#spn: the trap

Theory: EVERYTHING that happens in purgatory during The Trap is Chuck's writing. It's too simple otherwise. Dean spends the whole time looking for Castiel the same way he did when Cas was avoiding him there the first time. He prays to him to try to get him to come back -- telling him of COURSE he forgives him, because last time Cas wouldn't leave with Dean because he thought Dean could never forgive him. Then, with < 3 minutes to spare, Cas shows up, they miraculously have everything they need, and they've made up. All so Chuck can have time to torture Sam.

Do you guys see how goddamn emotionally charged this hug is for both of them? Deans holding on for dear life. This hug is the physical embodiment of “I need you. I’ve always needed you.”

Is this hug not a confession in itself?? This hug feels like Dean finally admitting to himself the depth of his feelings for Cas. Because if he doesn’t, Cas might leave again, and that’s unacceptable.

15x09 The Trap

Listen, Dean may have still died, but he died HUMAN. They both ended up together in Heaven, rather than together in purgatory or forever separated in hell or the empty. Sam did make it better! Because they actually got to live free, TOGETHER, even if for a short time.

And then they get eternity in paradise Jack built.

other things that get me are how 15x09 features an angel trap (not a ring of fire, a trap) in the wilderness, in a land of total war, of (God’s) abandonment…

Cas was lured into a ring of blossoms, into a tiny garden he wanted to use to protect his human fam… and then Dean awoke to Cas gone and that little grove scorched.

After Dean’s prayer, Cas was energized; he got the blossom and fought, because Dean’s prayer is the blossom in so many ways. Their initial meeting was born from Dean’s resurrection. It’s literally a love grown from death, from ashes, over and over again!

and then! visually 15x18 Dean and Cas enter, in Dean’s words, “another trap.”

This is echoed visually, as they’re inside a Devil’s trap now, with Dean’s feet still-in-it at the end. The devil’s trap inside a dungeon, a place of (God’s) torture.

Two traps. And aborted love confession and a clearly verbalized testament of love.

The traps are in essence the very same, only… one got sprung.
