It was a windy autumn night when James Buchanan Barnes and his pack of vermin invaded Elkhorn’s Travelling Circus and Freakshow.
There were scarcely few in the area who had not heard of Barnes and his gang of outlaws. From the moment your caravans had pulled across state lines, you had been warned not to cross Bucky Barnes or his dogs. The law did not concern itself with this place, a place so far west that civilization had been left behind. The memories of cities, people, and culture were a mere whisper on the winds, a fleck of sand in an endless desert. This place was ruled by barbarians, and Bucky Barnes was their king.
You had heard stories of the fabled man. Some said he was the devil himself, that he sported horns and hooved feet. Others said his eyes were black as the night but reflected the light as if he were part beast. Those terrified people would recall his wrath and how his enemies were never afforded a simple, painless death. No, those who crossed the King suffered for their crimes.
So when that twisted, cruel man of legend stood before you... You were surprised to find he was none of what he was rumoured to be.
It had only been an hour since the nightly show had wrapped up, darkness falling quickly due to the colder months looming. The gang of outlaws had stormed your small campsite, locating your leader and employer, Duke Elkhorn, and demanding they be entertained! The candles had been lit, and the music was playing. The animals had been brought from their cages once more, and dancers and performers were laced back into costumes. Barnes had asked for entertainment, so you would provide it, lest you find yourself dead in a ditch.
Thankfully, you had not yet taken off your own outfit and makeup. A kohl to line your eyes; your lips painted red; hair loose with intermitten beading and braids. You wore large jewled earrings and layers of necklaces that partially covered the deep v of your neckline. Your dress was tightly fitted, your breasts were pushed upwards by the corset beneath, and your skirt was a deep green that swirled around your legs with each movement. Your small tent was filled with a haze of incense, lavish velvet, and silk used as draperies. Your tent was divided into two sections—your working space and your personal quarters. You had been checking your appearance in your cracked mirror when the ruffle of fabric alerted you to his presence.
He stood with an unquestionable air of confidence, a cigarette in hand. His eyes narrowed as he looked you over, a cruel smirk playing across his lips. He was large and burly, with muscular forearms that bulged against the fabric of his sleeves, which had been pushed up to gather at his elbows. Blood stained his collar and sleeves, and a gold pocket watch was tucked into his vest. His dark hair was windblown, bits peeking out from under his black, cattleman hat.
As he flicked his cigarette, you realised his knuckles were bruised and split. A subtle splatter of blood across his cheek, smeared, as if somone had reached up and grasped his face in their dying moments.
“Our mutual friend, Mr. Elkhorn, told me that if I was lookin’ for a pretty thing to come find ya.” His voice was deep when he spoke, gravelly and rough. It sent a shudder down your spine. Damn Elkhorn. You always knew he was a coward, even though he thought himself a big man. You and the other performers were not strangers to his temper and desperation. You all tended not to challenge it, as he could be a cruel man as equally as he could be fearful.
“He weren’t lyin’ was he?” He lets out a low whistle, exhaling smoke. “How’s he kept you a secret for so long, huh? Guess mah boys don’t come pokin’ in the tents that often. Too busy pokin’ their bits into them dancer girls.”
You remain silent as he chuckles to himself. He eyes you greedily; his icy blue eyes are anything but discreet. You could feel how his gaze rested on the curves of your hips and breasts, watching how your skin moved with each breath. Desire was a strange thing—how easily you might shift from feeling confident and powerful to nothing at all.
You certainly felt like a squirming idiot under his gaze.
“I’m not a whore.” You speak up, though your voice is hushed, hesitant, or even uneasy. You knew men like Barnes would not take being denied well. If you thought Elkhorn’s brutality was something to fear, your knees would positively buckle before Barnes.
Barnes barks out a laugh, his brows raising in something between delight and surprise. He strides towards you, grinning as you flinch back. “Yer employer seems to think differently.”
Your eyes slide closed as he reaches forward, a finger sweeping a strand of hair from your face to better look at you. You swallow hard as he chuckles, smoke blowing across your face. Teeth grit, you slowly open your eyes, a shuddering exhale leaving your nose as he runs a finger across your cheek.
“He’s a spineless excuse of a man.” You dare to bite back, your voice wavering, but you stand tall. His amused expression has morphed into one of intrigue. His actions falter; hesitation is clear in his demeanour.
“He make ya do things ya don’t wanna do, darlin’?” The outlaw asks, his voice surprisingly genuine. He is still close to you, close enough that you can smell the tobacco on his breath and feel the vibration of each word in his chest.
“Sometimes.” You admit, your eyes flickering up to meet his gaze. He curses under his breath, rubbing his jaw in annoyance. Barnes backs off a few paces, putting out his cigarette on one of your sidetables. From your side view of his chiselled face, you see a muscle in his jaw tense.
“Well, sweetheart. I ain’t in the business of bein’ with women who don’t want it.” He says with a roll of his shoulders. He has stalked over to your reading table, bruised knuckles white as he grips the back of your chair.
You are at a momentary loss for words. You had anticipated being repulsed by this man, the one who repeatedly terrorised these lands and enabled his dogs to do what they wanted and take what they pleased. There was something strangely endearing about his care for your consent.
“Well, I am glad to hear it.” You finally uttered. “Can’t say the same for some of your boys, though.”
A tense silence washes over the tent, and you almost immediately regret your words. Against your better judgement, you creep towards him. He doesn’t flinch away from your touch as your hands smooth over the top of his hands and wrists. Beneath you, he feels like stone, each tendon and muscle expertly chiselled like the statues you saw in the big cities back east.
“Yer right. Pack o’ wild mongrels they are. Good for puttin’ folk in their place. I think I’ll get ‘em to pay yer employer a little visit. Remind him whose land he’s on.”
Barnes goes to leave, pulling away from your touch. A wave of horror washes over you at his implication. You find yourself reaching for him again in an unexpected panic. Your hands latch around his bare forearm, tugging him back an inch.
“Wait.” You shake your head, gripping his forearm. The outlaw looks back at you in curiosity.
“I ain’t gonna hurt anyone else, sweetheart. Just him. ” He drawls, eyes darting to where you hold his arm. You drop it immediately, backing off. Your cheeks burn in embarrassment.
“He will think your lesson is because I turned you down or because I wasn’t good enough for you.” You explain desperately. His eyes narrow, as if offended on your behalf. “Whatever you do to him, he will do to me twofold. As punishment. He is a cruel man, you understand?”
“Yer definitely not pleading his case well, darlin’.” There is impatience in his tone and ire that you could not even begin to comprehend. Your eyes flicker to his bruised knuckles, the splatters of blood. If Elkhorn found out, well, you would have to wear a veil for the rest of your life. Your face would be so mishapened and destroyed that you would bring fear into the hearts of anyone who laid eyes upon you. You would no longer be a fortune teller but a featured freak of Elkhorn’s sideshow. Men and women alike would pull faces, with children throwing food and rocks. The deformed woman— another beast in a cage.
You have seen this fate play out too many times. Too many were lost to Elkhorn’s wickedness.
“Please.” You beg. His brow arches and his adams apple bobs.
You swallow nervously, then hesitantly step forward. With gentle hands, you take his forearm once more, guiding him to your reading table. “Just… I will entertain you for a suitable time. I can read your cards. Then, you can tell Mr. Elkhorn that you laid with me; embellish it if you wish.”
Barnes seems too intrigued to protest.
He unbuttons his vest with a soft grunt, taking a seat at the table. His legs are spread wide in a domineering pose as he leans back into the seat with cool confidence. As you take a seat at the opposite end of the table, he reaches into his vest pocket.
“So, how does this work?” He asks. You can tell he is irritated from the way his brow twitches and jaw muscles are still tense. He is playing along for your benefit, you realise. He is looking to you for amusement to stop himself from marching out of the tent and dealing with Elkhorn as promised.
“I will shuffle the cards, then draw three. Each card has meaning, and all together, it will tell you the message you need to hear.” You explain. Barnes had pulled out a pack of cigarettes, offering you one. You decline with a wave of your hands, instead taking the cards into your palm. He shrugs, lighting it with a half-interested sigh.
As he inhaled and you shuffled, you noticed his interest lay closer to your exposed skin. Even if he had backed off per your request, it did not seem to stop him from undressing you with his eyes from the opposite side of the table. He seemed emnamoured by the layers of necklaces and how they clinked and rolled across your skin.
As you shuffled, the first card fell out. His tongue darted out, wetting his bottom lip as he watched you work. You slid the escapee card onto the table, facedown on the red tablecloth.
“Anything in particular that you want to hear, hm?” You ask. As you lift your gaze, you find Barnes enraptured by your movements, so much so that he has forgotten to take another drag. “Most people want to know about their careers… their families. Love.”
“I don’t believe in love.” He says, sucking in a breath. You tilt your head. He didn’t believe in love, no. He believed in lust. Desire. From the way his pupils were blown and his lips parted in awe, he was positively eating out of your hand. A second card falls. You slide it next to the first.
“Business it is, then.” You breathe. The final card falls from the deck just as the words leave your lips. You put it in place, then place the stack of the remaining deck to the side. Barnes is transfixed as you lean your arms parallel to the table and tilt forward. “Flip one.”
“Does it matter which order?”
“No.”
With unwavering confidence, he reaches forward, flipping over the first in the row. Your gaze falls downward to view the card, a frown pulling at your lips. You examine the familiar figures on the card. Two figures stood on either side, naked and chained. Behind them, in the darkness, loomed a beast with claws, horns, and wings. The Devil.
How fitting.
Barnes seems to find it ironic as well, as he scoffs in disbelief. “Ya playin’ a trick on me?”
You look up at him. The tension in the small tent is as thick as the smoke that hangs in the air. “No. The cards tell the truth, if you want to hear it or not.”
You reach out, stroking a finger over the card.
“The figures, they are chained. They don’t want to be there, but if you look closely… their chains are loose. They could escape at any moment.” If Barnes had a snarky comment, he does not say. He hung on to your every word. “And the longer they remain, the longer they become more like the devil. He represents the darkness within them, their shadow selves. It is the evil within you—the short-term pleasures—to ignore the long-term pains. Instant gratification. Greed, violence. You think you have free will, but you have sold your soul to the devil.”
“Tell me somethin’ I don’t already know darlin,” The outlaw says with a chuckle. You notice that his shoulders have relaxed, a cool amusement embodying him.
You hold his gaze. “Next card.”
His fingers brush yours as he flips over the centre card. The King of Pentacles.
“The Devil and now the King? You’re spoilin’ me, sweetheart.” He chuckles.
You eyed the card. The king sat upon his lavish throne, surrounded by wealth. You tap your nail across the yellow pentacle symbol, humming in thought. “King of Pentacles. It represents wealth and abundance. He has influence and is a skilled leader.”
Your head tilts. “It’s a warning.”
“A warnin’? Sounds like a good card to me.”
“The king has all that he wants. An abundance of wealth. Everything he touches turns to gold, like King Midas.”
“King Midas?”
“It’s an old tale. One of caution. About a king who was blessed with the power to turn anything he touched into gold. His kingdom flourished with wealth, but he soon found himself to be unhappy. He could not eat, as any food that touched his lips turned to gold. He could not know the comforts of the flesh, for the women would also turn to gold. Everything he once cherished…gone. Then, one day he lost the one thing he loved most, his daughter. She kissed her father upon his forehead and instantly became a statue of gold.”
“I would be a far richer man if I were this…King Midas.”
“But don’t you see? You are him. You are a king who is flush with wealth; your influence is strong. Your people flourish. Everything you do and everything you touch becomes profit. But at what cost? How much more will you lose? How much more will you give up for greed?” You finger turns to point at the Devil card. His lips are set in a straight line as he scowls at you.
“You best be careful now.” He warns. You shudder, leaning back in your seat, motioning for him to flip the final card.
You stare down at the table, your breath held in horror. The figure in the card sits up in bed, hands to their face in anguish. Decorating the wall behind them are a row of swords, two of which could be seen to be piercing through the figure. Stabbed through the back. The frame of the bed is carved, illustrating two figures fighting. Nine of Swords.
Your mouth feels dry as Barnes peers at you expectantly. “Well?”
You can’t find the words; your brows are scrunching as you try to find the best way to articulate the meaning without triggering the brooding outlaw’s wrath. Your finger taps on the table, and you clear your throat, squirming in your seat.
“Nine of Swords.” You utter quietly. “The figure… they are troubled by their own thoughts. Their worries, speculations… so much so that they manifest it into reality.”
Your fingers trace over the fighting figures. “You worry of a rising conflict.”
You ghost over the swords next. A backstabbing.
It was all very clear to you how it all intertwined. Barnes was a man possessed by evil and greed. He had sacrificed much to accumulate his wealth; like King Midas, he had all the gold he could need, but at what cost? His followers, his people—they were afraid. Weary of their cruel leader. A coup was in the works. Jealousy brewed within his men; all they knew was evil, so all they could give was violence in return.
“A betrayal.” You breathe. Your eyes snap up to meet his. His pupils were no longer blown, instead replaced with an icy rage.
“How do ya know this?” His voice had dropped, low and threatening. His cigarette was discarded, flecks of burning ash glowing across the floor. His shoulders were tensed, straining against the fabric as he began to loom over you, slowly standing from his seat.
You shrunk back. “I don’t, I just read the cards—”
You let out a shriek as Barnes gripped the table, flipping it in one solid motion. The cards fluttered to the ground around you, the glossy paper flickering in the low candle light. You recoiled in your seat, limbs trembling as Barnes stood over you.
“Did Rumlow put you up to this, huh? I know what him and his little pack of vermin have been whisperin’.” He spat on the ground beside you, and you flinched back. Barnes reached down, gripping your throat as he forced you to look up at him.
“I don’t know anythin’. I swear—” You begged, tears prickling at your eyes.
Barnes scanned your face, then released you with a huff. You scrambled away, retreating to the furthest corner of the tent. Barnes waved his hand at you with a sigh, re-buttoning his vest and straightening his shirt.
“I’ll give ya the benefit of the doubt, darlin’. But if I find out you’ve been lyin’...I’ll kill ya myself. Ya understand?”
You nodded wordlessly, whimpering as the outlaw marched out of your tent without a glance back.
—
“Where is she?” The enraged roar of Bucky Barnes sent a nauseating wave of panic through your body.
A couple weeks had past, and Elkhorn’s Travelling Circus and Freakshow were wrapping up their stay. Duke Elkhorn wanted to push further west, bring entertainment to the drivers and rustlers of the far reaches of the country. Within two days, you were set to leave this awful place and flee the clutches of Barnes and his boys.
Well, it seemed that had been hopeful thinking.
You were in your tent, in your personal quarters. You had pulled shut the draperies to allow yourself privacy. The strong men, slick with oil and always sporting toothy grins, were always eager to deliver you water to bathe in. It had become a sort of ritualistic routine of yours to undress and wash the makeup from your face. After hours of sitting in a stuffy tent stinking of incense, it was a relief to wash the smell from your body.
You wore a silk robe, loosely tied at the waist. It had been a gift from a patron back east—some rich city boy who had a fascination with you. When Barnes crashed through your draperies into the back of your tent, chest heaving with a livid look in his eye… you froze. You were perched on a stool before your cracked mirror, pulling a brush through your long locks of hair.
You stumbled to your feet, stool knocked to the ground.
Barnes was covered in blood, his shirt so drenched that it clung to his skin. His jaw was clenched tightly, and his teeth were bared in a growl. The blood was still fresh on his arms and neck, the liquid glinting in the candlelight. He had not bothered to wear his hat; instead, his hair was messy, with a splattering of blood across his cheek.
“I told ya I would kill ya myself.” The outlaw snarled.
You backed away, back meeting the tent wall. “I didn’t do anythin—”
You were cut off as Barnes marched forward, large hands wrapping around your throat. He squeezed tightly, a breathless whimper escaping your mouth.
“How did ya know?” He demanded, his face twisted into a look of rage.
You claw at the front of his shirt, sticky blood coating your palms as you struggle.
“Ya knew about Rumlow. Ya warned me of a betrayal.”
He releases the pressure on your throat, and you meekly gasp in air, nails digging into his shoulder as you try to keep your knees steady.
“I didn’t know, I just said what the cards showed—” You rasp. Barnes doesn’t seem pleased by your answer, jaw muscle ticing.
“I don’t believe in yer magical horseshit. I know it’s all tricks and acts. How did ya know?”
“The cards aren’t magical. Each card has a meaning that can be understood in different ways, it’s my job to apply them to whoever walks into my tent. The cards just reveal thoughts you have not quite spoken aloud—ideas at the back of your mind. They ask you to confront your inner self. You knew Rumlow was a traitor before the cards, you had a suspicion, but you did not act on it until prompted by the cards.” You wheezed out. The outlaw slowly releases your throat, his face controrting into something closer to frustration than rage. Your palms brace flat on his chest as you steady yourself against him.
“Deep down, you already knew he was a traitor.” You reiterate.
“You’re a fuckin’ witch.” He breathes, then runs a hand through his messy hair. Blood streaks across his forehead, clumping his strands of hair. His head tilts as he looks down at you. His face has relaxed, as if a silent clarity had overcome him. “Even if ya deny it… ya did warn me.”
You clear your throat, hand raising to your neck as you brush your fingers over the tender flesh where he had gripped you. “You warned yourself.”
He stares down at you, then frowns guiltily. “Apologies, darlin’. I shouldn’t have done that to ya.”
You believe him.
You hold your breath as his fingers briefly skim over your neck. His gaze falls deeper, his eyes following the curve of your breast that was half-exposed by your robe. The fabric was bunched into a deep v, leaving the swell of your breasts, sternum, and skin down to your belly button exposed. The outlaw sucks in a deep, shuddering breath, then stalks away with a frustrated growl.
“Barnes—” you call to him softly.
“Bucky.” He corrects.
You catch a glance at yourself in the mirror. The silk robe hangs perfectly from your curves, blood smeared across your chest and neck. You suck in your own deep breath, sweeping your hair over your shoulders as you hesitantly approach the outlaw. He paced like the beasts Elkhorn kept caged up, endlessly forced to perform for cruel crowds. You knew what he needed. A delicate touch, a sweetness to lean on.
“Speak to me.” You whisper to him, gentle hands guiding him to the edge of your bed. The canopy was draped with deep purple fabrics, furs, and blankets over the straw mattress. He silently obliges.
“One of my boys, one I thought I could trust. He betrayed me. Thought he could make a little gang of his own and overthrow me from the inside.” The outlaw explains. His voice is stiff, and his posture is tense. You smooth a palm over his forearm, and your thigh presses against his as you sit closely together.
There is a distant look in his eye as he stares past you at the wall of the tent. It shifts with the cool breeze outside, rising and falling like the night itself breathes. “I dealt with it.”
You cock your head to the side, hand running up his arm as you examine his face with a frown. “Dealt with it?”
His eyes snap to yours, and your hand wavers in hesitation. There is a darkness in his eyes. His expression made goosebumps rise across your skin. You could only explain it as something primal, something caught between violence and arousal.
“I made them pay.” He explains, his body twisting as he faces you fully. A bloodied hand raises, his thumb rubbing across your cheek as he cradles your face. “After two days, they begged me to end it. To end their lives.”
“And did you?” You dare to whisper back. His thumb traces inward, across your lower lip.
“No.” He says simply. “I cut out their tongues so they could no longer beg. I made them pay.”
Your eyes must have been wide in shock because he chuckled, his hand sweeping through your hair. Then, with an uncharacteristic softness to his tone, he utters a question. “Can I kiss you?”
Your heart thunders in your ears, a short gasp leaving you as your lips part. In all your travels, you have heard stories of women who could make men fall in love with them with just their eyes. Women who used their bodies and seduced their way to the top. Even violent men like Bucky had one weakness—a woman who showed them kindness. A woman who could momentarily take control. The men would let their minds drift away; the burdens were lifted, if only for a night.
Heat pools between your legs. You nod, a hand reaching to stroke across his jaw. The two of you meet in mutual desperation and touch once gentle, now needy. His tongue brushes against your lips, effortlessly parting them as he licks into your mouth. A moan escapes your throat at the taste of his tongue.
Your hands find the front of his shirt, blindly unbuttoning as he grips your hair in one hand. The outlaw groans as his hand slides across your shoulders, pushing away the robe. Your top half is exposed, nipples have hardened, and silk has pooled at your waist.
As your tongues tangle, Bucky tilts his head to gain better access to your mouth. Your gasps meet his as he moans heavily into your mouth. His hands trace along your body, one squeezing your waist and hips, the other coming to grasp your breast.
With a tug, you pull his shirt free. The two of you part, your head lulling back as he paints sloopy, feverish kisses down your neck. A groan rises in your throat as you lean into him, one hand gripping his dark hair and the other beginning to palm him through his pants.
His kisses move further down, head dipping as he licks a stripe across your breast. He takes a nipple into his mouth, kissing and sucking as you gasp and lean into him. The space between your legs is throbbing; a wet neediness rising.
You clutch his thigh, squirming with desire. The stubble along his jaw prickles your flesh, and a shudder runs down your spine. Your hands find his, easing his grip on your hips as you slide off the bed. Lowering yourself to the floor on your knees, you sit between his legs. Bucky lets out a groan as he looks down at you. His pupils are blown, and his lips are swollen and glossy. Your hands trace up his thighs, and your quick fingers relieve him of his belt.
“Let me.” You hum to him. You tilt your head, your cheek brushing against his knee. His adams apple bobs as he swallows hard. “I can make you feel good.”
You can see his bulge under the fabric. He eagerly helps you pull his pants down, his cock springing free already fully hard. You press a kiss to the tip. His cock twitches in response and a low moan vibrates in his chest. You look up at him through your lashes, biting your lip. He leans back, looking at the tent roof, as his chest rises and falls with a loud, satisfied sigh.
There was a power that resonated in your chest, seeing the outlaw so vulnerable under your touch. He did not protest your lead, instead eagerly following your command. You take him into your mouth slowly, one hand running up his thigh as the other wraps around his length.
You bob your head, feeling him tense with pleasure beneath you. As you come up, you whisper to him quietly. “Relax.”
As your tongue swirls over his tip, then down his broad length, you feel his hips rock beneath you. His hand comes to fist your hair, subtly guiding you as you take him fully into your mouth once more. You follow his needs, taking notice of each pleasured twitch or motion in response to your touch. His fingers tangle in your long locks of hair, tugging as you pull unimaginable, explicit sounds from the outlaw.
“Fuck—” He groans above you, his breath coming in short pants. You hum in response, relishing the sensation of him falling to pieces beneath you. The spot between your legs was slick, and wetness was beginning to drip down your inner thigh. There was a selfish urge within you that desired to reach down between your legs to gift yourself some friction.
You swallowed him down deeper, flattening your tongue against his ridgid length. His hips started to jerk, stronger than the previous gentle rocking. You could feel him growing undone, his breath coming shorter, and his nails desperately digging into your scalp as he desperately tried to guide your head deeper and deeper.
You obliged, but only as you felt his cock twitch once more did you pull away fully. Not yet. You weren’t finished with him yet. The outlaw let out a pained grumble. His hands caressed your shoulders as you rose to your feet.
“Darlin’—” Bucky protests, but you shush him.
“How much do you want me, hm?” You ask him. He has propped himself up onto his elbows to look up at you. His cock was still erect, glistening in the candlelight from your saliva.
“I want you.” He affirms.
“How desperately? Would you get on your knees for me? Beg for me?” You say it breathlessly. You take one of his hands in yours, pressing a kiss to the palm.
His breath stutters. “Yes.”
“Go on then.” As the words leave your mouth, your eyes flicker upwards. You look at him through your lashes.
“Please, sweetheart—” He whines. You cock your head to the side, peppering more kisses along each fingertip.
“Louder.”
“Please.” He begs. You smirk down at him wickedly, shifting closer. Your palm meets his chest, pushing him back down onto the bed as his elbows buckle beneath him.
“Lie back.” You instruct, helping guide his legs so he lies flat along the bed. In one fluid motion, you straddle his waist, his silk robe still pooling around your hips. You lean over him, taking one of the waist straps of your robe. With slow breaths, you move the soft fabric across his bloodied chest, tracing each vein and muscle before finally grazing it across his nipples. He shudders beneath you, his grip bruising where he grasps your hips.
“Say it again.” You breathe. You are embarrassingly wet as you sit perched upon him.
“Please. I need you.” He obeys, and another wave of arousal washes over you. Only now did you give in to your selfish desires, dead rolling back as you ground your hips slowly. Your lips parted, a small mewling moan leaving you as you clenched around nothing. You flatten a hand over his chest, allowing him to help guide you as you raise onto your knees.
With one gentle movement, you lower yourself onto him. Your wet heat engulfs him, and the two of you groan in unison. You feel yourself stretch around him, and you moan as you allow your body to take him in completely. His hands tighten their hold on your waist.
Bucky looks at you with a slightly slack-jawed expression. “Fuck, sweetheart. I think I’m gonna make ya my wife.”
You manage a smile through your own arousal, your hand gliding up and down his chest as you move your hips in a grinding motion. You gasp out a low, “Oh yeah?”
His head tips back with a moan as you clench around him. You experiment momentarily, brows drawn and biting your lip, until you find a grinding rhythm that ignites a fire within you. Bucky meets you halfway, helping guide you with his hands still gripping your hips. Your head lulls forward, small panting gasps leaving you as your eyes squeeze shut.
“I’ll make you beg for that too…Fuck—” You whine, and Bucky chuckles beneath you. He continues to help direct your hips, and your thighs begin to shake as you lower and raise yourself.
A strangled cry leaves you as Bucky’s hand lowers, his thumb circling your clit. Pleasure spikes up your spine, your knees wobbling as you nearly double over at the sensation. His fingers swirl with purpose, pulling all manner of illicit words and sounds from your throat.
“You like that, sweetheart?” Bucky hummed.
Just as you feel like sobbing from the pleasure, you cock your head to the side. With a deep breath, you tug Bucky’s shoulders, pulling him upright to meet you. The two of you clash, breath hot. His arms wrap around you, pinning you to his chest as he kisses you with a primal hunger. You moan into his mouth, your tongue sloppily moving against his as he begins to thrust vigorously.
You could feel your climax building steadily within you, the peak of a tumbling wave that had not yet crested. Bucky was a panting, sweaty mess beneath you. He greedily kissed and sucked along your neck, head dipping as he ran his tongue along your collarbone.
Your own head fell, teeth grazing across his neck. He tastes like salt and copper. You nuzzled your nose against his jaw, taking his earlobe between your teeth. Deep within you, you felt his cock twitch.
You wrap your arms over his shoulders, your fingers tugging at his hair. That pulled a groan from him, the noise vibrating across your skin. With a devious smile pressed against his cheek, you lean in close to his ear. Breath hot, you whisper into his ear.
“Come for me.”
As if he had been waiting for those exact words, he explodes within you. The sensation tips you over the edge, a thundering in your ears defeans you as your eyes roll back into your head. You clench around Bucky tightly, your body milking every last drop of him as he lazily ruts the last of his energy into you.
The two of you pant, catching a breath as you both come to a halt. The outlaw nuzzles your neck with a content sigh, then laughs against your sweaty skin.
“I wasn’t jokin’ earlier.” He finally speaks up, his voice somewhat more dignified now that he wasn’t a moaning mess beneath you.
“Hm?” You respond sleepily, too fucked-out to be bothered opening your eyes.
“I’m gonna steal ya away from here. Make ya my goddamn wife.”
Against your better judgement, you believed him.

Bucky took a deep breath as he sat in the announcers’ booth in the sports stadium. He was about to make a total fool of himself and he was hoping it would be worth it. Y/N said sweet talk wouldn’t work on her, so Bucky decided to step up his game. They say actions speak louder than words, right?
The field hockey team was currently running drills toward the end of their practice and he knew this was his moment. He flipped on the microphone, turned on the stadium speakers, and signaled to his collaborators to get in position.
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off of you
You’d be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
Bucky took a few steps down the bleachers as the field hockey team paused their training to determine where the singing was coming from.
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I’m alive
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off of you
He pointed right at Y/N as he emphasized the ‘you’ of the last line. A brief pause followed the verse then he heard a whistle from the drum major and the handful of marching band members he coerced started playing their respective instruments to the familiar tune. The girls on the field started giggling at the interruption and all eyes were on Bucky. He gave a quick wink to Y/N before continuing.
I love you, baby
And if it’s quite alright
I need you, baby
To warm the lonely night
I love you, baby
Trust in me when I say
Oh pretty baby
Don’t bring me down, I pray
Oh pretty baby
Now that I’ve found you stay
And let me love you, baby
Let me love youuuu
By this point he noticed a security guard in a bright yellow shirt approaching and he knew he had to make a quick exit. He stood in the middle of the bleachers and started running down toward the bottom row. The band continued on playing as Bucky made his escape. Another security guard was making his way up the bleachers, so Bucky pivoted and started running laterally. He was lucky in that his pursuers were wannabe mall cops who weren’t in the best shape so out-running them was a breeze. He looked back down at the field hockey team and found them all laughing heartily at the encounter while Y/N stood there in a state of shock and amusement. Bucky put on his entertaining hat and paused for a moment and started dancing. One of the security guards caught up to him, but Bucky jumped down a row on the bleachers and gave him a quick pat on the bum before darting off. He jumped off the bleachers and gave a quick bow to his audience before running out of the stadium. The whole crowd was cheering and laughing, except for the one person he was seeking approval from. He caught her eye as she stood there with her arms crossed, shaking her head, with a wry smile on her face.
Bucky sat in the lecture hall and tapped his pencil on the desk while the TA handed out the test. He was ill prepared and he knew it. He could usually bullshit his way through his courses but calculus took no prisoners.
He let out a deep sigh as he studied the first question, wracking his brain to remember the unit circle.
“James Barnes,” he heard. He popped his head up and saw his professor searching for him. Bucky squeezed past his classmates and strode down the steps to the lecturer’s desk.
“James, I just received a call that there’s been a family emergency that requires your attention. You’re excused from the exam to go deal with the situation. Email me once everything has been resolved and we’ll find a time for you to make up the test.”
Bucky’s heart dropped and he was immediately concerned with the news. Things must’ve been pretty bad for him to be pulled from class. He wasn’t even sure how he responded to the professor but he numbly rushed out of the lecture hall.
As he burst out of the building, he found Y/N standing there with a knowing look on her face.
“Well someone’s in a rush,” she commented.
“Sorry, I can’t talk. I’ve gotta call my Ma.”
“Family emergency?”
“Yeah, how’d you…know…”
She merely shrugged. “There is no family emergency, is there?” he asked.
She shook her head with a growing smile. “You did this?”
“I mean you did embarrass yourself in front of the entire field hockey team for me, so I figured it was the least I could do.”
“So what now?” he asked.
“Are you telling me you’ve been chasing after me all these weeks and you don’t have any date ideas?” she retorted.
“Oh it's a date now?”
She gave him a warm smile and ceded, “It’s a date.”
They found themselves walking along the boardwalk as the sun began to peek through the clouds. The beach was close to the campus but just far enough away that it wasn’t usually flooded with students. Considering it was a weekday, the boards were pretty empty aside from the occasional retiree walking their dog.
“Have you been out here before?” he asked her.
“I think I came here with my family when we first looked at the school, but that was years ago.”
“I come out here to think sometimes.”
She looked at him with a sense of wonder, “What do you have to think about? Your poor choices?”
He scoffed at that, “If only it were that simple.”
Before she could ask a follow up question, they heard two chimes of a bell. Bucky reacted instantly and grabbed her elbow pulling her toward him as the surrey bike flew past them, two teenage girls giggling as they avoided impact.
“Never understood the appeal of those things,” he commented.
“You’ve never been on a surrey?” she asked. He shook his head and she grabbed his hand.
“Come on,” she said, pulling him toward the bike rental stand.
Moments later, they were pedaling away, learning how to steer via trial and error. After a few minor crashes, they fell into a rhythm, pedaling together on the open boards.
“You know, you’re actually pleasant when you put your guard down,” he stated.
“Oh is that so?” she challenged.
“Honest. So why do you act out the way you do?”
She let out a deep sigh, “Ah, onto the hard hitting questions now.”
“Don’t try to talk around this. I want an answer.”
She thought for a moment, “I don’t like to do what people expect. Why should I have to live up to other people’s expectations?”
“So you disappoint them first.”
She shrugged a silent confirmation.
“Well you screwed up,” he said. She turned to look at him and he continued, “You never disappointed me.” A blush crept up her cheeks and she turned away, hiding the smile that was slowly forming. Giddiness was something she hadn’t felt in a long time.
“What about you? What’s your story?”
“Grew up in Brooklyn. Raised by a single mom. I have a little sister.”
“And how do you explain your tough exterior?”
“I just genuinely don’t care what people think of me.”
“And why do you think that is?”
“My best friend growing up was a bit of a runt and he was always picked on. Yet even when he was bullied, he wanted to be liked and he would do anything to be accepted. And that always made me so upset because he was so much better than them and yet all he wanted was their approval. I didn’t want to be like that. So I decided to just go out there and be myself and maybe I am an asshole, but at least I’m not pretending to be someone I’m not.”
“That’s oddly refreshing. I wish I could be more like that.”
“The only part that sucks is that I met you.”
She scoffed, “And that sucks?”
“It does, because I do care about what you think of me.”
She became flustered yet again, but this time she deflected with humor. “Bucky Barnes, do not get all cheesy on me now.”
“I thought you liked cheese?”
“I mean, I like some havarti on a sandwich but I’m lactose intolerant when it comes to men.”
“Understood, no more cheesy lines.” They sat in comfortable silence, pedaling along when the bells and music of the arcade graced their ears.
“How would you feel about a little friendly competition?” he asked, as if reading your mind.
“I hope you’re ready to lose,” she replied, shooting him a big smile.
“Let me guess, you want to show off your strength on the boxing machine?” she said, pointing to the seven foot machine that was covered in red, white, and blue.
“I’m insulted that you think I’m that much of a moron.”
“Then what did you have in mind? Mortal Kombat?”
“Skeeball.”
She grinned, “Are you sure you want to do that?”
“Oh, I’m sure,” he replied. Y/N was very competitive, and Bucky couldn’t believe how much of a turn on it was.
They lined up next to each other and slid two quarters into the slots as the balls poured into place. They both looked toward each other and Bucky counted them down. On three, they both grabbed a ball and rolled it up their respective lanes. Y/N’s hit the middle slot with ease, while Bucky’s reached the high score on the top corner. Y/N glanced over at him and saw his score adding up quicker than her own. She decided to intervene. As he wound up his next ball, she bumped her hip into his side and his ball flew off target, falling into the bottom of the board.
“You’re playing dirty with me?” he asked.
She shrugged, “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I think that was just a bad shot.”
“Bad shot my ass,” he grinned, as he shot his next ball. He couldn’t let her get away with that, so he waited for her to grab her last ball. As soon as she wound up, he swooped in and grasped her hips, picking her up with ease and flipping her over his shoulder.
“Bucky! Put me down!”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that.”
“I have one more shot left!”
“Take it up here then.”
“You can’t be serious.”
“Oh I am completely serious.” He took a few steps back from the skeeball machines and stopped. “Shoot away,” he smiled.
She hit him on his back with her free hand until she realized her efforts were pointless, he was too strong.
“Fine, but I want a rematch,” she gave in. Bucky turned her so that she was facing the lane and she somehow managed to aim straight enough to make contact, but it didn’t have enough force. The ball rolled back down towards them and Bucky deftly placed Y/N on the ground and picked up the ball. He lined up and took her final shot, landing it in the top right corner. Her score totaled and she had outscored Bucky by 50 points.
She stared at him and said, “This time, I’m beating you without your help.”
They played a few more games before switching to the basketball shooting game. Bucky must’ve played basketball at some point in his life because he made most of his shots. They continued wandering through the arcade, stopping to play games that interested them. Y/N spotted a photo booth across the way and took Bucky’s hand, pulling him behind the curtain.
Bucky fed his money into the machine and they browsed through the templates until they found one with stars around the border.
“Okay, silly pose first,” Y/N announced as she pressed the start button. She stuck her tongue out at the camera while Bucky gave her bunny ears and crossed his eyes. The second frame came quickly and they were captured in a candid transition to the next pose. The third frame they were ready for. As Y/N bared her pearly whites to the camera, Bucky placed his hand on her cheek and turned her toward him.
Before she even realized what was happening, Bucky leaned in and captured her lips with his. She initially froze but easily fell into the kiss, allowing his tongue access to her mouth. She placed her hand on his shoulder and he tightened his grip on her, not wanting to let go. They were interrupted by the sound of the photostrip printing out. Y/N pulled away and collected the photos, studying the two of them and how adorable the photos came out.
“I guess our time here is up,” he commented, planting a quick kiss on her cheek. Y/N poked her head out from behind the curtain to look around the arcade. There was no one else in sight, so she returned to the booth. “I think we can stay in here just a little longer,” she said, finding his lips again.
Giddy was the only word to describe her current mood. She had forgotten what it felt like to be giddy. She couldn’t exactly pinpoint the last time she felt this way, but she thought it was around the time she turned nine and had her birthday party at the roller rink.
As she walked back into her apartment building, with Bucky smiling by her side, she knew she’d remember this moment. Little did she know how quickly the mood would shift.
She was unlocking the door to her apartment when she heard that voice.
“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” Zemo called, approaching the couple with Sam in his wake.
Bucky felt a chill go down his spine. He knew nothing good could come from this interaction.
“Hey guys,” Bucky said tensely, obviously not wanting to engage in conversation.
“We haven’t seen you around much, Barnes,” Zemo added.
“Been busy,” he said tersely.
“You’ve been spending time with our next door neighbor here and haven’t even bothered to swing by and say hi?”
Y/N was studying this interaction closely, sensing the tension in the air.
“Guess it just slipped my mind,” he retorted.
“Well, I have to commend you on the commitment,” Zemo smiled.
“Commitment?” Y/N questioned, looking at Bucky. He clenched his fist, highly considering knocking out his former friend just to get him to stop talking.
“Leave it man,” Sam said, nudging Zemo. But it only encouraged him more.
“Commitment to the bit,” Zemo said, looking right at Y/N this time. She returned his stare, trying to figure out what his angle was. She didn’t bite, but he elaborated anyway.
“Barnes here only asked you out because we dared him to.” His gaze shifted to Bucky and he said, “Job well done, by the way. It really looks like you’re interested in her. Would’ve fooled me.” And with that, Zemo walked off. Sam stood there and gave Bucky an apologetic look before he turned and followed his roommate.
Y/N stared up at Bucky and he was afraid to look down and meet your eye.
“So all of this was just a big joke to you?” she asked.
“Y/N, let me explain…”
“Fuck you,” she said, biting back tears. She walked into the apartment and slammed the door in his face. Tears streamed down her face as she tried to be strong. This was why she didn’t let people in. She couldn’t let herself get hurt.
“Fuck!” Bucky said, as he walked out of the apartment complex. He slammed his fist into the glass window next to the door. The glass shattered but remained intact, leaving a strangely beautiful web of broken shards. He studied his fist, not bothered by the pain, but he knew he needed to tend to his bleeding knuckles. He went home, trying to figure out how he would dig himself out of this one.

Haunted
“It's getting dark and it's all too quiet
And I can't trust anything now
And it's coming over you like it's all a big mistake”
Bucky Barnes x F!Reader
Summary: Reader escapes her abusive ex and moves to the alps. Bucky is in denial about some things, like what the year is, and if he’s dead. Part 1/6
Warnings: Mentions of an abusive boyfriend, Ghosts.
Masterlist Pt.Two
You shiver as a freezing cold breeze finds its way through the cracks of the window. The train is old, insulation and heat are nowhere to be found. You sit back in your seat cupping your hands for warmth, looking around at all the empty seats, you’re sure its only you on the train, no one wants to go to this tiny village in Austrian Alps. You made sure when you picked it, population of only 200, no one would find you there.
Some people might say you’re crazy for moving halfway across the world because of a crazy ex, but it wasn’t just that. You couldn’t shake the feeling of disappearing. How freeing it would be, to live just for yourself. You know it was the right thing to do, you had to much emotional baggage and you left it in the taxi at the airport in New York. It was also who you left in that taxi, they are the reason you walked into an airport with nothing but the clothes on your back and a purse.
They didn’t know you were hidden underneath three layers of shirts, pants, underwear, socks. You looked like a hobo, but no one could tell you had shorts, leggings, and jeans underneath your baggy sweats. No one noticed the sports bra overtop the strapless one, or the doubling of tank tops. Maybe they noticed the light blue of your favorite t-shirt popping out of the collar of your grandma's cable knit sweater. Did they notice the amount of gold bracelets or the diamond rings on your fingers? He didn’t, you hid your hands in your sleeves around him. TSA didn’t bat an eye though. Your purse contains everything, your whole life stuffed into a school bag you’d been pretending was a new purse. You made up the excuse that you needed more organization. You practically brought nothing; he’d notice if it was stuffed to the gills.
You told him you were picking up your cousin from the airport, you knew he wouldn’t let you go by yourself, so you couldn’t pack a bag. You just got extremely lucky when he said he’d wait in the taxi. That was 10 hours ago, and it was night then, it’s somehow 2 pm here. You were exhausted and freezing, you just wanted to get to your cabin.
You bought it in secret when your aunt died last year. Instead of putting you in her will, she left cash behind in the cat food container. She knew your situation, and she knew you’d be the only one to think about her cats after she died. When you found the money, it had a note saying to make a secret savings account, never tell a soul, one day the moment would come when you’d had enough. You know your aunt didn’t mean move to Austria, but what can you do when your abusive boyfriend is a secret agent for shield. You have to be this dramatic, taking chances wasn’t an option now. You had to go as far as you could. Even though disappearing excited you, it was very necessary. The chance was minimal that he would ever find you, but it was enough to keep you looking around the train.
When you make it to the tiny town you don't realize there is a welcome parade waiting for you. It really only consists of some local women and pies. They keep you entertained with their broken English, as you all hike your way up to your new cabin. They tell you how lucky they are to have you, how excited they are for summer and to be able to show you around more properly.
You thank one of the women as she hands you a key, "The bank sent this from the city.". You wave them off, turning the key and stepping inside. Once you're in the door you're standing in the kitchen, a countertop that doubles as a bar separates it from the open concept living room. A wooden staircase leads to a loft bedroom. You smile at the thought of no more slamming doors.
You do see one door, making your way towards it. Opening it reveals an outdated bathroom that needed some tlc. You covered your nose at the stench of mildew. There was a major leak, you need to find where it comes from so it doesn't get worse. You make your way up the stairs, and you search around for the cause of your grief. A sizable patch of mold is found behind your bed, under the windowsill. The realtor's photos did not disclose this damage.
As you’re bent over accessing the costs, you hear a loud creak come from downstairs. It's enough for you to jump up and run to the banister, searching for what caused it. You find nothing, you tell yourself it's just the wind and shake it off. It's too early to be getting spooked. This cabin is so old, there's bound to be creaks and whispers ever once and a while.
You make your way downstairs to have a closer look around. You check the cupboards to find that the women stocked you up with the basic necessities, sugar, flour, salt. You find farm fresh milk, cheese, and eggs in the fridge. You close the tin door; the women were nice enough to give you food but not enough to dust the place. You find some supplies under the sink and get to work.
You dust old pictures of strangers, as you're knocking down cobwebs in the corners a powerful scent clouds your mind. You stand against the wall, steadying yourself. Pine and mint, it is gone before it was truly there. No matter how hard you try to find the smell again, it's gone. You try to explain it away to yourself.
You're done by the time the sun finishes setting. The cabin envelopes you in a dim yellow glow from the old lamps. Ornate rugs where found, rolled up inside an armoire. The leather of the couch gleamed due to the scrubbing and polishing you did. A warmth fills the room, something you haven't felt in your own home in years. You run into the kitchen grabbing a glass of milk and a piece of pie.
You devour your pie and milk before you can find a watchable channel on the tv with an antenna. You settle on the hallmark channel. The acting is enough to make you cringe. But you know entertainment is slim pickings in the mountains. Throwing a fleece blanket around your shoulders your curl up into a ball. You start to fall asleep when the princess on the screen admits she was not who she said she was.
Right as your eyes close the front door bursts open. White flurries intrude on the warmth you created. You jump back, holding your chest. You know this is it, he found you that quick. When no one enters, you run and slam the door shut, locking it behind yourself. You can't help but laugh manically at yourself for clutching your pearls. Turning, you make your way upstairs, today was hectic, and you're too exhausted to deal with anything,
You wiggle your way into the flannel sheets. As you fall asleep you think about everything you left behind. Your family, a few friends, him. Your family was the hardest part. Your little brother Max will understand one day. You are going to miss out on so much, you just hope they don't hate you forever.
A stinging stabs your eye, and before you know it, tears are pooling on your pillow. It is all becoming overwhelming. Leaving your whole family behind, spending all of your aunt's money on a cabin, being alone in this cabin, the constant fear that he is coming. You had luxuries in New York; places to run, people that can hear everything. You don't know what he would do out here, especially because of what you did.
Before you can spiral completely you hear the faint sound of a train whistle. Strange, you think to yourself. The tracks are a mile away back in town, there's no way you should be able to hear them out here. The whistle sounds like it's getting closer and closer. You stand from the bed and look outside the window; you're greeted with darkness and still trees.
With no sights on a train, your heart jumps out of your chest when the house begins to rumble beneath your feet. It's like only the cabin was being affected by the nearby train. You walk to the center of the room, covering your ears as the whistle gets unbearably loud. The cabin starts shaking violently, causing a picture frame to crash on the ground. You let out a scream and fall to your knees.
Everything ceases. The house is silent, your rapid breathing echos off the walls. You raise your head, looking around, you half expect something to pop out at you. When nothing comes, you stand and slowly walk down the stairs. The only thing out of place, shattered glass.
You cross the room to the kitchen, grabbing the broom off the hook. You're still trying to explain it away and catch your breath as you sweep up the shards. Maybe there is a different set of tracks nearby. You're being paranoid because it's your first night. It will take time for everything to be okay again. You toss what is left of the frame, practically crawling back to bed.
You fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow, exhaustion overtaking you. Your dreams are no reprieve from your fast-moving life. You're hurt really bad, and you're trying to flag down a soldier in the woods for help. He's running away from you, holding his shoulder, screaming a man's name. Its muffled, and his face is fuzzy, the only thing you could make out were images of dog tags.
You drift to a happier place as you smell mint and pine again. Instead of clouding your senses, this time it relaxes them. letting your dreams ease your anxiety while you slept.

Seek & Destroy
Summary: Fueding with your former friend on the biggest sports entertainment show and it all explodes after an especially intense match
A/n: So I used to be a big fan of WWE as a kid but recently I got back because of Rey Mysterio vs his son( still mad he lost lol), Rhea, and of course Becky mf Lynch, the list goes on. and I write this to mix my two favorite things ever.
Word Count: 5k words
Warnings: Some smut but not alot, use of the word puppy, Natasha being a dick, wrestling, Kate is the best bestie ever
Smut below so 18+, minors do not interact, Happy reading besties please like and reblog!!!
“ you and Kate are going against Hill and Romanoff tonight”.
Not how you wanted this Monday night show to go. Both of you had just gotten back from doing a couple of live shows out of state, Kate wanted to use today to rest up but it seems like Danvers has other plans for the two of you.
“After the mess that was Super Slam Danvers? Are you insane?”
“ just cause Bishop almost got her arm broken by Hill doesn’t mean we can’t move yours and the shields plot forward,” Carol tells you,” now go out with Bishop for your segment before I get mad”.
You dramatically exit her office, earning a chuckle from the older woman as Kate spots you and walks along with you to get to the ring.
“ so are we - “
“ going against Romanoff and Hill? Yeah, we are Kate,” you say unenthusiastically. All you wanted was a moment where you didn’t have to fight the group, talk about them when doing side commentary every once in a while or have to see their stupid faces.
Sure you were thankful for the airtime as it gave you more opportunities out of Wwe but it would always involve you and Natasha’s mysterious past that everyone and their mother wanted to know about. Natasha would do her part and you would do the same to ensure nobody knew about it since at the end of the day, it’s nobody’s business but each other's.
“ So that means we’re going after Rodgers and Barnes? ” Kate says happily.
The Devil works hard but Carol fucking Danvers works harder in the placement of matches as the crowd is at its most intense after Steve and Bucky go on. You had to give her credit for that at least even in your annoyed mood.
“Something about making the crowd go crazy before the main event as mine and the Shields current furred which I get but I just wanted a chill day today Bishop,” you groan,” why can’t I ever get that after doing a couple of lives shows as well?”
“ awe does the little puppy want a break ?”
Both you and Kate turn around to see Natasha and Maria appear, dressed and ready to fight against the two of you.
“ Romanoff I didn’t even call your name why the fuck did you appear?” You say as Kate tries to put space between all of you.
“ Just wanted to see the little puppy before me and Hill here smush you two like bugs,” she tells the two of you before Kate starts to giggle out of nervousness.
“ shouldn’t you be practicing then Romanoff instead of being a rude bitch ?” Kate speaks up.
“ maybe your guard should shut up before I shove my foot up her -“
“ Natasha how about we both go before Carol throws a fit about how you aren’t using this anger out on the ring,” Maria steps in before Kate ends up getting hurt again,” ladies, good luck out there in the ring.”
She might have to play your enemy on camera but she was always professional for the most part which you liked about her.
Why couldn’t Natasha be the same?
“ so they want to recruit you straight out of college then?”
“Apparently they saw some of my matches here and wanted me to head straight to Wwe as I’d be wasting time at NXT,” Natasha explains as the two of you sat in her parent’s backyard, enjoying the warm summer weather before school starts again.
Both of you were long-life wrestling fans, it was the start of your friendship when Natasha had seen one of your Wwe shirts and the rest was history.
“ They saw you fighting Jones then? Please tell me they had Melina explain that Jones is hard to keep,” you tell her, wondering if maybe they had caught you in action as well. It was a long shot but it would be amazing if the both of you went together to achieve both of your dreams.
“ Apparently Danvers used to know Alexi and had come a couple of times on her own so she must know,” Natasha says,” should I take it, babe?”
“ Natasha,” you start off,” this is the opportunity of a lifetime, go do it”.
.
“ you ready to beat Romanoff and her henchwoman?” Kate asks as you stand by the entrance, not long before both of you are set to go out. The crowd was buzzing with joy and excitement all around about the match that was about to happen while all you wanted to do was rest up after the last show.
“ The following contest is scheduled for one fall,” you hear the announcer start,” introducing first to the ring, they are the tag team duo of Hawkette and the Enchanter!!!!!!!!!”
All your tiredness goes away as the both of you run out, the crowd going wild as you make your way to the ring, ready to beat the two other women to a pulp. As Kate goes around the ring greeting a couple of fans, you head to the ring and see that 1/3 of the Shield next to the commentator's table, Wanda Maximoff, or what she’s better known in the WWE universe as the Harbinger of Chaos.
Being brought onto the red brand about 2 years ago as a rookie who brought chaos everywhere she went. It only took about 9 months before Natasha had recruited her to be in her trio and since then, they’ve been unstoppable. You had some worry in the back of your mind as to why she’s here but push it off as Kate makes her way to the ring, choosing to do some stretches as they announce the next two up to the ring.
Right as the first note of Detrone by Bad Omens play and Smoke appears, everyone in the stadium goes crazy. If there were a contest between the both of you to see who’d get more cheers, the redhead would very much win easily.
“ And their opponents, 2/3 of the Sheild, Black Widow, and Commander Hill!!!!!!!”
Kate rolls her eyes as they slowly make their way to the ring, Natasha keeping eye contact with you to intimidate you which makes the crowd around you go crazy. Twitter must be going crazy right now that’s for fucking sure.
“ Ready to kick the Widows ass ?” Kate yells as the two other women approach the ring.
“ I was born ready,” you yell back.
Natasha whispers something in Maria’s ear before jumping into the ring, Kate gets out of the ring. The redhead takes off her jacket to show her dark red gear, making a point to show off her arms to the camera while you roll your eyes again at her antics.
Once the shield's entrance songs stop and the bell goes off, you waste no time trying to punch her but failing.
“C'mon puppy you can’t beat the black widow so easily,” she yells as she easily has you pinned,” give up now “.
“ Never,” she hears you yell before you get out of her pin, not even getting to two before you escape and quickly tap in Kate to come to wrestle her for a bit. Natasha stays on the ring floor shocked before she’s met with Kate’s fist from behind her.
18 minutes pass before it’s you and Natasha yet again, your opponent a little sore from the power move that Kate had done on her earlier. A good moment to get the Widow when she’s down for you to do the pin.
“Let's go y/n” you hear the stadium cheer as the widow yells in frustration before she tried to lift you up but you’re one second ahead of her, punching her in the gut to let you go.
“ Awe isn’t the big bad widow gonna beat her puppy?” You yell at her.
“ Not a fucking chance you bitch,” she retorts back when you manage to push her away. All this time where she’s caused both of you trouble and annoyance, beating her winning streak would bump her down a peg.
2 minutes of failed pins from Natasha before she’s distracted by a fan yelling straight-up nonsense at her, using the opportunity to kick her leg and making her fall. One more kick to her leg before quickly climbing to the top of the ropes and ending the match with a frog splash, and pinning Natasha down. Natasha tries her best to fight the grip you have on her.
“ Here are your winners, Hawkette and the Enchantor”, you hear them announce. Kate runs up to you and the both of you cheer as the rest of the stadium goes wild that the Black Widows streak has been beaten after all this time. You and Kate focus on the enormous win, not before Wanda jumps in the rings and pulls away Kate from your arms.
“ MAXIMOFF GET BISHOP,” Natasha yells at her team member before you dodge one of her hits and chaos ensues. Soon both of are struggling between the group of three, not before another of your friends, Monica Rambeau shows up to even the odds.
“ EVERYONE GET THE FUCK OUT,” the widows order as her 2 members are able to leave, and not before you, Monica, and Kate get to her.
“WHOS THE PUPPY NOW BITCH?” You scream as Kate and Monica help you attack her before the redhead leaves, her other two teammates at the entrance who run to their leader's aid.
“ you know that she’s gonna want a rematch?” Monica asks while you’re all on commercial and heading back to the locker rooms.
“ Not like I can say no after the reaction we got from you showing up Lieutenant Trouble,” you respond back while Kate chuckles. All your tag team partner hopes that it’s not a tag team match this time.
“ Danvers is definitely gonna make it a 1 on 1,” Monica pauses,” No offense Bishop”.
“ As long as I don’t have to be super kicked by Hill I don’t fucking care,” Kate says as the three of you walk into the locker room and no sight of your coworker. Her two members are here, just talking.
“ Where’s the Widow ?” Kate asks the two women.
“ she’s getting checked out in the medic area for a bruise,” Wanda starts off,” she’s pissed at y/n as per usual but I wanted to say overall a fun match to watch”.
“ I’m sorry you couldn’t fight against us,” Kate tells her and goes to start a convo with the other woman. While you all had to act like enemies, behind the camera you all had pretty good friendships.
Besides you and Natasha but you’ve gotten used to that at this point.
“ Honey, you do know that someday you gotta squash this beef with Romanoff before it gets worse?”
“ I’m trying,” you groan in annoyance as you change out of your gear, happy that you have a good 4 days to rest before the next live show.
“ well then how about you be good for me and try harder then?” Monica asks you in a sweet tone.
The universe seems to be against you as Natasha walks in right as Monica says that, the other three women walking out sensing the tension in the air. Honestly, it was a smart move as you wanted to do the same.
“ Wow look at you two lovebirds,” Natasha says in a bitter tone as she makes her way to her locker, trying so hard to not limp in front of you to show any weakness. You and Monica roll your eyes at the antics of the redhead near you.
“ Is someone jealous they don’t get any pussy, Romanoff ?” Your friend tells her in a mocking tone.
“At least I can go to a bar and get pussy easily with my charm Rambeau, it’s not like I need to buy someone drinks just to “
“ How about you be a woman and talk shit to my face Widow before I show you who-“ Monica says before you step in and take the slap for your friend as you do owe her.
“ y/n,” Monica yells as she checks up on you and Natasha stands there in disbelief. It’s her job to fight you weekly, throw punches at you on the ring yet the slap that she gave you made her feel nervous.
“ oh oh oh my fuck shit bitch,” Natasha goes on as she leaves the locker room and Kate runs into the rescue. She helps you to a chair as the medic comes to check up on how you’re doing, especially after the grueling match that occurred earlier.
They clear you to go back to the hotel room, sweet Kate being the amazing best friend that she is being you to your room with all the stuff you need to rest before you slowly drift off to sleep.
The rest of the week went by quickly as you found yourself doing interviews with some of the other wrestlers, participating in some Instagram lives for the Wwe account, working, doing the live show, and whatnot.
Natasha had seen you a couple of times throughout the week too but she still seemed to have that mean, cold attitude to everyone. You aren’t surprised as she was like that when you first got here.
Not long before you found yourself back at Monday night raw again, this time the show being in New York, prepared for your rematch with Natasha who chose to go out first to hype up the crowd. Carol had found it odd that the Widow wanted to do this but placed her to go first while you stood by the entrance by your best friend hyping you up.
“ Is my best friend gonna kick ass ?”
“ yea, I am Kate !” You exclaim.
“ make that crowds Monday ?”
“ Kick then widows sorry-“
“ y/n on in 15 seconds,” you hear the tech guy announce, Kate finishing the rest of her pep talk as the both of you.
“ And her opponent, accompanied to the ring by Hawkette, the Enchantor!!!” And as always you smile at the crowd’s reaction, loving how they always go crazy. Natasha rolls her eyes from the ring as your entrance song continues, thinking of how to beat you.
“ Hold my hand,” Kate yells at you, wasting no time questioning her as she holds your hand and spins you around for everyone to see. The Albany crowd goes crazy at this little move and you can just see all the gays on Twitter going crazy. If you had to be honest, it was fun pissing off Natasha and making the fans happy.
Meanwhile, your opponent felt a little jealous that your tag team member decided it would be cute to hold your hand. Deep down she knew that Carol never told her to do that to hype up the crowd. Kate wanted to make the redhead jealous, which only helped to fuel her jealousy of the younger woman.
“ let’s go y/n”, your best friend tells you, walking hand in hand to the ring as the fans try to give you a pep talk or scream about how they want you. Kate decides to high-five with fan, and take pictures aside you before she walks you up to the ring to head to the commentator's table, giving another thumbs up as you jump in.
“ Look like the puppy doesn’t have her guard to protect her huh?” She mocks.
“ I could say the same about you widow, both of your goons seem to not be here,” you spit back which earns a dirty from the woman across from you.
“ I want a clean fight, no funny business,” you hear the ref tell you before the bell rings and the match commences.
You easily dodge the first punch that the redhead throws at you, opting out the move away which earns a groan from your opponent.
“ How about you be a good pup and give up? Give the fans what they want. She yells back as the crowd is going wild.
“ Don’t be a wuss Widow,” you talk back before kicking her leg,” use that anger that you have in that body of yours and fight me “.
Natasha had been trained by the Eradicator herself right before she had retired, so giving into your opponent's tricks was not in the game today.
The match seemed to go on forever as both of you tried to pin each other to get it over with. Natasha not even making it to 3 before you jump away from her. Or managing to punch her in the face to lose her deadly grip on top of your body as the crowd around you watched in anticipation.
Looking around, one of the cameramen gives the signal that the match is almost over. Right as you try your last move, Natasha uses this opportunity to kick one of your legs causing you to fall down. The stadium goes wild as you groan in pain from the hard kick, but not even get a second to rest as Natasha uses her mentor's most famous finisher on you.
Everyone at that moment screams like crazy as she grabs your exhausted body, throwing it on the ring floor and bending your legs for her to be on top of you. The match is over right away as the ring goes off but Natasha takes a couple more seconds to stay in the position as a way to taunt you and your best friend watching.
“ Here is your winner,” the announcer starts,” Natasha Romanoff, THE BLACK WIDOW”.
The woman above you gets off of you but not before delivering one more insult to you as she grabs your chin so she can maintain eye contact with your tired body.
“ Never mess with the black widow puppy, or else you’ll feel my full wrath,” she tells you and shoves your body away. Kate jumps straight into the ring to check up on you as the other woman’s theme song is playing while the crowd chants her name.
“ ALL RIGHT TO COMMERCIAL,” one of the cameramen says as Kate gently grabs your body, careful as to not ignore you more. You don’t even realize when you’ve somehow made it back to the locker room and Kate it out of her gear into casual clothes while you are still in yours.
“ How long was I out?” You as the woman sitting in front of you.
“ An hour,” she tells you handing you her bottled water,” Danvers wanted me to say good match and that you should check Twitter when you’re back at the hotel”.
“ wow gotta love that,” you say sarcastically which earns a chuckle from Kate.
“ you need help getting up y/n?”
While you would gladly not need it, Kate takes your tired look as a yes as she helps you up and helps you out of your gear. All you want to do right now is head back to the hotel, eat the snacks you have there, and sleep for the rest of the night.
“ I’m gonna take you back to the Hotel, and you have mine or Monica’s number if anything happens to you,” Kate tells you as the both of you head out of the locker room.
“ Bishop!” You both hear someone say and slowly turn around to see Bucky, workout bag with him. Coming at the right time as your friend almost drops your tired body and he offers to carry you to the front of the stadium so the three of you can wait for the ride back to the hotel.
You don’t even realize that Bucky and Kate had dropped you back to your hotel until hours later til you get up and find yourself back in the room with a note next to the nightstand.
Have a good night x, text me if you need anything- Tag Team member <;3
Ps. Bucky said you owed him >:(
“ let me get my phone,” you say to yourself and go to check what Kate is up to.
Y/n : I owe Bucky ??????
Kate bait: I might have asked him to carry you back
Y/n: 🤨🤨🤨
Kate: to be fair he was there and I took the opportunity 🙄
Y/N: only cause you wanted more info on Wanda ????? Lil fruity if you ask me
Kate : my bad I have a crush on her but I got her number from him tho
Y/N: let’s fucking goooooooooo , get that girl Kate.
She deserves to find a girl, lord knows the shit you’ve gone through together since she joined the red brand.
Right as you are about to call her, someone comes knocking at your door and you wonder who might be here at this time.
“ Kate I’m fine go and get with the girl lord knows you -“ and you’re met with the woman from earlier, no gear, a blank expression in her casual clothes.
“ I’m not Kate puppy,” she teases before you try to slam the door in her face. Forgetting that she’s a strong woman the moment her foot blocks the door.
“ You know that all this puppy shit is annoying right Romanoff?” You start to tell her as she closes the door, unsure of what her motives are at this moment.
“ I’ve had a busy couple of weeks and I don’t need to deal with your ass coming here after the finisher you decided to use earlier-“
“ shut up,” she tells you, wasting no time in pushing you towards the bed,” I’m stressed and if I remember correctly, you’re the last person I’ve fucked since joining here.
“ no way-“
“ a good puppy follows their Mistress's order,” she says to you and shoves 2 fingers in your mouth”.
“ you wanna help me destress puppy?” She asks while you suck on your fingers and you nod enthusiastically.
“ I need your word,” she says to you.
“ yes I do,” and the woman on top of you wasted no time in kissing you, mind all over the place with the past few weeks. Both her other friends are out drinking, work being busy and she just needs to fuck someone til she’s tired.
“Be a good puppy for me and lick my pussy baby,” she orders as she gets off of you to take her shorts along with her underwear off. Laying right in the middle of the bed where you quickly follow.
It might have been a couple of years since the last time you both fucked but you still remember how to turn her into mush with your pussy eating skills. You can see how wet and puffy her pussy was in front of you, no doubt she had tried to make herself cum and failed.
“ stop looking at my pussy like a dumb puppy and lick-“ she orders before letting out a loud moan when you lick a long strip of her cunt.
“ fuck this is good,” she whines, trying her hardest not to break from being in control of you.
All this time she’s been in control and there was no way that you’d remember how to get her mind all empty. Yet the woman above you didn’t expect you to move your right hand away from her thigh and go straight for one of her tits under her shirt.
“ focus on my -
“ shut the fuck up you slut,” you say as you remove your mouth from her soaked cunt. You use the opportunity to sit on top of her and shove your wet fingers into her mouth. Natasha easily takes them in like the good girl that she was for you all those years ago.
“ is the big bad Black Widow submitting to her puppy???” She hears you say in a taunting tone.
All the woman under you can do is nod her head as she continues to taste herself on your fingers, her brain going empty at being called a slut by you.
“Maybe I should punish my needy slut for thinking she can come in all tough,” you say as you lightly slap her wet cunt,” for acting like she’s the one in control”.
“ no m’ control,” she moans out as you slap her pussy yet again,” I’m not the puppy here”.
“ Natty baby,” you say in a mocking tone as you slap her wet pussy,” I can see how hard you work out there. I know that you just want to submit to daddy like old times”.
“ just say the words and Daddy will fuck your pretty pussy til you can’t think “ you whisper in her ear.
“ is my slut gonna be a good girl for her daddy or be left to have her make herself cum huh needy kitten ?”
“Please Daddy,” she whines,” wanna be your mindless kitten”.
“ then how about you spread those pretty legs for me so I can eat you out,” you say as she rids herself off her shirt, a bit of a shock that the woman isn’t wearing a bra.
“Be a good girl and get those pretty legs spread for Daddy okay?” And without another word, she opens her legs, pussy wet and puffy from earlier.
You waste no time in going back to licking her cunt, wrapping your arms around her thighs while she stands perfectly still. While all her mind wants to do is move her hands to your hair but instead, she decides to pull at her nipples along with let out the prettiest moans.
“ M gonna cum Daddy,” she announces,” can I cum please-“
“ Be a good little kitten and cum for daddy,” you order before she lets out what you consider one the most prettiest moans. All these years that you’ve been apart made you realize how much you needed her like this again. Natasha on the other hand is in heaven, splayed out in your hotel room after one of the best orgasms that she’s had in years and she never wants this moment to end.
“ My pretty Kitten ready to go on?” You ask the redhead while you get off the bed to search for the one toy in your luggage to use on the woman laying in bed.
The next morning
After the events of last night, there wasn’t a doubt in your mind that she’d even stay in the hotel room with you, expecting her to just leave like nothing ever happened. What you didn’t expect to see in the morning is the redhead sound asleep next to you looking beautiful as always.
“ Natashaaaa,” you whisper to the redhead as you shake her awake, trying not to piss her off.
“ It’s too early to be upppppppp,” she groans and shoves her head under the pillow. You giggle at the woman’s antics before quickly getting up to get her something to eat from the room mini-fridge. The other woman in bed on the other hand is silent as she observes you in the room.
“ I have some snacks that I bought before the show yesterday but if you want a breakfast I can order,” you tell her and get no reaction from her as she tries to think of what to say next. You hand her a water bottle, a muffin, and a banana before going back for snacks for yourself. Both of you sit in complete silence as you wonder what to say to each other, after a couple of years of bickering with each other in the ring.
“ You know that I don’t hate you right ?” Natasha asks and you nod.
“ I assumed that when you accidentally slapped me and left,” you pause,” I never hated you even after you left to come here, Tasha. I was hurt but also happy that my favorite person got the opportunity of a lifetime.”
“ Y/n”, she pleads to you.
“ Happy that she got that amazing opportunity out of the bat meanwhile it took me a year for Danvers to even notice me, work my ass off to prove myself to her and everyone at NXT then do the same thing when I got drafted at Raw only for the same woman to act like I wasn’t even there Natasha”.
“ Fuck,” she says beginning to tear up a bit,” I’m so sorry y/n”.
All the both of you can do is cry together, Natasha wasting no time in holding you in her arms after years of not having you at her side for all the hard moments that she had to go through here alone when she wanted you there at her side. In that moment she knows that she can’t let you out of her life again.
“ I was so scared when I first got here,” Natasha starts off,” All I wanted was you here to help me at my hardest, when I injured my leg my first year, going against Rhea and so many more. I understand if you want me out of your life y/n, you deserve someone who isn’t like me and just ghosted them like a dumbass”.
“ Natasha,” you say,” I don’t want you out of my life, I want us to be back to the way it was”.
“ Even after the stuff I put you through y/n??”.
“ Yes because I know you like the back of my hand and I want us to be better than ever,” you explain. Natasha takes a minute to compose herself before she moves closer to you and leaves a kiss on your cheek. You use the opportunity to kiss her on the lips, years of no contact at all with the redhead in front of you and all you want to do in said moment is to show her all the love and affection she’s missed from you.
Both of you spend the rest of the day together in bed, basking in each other’s warmth and company, going over everything that’s occurred in each of your lives since being apart.
Natasha could not be happier that she got you back and she doesn’t want to let you go again.

Bucky Barnes x Reader
“They’re just scams, all of them,” Bucky grumbled, dragging his feet as you tugged him in the direction of the county fair midway. A wide alley of garishly colored and brightly lit stalls competed for the attention of passers-by, with hawkers yelling out invitations to play amid the clamor of electronic bells and blaring buzzers.
You pointed at a toddler rolling by in a parent-drawn Radio Flyer, jubilantly hugging an oversized Spiderman plush toy. “If people are still somehow able to win, then they can’t entirely be scams.” You linked your arm with his and snuggled up close, which softened his resistance to being led through the noisy crowd. “They’re just made to be, um, challenging!” He snorted at your assessment, and your retort of jabbing an elbow into his ribs went barely noticed.
“Oooh! I want to try this one!” You broke away abruptly to dash toward a quieter, less ostentatiously decorated booth, where aluminum milk bottles were stacked up on a line of pedestals. The attendant, a ruddy-faced, heavyset fellow, beamed at your arrival.
“Three throws for ten credits,” he announced, holding up a pair of softballs.
“Huh?” Bucky froze with his hand in the back pocket of his jeans, in the middle of digging out his wallet for cash payment.
“No worries, I’ve got it.” You held out the neon green band around your wrist, and the attendant promptly scanned the barcode. Grasping the first ball, you turned to smile at Bucky, only to find him sporting that brooding scowl he promised he was still learning to keep out of your dates.
“Ten bucks for three chances, you gotta be joking,” he muttered, having figured out what the pre-loaded credits you discreetly purchased cost.
“It’s fine, really. For the priceless memories, remember?” You hoped this wouldn’t trigger another overdrawn tirade about how it was criminal to charge so much for family-friendly entertainment, and how county fair admission cost next to nothing back in his day. (“Back in 1939?” you gently reminded him of his last fair experience.)
He stared at you, at the little pout puppy-dog-eyes combo you put up for his benefit, and finally cracked a smile. “Right. Show off that arm, then.”
You stepped up to the line marker and drew back your arm for the first throw. Thunk. Too low. You struck the platform base solidly, but noticed that the little pyramid of bottles didn't even wiggle.
In your second throw, the ball caught the top bottle and knocked it off the stack. You threw up your hands with a triumphant hoot, but the attendant was quick to remind you that you needed to knock over all three bottles for the big win.
Feeling a little more pressure (and admittedly pessimistic), you reached for the last ball. Bucky's gloved hand snatched it up first.
“May I?”
You couldn't even remember if you nodded or said anything to indicate consent. You would only remember the sharp gleam in his eyes and the hard line of his clenched jaw.
The rocket force of Bucky's throw blew all three bottles clear off the pedestal and smacked into the back of the booth with a crack, leaving a souvenir on the wooden paneling.
You walked off still mildly dazed with a giant Bluey stuffie clutched to your chest.
“I’m sorry,” Bucky finally blurted out. “I should have let you take the last shot, I know you like doing these things for yourself. But it was torture watching that guy take you for a ride. I had to either throw the ball or slap that smirk off his face.”
He sighed and rubbed a hand over his hair and looked at you again, his excuses trailing off. “Aw hell, let’s face it. In the end I really just wanted to win you that ridiculously large teddy bear.”
“It’s a dog, actually. An Australian Cattle Dog.”
“It would need its own plane ticket.” He sighed. “Whatever. Again, I'm sorry.”
“Quit apologizing.” You reached out to give his hand a squeeze. “Did you have fun doing it?”
Bucky shrugged. “Gotta admit, it was a lot more satisfying than my last time at a fair.” Drawing you slowly into his arms, he gave a low chuckle. “In 1939.”
“Sounds like a great new memory.” You smiled and slid a hand around the back of his neck. “Mission accomplished, Sergeant,” you murmured before pressing your lips to his, in a kiss that he returned with twice the enthusiasm.
“Let me win you every damn prize in this carnival,” he said, still slightly breathless after he broke off, that spine-tingling gleam reinvigorated in his piercing eyes. “Turn these fixed games around and con the swindlers right back.”
You bit your lip, the eager tone in his voice giving you pause. Would it be ethical to unleash a hungry White Wolf with a tireless metal arm on these game hawkers?
“I do have that toy drive at work coming up in a few months.”
“My girl.” Bucky grinned and looped an arm around your waist to drop a sloppy kiss on your temple that made you squeal. “Point me to the next sucker.”
Steve: You remember that time we had to ride back from Rockaway Beach in the back of that freezer truck? Bucky: Was that the time you used our train money to buy hotdogs? Steve: You blew three bucks trying to win that stuffed bear for a redhead. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

CHAPTER SIX
Irene's first time inside winter wasn't as harrowing as she assumed. Her body floated against the still-warm water, she was in REM. Her eyes moved back and forth in a perfect symphony as she surfed through the waves of Bucky's mind, desperate to find him.
"Okay, Irene.' She heard Aamani's voice, though it wasn't clear. "Go find Sergeant Barnes's subconscious self, and try to administer January." She instructed.
"Right." Irene looked around at her surroundings. His mind had shifted, it was different this time.
A row of tumbled burgundy brick apartments lined up perfectly against a narrow cement street had replaced the dark aquatic adventure she assumed she'd return to. The honking of taxi's told her she was in Brooklyn, along with Bucky's files that she had stolen and studied the previous night.
The clicking of pink wedge heels and the wind that caught underneath girls button downed dresses. The language of 'doll' and 'dame'. She had to be submerged into the heart of 1940's New York.
"I think I'm in,' Irene began but was shortly interrupted.
"New York." Aadon injected. "There aren't many buildings with doors."
"I see one at the end of this block, should I try it?" Irene asked, watching the buildings flashing lights dance.
"Go for it." Aadon encouraged Irene.
"What the hell!" Aamani screamed.
"What!" Irene stopped, clutching at her pounding heart.
"Your outfit! Look at your fucking outfit, Irene!" Aamani continued to scream.
Irene looked down at her feet that were once barren, now they dawned white wedged heels, rounded at the tip. Her lashes battered intensely as she twirled towards an abandoned glass display window, wind catching under something she couldn't quite place.
"Oh.' Irene ran her hands along her ruby red polyester sleeves. "Oh!" She gasped.
Irene now sported a ruby red knee length dress. It's sweet heart neckline and belt formed her assets beautifully. Her hair was no longer in its natural state, but instead pined back in buoyant voluminous curls. It all felt so real, like reality had shifted around her.
"I think you're changing to fit with the setting of his mind." Aamani spoke. "So you'll blend in."
"Then why didn't I have a swimsuit last time?" Irene whispered while nodding at the entertainment girls as she walked inside the building.
"That I do not know. But since this is the only building with a door, he must be in there." Aamani said, watching the monitors intently.
Irene smiled at the man with a mustache in front of her, he shoved a black and white flyer into her hand. The with the words "Harry's House' in bold black letters.
"He would be in Harry's House?" Irene asked, watching the flyer disappear in her grasp. "It wasn't real anyways." She sighed to herself.
"Apparently it's a place him and Captain Rogers use to frequent.' Aadon said, sipping on a can of pop.
"Is he still sleeping?" Irene asked.
Aadon turned around, his desk chair creaking, a devilish grin spreading on his face. "Like a baby."
"Okay, well good,' Irene clutched her fictitious purse. "Because I have eyes."
"Holy shit." Aamani leaned into the monitor, stealing a sip of Aadon's pop. "He looks, kind of hot."
"Happiness looks good on the best of us, Aamani." Irene sighed, lifting the hem of her skirt up as she pushed through the crowd. "How do I approach him?"
"How did you approach him last time?" Aadon asked, snatching his drink back from his older sister.
"Slowly."
"Bingo."
Irene swallowed hard, ambling towards him. His white smile was on display as he laughed aloud with a few stunning woman hugged into either side of him. He had a bottle of beer tilted onto his lips, sipping slow. And before she knew it, she was in front of him. Staring in complete suspended animation.
Bucky's eyes titled from the tip of his beer, to Irene. She could have sworn she heard a sigh escape from his lips. He slammed the bottle down, the bottom of it lead a crackling trail up to the the neck of the beer. Irene's eyes went wide, as she watched him wipe his lips off with the sleeve of his tan uniform, tipping his hat onto his head.
"And this,' his voice seemed lighter than last time. "Is my best friends Steve's eavesdropping friend, Irene. Who just can't let it go." He laughed, a hint of anger underneath his tone.
"Sergeant Barnes's, maybe we should go somewhere private." Irene whispered, suddenly becoming self conscious with all eyes on her.
"Or maybe.' Bucky pushed himself off from the bar top. The girls who once surrounded him disappearing into thin air. "You should just leave."
"Why?' Irene backed up as he slowly sauntered towards her. "I'm here to help you." She held her hand out.
"Because I said so." Bucky's voice was deep and intimidating.
"Look." Irene pulled out the canister of purple gas, known as January. "This will help you."
"Irene don't show him that!" Aadon shouted into his microphone.
Bucky laughed, clutching his side. "Do you really think it'll be that easy! Do you know what they've done to me!" He shouted, tossing a chair to the side. Irene gasped watching it break as it collided with the wall. "You need to leave."
"Irene, put it away, we will try again another time." Aamani whispered.
"No!" Irene shouted, not sure who she was speaking to in this moment.
"Fine.' Bucky said, his flesh arm morphing into metal, the red star on his shoulder was bolder than anything she'd ever seen. "I'll just make you."
"Bucky, please stop!" She yelled, turning on her heels and running from him.
On the outside, Irene's body began to convulse. She was no longer in control as she had once thought, the water slouching around her and spilling onto the floor. Aadon and Aamani hopped out of their chairs, rushing to her side.
"Bucky!" Irene rasped, it seemed his favorite way to hurt her was with his hand around her neck.
"Never come back here, it's too dangerous." His eyes misted over with a combination of anger and pain.
Then after he spoke, Bucky slammed Irene's body through the floorboards of Harry's House. Sending her tumbling into a black abyss. Irene screamed as she fell down further and further.
Her body finally stopped, landing in something squishy and sticky. Her dress had disappeared and she was back to wearing her white body suit.
"What the hell! No, not again!" She screamed, lifting her arm that was covered in slime. "Aamani, Aadon!" She gagged at the revolting smell which burned her nostrils.
"They're not here.' A malevolent voice teased Irene as it laughed.
"Who are you?" Irene wept, struggling against the binds she was in. They were stuck onto her skin like suction cups, to her dismay they were tentacles.
"Who I am isn't a matter of your concern, Irene Watson." the voice jabbered on, it's tentacles grabbing Irene by her waist and lifting her up.
"The matter is, why do you feel you can save the winter solider? My creation!" The voice was so close to her she could feel the heat of its breath against the nape of her neck.
Irene squirmed within its grasp. Wheezing for air as it only squeezed her tighter, slithering up to her neck. She clinched her eyes close, rasping out one last remark.
"Because—it's the right thing,' she coughed, scratching at the tentacle wrapped on her neck. "To do!" She hollered, feeling herself being pulled far away from the voice.
In the lab, Irene laid on then floor convulsing like a fish out of water. Her nose bleeding profusely, dripping down her chin. Frantically, Aadon picked up Irene's body placing her onto a lab table trying to steady her body.
"Her vitals are off the chart!" Aamani shouted, running with a syringe in her hand.
"I didn't think it would be like this for her!" Aadon grunted, fighting against Irene's shaking body.
"It's her telepathy, she's very strong.' Aamani explained. "Hold her steady!"
"I'm trying!" Aadon began to sweat, retraining her body as Irene began to cry out.
Aamani climbed on top on the lab table, straddling Irene and hold her legs steady between her thighs. She held the syringe above her head and plunged in into Irene's chest.
Instantly, Irene stopped shaking and her brown eyes shot open as she drew in a series of excruciating breaths. She began to cough up blood and shoved Aamani off her. Irene screamed as she collapsed onto the cold lab floor, snatching the wires off of herself.
Irene limped and pushed passed Aadon and Aamani who shouted after her. Feeling a surge of anger while crying uncontrollably, Irene released a swoosh of purple energy from her fingertips, pushing it against Bucky's chest.
"Wake up!" She shouted, watching him slowly stir awake. But it wasn't fast enough for her, so she did it again. Hitting Bucky with another swoosh of energy, causing him to groan as sweat dripped down his forehead.
"Do you really think it's funny!' Irene cried out, wincing at the pain she felt in her side.
"Do I think what's funny?" He grumbled, barely facing her.
"Trying to kill me!' Irene shouted. "I'm only trying to help you!"
"I told you to stay out of my head, you're psychotic!" He shouted back, trying to move within his restraints.
Irene scoffed, sweat dribbling down her body as her side pulsed in pain. "I'm psy—psychotic!" Irene's breath stirred. "You—you're,' she swallowed hard, stumbling over her words along with her feet.
Irene pressed her fingers into her temples and yelped in pain as she crashed to the floor on her knees. Blood began to pour from the corners of her eyes as she screamed out in uncontrollably pain.
"Irene!" Aamani shouted.
Irene felt her head crash onto the floor, the last thing her bloody eyes saw were those boots. If this was how she was meant to die at least it would be a noble end. Helping a man who couldn't see the worth in being rescued. That ought to count for something in the afterlife.

Bingo
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader Word Count: 2.0k T/W: pure, stupid, fluff A/N: you meet Bucky at a Bingo night ft. Yori ❤︎
it’s a little dorky, but I thought it was cute!
Setting the tables with the rectangle cards, you smiled, straightening them out. Despite what your friends thought, you actually enjoyed volunteering with the local senior Bingo games on the weekends when you could. Feeling like they were often better company and far more entertaining than going to a club. It wasn’t a very big meeting hall, but that’s what made it feel so cozy to you. Hugging yourself when you finished the tables, you stroked the outside of your arms, feeling the softness of the cardigan you wore over your tank top. Sighing happily, you made your way to the announcing host, passing a few comments, as you waited for people to find their way in.
“Hey! Hey, look!” You heard a familiar voice; turning you found Yori and his usual group making their way to their table, with one exception. Smiling you made your way to him, arms still crossed, “no, I want you to meet her,” you heard him say to his friend, making you smile.
“Hey, Yori,” you said, coming to hug him, “brought more friends?”
“I- I’m Bucky,” he reached his hand to shake yours, to which you responded, taking his hand in yours.
“Barnes,” Yori added, reaching to slap a name tag on Bucky's chest.
Bucky took a deep breath, keeping his patience, as he looked down to the tag where Yori had written ‘single’ in parentheses, “yep. . .that’s me.”
“This- this is the one I told you about,” Yori nudged you on the elbow pointing to Bucky, only making him more nervous as he immediately looked down to Yori with a questioning look.
“Ohh,” you nodded slowly, squinting your eyes at Bucky who met your gaze again, “you mean the anti-social grumpy one who’s scared to come because he’ll lose? That one?”
“Yes! That one,” Yori bobbed on his heels happily with a smile.
“What -I’m not-”
“Well,” you tilted your head, “I hope you have a good time and perhaps win something,” Bucky smiled, “but I think you’re going to need your hand back for that.”
Jaw dropping, he looked down to find your hand still in his, “right,” he laughed nervously, letting go, “sorry, of course.”
You laughed quietly, biting in your lip watching him look anywhere but to you, mainly keeping his head down.
“Yori, you need anything you know where I am,” you softly placed a hand to his shoulder, “Bucky,” he looked up with a half forced smile, but you waited a moment, “it was nice to meet you, I’m glad you came.”
As you turned to walk away you could hear Yori whisper, “I think she liked you.”
Followed by a quick change of subject from his friend, “I think you should find our table.”
And lastly, “I know where our table is, and if you can keep your eyes off her, you’d see it too.”
With a giggle to yourself, you walked up to the foldable table that had been set up for you to sit at as usual. You were alone, but you were in charge of any assistance and you kept the first, second, and third prizes hidden. It was harder than one thought to keep curious seniors from nosing around for them.
While the night was long and you stayed quiet, you were very grateful to have a little more entertainment tonight. It seemed Yori and his friends got their own entertainment out of teasing and poking fun at Bucky, who was a true sport through it all.
“Absolutely not,” you heard Bucky say. Looking up you saw him holding his card to his chest, with Yori trying to convince him to let him take a peek at his numbers, “are those the rules of Bingo?” Bucky shook his head, but another one of Yori’s friends tried to peek from his opposite side, “Oh,” Bucky dropped his jaw, leaning even farther back in his chair to keep the card hidden against him, “a double front attack? Really guys?”
Unable to hide your smile, you kept an eye on the table, specifically Bucky. Who after giving the group a few amusements, looked over to you. Blinking softly, happy that he noticed you, you lifted your hand to wave subtly. With another half smile, that was genuine this time, he raised his hand to wave, but forgot just how far back he was leaning in his chair. Soon, you watched him vanish from sight and he found himself flat against the floor, with a wince.
“That’s whatcha get, you punk,” Yori told him through a laugh and an assertive nod.
It wasn’t long before there was a soft murmur of quiet laughs spreading throughout the hall, as Bucky reset his chair and sat properly in it this time. He pressed his lips together tightly and avoided everyone’s eye line, but yours. Hand over your mouth, you looked mildly worried, raising your half furrowed eyebrows at him, he could tell you were asking if he was okay. To that he carefully nodded, before turning to someone else who was addressing him at the table.
The half way break came up shortly after, and you had to help a few people. When you looked back up from your table you saw Bucky, hands in his pockets and bouncing on his heels about three people away down the small line. Leaning your head to the side to see him, it took him a moment, but when he saw you, he gave a quick smile, before being spoken to by the elderly lady in front of him.
“You’re a very handsome young man, so nice of you to come play,” she said, to which he gave a shy thank you, as she asked you for a new marker, “he’s a very handsome young man, you know,” she whispered loudly, before glancing back at him, “and she’s single you know.”
Ducking your head, you gave a monotone, “thank you, Mrs. Kasey,” putting your hands over your face, hiding the embarrassment, you composed yourself and straightened up, “hey, what can I help with?”
“Word is you got the prizes?” Bucky perked an eyebrow and gave the most obvious wink.
Half smiling, half jaw dropping, you looked around his hip to see Yori, who was keeping a curiously careful eye on his friend, shaking your head you looked up to Bucky, “so. . .they sent you? I don’t break that easily.” You crossed your arms over your chest, playfully, keeping eye contact.
“Well,” he shrugged, “to be honest I’d like to know what we’re playing for too, I mean what’s our motivation here? I don’t know,” you covered your mouth, hiding the smile accompanying your soft giggles, “Why are you laughing? This is serious. What is the purpose of playing Bingo if you don’t know the prizes?”
With a real laugh at how hard he was trying to convince you, “okay, alright,” you reached under the table bringing up the prize in your hand, elbow against the table as you held it up, he looked down.
“A jar of jelly beans,” Bucky nodded, bobbing his head back and forth before a confident, “okay, seems fair, what about second place?”
You held up a jar in the other hand.
Bucky looked between you and it, “that’s- that’s just a smaller jar of jelly beans,” he lifted his shoulders as if asking ‘why?’
“These people really like their jelly beans,” you admitted, “I figure you can guess what third place is.”
“Seriously?” he dropped his shoulders, disappointed.
“Was there something you were hoping to get instead, Mr. Barnes?” You set the jars down, resting your chin on top of your laced hands as you looked up through your eyelashes at him.
He swallowed, deciding if he wanted to say anything, he winced as if he was going to regret what he was going to say- luckily for him the announcer called everyone back to the tables. He sighed, and you leaned back in your seat as you parted ways again. The evening remained entertaining with Yori occasionally reminding everyone at the table that if Bucky wins he’d share the prize.
Towards the end of the event, Bucky was the only one at the table still in the final rounds, meaning the entire table squeezed around him, glancing at his card and intensely listening. When the last number was being called, they all had a hand on Bucky, clinging to him like it was the olympics and he was their champion.
“Seventeen” was announced and you noticed a sudden shift in Bucky’s demeanor, even though everyone around him was ecstatic, he looked like his mind was suddenly somewhere else, until he shook his head like shaking off a bad memory and he lifted his card. He didn’t have to say it, his group was already exclaiming Bingo enough for him. He came up casually with the other two, and you handed each of them a jar of jelly beans.
Bucky gave a ‘thank you,’ and took his back, but it was gone before he could even offer it to anyone.
“What’s the joke?” Yori held out the jar back to Bucky swiftly, “I can’t open it.”
Smiling, Bucky popped open the jar in no time and immediately it was out of his hands again.
“Congratulations,” you said behind him, making him turn around, he saw you had your jacket in your arms and purse over your shoulder, “I hope I’ll see you next month?” “Next month?” He tilted his head, “I thought it was weekly?”
“Volunteer rotations shift,” you explained, gesturing your hand in a circle, “I won’t be back until next month since we’ve got new volunteers.”
“Oh,” he nodded and there was silence.
“Anyway, I hope I’ll see you around,” you waved to him and to Yori as you left, pushing in the door’s brace open.
As it shut, Bucky furrowed his eyebrows, with a sigh, still watching the door.
“Go,” Yori said next to him and waved him away, “you’ll regret it if you don’t.”
Bucky took a moment to consider it, “take the bus okay? I don’t want you guys-”
“Yes, yes, we will,” Yori said, already turning back to his friends.
Smiling towards them, he started a jog for the door, exiting, he looked to find you. Already on the sidewalk, he met up with you. Obviously causing you to stop in your tracks and wait when you heard him.
“Hey, um-” he looked around, “can I walk you home?”
“Sure,” you nodded, smiling.
There wasn’t a terrible amount of conversation, but you liked his company and didn’t want him to feel like he had to talk.
“I think it’s really sweet what you’re doing, what you did tonight” you said, looking straight ahead, even though you knew he was looking at you, “there hasn’t been that much laughter in a very long time,” you exhaled sadly, “most of them spent five years alone, or missing out on seeing their grandkids grow up. I was so happy to see their smiles.”
“And what about you?”
You finally turned to him, “I was here, alone” looking down, you laughed, “then again I was alone before, so. . .” you bit in your lower lip, wincing “that sounded so pathetic.”
This time he laughed with you, “no,” he shook his head, “I know how alone feels.”
Stopping on the sidewalk, you exchanged glances, “well, this is me,” you pointed up to your apartment building.
“Right, okay,” he breathed nervously.
“Thanks for walking me home,” you said, walking towards the steps.
“Yeah,” he ran a hand through his hair, “hey, do you- would you want to get dinner?”
“Finally,” you giggled, before turning back to him, “it took you four blocks to ask!” He gave a shocked expression, only making you smile bigger, “I’m free Sunday, meet you right here at six?”
“Okay,” he said happily, “it’s a date then.”
“Perfect,” you squeezed your arms, hugging yourself.
He swallowed harshly, before taking a step closer and leaning in to kiss you on the cheek, sweetly. When he pulled back, he looked slightly nervous, as if that was the wrong thing to do.
“You missed,” you batted your eyelashes, with a soft smile.
Bucky took a second, unsure if you were serious, either way he took his chances and met your lips with his. Somehow this one took you by more surprise, causing you to move your hands against his chest, holding on to his jacket, until he pulled back.
“Bingo,” you whispered.

motive | high school!bucky
pairing: high school!bucky barnes x cheerleader!reader
warnings: fluff
a/n: steve is tiny pre-serum steve here. hope you enjoy xx
Tell me why I get this feeling that you really wanna turn me on. Tell me why I get this feeling that you really wanna make me yours. 'Cause I see you tryin', subliminally tryin' to see if I'm gon' be the one to sing along. I admit it's exciting, parts of me kinda like it but before I lead you on baby, tell me, what's your motive?
There she was again, same time, Monday to Friday, wearing that red cheerleading outfit and holding her pompoms against her hips. There she was, the only woman in the world who had enough power to have him twirled around her little polished finger. She wasn’t particularly popular, actually, he was almost entirely sure she was doing cheerleading mostly because she loved it and wanted it on her extra-curriculars for university. To say he had a crush was an extreme understatement, he had had an attraction for the cheerleader since he became a quarterback and ever since she had refused to give him a single chance. He’d tried flowers, chocolates, all the lovey dovey cliche stuff and she always said no.
- God, he’s stunning. - Lottie fawned as she watched Bucky play. - If you don’t want him, can I have him?
- Keep him. - Y/N fixed her ponytail, taking a quick glance at the quarterback. She wasn’t wrong, he was stunning, an authentic marble statue come to life; yet that didn’t take away the fact he was a cocky jock.
- I just might. - she twirled her hair around her finger, biting her lip as the quarterback lifted his shirt to wipe the sweat off his forehead before turning his step towards them. Great, another date question or study request, whatever it was he could pull out of a hat which could equal to time between the two of them. She prepared to tell him off, instead he passed right by her, making his way to Lottie.
- Hey Lottie, how are you?
- I’m good, Bucky. Did you see our routine? Y/N’s a bit wobbly but I think it’s going great, don’t you think?
- It’s good, it’s good uhm ... do you wanna come to the party tonight? At mine’s? I’ll pick you up.
- I’d love that. - she twirled her hair once more.
Y/N furrowed her brows at the situation unfolding just close to her. Ever since she remember, heck ever since she had become a freshman, Bucky had been trying to go out with her. He wasn’t aggressive, or even rude, in all honesty he was always polite about it. Yet, that wasn’t the point. Bucky normally asked her to go places no matter when or where ever since they met and now he’d asked someone else. Sure, she had told him no enough times to break someone’s will and it wasn’t like she wanted to date him. She knew his type, he was a jock athlete, not caring for his studies and merely wishing to get into a degree by piggy backing off a sports scholarship that should go for someone else. If she were to say yes to him, she would just be part of the package, just the cheerleader girlfriend. He didn’t really want to be with her, he wanted to be with the cheerleader, not Y/N.
He smiled at Lottie, saying something Y/N really did not pay attention to before leaving to return to his practice. She looked him straight into the eye, giving him a sarcastic smile before throwing her pompoms to the side. She had better places to be than practicing a routine only to be called wobbly. She wasn’t wobbly.
Even the sound of the loud halls couldn’t shake her out of her head. Did Bucky like Lottie? Of course not, her mind would yell, Lottie is just a cheerleader that said yes, that would’ve been you if you’d say yes. Nevertheless, she couldn’t help but feel confused about it. Sure, Bucky had entertained his fair share of girls but he’d never done it in front of her. She sighed as she opened her locker, throwing her pompoms and switching them for the books she had for her next class.
- Hey Steve. - she smiled at the blonde coming out of art class, blue and yellow paint all over his forehead. - You got paint on your forehead.
- Is it bad?
- Not as bad as the other times. - she smiled. Steve was the son of her mother’s best friend and while the two hadn’t grown up as close as he and Bucky had, she was still found of Steve. - Are you going to Bucky’s party tonight?
- No. - he pointed at her. - No, no, no, no. I don’t know what you want to do but it’s not good and I am not gonna put myself between you and Bucky. No, I’m tired.
- He’s going with Lottie and I wanna go.
- Let him go with Lottie then. You’ve been telling him no since you were 16, Y/N.
- I didn’t say I wanted to go with him, Steve. I said I wanted to go. - she swang her backpack over her shoulder. - I need someone to take me or it’ll be weird. Can you take me?
- This is a terrible idea.
- You owe me. I literally talked about how great you are to Peggy Carter for 4 months. You owe me.
- You don’t even like parties. You have never gone to a single one, why do you wanna go now? - he looked around, hoping Bucky wouldn’t be around to witness this. Luckily, he wasn’t.
- High school memories.
[...]
She pulled at her white short dress as Steve parked in front of Bucky’s house. She’d never expect it to look like that; granted, she’d never even seen it yet she didn’t expect the school’s star athlete to live in such a suburban place. It wasn’t modern, it wasn’t a flat, it was just a little white picket fence house with rose bushes in the front. Maybe Steve was right and this was a bad idea. What would she even do the whole evening? Ask Bucky and Lottie why they were a thing now? No. It wasn’t like she knew most people at the party. Sure she knew the girls from cheer but they would be with their boyfriends and she knew Sam but he’d recently started dating Natasha, so she guessed he wouldn’t be company either. Additionally, judging by how Steve kept talking about Peggy, he wasn’t going to be her company either.
She walked out of the car by Steve’s side and past the door that led onto the living room. The suburban dream seemed to be much different past the threshold; here everything was pretty much a copy of any teenage movie party and she already hated it. Great.
- I’m gonna go see if Peggy’s here. - Steve bounced from the ball of his feet.
- Go. - she smiled, patting him in the back. Steve grinned, kissing her cheek before making his way through the crowd, leaving Y/N to look around for something to do.
There was nothing to do but underage drinking and dancing - two things she didn’t want to do. There was also the possibility of her checking what Lottie and Bucky were doing but since they were nowhere to be found, she guessed they were procreating without the procreation part. Instead, she leaned her arms on the big chair, looking around the living room trying to figure out what to do.
Bucky, on the other hand, was sat by the kitchen, watching someone down another red solo cup of cheap beer. There really wasn’t much to do when he had to ensure no one destroyed his house before his parents returned. Last time a party happened his mother came back to half her china broken. Not a good night for him.
- You brought a date, Barnes? - Natasha made her way towards him, stealing some of the fine liquor from behind his back. - I thought you were hopelessly devoted to Torrance Shipman.
- I thought you liked Y/N.
- I love her, specially when she told you no in front of assembly. - she looked up at the air in a dreamy state. - I wish I had recorded it. It was fucking marvellous.
- Thanks, Tash. I appreciate it. - he rolled his eyes.
- She’s here with a date too, you know. - she took a sip from her drink nonchalantly, yet Bucky turned his head towards her like an apex predator.
- She’s here? - he was almost growling. Who was she here with? He hadn’t heard of her seeing anyone or even having a crush on anyone rather than the men in the erotica books she pretended not to read. - Who brought her in?
- Steve did. - she clicked her teeth, throughly enjoying how easy it was to rile him up.
Bucky left in a blurr, ignoring people saying hi to him with only one goal, leaving Natasha to high five herself mentally. God, it was incredibly easy to play with him.
- What did you do? - Sam joined Natasha, watching as Bucky left a trail of people afraid to even look his direction.
- I am wondering if having Y/N and Bucky dating will be as enjoyable as watching her tell him no all the time.
Bucky almost ran a marathon up to where Steve was, grabbing him from the collar of his polo before dragging him into a small cupboard under the stairs. The blonde man, despite being shorter than the quarterback, looked at him unamused, Bucky had history of acting like a wolf every once in a while.
- I’m guessing this is about Y/N. - he spoke out before Bucky could explode.
- Why are you here with Y/N?
- Why are you here with Lottie?
- You told me to ask out someone else.
- And you did to make her jealous, you idiot. I told you not to do that. - he rolled his eyes. - Which by the way, worked. She is jealous. I didn’t ask her out, she pretty much forced me.
- She’s shorter than you.
- She’s terrifying with those pompoms, Buck. Please keep me out of your sexual tension, please.
- She’s jealous? - he smirked. God, that would’ve been a sight, seeing a jealous Y/N when she barely gave him the time of day.
- Yes now can you please let me go back to my girlfriend while you go find yours?
- Which one?
- I really hope she tears your head off.
Y/N had finally found something to do; having water and pretending she understood what was going on. She really didn’t and while everyone was entitled to have fun the way they wished, this was definitely not her thing. The music was too loud and she was tired enough to consider climbing up the stairs, which she did, making her way towards the first room she found. Bucky’s room.
She had to say, it was not what she expected. The night was once again full of surprises. There were no trophies and barely any sports memorabilia except for a spelling bee champion medal on his wall. She couldn’t really picture Bucky doing the spelling bee. In all honesty, all she could see in his bedroom even related to football was a framed photo on his bedside table where he had his eyes closed. She remembered the day that photo was taken; they had won the sophomore championship and she twisted her ankle so the team held her up for the photo.
- Y/N darling, if you wanted to come to my bedroom, you could’ve just asked.
- James. - she forced a smile. - Nice to see you climbed out of Lottie. Had fun?
- Like your routine, your ideas are wobbly.
- My routine is not wobbly. - she rolled her eyes. - What do you want, Barnes?
- Is your response to being jealous going out with my best friend?
- Don’t flatter yourself, I knew Steve before you did.
- If you’re so upset, why won’t you go out with me? - he stood in front of her, locking her between him and a wall. - Is it because you can’t have me now?
- James, you want to go out with me because I’m a cheerleader and it looks good on the package. That’s why you’ve only gone out with cheerleaders.
- How about Christie? She wasn’t a cheerleader, you’re being unfair.
- She was the lead on the spring musical. It was Bring it On. She’s an honorary cheerleader.
- I really do love our bicker, Y/N. I’m gonna miss it when you go to Harvard.
- How ... how do you know I’m going? - she looked at him through her lashes, before avoiding his gaze.
- Because, I am going.
- You’re not going to Harvard. Their sports scholarship isn’t as good as other schools, you’d never get recruited.
- I’m doing History, Y/N darling. Obviously, there’s always the perk of seeing you pretending you’re not reading erotica books.
- I’m not.
- Sure. - he smirked. - Go out with me.
- No.
- You’re upset about Lottie. I’ll apologise and you’ll be my only girl again. You’ve always been my only girl.
- The only girl you haven’t slept with.
- You’re mean. - he laughed, moving to grab the photo she had just been looking out. - You know, the day this photo was taken I had my first beer and cried to my mum the only girl I liked didn’t like me.
- You’re just giving me ammunition now, Barnes.
- Thing is, I like you and since you’ll be stuck in the same school as me after we graduate. How about you get a high school boyfriend who won’t dump you after graduation?
- If you’re gonna ask me out, ask me out like a man, please.
- Alright. Y/N, for the 35th time this month alone, will you go out with me? We’ll go to that library restaurant, you can have whatever you want, and you can buy any erotic book you chose. I pay.
- 5 books and we go to the movies after. I pay the tickets.
- 10 books, you pay for the dress I’ll have wet dreams about.
- I would’ve settled for a book.
- I would’ve settled for 20 books, darling. So?
- Pick me up next Friday, 8 o’clock.
- Is that a yes?
- Yes, Barnes. I’ll go out with you.

When Enough is Enough pt. II
Imagine being let down one too many times by your best friend, only to end up making some new ones in the process.
Words: 8.5K Author’s Note: Okay so some of you asked to only be added to part 2 of this while others asked to be added everything Bucky.. and a few others weren’t exactly clear. So if you want to be tagged in any future Bucky related imagines please let me know so I can get your blog name written down on my list.
Tags: @aya-fay @70s-chic @sipsteacasually @kaitlyn2907 @scarlettwitch99 @thingsforimagination @mimilh @felicityofbakerstreet @eternalharry @eliwinchester99 @intothesoul @wintershadowkat @b1sexualtonystark @meredeph @miszswan
The Sunday before you are to return to work, you sleep in until nine in the morning. Your thoughts are immediately on Bucky's impending arrival and you couldn't help the butterflies that took flight in your stomach. He's a friend, just as all the others are, but you couldn't help but notice just how attractive this new friend of yours is. But not only does his attractiveness draw you in, his easy-going teasing and protectiveness does too. However, Bucky Barnes is still a man trying to find his footing in this world after all that's been done to him and finally getting his name cleared, and if he finds comfort with you then you're going to try your best and be the friend he needs.
So since you're not dressing to impress, you dress in your favorite lazy outfit after your shower- leggings, sports bra, a faded sleeveless band tee with the arm holes having been cut down to around your ribs, and a pair of socks. Damp hair gets gathered up into a messy bun and you walk around your apartment to pick up some things you had unknowingly left out.
You've skipped breakfast, so when there's a knock on your door and you open up to find Bucky standing there, you groan in relief. He raises both hands with paper bags hanging from each. "I come bearing sushi. Wanda let it slip how much you love it."
"Yesss." You step back, quickly taking in his own comfort outfit of sweatpants and a plain black t-shirt under an opened jacket. "Did you bring plenty of wasabi? And you can just kick off your shoes anywhere."
"Of course." He hands you the bags so he can kick off his shoes and strip out of his jacket before hanging it up. You don't know why, but seeing him in a short sleeve shirt makes you happy, knowing full well he was weird about his metal arm being out in the open. "And plenty of dipping sauce as well. Wanda was more than happy to give me advice."
"Wanda, huh?" You chuckle, leading the way to your kitchen. "You actually told her where'd you be?"
"Apparently I looked very pensive this morning. She asked and I figured she was a better confidant than Steve or Sam who would have made a big deal about us hanging out."
"True." Setting the bags down, you let him empty them while you head to the fridge. "Beer?"
"Yeah."
Grabbing him a beer and yourself a can of Cola, you return to the table and your eyes widen at the sight of all the sushi. "Damn, Barnes. That's a lot of sushi."
"Don't act like you won't eat half of it."
You laugh as you take a seat, handing him his beer and pulling a few trays to your side of the table. You take a container of wasabi and dipping sauce for yourself, and grab a pair of chopsticks to start digging in.
You moan in delight at your first taste, happily shimmying in your seat before taking another. Eventually, you ask, "So what are you going to do when I'm back at work and I can't keep you entertained by getting shitfaced?"
Bucky grins around his mouthful of food before chasing it down with a swig of his beer. "We actually got a mission comin' up so I'll be leavin' around mid-week."
"Well that sucks." You sigh. "Now who am I going to send random pictures to when I have downtime at work?"
He grins. "You can still send them to me. I just won't get back to you until after the mission's complete."
"Yeah, yeah."
The two of you continue to eat- Bucky dodging Steve's texts about where he is and when he's coming back, and you sending the middle finger emoji over and over to Wanda who keeps wondering how your date is going. Then once most of the sushi is gone and Bucky puts what little is left into the fridge, the two of you head to the living room. You immediately flop onto the couch as Bucky takes the plush recliner, only for you to hear him moving the chair into its reclined position seconds later.
"Oh. I definitely need to get one of these."
You laugh as he snuggles down and you pick up the remote to bring up your streaming services. "Anything you've been meaning to watch?"
"Not really. Just show me your favorites."
You start off with some humor by playing the Goonies. It's a movie that no matter how many times you've seen it, it always seems to make you laugh. And it seems Bucky is not immune either when they make Chunk to the truffle shuffle. Titanic plays afterwards, but only after making sure Bucky found it somewhat interesting after reading the movie summary to him. He is interested from beginning to end and doesn't even laugh at you when you shed a few tears for the old married couple who opt to stay in their bed as the room floods.
When a break is needed, you head off towards the bathroom as Bucky finishes off the leftover sushi. Both of you check your phones and read each other the missed text messages from Steve and his worrying behavior.
"Wanna tell Steve to fuck off via video message?" Bucky takes a moment to think on it before he grins and nods. "Excellent. Sit in the recliner. I'm gonna crawl up all in your business. That okay?"
"Yeah."
As Bucky gets comfortable in the recliner, you sit on the armrest before sliding down sideways onto his lap. You bring up the camera app on your phone and switch it to video, sliding your right arm behind Bucky's neck while holding your left arm out to capture the two of you on the screen. "Ready?"
"Sure, doll."
You chuckle quietly and then smirk mischievously as Bucky relaxes his expression into his best resting bitch face. After you hit record, you say, "Hey Rogers, stop being a little bitch and sending us text after text. I'm tryin' to fuck your best friend here." Bucky's expression cracks as he barks out a laugh and you turn to face him while grinning. You share a laugh with him before facing the camera once more. "Only joking, but seriously stop buggin' us. I promise to send him back in one piece."
As you prepare to send the text to Steve, Bucky says, "You're terrible."
"Whatever. Admit it, you adore me."
"Occasionally."
You huff another laugh as the video message finally sends. You and Bucky both watch as the delivered status turns to read, and then those three little dots appear as Steve starts typing his reply.
"Tell Bucky to wrap it before he taps it." You burst out laughing at Steve's text, Bucky's rumbling laughter only fueling yours even more. "God I hate your best friend sometimes." And before you climb off Bucky's lap, because honestly you were getting a little too comfortable, you send Steve a few middle finger emojis before deciding on a third movie to watch.
The third movie you choose is one that never fails to make you laugh- Bridesmaids. You had a moment of hesitancy because of the sex scenes, but you figured they were ridiculous enough that it wouldn't be awkward. Thankfully you're correct and you get the added bonus of hearing Bucky's laughter again during Megan's scenes, especially when they get food poisoning and are all fighting for the bathroom.
You and Bucky take yet another break after the film, just stretching and finding something to drink.
"So what's the verdict, Barnes? Are you enjoying the films?"
He grins. "Your taste is all over the place, huh? That last one we watched was raunchy."
"But hilarious! You need to watch the Hangover trilogy, but you definitely need to watch that with Steve and then watch him squirm at the pictures that roll with the credits."
"I'll keep that in mind."
Jurassic Park holds his attention and he can't help but comment how stupid one has to be to replicate dinosaur DNA and then open up a park with live dinosaurs. You laugh, but don't bother commenting. You'll tell him later there are more movies involved, with yet another idiotic man who felt he could get the park up and running once more.
It's getting dark, but it's still a little too early for dinner. One more movie and then you'll order or go out and pick something up.
"So this last one for the day is a movie that's directed more towards the female viewers, but you did ask for my favorite films and Practical Magic is my absolute favorite."
"Well put it on, doll."
As you press play on Practical Magic, you quickly grab a throw blanket and snuggle in. Instead of watching Bucky, you watch the film and mumble certain quotes to yourself. The magic scenes always bring a soft smile to your face just as Gary's confession to Sally of I wished for you too breaks your heart, and Sally and Gillian's heartfelt sister moment makes you cry.
Afterwards, Bucky hums in thought. "So that's your favorite?"
"Absolutely." You tell him. He's watching you curiously and you grin. "If I show you something, you promise not to laugh?"
"I'll try."
"Whatever. That's good enough for me." Standing up, you walk towards him and kneel, and tell him to pull your shirt sideways by the armhole next to your left arm. There on the back of your left shoulder and forever etched into your skin is a salt shaker, a rosemary plant, a lavender plant, and a heart. You then rattle off one of your favorite quotes to him. "Always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Plant lavender for luck and fall in love whenever you can."
Bucky chuckles as you get up, retaking your spot on the sofa. "You really are a fan of the movie."
You nod. "As a little girl, I was fascinated by magic. I thought I'd grow out of it, but I only grew more fond of it. And then I found Practical Magic and it had a bit of everything I adored."
"So what's the one scene that just gets you every time?"
"Ugh. You're making me choose?!" You feign being distraught and he grins. As you think about it, you keep coming back to two scenes in particular. "So there's two," you tell him, "and I'm not choosing between them." Bucky nods, awaiting your answer. "Gillian's possession. When Sally calls together the other mothers who were mean to her in order to make a temporary coven to save her sister, and Gillian begs Sally to just let her ghost ex have her."
Bucky hums. "That was a bit sad, doll. I saw you shedding a few tears over that."
"Mhm. And the other scene is when Sally comes clean to Gary and admits that she did a spell as a child to call forth her perfect love thinking it wouldn't exist, only it did. When Gary tells Sally that he wished for her too, it just breaks my fuckin' heart."
"Let me guess, you were one of the girls who cast her own spell after seeing that scene." You stay quiet for a moment and the second you feel your face heat, Bucky laughs. "What did you wish for?"
You groan quietly. "If I tell you, you can't laugh!" He only smiles in response and you know he won't drop it until you tell him. "Fine. So even though I knew it would never work, I gathered the weirdest objects and wished for a significant other with dark hair and colored eyes. He had to be protective and funny and love me for me. Simple."
For some reason you can't seem to meet Bucky's gaze then and you feel awkward the longer the silence stretches on.
"So dinner?" He asks.
"Oh god, yes please. Pizza and wings?"
"Sounds good."
You have the nearby pizza place on speed dial, so after finding out Bucky's preferences you make the call and place the order. It's going to be about a thirty minute wait, so you fill the time sending Steve pic after pic of Bucky who's none the wiser as he scrolls through his own phone and adding the most asinine comments to each picture. Steve thinks it's absolutely hilarious.
Then when the pizza and wings arrive, you beat Bucky to the door and thrust several bills at the delivery boy. He's more than happy with his tip and you hurriedly wave him off before shutting the door. You laugh at Bucky's disgruntled expression and then place everything on the table while gathering a beer for both you and him.
"Don't let me have more than two," you tell him while handing him his own bottle of beer.
Bucky agrees and the two of you dig into your own personal pizzas and boxes of wings once you're situated around the table. As you're eating, Bucky asks about what other movies you hold near and dear. You fill him in on a few others and he hesitantly puts it out there that he'd be up for another movie marathon when you both have a day off. You agree that that's doable.
Halfway through dinner, as you and Bucky are chuckling over the thought of making Steve sit through Bridesmaids, there's a sound of glass breaking from your living room and a muffled curse. The two of you immediately cease making any type of noise and Bucky is up with a gun in hand.
"Where the hell did that come from?! You hiss.
The telltale sound of a window then sliding shut can be heard.
"Shut up and get behind me."
The authority in his voice makes you freeze and your heart flutter at the same time, and you have to mentally scold yourself before you quickly do as he says. You follow Bucky towards the living, ready to duck at the ready, only to sigh and roll your eyes when you see who it is.
Bucky stands tall and lowers his gun. "Parker." You can practically hear the annoyance in his voice.
"Mr. Barnes?" Peeking around his shoulder, you raise your eyebrow at your best friend who's been too busy for you and is now frowning at Bucky. When he catches sight of you, he asks, "What's going on?"
"Uh, well we were having dinner until we thought someone was breaking in."
"Alone?!"
Your brow furrows at Peter's incredulousness, only for him to realize you're not impressed with his tone. You raise an eyebrow at him and cross your arms over your chest. "Did you need something?"
"Oh, um, yeah." He shifts from foot to foot, gesturing to his face where there's a scrape on his cheekbone. "My ribs took a beating too. Can you patch me up?"
"Sure." You sigh. "Why not."
Before you can leave to go to the bathroom to get the supplies you need, Bucky says, "I'll just get out of your way then."
You stop and face him. "What? But we haven't even finished our food. It won't take me long."
"It's fine, doll." He grins when he realizes you're trying to get him to stay. "You gotta hit the hay early anyway. We'll talk soon."
You hold his gaze for a moment longer, sighing when he won't budge. "Well at least take your food with you. No use in it going to waste."
Bucky nods and heads back to the kitchen, collecting his food. You watch him and then follow him to the door, holding his food while he bends over to lace up his boots. Once he retakes his food and you open the door, he thanks you for the time away from the tower and disappears down the hall.
Shutting the door and then heading back into the living room, you tell Peter to get back into his regular clothes so you can get to his ribs while you go gather your medical supplies.
Meeting Peter back in the living room and setting everything down on the coffee table, he says, "So you and Bucky-"
"Don't." You pick up the peroxide bottle and soak a cotton ball in it. "Bucky and I are friends."
Peter manages to keep his mouth shut as you clean the scrape on his cheek and place a small bandage on it. Then when you've checked his ribs and tell him he just needs to ice them, he mumbles, "Friends who apparently lick each other." You snort and think nothing of his sullen tone, but when you look at his face you see he's actually being quite serious. There's no chuckle or boyish grin and for a moment you're absolutely floored at his attitude. "I don't think I'm comfortable with Bucky being alone with you in your apartment."
"Are you- are you kidding me?" You huff and take a step back from him. When Peter just continues to frown, you shake your head at him. "First of all, I'm an adult woman who can make her own decisions."
"I know, but-"
"I'm not finished!" You snap. Peter's eyes widen, but he smartly ceases talking. "I am allowed to have friends whether you like them or not. We have a pact, Petey, and since I'm still abiding by it I would hope that you would too."
"Yeah, but that's for significant others!"
"Significant others or friends, it doesn't matter. And you should be grateful I've kept my mouth shut when it comes to you and Leslie because let me tell you, I've been biting my tongue a lot these past few weeks. Bucky and the others have stepped up since you've abandoned me, so you have absolutely no room to tell me that you're uncomfortable with him or any of them being around me."
"Leslie isn't that bad and I have not abandoned you." You snort, but don't bother opening that can of worms even further. He finally gets annoyed with your quietness. "I'm here, aren't I?"
"You're here because you needed a bandage. Tell me, Peter, where are you going after here? Where are you going after making five minutes of small talk and calling it a night?" He opens his mouth and then snaps it shut, shrugs, and you shake your head at him once more in disappointment. "Exactly. Just go, Peter. I'm so over this conversation right now and I have work in the morning."
"Wait, but we promised we'd never leave a conversation where we were still annoyed with each other!"
"And we also promised we'd never judge who the other decided to spend time with, but here we are." He frowns at you. "Go to your girlfriend, Peter. We'll talk again in another few days or weeks or whenever. I don't care right now."
Peter stands there, gaping, before he pulls himself together and makes his way back towards the window he had crawled through. He glances at you one last time, but you merely keep staring until his mask encompasses his head once more and he lifts the window before taking his leave.
As the window shuts behind him, you sag in on yourself and your breathing stutters in your chest as your eyes fill with tears. You've never been this angry at Peter and the fact that he thinks it's okay to ignore you until he needs something and then has an opinion about who you hang out with was just too much for you to let slide.
You quickly gather everything from your coffee table and return it to its rightful place in your bathroom, and throw away the trash. Your appetite is long gone, so you put up what's left of your food and then head to your room to gather some clothes so you can shower and get into bed.
By the time you've crawled into bed, you're still a bit annoyed. So grabbing your phone, you pull up your text messages and click on Bucky's thread.
To Bucky: Well that was a shit show. I don't think I've ever made Petey leave my apartment while we were still angry with each other.
From Bucky: I'm sorry, doll. Anything I can do?
To Bucky: If he gives you attitude, get a non-serum individual to punch him. You, Steve, and probably Nat will send him flying into the wall.
From Bucky: If I remember..
To Bucky: Well I mean if you forget, I won't complain. I'll probably laugh when he comes crying to me.
From Bucky: You're a terrible human being.
To Bucky: Whatever. You adore me just the way I am. And now I should get some shut eye. I'll talk to you soon. Night, Sarge.
From Bucky: Night, sweetheart.
For the next couple of weeks, you keep yourself busy with work. Bucky and a few others do go on a mission as he said they would, so you keep your texts to a minimum of three each day- a good morning, a random story from that day, and a good night. They're gone for four days and in those four days you've not heard from Peter. The only reason you know he's not completely done with you is the fact he likes your posts that you put up on social media.
But since you're not currently speaking to your best friend and are too exhausted to hang out with anyone else, you're in a bit of a funk and completely caught off guard one evening when the patient a police officer brings in smacks you right across the face. You had been trying to insert an IV into his arm when he completely lost his shit, and then you were hit so hard that you were strewn across the gurney behind you. And in your vulnerable position, a fistful of your hair had been grabbed and yanked right before the police officer had intervened and pulled the patient off of you.
You had been given a bit of time to ice your cheek before you had to get back to work, but your face and scalp were hurting you the entire time.
On your way home, however, you're surprised to receive a call from Pepper. You're heading towards your apartment complex when she invites you to dinner there at the tower since Darcy is finally back in town, and you hate to do it, but you're not exactly up to be around such a rowdy bunch. So you apologize to Pepper and ask her to apologize to Darcy for you, and take a rain check. Immediately she knows something is wrong, but you only tell her you had a rough night at work and all you want is a hot shower and to crawl into bed. She hesitates but wishes you well, and the call ends moments later.
When you get home, you waste no time in locking the door behind you and heading straight for your bathroom. You strip down and take the hottest shower your body is capable of handling, and let yourself relax in the steam-filled room. Afterwards, as you're drying off, you gently dry your hair since your scalp is still sensitive and then get dressed in some of your comfort clothes.
Then heading out into the kitchen, you find some leftovers in your fridge and heat those up, tiredly sitting at your kitchen table and digging in. Just as you're done with your food and heading towards the living room, someone pounds on your apartment door. You sigh, hoping they go away, and have only plopped down onto the sofa when a familiar gruff voice speaks through the wood.
You quietly groan as Bucky tells you he knows you're there and you get up to open the door for him. He's on the verge of knocking again when you swing the door open. "Hey. Pepper said-" He trails off as he takes in your appearance, expression going slack before his jaw clenches in anger. "Who?"
You shake your head, gesturing him inside as you turn around and walk towards your sofa. You hear your door click shut before the footsteps follow you. "Work got a little hectic. No need to hunt down anyone, Barnes. I'm fine."
"Half your face is bruised, doll. You are not fine."
"It's all part of my job." You shrug and plop down onto the sofa once more. Pulling a blanket over your lap, you stare up at your friend. "There will always be a drunk and disorderly patient. I was just lucky he didn't do more damage."
Bucky frowns, but he doesn't push you on it. Instead, he walks over and sits next to you, angling his body towards yours when gentle fingers grasp your chin to angle your face more towards him. "What exactly happened?" He asks as his eyes dart over every inch of your face.
"Some petty criminal did some damage to his head in the back of a patrol car. Police officer brought him in and he seemed pretty docile up until I jabbed him with the IV. He got the drop on me. It happens." Gentle fingers brush along your cheekbone and you flinch. Tears sting your eyes as you sniffle. "I'm fine."
"Just because you keep sayin' that doesn't mean it's true."
Your bottom lip wobbles at his words and you lose the battle with keeping the tears at bay. The moment they fall, Bucky pulls you into a hug and you cry into his shoulder. "Dammit," you mumble. "See what you started!"
Bucky chuckles and he holds you a few moments longer, rubbing a hand up and your back to offer a semblance of comfort. When he lets you go, you fall back against the sofa cushions and wipe the tears away with your blanket. "So what are we watching?" He asks while settling in next to you and draping an arm behind your head.
"Shouldn't you go back to the tower and have dinner with the rest of them? I'm-"
"If you say you're fine one more time, I will drag you back to the tower and let Steve motherhen you."
You sigh. "Low blow, Buckaroo."
"And for that horrendous nickname, you've lost the privilege of choosing what we're going to watch."
You laugh and don't bother arguing with him about it as he leans across you to snag up the remote. When he settles back down and you snuggle into his side, you huff a small laugh when he settles on TLC which is showing 90 Day Fiancé.
"Why this show?" You ask.
"Because it blows my mind that some people are so oblivious and can't see that their chosen partner is only in it for the green card."
As you let his reasoning sink in, you can't help but giggle as you picture Bucky sitting in his own apartment and bad mouthing the TV because he didn't like the decisions the people were making in their love life. You watch along with him, cringing at the more obvious couples that are only headed for future divorce and smiling when one of the couples is actually in it for love.
You manage to almost watch a complete two hour episode when there's a knock on your door, but you're too comfortable to get up and answer it.
"You get it," you say as you nudge Bucky.
He nudges you back. "It's your apartment."
"Yeah, but I don't feel like getting up."
"You could have at least come up with a better excuse."
You grin, finally taking your eyes off the screen and glancing up at Bucky. "M'too tired. Brain's not working fast enough." He continues to give you a deadpan stare until you jut out your bottom lip. "Please?"
The second Bucky's lips twitch, you know you've won. He huffs and roughly pushes himself up off the sofa as if answering the door is a hardship, and you go back to watching TV. At least until you hear a familiar voice stammer, "Uh, h-hey Mr. Barnes. Is Y/N home?"
Your gaze snaps towards the door where Peter is standing out in the hallway, hands in his pockets as he sheepishly stares at Bucky. The man in question turns and raises an eyebrow at you as if saying what do I do and you give him a terse nod to let him know it's okay. Bucky steps aside and Peter readily walks in.
"I should be getting back to the tower," Bucky suddenly says. "You kids have fun."
This time it's your turn to give him a deadpan stare and he smirks right before slipping his boots back on. Then as soon as they're laced up, he's walking out the door and shutting it behind him. Peter, who hadn't stopped staring at the intimidating man, finally turns to look at you. And when he does, his eyes widen.
"What happened to your face?!"
You sigh. "I'm fine. Just had a little incident at work."
"And Mr. Barnes was what? Comforting you?"
"First of all, can you stop calling him Mr. Barnes? You two avenge together and what not. I'm pretty sure that means you're on a first name basis." Peter grins as he takes a seat on the recliner near you, shrugging. "And Bucky was here because when I turned down dinner at the tower, Pepper figured something was wrong. Bucky took it upon himself to check in."
"So are you two like a thing or something?" He wonders.
"We're just.. friends," you say. "For some unknown reason we clicked and we're comfortable in each other's company."
For a moment Peter doesn't say anything, nor will he meet your gaze, but then he's looking at you and sighing. "I'm sorry." You blink at him, surprised to hear the apology. "I shouldn't have freaked out that one night. Who you are friends with and who you decide to date is your business."
You finally smile, even though it's rather small. "Thank you. And don't get me wrong, I know you meant well, but you should have dropped it and just trusted my judgment."
"Yeah. I know," he mumbles.
"Soo.. are we good?" You ask.
"Yeah."
"Good. I was getting tired of you liking my posts and not commenting on them."
Peter snorts. A moment of silence passes and then he says, "So you'll be glad to know that Leslie and I aren't together anymore. I broke it off earlier tonight."
You wince. "Sorry."
"Nah. Don't be. She was totally using me for access to the tower." You're torn between being smug about being right and being sad for your friend who just ended his relationship. "I only realized it earlier when she got upset because Mr. Rogers posted a picture of you and Mr. Barnes together, and she had a few choice words to say about it."
"What? Steve posted a picture of us?" You quickly pull out your phone, checking social media for any notifications. There are none, but as you get on Instagram you check Steve's page and sure enough there's a new pic that shows Bucky staring fondly at you as you laugh at something on your phone. "That little shit didn't tag us!"
As your thumbs move furiously to give Steve a piece of your mind and to comment how adorable you and Bucky look, Peter can't help but say, "You're attracted to him."
Your texting falters and you quickly glance at your friend to gauge his reaction, but when he just looks amused, you shrug. "I mean have you seen him? How could I not be attracted to him?"
"Does he know?"
"I have a feeling he does. Asshole likes to fluster me every now and then."
"Well if it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure he likes you back." You snort and go back to finishing up the comment on Steve's post. "I'm serious. When we stopped talking, he threatened me. He was pissed that I made you cry and said I was lucky. He's actually really scary when you're on his bad side."
It takes a moment for his words to sink in and when they do you can feel your ears heating up, followed by your cheeks. Peter starts to laugh and you groan in embarrassment. "Why is this so weird? Dating should be easy!"
"Well he is an Avenger.."
"I don't care about that! He's just- he's really, really hot. It's intimidating."
"Wait, what?" Peter huffs. "So you're intimidated by his hotness and not because he's a super-soldier with a metal arm?"
"Well yeah."
Expression melting into one of confusion, your friend eventually shakes his head at you. "You're on your own with that. Good luck."
You hadn't realized how much everyone had known about your and Peter's brief falling out until the two of you were laughing together once again at the tower. It seemed like everyone had sagged in relief now that the two of you were poking fun at one another once more, and you had to apologize for apparently making it awkward for them.
And now that your best friend knew of your crush on a certain super-soldier, there was lots of teasing material. Of course you kept him in line when you could, but there was no stopping the force of Peter, Wanda, and Darcy combined.
It's a random Tuesday night when you've driven over to the Tower, Bucky having called you over for dinner with a few friends. You had the day off so you didn't mind heading on over, but as the elevator doors slide open after having ridden up to the communal floor, you yelp in surprise as the small gathered crows that shout, "Happy birthday!", at you.
Steve, Wanda, Sam, and Peter pop confetti poppers as you step out of the elevator, eyes wide as you glance between each of them. "My birthday is not until tomorrow!" You hiss.
"But you work tomorrow." Wanda frowns.
"Mhm." Your eyes then narrow, glancing behind them at the streamers and balloons hanging from the ceiling. "And how'd you guys even know?"
Everyone glances at Peter and he takes a step back when your gaze slides to him. He chuckles sheepishly. "I might have hid your birthday cupcake here and Steve found it."
"Petey," you groan. "Why couldn't you just hide it at aunt May's like usual? You know I dislike birthday celebrations."
"You don't dislike them. You just dislike all the attention being on you."
"Whatever. Where's Barnes? He's the one who lured me here under false pretenses. I got a bone to pick with him too."
Everyone turns around and Bucky's head appears from around the corner. He smirks and you glare at him. "Not false pretenses. We are having dinner," he says. "It just so happens to be a birthday dinner. And it's running a little bit late, so until the food gets here you get to open presents."
"You guys all suck."
Peter and Wanda each take a hand and drag you further into the room, heading towards the kitchen. Bucky fully steps out from behind the wall and you aim a kick at his shin as you're walking by. He laughs as he easily dodges it and then you're standing by the kitchen island that's been cleared of everything other than birthday presents.
You huff a small laugh and shake your head fondly at them. "I love you guys, but you do know you didn't have to get me anything, right?"
"Shut up and open the presents," Bucky says.
"Open mine first," Sam says, reaching into the small pile and pulling out a white envelope. "Unlike the others, I was literally told within the last thirty minutes we were doing this so yeah. It's not the best present, but I think you'll enjoy it."
You smile at Sam as you open it, chuckling at the plain birthday card and his brief personal message written inside. But it's what else that's inside that makes you meet Sam's gaze once more, smiling fondly at him. "Thank you. I can't get enough of bubble tea and I'm sure I can do some damage with this gift card."
"You're welcome."
"Mine next." Peter reaches in for a medium-sized box and hands it over to you. "I know you're not a fan of presents, so I got you something I actually knew you'd enjoy."
Raising an eyebrow at him, you pull the lid off of the box. Then glancing down, you snort before pulling out a bottle of Patron Silver Tequila. "I knew we were best friends for a reason."
Steve groans. "Please drink responsibly."
"Please. Responsible is my middle name, Rogers." Everyone snorts and instead of trying to remain serious and feign offense, you end up laughing. "Sam and Buck are good babysitters. You have nothing to worry about."
"That's to be determined," he says. "Here. Open mine. I honestly had no idea what to get you, but Peter assured me you'd enjoy this."
Putting the bottle of tequila back in its box, you accept Steve's gift. Pulling off the ribbon, you can't help but laugh when you see what's inside. "Cards Against Humanity." Peter cheers. "We're playing this the next time I have off," you say, grinning at Steve.
"What is Cards Against Humanity?" He wonders. "I just picked it up and boxed it."
"It's possibly one of the most confusing card games or raunchy card games you'll ever play," Sam says. "I, for one, am looking forward to it."
"Thank you, Steve. I seriously can't wait to play it."
"You're welcome."
Wanda claps her hands. "Mine and Darcy's next. She ordered online and I had to pick it up earlier. But, um, I'm not sure you want to open it up in front of everyone."
"Oh god. Don't tell me it's a vibrator."
Sam laughs out loud as both Peter and Steve start blushing. Bucky looks rather amused and intrigued as Wanda slides two boxes over to you. She shakes her head, giggling. "Not quite."
For a brief moment you're relieved, but then her answer sinks in and you're hesitant all over again. You groan. "Is yours safer? I feel like it is. Which one is it?"
Wanda only smirks as she pushes her box towards you. You open it, marvel at its contents, and then put the lid back on much to the boys' displeasure. Trying to keep a straight face, you look at Wanda. "How many sets did you get?"
"There's four. All in colors that will look amazing against your skin tone."
"Thank you. I'll send you pictures when I wear them."
"Yes please! Natasha wants to know how they fit as well. She was the one who suggested them."
"I'll send them to the ladies group chat then."
"Well that's not fair," Sam complains. "First for not showing us what's inside the box and then you guys have a ladies only group chat. I wanna be in the ladies only group chat."
"But then that defeats the purpose of it being a ladies only group chat," you muse.
"Come on," Peter then whines. "What was the present?"
Your gaze slides to Peter, but instead of outright saying what it is, you say, "Think back to that one Halloween night where you wouldn't let me out of the dorm until I switched costumes."
It takes him only a minute to understand and when he does, he snorts. "That wasn't a costume! That was lingerie."
"Whoa, what?" Sam exclaims, grinning.
"Lingerie can be worn as a costume?" Steve wonders.
"I was actually a Victoria's Secret Angel, complete with the most amazing set of wings, and Petey forbade me from leaving the room. It was a sad, sad night."
"As much as I wanna get into that," Sam says, "I wanna know what Barnes got you more."
You chuckle and glance at Bucky, smile faltering when you see him tense. But then he seems to shake himself out of it and offers you a grin. "Open the bigger one first."
Wanda clears away the other presents as Bucky slides his two towards you. You feel giddy as you grab the bigger box, untying the black silk ribbons and lifting the lid. There's tissue paper you open up and you gasp, happily giggling. "You didn't?!"
"Well you did say it was your favorite movie, sweetheart."
"Yes!" You glance up, beaming at Bucky, and your heart swells at his own smile being directed at you. "I really, really love this. I can't wait to hang it up."
"What is it?" Peter wonders, trying to peer across the island.
"It's a quote from Practical Magic," you say and Peter huffs a laugh, knowing full well your love for that movie. You carefully pick it up and turn it around so everyone can see it as you read it off by heart. "Always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Plant lavender for luck and fall in love whenever you can."
"Aw," Wanda coos. "That's adorable."
"I made Bucky watch this movie a while back," you say. "I need to show it to you one of these days."
"I'm looking forward to it," she says.
With nothing else to say, you place it back in its box and set it aside in favor for the second box. It's a little smaller, but you're excited for it nonetheless. Untying the ribbon and lifting the lid, you immediately laugh at the white petals scattered atop the tissue paper.
"Barnes, you smooth sonuvabitch," Sam mutters.
Steve and Peter laugh, but you're so focused on the notecard that's under some of the petals. Lifting it up, you read the note to yourself because immediately you know it's personal. My better half has to be funny, get along with my friends, won't judge me for my past, and has decent taste in movies.
Heart fluttering, you bite the corner of your lip when it feels like you're smiling way too much.
"Well what does Prince Charming have to say?" Sam asks.
"That's none of your business." You close the note and then tuck into your back pocket, chuckling when Sam and Wanda complain. When you meet Bucky's gaze, you immediately flush and mentally curse yourself when you see him smirk in return.
Inhaling and exhaling deeply, you center yourself and then part the tissue paper. You look at the second portrait and gasp after you read it.
"What? What is it?" Peter wonders.
This second portrait is of a hand drawn bowl with a tipped over salt shaker, a small bundle of lavender, a small bundle of rosemary, and a heart beneath it. Above the bowl is a swirl of flower petals and inside the swirl of petals, in very pretty cursive writing, are the words I wished for you too.
Did he just- did he confess his own feelings by using a Practical Magic quote? Or was this just you overthinking his present? You glance to meet Bucky's gaze and at his gauging expression your eyes fill with tears.
"What did you do, Barnes?!" Sam scolds him. "You made the poor girl cry at her own birthday celebration!"
But Bucky isn't paying him any attention, instead he's solely focused on you. You set the present aside and walk around the kitchen island on shaky legs, and Bucky readily reaches for your waist as you grab his face and pull him down into a kiss.
You can't believe you're kissing Bucky, but then he squeezes your waist and returns the kiss, and you know you made the right choice.
Someone gasps, but then the following words let you know exactly who it is. "Darcy is going to be so angry she missed this." Wanda. That is Wanda.
"What the hell is going on?" Sam wonders. "What type of present can cause this type of reaction?"
You smile against Bucky's mouth, pressing a chaste kiss to the corner of his mouth before falling flat on your feet after having been on the tips of your toes in order to reach his mouth.
"It's my favorite quote from my favorite movie," you say. You turn around to address your friends, but Bucky doesn't let you go far. He wraps one arm around your waist and tugs you back so you're resting against his chest and tucked beneath his chin. "It's a movie about witches," you explain. "These two little girls are being raised by their aunts and they see them performing love spells for a local woman. Basically, one of the young girls refuses to fall in love after witnessing a love spell gone wrong and she does her own spell to call forward a love that would be impossible to find- a man who's favorite shape would be a star and who had one green eye, one blue. Years down the road, the sisters accidentally murder a man."
Sam snorts. "How the hell does one accidentally murder someone?"
"Shush." Wanda admonishes him. "I want to hear the story behind the gift."
You and Bucky chuckle, and you continue to explain. "Anyway, they send in an US Marshall to investigate the disappearance and the one who had done the love spell at a young age starts to fall for this man. She ends up telling him about the murder, but he doesn't quite believe her. Then they're on the verge of hooking up when she gets a good look at his eyes- one green eye, one blue."
"Oh my god. That's so cute!" Wanda says.
"It gets cuter. And sadder," you say. "So she explains to this man about her family, the murder, and how she can't be with him because he's only attracted to her because of a love spell she did when she was just a little girl. At first he's skeptical about this spell bringing him to her, but then he ends up believing her. And as he's walking away from her, he stops to tell her I wished for you too."
"So you made out with Barnes because of that?" Sam shakes his head, chuckling. "Wow."
"It's fuckin' adorable. Stop ruining the moment, Samuel!" Bucky laughs at your words and pulls you closer to him.
"So while I'm happy for Buck," Steve says, "I'm still really curious about what Darcy's gift is."
Peter nods. "Same."
Wanda giggles, but says nothing as she grabs the box and slides it over to you. You groan because you know it can be nothing good, but you still open it since everyone is watching and waiting. As soon as you part the tissue paper and read the box, alongside taking in the picture on the box, your face flames as you shove the lid back on. Wanda cackles.
"I hate her."
"She said to give the remote to-"
"Don't!" You cut Wanda off, blushing even further. "I know who she means to have control of that."
"They- they make underwear that does that?" Bucky muses and you die a little on the inside in embarrassment. You elbow him as he starts to laugh behind you.
Sam instantly knows what the gift is now and starts to laugh, but Steve and Peter apparently need some help.
"Lewis got you vibrating panties, didn't she?"
"Oh my god, Sam, if you don't shut up I'm gonna punch you in the throat."
Steve is torn between laughing and trying not to make you even more uncomfortable, but his amusement wins out. "Given Y/N's flustered state, I'm assuming Darcy wants Bucky to have the remote."
"I mean this seems like it could make for an interesting night."
Everyone laughs at Bucky's sudden interest in the box you're doing your damnedest to keep shut, but luckily Peter steps in. "As much I love watching Y/N squirm, can we get ready to eat? I'm starving."
"Yeah, yeah. Let's go wait downstairs for it, kid."
Sam and Peter head for the elevator to take them down to the lobby, and you turn around in Bucky's hold. "Help me take this stuff to my car so I don't have to do it later?"
"Sure thing, doll." He grins. But instead of stepping away, he pushes you further into the kitchen island. You smile as he cages you in and then huff a laugh when he reaches for the box behind you. "So exactly how long do we have to be dating before we can test these out?"
You slowly lean upward so your lips brush his as you say, "I'd say very, very soon if you would put your ass into gear and help me move these presents like I asked."
Bucky laughs and presses a quick kiss to your lips. "Then let's get to it."
The telltale sound of a phone's camera goes off and you turn your face towards the sound. Wanda is beaming, her phone pointed towards you and Bucky. "Darcy wanted evidence I wasn't lying. She's going to be so happy."
Bucky turns his face to look at her then, his cheek brushing against yours where he's yet to back off from you. "Tell Lewis I said thanks for the present. I'll give her my review of them in a few weeks."
Wanda's eyes widen and you immediately blurt, "Don't you dare!" But she's already texting and you know the group chat full of ladies is going to be full of messages that you'll have to reply to later. Quietly groaning, you slap your hands against Bucky's waist and push him back. Looking up at him, you shake your head but the corner of your lips turn up in amusement. "You're terrible. I would threaten to withhold sex, but I've been looking forward to that for a while. I'd just be punishing us both."
"Just tell me when and where, sweetheart, and I'll be there."
"Oh no. You guys are going to be that couple," Steve complains.
And without missing a beat, you face him and say, "Fuck off, Rogers!" Bucky snorts.
"You're cranky when you haven't gotten laid."
You gasp as Bucky bursts out laughing right in your ear, but he quickly catches you as you try to lunge for his best friend. "You know what, I was going to be discreet when banging your best friend, but now I'm going to tell you all the filthy things Bucky likes to do just to annoy you. I will go into excruciating detail about the look and taste of his dick!"
Steve blanches as it's Wanda's turn to burst out laughing. "You've done it now, Steve."
And as Steve looks to Bucky for help, he merely shrugs. "You brought this on yourself, Stevie. Hope you enjoy the play by plays."
Relaxing in Bucky's hold and moving so you're hip to hip with him, you slide your arm behind his waist and hook your thumb into the belt loop of his jeans. "We're going to have so much fun."

Chapter 4: What Doesn’t Kill You
Every pore in your body throbbed when you came to the following morning. Light surged through a nearby wall of windows, which did absolutely nothing save for increase the already-thunderous pounding in your head. You only had time to note you were in the tower’s medical area before your eyes snapped shut to keep out the glare. With a groan, you rolled away from all the sunlight and buried your face back into your pillow.
A slight rustling sound soon caught your attention. It wasn’t loud, but it didn’t take much to drill right into your sore skull. You pressed your eyelids tighter together. The noise didn’t stop. At last you were forced to open your eyes again just to find the source of all that racket.
Fortunately, you didn’t have far to look: Tony Stark—sporting two of the most spectacular black eyes you’d ever seen—lay in the bed beside yours, and he had a bag of his favorite freeze-dried blueberries in his lap. Before you could ask him to kindly chew more quietly until you could see straight again, he smirked.
“Somebody’s in trouble,” Tony sang.
“What are you talking about?” you asked.
His smirk widened as he motioned back toward the windows you’d just escaped. With a sinking heart, you rolled over again…and this time you spotted your visitor. Bucky sat there in the chair pulled up next to your bed. His jaw was set in that way of his that you typically saw after he’d spent an hour trying to work through Tony’s instructions on how to use the entertainment system in your living room—but now all that frustration was directed at you.
“A baby?” he demanded, before giving you any chance whatsoever to greet him.
Crap. You hadn’t forgotten the events that had led to your stay in the hospital wing, but you’d hoped to have a bit more time before Bucky confronted you over them. Or, barring that, that you’d passed out before you thought you did and had dreamed Steve spilling the beans. Neither reality came to pass.
“I’m sorry,” you said flatly.
“Sorry? You’re having a baby, [Name]!”
Either Steve had already told everyone the news, or Tony was too interested in the fight to care what the fight was over. He just kept plowing steadily though his blueberries. Not a single eye was batted over the part where you were pregnant.
Bucky got to his feet, his eyes blazing. You looked at him as steadily as you could when your head hurt as badly as it did. Apparently your Abomination-induced injuries were not going to get your husband to pull any punches, and you had no intention of playing the pity card yourself.
“You could have got yourself killed,” Bucky said.
“I could have got myself killed even if I wasn’t pregnant.”
“That’s not the point!”
“Then what is the point, Buck?” you asked.
You were painfully aware of the audience he seemed oblivious to. Guilt bubbled in the pit of your stomach, where it had been firmly entrenched pretty much nonstop since you took that blasted test a few days ago. Did he have to go and make it that much worse? Your question did seem to give him pause, though, if nothing else.
“I…I don’t know,” he said.
“You don’t know why you’re mad at me?”
“No, I don’t know what to be more mad about! That you’re pregnant, or that you’re pregnant and didn’t tell me, or that you’re pregnant and didn’t tell me and almost died.”
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Tony put in. “If she’d almost died, she’d be hooked up to a heart monitor. Which she’s not. That’s the little blip-blip thing we have to stick on Cap every time he exits the building, in case you’re curious.”
“Shut up, Stark,” Bucky snapped.
Tony only replied with a mocking “ooo.”
You, on the other hand, struggled to sit up straighter. Bucky very rarely lost his temper in front of anyone that wasn’t Steve or Natasha or you. He always thought someone might change their mind about letting him walk free if they thought he was at all more threatening than usual. Though he never said so, you suspected a SHIELD cell like the one the Abomination had broken out of haunted his dreams more often than he liked to admit. If he was shouting at Tony, that meant Bucky was mad—really mad.
“Bucky,” you started, “I’m so—”
“How long?” he interrupted.
“How long what?”
“How long have you known you were pregnant?”
You stared at him. There was a ragged edge to his voice that you didn’t understand. “A week. That’s all. I swear.”
“And you didn’t tell me.”
“I was going to.”
“When? After you went and had the damn thing?”
“I got scared, okay?”
“Oh, but not so scared you couldn’t tell Steve.”
“This has nothing to do with Steve.”
“Not from where I’m standing. Christ, [Name],” he ran his metal fingers through his hair, “we talked about this. How could you go and get pregnant?”
Now Bucky was starting to piss you off. Did he not realize that this behavior was exactly why you’d been afraid to tell him in the first place? If he could remember that pre-proposal talk about not having kids, you sure could in vivid detail. His tone fired you right up; you sat so straight so suddenly that room around you spun.
“Maybe it was the unprotected sex we had,” you spat, and were pleased to see him shoot Tony an embarrassed sort of look. “It takes two to tango, Bucky, so don’t you dare try to lay this all on me.”
“That’s not what I meant.” He had the grace to hang his head, but that wasn’t enough for you. Not anymore.
“Well, that’s what it looks like from where I’m standing. And I’m not the only one keeping a secret. What did you guys find in Russia that’s got Steve so worried?”
Any of the shame he’d shown a minute before vanished at once. “That’s none of your business.”
“Then I guess this baby is none of your business.”
“The two aren’t equal.”
“How would I know, since you refuse to tell me?”
Your eyes met. The clicking sound of the metal plates in his arm filled the room as Bucky fidgeted. Then, to your surprise, he ended your staring contest and stormed off toward the elevator.
“Where are you going?” you shouted after him.
He paused only long enough to hurl back, “I promised Steve I’d help him transport Blonski back to the Arctic! Seems like a good time to yell at him for telling you anything—and for knowing my wife was pregnant before I did!”
The lift doors closed. He disappeared from view. That didn’t stop you from glaring in that direction in the hopes that he would feel your displeasure, though. Once several minutes had passed, you slowly allowed yourself to unwind. Only when Tony spoke again did you remember you weren’t alone:
“Not that it’s any of my business, but I feel that could have gone a hell of a lot better.”
“Shut up, Tony,” you said, before turning over and shutting your eyes.
Maybe if you fell asleep, you’d wake up and find everything since Bucky’s return had been some horrible dream. You didn’t want to consider what the next nine months would be like if it weren’t.

Synopsis: It’s the final day of the tournament and all are holding their breath to see who prevails.
Thanks to everyone and thanks in advance for all your feedback. :)
I really hope you enjoy. 💋
<3 Let me know what you think with a like or reblog or reply or an ask! Love ya!
The arena was buoyant on the final day of the tournament. The most awaited event, the joust, was finally come. As Lord Barnes would once more be among the competitors, you were left on your own in the box with the rest of the ladies and their queen. Most of the noblemen were listed for the sport, Barnes, Rogers, Stark, and even the king.
You didn’t watch as the names were announced and the banners presented before the games commenced. Your attention wasn’t even drawn as the first clashed with their blunted staffs and galloping horses. It was much more perilous than the other contests.
You stayed away from the other women. You were not interested in humouring the queen’s false kindness nor were you interested in their chatter of things that hardly mattered to you. Sewing, birthing, loving; you didn’t care for any of it. You didn’t care for them or the men on the field. You cared for nothing in this bleak world.
As Barnes took to the saddle for his first opponent, you glanced down lazily but found your eyes drawn to clouds instead. It was bitterly cold under the grey sky, streaked with umbrous and ominous wisps. It would likely snow soon as if to mark the grand finale.
You tucked your hands into your sleeves and hugged yourself alone on the bench. You were drawn from your glowering by the rustle of skirts. The queen sat beside you and let out an airy sigh.
“Thankfully, my brother has kept clear of conflict,” she said, “in fact, he’s hardly spared another snarl for the visiting Baron.”
“Your majesty,” you muttered as the flag was waved and the horses barrelled at each other and the men pointed their long poles.
“Unless you count this,” she mused as his pole broke off the armour of the other men and sent his adversary sprawling and the other horse whinnying in a panic. You lowered your eyes meekly. “He will be eager to be away and I do hope you aid him in a speedy departure. The baron is expected to remain in the capital for the winter.”
“Yes, he is want to be gone back to the castle,” you assured her.
“It would be tragic if you were to be snowed in here. Very inconvenient and costly at that.”
“Certainly, your majesty,” you said flatly.
“You understand the urgency that will follow in the coming days,” she intoned.
“I understand but you do seem to misunderstand your brother. To think that I have any hold over him is farcical. He does as he pleases. He is a duke, I am a displaced chambermaid. That is all it is… your majesty.”
“You do not speak as a chambermaid,” she replied sharply, “my brother favours you but he still cannot overrule me, understood?”
“Your majesty, I understand my place completely,” you ceded, “would I be remiss to excuse myself?”
“For what means?”
“To find a commode,” you answered, “these game do carry on and I am distracted by my humanly needs.”
“Go off then,” she stood, “you are rather dour today. You would cast a mood over us all if you languish thus.”
“Your majesty,” you rose and made your way to the doors as she rejoined her ladies and gave a forced giggle as they welcomed her. You wondered how the nobles were trained so well in lies. Was it in their books or did their tutors include it in their curricula?
You descended the stairs without aim. You had no need of the commode, only an excuse. You stepped out into the lower stands and peered out at the field. In that moment, you could be gone. You could disappear and be away from all this misery.
You scoffed at yourself and leaned against the wooden planks. He’d find you again. You couldn’t make it far enough before he sniffed you out again. You weren’t stupid enough to try it twice, even at such an opportune moment. You would only earn yourself further punishment.
“Is something amusing, my lady?” you stood straight and looked startled to the man who emerged from the shadows of the stairway. Lord Zemo smirked and came to stand arm to arm with you as he looked out across the stadium.
“My lord, I was only watching the field,” you lied, “thinking.”
“Ah, yes, these games, how violent,” he remarked, “where I am from, we have festivals before tournaments. Singing, dancing, poetry, theatre… I suppose that is just as silly as all this.”
“It is… a privilege to be able to afford silliness,” you said, “to not be the one cleaning up after all of it and yet… so very pointless.”
He nodded and grumbled as he considered your words, “very true. Wise, even. I think that after one has seen how grave things can be, these affairs become less and less entertaining. It is almost sickening to think of them, let alone attend them. Why should men play at war as if it were fun?”
You peeked over at him. He was here because he once fought those men down on the field with real steel and armour. It was rather grim to think of. “I did not think of it like that but I suppose you are right. I know little of war, however, my lord.”
“You know of pain, though,” he said, “it is painted on you as much as those battle scars carried by veterans like your beloved Barnes.”
You were silent. You stared up at the sky again, the endless grey, the half-finished canvas.
“Beloved? Perhaps that is the wrong word for him. I see little affection there. I sense it is not an arrangement you asked for.”
“Does it matter if it is?” you shook your head, “My lord, you waste your breath on little more than a servant. I suffer Lord Barnes the same as any, I am no help to you.”
“Help? I have no desire to change my standing with Barnes, I am not so foolish as that,” he turned to face you, “Have none ever taken interest in you as your own being?”
“I am a servant. I am not my own being,” you murmured, “my lord, if you would, I should return to my party.”
“As you will,” he said dolefully, “it was a pleasure to meet again.”
“Was it?” you asked as you turned to go.
“It is always a relief to speak of anything but politics or gold,” he said, “and yes, you served me well in this conversation. As you said, that is all you are worth.”
You left him but didn’t ascend back to the box. You continued down the steps until you reached the final landing. You looked up and sat on the lowest stair. A moment of peace before you had to go back. To not think for a single second.
🏰
You listened to the raucous voices of the audience. You didn’t want to move from that spot. You didn’t want to go back to it all. You just wanted to stay on that step forever. But you knew you had to go. You knew you had to get up.
You lifted yourself wearily but your foot only hovered above the bottom stair. You heard more voices, and an angry one as the crowd bang and buzzed. You followed the lower sounds, the singular conversations yelled through the din. You ventured down the tunnel that led beneath the stands.
Horse kicked and snorted as you came into the area meant for competitors. Men sat and stood with blood on brow and lip. Those who’d already lost, many as the final face-off was about to commence. You looked around but did not see Lord Barnes. Perhaps he was on the other side or even looking for you.
You walked the perimeter of the large space and a familiar face caught your eye. Peter rubbed his shoulder as he muttered, his aunt and uncle sat with him as the former checked the cut on his chin. You felt the same stabbing in your chest as the night before. Before you could think, you were marching towards him.
You skidded to a halt before him and gulped. You didn’t know what to say, you only knew how you felt. He looked over at you as May and Benjamin followed his gaze. You wavered and blinked away the tears that threatened.
“I did want to be friends but I stayed away to protect you, Peter,” you said, “did you have to be so cruel?”
“What? I--” he stood and winced as he jarred his shoulder, “I didn’t-- I wasn’t--”
“I know what I am and I know we cannot be friends but could it have hurt to let me think ‘what if’?” You quivered.
“No, my lady, I--”
“You know I’m not a lady. No need to treat me like one now. I heard you last night. I didn’t come to change your mind, I’m not so simple as that. I only came-- well, I don’t know why, but perhaps I only wanted to say to one person how they hurt me. Perhaps I wanted to just once be able to speak my part and that I can do because I know I will never see you again.”
You brushed past him and he reached for your arm as he stammered, “please, don’t, I was l--”
“Don’t,” you shrugged him off and stomped on as the figures around you blurred and the anger and despair swelled in your head.
You followed the noise of the crowd. They were hungry for blood. If that was what they wanted, they would have it.
You pushed out from behind the curtain and the wood and dirt vibrated from the cacophony. You saw Lord Barnes in his saddle as he was handed his pole and his competitor, Lord Rogers, as he took his own. Their attendants checked the horse and took them to their marks.
You quaked as the ocean of voice rolled over you and you crept out along the wall. All were entranced by the two dukes as they readied for their signal. Barnes silver armour was dented and dinged from his former bouts and Rogers golden armour was just as scuffed. The two men steadied their steeds and the crowd fell into a hush of anticipation.
The red cloth dropped and the riders galloped at each other across the field. The hooves dusted up the cold dirt, through blood stains left throughout the day, and the crash that came sent up another cheer through the crowd.
Wooden slivers exploded around Barnes and Rogers was pushed back against his horse as his own shield was deflected. Both men kept astride and righted themselves as they rode back to their posts and again, their liveried attendants approached to calm their horses and fix their dressings.
They would go again and again, until one of them was tossed from their saddle or worse. You began to breathe heavily as you paced along the wall and the lords were handed new shields. You readied and watched the man in gray lift the rag. You began to run before it was even visible to the crowd.
You heard the horses barreling at each other as you did the same. You closed your eyes as you got closer to the lanes and you tossed back your arms as you threw yourself forward. A heavy and hard force hit you and several crushing blows landed across your body as the horse trampled over you and overturned.
You croaked as you were left in the dirt. The eerie silence that followed was void of the bouncing excitement. It was broken only by the screaming of the injured horse and the confused voices of those on the field. You heard that familiar deep groan, of pain, not delight this time.
You rasped and gasped as your chest ached and your bones throbbed. Your limbs were filled with sand and your head pounding. There were shadows all around you as you wheezed and you smiled as you tasted blood on your tongue. You began to laugh as your eyelids drooped and blacked out the arena.
“Don’t move her!” A voice called as someone touched your arm. It was broken, you were sure of it. It didn’t matter, they couldn’t fix you. Not your arm, none of it.
You laughed louder and louder as you heard more footsteps. It was all so funny. You were free! Your eyes rolled back and your mind flickered. Just before the flame gave its last lick, you heard his voice. The gravity of it gave you peace.
“Is she alive? Is she alive!? Help her! Help her!”
Lord Barnes could demand as he did for all he had but in this, he could not be mollified.

A.N Summary bad but I literally couldn’t focus on writing anything else until I finished at least the first chapter of this. let me know what you think, Message/reply/inbox to be tagged.
Chapter 1: 1st Quarter
Hockey wasn’t the sport Bucky wanted to play originally. He wanted to play baseball like his old man but when Steve decided he wanted to take ice skating lessons, he made Bucky tag along so he wouldn’t be the only boy in the class. Soon, they found themselves recruited in the junior rec hockey team and had been playing together ever since. It wasn’t a surprise that when recruitment came around that school’s were trying to pick up both of them. People knew better than to separate Cap from the Winter Soldier. Steve’s nickname was easy to figure out. He had a natural authoritative nature that made him the Captain of almost every team he played on. You never knew why they called Bucky the Winter Soldier until you played against him. Bucky was like an assassin on the ice. While everyone was focused on Steve in Center, Bucky was on left wing scoring the goal before you knew what hit you. So both of them getting recruited to play for the Avengers at Wilmington University wasn’t surprising.
Meeting you was.
At first, it was a sort of form of hazing. When they were starting their Freshman year so was the Coach’s daughter. He had asked senior members of the team to ‘keep an eye on her’ and make sure she didn’t get herself into any trouble. The seniors’ thinking that was lame, were more than happy to pass the task off to the two eager freshmen trying to make a name for themselves. So that’s how it started, The two boys walking you to classes and home from the library late at night, much to your demise.
“I should’ve known my dad was going to do something like this.” You complained when you saw the two boys waiting outside your dorm the first week of classes. “Thanks for coming. But you can tell my dad that I’m not going to be the freak being escorted by hockey jocks everyday.”
“No can do, Doll.” Bucky says. “We leave you, we’re doing drills the rest of practice.”
“Doll? What’re you? A 40s newscaster?” You say, with an annoyed expression walking passed the boys who just followed suit behind you. “Ugh, this is such bullshit. He literally begged me to go to Wilmington and promised I’d be able to have a ‘normal college experience’. What about this is fucking normal?”
“I know it’s less than ideal but hey, we can make the best out of this.” Steve smiles. “I’m Steve, by the way.” He says extending a hand.
You shake it. You couldn’t blame them for your dad not trusting you. “Y/N. You?” You asked the other boy next to you.
“Bucky.” He provides.
“Bucky?” You question.
“Well, it’s James but my friends call me Bucky.”
“And that’s what we are? Friends?” You ask.
“Might as well be, since we’ll be seeing each other a lot this semester.”
And that’s how your semi-unconventional friendship started. Pretty soon, even though your dad had eased up on the 24-hour watch, per your mom's request, you still found yourself walking and getting coffee with the two in the mornings. Even, found yourself waiting in the rinks watching practices so you could hang out afterwards and that became your life for the next two years. Now the three of you we’re entering your Junior year of college. Steve was right back in his title role of Captain, Bucky was now first string Left Wing and you were… still watching from the bleachers. You didn’t mind though, you grew to love the sport due to it being your dad’s profession. Hell, you were on skates before you could even walk. But you never found yourself on the women’s team, Hockey wasn’t something you really wanted to do. You still supported the girls team though, which is why you found yourself watching their practices too.
“Hey, Y/N!” Carol said, skating to the end of the rink where you were sitting next to her girlfriend, Maria. A position you often found yourself in, entertaining player’s girlfriends while they practiced. Maria was cool though, at least you knew about the sport.
“Hey, Marvel.” You called her by her nickname. Thing about Hockey is everyone was called by their nicknames.
“You going to the Sigma Pi party later?” She asks.
“Uh, no one told me about it.” You say, awkwardly.
“I’m telling you now.” Carol says like it's obvious. “You never go out anymore and I refuse to let you become a cat lady before you turn 25. Come over ours at 7, we’ll pregame and head over at 9. What do you say?”
“Fine, I’ll come.” You say.
“Great!” Carol says, pumping a fist before signalling her girlfriend to come closer to the rink. You look away as they kiss. Couples made you uneasy, especially hockey couples. You wanted that more than anything, for your guy to skate up to the gate just to sneak a kiss from you. Not that dating anyone from the team was even an option with you dad coaching. The team saw you as a little sister and if anyone was caught even looking at you in any way, their ass was grass by either your dad or Bucky, who’d become protective of you over the years.
“Marvel, stop flirting with your girlfriend and GET BACK ON THE ICE!” You heard your dad scream.
“Sorry, Couch!” She called. “Sorry, baby i’ve gotta jet. Y/N, don’t forget. 7 o’clock!” She says before skating off.
“I won’t!” You call after her.
---------------------------------------------------------
You can’t help but look at yourself in the mirror awkwardly at the tight Satin dress your roommate, Wanda practically forced you in. You were just going to wear a sweater and jeans, your regular wardrobe but Wanda insisted everyone had seen you in that and what they haven’t seen is you in a dress. Especially, with your new body, you had gotten over the summer working at a sports camp. Who knew running after kids would be such a great form of exercise?
Wanda also did your makeup, something you didn’t typically wear, giving you a natural glow eye, a layer of mascara, and sticky gloss that made your look ‘dewy’ as Wanda described it. You tried to keep your hair in the bun but Wanda insisted you keep your hair down. Saying it made you look hotter, you shrugged knowing you’d have to take her word for it.
The two of you made your way to Carol and Maria’s apartment. Carol swung the door open and looked at you in surprise. “Woah, Ice Baby, you clean up nice.”
“Don’t start, Marvel. And you know how I feel about being called that.” You hated the nickname but since you were the coach’s daughter and you stuck around the rink any chance you got, The seniors had started calling you Ice Baby your freshman year and the nickname unfortunately stuck long after they had gone.
“Right, sorry, I always forget.” Carol said moving out the way for the two of you to come in.
The four of you drink and play games until it’s time to head to the party. You’ve got a pretty strong buzz going as you enter the party and you regret the strappy heels Maria made you borrow before leaving. You’re sitting in the corner when someone comes to sit way too close to you. You look up to see Brock Rumlow, or Rum as the team liked to call him.
“I almost didn’t recognize you, Ice Baby. You look good.”
“My name is Y/N but thank you.” You say, annoyed.
He holds his hands up in mock surrender “I forgot you hate that nickname. Let me bring you a drink to make up for it. What you want.”
“Rum and coke, please.”
“Oh, so you like Rum?” He says, obvious double entendre hanging off his tongue.
“The drink? Yes.”
“You’ll like the man soon enough.” He winks, smirking at the flush that spreads across your cheeks.
The two of you spend the night like that. He brings you drinks and shamelessly flirts with you as you get drunker and drunker. The two of you even dance for a bit in the sea of grinding bodies. Soon you’re telling him a story and a hand drifts to your leg. You turn and he’s much closer to your face than you thought he was.
“Wanna get out of here?” He asks. You nod but before you can even stand, Bucky is there towering over Brock.
“You can leave, Brock. But I’m taking Y/N home.” He says.
Brock rolls his eyes. “Forgot you had a Winter Soldier guard dog. No worries, dude. I’m leaving anyway.” He says, before turning to you. “You’ve got my number, call me if you wanna hang this week.” He says, nodding to Bucky before walking away.
“Ugh, Bucky. What was that for?” You whine, drunkenly.
“You’re drunk. I’m taking you home.” Bucky says. “Come on, stand up.”
You shakingly get up and Buck is there immediately under your arm, his arm around your waist helping you walk out.
The cold breeze hits you as soon as you step foot out the party and take the long trek home.
“I think I drank too much.” You point out.
“You think, kid?” Bucky says. “You’re lucky, I was here meeting Sharon otherwise you would’ve been shit out of luck.”
“Brock would’ve taken me home.”
“Brock’s a lowlife. Don’t worry about him, I’ve got you.”
You sigh. “Sorry for ruining your night with your girlfriend.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll call her when I make sure you get home so if you could pick up the pace.”
“My feet hurt.” You complain.
“Yea, I bet. God, when did you start wearing heels, Doll?”
“I wanted to look good tonight.” You sigh.
“You always look good.”
“Fine, I wanted to look hot.” You provide. “For once, I wanted to be the one guys paid attention to at parties.”
“You can be yourself for that, Y/N.” Bucky says. “You’re a catch.”
“If I was, someone would’ve fucked me by now.” You drunkenly admit. That makes Bucky double-take. “I mean, think about it? 3 years into my college career, I turn 21 in a couple months and still it's where no man’s gone before down there.”
“Y/N, are you saying you’re--”
“A virgin? Yea, Bucky catch up.” You groan at the pain in your feet. Bucky looks and takes sympathy on you.
“Here take off your shoes.” He says, toeing his off as well and sliding them over to you.
“You’re just going to walk barefoot?” You ask, putting on the shoes, holding your heels in your hand.
“Better than you walking barefoot.” He shrugs.
“Anyway, I decided over the summer that maybe I was putting too much thought into it. I mean almost everyone loses their virginity in high school and it's never good, no one ever says their first time was good. I just thought maybe I should just, you know, get it over with.” You slur. “Which is what I was trying to do until you chased my date away. God, you always do that, Bucky.”
“I’m not fighting with you while you’re drunk.” Bucky says, trying to get you to drop the subject but you persist.
“Every time I try to talk to a guy, you butt in--”
“Maybe I wouldn’t butt in if you picked the right guys for you.”
“There’s nothing wrong with the guys I pick! You’re just a cockblock.”
“That’s not true.”
“Yea what about Charles? He asked me on a date freshman year and took it back not even an hour later. I had to beg Steve to tell me why and it turned out that you threatened him if he even thought about going out with me.”
“Y/N, you had just turned 18 and X was a 24 year old senior! I didn’t trust how he was just waiting. So yea, I told him to fuck off. And Rum is an asshole who can’t get a girl to sleep with him unless they’re shitfaced. So yea, I told him to fuck off.” Bucky exclaims as the two of you make it up the stairs to your apartment. “Y/N, you’ll find someone right for you and that right person will make your first time special. I just want you to find someone who’ll make you happy.”
“And I just want you to remember for next time that if you want to tell a girl who she can and can’t fuck, you have Sharon for that. Not me.” You said, taking off the shoes as you arrived at your front door.
“Y/N, wait--” You hear him say but you don’t care, you slam the door in his face regardless.
Who did Bucky think he was? Sure, he was your best friend but so was Steve and he’s not nearly as protective as Bucky was. You honestly couldn’t tell who was worse at this point, your dad or Bucky. You loved both of them but they had the fatal flaw of forgetting you weren’t a kid. You were a woman, a woman with needs. And one particular need you needed to get rid of.
So you picked up your phone and called Brock. Bucky couldn’t be right about everything.

WAIT I DIDNT KNOW YOU SHIPPED SAMTONY TOO!!! another oneeee #13 "I saw you looking at it last time we were in the store together, so I got it for you." for samtony
samtony is a very pure ship 😌 thank you for sending a prompt, and I hope you like it!
It starts on a perfectly average Tuesday morning.
“Why do I do this to myself?” Sam pants out, folding himself in half with his hands on his knees. “Every damn time I say it's the last time, and every damn time here we are again.”
Bucky claps a hand on his back and almost knocks him over with one touch. “Maybe you're a masochist, Sammy.”
Sam feebly flips him off, walking off the elevator on jelly legs. “I told you not to call me that.”
“You let Tony call you that,” Bucky points out, following him towards the kitchen.
"I actually like him. We're friends."
“That's offensive. I'm literally your best friend. Your favorite person. The Abbott to your Costello. The Tom to your Jerry. The Lucy to your Ethel.”
Sam snorts, “You're not even my favorite hundred year old man in this building. Also, if anyone’s the Lucy here, it’s me.”
Bucky scoffs, but whatever retort he had coming cuts off when they enter the kitchen. “Oh, damn, are those banana pancakes?”
He reaches for one on the top of the stack, and Tony slaps his hand away with the spatula. “Where are your manners, Barnes?”
“You’ve got like ten there,” Bucky whines. “Why can’t I have one?”
“You can have one when it’s your turn.”
Bucky gives him a dramatic pout that has no effect, and Sam laughs at the scene as he collapses into the stool next to Nat at the peninsula. She gives him a raised eyebrow and a quirked lip at the complete lack of grace.
Tony flits through the kitchen, exchanging lighthearted quips with Bucky as he goes. He has on an apron that Clint gave him at Christmas last year, covered in snowflakes and purple hearts with arrows through them in a mimicry of an ugly Christmas sweater pattern. Underneath it is a t-shirt dotted with Captain America shields, and the sweatpants have a cartoon version of the War Machine suit on the thigh. As usual, all of the colors clash.
A mug of coffee is placed in front of Sam with a small smile before Tony returns to the stove, and Sam is still drinking the first sip when he comes back with a plate of pancakes for him, topped with just the right amount of syrup and a dollop of whipped cream. Tony’s gone again before he can even finish saying thank you.
“Why is it his turn before me?” Bucky complains, and Sam laughs again through his first mouthful at how petulant he sounds.
“I like him the best,” Tony says, sending a wink Sam’s way. “And they’re for him, anyway. Your favorite, right?”
Sam’s eyes widen a bit in surprise. He doesn’t remember telling him that. “Uh, yeah, they are. How’d you know that?”
Tony shrugs, “I pay attention.”
He hands Bucky a plate of pancakes with another jab at his lack of patience, and the moment passes as quickly as it came, but it keeps happening after that.
Tony pays attention to him.
Maybe it was happening all along, before that morning with the pancakes, but just too subtle for Sam to take notice at first. Now that he has, though, he sees it all the time.
The next is just a few days later, when Tony knocks on his door holding a small, nondescript black box.
“What’s this for?” Sam asks, taking it from Tony’s hand. He doesn’t get an answer before he opens the lid to a simple, leather-banded watch. It’s nothing overtly expensive, nothing that screams ‘gift from a billionaire,’ but it is exactly something Sam would have chosen for himself.
“I saw you looking at it last time we were in the store together, so I got it for you,” Tony says simply. “Figured it would go well with that suit Pepper picked for you for the gala tomorrow night.”
Later, Sam will realize that Pepper had nothing to do with the suit choice that fit him perfectly, but for now he runs a thumb over the dark brown leather and says, “Yeah, it will. Thanks, Tony.”
“No problem,” Tony replies, and he lingers in the doorway for a while longer, lower lip between his teeth. Sam is about to ask if there was something else he came here for when Tony claps his hands together and says, “Well, I should get going. Workshop things to do and all that. I’ll see you at dinner.”
He disappears quickly, and that becomes part of it, too. Never dwelling on it when he does something just for Sam. Fleeing if he can, but sometimes staying when that’s what Sam needs instead.
“You look exhausted,” Tony says, and Sam manages a grumble from where he’s slumped on the living room couch, rubbing a hand over his bruised abdomen.
The mission took longer than either him or Bucky expected, and the fights were more intense. It was supposed to be a quick in-and-out type of deal. Infiltrate the base, take out the lower level minions, and apprehend the leaders. But the intel wasn’t as accurate as they were hoping, and there were nearly double the number of enemies than predicted. No major injuries for either of them, but he’ll be sore for at least a few days. Bucky’s cuts and bruises healed on the way home.
Sam doesn’t notice that Tony left until he comes back with ice wrapped in a kitchen towel. He places the ice right on the worst spot over his ribs, holding it there until Sam replaces his hand with his own.
“It’s getting pretty late,” Tony remarks. “You should probably head up to bed. You’ll feel even worse if you fall asleep here, trust me on that one.”
It’s somewhere past midnight, Sam knows, but even with how tired his body is, his mind is still wide awake. The mission replays in his mind. Every faulty move, every chance to do better, every little detail both good and bad.
Sam shakes his head, “Not ready for bed yet.”
Tony takes the seat next to him, leaving an inch of space between them. “J, turn on the Saints game from yesterday.”
Sam smiles a little and asks, “Do you even like football?”
“It’s not the worst sport,” Tony replies vaguely. He settles back into the cushions and pulls the blanket off the back of the couch to cover them both.
“Yeah, what’s the best?”
Completely serious, Tony says, “Ping pong.”
Sam laughs, “That’s not a real sport. Pick something else.”
“Of course it’s real. It’s in the Olympics and everything,” Tony grins. “Give me one good reason it’s not a sport.”
“Alright, fine, maybe it’s real, but there’s no way it’s your favorite.”
Tony shrugs, “It’s entertaining sometimes. The professionals get really into it. There’s an awful lot of grunting involved.”
They stay up for a while longer, talking about nothing of importance, and Tony slowly shifts closer to him until that bit of distance is gone. His arm presses up against him, and Sam starts to have a hard time keeping his eyes open, it seems only natural to rest his head against Tony’s shoulder.
“You can go to bed,” Sam murmurs. “You don’t have to stay here with me.”
“I don’t mind,” Tony whispers back.
Sam does regret it a bit when he wakes up on the couch in the morning with a sore back, but there’s a fresh mug of coffee already waiting for him on the table, still warm and exactly how he likes it, and he smiles to himself anyway. That night is a shift to something different, and he knows it right away.
He starts to pay more attention to Tony’s interactions with everyone else, just in case he’s part of the rule and not the exception. Generosity is one of Tony’s best traits, but even so it tends to extend even further to him. More personal and frequent.
“So there’s this place in Brooklyn that claims to have the most authentic cajun cuisine outside of New Orleans. Want to come with me? Tell me if it’s true?”
It isn’t true, and Tony comes to him the next day with another one, until they’re on a quest together to find one that doesn’t make Sam miss home after just one bite. It takes them all over the city and into Jersey once or twice, and Sam doesn’t point out that Tony doesn’t even seem to like crawfish, no matter where it comes from. He doesn’t want it to be over if he does.
“This is pretty close,” Sam says. He thinks it might be place number eleven, but he lost count a while back. “Could use a little more spice, but at least they didn’t try to add their own spin to it.”
Tony’s watery eyes widen. “This isn’t spicy enough for you?”
Sam grins and shakes his head. “Remind me to bring you with me the next time I go home. You won’t know what hit you.”
Tony’s face does something complicated at that, before it settles on a soft smile. “Yeah, that would be fun.”
Sam fully gets it then, what exactly it all means, but he doesn’t quite know what he wants to do about it yet. Tony has taken up residence in a place in his heart that he wasn’t sure was capable of opening up anymore. He did it so easily, sneaking in like a thief in the night and catching Sam unaware.
Now the sound of Tony’s laugh makes his stomach flip. He seeks it out, telling him stupid stories and jokes to make it happen more. He stares a little too much to catch glimpses of his smile, and now he can see just how often Tony looks back.
It isn’t subtle anymore, this thing between them. Lingering looks, too long touches, and every quiet gesture all build up. Bucky teases him and Natasha gives him knowing looks. Steve tells him that he hopes they make each other happy, and Sam doesn’t tell him that nothing has happened between them like that. They’re still just friends, and they don’t talk about what any of it means.
“Do you want to see a movie with me tonight? There’s that weird one with the killer robots playing downtown,” Sam suggests, and neither of them say anything when Tony slips his hand into his in the darkness of the theater. It goes unmentioned, too, when Sam holds tight after Tony almost lets go when they reach the sidewalk afterwards.
It’s another late night when the last piece finally falls into place.
Sam is nursing bruised ribs again after another mission that turned a little sideways through no one’s fault. He’s still sweaty, dirt under his fingernails and dried blood caked around a shallow cut on his cheek, but Sam still asks JARVIS in the elevator to take him to wherever Tony is. It isn’t as surprising as it should be that Tony is waiting for him on the edge of Sam’s bed.
He stands there patiently while Tony looks him over, and he looks his fill in return. It’s strange how days away from him feel longer now. His balance is off center until Tony is around to set him right again.
“I missed you,” Sam murmurs, and Tony smiles softly.
“You were only gone a couple of days,” he points out, but Sam knows now that it’s his way of saying that he missed him just as much.
Normally, Sam would let it move on from here. Tony would lead him into the bathroom, gently clean up his scrapes, and click his tongue at every bruise. It would end with them on the couch, Sam’s head in Tony’s lap or vice versa, depending on what mood it takes. Sometimes he wants to hold Tony and remember that he survived another fight so he could come home to this, and sometimes he needs to be held to forget about everything else that was lost along the way.
But tonight he reaches out to grasp Tony’s hip, and he draws him in a little closer. The room is dimly lit, and each shadow on Tony’s face is accentuated. Sam can’t remember quite the first time he looked at him and thought the word ‘beautiful,’ but it’s all he’s thinking now.
“You love me,” Sam says. “For a long time now, right?”
Tony nods, and he wraps his arms around Sam’s waist, careful not to hold too tight. “You caught up eventually. Didn’t take as long as I thought it would.”
Sam smiles, cupping Tony’s face in one palm and stroking his thumb across his cheekbone. “How long were you expecting?”
“Maybe never,” Tony admits. “I would’ve kept trying, though.”
“Stay with me tonight?” Sam asks, because nothing more needs to be said for now. They both already know.
“How about every night?”
Sam leans in slowly, murmuring against his lips, “Sounds like a plan.”

Nicknames
A/N: I didn’t include all actors/characters but if you want one just send it in and I’ll do it. I’ll start including these in my writing
~~~~~~
Here are some nicknames that each of the reader’s have been given
Sebastian Stan “prinţesă”
-Obviously, its Romanian
-There were a few he tried out with you when you were younger but this one stuck for multiple reasons:
-You were a major daddy’s girl (still are) and you pretty much got anything you wanted. You were almost on the verge of spoiled brat
-It also didn’t help that you had a very huge liking for Disney and it’s princesses
-Those dresses with the matching shoes? You had almost all of them
-He called you that until you grew out of your princess obsession, saving it for certain times
-The first time you ended a long term friendship was the first time he used it in years. He’d either call you by your name or something more generic like “Sweetheart”
-You came home visibly upset and ran right into your dad’s arms
-You’d never been this upset before so he said it, hoping in some way it would calm you down
“It’s alright Prinţesă, I’ve got you”
-When it worked that time, he did it again after your first break up.
-You were more angry than sad this time
-He had to hold you down on the couch so you couldn’t hurt anyone
“Prinţesă, calm down. He’s not worth a criminal record
-He used it on days when you were sick or were feeling down
-Maybe even if you were in trouble
-You and him both thought by the age of sixteen, you would hate the nickname but surprisingly, you liked it even more
Chris Evans “peanut”
-Another case of daddy’s girl
-This one comes from several trips to Red Sox’s games
-Chris wanted to get you into sports when you were young (just to watch, not necessarily to play)
-He took you and Scott to one of the first games of the season and he bought peanuts, in his true American way
-You were seated in between him and Scott
-Both of them were sharing the bag while you had ice cream
-Peanuts were a new food for you and you wanted to try them. You grabbed a handful of them and copied your dad’s movements to crack open the shells
-You ate like twenty in less than a minute
-You loved them so much and that’s how that name happened
-Unlike the others, Chris uses this name pretty regularly
-You didn’t mind how often he used it until he started using it on front of your friends
“Hey peanut, do you guys need anything?”
“Dad! That’s embarrassing”
-Your face went bright red and for the rest of the day, your friends teased you (in a loving, joking way)
-Chris realized his small mistake and was a little more careful about when he used it
-Scott called you it once and you swear, you never saw your dad move so quickly
“She’s my peanut, not yours. Find your own nickname”
-Anytime he posts a picture of you on Twitter/Instagram, he used that name instead of your own
Matthew Gray Gubler “munchkin”
-Three words
-Wizard. Of. Oz.
-You had a very weird obsession with this movie. It’s almost embarrassing looking back at it now
-By the time you were three, you knew all the words (as best as you could) to all the songs
-Matthew was about to lose his mind because he had the songs in his head as well, twenty-four-seven.
-You would talk and talk about how much you wanted to go to Munchkin land and be a Munchkin
-It also didn’t help that at the time, you were probably close to the same height
-Sadly, as you got older, you and your dad learned you didn’t develop his height
-You were a whopping 5’2 at the age of fifteen
-And the name stuck
-He knew you weren’t super fond of the name but somehow, it always cheered you up
-If you had a tough day at school, he’d sit on the couch and let you vent
“Let it all out Munchkin”
-You secretly did like the name (even though the origins were embarrassing)
-Matthew never let you live down that obsession
-When you were on set and he called you that, everyone asked why.
“Matthew, why do you call her Munchkin?”
“Dad, don’t do it”
“She was obsessed with The Wizard of Oz”
-He also very rarely referred to you as “Y/n” on social media, opting for Munchkin instead
-Trying to get back at him, you tried to come up with some ridiculous name for him
“I’m going to call you dancer. Cause that’s how you broke your knee”
-That one didn’t last long but Munchkin sure did
Tom Holland “bubs or darling”
-Tom gets two because I can’t pick
-Bubs is because you are the baby out of all of the brothers
-It was also because before you could say any brother’s name, you just called them bubs
-Sam, Harry, and Paddy also called you Bubs. They still call you that sometimes so Tom wanted to try something new
-When you were about five or six, he accidentally called you darling
-It wasn’t a typical brother/sister name but it suited you
-You were such a kind person and your favorite movie to watch with Tom was Peter Pan
-And the last name of Wendy was Darling, so he thought it fitted
-When he called you darling, it was mostly after he came home from filming
“I missed you so much Darling”
-You liked the meaning behind your nickname
-Tom used Bubs if you weren’t feeling like yourself
-Whether it was a bad day or if you were sick
“Take some medicine Bubs” or “Bubs, tell me what’s going on”
-He hated the others calling him Tommy but for you, he’d let you do it anytime you wanted
-Literally, you were the only person he let you call him Tommy
-But he was the only person who could call you Darling
Bucky Barnes “doll”
-Classic
-This one is pretty self explanatory
-It was common during your childhood but once you were in the 21st century, Bucky couldn’t part with it
-It reminded him of the past (in a good way) and he always wanted to relive those memories
-You were eight when HYDRA took him and then you
-The name reminded him of when you were little, and it reminded you too
-While Bucky was in Wakanda, he’d send you letters once he woke up
“Hey Doll, I miss you so much. Hopefully we can see each other soon”
-You kept them all with you
-And when The Snap happened, you’d read those letters back to yourself everyday
“The sunset was really pretty today Doll, it reminded me of the ones from when you were little”
-After those five years, that was the first thing he said to you
“I’m glad you’re safe Doll”
-It only took one time for Sam to tease you about it before you threatened to hurt him
“You make fun of it one more time and I swear it’ll be the last”
-Sam didn’t really understand why that name meant so much to you
-Bucky had to explain it to him
-It was really one of the only things you had left of your childhood
-And it was the one thing you could hold onto for the rest of your life
Ransom Drysdale “princess”
-Again, I think this one is self explanatory and obvious
-You’re spoiled, no doubt about it
-The name actually came from Meg
-She was a few years older than you and she was so used to being the only girl in the family
-And now she had to deal with you
-The reason she called you that was pretty stupid in the first place but as an eight year old, it didn’t matter to her
-You had spilled your drink on her by accident and onto her new shoes
-She went red in the face and started screaming in your face. You burst into tears
-You were only four and Ransom had never raised his voice at you. It was a new experience for you
-All the adults came into the room and walked into the scene of Meg screaming and you crying
-Ransom scooped you up and told Meg off
-Of course Joni took her daughter’s side but no one else did, making her mad
“She never gets in trouble. She’s such a princess”
-After that incident, your dad only used that name just to piss everyone off
-Like there was no need for him to but he just did it
“Princess, come here”
-In general, Ransom liked to show you off and the nickname Princess was the best way to do that
-As you got older, he felt weird using it. Meg had finally gotten over herself and everyone accepted the fact that your dad was spoiling you rotten
-You didn’t need a name to show that
-But as you got older, the issues in the family and all the problems started to weigh down on you
-There was so much drama that happened at family dinners, you were completely drained and exhausted once you got home
-Ransom could tell something was up so he reached into his bag of good parenting skills (which he definitely had, which shocked everyone) and called you Princess for the first time in ten years
“Princess, please tell me what’s wrong”
-For some reason, that one name made everything better for you
-Ransom noticed the small improvement in your mood so he kept calling you that on the daily
“How was school today Princess?”
-And in front of the family again
“Princess, it’s time to go”
-This name was literally just used to show the other Thrombey’s that you and your dad were better than them
-Of course though, you didn’t need a nickname to see that
Spencer Reid “squirt”
-Another name based on an obsession
-But this one can be blamed on Garcia
-While Spencer was on a case one time, she was in charge of watching you
-To keep you entertained while at the BAU, she put on Finding Nemo
-That was a mistake
-From that point on, you had a weird fascination with sea turtles, because of Squirt
-Once Spencer got back, you would not shut up about turtles
“Daddy, look what I just read”
-He was glad you found something you were interested in. He sort of hoped you would find something closer to a more “normal” topic but he would never stop you from learning
-Spencer wasn’t sure how the name fell onto you but once it did, he didn’t stop using it
-He generally used it in the apartment with just you and him
“Squirt, can you pick your toys up for me?” or as you were older “Squirt, can you grab those books for me?”
-He used it a lot when you felt stressed and you weren’t telling him
-So whenever he called you that, you knew you might as well tell him
“Tell me what’s going on Squirt”
-It was such a small gesture but it really did help you
-He tried to explain why it probably made you feel better but you weren’t too interested in the science behind it
-The only time he used it in front of the team is when he got back from a case
-You always met him at the BAU (he made sure you were there to greet him)
-You would stand in front of the elevator and wait for the doors to open
-And when they did, you ran into his arms and he wrapped them around your body
“I missed you Squirt”
-The team absolutely adored that nickname but knew to never call you that, unless they wanted an angry Reid on their hands
Emily Prentiss “love”
-To me, Emily just has European vibes and so does this nickname
-Probably because Emily grew up in Europe, she developed this habit of calling you Love
-The parents of her friends growing up used that name
-She sort of just picked up on it, starting when she first held you in the hospital
“Hi Love, I’m your momma”
-It’s such a simple but meaningful name to her
-You were truly the one person she loved the most (even her mom and even Sergio)
-Speaking of, once she brought Sergio home you started calling him that as well
-You were only four and didn’t understand the concept but Emily didn’t stop you
“Hi Wove”
-Emily never used this in front of people unless something was wrong
-As you got older, it was used more as a reassurance for you
-Her “death” was really hard on you and every case, she would check in
-Lots of the time, the phone calls were short and around the other members of the team
“Hi Love, I miss you. The team says hi”
“I miss you too momma”
-Very rarely would she use it in normal, everyday conversation
-If you were visiting the office, sometimes it would slip out
“Hey Love, are you doing your homework?”
-In front of the team, she used names like “baby” or “honey”
-Love was strictly reserved for just you and her
Jennifer Jareau “bug”
-First thing to know
-If anyone besides JJ called you Bug, even Will, she would literally rip their heads off
-This name was super personal to her and she didn’t want the meaning to be ruined
-You had taken after her love and fascination with butterflies
-Except you hadn’t learned the word butterfly so you just called them bugs, hence the nickname
-JJ only called you two things “Y/n” and “Bug”
-Nothing else
-At one point, Will was convinced that she might’ve forgotten your first name because she called you Bug so much
“JJ, she has a first name you know”
“I know, I think Bug fits her better”
-She did attempt to get your name changed, but to be fair, she was drunk when that happened
-She didn’t care that as you got older, the name was a little embarrassing, especially around your friends
“I’ll pick you up at seven Bug”
“Mom! Really? In front of my friends?”
-Your brothers for awhile thought your name was Bug, because she really only called you that at home
“Do you need help with your homework Bug?” or “Bug, can you set the table?”
-You didn’t realize the meaning behind the nickname until she explained it to you
-And once you did, the name meant so much more to you
-Will helped you pick out a matching necklace set of two butterflies
-You gave it to her after a case and she cried, knowing exactly what it’s meaning was
“Thank you Bug, I love it”
-She never took that necklace off, ever
PUZZLE - BUCKY BARNES
prompt: reader does a puzzle with bucky to pass some time words: 787 warnings: fluff notes: female reader
A power outage probably wasn’t the worst thing that could happen but it was an inconvenience to say the least. His apartment was enveloped in darkness but a tinge of cold indigo from the night sky that slithered through the thin curtains, fluttering slightly from the open window. The light was cosy and tranquil. Naturally, he silently emerged from the cabinet he’d been rummaging through and stood blankly with a disintegrated cardboard box with its imagery peeling off. “We can do this to pass some time,” he suggested with a rigid smile as he stared down at you, buried beneath a few blankets on the couch almost wedged between its cushions.
“What is it? I can’t see,” you whispered in an attempt to not disturb the quietude before he shook the box as all the cardboard pieces rocked back and forth, resulting in consecutive tumultuous thuds as they thrusted towards either side of the case. “It’s a jigsaw,” he excitedly answered then watched you nod in approval which only made his smile grow wider. It came as a surprise to many but he really did love puzzles, mainly for the nostalgia but partly because it made his brain work and it was distracting.
Bucky ambled towards the dining table and gently placed the box down as if he’d slammed it, it would have collapsed in on itself. He seated himself and began to remove the lid, “you coming or are you just going to watch?” he softly jested with a smirk as he noticed that you hadn’t budged from your blanketed nest, “I’m too tired to move,” you admitted and yet despite it being dark, you could still see him jokingly roll his eyes as he pulled himself up from the dining chair with an almost inaudible groan before meandering towards you with a smile. The muscles along his legs and back were noticeably more defined in the darkness, his whole body flexed and on display as he wore nothing but some black sports shorts and his dog tags dangling from his neck.
“You’re lucky I like having you in my arms,” he tenderly spoke with a rasp, scooping you up and clutching your body close to his. You simply replied with nothing but a giddy laugh as you rested your neck in the nook of his forearm and bicep, staring up at him intently. Bucky would often feel diffident when he’d catch you admiring him so you’d have to steal a glance when he was unaware.
He sat you down on his lap as he seated himself once more, holding you tightly with his nonmetal arm because he enjoyed the physical sensation of your contact which he would never be able to obtain through his vibranium shell of an arm. Since you were now able to get a closer look, your eyes immediately noticed the dilapidated state of the box and you chuckled, “did you keep this growing up?” Bucky gently laughed, “you’re a comedian.”
The pair of you eventually worked your way through most of the puzzle whilst Bucky let his head rest on your shoulder for the majority of the problem solving. His soft breaths beside your ear were comforting and not disruptive. His hands were always resting on a part of your waist or your thigh. Bucky isn’t clingy but he definitely savours every single moment he has with you, and your company deeply satisfies him.
“See, I told you it would be easier if we started with the corner pieces,” you smugly retorted with a smirk as you picked up the pace from a straggled beginning. “You did, doll,” he tenderly kissed your shoulder as he just held you, your presence being more entertaining and enjoyable to him than the puzzle in front.
A sharp inhale billowed through your parted lips as you stared down at the half complete puzzle and it’s pieces, Bucky’s grasp tightened and he pulled you closer to his chest before a speedy slew of concerned questions darted from his mouth.
“There’s a piece missing,” you dryly spoke with disappointment, slumping back into Bucky’s torso. You juddered slightly from his contracting stomach as he laughed. “I’m sorry,” he sympathetically spoke, “I can try and find another one.” “No,” you cooed which was accompanied by a yawn, “I should probably go to sleep soon,” you admitted as the sudden wave of drowsiness hit you, you’d managed to fight it off whilst being concentrated but now with no motivation left it won you over. “Come on then, doll. Let’s get you to bed.” He uttered with a delicate kiss to your shoulder once more.
