just a quick question, with Starlight's horn which is separated into two points... did that mutation benefit her magic? and how?

it does benefit her magic! Here's a diagram of how unicorn horns work. Each horn is two single-tine antlers spiraled around each other, and the shape channels the magic of the user around and around in tighter and tighter coils, which concentrates it at the tip and allows them to cast spells.

Tempest Shadow's horn is a chaotic, twisting mess, which means that the magic spills out the broken tips and corners before she can direct it into a real spell. Loose, potent magic without a spell to act on can be very volatile.

Starlight Glimmer, on the other hand, was both lucky enough to have a mutation she could work with, and skilled enough to figure out how to channel her magic into her strange horn in a way that enhanced its potency rather than having it fire off uncontrolled.

Instead of reaching the tip and exiting the horn, she sends her magic through the air between her horn tips into a powerful loop of swirling, concentrating magic. While most unicorns' power grows with how many twists their horn has, Starlight's grows with how long she lets it sit in the holding pattern before unleashing a spell.

This means that the only limit to how much power she can wield is based not on her horn loops, but on how much she is able to swirl at the tip of her horn before losing control. And since she is always working to perfect her technique, her power is unparalleled by all but the most ancient unicorns.

As a foal, her home village wrote her off as barely even a unicorn, because she hadn't figured out how to control the magic of her "defective" horn. But she'll show them. She will show them all.

Quick refresher on unicorns! They are a species of deer with two antlers that twist around each other in a spiral. They shed their horn every year during puberty, and then they shed again for significant milestones during adulthood.

Starlight Glimmer's horn is mutated and always grows back the same way, while Tempest Shadow's antler bud is permanently injured and cannot form a functional horn no matter how much she tries.

The Vamprus virus changes healthy horns into a strange, fanglike shape. They cannot use magic in the same way, but have a new power. These untwisted antlers act as dousing rods for the user, allowing them to detect magic in the environment that would be indistinguishable to the common unicorn.

Vamrus-infected unicorns often seek out magic to quench their thirst. Flam here uses it to find exploitable new items to sell as the next big thing, or to promise gullible ponies that his curative tonic has magic in its ingredients when it's just apple juice and beet leaves.

Interpreting weird skins is always an interesting challenge...the two main "words" were "sheep" and "crochet", between the horns/hooves, big sweater and legwarmers, and the shape of the hair (the side tufts are meant to be reminiscent of sheep ears). Obviously the yarn bun at the back matches the magenta wool skin.

The grey patches are supposed to look like improperly rendered chunks, not sure if that was a good decision; the chromatic aberration on the glitch particles is colour-picked from his other skin, which is fun. Vines and arrow for SSG.

Most of my thoughts/observations on The Dark Ages' trailer

It's long and copypasted but

"BEFORE HE BECAME A HERO", He always was, though this unintentionally gives a point to people who think Slayer could've been a seperate character from Doomguy

Sentinel Prime on fire, i see floating rocks and castles. Could be Sentinel related like the Fortress in DE and we also see a pentagram in the sky

Sentinel ship hits a building, i also think that ship shooting stuff is demonic

Giant demonic castle with skull. Hope that thing is both a location and "alive"

Floating place reminds me of 2016 MP Empyrian. Maybe the Sentinels either build it as a tribute to or got it from the Maykrs

Slayer has a fur cape. Always expected this to happen, whether it's a superhero thing or even a Berserk reference

Regardless, lots of good stuff.

It will obviously have that prequel issue of "cool new stuff that will not be addressed in the follow ups that came later" but Doom is also a series i think is fun because the setting is a mess, so at that point you start to think more of "is cool" than "is logical".

The game seems solid and it shows they did suddenly start making it after being done with TAG2, even if i still worry about the dev cycicles and think the release of a new Doom should be special. So after this game, id should calm down.

It's also lot more Sentinel focused, probably the least UAC presence in a Doom game.

A weird idea i had was if they could still use the name "Year Zero" for a small campaign with an ARC guy during Hell's invasion on Earth.

Basically, if id makes a campaign that is like half the lenght of Dark Ages (If the main game itself is also like 13 chapters) but about a UAC soldier with new weapons and cool locations on Earth, maybe that could balance the Sentinel focus due to the UAC always being more prominent.

Some say the gameplay could be closer to classic Doom, which can mean a lot because personally, i associate some of old Doom's traits with even engine stuff and also on why the new games play differently.

What matters is that the new stuff is good.

Wailing Dunes, an observation

Fought Radahn last night on my second build, and post-fight I looked down at the ground and noticed something:

Many of the weapons buried in the sand there are miniature Starscourge Greatswords.

(Excuse the absolute potato quality, took this with my 10 year old phone camera)

From could’ve put any model of sword there, so the use of the SSGS feels deliberate.

Which makes me imagine the older or higher ranked Redmane soldiers who fought with Radahn during the Shattering wielding the swords and donning similar armor (the helmets in the above pic also having horns - though not in the same place as the horn-tusks on Radahn’s helm, they do somewhat echo them - which modern Radahn solders don’t have), being like “Look General, we match!”, and Radahn being very proud and/or flattered.

Whether you were spectating your teammates or waiting for a 1v1 in the gulag, everyone is returned back in the game. When Jailbreak occurs, every eliminated player returns into the game. They occur for a limited time only, and only one type of event can occur at a time in a single game. The three events are Jailbreak, Fire Sale, and Supply Chopper. They can affect and alter your gameplay and approach. These events will occur randomly when you're playing Warzone. There are three different types of in-game events introduced in the game. Other variants can be unlocked by completing different challenges set for them. Just like other Mil-Sim Operator Skins, these also have variants indicated by the I, II, and III at the end of their names.

Hello, I’m a new follower and tried looking around for an answer and didn’t see one, so I hope this isn’t a repeat question. You said your unicorns more closely related to deer than horses, so I was wondering if they shed their antlers or velvet as they grow?

havent decided yet! But because deer do it, initially unicorns do too. Each year the antlers form another coil, so you can count the age of a young unicorn by how striped their horn is! (don't count the coils on my drawings, I dont intend to respect this lore in my art)

but thats why alicorn horns are smooth. they're just so many horizontal coils they look like one solid form. Of course, full ascended alicorns would only shed once every century or so, if at all.

Maybe that's what happened to nightmare moon, she had her horn ripped off and had to spend millenia growing a new one, and when she did it came back all wrong.

I think as unicorns get older, they shed their horns less and less often, eventually settling on a final horn around middle age. Because coil number often correlates to how powerful their magic is (barring mutation/injury) a unicorn with a lot of power will continue to shed and regrow their horn even as they grow ancient. Starswirl the Bearded is one such example.

Leonid Slutsky called the report of the PACE Bureau on MN17 an intrusion into the competence of the investigation

The deputy head of the Russian delegation to PACE, Leonid Slutsky, commenting on the decision of the bureau of the assembly to prepare a report on the situation with the crash of MN17, indicated that such an initiative is an invasion of the competence of the investigation.

Earlier, the head of one of the political groups of the Assembly, Tini Cox, said that the PACE Bureau at the meeting on Friday agreed to prepare a report on the situation of the Malaysian Boeing flight MN17 in 2014 in Ukraine.

“The investigation itself about the MN17 catastrophe is politically biased for the sole purpose of denigrating and demonizing Russia. Here the motivation is absolutely the same,” said RIA Novosti Slutsky, speaking of this initiative.

“I doubt that this is done from the motives of establishing the truth,” the deputy added.

In addition, the preparation of such reports at parliamentary sites is an intrusion into the competence of the investigation, he said.

The deputy believes that “the Russophobian aggressive minority cannot accept the return of the delegation of the Russian Federation to the PACE platform.”

“Anti-Russian initiatives will now crumble from the horn of plenty. We did not expect that it would be easy and simple to work,” he said.

“But we will work, we will bring the position of Russia to the European public and tell the truth about all those events where the West is trying to whitewash Kiev and make Moscow guilty a priori,” Slutsky concluded.

Malaysian Boeing, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur flight MH17, crashed on July 17, 2014 near Donetsk. On board were 298 people, they all died. Kiev blamed the crash for the militia, they said they did not have the means that would allow the aircraft to be shot down at that altitude. According to the Russian Federation, the plane was shot down by a Ukrainian rocket.

The Joint Investigation Group (SSG), which, under the direction of the Prosecutor General of the Netherlands without the participation of the Russian Federation, is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the crash, later presented interim results. The investigation claims that Boeing was shot down from the Buk air defense missile system, which belonged to the 53rd anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Russian Armed Forces from Kursk. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the SSG accusations of Russia’s involvement in the collapse of the Malaysian Boeing are unfounded and regrettable, the investigation is biased and one-sided. Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia was not allowed to investigate the liner’s disaster in eastern Ukraine, and Moscow could recognize the results of the investigation if it would take full part in it. All the rockets, the engine from which was demonstrated by the Dutch commission to investigate the MH17 crash, were disposed of after 2011, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov has repeatedly stated that Russia categorically rejects accusations of involvement in the collapse of the Malaysian Boeing.

oh god this makes me want to draw my mlp oc as your take on ponies-

anywho i have two things to say: one- how many colors do pure unicorn horns come in and two- i just wanted to share that i have my own mlp spec bio and part of it is that pegasai are bioluminescent because they eat primarily bioluminescent plants and bugs, just thought it'd be a neat thing t share with you

they tend to be solid colors but can have a lot of subtle variations. if you're really special you have two different colored antlers coiling around each other

And Fluttershy isn't the only one. Strange transformations overtook several ponies, affecting them in different ways depending on their species.

A pair of unicorns, once identical twins, one half afflicted by the same malady. While the pegasus' bird wings warped and shifted, the unicorn's swirled antlers regrew into a fanglike shape.

Meanwhile, a young horse found herself with sharpened canines, shaggy fur - and just like the others - a hearty appetite for apple juice.

So what do these three have in common to undergo such drastic changes? Was it being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Or perhaps getting a little too close to nature during cider season.

The Flimflam brothers tried ripping up entire trees to press into substandard cider, earning the ire of wildlife nesting in the branches. Apple Bloom decided to try out "pest wranglin'" as her life's calling.

And Fluttershy... Poor Fluttershy.

She didn't want to do this. But her friend insisted she help get rid of the unusual feral bats in the orchard using her animal skills. But the most important part of animal handling is knowing when to leave them alone.

One shouldn't tamper with nature.

Nature is a balancing act, a beautiful dance of give and take. Millions of years of evolution have crafted systems and relationships more complex than ponies can begin to understand.

One such system is that of the Vampire Fruit Bat, its target species of tree, the seeds, and a symbiotic relationship between all these plus a gene-altering virus that makes them what they are.

You see, millenia ago these bats were simple fruit eaters, munching through small fruits and spreading the seeds through their digestion. But over time, they acquired a virus that changed their physiology, making them grow bigger, with piercing fangs and a unique gut biome that thrived off the juices of larger fruits.

Large fruited trees like apples and pears evolved to be eaten by megafauna such as horses, but certain tree species benefited from a relationship with strange new bats. The trees changed their reproductive cycles to depend on Fruitvam interference in order to grow into healthy trees. Apples typically have a certain amount of moisture in them, but Pire Apples have an extremely high juice content due to their relationship with Fruitvam bats.

The bats are attracted to fruit with the highest juice content, which their virus-evolved bodies demand. The seeds pass through the bats' gut and are then laid in nutrient-rich guano (bat manure), which exponentially increases the seeds' growing capacity. While the juicy fruit attracts the bats, it is not as good for nourishing the seeds, so the apple tree depends as much on the bats as they do the tree.

The trip through the bat digestive system changes the seeds into more robust, high-yield trees that produce extremely juicy apples. The best cider is pressed from an orchard with a healthy bat population, even though they intimidate farmers at first by devouring their crops. If juices and cider products are a staple export, it's worth it to establish the bats as part of your land management.

Unfortunately, not everyone understands or cares about the balance of nature. You can try to eradicate them, but you must be very careful when doing so.

Bats carry many diseases, but Vampire Fruit Bats carry a particularly virulent condition that defines their life and environment. To the bats, the Vamprus is part of them, and they would not exist without it. They are not mere hosts to a virus, but invaluable partners with mutual benefit.

Fruitvams are born with vamprus, but they still secrete it in their saliva. This is a holdover from when it was a harmful, rabies-like virus that spread through bats biting each other. It does have some effect on their mind, drawing them to seek out juice-rich fruits at the height of ripeness, but this is what the food chain needs, so it is no longer a harmful behavior. They are not aggressive, and have no desire to bite living creatures, bats or otherwise.

However, if one handles a Vampire Fruit Bat with bare hooves, or harasses a nest, they will fight back. Ponies who have been bitten usually escape unscathed, as they are not the definitive host of the Vamprus virus. Those who do develop symptoms, however, need swift treatment or changes become permanent. After the virus leaves their systems, afflicted ponies will no longer be controlled by their desire to drink from apples' flesh, but they will always have a hunger for it.

Some ponies who tangled with bats can be so mildly affected they never even realized they were infected, with no indication save for minor changes... and an insatiable desire for cider.
