i'm long used to the MXTX fandom spawning bizarre fanons but i'll never get over how so many SVSSS fans (and i'd say specifically english-speaking fans) treat SY as some socially awkward shut-in for literally no reason. y'all are talking about the guy who got thrown into the body of the meanest and aloofest peak lord on all of CQM and immediately got his cover blown by having hours long friendly chats with YQY and casually inviting fellow peak lords over for tea and snacks. he's more extroverted than like 80% of this cursed site's user base.

General rule of thumb, but if someone says that physically assaulting someone to vent your anger is abusive, and you respond by arguing that it depends on the kind of physical assault (whipping, slapping, beating) that is being inflicted on which kind of individual (child, friend, servant, person of lower status) by what kind of person (their parent, random adult), then maybe it’s time to admit that you simply support abusive behavior. Because if you have to add a thousand and one caveats to a simple statement, you probably just don’t agree with that simple statement 💀

i feel like its bc they want to have complete control over how fandom at large gets to perceive the characters. a lot of BNFs back in the day hated on sj and a lot of the translators had an anti sj bias. so sympathizing with sj at ALL is seen as a threat. you should be kissing ass to the BNFs opinions and only making canon couple artwork. they dont seem to like sj stans but then they are still in our comments looking at our art and writing and complaining that it isnt sy instead the same people who usually shit on sj stans are the type of sy/lbh stans that ironically refuse to see the flaws in their own faves. tbh i think that irl ALL of the sv characters would be kinda shitty people besides like.... gyx.... and they killed him off. sj abusing lbh was wrong but sy being an internet hater is also wrong. sy manipulating ppl is understandable bc he was literally trying to stay alive but it was also wrong. lbh constantly fighting the sects, using other ppl to support his own cultivation, beating up shl, ignoring sy's boundaries over and over and threatening to literally destroy the sect so that sy has nowhere to go back to all of this is morally bad irl!!!!! but it doesnt matter!! bc they are fictional!! there are plenty of ppl who enjoy both sy and sj and acknowledge that they are both great characters with interesting quirks and neurosis without having to go on and on about how much better sy is than sj. the people that make those kinds of comparisons just want to use sj as a scapegoat to cover up sy's flaws. which is sad bc his flaws are what make him an interesting character

i think that its kind of telling too.... that as sj fans we've had people harass us and send death threats and gore into a private sj stan discord server and try to doxx people over having cute sj head canons and tell us that we must be abuse apologists irl bc of what fictional chinese homosexual we stan....

and this is coming from a subset of ppl who stan an internet hater.... and also want to claim that your fave internet characters are an indicator of your irl morality....

i think that for some people they are simply haters. and if sy was hater but still sooooooo """nice"""" and totally morally superior to this other character.... then its a way they can justify to themselves their own internet hater behavior your tastes in fictional characters say nothing about your irl morality. but the way you treat actual people in the fandom youre in says a lot. let people stan whoever they want even if you dont like that chara and mind your own business is what i say

I didn’t think this before, but the more I keep seeing this yqy/sj debacle discourse, the more I am convinced that this is another wwx/jc golden core situation, from both a story standpoint—both wwx and yqy sacrifice for jc and sj, respectively, but keep their sacrifices a secret for fear of the likely negative response to it, for which wwx is validated while sj never finds out about the sacrifice—and a fandom standpoint—“wwx/yqy is sooooo selfish for sacrificing for jc/sj and not telling him!” “The beneficiaries of someone else’s goodwill are entitled to know who helped them, how, and why, and to withhold this information makes the goodwill and the person who did it actually bad!”

even though it's genuinely infuriating and hypocritical, as a Shen Jiu Stan TM i've come to acknowledge that sv fans will regularly make "REMINDER shen jiu is a bitter/hateful/abusive person who CHOSE to be miserable" (the latter point is very like. What. Bc he obviously did not choose to be abused/abandoned etc but whatever) while never making those posts about binghe or even actively denying his abuses of other people... i've even seen people refer to him as a good person, while - judging them by the criteria you judge shen jiu - bingmei is actually still a bad one and bingge ESPECIALLY is! and then claiming that shen jiu stans don't acknowledge his Inherent Badness or love him for who he is. lmao.

BUT the most egregious claim of all about shen jiu that i've seen is that he was somehow abusive to yue qingyuan? and i've been a yue qingyuan defender since 2018! i've been in the trenches for this guy! qijiu is THE sv ship for me! i have a lot of sympathy for yqy and understanding of his trauma, and i understand how much shen jiu seeming to hate him must have hurt him. he's a blorbo to me. BUT it's not abusive to not want to be around someone or to avoid them, i'm sorry. shen jiu was hurt first, by his belief that yue qingyuan abandoned him to be abused or even killed, and as a result of that he stopped wanting to be around or talk to yqy unless he had to, and when he has to, as they're coworkers, he's very frostily polite and taciturn. he's not even mean to him!!! because he understands the dynamics of the sect and that yqy is the leader!!! he's just cold. even as disciples the only 'mean' things he says are that he doesn't want yqy to talk to him unless he gives him an explanation, and that he doesn't want to be called "xiao jiu" ever again. it might be harsh, but at the end of the day it's literally just him asserting his own boundaries, and yqy gets this bc as much as it may hurt him to hear it, he respects them! HE understands that if he's allowed to keep the boundary of not telling sj why he didn't come back, sj is also allowed to keep boundaries that keep yqy from interacting with him in an intimate or casual manner. somehow to the "remember shen jiu is to blame for all his own pain" people, this is cruel on sj's part, but sj being led to believe the one person who loved him actually never did and would happily leave him to rot as an abused slave is not cruel.

also we should remember that even when shen jiu is genuinely furious with yqy bc of the level of his hurt, he is not honest with himself about how he truly feels. he thinks once, as a teenager in probably the most painful moment of his life (and this is someone who has been abused every single way), that he'd rather find out yqy died than find out he became successful and happy and Chose to leave sj there. and he uses this momentary thought he had Once to remind himself over and over that he's inherently rotten and a bad person who just wants to drag yqy down and doesn't want to see him happy... yet on THREE occassions when he sees yqy in imminent harm, his immediate reaction is to jump in and save him (or attempt to) at the risk of his own life. when faced with the prospect of yqy dying because of his allegiance to sj, shen jiu doesn't display hatred or jealousy or revenge but accepts that his true feelings all along have been: he doesn't want yue qingyuan to die or suffer, especially not for him, he regrets meeting him only because he hates that he has had a negative effect on yqy's life, and he doesn't blame yue qingyuan for leaving him behind after all. shen jiu is outwardly cold to yue qingyuan but actually shows him a huge amount of love and loyalty. luo binghe, shen jiu's most obvious parallel in the story and the one commonly treated as 'better' than him (bingmei ver at least) lashes out and reacts with actual cruelty at shen yuan's perceived abandonment of him (when healing sy with the blood parasites i remember him purposefully causing him pain to try to torture answers out of him) but people will immediately jump to deny that he has ever or would ever abuse sy.

How funny would it be if the system SY was assigned is a vehement SJ stan. It's known as the 'nr 1 SJ defender' among the other systems and will not let anyone talk shit about its blorbo.

System begs to get SY as its next assignment so it can pay him back for all the SQQ castration campaigns and slanderous rants. System is downright offended on its dear misunderstood meow meow's behalf and intend to make it SYs problem.

What better way for SY to atone than to force him to make SJs life better?

And how infuriating would it be if, after SY is forced to spend time together with SJ, he realizes SJ isn't as bad as the book made him to be? If SY can appreciate his sharp tongue and clever mind. If he actually starts to enjoy spending time with SJ. (The system will never learn of this)
