Cloning a dead man was difficult.

He kept having to make them younger and younger for them to have even a chance of survival.

But that was ok. He could make up a story. Maybe his brother got into an accident he couldn’t remember. Maybe the only way to save him was to keep him in some form of suspended animation. It was ok. They might not be twins anymore, but that didn’t matter; they’d always be brothers.

The second Stanley didn’t need to know the truth

Besides, Ford was his brother. He hung on to his every word. He’d never guess his twin would lie to him.

Basically this is my headcannon for what happened to Stan in The Better World; the original Stanley didn’t make it to far after being sent away with Ford’s journal. By the time anyone thought to look for him, it was too late.

Consumed by grief, Ford creates a second version of his brother. After multiple failed trials, he eventually discovers he can only grow a clone up to a certain age. Ford eventually settles for this child version of his brother.

The clone hatches at 12 years old, and contains all of his memories up to that age. It’s still his brother. And maybe this time, Stanford can spare this new version of his twin the pain he experienced in his “first life”

Based on @jellynut's BillStill au and @mroddmod's art piece Rough Seas

So far, I'm working on an accompanying fic where Stan is thrown overboard and drowns, but he lives after Bill saves him... and the consequences that happen soon after.

I left a comment on mroddmod's post, but I'll put it here. It's basically the premise of the fic: "Okay, but now I'm thinking about the theory/au that Bill still exists in the depths of Stan's mind. Ford can't help Stan get back on board, or he's about to jump in to get him back when Stan all of a sudden is just chucked back onto the boat. Ford's confused as hell, but he hears "Stan" splutter and chokes out a "Not even a year in and you almost kill yourself, old man?" It's Stan's voice but there's a weird lilt to it. They later learn it was Bill who somehow managed to possess Stan the moment he passed out/drowned."

Although this isn't the scene I wrote above, I, for the love of me, could not get this specific scene out of my head even though I haven't written it yet. This takes place after Stan and Ford have had time to process the fact that Bill's alive and can communicate with Stan (that's why Ford isn't throttling him at this exact moment).

Page 2! I fuckin HATED how it looked before I fixed it. This looks different because I fought with the original drawing file in krita (I had atleast 60 un-named layers), then did the text in CSP. Which is where I do all my art now, so if things change, that's why!

As for the fic, I'm actually writing it! Hooray! I'll post a link to it when I upload it. It will be on AO3, prrrrobably not tumblr. But who knows.

__________________________________________________________ Rough basis is an AU where Stan gets deaged somehow, and Ford has to now man a ship on his own, and find a way to revert Stan. (Post-Weirdmagedon) This ends up with them going various places, having various experiences. Both angsty and comforting. This specific scene would be after a rough run-in with an anomaly, the two having to camp out, as they need an ingredient for the potion or smth to revert Stan still.

Stan is reminded of some unsavory memories, and the two have a short heart-to-heart, and Stan is comforted.

When did Stanley 2 to get cloned? As in how old is timeline based? Like is he around the same age as the younger twins or similar age to Soos?

Despite being a clone, how much does he actually act like Stanley? While I imagine he probably looks like Stanley physically and has Stanley’s DNA, is he his own person who has different interests and desires from Stanley OG?

Also if Stanley 2 started exhibiting behaviors different from Ford’s brother how upset would Ford be?

Stanford took a good number of years of trial and error to figure out the cloning process, but when he finally finishes everything, Stan II is hatched in the February of 1994. Coincidentally, if he were a “real” kid, his birth year would’ve been 1982; the same year Ford sent off his brother with the Jornal.

He’s not that much younger (physically) than Tate McGucket. Which works out well for him since the McGucket’s in general are some of the only people Stanford allows Stan II to be around.

One of the biggest parts of the Stan 2 lore is that he doesn’t know he’s a clone. He thinks he’s the one and only Stanley Pines that has ever been. Hell, he’s got all the memories of the original Stan up until 12 (and every night he has these dreams of him and Ford, the same age, going to school together in glass shard beach). So his interest are mostly the same as Stan’s at first.

But he’s being raised differently. And he’s also physically weaker than Stan is; one of the side effects of cloning a dead man is that the dna being used isn’t fresh; it’s rotting. Unraveling. Turning into dust. Which is part of why it took Ford so long to clone his brother in the first place.

Physically, Stan is lacking in energy, and chronically sore. His heart is rather weak, as are his muscles. He has a hard time building and keeping muscle mass as well as fat. He’s not doing that great physically.

So Stan’s role of Brawn to Ford’s brain is completely gone. He can’t box; his bones are fragile, and he’s immuneo-compromised; Ford wouldn’t let him anywhere near a public gym mat with how much bacteria these things carry (though a part of that is Ford being overprotective).

A lot of Stan’s interest as a kid are just things he can’t do anymore. And he also lacks the energy to be the energetic boy he was as a kid.

So rather than being Not Like Stanley (he’d have no reason to be considering all his memories are the same), he can’t be like Stanley.

And as he grows into someone different than Ford remembers him being, Ford’s gotta grapple both with guilt over who the original Stan could’ve been but was never able to become, and also mourning that the original Stan is gone, and this clone isn’t really the second chance he made him to be.

Of course, he’s gotta be quiet about all that. He does NOT want Stan ii to find out he’s a clone.

FiddEmmaStan AU where Emma May moved to Gravity Falls around the same time Stan took Ford's identity. She divorces Fiddleford & dumps him on Stan's (newly acquired) porch. While Stan is trying to fix the portal and run the mystery shack, and a recovering Fiddleford builds lots of robots for the mystery shack & does upkeep, Emma is raising Tate & having weekly Wine Nights with Stan (she finds out the truth of him not being Ford & they kinda become best friends about it). Fiddleford & Emma May fall for Stanley separately and accidentally fall back in love with each other along the way (Stan is Tate's favourite parent during the like 3 years this takes). Emma ends up moving into the mystery shack & with no prior science knowledge takes up helping fix the portal & gives some of the tours. Stan is having huge amounts of Bi Panic cause omg he's fallen for Emma May & Fiddleford and their son now calls him Dad (Stan balled his eyes put the first time) but they seem to be working stuff out and he shouldn't get in the way of that??? Anyway Fiddleford and Emma co-seduce Stanley. It works. The relationship is surprisingly healthy. They get Poly Married (it's Gravity Falls) but it's Emma & Fidds both being married to Stanley - when Emma May is annoyed with Fiddleford she describes him as her husband-in-law.

Mabel & Dipper visit Gravity Falls for the summer and are greeted by their Grunkle Stan, Grauntie Emma May, Grunkle Fidds & Cousin Tate
