look I know we hate billie cuz of 15x18, but billie when she first becomes death? like we find out 13x5 that she's the new Death? she eats so damn hard. like I feel bad cuz she sucks later but there is not a moment in this episode where I don't love every second she's on screen. like Dean saying "well if it's up to me [i want to go back to Sam]" and she comes back with "I didn't say it was up to you. I said it depends on you." ??? it will eat every time and no one can change my mind. it's hard to see your enemies win but she makes the episode and I have to give her credit.

What's crazy about s13e4 The Big Empty is that it's so aptly named because even tho my dearly beloved Castiel is resurrected at the end of the episode which should and normally does fill me with overwhelming joy, knowing Jack's whole story but even just seeing this snippet of it play out (and seeing more of Sam and Dean's grief + the shifter grief counselor storyline) absolutely guts me and making me feel (you guessed it) empty.... Jack volunteering to go with Dean to investigate because he wants to win Dean over so badly even after Dean has literally told him he wants to kill him is so insanely gut wrenching and fucked up

I should be celebrating right now, I'm one full episode away from tombstone but now I actually also have to sit through Dean being perfectly okay killing himself maybe 10 minutes after he makes himself a pb+j for breakfast which is conveniently one of the only foods that also happens to be associated with Castiel who Dean happens to think is dead

Advanced Thanatology is such an interesting Dean episode and honestly we should have seen more of Dean and Billie they are fascinating characters especially when they’re with each other.

Billie hated Dean and what he represented but now with knowledge comes the unfortunate fact she knows he’s necessary and she sees right through him. I think in some ways they’re too sides of the same coin and I think it comes with the job, the old death was also fascinated with Dean which is probably a result of some of Chuck’s interference.

And also for Dean who definitely has a complicated relationship with living being told by death herself that he’s not allowed to die, not today

ah yes supernatural season 13 episode 5 advanced thanatology. one of dean’s many dead cas depressive episodes. fellas is it gay to try to kill yourself over your boybestfriend dying

just wondering, did we ever see dean make cas do any of the tests with silver/holy water/etc to prove it was him when he came back to life? you know, the ones he made everyone, even sam, do?

or was dean’s faith in the only thing he ever really believed in enough for him, every time?

aaaa the ending of 13x5

Dean telling Sam he doesn’t know if he can keep going, if he can recover from this, if he believes that what they do is worth it anymore (not in those exact words). After trying to let himself die.

“I just need a win. I just need a damn win.”

And then they’re driving in the dark and Dean gets the phone call-

The shock

And then the realization, as warm light slowly shines onto his face...

And then they’re driving in a place filled with warm streetlights and they come to the phone booth and Cas turns around and they see each other... their faces... oh man it hit really hard. “I just need a win,” and then they get Cas back. Dean gets Cas back.

Gods, I’ve seen that scene before, but it hits so much harder in the context of the episode. It’s... wow.

The most heartbreakingly sinister thing Supernatural ever did was have Cas believe there could be a happy life for Dean with him gone. That Dean could just move on. That Dean could just be happy without Cas in his life. That Dean could ever get over losing his angel.

DEAN WOULD NEVER GET OVER CAS. EVER.

The man carried Cas' bloody trenchcoat from car to car because a part of him always believed that cas'd come back.

The man stayed A YEAR in Purgatory (even though the way out was RIGHT THERE!!) because he had to find Cas and had to bring him home.

He literally killed himself when he believed Cas was gone for good. And he would've stayed dead if Billie didn't have other plans for him.

The man decided he actually wanted to live again ONLY AFTER the gay angel returned to him.

Dean would never EVER get over Cas. But Cas never realized that. So he killed himself, unknowingly killing Dean in the proces...

Where the hell was our “Hello, Dean” y’all? Where was it? It wasn’t at the end of the episode where it should have been; that’s for damn sure.

Or, what about “Hello, Sam.” I would have screamed.

That being said; good fucking episode though.

they get muddy in my mouth these words I wish I could say. they’d be followed by tears leaving trails of grief visible on my face. Yet, my throat knows no sobs, my sadness no temporary relief because my soul was being held together by hands I can’t admit I miss. I am well-versed in making peace with loss but losing you has made me unfold parts of myself I didn’t know belonged to me. I’ve loved you only inside my mind and now this love has to make space for the nothingness I must keep to myself.
