Bug of the Day
Was a weirdly quiet night at the lights the other night - hot all day, pre-storm, barometric pressure physically palpable, but then I found this big boi in a corner of my porch usually reserved for spiders (and things that the spiders have eaten). This is a spotted Apatelodes moth, Apatelodes torrefacta, and I have not seen one in my yard since 2018. Very cool. These moths used to be in the silkworm family (Bombycidae) but have been separated out into their own "American" silkmoth family, Apatelodidae.

Just thought I’d share my q!aimsey design, they’re based off the spotted apatelodes, they’re moths that look like lil dragons :33

so I spent a lot of time deliberating whether or not I wanted to share this but eventually I thought
fuck it, why not
here’s my first ever attempt Fakemon, Toxelodes
it’s inspired by the Spotted Apatelodes / Dragon Moth, specifically the larva, although it’s more loosely based since the larva are kinda just fuzz worms and I couldn’t really figure out how to adapt that directly into a pokemon design without it being boring, so I ended up taking the fuzzy aspect and the antenna design of the larva and adapting it onto a more moth-like design. feels more like how a pokemon would be anyway, they aren’t always so direct with the inspirations. Its shiny is meant to reference how they’re commonly coloured though.
this is my first ever fakemon and i’m still kinda learning art as a whole so i’m aware it’s probably nothing amazing, but i’m happy with how the lil guy came out and wanted to share anyways :>
It does have an evolution in the works and it will be Bug / Dragon- that’s where the whole idea started actually- but art block hit me like a motherfucker while I was working on it lmao
also the stats were a complete afterthought I have no idea how to properly design a stat spread lmao just ignore those

🦋🍂 MOTHVEMBER day 15-16 🍂🦋 Spotted apatelodes is the most intimidating moth in my mothvember list, but that's just their look. They just want to eat some leaves! I like that they have this almost scorpion-like tail, it makes them look like some kind of chimera dragon. I tried to make it look like it belongs to a medieval manuscript art of a new dangerous creature

@yasuoyamada submitted: All other moths I’ve submitted have been ones I’ve raised so I figured I’d submit ones I found in the wild! First is a Spotted Apatelodes Moth, then a Yellow-striped Armyworm Moth and a Giant Leopard Moth caterpillar (who is hibernating in my fridge right now, named it QT!). All were found in Pennsylvania.
Ah! Some really nice finds. Especially the apatelodes, since I don’t think I’ve ever had one submitted! Maaaybe one other. I must share a photo of their caterpillar because they’re Good:

Yes! Incredible! A muppet. Photo by maryshew
Also please tell QT I love them when they awake.
