Common Mistakes That SUP Beginners Do
Standup paddleboarding is presently one of the booming water sports in the sphere. It is completely a family-friendly pursuit. Besides allowing everyone to enjoy the time, this affordable activity offers numerous health benefits as well. Once you start taking the pleasure of SUP, you will find no preferable way to rejuvenate & take a breather.
Though SUP is easily accessible, it has its own techniques to play. Thus, making mistakes as a newbie is absolutely common in SUP. A veteran can do mistakes on the occasion. So, don’t feel shame if you do mistakes as a SUP beginner.
Well, no two mistakes can necessarily be the same in SUP. However, there are some mistakes that almost every individual does when he is new to standup paddleboarding. This article shares a list of mistakes that are common to the majority of SUP beginners. Apprehend those mistakes & prepare yourself for an error-free water adventure.
Having The Wrong Paddle Board
Buying the wrong paddle board is one of the most regular mistakes that 8 out of 10 beginners do. Almost all newbies think that paddle boards come in a fixed size. However, the fact is- this key equipment varies in length, thickness, width, & shape. And most importantly, there is no one size fits all. So, if you pick a paddle board that does not suit your ability, then you can’t enjoy the game utterly. You may get the common recommendation to use a wider board for better stability. However, you can ask an instructor for help while picking your paddle board.
Paddling In The Wrong Way
Paddling plays a pivotal role in making the game successful. It decides how easily you can move through the water. Unfortunately, almost every newcomer to the sport holds the paddle incorrectly without even realizing it. As a result, they put more effort for the enjoyment, but experience the less thrill. Sometimes, it ends up breaking the paddle. So, as a beginner, you must learn how to keep the blade leaning away from you. This is a very fundamental rule & by learning this rule, you can enjoy both optimal tracking & speed.
Positioning Yourself Too Far Forward Or Backward
The center of the paddle board is known for offering the maximum balance. It does not matter what paddle board you own, you have to place yourself at the center to rule over the waves. Unfortunately, many beginners don’t acknowledge this fact. They stand either too far forward or too far backward on the board. As a result, they lose their balance easily & can’t do SUPing properly. So, when you are having a SUP lesson, learn about positioning so that you can glide through the water more effortlessly.
Not Inflating The Board To The Recommended PSI
Every manufacturer recommends a PSI level for their paddle board. When the paddle board remains inflated to that level, it works fine & offers maximum longevity. However, many new paddleboarders feel it less significant to keep their board properly inflated. They don’t understand that by doing so, they are hindering the full potency of their board to float on water. So, as a beginner, it is your responsibility to scan your owner’s handbook while inflating your paddle board. This is basically a form of aftercare that no paddleboarders can ignore.
SUPing In A Crowded Lineup
SUP is a form of the game that anybody can enjoy on any kind of wave. Its immense fun always tempts a beginner to pick a packed lineup. Of course, it will be more exciting if you do paddleboarding with other surfers. But since you are new to SUP, you can’t be technically competent on the waves. As a result of which, you may encounter unwanted collisions. So, instead of picking a well-known surf break, you need to pick a break that is lightly packed so that you can have the most injury-free fun out of your SUPing.
Not Using A Leash
A leash is one of the most cardinal pieces of safety equipment that any SUP voyager can have. It is there to eliminate the possibility of getting separated from the board. But SUP beginners always forget to use a leash while venturing into the sea. They take it as an optional extra, which is not at all true. Any unexpected can happen while SUPing. Your paddle board can be a lifesaver during an extremity. So, no matter how efficient you are at swimming, you need to wear a leash & keep yourself protected in all kinds of emergencies.
The Final Word
Mistakes are sure to happen in daily life. The best part of every mistake is that it comes with a learning lesson. But making the same mistake again & again is not at all fun. So, it is important for every SUP beginner to learn from their mistakes. Turn to a proficient trainer for the best SUP lessons. Let him teach the best SUP tactics to perform error-free maneuvering in water strongly & confidently.

hey I'm here to tell you about the time I went standup paddleboarding with my mom on lake Austin and we got caught in the middle of a bunch of bats in a feeding frenzy. it was so cool to just relax, floating on the water, drifting in the breeze, and watching a few dozen bats dance around in the air, catching and eating hundreds or thousands of insects each. it's one of my most treasured memories, I thought I'd share it with you 💖
HOLY SHIT YOU GOT TO SEE BATS OUT IN THE REAL WORLD I'M SO JEALOUS I LOVE THE LITTLE GUYS SO MUCH
thank you for sharing this, the mental image i have formed is beautiful

I’m visually impaired but thanks to my guides I loved exploring Austria’s Tirol | Austria holidays News Buzz
Swimming through the cool clear lake, I’m aware of the densely forested mountains behind us, with pale rocky peaks to our right. A cable car snakes up the side of one, and the sky is turning grey, hinting at an Alpine storm. A standup paddleboarder with blond hair who is wearing bright Hawaiian shorts glides past, and the distant shore that we’re heading towards is clustered with cheery red…

Quote
In China, Li was an activist, bringing litigation suits against local authorities to defend community rights, and campaigning for human rights causes, including in Hong Kong and Myanmar. He has been questioned, detained and fined. He says that friends who campaigned with him have recently been jailed and he is still under investigation for “subversion of state power”. “The sentence would be four to 15 years, so I didn’t think I could stay in China any longer,” he says. So he left. Li’s arrival at Kinmen went undetected, and he says he walked for an hour until he found someone to take him to a police station where he could turn himself in. Court documents reveal the coastguard confiscated two phones, one life jacket, one standup paddleboard, and a paddle. He spent three months in detention. The Kinmen district court found he had violated immigration and customs laws, and sentenced him to time served. He is now living in the community but cannot support himself and says that NGO-provided assistance will end soon. His passport has expired. While he says that some third countries have said he can travel to them, they wil not allow it without valid documents.
