Anyway if your takeaway from Brother's Keeper, Moriah, and The Prisoner is that Dean is some kind of violent abuser who tries to kill his friends and family, you have fundamentally missed the point. He is fighting against the Mark of Cain and the will of God in these situations. The odds are stacked so high against him and he STILL manages to defy them. He doesn't kill Sam. He doesn't kill Jack. He doesn't kill Cas. And THAT is the point. He is overcoming fate itself. He has the curse of the first murderer and instead of hurting his brother he KILLS DEATH. HELLO???

17 and 22?

17 - there should be more of this type of fic/art

first off i love all the beautiful fic and art we have and the heart creators put into it. several things i would like to see more of.

i think ‘found footage’/epistolary narratives work really well with spn’s horror, detective, and police genres. the outsider perspectives (like from phone call transcripts) or really heavy pov perspectives (like from diaries or blog posts) are can both be really interesting. there are even two found footage episodes—ghostfacers and bitten.

i think it would be cool to see more of people getting pulled into tfw/the extended network. like it’s destiel or whatever but kevin’s in the bunker kitchen applying online to jobs in chicago, or we consult victor about a hunt, or ellen and jo help with the south dakota girl gang, or rowena lives in the bunker sometimes and she keeps redecorating with weird art. this happens sometimes with charlie, but often so that charlie can give Gay Advice not so that she can hang out and have fun and be a person.

22 - your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

ooh interesting. i kind of have to say charlie/rowena. you can see in my tragic little liveblog of 10.22 how much i love their dynamic, for them as characters and for how it helps with the worldbuilding of magic and technology in spn.

Dean nearly agrees to go with Tessa in 2.01 after fighting to live because she tells him he'll eventually hurt people. Dean turns on Gordon the moment he sees Gordon with the knife torturing Lenore because Dean doesn't want to be that guy who tortures people. Dean goes from liking to loathing Gordon because Gordon killed his own sister without hesitation and Dean doesn't want to become that person. Dean starts to care that he's going to die and go to hell in season 3 because he finds out he'll turn into someone who hurts people. Dean comes back from hell broken not primarily because of the torture he himself faced but because he tortured others and he enjoyed it. When Dean kills people in season 9 and 10 under the Mark of Cain it's an act of retribution. Even as a demon—he beats men who harm women into the pavement. He kills a man because he loathes his hypocrisy and that he's a cheater. He murders human traffickers. He massacres the Styne family. Dean killing Cyrus is like Dean killing Sam, and Dean doesn't hesitate like Gordon didn't hesitate to kill his own sister. Dean tells Cyrus he has to do it—retribution has overtaken the love and compassion that stays the real Dean's hand and guides his actions and makes him believe in the good inside people and their capacity to change. And Cas is the one who points that out—Cas is the one who says the real Dean would never have murdered that kid. Dean isn't someone who's all wrath and judgement and black and white. Dean is someone driven by his heart. Dean is someone who loves people and that is his primary motivation—not retribution and punishment.

Remember Sam's secret in season 1? How he didn't want to tell Dean that he dreamed about Jess's death before she died, because he was terrified of what it meant about him and that it might make him evil? Dean's secret in season 2 mirrors that secret.

It's Dean's monstrous secret it's the thing Dean doesn't want to share not even primarily because of what it says about Sam but because of what it says about Dean. It's John's order that Dean shape himself into someone who would kill his own brother if needed. It's Gordon's proclamation that Dean is a killer. It's this person Dean doesn't want to be doesn't want to become—someone he isn't. He hides it from Sam not just because he doesn't want Sam to know their dad said something so fucked up about his own sons, but because he doesn't want Sam to see Dean as a monster who might kill him either!
