An analysis of the trio of light, their emotions and their cards from book 7

WARNINGS: bias, overthinking, yapping, delulu, spoilers from book 7, personal theories, daydreaming and thousands of other things.

In all of Twst, so far, there are only 3 characters with light magic. These are Rook Hunt, Silver Vanrouge and Kalim Al Asim. And they, in turn, are the only ones who during book 7 won cards with the same element present.

The only sources of light in the game are also the only ones who cry during their cards. Even though in the main story they are not the only ones who cry in moments of stress or relief, Ruggie for example, they are the only ones who have received cards crying.

Initially I found this a curious choice, but the more you analyze it the more you realize that this occurrence comes from how, unlike most characters, these cards reflect the end of an internal arc for them.

Rook: Throughout book 6, Rook gives hints about how much Vil's overblot affected him psychologically. He talks about nightmares very briefly, and how he still seems stuck in that moment to the point that he risks EVERYTHING to save Vil, even though he knows how irresponsible he is being.

Rook feels guilt, he blames himself completely for Vil's overblot and it clearly haunts him psychologically. It's something that eats away at him, something that is so deep that it even affected his dreams, and that in a twisted way kept Rook far away from Vil in his dream world.

It was this guilt that woke him up, this regret, this sadness, this trauma that haunts him completely. And this is reflected in his card, being the first time we see Rook without his barriers, the guilt, pain and sadness dripping from every expression. He loves Vil, and this pain, the feeling of being a traitor, hurts him more than any arrow.

And it is in this pain that we see Rook's true facet. A boy who loves too much, who feels too much, but who hid it all with his hunter's mask. But as a contemporary poet would say, he is just a man who was making an irrelevant choice but at the same time changed everything.

Kalim: In many ways, Kalim carries a toxic positivity. He tries to see the good side of everything and everyone as much as possible, but he constantly ignores his own discomfort or completely negative emotions.

What is not good, what is not healthy, the way Kalim lives in eternal denial and always suppressing EVERYTHING inside himself.

Until he became furious. In that dream, with that version that practically mocks Jamil, Kalim found himself completely irritated and disgusted. Angry at himself, angry at Malleus and angry at everything that had happened before. It is in this anger that Kalim finally fully computes the events of book 4, it is in this anger that he understands his own feelings and those of others.

He cries because he is frustrated, angry and tired. He cries for everything he has been through, for everything he has been denied, and he cries because it was all stupid and unfair. Kalim, who constantly smiles and brings joy, for the first time is completely tired of the fake smiles and his own denial of reality. Smiling would not change his and Jamil's situation, smiling was not helping him at all.

From a passive smile to determined anger.

Silver: The only one of the three whose tears did not come from stress or frustration, but from pure and genuine relief.

Unlike the others, Silver has always had difficulty showing what he feels. It is said several times that people cannot tell what he is feeling. He has always been different from the others because of this.

"Too human for the fairies."

"Too fairy for humans."

This is actually a very present theme in Silver's narrative, and during book 7 the human factor is put in his face as a doubt. A doubt about Lilia's love and his place by Malleus' side.

At every moment the need to choose, to hide a past he never knew, to discover what his real role is in the narrative of this story. Is he the knight in shining armor who will kill the monster? Is he the prince of an enemy kingdom, who will once again make the same mistakes as his father? Is he one of Malleus Draconiana's followers, trying his best to save his prince from himself?

And the answer? He is Silver Vanrouge, son of Lilia Vanrouge and brother of Malleus. He is not a prince or a knight, he is a brother, a friend and a son. He, who managed to save the people he loved so much, cries with joy and relief for this.

Silver reached his happy ending, surrounded by people who loved him as much as he loved them. People who could not care less where he came from, because the fact was clear who he was.

He was Lilia's little boy, who would fall asleep anywhere spontaneously and unexpectedly.

He was Malleus' little brother, who always smiled in his presence and who always wanted to stay by his side.

He was Sebek's rival, who grew up together both in power and internally. The one who would be by his side, both with the same dream and desire.

They all cry for the same reason, as they have finally finished their stories.

The hunter is still loved by the queen, as she never saw his actions as a betrayal.

The sultan and the sorcerer finally understand each other, they finally understand that they complement each other and do not depend on each other. And together, they can achieve freedom.

The little soldier can now finally smile with relief, as he has finally acquired proof that he has a home to return to.

Simply beautiful, don't you agree?

Everything will become a competition whenever the two of them are together.

Both Floyd and Rainbow Dash!Reader hates losing so they will do anything to win, even using more underhanded tactics to win, though Rainbow Dash!Reader tends to be more reasonable.

Feel like Rainbow Dash!Reader would probably want to join the Track and Field club so she and Floyd compare the amount of tournaments they won (just like Hinata and Kageyama from Haikyuu!!), this also motivates Floyd to actually try to win in basketball tournaments, to which the Basketball club is extremely grateful for.

Whenever Rainbow Dash!Reader and Floyd's class have PE together, Floyd likes to challenge her to see who flies the fastest, Rainbow Dash!Reader with her wings or Floyd on a broom. It usually ends with Rainbow Dash!Reader winning, except when they go to long since she doesn't have the endurance to go long distance.

When Floyd saw Rainbow Dash!Reader's Sonic Rainboom for the first time, he was super excited, asking questions left and right. How did you do that? Does it only occurs when you go super fast? How does it feel when it happens? The questions just doesn't stop coming, until Jade and Azul drag him away that is.

Floyd seems like the type to ask Rainbow Dash!Reader to carry him while she flies to maybe one day experience a Sonic Rainboom first hand.

When Floyd and Rainbow Dash!Reader aren't in competition though, they both are just a nightmare for NRC. Nobody is safe from their pranks, except maybe Lilia and Jade, Lilia probably even joins them in their shenanigans while Jade is silently encouraging them.

The both of them are now the most feared couple in NRC, congrats. Riddle will not be seen within a ten mile radius from them.

"Aha, Shrimpy~ I just won another basketball tournament. Guess that's one more point for me~! "

Just like Floyd, Malleus would be very interested in how Rainbow Dash!Reader's Sonic Rainboom works. He's actually never seen anything like that before!

Would ask a lot of questions about it.

Probably would also ask about Rainbow Dash!Reader jobs back in her own world, like what exactly is weather patrol about? Does that mean that you can just make it rain whenever you feel like it? It's quite similar to his own ability to control the weather near Diasomnia no?

I think that Rajnbow Dash!Reader and Lilia would get along great, so Malleus would probably be glad that she gets along with him.

Would often watch as Rainbow Dash!Reader and Lilia go around prancing every single NRC students. Especially Sebek who is often victim of their shenanigans.

Finds Rainbow Dash!Reader's mischievousness quite amusing.

Whenever Rainbow Dash!Reader would want to go for a fly, Malleus would probably use his broom to fly alongside her.

Who knows, maybe one day he'll fly with her in his dragon form!

Tbh, he would probably take great care of Rainbow Dash!Reader's pet tortoise, encouraging it whenever the tortoise tries to keep up with her.

Due to Rainbow Dash!Reader's competitiveness, Malleus often finds himself being challenged by her, though he always accept her request gladly since that's just more time for the two of them to hangout.

Malleus if often the victors of these challenges, much to Rainbow Dash!Reader's dismay and frustration.

"Oh? You want to challenge me to another race? You really know no fear, Child of Man. Very well then, I shall accept your challenge."

That one couple who's always at each other throats.

Riddle is often victim to Rainbow Dash!Reader dismay, much to his dismay and Rainbow Dash!Reader's amusement.

Both of them are very, very confident in themselves, so there will always be an argument on who is right whenever they disagree with each other. Though it never really went to far since both of them knows how to back off when things get too heated.

Their confidence would also lead to a lot of competitiveness, though their never really on equal footing since whereas Riddle is excellent in magic, Rainbow Dash!Reader can't even use magic, and where Riddle lacks in anything to do physical abilities (except horse riding) , Rainbow Dash!Reader excels in them.

Though it may not look like it, ever since his overblot, Riddle is very grateful for Rainbow Dash!Reader's bluntness, since she tends to talk him off whenever he is too strict or when his anger takes a hold of him.

Would also be interested in Rainbow Dash!Reader's Sonic Rainboom, but from a more scientific point of you. So you are saying that it only happens when you fly faster then the speed of sound? Doesn't it impact your hearing? What exactly does it feel like? Ect... a lot of scientific questions, and he expects answers!

Riddle would also probably admire Rainbow Dash!Reader's flying skill, since he himself is less skilled in flight than he would like to be.

Would probably ask for tips in flight, though he's not sure if flying with wings requires the same skill as flying on a broom. But trying can't hurt.

What happened with Silvers parents? How did Lilia come to take him in?

Warnings: extensive spoilers for Silver's story in book 7 and a few for Malleus' story, overlap of events between canon TWST and HAE AU,

Silver is the son of the man who killed Malleus' mother and father. This was over 600 years prior to the current events.

Silver's father- The Dawn Knight- was under the impression that Maleanor (Malleus' mother) held the cure to heal and strengthen his wife (Silver's mother) and refused to share it. Under the command of his Brother in Law Henrick (a half-cervitaur half-boar minotaur man who looked more like a boar) he raided Maleanor's castle. Henrick went in with the intent of killing Maleanor and taking Malleus' egg to force Malleus to be his dragon mount. The Dawn Knight didn't want to kill Maleanor but believed it was the only way to get the cure he needed for his wife. He found Lilia traped under rubble with Malleus' egg, so he freed Lilia and let him flee with Malleus' egg instead of trying to keep the egg as Henrick wanted. Then the Dawn Knight killed Maleanor.

Only later did he discover the cure for his wife was nowhere to be found and he killed Maleanor for no good reason. Raverne (Malleus' father) fell in battle to the Dawn Knight a few days prior to Maleanor's death. Henrick established the Dawn Kingdom which only lasted two years before it fell to ruin and was destroyed by the ill-content people of the Kingdom. The Dawn Knight- with the aid of three day fae- put a spell on the castle (previously Maleanor's castle) to fall into a deep slumber, where only someone who could truly care for and love Silver could enter. He left Silver in his cradle as the spell took hold and there Silver slept in permanent stasis for centuries.

The Dawn Knight was slaughtered by those looking to get to Henrick. His wife suffered the same fate.

Several centuries later, Lilia- after having finally managed to get Malleus' egg to hatch- heard the cries of an infant from inside the castle and investigated. He recognized Silver as the Dawn Knight's son immediately, but was won over by the pitiful crying and soft bugling of the cervitaur calf that was innocent of his father's crimes. The Dawn Knight had let Lilia escape with Malleus when he could have killed the Bat Fae, so Lilia figured he could at least take in this infant as his own.

Silver is still plagued by the lasting effects of the spell seeing as he endured it for centuries, these effects manifesting in Narcolepsy in Silver. Lilia has not told Silver the full history of how he came into Lilia's care, just that his parents loved him and couldn't take care of him anymore.

Even Malleus doesn't know the full history of Silver, and Lilia will never tell him. It is one secret Lilia plans to take to his grave.

In less than THREE months, this got over 1,244 responses and it was great! I can see that TWST EN's fanbase is HUGE on Malleus and I'm honestly amazed by how different it is to the JP side!

What I love most about his expression.

Is that despite winning the battle, even though they "defeated" Malenoa (unsure of spelling, please correct me.).

Lilia technically won.

He's the one with both princes, he is the one still alive, thriving.

Despite his inability to accept the love that his sons give him. (AND THE LOVE HE DESERVES)

Lilia Vanrouge is the victor. Even without the tellings of history on his side. He won.

Red Flowers: Rambles About Camp 2, Glomas, and Chapter 7

[JP spoilers ahead, you have been warned]

HI I’M SO MAD BECAUSE WDYM CAMP VARGAS 2 FORESHADOWED GLORIOUS MASQUERADE????????

For context, in this part of the event, Film Studies Club and Board Game Club just shoo’d away the forest fairies, and then they talked about why they were trying to put out the campfires. Then they started talking about the forest fire that happened back then: a miner’s campfire accidentally got too big and the fire happened. And then that screenshot comes up.

Vil also says “red flowers” in the JP.

This is insane to me because in the JP version, Camp Vargas 2 was the event directly before Glorious Masquerade. Camp happened late September 2022. Glomas happened the next month.

THIS IS SO INSANE….. THEY LITERALLY JUST DROPPED THIS SO INNOCUOUSLY AND THEN MAKE IT THE BIG THING IN THE NEXT EVENT…….

But it’s also so interesting too because!! A friend and I were talking about it because the red flowers that Rollo grew in Glomas are forbidden flowers! They were a thing in the past at one point. Fae would have known about the flowers, because in the first place, they’re fatal to them. The red flowers absorb magic and they will keep absorbing magic until the mage user has no more magic. And as beings literally made of magic, this is definitely deadly for fae. So in a way, this tidbit of information packs so much worldbuilding, not just about the forest fire, but also the perspective of fae.

Worth interesting to bring up here: Red flowers most likely came from Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. In the movie, humans made red dust from it to kill fae in the human-fae war. As that war is canon in Twst, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Silver Knights (the humans) used them against the faes. So with that context, fae would see red flowers as a horrible thing, and to conflate it with fire, which kills living things too… yeah.

And now that we’re on this topic, we have to talk about chapter 7 because I am haunted by the fact that in the Maleficent movie, the faes do win against the humans.

But in Twst? We clearly see that that’s not the case.

Briar Valley was once called Land of Briar, as seen in the title cards showing the location in Lilia’s dream, connoting that it used to be much bigger. If you look at the map of Briar Valley, you’d also see that there are division marks on the country itself.

Literally the human-fae war has been twisted in this game. And that’s so fucking beautiful because in the original Sleeping Beauty, the humans won against Maleficent. Fae was the villain in that movie. But in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, it’s the faes who won. Humans were the villain. And THEN you see here that the humans won, but now you can’t really tell who’s hero or villain. It’s easy to say the humans because fae like Lilia are protagonists in this game… but remember too that Silver is fully human And may or may not be descended from the Knights and Sebek is half human. Ffs, Yuu is human.

Anyway, consider that Maleficent lives despite the red dust used in the war. But now think: if the silver knights Do use the red flowers, that may have been what killed Malleus’ mother… and the one who lives is Lilia.

Consider too that in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, one of the three fairies died to that red dust protecting the other fae :-) the blue fairy specifically. Noteworthy too that she’s the one who lifts Aurora’s curse such that she doesn’t die but just sleeps till she’s given true love’s kiss. Kinda… like how Malleus was born. Needs to be given love to “wake up”, to be hatched, to live. Like how Aurora needs to wake up via true love’s kiss to live. Merryweather in that sense is kinda like Lilia.

How haunting then that if Twst didn’t twist (heh) Maleficent surviving the war and made Mallenoir live, it could have been Lilia (who was the one who helped Malleus hatch) who died from the war.

Anyway, next chapter 7 update is probably gonna be so fire (haha) !!! But now it’s food for thought for glomas 2

There are all these takes online now after Chap 7 part 3 that by Malleus taking Yuu out of all of everyone's dreams, completely erasing them from everyone's minds and basically banishing them to alter Ramshackle that that somehow means Malleus doesn't care for Yuu, since his "perfect world" is one without Yuu. Yuu is an obstacle from him protecting Lilia and that's why he's also mad at Silver for breaking everyone (including Lilia) out of their perfect dreams, and I COULD NOT AGREE LESS. This is the same Malleus manchild that doesn't quite understand complex, heavy emotions and copes by lashing out and not thinking ahead. It couldn't be any more clear that for him, it's easier to have never met Yuu and gone through that heartache than to deal with the pain of them leaving.

TWST SPOILERS!!

If he didn't care about Yuu, he'd literally just let them be a background character in everyone's dreams, yeah? Label them as Student A for all he cares. The fact that he bothered enough to erase this "tiny detail" is extremely telling that he recognizes this person has significant impact and not just some dog fucking around on the street lol.

And about protecting someone, I think it's not just Lilia. He's convinced himself that he's saving everyone as if he's some sort of god; and I would not be surprised at all if he legitimately thought he was a god. Because that's literally how he was raised and how people around him treat him. He's power-tripping, and that might actually also be a contributing factor as to why he literally erased Yuu from his world. Because Yuu never looked at him as a god, and that's an insecurity for his overblot-infested brain that there's one non-believer in his utopia.

He's running on full adrenaline right now and it's impossible for him to think clearly. Everything he's doing is because of emotions. Yuu is an anomaly to his utopia, as they have always been. His desire to stop feeling sadness and pain won over and like an aggressive antivirus, he literally just quarantined them in some special place because he just can't think straight and doesn't know what to do with them.

When he looks at them, he can only feel loneliness, emptiness, sadness. Just like how he articulated his sorrow at Ramshackle in Book 6. Unlike Lilia, Silver, and Sebek who he's known for many years, Yuu is something completely new to him; they're the opposite of his eternity. Honestly, I think my Twisted Wonderland timeline may be messed up because the Age of Gods in TWST was 100 years ago and that Lilia is over 600...

I probably got my hands on the wrong info though so please correct me but yeah, Age of Gods was 100 years ago.

So either Twisted Wonderland is an entirely new world that speedran all of its advancements or I'm just dumb 😭😭😭

Honestly I believe that Twisted Wonderland has to be 2000 years old at most judging by the timeline, my question is how did they come up with so many advancements. Was it solely the Shroud family or Fae?

I don't think the Age of Gods for TWST were a hundred years ago, it was S.T.Y.X that was founded a hundred years ago and if i recall correctly its actually because its a fairly new branch after the previous head of S.T.Y.X died.

Mostly because they say the Blot Phantoms they house are over a thousand years old, though I understand how it can be confusing considering we don't have a direct timeline and because of what Trein says about how we're in Year One of magic.

It's crazy to think that Lilia is younger than S.T.Y.X in that respect but I guess war ages you.

However, I do think that TWST did have an upperhand, so to speak, with its development, especially in regards to Fae, and I'd argue that a lot of advancements are due to Fae being proactive—which is why the Valley of Thorns hinges on Malleus learning from Night Raven.

Because Fae live to see entire civilizations rise and fall in what seems to be a blink to them, they tend to stagnate. Finding the advancements they made hundreds of years ago to still operate so why change it.

Which is why I truly and utterly believe that Briar Valley houses some of the richest history and museums of every culture, civilization, and even languages long gone.

To sum up my thoughts—Malleus is meant to propel Briar Valley forward. Everything that he learns and will learn helps aid in the new age of Briar Valley. Part of me believes Maleficia had been her millenia's New Age, and Mallenoa would've been as well had she not been killed. [I genuinely feel faint knowing that Mallenoa was just a princess when she died.]

The concept of Maleficia being a "modern" God is extremely interesting, because the implications that one day Malleus will succeed her in power makes my head spin—especially in consideration of what he's doing in his Overblot, to think there is someone stronger than him just vibing is...

And that's not even getting into the fact that she is still in her prime as a Dragon Fae with 1000+ years under her belt. Literally no one is touching her except Malleus.

twst Spoilers for Chapter 7

Okay, so I am in love with the concept of an Au where Silver is somehow sent back in time and meets the younger version of his father. At first, he thinks the General doesn’t like him because he’s always telling Silver not to do things, not to get in the way during battle all while playing pranks here and there. However, it’s the opposite; General Lilia adores Silver, and he thinks of him as a cute puppy. He’s just very tsundereish and doesn’t want Silver to overwork himself or get hurt. (And he likes teasing Silver to see his pouty face.)

I also like the idea of an AU where the General comes to the Present, and while at first, he tries to stay away from Silver, his heart is instantly won over by the pure-hearted soul and he ends up constantly fighting with his present counterpart to spend time with him.

Thinking about Jack Howl who knows he can only end up a martyr. 

Thinking about Lilia and all his time. A feral kid with no birthday, who finds unexpected family only to lose them too soon. Missing and dead, with an egg in his arms that he’s not good enough to see but won’t hatch for years. Thinking about decades scouring the world in the hope he can find his missing friend. Thinking about every time he mused about “what Malleanor and Levan would think of this”. How many times would he catch himself, reminding himself one is dead, the other is missing, left only with their slowly dying son he can’t seem to save. Thinking about the general who hates humans and everything they’ve stolen but can’t help but appreciate them in his years among them. Thinking about the Lilia who cries holding Malleus and won’t let go despite what the council says. Who realizes Malleanor was right and he’s just so full of love. Thinking of Lilia and a lifetime of being so lesser you believe it. Despite raising a boy you can’t say he’s your son, because he could never replace the people he sees in their face, he doesn’t deserve it and he’s vile for even entertaining the thought. Thinking about finding the son of the man who destroyed your family and country, and raising him as your own. About never treating him as anything less than yours but still not allowing yourself to think of yourself as his father. That the boy can never really be yours, even when he is, Seven’s he is. Thinking about thinking yourself is so inconsequential that there’s no gravity to you leaving with no warning. Thinking about Lilia Vanrouge, the fae who couldn’t realize he was a father.
