My friend approached me today and asked me if he should watch supernatural (I’ve been trying to get him to watch it for forever) and of course I was like “um yes.” And so we talked about it for awhile and idk what I said but he was like “hold on, one of them isn’t gay?” And I was like, “well canonically it’s never EXPLICITLY said that he was, i think he was bi tho” and I went on to explain the love confession and how it’s canon in Spanish and I confused him I think. Then he said “this whole time I thought that it was one straight brother and one gay brother, I was so down for that. I totally thought he was gay. He LOOKS so gay. And from your edits he looked so gay. Is he not fucking that other guy (cas)?” And I went on to explain that sadly he was not.

S4 E3 Supernatural

Now THIS is a good episode. Castiel took Dean back in time to 1973! We find out Sam and Dean's maternal grandparents, Samuel and Deanna Campbell, and Mary are hunters. On top of that, Azazel is playing match maker so he can have his little psychic children be the best of the best, and he made a deal with Mary to revive John after he killed him. Also as if Azazel hasn't killed enough of Sam & Dean's family they killed Samuel and Deanna too. Oh this is so interesting, then Castiel taking Dean back, saying destiny can't be changed but Sam is going down a dark path and either Dean stops him or angels do.

you know, I think the ending is actually rather poetic. I always see "how could dean survive several apocalypses and die on rusty rebar!!!!" but honestly I think it's kinda perfect. it shows us that sometimes we don't get the ending we wanted, or the one we deserved. hell, dean deserved a better ending than the one he got. but that's life.

in a godless world, who gets anything they deserve? who dies heroically? who gets to live happily ever after? not many. and I think thats the soulless beauty of it. Life. Isn't. Fair. that's been one of the main themes of spn since the pilot. it only makes sense that we see that in the most literal way to end the show.

and after everything dean had been through, how could he have had a normal life?

yes, sam went through much worse than dean, but the codependency coursing through their veins would have been the straw that broke the camels back. how could they ever be normal, with what they had been through together? dean would've never let sam get the life he needed. he would've never let him stop hunting. I think dean needed to die so we could see sam get what he deserved, what he had wanted since the beginning.

Dean would've chosen to die fighting. and he did. Was it unfair? sure. could we have gotten better? probably. but that's the one we got, and honestly I'm not upset about it.
