If you want to freak out a New Yorker today, tell them about how St. Louis cuts their bagels (objectively incorrectly).

let’s be tourists
My first published story here
Tumblr media
prompt: tourist!mason x local!female-reader
mason mount and his girlfriend take a quick vacation to New York during his break. mason enjoys visiting his lover’s city.
word count: 461
warnings: minor grammar issues.
all pictures used are not owned by me <3
—> 8 am
“mason, it’s been years since i’ve been here.” you looked over at JFK in shock at the changes.
he looked at you with so much love. your face was piercing with excitement.
“funny how i’ve never visited sooner with how much you talked about it,” he laughed softly while trying to navigate his way to baggage claim. he squeezed your hand tightly in hopes of you trying not to get carried away by the upgraded airport.
“what should we even do today. i know we’re here for two weeks but there’s so much you can do in this city.” you tried to process everything that was happening at once. you passed by the gate that was the last thing you saw before leaving for england.
“check-in to our hotel is an hour, but we’ll get there on time if we take an uber after we get our bags. maybe after we can go into times square. i was also looking at tickets to the empire state building.” mason was busy looking around to find your bags, but he didn’t realize you were looking at him in pure disgust.
“mason, we’re in new york city. there is a lot of activities instead of tourist attractions,” you sighed at his decisions. “if you did want to go to times square, we could go at night. i just want to take our first day easy.”
“this is where concrete dreams are made of, no? i’m just referencing how you were when first moving into fulham. doesn’t hurt to be a tourist.” he slowly bent down to grab your light blue suitcase.
“no, it doesn’t hurt. i was thinking of breakfast right now. it’s only 8 am and i want to grab bagels before the streets are fully awake.” he nodded in agreement since the airline food wasn’t as enjoyable then expected.
————————————————————
-> 3 pm
“i wanna go to the Louis Vuitton store,” mason slowly told you while walking towards the entrance of the famous fifth avenue.
“i don’t think the store will compare to the one on bond street though. more exclusive and have a greater selection." you replied to him while admiring st patrick’s cathedral.
“says the one who won’t stop talking about this city,” he laughed while trying to fix his sunglasses with one hand, the other occupied with your fingers being intertwined. “i vote that we go to times square after your daily shopping. i would love some pictures of you on my instagram.” he shrugged slightly.
you looked down, shy at the fact he wanted to show you off. “looks like london boy knows a way to my heart. i don't mind going. i really wanna go to the line friends store."

Random thoughts:
I’m going to miss this period of being home with Ender so much. It just isn’t financially feasible for me to continue to stay at home once Ender is in school full-time, and to be honest, it’s not mentally feasible for me either. I need something to do to fill my downtime now that I can’t workout and train like I used to, and we could absolutely use the money. I am just hoping I can strike a good work/life balance so I don’t feel like I’m doing it all, but badly.
I realized this morning that I’ve been drinking caffeinated coffee all week. And my body feels okay! I also can’t believe I was able to have that vodka seltzer on Saturday. I was a little worried I was making a stupid choice when I drank it, but I really wanted to sit poolside and have a drink with my SIL’s. I don’t miss alcohol, but sometimes I do miss little experiences like having a drink socially. Drinking something non-alcohol is fine. I don’t even like alcohol, lol, and I don’t mind having something else, but it’s never quite the same. And I don’t really like being stoned when I have to be social, I always feel so slow or delayed.
Now that my bagel wound has healed and my energy is better I’ve been hitting CrossFit and sandbag workouts again and I’ve really been surprising and impressing myself. I’m getting much better at handstand movements now that I practice them routinely. My speed on things like running is not great but I still have a lot of stamina somehow. And I got the ROM back for pull-ups and got three strict ones the other day. I still can’t really do any kipping movements, but I will get there. There is no rush. Also, before the lupus flared I had moved up to the 30# sandbag for goruck workouts, the dropped back to 20# once I was able to get started again, and now I’m not only back up to 30# but I’m beating Shawn in workouts with it, which is extremely satisfying.
I’m really liking this summer and we have settled into a good weekly rhythm with activities. Swim lessons are on Monday and Fridays; I coach CrossFit on Tuesday mornings and Friday evenings so Ender gets grandparent time then; Wednesdays are “adventure” days; we have soccer on Thursdays and Saturdays; and then on the weekends Ender gets one-on-one time with dad while I work out and then Ender and I usually do pool time with cousins in the afternoons. We’re going to do some little day or weekend trips instead of a big trip with Ender this summer; probably a local waterpark this month, St. Louis for the zoo and parks in July, and Chicago for the aquarium and the air and water show with some friends in August. However, if I can find a good deal for GWL anytime this summer, I will probably take it since I still hate that Ender got so sick and couldn’t enjoy most of his waterpark trip in January. He’s over it, but I am still sad for him, lol.

This is a hate crime of the same caliber as St. Louis trying to slice a bagel
i keep seeing people talk about their bfs/husbands weaponizing incompetence to avoid grocery shopping or purposefully fucking it up. mine doesn't do that he'll shop on his own prerogative like an actually functional adult, his issue is he occasionally brings home a Cursed Item

St. Louis Cardinals Hope to Save Season as Underdogs
Oliver Marmol wanted a bagel on Saturday morning. This is New York, so it should have been easy to get one. But this is also 2023, and Marmol manages the St. Louis Cardinals. Nothing comes easily. “It didn’t work out,” Marmol said. “The line was outrageous. The door guy at the hotel said to just skip the line and walk in. I thought about it, maybe that’s a thing. Dine-Out Meals of May 2023, Ranked (Part 2)
I ranked the following based on taste alone. I made no consideration for ambiance or the general dining experience or whatever. I included meals I got to go. I included food trucks, catered meals, and fast food.
I haven’t confirmed, but I believe this is the most restaurant meals I’ve ever eaten in a single month, mostly due to time spent on the road. So many meals that I’ve apparently hit the character limit for Tumblr. I’ll have to break it up into two posts. I posted the top 20 meals earlier. This list is 21-52, despite the appearance that it's 1-32.
Should you be interested in the pictures or reading the few words I had to say about each meal, click on the home page and scroll down or see the archives.
