Hello yes I am intensely curious about what the WIP titled "Clogged Shower Thoughts" is

It's an unfinished Lethal Company drabble that serves as a character exploration of one of my OCs, Mat the Inventory Appraiser. Mostly it focuses on his life post-life changing TBI and the loss of his twin brother.

It's a pretty miserable experience due to the position he was forced into, especially since Mat isn't... In the best state of mind or the easiest guy to get along with. Also his brother's ghost is very much haunting him, so overall his sanity is not great due to paranormal influences nor can he really move on from this tragedy.

Here's a snippet:

Eventually Mat unclogs the drain. The water swirls back down in a soothing manner that calms him more than actually getting under the hot spray. He's grown numb to the flitting comfort of a hot shower. It's just a flimsy little luxury The Company offers to appease the naive. He's not that gullible anymore. He dutifully ignores the unreachable figure beyond the misted glass. Scrubs himself down and doesn't stare at the hand-prints that form outside of the barrier between himself and the rest of the ship interior. Tries not to falter when a frowny face is carefully doodled above said hand-prints.

(now i'm just thinking about the things i associate with you. i'll save the waxing poetic for like a christmas card or something but hi i love you you're never escaping the "sharks")

Tulpa's Schoolwork Connundrum (Lo Ruyot (Into the Past))

Scowling down at the flimsy sheets he'd been given by Mrs Bramblehill, the young boy couldn't help but curse his teacher's name as he found himself at an impasse. The assignment itself wasn't the problem. Everyone and their brother could map out their family tree.

The problem was, while most of his aunts, uncle and ba'voduse of the Guard could tell him all about their extended family (batchmates, squads and battalions they belonged to), two very important figures in his life refused to do the same.

Those being Tulpa's ba'vodu Sponge, and his father...

And wasn't that a kick in the teeth? How could he earn himself some praise or even a cool new toy from his dad, if his dad was the obstacle? And if that wasn't bad enough, ba'vodu Sponge was not much help either.

Whenever Tulpa brought up the topic, they'd always push him off to play with one of his cousins instead. And the worst part was that Tulpa would then get swept up in some new cool adventure, because his cousins were pretty awesome. So he couldn't even be all that mad about it!

Carlos has lived over a third of his life around death. Part of that is sad - losing his mom - but most of it feels very matter-of-fact and normal. After all, his sister leads a ghost band and regularly gets into scraps with a different, evil ghost. It's no surprise he's spent the last five years studying everything he can about ways to ward off ghosts and other spirits. All he really wants is to take care of his sister, which means taking care of her band, too. It's just that wanting isn't always enough, even when it comes to magic.

I am losing my FUCKING mind i guess. have a sad teenage Carlos. Julie does not appear but she is, ironically enough, haunting the narrative. this isn’t even the thing I’ve been writing I just woke up at six am and said “this is what we’re doing today.”

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

uhhh the entirety of ch13 of spidey-reg. bc reg did some whack thing at the very end of ch12, and then i was like “haha wouldn’t it be silly if i showed a little bit of his partners and homies Realizing what he did before throwing the narrative back to him?” and then ch13 turned into ten thousand words of nonsense in which reggie didn’t even APPEAR so we only get to the reggie-related aftermath of ch12 in ch14 which took me like three months to post oops.

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

i think uhh flower language/meaning is a big one for me just bc i love it so much. also the stupidest possible confession scenes that i could write. emo hours? i project my own emo hours onto the characters except they get a nice lil hug from the homies and/or partner(s) which i cannot get as easily irl so i must write it as a form of therapy perhaps

he gets a quiet hum back in response, her eyes still glued to the tv.

luke smiles at that, at the entire picture they paint — sitting here in their living room on the weathered old couch, with julie curled up against his side, wearing one of his older shirts as a nightgown.

he takes his time as he takes in every detail of this moment; from the sounds coming from the tv, to the quiet buzzing of the baby monitor by his head, to the feel of her fingers tapping against his thigh and the scent of his minty shower gel coming off her skin.

it’s a moment he never could’ve dreamt up, not even in his wildest dreams, and yet he can’t fathom ever having taken a different path in life.

not one that feels this good. this calm. this happy.

“thank you,” he finally says, leaning down to press a kiss to her temple.

this gets her attention, eyes finally leaving the tv screen as she turns to face him.

“hm? what for?”

luke tightens the arm he has wrapped around her, bringing her closer to him. he can feel her heart beat steadily against his side, right along his own.

he looks down to see bright curious eyes full of warmth staring up at him, and for a second, he’s hit with a wave of intense gratitude once more.

how did he get so lucky? how does he keep getting so lucky?

he smiles down at her, a conversation from a lifetime ago coming to mind.

“for bringing us into your life. for letting us, me, stay. for..for everything.”

and as she places her ear over his heart, fingers intertwined with his, luke leans his head back for a moment, eyes closed.

and thank you rose, he thinks, for julie.
