Yesterday was a successful mountain bike outing with @emilyabriner in many ways. This moment for example, was a lot of fun. I got some good cardio work in on the uphills and had a blast on all of the rolling single track. We also had a nice little picnic in the afternoon at the side of the trail. Shortly after is (unfortunately) when things went slightly off the rails. I was following Emily down a ridge when I came around a corner and saw that she had crashed in some rocks. With great concern for her safety and well-being, I rushed to her aid. She, being Emily, decided she wanted to go through that same section again without crashing, and I set up for photos on the downhill side of a drop in the trail where I was sure she’d get some good air. When she didn’t, I decided that I would give it a go. I asked her to sit farther back because, “I’m going to be going quite a bit faster than you.” Needless to say, I crashed much harder than she did. I punctured my front tire and, because I opted for the self-sealing tubeless setup, I had no spare tube. Of course, the self-sealing feature didn’t work in this particular instance, so I had to run the last three and a half miles back to the car pushing a bike with a flat tire. This wouldn’t have been a big deal, but the wrist/hand injury that I sustained in the crash started hurting really bad as my heart rate went up.
