like: As at Heathrow, this Yotel’s small rooms are designed to resemble aircraft cabins. There are no windows, but it’s perfect for crashing in. And you can treat the rest of the airport as your hotel.
Verdict: Yotels are small, but perfectly formed. 3/5
Edinburgh Airport
Moxy
Price and location: From £88; six-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: Airport hotels don’t come much cooler than the Moxy at Edinburgh. As a nod to the city’s status as the world’s first Unesco City of Literature, the lobby is decorated with bookish sculptures. There’s also a large photo of Andy Warhol and a pinball machine.
It doesn’t do room service but you can get a snack at any hour. There’s a startling pink theme to the decor. I also noticed a print in the lobby that read: ‘Stop trying to make everyone happy. You are not tequila.’
Verdict: Cool as a cucumber. 5/5
Hampton by Hilton
Price and location: Costs from £113; five-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: Outside, bunny rabbits munch the grass beside (incongruously) a Spitfire aircraft. This new hotel prides itself on being the only one here ‘on airport land’. The rooms are decent, with huge TVs. There’s no room service, but they’ll do you a packed breakfast if you have an early start.
Verdict: There wasn’t much wrong with this. 3/5
Bristol Airport
Hampton by Hilton
Bristol Airport Hampton by Hilton has ‘friendly staff and the rooms are pleasant’. This one scored a 3/5 rating
Price and location: From £79; two-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: This has friendly staff and the rooms are pleasant. A continental-style breakfast is available from 4am and a cooked breakfast from 6am.
Verdict: Your only real option in Bristol. It’s fine. 3/5
Glasgow Airport
Holiday Inn
Price and location: From £85; one-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: There’s 24-hour service and the attractive rooms are decorated with modern abstracts — most have baths, too.
Verdict: A simple but solid choice. 3/5
Heathrow T5
Sofitel
Price and location: From £172; four-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: It’s a gleaming five-star hotel, if you like that sort of thing — I felt it lacked humanity. Even the staff seemed cowed by the grandeur of their surroundings. On every table in the tea salon there was a small, identical cactus, which just about sums it up. Breakfast is not included.
Verdict: Luxurious, but this comes at a price. 3/5
Manchester Airport
Radisson Blu
Radisson Blu at Manchester Airport is a five-minute walk to departures and rooms cost from £112
Price and location: From £112; five-minute walk to departures.
What it’s like: The bed in my double room was a super king, meaning it was about the size of a tennis court. The sleek, understated decor includes cool black-and-white photographs, and the rooms also have bath tubs. There’s 24-hour room service and an agreeable bar-restaurant. It’s definitely worth it.
Verdict: Your only option here — it does the job. 3/5
All prices based on a stay on Friday, June 28.

On the 10th of October 2017 my flatmate Su knocked on my door and asked if I wanted to go to Copenhagen for the weekend at some point in November- because I have a Monday and a Friday off this term I immediately said yes! Within an hour it was all booked up for the weekend of the 3rd- 6th of November 🙂
On the 3rd we had to wake up super early because we had a flight from Stanstead Airport at 8.45am so we had to leave our flat at 5.30am 😦 We got the tube to Liverpool Street, Stanstead express from Liverpool street to the airport, grabbed a Starbucks because the festive drinks had just come out and boarded the plane 🙂
When we arrived in Copenhagen we bought metro tickets and headed to the AirBNB that we would be staying in for the next few days- the AirBNB was lovely and about as big as our 4 person flat in london!! We spoke to the host about what to do in Copenhagen and they said to make sure we went to a place called Tivoli which we had been led to believe was closed. After unpacking our suitcases we jumped back on the metro and headed to central copenhagen to find Tivoli Amusement Park 🙂
We arrived at Tivoli, bought an unlimited ride pass and wow did we use it! We went on the carousel, the dragon boats, the astronomer, the star flyer, the galley ships, the mine, the monsoon, the bumper cars and the roller coaster. Our absolute favourite was the star flyer, although you were very high and being swung around therefore it was absolutely freezing the view was breathtaking and because the ride was set up so that it felt like you were flying on a broomstick my friend and I sung Defying Gravity at the tops of our voices whilst on the ride 😛
After all of the rides we grabbed some food and watched a light show on the river where the water would light up different colours and there were fireworks which was really cool 🙂 Tivoli gardens was absolutely amazing and if you ever find yourself in Copenhagen I would highly recommend it although maybe not on the day you fly because by the time we finally crawled into bed at around Midnight we were absolutely shattered!!
The next day we had a lie in because we were both knackered from the day before but when we finally woke up we grabbed some breakfast and jumped on the metro towards NyHaven which was the most beautiful waterfront and street I had ever seen!! The houses were all gorgeous colours and Hans Christian Anderson lived in one of the houses which was really cool 🙂

After looking around Nyhaven we decided it was time for a very late lunch so we went to this lovely restaurant called Geist which I would highly reccomend if you are ever in Copenhagen and has the most AMAZING candyfloss which looked like a cloud!
After lunch we walked for around half an hour stopping to shop and have a look around and finally came across the famous Little Mermaid from the Hans Christian anderson fairytale. It was a lot smaller than you would think but was still really cool to see 🙂
After the Little Mermaid statue we headed back to our AirBnB and ended up cooking dinner there and then watched a sing along version of Pitch Perfect :p
On our last full day in Copenhagen we got up, had breakfast and then headed off to an area of Copenhagen called Norreport which has cool shopping, museums and a castle!! Our first stop was the Rosenborg castle which was absolutely beautiful 🙂 We then did some shopping and walked along to the National Museums which includes a zooological and geological museum and the botanical gardens 🙂
Processed with VSCO with c1 preset
After the museums we then went to a food market which was really cool and had a delicious Duck sandwich for dinner and then it was time to head back to the AirBnb.
Our final day was spent packing in the morning and then we headed to another Copenhagen castle called the Christiansborg Palace after which it was time to head to the airport for our flight home 😦
Overall I absolutely loved my time in Copenhagen and I had such a blast 🙂 I’m so happy I said yes when my flatmate knocked on my door a month ago and it’s an experience I will never forget 🙂
Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to Copenhagen or if this post has inspired you to go 🙂

American Express Expands Its Lounge Access Program With Its Platinum Card
The Escape Lounge at London Stanstead Airport. Starting this month, those who hold an American Express Platinum card will now have access to Escape Airport Lounges. Escape Lounges
Skift Take: Travelers who own the American Express card now have a new suite of lounges to look forward to visiting. Whether they make up for the annual fee on the AmEx platinum is another question.
— Grant Martin
American Express is goosing the perks that come with its Platinum card as the market heats up and competition for premium cards increases.
Starting this month, those who hold an American Express Platinum card will now have access to Escape Airport Lounges found in Oakland, California, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Hartford, Connecticut in the United States and in East Midlands, London Stansted, and Manchester in the United Kingdom.
News of the partnership was released earlier this month through Manchester Air Group, which owns the UK airports.
Like most independent airport lounges, Escape Lounges offer free light snacks, drinks, alcohol and WiFi as well as a quiet place to work or rest away from the noisy terminal. The blog Points, Miles and Martinis describes the Minneapolis lounge as “a very spacious lounge with plenty of seating” with “a full service bar with a nice selection of alcohol.”
AmEx Platinum cardholders already have access to several Centurion lounges around the country as well as over 1,000 Priority Pass lounges throughout the world. Inclusion of the Escape Lounges broadens the card’s airport lounge reach just a bit further.
Moreover, reach into the Escape Lounge network adds a further benefit to the Platinum card and helps make it distinct from the rest of the industry. Last year, Chase launched the Reserve card, which aimed to compete with AmEx on the Platinum level and deliver a wide range of benefits to high-spend customers (along with a hefty annual fee, like American Express). Airlines have also gotten into the game by offering their own fancy high-end cards offering free lounge access specific to the carrier.
With multiple incumbents, American Express seemed to yield territory earlier this year with news in March, that the company was raising annual fees, admitting that it had let to many points-hungry bargain hunters into the program.
Since then, Chase and American Express have competed heavily to offer the best range of perks while focusing on the highest spend customers. Access to Escape Lounges is the latest move from American Express. Without a doubt, Chase will return and up the ante.

The issue is that youth represents a quarter of the world’s workforce, but they also represent half of the unemployment population around the world.

increase intercultural competences to communicate effectively your message with people from other cultures; develop communication, team work, leadership skills and get equipped with tools for self-development.
