You HATED Ellie Williams, and hate is not a light word. You hated her hair, you hated her buff yet skinny arms, you hate how her eyes would roll when you walked into a room. You hated how even though you hated her, you loved the sight of her face.

"Dina, you know I hate doing shit with her. She makes everything so miserable." You crossed your arms over your chest, sucking on the lollipop in your mouth. "Look YN, just try, please? I'll talk to her, okay?"

You sigh, rubbing your temples. "Fine, I'll come but if she starts something I can't grantee I won't go off on her ass."

Soon you found yourself in a small circle with Dina, Jesses, and Ellie. "Let's have a drink." Dina suggests, standing to grab the nearby liquor on the table. "Where'd you even get this from?" You ask leaning back. "Does it matter, just drink it." Ellie speaks, glaring at you like she has been the whole time. You take a deep breath, turning toward Dina. "So, where'd you get it from."

"Just pass me the damn liquor Dina." Ellie interrupts Dina. "Ellie can you for once not be a god damn pain in the fucking ass?" You turn to her, giving her a disgusted look. "Me not be a pain in the ass and you're asking dumbass questions, let's just fucking drink." Suddenly you stand. "Okay I'm not doing this. I even tried to ignore her and still she found a way to be a bitch." Ellie stans as well. "You're callin' me a bitch? Have you seen your attitude lately love?"

You throw your hands up in defeat. "I'm leaving." Finally, Dina stands and grabs your arm. "YN no. You're gonna stay in here! You two need to do something about whatever the hell this weird ass beef is!" I roll my eyes, "I'm not going to stay here and try to make up with her, it's not like she listens." Ellie tries to rush you, but Jesse grabs her. "Okay can everyone just calm the fuck down?!"

Dina takes a deep breath. "You two are going to sit in here and you're going to fucking make up." You shake your head. "I'm not doing that shit." Ellie laughs. "Yeah right, I'm not sitting in a room with her alone." You glare at her, crossing your arms against your chest. “Dina, I swear to go-“ Dina places her hand over your mouth.

“You both are going to stay in this damn room, and you're going to make the hell up.” She fake smiles, grabbing Jesse. You chase after her, “Dina-“ She slams the door in your face and locks it. “Make. Up!” She yells.

Now you sit face to face with Ellie, the silence piercing through the room. “Look, I ain’t plannin’ to make up. So, let’s just pretend we’re cool and leave it at that.” She leans back in the most enticing way, her legs spreading the just right amount.

You struggle to keep your eyes from raining to in between her legs. “I can’t even pretend to like you.” You say rolling your eyes to look away. “You can’t pretend to like me, but you can pretend like you weren’t just staring in between my legs?” She smirks, sitting up and leaning down against her knees.

Your face heats up and you avoid eye contact. “I wasn’t ev-“ Ellie laughs, “Damn and then you lie about it? I thought you were bolder than that.” You glare at her. “You’re so cocky, you must think everyone likes looking in between your legs.” She laughs once more. “I know you do.”

She silences you.

Suddenly she stands, placing herself in front of you on the floor. “So do you wanna make up or not?” She was close, very close. Her eyes trailing down to your lips, her hands placed on your thighs. “What are you talking about?” You speak quietly from being so close.

“Let’s make up.”

After that phrase was uttered, you and Ellie’s lips collide at a fast speed. The kiss so sloppy and good it has you feeling feverish. Her rough hands sliding up your shirt, against the skin of your stomach. “You must’ve waited so long for this huh?” She says smirking against your lips.

“Just shut the fuck up.” Ellie laughs. “Shut me up.” Those words ignite a light in your belly, causing you to squeeze your legs together. “Look at you all tense, want me to help you?” She asks, placing her hands higher up your shirt. Her hands find themselves unbuckling your black bra, and you were happy you wore it.

“Must’ve known this was gonna happen huh? Wore such a pretty bra f’me?” Ellie attaches her lips to your neck, biting down softly and pulling a small sound from your lips as you jolt. “Want me to touch you? Tell me.” She waits for your response. “Yeah. I do Ellie, so just fucking do it.”

“Don’t be a bitch about it.”

Finally, you're on your back, her fingers penetrating you at a fast pace. “This feel good huh? Always talking shit, I guess this shuts you up?” She grins over you, watching your face contort from pleasure. “F-fuck! Shut the fuck u-up...!” Your back arching off the couch as she hits that one sweet spot inside you.

“Yeah? This the spot for you huh?” She places your nipple into her mouth, sucking softly. “Oh! Okayokay..!” You place your fingers into her hair, your eyes closed and filling with tears from how good you feel. “Holy-“ Ellie pulls away from the bud with a pop, saliva coating the nipple sloppily.

“Gonna cum around my fingers? Yeah?” She speeds up, your core tightening around her fingers. “I-I’m gonn-“ Ellie suddenly pulls her fingers away. You gasp, looking at her with a glare. “What the hell-“ She places her hand over your mouth. “Lay back down you big baby.”

You force yourself back down with a groan. Ellie’s mouth finds its way to your clot, sucking harshly. “Wh- AH!” Your hands going to her head as she sucks and licks at your swollen bud. Her eyes never leaving yours as she watches the tears that had built in your eyes finally fall.

“Gonna- whew! I’m gonna cum El’s!” Ellie sucks harder, just enough to make you go over the edge. The pull you have in her hair causing her to groan softly into your cunt. She licks your juices all up, not leaving a drop behind. She sits up, wiping the side of her lip and placing her finger into her mouth like she had leftover sauce from a meal.

“You taste so good YN, if I would’ve known that I’d have eaten you out sooner.” She comes close to your face, causing your face to scrunch. “I thought we made up?”

1.How long have you been in this fandom? 

Since 2016, so this year I will celebrate 6 years loving traumatized vampires lol.

2. Who's your fictional boyfriend/husband?

3. Why do you like them? 

Oh no, you don't want me to start talking about him.

He’s my free therapy. (??)

I literally have an 11-page PDF in Spanish analyzing his character and explaining why I love him so much.

I just don’t know how to explain AAAAAAAAAA.

Let’s just say that really adore his character construction, his looks, his voice and… Everything??

4. Have you make acquaintance with anyone that ships themselves with the same character? 

Yep, it's actually less people than I expected when I’ve joined the fandom but I'm glad Kou has some recognition and "fans" in the real world, although I totally understand why he can't be a highly acclaimed character.

5. How do you feel about it? 

I don’t care really, there was a time when I felt even more insecure about other ocs, but nowadays it doesn't really matter or affect me as long as no one messes with me. Also, I really must say that I love the creativity of the Muns!

6. Do you feel any negativity towards them? 

Nope.

7. Do you like seeing their oc(s) interact with your man/woman? 

It depends, I must admit that there are a lot of good characters even outside the ship with Kou. But since I consider myself a fan of well-constructed and readable stories, I wouldn't be able to couple MY tastes with all the ocs that are paired with him. However, my opinion should not be limiting or a hindrance for writers to do as they please, so I don't wish to offend anyone with this.

8. Do you feel competitive against them?

No. I consider their relationship as multiple universes.

9. Confident, or pessimistic? 

It depends.

10. Would you like more to get to know about your ship, or would you rather it being lowkey? 

A mix of both.

I like the ship and I wish I could bring more content from them more often, but I would like it to be understood that they are not the main couple of my story, they are actually quite secondary, and for that reason I would love to introduce the rest of my cast, but strangely I only have inspiration for KouRisu.

11. Do you follow any of those people (them whom ship themselves with your fictional lover) 

Yes, and fortunately we’re mutuals. <3

12. Are you friends with them? 

"Friends" is a strong word for me, but if I could define my relationship with them, it would be something a little less than that but a lot more than acquaintances/mutuals. I appreciate them and am fond of them but unfortunately, I have not been able to get close enough in and out of character.

13. What do you think about the 'stans' ? 

Honestly, I'm not interested in Kou’s “fandom” outside of artistic or literary, so I haven't interacted with them much. I only associate with roleplayers or artists, so I can't really have a strong opinion on this.

14. Are you worried about plagiarism or copying of your oc(s) by others? 

I don't think anyone would dare, I'm very perceptive about small details. And if it were to happen, I would expect cooperation and understanding in order to come to a reasonable conclusion.

15. How do you handle such a situation if it happens?

Public.

I met the people I care about most in the world, even if they are far away or not from the same biological family, they give me the warmth and love I need since 2019. I could give anything for each of them and that's why I try to include them in the ocs projects I do.

something crazy just happened...

i started this blog a year and a half ago and i honestly never imagined i would reach 100 followers let alone 15k!!! so i want to thank you ALL for being so lovely, welcoming and supportive - whenever i come on to tumblr, the studyblr community never fails to make me smile

this studyblr has been such an important journey for me and since i’ve made it i’ve grown as a person and as a student. it has taught me so much, from good study habits and self-care tips, to even some things about who i am as a person!

since i’ve created this blog and particularly in the past few months I've had the honour to meet and get to know some truly incredible people and i want to tag some people who i love and im so thankful to for being so kind:

Not sure if it's wise to stan Lindsay Ellis or emulate her in any way, because she's pretty accepting of ships like Beetlejuice (an adult) x Lydia (a child). It seems likely that she'd be cool with Sessrin too and would chastise anyone criticizing that ship.

She also defended Stephanie Meyer's Twilight by omitting most core criticisms of the franchise like its glorification of child grooming, racism, and misogyny. Lindsay Ellis has some good takes, but she'd definitely be on friendly terms with Sessrin shippers and others of their ilk.

I don't really feel like what she's talking about in the screenshots and this situation are all that comparable, though. First of all, in the Inuyasha series, Sesshoumaru and Rin aren't coded as a couple, especially not in classic RT style. There's not really a concrete definition to the relationship at all, which enables a lot of different interpretations, as opposed to the coding leading one to a certain conclusion.

Second of all, the Beetlejuice cartoon and the Beetlejuice movie resemble each other little more than name and character design - in the screenshots, LE talks about how she was initially a little taken aback by how different the characters' relationship was in the movie vs. the cartoon, and how the cartoon fans would ship them in the context of the show because that's how it was presented to them within the context. There's a discrepancy there not because the relationship is coded ambiguously in canon, but because fans are dealing with two totally separate and distinct codings that have little to do with one another. The movie and cartoon are so incompatible in tone and context that it's impossible to reconcile the two into a cohesive canon, so the shippers and anti shippers may as well be talking about two entirely separate things (which they are). In Inuyasha/Yashahime's case, however, the latter follows from the former, they're supposed to represent one long contiguous timeline, and so the dynamic between Sesshoumaru and Rin in Yashahime would have to be based upon that of what it was in Inuyasha, which is where antis in THIS sphere have a problem. It's one thing to have two different fandoms of two different stories entirely where one is very loosely based on the other warring with each other over details that were wholly different from one another (Beetlejuice). It's another to have a direct continuation of a series that may or may not imply some pretty iffy dynamics based on a grown man getting with a girl he has authority over when she's older (Inuyasha/Yashahime).

Third, LE characterizes the shippers of the Beetlejuice fandom as largely peaceful, mostly keeping to themselves until an anti wanders into their midst. In my experience, it's been the opposite in this fandom. I keep on the anti tag, have only posted once in the ship tag (to boost a post that had both ship and anti arguments on it), and don't go looking for fights. I've been getting quite a few shippers demanding in various ways that I shut up and refrain from stating my opinion on my own blog multiple times now. I may be wrong, but given the circumstances, I think that LE might have a less-than-favorable view of the shippers in this fandom for having a similarly militant pattern of behavior to the antis in the Beetlejuice fandom. It's not necessarily the opinion that I see her criticizing in the screenshots (she even says she understands how the content can be upsetting), but the way one invades spaces that are not theirs to insist that someone isn't allowed to have the opposite opinion.

And, at the risk of repeating myself yet again, I actually DO NOT have a problem with the existence of the SessRin ship. I have ignored it for years, and will continue to ignore it for years to come, no matter what Sunrise wants to validate in their sequel. I just have my blog to express my opinion, help commiserate with other antis, and assert that it isn't unreasonable for anyone to read Sesshoumaru and Rin's relationship as platonic. So, actually, I mostly agree with LE in her dismissal of people "supporting" abuse by liking a ship. My issue is with Sunrise if they decide to put positive depictions of grooming in a show for children, but as far as the shippers in the fandom go, I really have no problem with them shipping. Theirs isn't an invalid interpretation either, given all of the surrounding material in the world promoting it. We can coexist, disagree, and still be fine. At the moment. Shippers don't seem to WANT a peaceful coexistence with me, but I think eventually they'll get bored of fighting over nothing.

As for LE's defense of Stephanie Meyer, it was specifically a defense against all the unfair, misogynistic attacks on her for writing something popular with girls and women. She didn't say there's weren't VALID criticisms of Twilight; she just said she was sorry for buying into the intense unwarranted hatred of Twilight and Stephanie Meyer for nothing more than our culture's general disdain for anything that girls like. I'd like to think she really didn't need to make the video where she listed and elaborated upon all the problematic aspects of the Twilight series, because quite frankly, that video already existed in multiple iterations long before she made her own.

Finally, I think it's important to note that I'm 32 years old and not really interested in "stanning" or "emulating" anyone at this point. A couple of anon messages stated they thought there were similarities between myself and LE, and while I am flattered because I think she has some valuable and insightful opinions on fiction, I'm far past the point of trying to be like her or thinking she's flawless. I do have some disagreements with some things she's said before; I don't have much interest in listing them out here, but suffice it to say you should have no worries whatsoever that I would blindly follow her example on every little point. Nor would I suggest anyone else do so. I just like watching her videos, think she has a cool perspective, and am flattered to be compared to someone who it looks like has been pretty successful in writing and publishing a novel, as that's kind of a goal of mine.

The Chocolatier’s Rose {Willy Wonka x OC} Ch.29

Summary: Next on their wedding plan list, is a stop to see Eleanor about providing her musical talents.

Their next stop was to see Eleanor. Rose wanted her to handle all the music considering her talent on the violin. And Rose has heard Eleanor singing before. She has a lovely voice. The elevator stopped in front of Eleanor's house. Rose, Willy and Charlie all walked up to the front door. Rose rang the doorbell.

"Someone is at the door, Eleanor!" a woman's voice called from inside.

"I can hear that, mum!" Eleanor called back. "Dad, why can't you get it?"

"I'm watching the telly!" her dad called back to her.

An audible groan was heard from the other side of the door, before it opened and revealed Eleanor. She perked you when she saw who it was. "Rose! Willy! Charlie!"

"Hello, Ellie" Rose greeted her, while Willy and Charlie simply waved at her.

"Who is it, El?" her mum called from the kitchen.

"It's my friends, mum!" Eleanor called back, cupping her hands around her mouth to amplify her voice. "You know, Charlie, Rose and Willy!"

"Oh!" At that point, Eleanor's mum came out to greet them. It wasn't hard to see where Eleanor got her beauty from. "Pleasure to meet you all! Eleanor talks about you three all the time"

"This is my mum, Tina. And my dad, Stan, is in the living room watching the telly"

Rose smiled at Tina. "Nice to meet you, Tina. I'm—"

"Rose!" Tina answered. "I know, and my El wasn't lying when she said you were beautiful" Tina looked down to Charlie. "And you must be Charlie"

"That's right, ma'am" Charlie nodded curtly.

"Oh, my dear boy, please call me Tina" Finally, the woman looked up to Willy. "And you're the famous Willy Wonka. You wouldn't believe how much Eleanor goes on about you two" Tina looked between Rose and Willy. "She goes on and on and on. Says that you're the cutest couple she's ever seen!"

"Mum!" Eleanor whined.

"Please, come on in!" Tina extended an invitation towards the three of them. "I've just finished with lunch"

Everyone was seated at the table for a lunch consisting of pasta and garlic bread. Eleanor's parents sat on either end, while Charlie and Eleanor sat together on one side, and Rose and Willy were on the other.

"So," Stan started, looking up from his plate to Rose and Willy. "Our El tells us you two just got engaged"

Rose and Willy looked at each other and smiled. "We sure are!" Willy said happily.

"And we're currently planning our wedding" Rose added. She looked over to Eleanor. "Which is what brought us to see you, Eleanor"

Eleanor's eyes lit up with curiosity and excitement. "Me? What possibly for?"

"We want you to be in charge of the music"

Eleanor gasped as her fork slipped from her hand and landed on her plate with a clank. "Really? You must be joking with me"

"Of course we're not joking with you, silly" Willy said to her. He giggled at her and then his face stiffened to a serious expression. "We're being very serious"

"So, you two want me to be in charge of all the music?" Eleanor asked again.

"Well, only if you want to" Rose said. "We just figured, you're real talented with the violin..."

"She's talented with other instruments too!" Tina spoke up. "Piano, guitar, flute, cello, the triangle. You name it, and she can play it!"

Stan also decided to brag about his daughter's musical talents. "Our El is quite the musician. See that shelf over there?" He turned around and pointed to a shelf full of trophies, ribbons and awards. "All those were won by Eleanor"

"Oh, this is so embarrassing..." Eleanor groaned, hiding her face in her hands.

"What do you say, Eleanor?" Charlie asked. "Will you do it?"

"Absolutely, I will" Eleanor answered. She opened her mouth to say something else, but then closed her mouth just as quickly, shaking her head as well.

"What is it, Eleanor?" Rose asked.

"It's a silly idea" She muttered.

Willy laughed as he shook his head. "There's no such thing as a silly idea! All silly ideas are the best ideas"

"Okay then" Eleanor said and then she asked her question. "Do the Oompa-Loompas know how to play any instruments by chance? If I'm going to be playing at your wedding, I'd like a band of Oompa-Loompas"

"That's a wonderful idea!" Willy said excitedly, clapping his hands. "What do you think, starshine?"

"It is!" Rose agreed. "The Oompa-Loompas are talented musicians"

Willy then added on. "You can come to the factory tomorrow and start arranging things with them. They'll be really excited. They like to perform in front of an audience"

Eleanor grew an excited grin. "I'll definitely be there!" She then let out an excited squeal. "This is gonna be so much fun!"

After lunch, the three of them decided to stick around for a bit. Charlie was with Tina and Stan in the living room. They were playing a fun tune on the piano and singing a song to it. It's clear where Eleanor's musical talents came from. Rose and Willy stayed with Eleanor in the kitchen. She was showing them a scrapbook filled with her and the many instruments she's played over the years.

"When did you learn to play so many instruments?" Rose asked.

"Oh, I don't know" Eleanor said with a shrug. "My dad used to be in a rock band and my mum used to be in an orchestra. I guess music is just in my blood"

A particular picture in the album caught Willy's attention, mostly because it was Eleanor with an instrument he had never seen before. "Ellie, what's this one called?" Willy asked, pointing to the long instrument resembling a tube.

"Oh, that's a didgeridoo" Eleanor answered.

"Didgeridoo" Willy repeated. An amused giggle came out of his mouth. "That's fun to say!" Rose giggled with Willy as she held onto his arm and leaned against him.

Eleanor smiled at both of them. It was easy to see that they were so in love with each other. Now, one of Eleanor's flaws was that she was a nosy person, especially when it came to relationships. Curiosity got the best of Eleanor so she couldn't stop herself from asking. "What are your plans for after the wedding?"

Rose looked over to Eleanor. "I don't know. Carry on with life as usual, I suppose. The only difference is that we'll be married"

"No, no. I mean, what are you going to do after the wedding?" Eleanor asked again with a raise of her eyebrows.

Willy furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "We're not following what you mean, Eleanor"

Eleanor knew that hinting at it wasn't getting anywhere. So, she had to be straightforward. "Are you two planning on having your first time together on the night of your wedding?"

Rose and Willy both fell incredibly silent. Both of them knew what she had meant. They tried to meet each other's eyes but they couldn't. Having sex with each other was something that they hadn't discussed.

Eleanor realized that she had went too far by asking and her face dropped. "Oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked" She could hear her mother calling for her. "Mum wants me. Please, excuse me" Eleanor left, leaving Rose and Willy alone.

There was silence between the two of them, before Willy broke it. "Do you want to talk about it?"

Rose looked at him. "About what?"

"You know..." Willy paused as he shifted in his seat. "It "

"Oh, that" She looked down at her hands which were folded in her lap. "Would you want to?"

"Of course I would" Willy admitted shyly, a smile forming on his face and a blush coming to his cheeks. "But only if you want to"

Rose looked up again, giving Willy a loving smile. "I would" She reached over to place hand on his cheek. Willy closed his eyes and nuzzled into her hand. "I love you, cocoa bean"

"I love you too, starshine" They both leaned in, connecting their lips in a passionate kiss.

Neither of them noticed Charlie or Eleanor standing in the doorway, watching them with smiles on their faces. "You must be really happy that they're getting married" Eleanor said to Charlie.

"Very" Charlie said. He looked up and noticed the deep-in-thought look upon Eleanor's face. "What are you thinking, Ellie?"

"Your sister and future brother are giving me an idea for a song" She explained.

"You write songs?" Charlie asked curiously.

"From time to time" She looked down at Charlie. "I want to surprise them with the song at their wedding. That means you can't tell them"

"Your secret is safe with me" Charlie assured. Eleanor thanked Charlie with a hug. She then walked back into the living room, humming a tune that popped up into her head. Charlie had no doubts that it was the song Eleanor was going to sing for Rose and Willy.

Charlie reached into his pocket and pulled out the wedding to do list that Rose entrusted him with. He found a pen and checked music off the list. That only left a few more things to do. All that was left now was decorations, food and the cake, and the floral arrangement for Rose's bouquet.

Top Albums of 2020

I was tagged by the amazing @joonni to list my top nine twelve albums of 2020! This was honestly so hard, but so fun. I love any tags to do with music xD (Your music taste was amazing btw! Sorry I went a little crazy and did a few extra lol.) Thanks lovie 💓

I went with the albums that I loved as whole (aka I loved most, if not all, of the songs) and listened to the most this year. Some choices have deeper meanings, while others were just flat-out enjoyable. I also stuck with albums that came out this year only, but I wasn’t sure if that was inherently part of the challenge. I wasn’t too picky on the criteria, just went with the ones that made up the score for my 2020. All albums have Spotify links incase something catches your eye! (Apologies for my extra-ness; I added recommendations from each album and a brief...ish explanation as to why it made the list.)

Also, they’re in no particular order, because this was difficult enough...

Map of the Soul: 7 by BTS

Explanation — This album was my first comeback as part of the BTS Army. There are so many tracks that I adore, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was so excited for music. It breathed life into my Spotify, it was the album I listened to the most this year, and Black Swan was my most listened song. The differing music genres that they played with, all the way from orchestral to trap to hip hop and synth pop, left me more and more excited as the songs progressed. If there was a #1 on this list, it would be MOTS:7.

Highlights — Interlude: Shadow, Black Swan, ON, We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal

Zero: Fever Part.1 by Ateez

Explanation — This was the soundtrack to my summer. I hadn’t heard much from Ateez, but what I had heard, I wasn’t a huge fan of? Maybe I hadn’t been grabbed yet, but oh boy. Zero: Fever definitely did that. Every track is such high energy and memorable, so it was so hard to pick favorites! I’ll always think back on this one for summer, and will be transported back to plenty of sunset commutes.

Highlights — Fever, Thanxx, One Day At A Time

The Dream Chapter: Eternity by Tomorrow x Together

Explanation — Until this mini album, I had only listened to TXT in passing. I liked their stuff, but I feel like this is where they really found their stride. TDC:E caught me totally off-guard, in the best way possible. To me at least, this one is a work of art. Each of the six tracks is so entrancing, and so different from each other while still working together as a cohesive story. And don’t even get me started on the MVs! This is an album that I listen to for feels and fun, which to me, TXT are just brilliant at. 

Highlights — Fairy of Shampoo, Maze in the Mirror, Eternally

Dystopia: The Tree of Language by Dreamcatcher

Explanation — It took me forever to find a girl group that I could really stan, like hardcore. This comeback for Dreamcatcher was when I realized they were it for me. This album in particular is so diverse. Their voices are both haunting and beautiful, and the way they interweave rock/alternative elements into their music has always turned my ear. They are so different from so many other girl groups out there, from the sound to their stage presence to their aesthetic. I will never stop talking about them, and this album really shows the best of their work thus far.

Highlights — Red Sun, Sahara, Paradise

BE by BTS

Explanation — How could BE not be on this list? What a perfect end to a shitty year. There’s something so comforting yet uplifting about this one, and I will happily admit I cried when I first heard Blue & Grey. Who am I kidding, I still do. There’s only one other artist I have listed on here with two albums, so BTS is in good company. What more is there to say other than BE was the warm hug we all needed.

Explanation — This is another group that I hadn’t listened to much before this album. I was so surprised and excited. Every song that passed, I found myself smiling more. Their voices are astoundingly beautiful, and the songs are sickeningly catchy. Another album that I go to just to have fun. It’s one of my favorites to just put on when a day is good, but doesn’t Seventeen make it a little better regardless?

The Untamed by various

Explanation — If you’ve seen the Chinese drama The Untamed, then you know exactly why this is on there. This album is a collection of songs that are themes for the characters in the show, most of which are sung by the actors themselves. Let me tell you; I don’t know a lick of Mandarin, but these are some of the most stunning songs I’ve ever heard. It’s one of the things that drew me to the drama to begin with; everything, including the music, is breathtaking. The classical Chinese sound plays so well with the character’s stories and singer’s vocals. They tell stories all on their own and give the drama so much depth. Even if you’re not a fan of the show or webtoon it’s based on, give this one a listen. You won’t be disappointed!

Humanity (Chapters I & II) by Thomas Bergersen

Explanation — If you know anything about me, you know how important orchestral music is to me. It’s been a huge part of my music journey ever since I was in middle school. Thomas Bergersen has been my favorite composer for years; the way he integrates the classical with the modern is just...there are no words. These two albums cannot be listed separately; they’re part of a seven-part project titled Humanity. Chapters I & II came out in 2020, and honestly, I have no words. The way he tells a story through almost entirely lyric-less work is just immaculate. I’ve never felt more powerful, emotional, or inspired than when listening to these two. I cried when I first heard Your Imagination and Materialize. No matter how I am feeling, whether I need inspiration or hope or just some peace of mind, I go here. I’ve never felt more healed than when listening to his work. If you take a chance to listen to anything on this list, PLEASE. Give these a try.

Brightest Blue by Ellie Goulding

Explanation — I don’t listen to a ton of western music that isn’t orchestral or lofi, but I used to adore Ellie Goulding. Halcyon was my entire teen-hood. When I saw she came out with a new album this year, I gave it a listen for sentimentality reasons. And boy, I still love her. Her voice is both angelic and haunting, and her sound is so unique. The messages given in these songs are powerful, potent, a tad bit bittersweet, and especially valid for young women navigating adult life. Also the instrumentals backing her vocals are often big and grand and symphonic, filled with piano and violin. That’s enough to get me to listen. And to top it all off, the collabs she has on this album are so fitting for each track, it’s absolutely beautiful.

Beneath Your Waves by Sleepy Fish

Explanation — If there’s one kind of music that shuts off the little anxiety bug in my brain and gets me to work, one that isn’t as intense as orchestral music and that doesn’t put me into sensory overload like orchestral sometimes does, it’s lofi. And Sleepy Fish does it so freakin’ well. This album that came out this year is one of my most often repeated over and over. When I’m struggling with sensory issues at work, I put this one repeat and my mind just...goes...quiet. It’s like medicine. And the tunes are so catchy and sweet. I’m instantly transported to someplace magical, some seaside city straight out of a Ghibli film, and far away from the things that are troubling me. Then I can finally get some work done, get to sleep, or just quiet my mind. If you struggle with sensory issues or anxiety like I do, give this album a shot. Also, the album titled My Room Becomes The Sea from 2019 is excellent.

WOOPS! by Woodz

Explanation — Another mini album that is just a blast to listen to, but it also has such a soft side that hits me in the feels. I don’t see a lot of people talking about Woodz, but you all should give him a listen. He’s so talented, and his voice on this one is just *chef’s kiss* everything. The mixing is also impeccable and pairs so well with his vocals.

Highlights — Bump Bump, On my own, Sweater, Tide

D-2 by Agust D

Explanation — I mean, we all knew this one was gonna be dope. Yoongi did not disappoint. This mixtape is so different from most of the stuff I listen to, but I absolutely adored it. The truth and rhythm and pure talent in each and every verse stuns me still. I find myself especially drawn to this one when I’m frustrated (not exclusively, but often, ‘cause 2020.) Both his truth and sound give me a safe place to feel that frustration and anxiety and vent/work through it. I don’t know what it is about Yoongi, but to me, all of his work is like a comforting friend going, “Hey, you’re totally valid and okay for feeling this way...but it sucks, doesn’t it?”
