Entry 1: The Evening Gathering

Hey guys, welcome to the first post on "From Rituals to Revelations: An Evening Together." Last night was pretty wild. We had this little get-together under the stars. Picture this: flickering lights, whispers, and a breeze that just made everything feel kinda magical. Someone told me to come closer, to step into the light. I hesitated for a sec but then thought, why not?

"Should I try it?" I asked, feeling the weight of that decision. "Yes, try it. Flip it back," they said. We all laughed as I twirled around, blending spontaneity with some weird ritual. We even snapped a few pics—those moments we’d later look back on, dissecting every detail.

At one point, I almost kicked a stone, but then decided not to. The dance continued, our feet tracing these old patterns. "You could dance forever," someone said. "But would you ever leave?" Good question.

After arriving in Bajawa, I checked in at my homestay and was immediately invited to a wedding party the same night 💍 Not that I would carry a proper wedding outfit in my backpack, but for logistical reasons, I just took a small bag with a few hiking clothes to Bajawa and left my big bag in Labuan Bajo. Since I didn’t even have a “neutral” outfit, Christian, my host, was kind enough to borrow me some jeans of his wife (his were too skinny), which however were very short and too big around my waist, plus it was a used-look kinda version👖🤦‍♂️Even though I didn’t feel comfortable at all wearing such a casual outfit to a wedding, Christian finally convinced me and made me and another guest join him to the party... It was by far the biggest wedding I have ever been to - probably more than 400 people gathered in a huge tent. This is a photo I took when I was in Costa Rica. After a rather soggy nightwalk, we wandered back to our bungalow when we spotted something in plants by our porch. Nick is brilliant with a camera so I threw mine at him to get a shot. I thought I'd see what I could do with his phone and I ended up with this. I'm no @gourmetbiologist but I'm pretty happy with it! We've been going through our photos from the trip and it's mind-blowing how much we saw and did in such a short time.
