AU List (Updated)
Sooooo, I’ve realized I have 18 Wild Kratts AUs... so I updated the AU list I made a long time ago... when I only had like nine AUs or something like that...
WK Hazbin Hotel AU: Hazbin Hotel but with the Wild Kratts characters.
Wolfwalker AU: After getting a bite from a wolf cub, Jimmy starts seeing things. He barely sleeps ever since.
Mystichal brothers AU: Part 1: The bros discover the flewin DNA in their family thanks to Chris, but he runs away for five year, why? Part 2: Martin is attended in a strange hospital, after that, he senses dark enery coming from himself, but he can’t control it.
Experiment 351 AU: Chris curses the day when his old childhood friend murdered his brother to turn him into a doll... He’s a crazy pshycopath... wait, is that 350?
Spy Japan AU: Working for an independent force from the former Kanaichi agency, the bros dedicate their lives to protect the town of Korosaki from the other forces.
Collision AU: The WK survivor has to get back the souls of all the Wild Kratts of the multiverse which were stolen by the villains of each universe, it’s been 1 year and a few months already and yet... nothing.
Demon & Ghost AU: Chris discovers that William is not his real dad. Martin and his family know this, expect for Chris, obviously. They wanted to keep his real dad away from him, and it worked... until now...
The WK Resistance AU: Zach released a slight zombie virus to kill the wk crew, but he ended up starting the apocalypse.
Spy Robot AU: Zach had some good three years creating and calibrating the new robot clones of the wk crew to finish them once for all, let’s hope it works.
Fairy princess AU: Aviva is interested in Chris since she was a little girl. But, she’s a princess and she can’t be with a little farmer boy like him, can she? Meanwhile, the Kratt family hold a secret, no one can know about it, especially the royal family.
Criminal AU: Chris and Martin enter the criminal career to get enough money to afford the so-called cure for Martin’s unique dissease, but they have to deal with the police and stuff, especially a new symptom Martin will develop soon.
Dr J. Kratt AU: Fascinated by all the scientific wonders of animals and blinded by the wish of knowdlege, he quits the WK crew and becomes a villain. Martin still can’t belive that new villain is his little brother.
Matrix error AU: Omar dissapeared five weeks ago. Desperated and with no other choice, Koki, his older sister, calls an old “friend”, Jimmy, the only one who can help her with this case.
Snake's Garden AU: Martin reunites with his college band. But now he has a new challenge from their old rivals and the return of a speciall someone, someone he thought he would never meet again.
Next Gen AU: Agatha makes a deal with his own father, earn some approval from him in exchange of finishing the new wild kratts crew. But she never thought of what could happen to her next.
Witchcraft AU: The bros are abandoned by her mother in a strange ride which takes them to the Fenix Witchcraft academy. Jus in time for a big event, where they team up with Aviva, Jimmy and Koki, the youngest of her class and witch rank.
Wild Animals AU: Martin runs a band with Chris and his friends, Jimmy and Koki. One day, a girl named Aviva shows up asking for a place to stay. She ends up making new music with them, changing the vibe almost completely, and Martin does not like this.
Creepy AU: The Kratt siblings had the perfect life, until Hanna was murdered... Martin suffered from depression and guilt, Chris’s schizophrenia was getting worse, everything was wrong!... Martin couldn’t hang on to this anymore... and he made a horrible mistake.
Alright... For now because I know myself) This are all the AUs I have. Bro, the last list I made about this was so much short, but hey! It’s always good to come up with new stuff.

is twitter trans too or is she tumblr’s token cis girlfriend
I honestly don't have much written for twitter because surprisingly she's not one of the main characters in this weird little story I've created. A lot of people have told me twitblr gives them T4T energy and i do kind of see that, but Twitter makes more sense to me as a token cis girl. That part I'm willing to leave up to people's interpretation as long as people don't go out of their way to misgender her.
If you're curious, the other main characters in this weird little (AU? it is an AU if the characters I'm using are literal websites?) are Ao3, who is nonbinary-femme and with with whom Tumblr is roommates, and Youtube, who is also a trans woman.
#The AU is called TechnoEldritch CorpoHell#or TECH for short#And the premise is that basically all of these websites are kind of in a michael-shur style office sitcom#except they have no idea what their company does and the office is kind of strangely extradimensional and infinite#nobody knows who the boss is and they can only hear his voice over the speakers#one of the characters is a literal robot spy from corporate (tiktok)#There's a bunch of other absurdist stuff i've added to the worldbuilding#tumblr is a literal wizard. like with a wand and spells#There's a catgirl (twitch) also#It's basically just a silly fun story with some existential horror elements#not art#ask#anon#twitblr

TF2 x SU au fusions!
oof this took too long but i finally made it !
I kept @gracefireheart Andalusite (HeavyMedic) and @cariocay ‘s Turquoise (EngieSpy) (that i just realized their account got deactivated just a few days ago im sad now) fusion designs because i just found them perfect and whenever i wanted to try making my own designs i always ended up with making something similar to theirs since i was very influenced so i just kept them! They’re so awesome plz check the original artists!
my designs :3 :
About the fusions:
I tried to choose a theme for every fusion that suits the characters like Spessartite (DemoSolly) is a warrior i put Demo’s sword with Soldier’s shield thing well he doesn’t specifically have a shield but yknow the helmet thing i thought that could work.
He’s very powerful, strong and jump into action without a second thought, while he possesses immense strength and a love for loud and chaotic things, his battle prowess is a double-edged sword since his attacks lack precision. however, this unpredictability often leaves his enemies confused and scrambling to defend. he fights more efficiently when drunk lol
Lepidolite (MedicSpy) is a plague doctor, he is very inspired by Hannibal Lecter (nbc Hannibal lol shout out to that one Anon who recommended it for me to watch it lol) at first i wanted to give him a bistouri as a weapon, since it would suit Medic’s saw with Spy’s small knife, but then i felt the fusion was leaning too much towards Medic than Spy, so i put a cane instead to give that old idk gentleman look :P
He is polished and sophisticated, with a hint of underlying sadism and very precise in his movements, he meticulously analyzes his opponents, exploiting weaknesses with surgical precision before jumping into action and strike right where it hurts the most, the cane appears to be a simple walking stick, but inside is a hollowed core that had a retractable, poison-tipped blade, and his poison isn't fast-acting he enjoys toying with his victims, watching as the venom slowly takes hold, fueling his twisted sense of amusement. they are far from being the strongest fusion but they rely a lot on making their opponent weaker by their ability to attack precise hits as well as poisoning them!
Carnelian (SniperScout) his design was inspired by a equestrian outfit (he was the hardest to design tbh bc i wanted his design to be specifically different from the others since Scout is half human so i wanted this "human" aspect to show in the fusion).
He is a walking paradox, he's got Sniper's calm confidence with Scout's hyperactive energy, he loves a good plan but his execution is often fueled by pure adrenaline, he can zip across the battlefield with incredible speed, dodging attacks and flanking enemies. good at mid range and long range attacks but weak at close range, has internalized monologues with himself a lot, he appears calm on the surface however, his foot constantly taps, he fidgets with his slingshot, he cannot stays in place for too long. enjoys taking challenges.
Rubellite (DemoPyro) is a robot with a 50’s cartoon style but with like a creepy vibe to it, their voice sounds like a broken radio perpetually stuck on a laugh track, is both infectious and unsettling.
They just as powerful as Spessartite but just a bit more agile and lean more on the defense style than offense, their body stretches in a cartoony way and battles become a twisted playground for them, a child's game where they hop and blow things up everywhere. they’re very joyful and loves to have fun while making chaos, they usually make jokes but no one understands their muffled voice so they often laugh all by themselves lol the weapon actually expands where the ball and the shaft of the mace connects there’s a chaine (i didnt draw it cuz there was already too much going on in the drawing lol) which helps them reach target from close to mid range easily, they twist and turn their body in very flexible ways before swatting their weapon at their target.
♠︎ If you want to suggest a pair for the next fusion please just comment here DO NOT send it in my ask box plz !!
And if you want to make your own fusion designs/fanart go ahead ! id love to see other people’s interpretations could be ! just don’t forget to tag me and add the tag ( tf2 x su au) :D
hope you enjoy !

Event: Camping Trip
(Tw: mention and talks of Pedophilia, R@pe, child abuse, and cannibalism.(also sorry that I forgot to add this. I thought I did when I wrote this.))
You had received an email from Hope's Peak Academy
'You were invited to help Ms. Dai to take Class 82 onto a 2 week long camping trip starting tomorrow! Class 82 will be thankful for your participation.
We are not responsible for any minor damage, major injuries, any human beings being eaten, and/or deaths that Class 82 may cause.'
You decided to join. Probably your better judgment but to join, you chose none the less. The next day, you went to Hope's Peak Academy to see a group of 7 teens and one little robot girl. All had on a white shirt with brown shorts on.
One was a dark skinned girl with two IDs. One was a Substitute Teacher ID and the other a Student ID for the same school. She was in front and facing the rest of the students.
There was a boy with black hair and brown eyes. He had a bunch of scars on his body, some old, some new, some healed, some still fresh.
The robot girl was to his left. She seems to be design to look around 8 years old, but she seems to be an old model. The body was rusty in some areas and wore down by time.
To her left was a boy with an red jacket on. He had the hood over his head and sunglasses covering his face. His hands were in his pocket.
To his left was a young lady with long light reddish pink hair, dilated pupils, and a slightly jagged tooth. She was the tallest in her class.
To her left was Irofuka Nijiue. It was weird to see him not in a butler uniform. He was stilling wearing his red gloves and his hair was pulled into a short, low ponytail.
To his left was Yolei, wearing a light turtleneck sweater underneath the shirt. The also had leggings and a bag on. She was leaning towards Irofuka.
And finally, Yoshino, who had her hair in a ponytail and was wearing stockings under her shorts. She also had a small backpack on.
Yù: "Okay, let's go over the rules, one more time. No killing people, selling illegal substances or items, and no eating people. Alive or Dead. We will still be doing theapry sessions while camping. Don't wonder to far, especially at night. We have to introduce ourselves to our guests, even if we already met them. That means, telling them your actual names and Ultimate Talents, alright?"
"Yes Ma'am."
Yù: "Thank you Yoshino."
Do you say anything?

Sparks and Oil
Mechanic!Reader x Mob Boss!Eclipse
Commission Info
I have the pleasure of writing @zayaayame's Crimes and Justice AU with a mob boss Eclipse visiting his favorite mechanic! Their dynamics are so fun together and of course, the boy is utterly endeared with the one fixing him up.
Content Warning for suggestive themes and robotic injury.
———
The animatronic, silver and gleaming, slips out the door with a cheerful wave of their newly restored digits on their left hand. You return the gesture with a gentle smile. When the door falls shut after their departure, you breathe a sigh. Exhaustion tugs at your seams; a day’s work worth. You step towards the open sign and flip it to close. Everyone has been taken care of. In terms of emergencies, your door is always open, of course, but as far as appointments go, you’re done.
Before your hand can find the deadbolt and slide it into place to lock up for the night, a shadow falls over you from outside. The lampposts lining the street already burn brightly, and the dusk is dying deeper into a fresh night. Slowly lifting your head, murmuring pleas to not be who you think it is, you find just the one you weren’t looking for.
Eclipse grins. A sharpness encases his brilliant red and black silicon and his sun rays jut out like red-hot pokers. Dressed sharply in a pink dress shirt, red vest, and black slacks, he reaches down with a hand from his lower set of arms to push the door open and step inside.
“Hello, spitfire,” his optics, burning orange, like the sun when it sets on a smoggy evening, go up and down your form. “Aren’t you looking like a dish tonight. And your prosthetics have never had more shine.”
“Eclipse.” You roll your eyes at his romantic attempts to appease you. You cross your arms, one of sleek metal and one of your natural, muscular flesh folding in your agitation.
“Aren’t you happy to see me?” he asks and saunters a little closer. His lower arms are spread wide in greeting but you are not the least bit impressed. His grin is rough and rugged. His upper set of arms hang steady by his side.
You tilt your head in the slightest. His pink sleeves are strangely rolled down, covering the intimidating factor of his thick limbs, but you spy a spot of grease on the corner of his left shoulder. Wires poke at the fabric from underneath.
It is bad enough to have a mob boss darkening your door. It’s worse when he needs your service.
“What happened? Wait, no.” You turn around, stepping one prosthetic forward before swinging your natural one after it in a swift stride. “I don’t want to know.”
“Not even a little?” He follows after you, a towering animatronic with the strength to break whatever he’d like with his four arms—three arms, currently. “You don’t want to know how the other man fared?”
You already guess that he’s six feet under and the less you know of illegal goings-on while managing your mechanic shops, the better.
Ushering into the back room where your private workshop resides, you point to a low table and move in muscle memory, gathering tools and acquiring the necessary components to fix an injured shoulder joint. Afton Robotics services all animatronic parts and pieces, but they are not fun to get on hand. Eclipse is at least considerate enough to make monthly donations to your mechanic shops for all the scouring you do for him.
“Take a seat,” you command instead. “Don’t you have your own mechanics?”
Eclipse purrs a low sound as he settles on the edge of the metal table. He is too tall and imposing even when you stand before him, preparing your tray of tools for the procedure.
“Of course, but they don’t have the same touch as you, spitfire.”
You whip a glare at him before resuming arranging the parts you will need.
“Watch your tongue—and roll up your sleeve.” You stop at his side, ready.
“If you insist,” he rolls deeply in his voice box. Immediately, you stand on edge.
Now what?
To your chagrin, the mob boss’s lower set of hands gladly gets to work unbuttoning his vest. A flame flickers within you. Eclipse grins as he takes his agonizing time to uncover his torso, his pink shirt husked in favor of giving you a free look at his rugged design and bright red colors of warning. Your eyes roam unwittingly before his grin turns sharp like a shark watching you bleed.
Your natural hand reaches over you to twist and adjust your prosthetic arm as you battle the maddening urge to toss him back onto the street. When he finishes setting aside his shirt and vest, you immediately zero in on the torn arm dangling off of his shoulder by a few, straining wires.
“Do you like what you see?” he asks, resting his hands on the legs of his black slacks. His optics flash. “I can show you more.”
“Are you injured anywhere else?” you reply clinically.
Eclipse clicks his metaphorical tongue in disappointment.
You lift a hand to the damaged framework and the connector. It’s not as horrible as you feared, but it is a nasty wound. Oil drips freely now that you’ve exposed the sight of damage and wires spark with short bursts of burning light.
“Will you shut off power to your top left shoulder?”
Eclipse tilts his head and the sparks stop spitting out from exposed copper wires. Now there’s no need to fear frying yourself on an open current. You gladly step closer and begin to salvage what pieces you can and mentally account for what you will need to replace as you remove bullet-chewed pieces.
“You know,” Eclipse rumbles amid your concentration, “I wouldn’t have to find you at the oddest hours if you were closer.”
His lower right hand snakes around your waist. You ignore how his large palm ghosts just over the clothes of your jumpsuit before lightly caressing your spinal implant. The metal vertebrae whirl in a myriad of flashing, wild colors. He hums a low sound.
Lowering his head to your shoulder, a kiss presses into your shoulder, touching the sweat and grime you’ve accumulated throughout the day. You almost jump but force yourself to focus on splicing two wires to repair the strain they endured. Then, once you finish, for good measure, you snap a glare in Eclipse’s direction.
“If you kiss me while I’m working on you, I might make a mistake, and you will pay for it.”
“Understood, spitfire.” He chuckles but his hands still roam over your body.
Even as you stand and bend over his wound, his fingers trail over your muscled arms and touch the cords of strength along your back, trailing down your hips to your strong thighs. Scars bump underneath his smooth, metallic touch. He even stoops low to study a few marred knits of flesh along your arm where your prosthesis joins with your body.
If you weren’t so focused on replacing the connector of his shoulder, you might have caught a glint of guilt in his optics. He instead rubs your arm softly.
“I’ve missed you so much,” he breathes an electric breath. “You should move closer to me, so I can keep you safe. It’s so dangerous out here.”
You scoff and don’t bother to lift your eyes from the task at hand. His model is familiar if not threatening. He was built to be a weapon and a weapon he has made himself.
“Oh, you wound me, spitfire,” he croons dramatically.
“Do I,” you give dryly. “I doubt I could wound you as much as whatever did this to you.”
The precision of your tools fit between metal slats and wires, restoring what was once blasted apart by a gunshot. No, you don’t think you could hurt him like this.
One of his hands falls over his chassis and he swoons while keeping still enough for you to work.
“So cruel, so heartless. And I only offer all of my parts to you,” he sighs. If only you could have taken his voice module and switched it off.
“You’ll live,” you promise. Against your will, a tiny small slips over your lips when Eclipse straightens, his optics slipping over you in a low burn. “There. You’re all patched up.”
You turn away to reach for a rag to wipe your greasy fingers on but the hand you just restored takes you by the arm. Falling still, you feel one of his other hands move into the pocket of your jumpsuit, depositing what feels to be a thick wad of cash. Another crook of a finger captures your chin. Slowly, you rise to meet his eyes, caught in the bright orange light of his optics.
“Thank you, spitfire.”
Your lips part to ask how it feels if the current flows well and if his movement is hindered at all, but he silences you with a kiss. His metallic mouth presses over yours. He’s warm and strong but mostly, gentle. You make a soft sound, surprised and furious and flustered by his audacity. He pulls slowly away from you as if savoring every last drop.
“I’ll see you again soon.” His grin is harsh and handsome, and you boil. He can’t do that to you just because he can. But he leaves you speechless, left with oil-slick fingers and a buffering mind as he slips to the front of the shop and out the door, into the night.
You burn where you stand. Your hand moves to your lips and traces where his kiss still simmers in your skin, and you groan.
If he doesn’t get killed, you’ll kill him one of these days.

Made an AU while lokey dying.
Play Fortress 2
It’s 18 boys who at the park one day decided to play a game of fighting! Split up into a Red and Blu team, pretended they were mercenaries in a war trying to take down the other team! They loved playing so much that now they all either play at the park, or they will choose someone’s backyard to go play in.
Loadouts!:
Scout(6)- little league baseball bat
Soldier (7)- a PVC pipe he found and he later manages to duct tape into a potato launcher (with some help)
Pyro(6)- a lighter (they aren’t suppose to have that 🤭) ((no, she does not light anyone on fire, he just makes a woosh sound with her mouth and the others play pretend))
Demoman(7)- pinecones and pinecones+gum
Heavy(8)- A log he found, lunch Мама packed him, fists
Engineer(7)- a little robot he made that can shoot BB pellets
Medic(7)- the first aide kit he took from the closet
Sniper(6)- pebbles and a slingshot
Spy(8)- a pencil (to ‘backstab’)

-> CH. 1: A SILENT DOG & STILL WATERS
synopsis: the soviet union has been producing robots for a long time based on a miracle compound: polymer. but that was invented in 1941. the current year is 2038, and, due to rising tensions in the arctic, americans aren't as kind to soviets as they once were. it's too bad you're a russki, and it's really too bad that you work in cybersecurity. and honestly, with the case fowler has put you on, you're at risk of losing your job. it doesn't help that you're stuck with lieutenant hank anderson and some new android apparently called connor.
word count: 2.6k
ships: Connor/Reader, Hank Anderson & Reader
notes: based on an au i literally had a dream about. it's basically d:bh with elements of atomic heart :P this ch. is half exposition and half hank being an alcoholic lolololol
HEAD OF FALSE SECURITY MASTERLIST
The Soviet Union had always been very good at spying on and stealing American technology. They did so with the atomic bomb, the B-29 superfortress, and the space shuttle – with no lack of effort on America’s side of trying to keep them secret.
But one thing set the USSR above the rest: polymer. A miracle compound that formed the backbone for every technological evolution that came after. It mimics a human neuron, including its ability to interpret input signals. With tinkering from top Soviet scientists (and a whole lot of luck), a gigantic neural network was established, the maximum computing power of which was orders of magnitude higher than the power of a conventional network.
With polymer, the Soviets reigned supreme as the only real international superpower. The other countries could play at being powerful, but the USSR was top dog – and she wasn’t keen on letting the others forget.
But that was in the past. And the past is boring. That was in 1941, and something you learn about in history class. Polymer is now regularly sold and traded and built upon and shared. After the Cold War ended, it was expanded outwards and is no longer a precious commodity. It was even needed to build a modern technology – androids. Ones that could pass the Turing test, unlike the TER-A1 Tereshkova (which was a human-looking robot, sure, but one that had an unsettling, unmoving mask for a face).
And androids are simply better than Soviet bots. They’re versatile and able to be mass-produced without specialization development. They’re not big and clunky like the chimpanzee-esque MA-9 Belyash and can still accomplish the same installation, plumbing, and welding work. They can do the same agricultural work an ARU-31/6 Rotorobot can do without the risk of accidentally endangering humans while in use.
Again, they’re simply better. In the current year of 2038, American androids just trump similar Soviet tech in every way.
But that doesn’t mean that the Soviets aren’t still trying. They’ve invaded the Arctic with intent to claim the land, heavy with NA-T256 Natasha bots and the claim that the “heavy-duty ground-based loader bots can squeeze up to five liters of blood from a human body in under twenty seconds,” as a deterrent to American forces.
And this action has made your workplace a hell away from home.
Even though you immigrated from Chelomey, Russia to Detroit, Michigan in 2027, before all this business went down, people still eyed you warily – like you secretly enjoyed living under communism and the ever-watching eye of the Kremlin. Like you were just itching to get your grubby little paws on American secrets so you could report them to Comrade Molotov and a beautiful girl back home called Katya. Yeah, right.
These small, under-the-breath and glance-of-the-eye accusations weren’t helped by your current occupation: as a screen jockey for the Head of Cybersecurity of the Detroit Police. They acted like you hadn’t worked just as hard as everyone else for your position – for your polymer glove and the privileges that came with it.
Polymer gloves have come a long way from their prototype in 1955. They’re a single fingerless glove – one glove, as a person doesn’t need two – with an adjustable wrist strap. In the middle of the palm is a small silver star that can retract to expose prehensile, tentacle-like wires that can interface with terminals and other technology.
But it doesn’t stop there – with a single gesture (holding your hand out and making an “L” shape) the glove can scan the surroundings of the user. Paired with an artificial polymer retina, the user can have information about the environment that they otherwise wouldn’t have.
And, of course, you’re outfitted with the top versions of both – on the precinct’s credit card, obviously.
But, again, you’re just a screen jockey. One of the best, but still just a worker bee that reports to a higher-up. There’s little to no interaction with the other departments, as cybersecurity is mostly isolated without any related crimes. Maybe cyberterrorism, but cases of that are few and far between.
And you thought that’s all you’d ever be until you heard Fowler’s bellowing voice call your last name.
When you pop your head up from behind your terminal, you see him standing halfway through the glass door to his office. You swallow and trot over, a nervous idea tickling the back of your mind. Is he mad? Did you do something wrong? Shit… did you accidentally leak something?
You push open Fowler’s door and slowly shut it behind you. He’s sitting behind his desk, stark against the blue-grey backdrop of the wall behind him. His constantly furrowed brow and permanent frown lighten a little when he sees you.
You fold your hands behind your back politely. “Yes, sir?”
Fowler gestures to the seat in front of his desk. “Go ahead and take a seat.”
Oh, fuck. Oh, shit. You definitely did something wrong.
You walk over and sit in the chair. It screeches with a horrible sound.
You lean back in the chair and cross your arms. “What is this about, sir?”
Fowler leans back in his chair and drags a hand down his face. Immediately, the worst things pop into your head. You fight the urge to worry your bottom lip.
“You have experience with androids, yes?” Fowler asks, but it doesn’t sound like a question – rather, a statement.
“Yes, sir.” You nod.
“And you have experience with Lieutenant Hank Anderson?”
Your eyebrows furrow a little, but you still nod. “Yes, sir.”
Fowler turns to his terminal. “How do you feel about him?”
You bite your bottom lip as you think, then let it slip from your teeth. “I don’t know what you want me to say. He’s my friend. He is still a valuable member of the force, even if he has presented a few problems in the past couple of years.”
Fowler laughs. “A few?”
“Ah…” You smile, but it’s a bit forced. “More than a few. A lot. More problems than solutions, if I’m being honest.”
“That’s just how it goes sometimes.” He shrugs and sighs. “Do you know about the new case he’s been assigned?”
“Yes, sir,” you say. “He won’t shut up about it.”
He hums and leans forward, resting his chin on folded hands. “Always one for discretion, that one.”
You duck your head, instead looking down at your lap. “Yeah. But I think he can do better – be the cop he was before.”
“An optimistic Soviet.” Fowler laughs lowly. “That’s a new one.”
You just clench your jaw and meet his eyes. “What is this about? If you’ve called me in just to poke fun at me and gossip about Hank, I’d like to go back to my desk. Uh, sir.”
“No, no.” He holds a hand up. “Tell me what you’ve heard about Hank’s case.”
You think for a second. “Deviant androids murdering their owners. It sounds like it would’ve been labeled self-defense if it was a human-on-human crime, but…” you shrug. “I’m not in Homicide. I’m in Cybersecurity.”
“Well, you’re getting some experience.” Fowler pulls a cord from his terminal, one you recognize as a port compatible with a polymer glove. “You’re on the case.”
“I’m on the case?!” You repeat in disbelief. “Sir, I – I don’t –”
He holds up a hand for the second time. “I don’t want to hear it. You’re the best screen jockey with the most field experience I can spare.”
He gestures with the cord still in his hand. “Now, c’mon. Jack in and download the files.”
You swallow your objections and outstretch your gloved left hand. The thin metal of the star retracts, and the prehensile wires extend towards the port, waving like blades of grass. The ends of all six find their homes in the port, still wiggling like black tapeworms.
Documents appear in the corner of your eye, one after another, like pop-up ads. You blink hard to dismiss them, then disconnect.
Fowler feeds the cord back into his terminal, then leans back in his chair.
He looks over at you. “What’s that one saying you Soviets say? Something about champagne.”
You look up at him, then down to your glove. The star retracts, then goes back to its original position, like it was winking at you. “He who doesn’t take risks won’t drink champagne.”
“Well, I hope you have a taste for harder liquor,” Fowler says. “Hank’s at having a drink somewhere nearby. Go find him.”
And Lord, did you know right where to find Hank.
On the door to Jimmy’s Bar is a firm warning, reading: NO ANDROIDS ALLOWED – OWNERS WILL BE PROSECUTED. You just hope that they don’t extend the same kindness to russkis.
When you open the door, everyone in the bar turns to look at you. You nod and, once they see who you are, turn back to their conversations or nursing their drinks.
You spot Hank at the bar with what looks like a Tennessee whiskey. You sidle up onto the barstool next to him, easing into the creaky seat. As you drape your rain-speckled coat on the back of the chair, you glance at the clock on the wall. It reads just before twenty past eleven.
“Bartender?” You call. Your thick accent immediately catches his attention, and so does the money you slide onto the bartop. “Vodka, please.”
The bartender, presumably Jimmy, picks up a bottle of Stolichnaya from the shelving behind him. “This good?”
You nod. “More than good.”
He pours vodka into a tumbler glass, then pushes it across the bar. You accept it readily, and the tiny sip you take gives your throat a nice burn on the way down.
“A Soviet and vodka,” Hank mumbles against the lip of his glass. “Like a moth to a flame.”
“It’s what my mother served with dinner,” you say. “I’m just glad Jimmy’s got enough sense not to keep us from his bar.”
Hank chuckles and raises his glass to that.
“Fowler’s gone beyond the pale.” You sip at your drink. “Have you heard?”
“Yup.” He sighs, setting his drink on the bartop harder than necessary. “Don’t know why a kid like you has business with an old timer like me.”
“Oh, believe me,” you say, your voice heavy with sarcasm. “It’s nice to visit, but it’s better to be home. I don’t know what he’s thinking. A Cybersecurity worker partnering up with someone in Homicide? Next, we’ll have androids doing our thinking and philosophy instead of our laundry and dishes.”
Hank snorts into his drink. “Hell, with all these runaways? They might as well be.”
“I mean, I can see his line of thinking.” You swirl the vodka in your glass, watching the way it catches and reflects the low light of the bar. “Cybersecurity, androids… makes sense, but me? A russki? With all that’s happening in the Arctic? If we don’t do well, my job is on the line.”
Hank sips his whiskey. “It really sounds like Fowler’s settin’ you up to fail.”
“Setting us both up to fail.” You correct and mirror him, sipping at your vodka.
The sound of the door opening and the rain outside cuts into your conversation. Nothing you’d usually take a glance at, but what puts you off is the sudden silence of the bar. Bars shouldn’t be silent – especially not Jimmy’s.
You look over your left shoulder and see a nice looking man that’s just walked through the door. He looks a bit dorky, sure, and a bit like a lost puppy dog, but that could look nice on certain guys. And the asymmetrical tuft of loose hair that’s escaped his hair gel looks –
There’s a blue triangle just above where his left breast pocket would be. On the other side of his blazer reads RK800 in even, white text. He’s an android, not a man. He meets your gaze and you inhale sharply.
Your eyes return to your drink, and so does Hank’s. This isn’t what you want to deal with right now – or ever, actually. It’s Jimmy’s establishment, so it’s Jimmy’s problem.
But still, as soon as the android saw you, he started making a beeline for you. His footsteps are quick, measured, and even.
“Excuse me,” he says, putting a hand on your shoulder. He addresses you by your title, and your gut clenches.
“No.” You try to wave him off. “No English. Sorry.”
“Officer, you passed each of your TestEaFL’s with flying colors,” he says, narrowing his eyes a little. “You can speak English perfectly fine.”
You cringe a little, but then a thought strikes you – how would this android have access to the scores of your Test of English as a Foreign Language? But before you can ask, he’s turned to Hank and started speaking.
“Oh, Lieutenant Anderson.” He moves so that he’s standing beside Hank. “Just the other person I was looking for.”
He glances between the two of you. “My name is Connor. I’m the android sent by CyberLife. Captain Fowler said that you were both having a drink nearby. I was lucky to find you at the fifth bar.”
You snort and your eyebrows shoot up. If you didn’t know better, you’d say that there was a hint of… something other than monotone indifference in his voice.
“What do you want?” Hank grinds out.
“You were assigned a case early this evening. A homicide, involving a CyberLife android.” Connor glances at you, like he’s reminding you that you were also assigned this case. “In accordance with procedure, the company has allocated a specialized model to assist investigators.”
“Well, I don’t need any assistance.” Hank jabs a thumb at you. “I’ve got all the unwanted assistance I need right here, and I don’t need any more. ‘Specially not from a plastic asshole like you. So just be a good lil’ robot and get the fuck outta here.”
“He’s right,” you chime. “And it doesn’t really look good to have androids investigating androids. What if you snap, too?”
“I will not.” Connor meets your eyes, and you can almost see the switch flick in that little android brain. Great, now it’s your turn to be grilled.
He circles so that he’s standing beside you and leans down a little, putting his hand on the bartop. You keep your eyes down, firmly on your drink.
“I’m sorry, Officer, Lieutenant, but I must insist,” he says. “My instructions stipulate that I have to accompany both of you.”
“You know where you can stick your instructions?” Hank chimes in with a throaty laugh.
You glance over at Connor, who looks thoroughly confused. You smile and bring the glass to your lips.
“No,” Connor says. “Where?”
Your throat seizes around the sip of vodka you were trying to take, causing you to cough it out as you try to suppress your laughter. You slam down the glass (effectively spilling most of it) and bring a hand to your chest, trying to ride it out as Hank pats your back.
“чёрт возьми!” You wheeze, your voice hoarse. Your chest burns. “Oh, fuck.”
You wipe your eyes as the burn dulls, still coughing slightly. Connor purses his lips before coming to a conclusion.
“You know what?” He offers. “I’ll buy you both one for the road.”
“You better,” you say. “You made me spill mine.”
“Bartender!” Connor calls, and slips money onto the bartop. “The same again, please.”
“See that, Jim?” Hank says. “Wonders of technology. Make it a double.”
Jimmy pours a healthy amount of Jack Daniels into Hank’s glass, and starts to pour Stolichnaya into yours. You cut him halfway with a raised hand and a “Someone’s gotta drive us home safe.”
You knock back your drink, then let out a low whistle at the nice burn. Hank follows soon after and sighs heavily.
He leans back and looks over at Connor. “Did you say homicide?”
