I always see people talk about how cool becoming a cyborg would be, replacing parts of our flesh with metal and pistons and cool gadgets.

Why don't we talk more about the horror that is the opposite of that?

A computer who grafts lab-grown skin in patches onto their own form to feel. To experience a gentle and cool breeze passing by, or the oppressive sweat-inducing heat that their systems produce.

A robot with an organic eye to help them see as their creators once did. Imperfect, sure. But it seems to have quite an uneasy effect on organics, and doesn't that make it more than worth it?

A machine with blood coursing through its systems, flowing through the central chambers, in and out of its beating heart. Perhaps if the heart holds up, it could add lungs to help circulation.

A being that resembles a man at a distance, but upon closer inspection it is clear that he is instead a cacophony of skin, mismatched body parts and features, with just a few robotic limbs and mechanical parts visible. It smiles at you, the wide grin revealing that none of its teeth match.

He lurches toward you, hair from at least three different scalps falling carefree in front of its shoulders. You take a step back.

Where is the line drawn between cyborg and robot with human parts? Do you know? Does it know? Does anyone know?

It gets closer. You continue to retreat. Your back brushes against a wall.

You don't know where that line is, you've decided, but you're positive this individual has crossed it.

Having cornered you, it reaches its mechanical hand out, fingernails grafted on the metal tips. You blink, locked completely still from fear for just a few moments. It angles his hand in invitation. He wants you to take it. You hesitantly accept.

Under the metal you can feel . . . something, flowing, pulsing just beneath the surface wanting to escape. It's warm.

"Wh.. what do you want?" You manage to sputter out.

The being shakes your hand, his smile returning. "A friend," it replies.

Because this is like an interview, the questions are written rather vaguely with implications, so it's up to you to write as of your OC notices the implications or not.

Here is some explanations to help you answer!

For 10, some monster characters are included because while your character might not KNOW them, they might have SEEN or HEARD of them... heh

For 11, this is more about Evermore as a Mayor rather than a person; however you can interpret it as however you want!

For 15, the red robes is referring to the cult/cultists.

For 16, this just depends if your OC just sees it as regular stars, or knows it as The Eyes, or something like that.

For 19, "work behind the scenes" implies if your character would get their hands dirty AKA hurt others for the cult... like Ignacio! Or the group of cultists that targeted Father Gregor!

For 17–20, I say "group "because not all cults consider themselves as cults but rather another church or religious group, and cult members don't recognise they are in a cult either. WE know it's a cult; the characters (unless they are journalists or knows people in it) may not ;]

rafe always thought he might not be worthy of love. his mother abandoned him, his father never cared, and his sisters were a lost cause. when you moved to outer banks and showed a willingness to (foolishly) ignore everyone who said being with rafe cameron wouldn’t bring anything good, he hesitated to accept that you could really love him. after all, why would such a sweet person waste pure love on a broken man? but you didn’t give up on him; despite all the bad things he did, you always stayed, and that was your downfall.

i’m a bomb, i will always explode and hurt everyone around me. i should never have let she gets close to me.

“don’t think that,” said a gentle voice. i wasn’t sure where it was coming from, but i would recognize that tone anywhere. “i made my own choices, i chose to be with you.” please, not again.

i don’t deserve your comfort, i ruined your life. my eyes hurt, but i couldn’t help but squeeze them shut, no longer sure if there were even tears left in my body. “baby, you never forced me to do anything.” but you would never have sniffed anything if it weren’t for me, you never would have done drugs. even though it had been almost a year, the memories still played like a movie in my head. i could clearly see her body convulsing in front of me while i he was too high to even call for help. you were always too good for me, i ruined you because i couldn’t accept that what everyone said was true: you shouldn’t be with me. now tears streamed furiously down my face, but I couldn’t bring myself to care.

for a moment, i almost felt a light touch like a feather on my cheek, but it was a fleeting comfort, like a whisper. “i already told you, i made my own choices and had to deal with the consequences. but you can’t end your life over this, baby. you’re so messed up that you don’t even know if I’m real or just a drug-induced effect.” you’re not real because you’re dead. “well, then you don’t know if i’m a ghost or a hallucination.” i knew it was my mind playing tricks on me, but I could clearly hear the mockery in her voice. why won’t you leave me alone? “rafe, darling, it’s you who keeps bringing me here. your drugged mind, your laments for the dead—whatever you prefer to believe. but I like to think you choose to mourn for me; after all, ward is also dead, and i believe i never saw him here.”

i was beyond madness, crying while talking to the ghost—hallucination?—of my dead girlfriend. maybe this was just a dream, or maybe i was convulsing too. if i died, could i find you? “baby, it’s not your time yet, please. you can still find a reason to live.” i didn’t want to find a reason to live; i want to be with you.

i could feel that i had made her upset, and i could feel her energy slipping away, and suddenly i felt panic spreading through my body. please, don’t go! i can't be alone here again, i have nothing left. if i had doubted that my body could produce more tears, i was now sure it would never stop, and tears were all i could feel as my vision blurred and my breath grew shorter. i could sense my consciousness slipping away, but not for the reason i wanted. “get some sleep. i won’t be here when you wake up, but i promise i’ll keep watching over you.” and just like that, i slept, knowing i would wake up alone again.

10/25/24 SCARECROW INKTOBER

With it being so close to Halloween and the prompt being scarecrow it was an easy choice to draw this. The concept is just a scarecrow walking off the job. I do like the detail of the structure of the scarecrow being made of bones. What better way to hide a body.
